Capítulo 2
Eusabio
is pretty damned slow about following Ocatavio’s orders to fetch Maricruz’s
ration of milk and food for that day. His lips say sí, but his body
language says “No, not if I have anything to say about it!” He doesn’t, but his
mouthy, jealous girlfriend, Ofelia, does. Mari will have to wait till
Ofelia and Useless get it on in the storeroom first.
Meanwhile,
Octavio gives Mari a broad hint that her personal hygiene could use a
boost. If she’d bathe and put on a clean dress afterwards and maybe a pair
of shoes then she’d look a whole lot prettier, he says. Useless finally
comes back with the milk and foodstuffs but gives them both grief saying Lucia
is going to have a fit. Tav says get over it, that he’ll explain and
handle things, not to worry all ready. Mari takes the stuff and Tav
learns that her pet monkey was named after him. Apparently that makes Tav
feel special and he smiles a sparkling smile that should send shivers down to
Mari’s tippy toes.
Mari is
so keen on pleasing Octavio that she bathes with soap, washes and combs her
hair, puts on a clean dress and even the old pair of shoes she has, even though
they’re too small for her. She heads over immediately afterwards to show
her “new look” to him.
Back at
Narvaez’s hacienda Ofelia gripes to the cook about Maricruz getting daily food
rations for her family. “—Must be that she’s a bit loose and Don Octavio
being a man and all, well….” The cook says no problem; she’s known Mari
for ages and she and her gramps are good people. Mari is especially good
natured, too, she adds. “—You just don’t like her because you know that
Eusabio has got a thing for her!” Ofelia mouths off some more and denies
Useless is anything but faithful. “--He can’t stand that trash and says
she disgusts him.”
Outside the main house, Lucia tells hubby Miguel that she
fibbed to Tav about him going to town to try to sell Tav’s portion of the
rancho. “--Tell him
something. You’ll know what to say.” Miguel goes around to poolside and
finds his kid brother moping about. He tells Tav that he just got back
and turned down an offer because the guy only wanted to pay one million pesos
when they both know it’s worth twenty times that. Oh well, then, says
Tav, how about if I put an ad in the papers in Mexico City. That way the
ad will be seen nationwide and I’m sure to sell it then! Miguel tries to
dissuade him saying he doubts he’ll get even a nibble. Tav doesn’t want
to hear it. “—Put the ad in, Miguel!” He walks off
in a huff. Miguel growls to himself. “Sure thing. Besides, if anyone
does call who’s interested, I’ll know how to discourage them. This land
is Narvaez land and only ours!”
Tav is
angry again, and he is moping by the pool when Mari comes by. She tries
getting his attention by yelling at him from the far end of the garden.
He sees her but just ignores her and walks into the house without a word.
She goes back home in a funk.
Mig and
Lucia want to prevent any prospective buyers who call to speak to Octavio and
they know it’ll be difficult if neither of them is home. They’ll have to
think of something cuz Mig is never going to let his brother sell
out. How far will he go to stop his brother, Lucia asks? As
far as he has to, answers Miguel!
A while
later, Tav drives over to Mari’s place and apologizes for his own funky
attitude. He meets her sis and Abuelo Ramiro. He stays for a while
and gets to know them all quite a bit more. Ramiro emphasizes to their
guest that Maricruz’s mother and father were married. However, she lives
with gramps cuz mama’s long dead and they have no idea where her daddy hangs
his hat these days. (So much for respectability, Gramps!)
We beam to the big city to a manse that would put drug lords
to shame. In the bedroom there’s a middle-aged rich guy, don Alejandro,
holding a picture to his chest and crying to himself over his lost love,
Lupita. She, according to the guy’s butler, was a gal who was lowborn and
poor as a church-mouse, and apparently unacceptable as a wife because of it. The
rich guy wonders whatever became of her.
