LQNPA, 4/27/12 -- I Confess or, The Road to Ro-Hell Is Paved with Paula’s Good Intentions
I hope Dani's phone rings while Auntie Evil is wearing it.
Amazing to think that Miguel can actually sound intelligent now that he is no longer in his drunken stupor. He did a nice little job of giving it to his evil aunt. He's not ready to totally see her for what she is because he made the comment to Dani about 'all she had done for them' when they were children. Oh yeah, dude...she did so much for you!
Had to love it when Rogelio told Gustavo that he was like a brother he would have liked to have. Oh yeah...Gustavo was squirming, but it was the look on Rogelio's face and the smile that he gave him that really makes me wonder if Rogelio didn't put two and two together about Gustavo a long time ago.
I didn't watch all of "Teresa" and started watching when the actress playing Vanessa showed up on the scene. Her face seems so different here than it did there. Her lips and eyes look really funky. Am I imagining this? Did she go in for some plastics?
Ana Paula...I don't know, but she sure seems dumb. It's taken her how long to finally decide to tell Rogelio what she should have told him a long time ago?!
I guess Gus isn't going to be Rog's new brother anymore.
I agree with Anon. that Cinthia is sliding into something between evil and insanity. I'm still laughing at Cat's stark sentence: "Efrain lost the snake" that for some reason captures for me the combination of locked room mystery and Keystone cops that this has become.
I have been trying to figure out why Vanessa is obsessed with Rogelio, other than to keep the plot busy and moving. Possibilities: she wants what she can't have, she likes powerful men, she wants what AP seems to have, she has memories of the past relationship with him. Any other ideas, anyone? It didn't work, she doesn't want to live in the country, they want different things, he's indifferent to her in general!
I do love when he says that they are both adults . . . .
Miguel does make sense these days.
The little actor who plays Margaro has been very good lately and is perfectly cast looks-wise to play Rogelio's son.
Looks like 78 episodes to go. But who's counting?
Olive - thanks do much for posting and letting us know you have been following! We love to hear from readers/watchers.
Olive - Sin and Vain only seeing what they want to see. That's pretty de riguer for TNs. Drives me nuts, but often used.
Sin is just horrid! And WAY too much Vainy in this one! Rogelio probably realizes by now that Vainy will never leave him alone - now that they've been lovers, she'll stay stuck on him like white on rice. What does Vainy see in Rogelio? Mostly, that he's her "prize", and can't be anyone else's.
Yes, Ana Paula has always been dumb (except she has book smarts) and is easily swayed emotionally. Look at how long she has witnessed her aunt's horrid life philosophy, and she still unquestionably believes her aunt has her best interests at heart - gag! Personally, I think part of Rogelio's attraction to AP is that she is naive and can be emotionally manipulated. How cynically Rogelio "negotiates" with Tía Rosaura for AP's "affections". But her emotional wishy-washiness is also a source of frustration for him - two sides of the same card!
I wonder though before she confessed, it seemed as though Rog was going to admit his own discretion with Vainessa. I guess that's out the window now lol.
I wonder will Rosaura give Dani back her phone since she swiped it. It's not like AP won't see the incriminating photo since Vainessa made sure that it's sent to the hacienda so she can sit back and watch the fireworks.
I got really tired of her showing up that agency pawing all over Rog.
I felt bad for Margaro. His hopes of being adopted by Rog and AP were dashed because of Rog's stupidity.
Cinthia is getting on my last nerve with the scheming in making sure the boy doesn't return. It's time for that letter to resurface and for Rog to find out the boy is his.
Judging by the previews, all hell is about to break lose as Rog unleashes his fury on AP and Gus. Mean Rog is back big time lol.
Have I said lately how much I hate that smug piece of crap named Goose. When does he take a dirt nap next to David?
Oh yeah, UA and I (who do Mondays and Tuesdays) are going to have FUN FUN FUN recapping! LOL. (I can't speak for Wednesday or the rest of the week because I can't remember that far ahead.) It's a busy time on this TN.
As for Vain, I am just guessing, but since she is so VAIN, I think her obsession with Rohell probably started when she came to visit him at the Hacienda (around episode 4 or 5) and he was so angry he fell out of his chair and waved his whip at her. She was soooooo shocked that he was MAD! At HER! Delusional bruja.
We are told that Esteban complained because Vain's "love" for Rohell cast a shadow over their marriage, but still, Vain never bothered to contact Rohell all that time. The main reason she did was because the loss of that important contract to the business. So I'm thinking that Rohell was important to her (as a past love) but not that that important, since she was able to move on with Esteban and everything. Only when Rohell rejected her and disdained her did she seem to become relentless. And her attitude has always been, "I KNEW he couldn't resist ME!" All vanity. How dare any man that she wants to impress not be impressed!
So I think it's a mixture of past love, and vanity that has her going.
As for Rohell in these past episodes, he is a dumbass, dumbass, dumbass, and to all your Rogelianas out there, remember that there wouldn't be any Rogeliana fanbase left if things didn't improve . . . so . . . be patient. We can all commiserate on the dumbassness and lameness here together! LOL.
But anyway, Rohell is a dumbass, but at least give him credit for recognizing it soon and making sure Vain knows that he regrets it all.
Now that Rohell has just heard a very big bombshell about the Goosestavito, so he's likely going to pull some douchebag moves. (Not trying to give away any spoilers, just stating the OBVIOUS! LOL.)
Interesting times ahead, some of them dark (as can be expected, with Rohell's anticipated anger is unleashed). Should be interesting. But dark. Sigh. At least it can't last forever.
ITA with you, we need to cut Gus a little slack, Rohell is looking like a total $#it-heel right now. How I wish right after AP told him her boyfriend and baby daddy is Gus, if she would have added, "Oh, and what was it you were going to tell me about why Vannessa was in your room?"
I'm glad that cat is out of the bag.
The only true thing Aunt Rosy has ever said, "Vanneszora"-do you know that the CC in English translated it Vanesslut? Now I know if you type in Vanneszora into google you won't get that translation. Obviously the CC's maker is not a robot.
Right now, Effer (and Sin) are the only people who know that Margaro is Rohell's son. Does Bruno know? This doesn't bode well for Effer's survival.
after tonight's episode too much temptation not to find out what happens next, next few recaps are going to be awesome!
As for Dani "I think I liked her better before when all she did was squeak". I know, bo-o-o-oring.
And I loved your especially clever aside: "The plan to off the heir is on again." More klutzy Keystone Kop maneuvers by the snake charmer and his lunatic sidekick.
Yep, Dani is pretty boneheaded about the relationship stuff these days - she is thinking like an enabler. Not good. I'm glad Miguel is setting her straight these days.
Hi jlk - glad you joined us. We're getting a lot of new commenters. It's great!
GatoViejo, thanks again for your regular posting of the bilingual closed captions. My husband has really been using them to practice his listening skills.
I still think you must be some kind of genius to make a program that does that...
We all know that for the protagonistas it's: if I do it, well, I've got excuses, but if YOU do it, then I'm really MAD.
Cheryl/NM--Glad you're still with us. You're usually on an earlier tn schedule and I miss your witty commentaries.
I have to thank you also for the ingenious job you've done with the auto-translation of the CC's. When they go out or I'm in a hurry, it helps having the Spanish there in print to refer to.
If you have one for Abismo set up, I'd love to have the link!! Thanks!
Nobody seems to remember that Rogelio has never actually killed anyone nor ordered a hit. He does bite, but not fatally.
Of course, we can probably count on Bruno to make those papers surface now because why wait? Do a thorough job and then eat the Cupcake alive (I almost mean that literally).
I think if Rogelio has the operation now he will be up and walking by the time Cupcake's baby is born. Based on standard TN timing and the fact that he does have feeling in them.
Totally agree with the razors and shave cream suggestion. Fabian Robles seems to be enjoying his role which must be some compensation for having to look so scuzzy.
Like everyone else, I'm eagerly looking forward to this week's episodios.
Recovery from spinal cord injury is unpredictable, but i snagged this info froma website. "...Seventy-six percent of the 54 individuals with incomplete paraplegia were able to ambulate in the community 1 year following injury (Waters, Adkins, Yakura, & Sie, 1994a)..." If he had complete paraplegia, then his chances would be much reduced. "Although 38 percent of those with an NLI below T9 had some recovery of LE function, only 5 percent recovered sufficient hip and knee strength to ambulate using conventional orthoses and crutches." (from the same article).