While
Tav’s visiting with Mari’s family, Ofelia tells Lucia there’s a buyer for the
property. Rats! Lucia tells Ofelia to give this and any other calls
like it to her or hubby from now on. Octavio isn’t to know when any
buyers call to answer the ad. She grabs the phone and tells the caller
that they’ve already sold the property. Yeah, the price was so good the
person snatched it right up! Je-je.
When Tav comes upstairs and asks Lucia if she’s received any calls she lies that she had no idea he’d already put the ad in and says nope, no callers so far. She races downstairs to the kitchen and tells Mig the bad news that there’ve been two callers already. He’s worried that they won’t be able to keep Tav from speaking to at least one or two people over the two-three days the ad’s going to run. Not to worry, says Lucia, she’ll neutralize everything. None of the servants will give Tav the calls; they’ve got strict orders that they only go to either her or don Miguel. He’s to pretend to his brother that he’s tired of battling with the upkeep of the place and that he is eager to sell in the meantime. He’s such a fool, insists Lucia, that he’ll never be the wiser.

Maria wanders over to Ramiro’s shack and nearly gets shot by him, till she
explains she was only there to pick up the basket from the other day.
FF>>
Mari’s back at the hacienda stables picking up her
ration of food. This time Useless tries to proposition her over an extra
sandwich he has for her. He tells her to be nice and he’ll make sure she
continues to get food without a hassle once don Octavio leaves there for
good. She becomes furious, hands back the sandwich and storms off to find
Tav. Lucia and Miguel are there with Tav and Mig makes a lot of lewd
remarks about her. Lucia warns Octavio from getting any serious ideas about
the girl who seems to be enamored with Tav. “—She’s a wild animal!
Ugh!” Yeah, but what a looker, notes hubby! Tav says to get real
and to cut out the crude crap already. She’s just an innocent young
girl! Lucia walks off and
the two men follow. “—Hah, the innocent one around here is you!”
Lucia asks Mari what she wants. She’s there for the
food, right? Lucia bluntly
asks if she’s interested in Octavio. Mari
nods, but….huh? Head back home, advises Lucia, because it’s not right or
polite for a girl to provoke men this way. Mari has no idea what she’s
talking about. Tav turns to Lucia, embarrassed and then apologizes to
Mari, pretending it was just a stupid joke that fell flat. He and Lucia
fight over whether she had to right to send her off like that. Eventually
he joins Mari and walks her back to the end of the property. She asks Tav
why Lucia was so rude to her. He tries to explain as simply as possible
that she’s so pretty his SIL was jealous of her because of her husband.
She still seems not to understand and he tells her to forget about it.
Not to worry. He asks her not to come looking for him or to ask for her food at
the main house again.
Tav has to explain, again in very simple terms, almost as if
he’s talking to a ten year old child, that he’s probably going to leave the
hacienda and she’ll never see him again when he does. Also, she shouldn’t
make enemies of his brother and his wife or they might stop helping her once
he’s gone. She clings to him and begs him not to leave, not now, not
ever! He tries to tell her not to get emotionally tied down to him, and
not to take seriously whatever she thinks she feels for him. Because one of
these days she’ll meet some young man from her own class that will make her
just as happy. She doesn’t
think so. From the looks of
it, when he hugs her and tries to comfort her, he’s trying to reason with
himself as well.
In the
meantime, Simone comes over to visit with Lucia. Lucia mentions that her
BIL is attracted to the wild little neighbor girl. Simone doesn’t see a
problem if it’s just a dalliance of sorts. Well, still and all, says
Lucia, she’s going to have to intervene.
Tav
tries to talk Mari out of crying and kisses her cheek to comfort her
further. (Big mistake!) The two of them feel the same electricity,
one-to-another. He tells her again not to go any further than the
stables. She tells him then how Useless tried manhandling and propositioning
her over the sandwich he’d given her and then said how once Octavio leaves, he’d treat
her bad if she didn’t give into him. He promises to put the guy in his
place and to make sure she’s respected even after he leaves.