This will take a lotta work to accomplish, but I predict he will have the surgery, then the next day everybody will crowd around his hospital bed and expect him to get right up and walk. Of course he'll falter and then the Oh Noes will begin. Remember people he hasn't used his legs in 7 years. It amazes me that he hasn't had a million other problems like swelling and clots and weight gain.
I've not done any nursing for decades, so I don't know much about what they do anymore. The prognosis used to be pretty bleak. Someone with real expertise might want to chime in. Carlos?
Heading off to watch AdP before getting to work on my recap for tomorrow.
My getting-tired-of-Gustavo-ness level bumped up a notch when he tried to force-feed soup to AP.
Review of caption links:
Ana Paula is no longer bedridden and Rogelio is back on the scene. Why is Cinthia still barking out orders when the other two are on site?
Also, someone said that Cinthia was illiterate. Was that because she could not read the papers in front of her (literally) or because she was too lazy to read them and plot a solution?
I get a kick out of watching her with that whip. She thinks it confers magic powers on her dimwitted little brain.
I also think that one of her cheapo looking chokers will be the cause of her demise (which she deserves for wanting to get rid of a living child and an unborn child).
If they do this in the story I was just planning on tightening my beanie a little for the sake of poetic license.
Welcome all the new people!
Urban and LXV I never thought of what Tia was trying to do! Everyone is gunning for her. If I were her I'd move to another county and forget Gus and Rohell, and leave no forwarding address to Tia ever.
Cinthia still running the place one AP got out of bed is Cinthia's delusions of grandeur; Rohell always specified AP was to run things in his absence-AP is too polite to bark bac,
Some others have said this, but I think Ana Paula is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Did EF just pick some random guy to be blamed for being David's accomplice? The guy seemed pretty easy to convince. Must have been a lot of dinero - where did Sin get it? I suppose there is a safe in Rog's office.
I can only imagine how Monday night is going to be. These people are a therapist's dream - everything from anger mismanagement, to sex addiction, to codependence, to overal moral debauchery, to just plain ungratefulness.
I agree with whoever said it - or was it all of us - I am sick of almost everyone right now and wish for a bucket load of snakes to be let loose.
I would like a few nights of happy times but know that is a long way away.
Not sure it matters, anyway; the photos have been sent, don't you know they will pop up when strategically time in the story.
Thanks for the great recaps!!! and all the fun comments. I am saying some of this in advance since I have a CRAZY week and am hoping to catch at least one "real time" episode this week.
Something I've been wondering about, and tightening my beanie over: What exactly was Sin's and Vainessa's "plan" for disposing of M-grito when he was found at the amusement park? I don't think Vain is evil enough to outright kill him, so what was she planning on doing? Dumping him in the middle of nowhere? Shipping him to a boarding house in Sweden? She'd have to really work hard to come up with some non-lethal solution to get rid of him permanently, because wherever she deposits him, he's going to talk and he's going to want to be returned "home." So I don't get how they thought that would work, unless Vain was willing to have him killed. Which I don't believe.
Rosie stuck the phone under her blouse while talking to AP.
What an ideal employee Effer is! Not quite as bad as Bruno, I'll admit, but geez the guy is corrupt!
You are the master!
Everything is such a mess but at least the truth is finally out. And while the Vain/Rog tryst was despicable, it had to happen as Ana must have some leverage to offset her devastating news. I think pictures of her husband and sister in bed should do it...
I think V and R happen to have the same type of phone. Product placement?
I have the feeling the entire rest of the novela will be like this.
Agnes, thanks for the confidence you have in my medical opinion. Last week I observed that Rog's recovery of sexual function, in light of what we had already learned about his neurological status, was atypical. I really don't have anything to add about the prospect of him walking again. I couldn't say it any better than Emarie already has:
"Dead spinal nerves stay dead..."
Therefore I'm banking on a Festivus miracle.
Agnes, you did touch on something that I've thought about in reference to the real life events that affected Jorge Salinas but have been reluctant to comment on:
"It amazes me that he hasn't had a million other problems like swelling and clots..."
I've wondered if prolonged use of the wheelchair in filming this may have contributed to his pulmonary embolism.