Tav
gets back to the stable area and asks Jose Antonio (another brown-eyed hunk of
eye-candy) to tell him when Eusabio gets back from wherever he’d gone. He
walks into the house and finds Miguel with Lucia. Tav tells Mig that he
wants a milk cow sent over to Maricruz’s hut so she won’t have to come to the
ranch for milk. Miguel is all QTH?
Mari
gets back home and asks her abuelo to find out where her father is for her and
to write him a letter so he’ll be interested enough to visit and shower her
with all sorts of goodies, like new clothes and shoes. Ramiro doesn’t
have the first clue where he is or how to find one, supposedly, but Mari is
sure her abuelo is smart enough to do it if he puts some effort into it.
(Viewerville has a sneaking suspicion that he could too--and with very little effort!)
Tav
angrily adds that he wants Miguel to put Useless in his place. He tried
to proposition Mari over some food! Miguel’s response is to kid Tav over
being jealous. Tav grabs him by the collar and looks like he really means
business! Miguel is slack-jawed impactado. Tav repeats what he
wants and says he doesn’t want her having to put up with this again after he’s
gone. Whatever it costs, take it out of his share of the sale of the
property, period. Miguel is still on his own obnoxious, chauvinist
wavelength. “—Wow, this has gone farther than I thought!” Tav is
ready to break his face but Lucia talks some sense into both of them and says
to hubby that of course Tav has a right to spend his part of the earnings from
the sale any way he pleases. “--Yeah, and I assure you once I have my
share you’ll never see me around these parts again!” He storms out of the
room. Miguel and Lucia both look like they wished he’d up an left already.
India
Maria follows Tav outside and suggests that she’ll take the foodstuffs to Mari’s hut instead of her
coming there again and that way avoid any more problems for Mari. Tav is
fine with that.
Once Useless is back, Tav heads to the stables. Tav, is on the warpath and he's looking like he is out for blood. He yells over to
Eusabio. “—Hey! Are
you interested in Maricruz??!!” (Wow,
is that a gotcha question or what?) Useless freezes while he thinks of
something he can say to lie his way out of this one.
At the
same time, Mari gets Ramiro to agree to find her daddy for her.
Jardinera:
ReplyDeleteThanks for this fab recap. I like your name for Ewww-sebio, Useless, cause he sure is useless. I hate that whip he is always carrying.
I like Abuelo Ramiro, and I hope he really knows where Maricruz's Papa is. I like when Maria came to retrieve her basket and he couldn't get rid of her fast enough, cause she talked so much he couldn't get a word in edgewise, lol.
Poor Maricruz. I can't stand Lucia and Miguel. Two heartless people. For a guy that doesn't have a job, I think Maricruz has become Octavio's full time job. I like the way he looks after her, but how long is that going to last? Once he leaves all bets are off.
Thank you for the wonderful recap, Jardinera
ReplyDeleteI don't see a romantic interest from Octavio right now, I think he just feels very bad for Maricruz and wants to help her as much as he can, but this is just me, of course. When he told her he would be leaving and she hugegd him, he seemed more uncomfortable than anything to me - I think he ckind of sees her like a child.
A child with very short dresses, none the less!! For a poor girl she sure has quite the collection of very short, partially ripped just in the right places, outfits. And she keeps grabbing them at the hem, like they are not short enough already.
Funny how Solita is dressed in such an appropriate way, with a cardigan and all...but then again; Solita doesn't have to roam the haciendas in search of food.
La India Maria is FF material for me. Someone asked yesterday if maybe they use her for the foreign market? Well, this foreign girl (France) is reallt bored with this part of the story, Moctavio is comic relief enough, and for me, so is Lucia.
I still can'y get used to Rene S. as a bad guy, everything that Miguel says about wanting to protect his land feels genuine for me, no matter the tactics he uses. I don't agree with Octavio about selling, so Miguel needs to do something more than just talk dirty about Maricruz to win my antipathy.
Thanks so much Jardinera. You're right, viewerville has already figured out a couple future plot points. Get those Bingo cards ready!
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm thinking after noting the too small shoes, is Mari stuck in clothes that were from years before when, just maybe, they weren't too short? yeah, yeah, I know....costume dept. really wants to show off Ana's assets, but I can give the girl a pass thinking maybe that's the issue.
I think Tav hasn't quite realized what his feelings might really be yet, but he's getting there. I give it one or two more episodes...
Jose is very nice eye candy...thank you!
You know one final point...seems Tav is painted as a lazy guy who doesn't do anything. Have we actually seen Miguel doing anything besides cavetching with his wife and eating?? Not exactly a hands-on owner either. Just sayin'.
Daisy
Loved the title, Jardinera.
ReplyDeleteI thought the second episode was better than the first. I definitely want to keep watching.
Great work on this, Jardinera.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is the classic fairy tale scenario of the poor abandoned -- or shanghaied -- daughter of a rich man. So much credibility being stretched. Why is she not employed as a servant where she can at least have a decent room to sleep in and clothes to wear?
What's wrong with the ranch is that Miguel isn't doing anything. His wife is one cold bitch, but we've seen Elizabeth Alvarez as crazy evil before.
Drinking cues I can think of:
1. The word "basura", which is beginning to irritate me already.
2. Ewwwsebio grabbing Maricruz.
I also have a problem with India Maria. I read through everything from yesterday's comments and somehow this still doesn't sink in. For some viewers I think she will be a major distraction.
The monkey is adorable.
Yes, it is interesting question about Miguel and his work. Lucia is a lazy housewife. Miguel is not successful in his work, because rancho passes through the bad times. And Octavio is a pilot. He has a profession and not an easy one. We still don't know why he left it, but he was working and not only spending the money, which his brother sent.
ReplyDeleteAlegria
Thanks Jardinera, I'm finding it difficult to like the main characters. I really hope that changes.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Maria as a comedic distraction. I don't need one, and she's not funny to me anyway.
And I also wondered why Maricruz didn't get a job at the hacienda in the past, if she is indeed old enough to work. It's hard to tell when she acts like she's 14 but looks like she's at least 20. What age are they putting her at as this story begins?
I also can't stand Eusabio's voice. It grates on my very last nerve.
Jardinera- Many thanks for this wonderful recap. I haven't seen this episode yet, but I could picture it all.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see the new hottie, and we haven't even been introduced to Ricardo Franco's pilot character yet. Things are definitely looking good in the man-candy department. :)
And yet, it's Eewwsebio who's getting all the action?! From what I remember of the 1st episode, the maid/cook is young and pretty (the troublemaker sister of Camilo in LFDD). Why is she hooking up with him?
It's kind of insulting that Octavio is giving Mari advice about bathing and dressing up. First of all, she does bathe and swim, but then she get dirty foraging for food. It's not like she didn't know personal hygiene. And given she's dirt poor, she likely doesn't have a walk-in closet bursting with clothes and shoes. Duh! Seems awfully presumptuous of him.
Yes, I think we are to assume the dresses are so short because she has simply grown out of them and hasn't had new(ish) clothes in a few years. She is a teen, after all, so it wouldn't have even been that many years since those dresses went from being knee-length to minis.
I'm glad Maria suggested that she be the one to pick up and deliver the food. I did not like the look of those stables-- too remote and filled with men. Octavio couldn't have agreed to a worse location for a young girl to go alone. Once again, not really thinking.
What makes Octavio think that everyone will follow his orders when he's gone? They're not even following his orders while he's there!
Tks Jar,
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's going to take long for you to fill your bingo cards the way this is going. Hospital might be a while since we are out in the countryside.
Abuelo Ramiro, Ignacio López Tarso was Fermin in LQNPA.