The answer has given rise to my convoluted response that Rog has been secretly practicing all these years with Hugo and simply too unsure of himself or depressed to take the show on the road, so to speak, till AP came along--or we'd not have seen him threaten Rosie by standing. Like I say, it's just a convoluted solution to avoid a headache from further beanie tightening.....
Had he been aware of an ability to be fully sexually functional he would have done something about it before this but his emotional guard was too strong and in place too long. He's been letting it down gradually with Ana Paula, but it slipped when he got drunk with -- or was drugged by -- Vainessa. Failing with Ana Paula was not an option now that she has had another (and younger) man to compare him to (despite the strong possibility that he is more talented at the finer points).
Ernesto might suspect or know this, but if that is the case he's being very cautious in not sharing this with anyone. Smart man.
YES! I have wondered this too!
As for Rohell's "functioning" now with Vain, I agree with UA, if we are to believe that he didn't know that he could function before, it was all emotional, and made worse by the worry that Cupcake has a younger guy to compare him to.
At the same time, I am just a little amazed he didn't know what he could and could not do. Plus, he didn't seem that affected (or pleased) when he was told by Maria (after the wedding) that Cupcake was a virgin. Had Rohell been insecure about his ability to please her, thinking she was a virgin (and had nothing to compare him to) should have been a relief.
I still don't get how he didn't know. But I guess he had a plan to put on all these amazing moves to rock her world, whether or not he could . . . you know.
In any case, tighten your beanies! That's all I can say about this aspect of the plot, so far.
As for what's coming up. Oh yeah, fun times, fun times. But it can't stay this crazy forever. We have about 70 episodes left or something?
If this isn't okay feel free to delete it.
I've been watching TN off and on since I was a kid, so for me I usually take most TN plots at face value & don't question knowing that anything & everything is possible, but I was just wondering and appreciate any answers, so thanks in advance!
Carlos, I hope you're tuning in tonight. There will be questions about this episode!
As to Rogelio rocking AP's world, I can easily imagine he knows the Venus Butterfly and a variety of other techniques. Didn't Maria once comment that he had a lot of girlfriends before becoming engaged to Vainessa? If they talked about him like the women of Sex & the City would have (I'm shocked to this day that none of them ever had salsa fever) I'm sure he had women throwing themselves in his path.
As to his attitude about AP being a virgin, it has been my experience and observation that a man who is confident of his abilities has no need of a virgin. It hadn't occurred to him that Cupcake was a virgin because she's over 20 and beautiful. Part of getting her was also about getting a trophy bride so that other men would envy rather than pity him.
Several of our TN recappers and commenters really do own beanie caps knitted by one of our regular commenters late last year.
Here's a formula for making links:
Be sure to leave the space between the first a and href. Thanks to Agnes for teaching me this.
(I found the clips on YouTube too.) I couldn't understand what the woman says at the beginning of the clip, but this scene with Salinas and Gil seems like an extra bit of fun they had with "Hector."
Here's a clip with the series of scenes he did (with some feeble attempt to have a "plot") with all the ladies. I didn't get it all, but thought it was pretty cute, and of course he is awesome: here. As always, be warned to not look on YouTube for anything related to LQNPA (or in some cases, anything to do with Salinas or any of the cast!) as you might be subjected to spoilers. Though I don't see anything possibly spoilerific in the link I give.
On another note, as much as extra Jorge is always a great thing, I hate beauty pageants.
While watching the TN I often ask myself how AP managed to graduate at all. She is definitely not the sharpest knife. She doesn’t seem to be an avid reader, either. She barely read two books in more than 80 episodes – a Rog's book on horsemanship and a Goose’s book on pregnancy - why, I guess they must have a good library at the hacienda! I haven’t seen her deciding for herself; she always goes where others lead her, the only exception being her sudden rush to have sex with Goose despite MentiRosa’s consternation.
So, I am definitely not a RogeliAna, I would rather be a Rogelina (sans A). For me any woman could do as long as she is willing (and able) to make Rog happy. And that’is what he really needs, my poor darling.
BTW, somehow this story reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera. I almost see desperate Erik and young empty-headed Christine - the same age gap, the same intellectual and moral discrepancy.