It is a cute mono & I don't usually like them except in their own environment, nasty little critters.
We have some running free around here, in addition to alligators, pythons, giant snails & monitor lizards on the west coast.
About Maria working--- There seems to be poor (the workers at the hacienda), and then too poor (Mari and her family). Everyone looks down on them and sees them as uneducated animals, not worthy of being given an opportunity. Plus, I think that Mari is so pretty, that the women of any household she would try to work in would be jealous of her (like Lucia), and the men would try to take advantage of her (knowing she has few other options).
ReplyDeleteIt might also be that Abuelo Ramiro doesn't want Mari or Solita to be away from him, or for them to be associated with rich people. Obviously the love story between his daughter and rich guy Alejandro didn't end well. He may now be really cautious or paranoid about that happening again (which we know it will).
"What makes Octavio think that everyone will follow his orders when he's gone? They're not even following his orders while he's there!"
ReplyDeleteGood point, Vivi! Octavio expects everyone to listen to his orders, no questions asked, but are they supposed to give Maricruz and her family food for all eternity? And now a cow? How is Maricruz supposed to feed the cow? Or shelter it?
Why not ask his SIL if there are any available jobs at the ranch for the girl? Scrubbing floors, helping in the kitchen - just giving her the food won't help on the long run and it just sends her the wrong message that it is enough to find a nice man that kind of likes you and all the problems can go away. And then, even if they decide to fire her after Octavio leaves, at least she'd have some skills by then.
Plot contrivances like this make me turn off tns. Maybe a story like this worked back in the day, but now, with life being so hard for everyone IRL... not so much.
Urban Anthropologist, I propose another drinking cue: whenever Maricruz grabs her dress by the hem, making it look even shorter (it was all I could look at last night);
or whenever Lucia wears a cocktail dress just to sit around the house (but then, we would be so drunk, nobody would remember a single detail about the tn).
What job here? For Lucia Maricruz is a basura. No way she will give her a job here. As far as I remember, Maricruz said, that noone like her and Octavio was the first person who helped her. I'm sure, Maricruz wants to have a job, but noone would give her a chance. She is too wild, because her grandfather was too old to educate her well
ReplyDeleteAlegria
Vivi-- thanks for mentioning the young maid's role in LFDD. I was going crazy trying to figure out why she looked so familiar.
ReplyDeleteThanks, folks. I hope all the late night typos are now fixed. --Manohman!! I feel like I'm watching something like a Mexican version of a Tennesse Williams novel or play. Mississippi Delta slime and moral degeneracy all the way.
ReplyDelete"...What makes Octavio think that everyone will follow his orders when he's gone? They're not even following his orders while he's there!" Those were my thoughts exactly! LOL! Great plot set-up though! Definitely get those bingo cards ready!
=========
India Maria, tho' I have great respect for her early years as a successful comedian and cultural icon on t.v. and in the movies, her version of slapstick has been lost in translation, so to speak. Not my cup o' cava. How she wangled this role got them to agree to keep her in cartoonish character really grates visually as well as aurally on my metallic beanie like fingernails on a chalkboard. Like that movie with Bob Hoskins and the rabbit.
============
I thought Mari told Tav everyone looked down on her family and refused to give them work so that was why she resorted to stealing food from the family. IMHO the women are jealous of her natural beauty and her happy, carefree personlity and so that's why she's never been hired on. Probably Lucia's doing.
... and jealous of her sparkling white teeth, to be that poor I wonder what she uses, ashes? Charcoal from burnt corn tortilla?
ReplyDeleteI just realized where I had seen Isabel González (Simona) before -- she was in the 2003 novela, "Bajo la misma piel" where she played a crazed woman named Norma. The circumstances were different but her affect was identical to Simona's.
ReplyDelete[This novela was interesting and had a dynamite cast including Kate del Castillo, Juan Soler, Diana Bracho, Victor Noriega -- would love to see it again.]
Vivi, thanks for identifying the wicked wench of the kitchen -- for the life of me, I couldn't place her.
And of course, thanks for the excellent recap, Jardinera!
So, beanie time here, to weigh in on Mari's age...anyone else think maybe she's suppose to be just this side of a tween? Maybe 17 - 18 tops? Wild or not, if she was older, I would think she would have some thoughts about moving on to find work, etc. She seems too resigned to her status which makes me think she isn't over 18 yet and doesn't feel old enough to head out into the world.
ReplyDeleteI can sort of buy why no one has offered her a working role at the ranch..look at the owners. Miguel is a leering jerk, and well, what wife wants a pretty young girl around with someone who spouts off like he does?
In a way, I can't wait for the fast-forward on this one. I think the whole falling for the "wild girl" will get old fast and watching Ana be all blushing and pulling on that hem may make us all raging drunks.
Daisy
How old the deaf-mute woman supposed to be? Older than Maricruz? She looks older and with a Huuuge pair of you-know-what...
ReplyDeleteAlso, Lucía doesn't need anybody better looking than her around since she has Ofelia, whose dresses are way too short and way to low around the chest. When she was about to serve breakfast, I could almost see her a$$ on the way to the kitchen and once there, she lowered over the table and I was afraid of some ''wardrobe malfunction''. Do you want milk in your cereal, Sir?
I am sure Inés Rodena is rolling in her grave (unless she specified this story should have a remake every 20 years, which I doubt).
Instead of keep making the same novelas over and over until the end of time, Televisa should have a channel where they show the originals. I am sure I am not the only one wishing to see TN from the 50s, 60s, and so on...
Am I?
What I like in this story the most - it's very and very dynamic.
ReplyDeleteAlegria
Pablo- Soledad is younger than Maricruz. In real life Ana Brenda is 26 and Gabriela Mellado (Soledad) is 20.
ReplyDeleteI would watch the old tns from the 50s and 60s mostly out of fascination, and a bit of admiration. Fascination because, like the mammy in 1990s Marimar, I am sure there would be a whole lot that would offend me. Out of admiration, because I am sure there are actors, directing and filming styles that would impress me given when they were filmed.
Love your style, Jardinera.
ReplyDelete"Useless"(this actor always seems to play slimeballs) and "a manse that would put drug lords to shame" were two of my favorites to note from the recap.
This is not a telenovela I'd stay up for, but since it comes at the dinner hour, I'm on board (always justifying it as doing my Spanish homework rather than just watching crap TV).
Counting on this fine team's recaps and the interesting comments to keep me going though. Otherwise I might just have to load the dishwasher and go out and weed the garden!
Well... she is sure a lot more ''developed''
ReplyDeleteI remember watching TN (and not paying attention to them) as early as mid 70s. There is a list of them I would like to watch now that I can focus on them properly, but they are not available in any way or form.
I would love to see the original Corazon Salvaje with Enrique Lizalde as Juan del Diablo. The earliest thing I ever saw was Madres Egoistas with Julieta Rosen.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a telenovela I'd stay up for, but since it comes at the dinner hour, I'm on board.
ReplyDeleteDitto. But that may not be saying much since I have been known to hit the sack before PEAM is even over.
The more I read comments the more I realize how low I've set the bar for my entertainment choices. I can never seem to get into the "good" TNs (ie: LQNPA and AB), but I seem fascinated by the "beanie" ones.
Pablo I would LOVE to see TNs from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Sara- I think you just have to accept that you like cheese and schlock. Nothing wrong with that. Just embrace it! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLOL Vivi! I love the cheese and schlock, it's true.
ReplyDeleteI know Vivi disagrees with me, but I would submit that it is ALL cheese and schlock, Sara.
ReplyDeleteSometimes the cheese is Velveeta -- bland but it melts like a dream; sometimes it's Roquefort -- some say it's an acquired taste for the refined palate while others just say it stinks; and sometimes it's a hunk of aged Swiss, not reproached for but rather prized for its holes.
This here novela is a cheese plate. [Pass the Tostitos, please.]
Your metaphor is brilliant, NovelaMaven! *hands over the Tostachos*
ReplyDeleteOh Balzac, Sara. [heh heh]
ReplyDeleteNovelaMaven- Oh, I agree with you. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of dairy products...am I the only one who thought it would be very difficult for Maricruz to carry that huge container of milk by herself. Heck, even Octavio seemed to sling it around with superhuman strength. Of course I'm a city girl with no knowledge of dairy farming.
ReplyDeleteBest performance in this TN so far is the burro.
ReplyDeleteHey, all. Thanks for taking the time to read and to comment! I do appreciate the early telecast for this one after having to recap 10PM shows for two? years now. BTW, it's nice seeing so many oldtimers back. It's like old home week!
ReplyDeleteCheese Whizz is more along the lines of what I'd describe this one as. Anyway, I am rather mesmerized by the way Rene Strickler has managed to look like an escapee from a drug rehab center after usually looking like he's ready for a GQ shoot. I think Daniel Arenas is Mr. Universe material. Can't wait for the shower scenes. That Jose Antonio is definitely a nice surprise! What rock have they been hiding him under at Televisa, hmmmm?
BLMP was my second novela. It was quite good, but the ending left me blah. I have seen many more I've liked better more recently, but Kate and Juan are terrific actors and always wonderful to watch no matter what the storyline.
Wow, all this cheese talk. I'm such a cheese-aholic, that my mouth is watering. I hope this cheese whizz turns into at least American cheese. Not that I like that cheese either, but processed cheese better than canned cheese. It would be too much to ask that this turns into brie or aged cheddar.
ReplyDeleteJust a note about tomorrow's recap.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I'm on pacific time, and second, I watched the online version and I will need cc's to get the detail, which means I have to watch my recording. So it will be late morning pacific time before I can get it up. But I will post a comment page for everyone until it's ready.
I like this new look for Jose Antonio, the stable hand. I only remember him playing doctors before (Carlos in Rafaela; Osvaldo in Mar de Amor) and as the young Isidro in CME. He was also in PESE but I didn't watch that one, so don't know who he played. He looks much better playing the rugged, outdoor type!
ReplyDeleteVivi and Jardinera - thanks so much for these first two recaps - they're great! I've only been able to catch snippets of CI (currently watching Amores Verdaderos and Patrona) so your write-ups and the bloggers' comments have been very helpful in understanding what's going on in this TN. So far (2 eps?) this one looks more interesting than QBA, and I do like the casting (except for the monkey - have never cared for monkeys).
ReplyDeleteThanks much - Beth
First of all. Please stop with the cheese talk!! I'm trying to be vegan here and cheese is one of the things I'm finding the hardest to give up :)
ReplyDeletePablo: I would love to see some of the older TNS. Speaking of which, I watched the villains special and there was a TN that, I could swear, had an actor in black-face!
I found the first two eps boring, but know it's too early to make a judgment on this one.
I recoginize Useless as being one of the thugs who kidnapped Aurora in MEPS and the grandfather played Ciro's lawyer in MEPS. The woman with the long grey hair in the kitchen looks familiar. and, of course, CE from AB.
Thanks Sara C and Blue Lass. It's been almost three weeks. It's better, but not good. You all know what I mean. My 11 year old cat, Julie, was up during the night wanting to play. She seems ready for a new companion. I'm not.
Back to the TN: I'm looking forward to the time jump.
Awesome recap, Jar.
Nanette
I believe you. In México there's maybe only three families from African heritage that work in the show business: Marichal, Laboriel and Zamora. The rest, they had to either bring people from Cuba or paint them.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you won't believe me, but as late as 1974, they still do it. Check ADORABLES MUJERCITAS, where Maritza Olivares used instant coffe and an afro wig to portray a colored woman...
Do you know where can I see that Especial de villanos? It would be great!
Pablo: Univision showed it a few weeks ago. I've heard that there are going to be more villain specials. A few months ago Uni had a special on weddings.
ReplyDeleteI found it on YT but it doesnt have any sound (Aurora Valle & Martha Carrillo), or maybe is my computer... I will check it out, thanks!
ReplyDeletePablo: glad you found it. I couldn't find any reference to it when I searched. Didn't try YT because Uni is so good about cleaning its programming off there.
ReplyDeleteWell... Hulu was my first option, but they didn't have it, so I went to the 2nd option. Univisión is probably the cause why the sound is missing, LOL!
ReplyDeleteJardinera---A BIG thank you for your recap.
ReplyDeleteIt's late and so I will be brief.
Some have said that the novela is boring---not for me. I like it and can't wait to see how it developes.
Cathyx asked, what age is Maricruz?
Who cares-what difference? Ana Brenda is a goddess at any age.
Adriana Noel on India Maria---I don't agree. I like her. I think that she is a colorful and adds local color/flavor to the story.
Why doesn't Maricruz get a job at the ranch? Vivi said it best. She would be despised and picked on by the women and would be a helpless
sitting duck for the lecherous male
ranch hands. She definitely would not be safe there.
Can't wait for episode #3 As I said
I like this one.
the gringo
Love the cheese whiz comparison (sorry Nanette)! But like canned cheese, this would be really good after a couple drinks.
ReplyDeleteIll forgive her short dresses if we're assuming she got them when she was 12 or so, but I'd still like to know how she keeps them white. She may have a future if she can bottle up whatever she's using.
It's a good thing no one is lactose intolerant if they go through that whole container every day.
Kelly
Kelly, maybe you should try washing your whites on a rock in a pond. Then lay them out in the sun to bleach them.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's a water in Tamaulipas :))))

ReplyDeleteHa ha. That would be rough sleeping in that small shack if someone were.
That was a darn good recap. Can't believe I am now watching 4 novelas a night. Que Bonita Amor is on cruz control and I have learned to look up when they are not singing.
ReplyDeleteThought maricruz said the shoes were some, too small her grandfather found.
Compared to Leonicio ewe e doesn't seem that bad so far.
Are we to assume, wild thing is going to become little rich girl once Deonicio passes on?
Nanette--if you can stay away from cheese for three months, then the cheese substitutes are pretty good. Daiya is really good.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, before I took cheese off my diet, I used to adore Easy Cheese. Mmmm. Aerosol cheese and saltines. I confess I kept a box of saltines and a can of easy cheese in a desk drawer at school.
GAH! Kept forgetting to say this all day:
ReplyDeleteI love the way Cesar Evora looks in this one. I'm going to like seeing him as a lovable guy. Not a "supposed to be a good guy but the audience knows he's an interloping Dr. Sabelotodo who won a twitter poll." like he was in TdA
Sara C: I've tried Daiya cheese and like it. It's generally considered to be one of the few cheese substitutes that is closest to real cheese in taste. The problem is it's only in limited stores and it's not very convenient for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking foward to seeing CE play a good guy, too.
It's hard to find here, too. :(
ReplyDeletePablo- I am watching tonight's episode and now that its been pointed out I can't stop looking at Soledad's "assets". Lol
Gringo, if you think Ana Brenda is a goddess as Maricruz, wait until you see her as refined Maria Alejandra. You'll wish you were one of her many suitors.
ReplyDeleteCathy- Great idea! I'm sure the city wouldn't mind my using the river if I explain why it's necessary.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little worried about Soledad. We know Mari ends up living the rich life (if a little bitter maybe?), but nothing about Soledad. We'll find out of course, but I'm concerned for her.
Kelly
They better start making cheese, that sure is a lotta milk for three people for one day!!
