TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- La Reina del Sur, et cetera, Week of December 9, 2013

This is where you get to discuss and recap La Reina del Sur and any other Telemundo or Unimás show -- or anything else that isn't in Univisión's primetime lineup.

Remember: Marido en Alquiler and Santa Diabla have their own pages.

Have a great week, friends.  Try to stay warm.

  1. I finally caught up with book & novela.

They run pretty close. Some differences though. Fátima is not in the book. Probably the reason they inserted her in the novela, is for Teresa to have someone to express her thoughts to.

After the boat crash, the helicopter pilot let the co-pilot take over the heli & he jumped in the water to save Teresa.

I didn't catch these words if they were in the TN
Güero calls Teresa prietita = little dark skinned girl
    prieta = dark, blackish,- swarthy(Mex)

Dris is called a Rifeño. Someone from the Rif area of Morocco & a variety of the Berber language.

    http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idioma_rife%C3%B1o

    morra = girlfriend, girl (slang)

  2. Last week a reporter from NPR reached out to a few of us on the blog to interview us about the announced Telemundo sequel to El Senor de los Cielos. For some reason, I'm the only one from the blog that ended up being quoted. In any case, always cool to see a story on telenovelas, and Caray Caray got a shout out!

What a couple heavy epis! I missed Thursdays, but got to watch Santiago's death, ugh! And now Teresa is in the carcel.

Macoco didn't know who she was messing with. I'm glad that Teresa gave her a beat down. I don't like the venganza preview.

Patty is a surprise. I don't think she is as shallow as I first thought. Funny how she gets her privileges. Well, she is an O'Farrell after all ; )

I am glad that Fatima went to visit Teresa in jail and told her what Eddy did. I wouldn't want to be Eddy when Teresa come out of the jail. Oh, and liked Fatima going into the house, was it the bathroom? I hope Teresa put some money away like she did before. Fatima's son has grown. How long has Teresa been in prison now?

It's funny how bad news travels fast and that Epifano found out all this from his Capo the info including Santiago's name and what he did and that Teresa is now in prison doing five years.

    Vivi:

Wow, I read the article and great shout out to Caray Caray. I really liked your quotes and so spot on : )

    Deb:

As always thanks for the link.

  8. Vivi,

The NPR reporter also contacted me, but when I got back to her, she told me she already had all that she needed. And she was right! You made some great points about the past and future El Señor de los Cielos. And, of course, I was delighted too that there was a link to CarayCaray.

  9. TELEMUNDO

"Marido en Alquiler" is in 'ultimas semanas'.

"La Reina del Sur", I think last night was chapter 20 out of 63.

"Santa Diabla" may still be filming.

"La Impostora" is currently filming on "a ranch near the central Mexican city of Cuernavaca".

"En Otra Piel" has begun filming this week in Miami, (official press release)
    http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/networks/telemundo/pressreleases?pr=contents/press-releases/2013/12/09/telemundostudio1495714.xml

"El Señor de los Cielos" began filming the first week of Dec, in Mexico city, (official press release)
    http://www.nbcumv.com/mediavillage/networks/telemundo/pressreleases?pr=contents/press-releases/2013/12/02/telemundokickso1490489.xml

I would imagine that this will be filmed in it's entirety before it is shown, (is this done to avoid any conflicts with real narcos?)

  10. El Señor

Vivi, thanks so much for posting the link to your comments on the upcoming Señor II. Good to see your remarks and nice to know that NPR is aware of us!

The thing I'm wondering about is this: I got the impression that the one they're doing now is supposed to be after Aurelio has his face change. How is that doing to be handled? Isn't Amaya going to be in the show?

  11. Deb, thanks for all the updates on upcoming novelas. Anyone know if La Impostora is a remake? From the previews it looks like Christian Bach is playing the mother to her real son, Sebastian.

  12. REINA

Variopinta, in the very first episode El Güero is shown in a flashback telling Teresa that, if that special cell phone ever rings, corre, corre, prietita. So we know that he probably affectionately called her prieta or prietita. Mexicans are VERY conscious of skin color.

Thanks so much for the link to the NPR blog. I never did catch up with the reporter -- so glad you did! Nice.

OUR Vivi!! I'm so proud. You represented us well. This is such a great blog.

Sad to have missed last Friday night (family obligations), but maybe better after all. Ivan Sanchez played such a great character, I'm kind of glad I didn't have to see his demise, although I think I could have guessed it from the avances. Anyway, it's time to move the plot along, and the prison scenes are pretty gripping. That Patty is a tall gal; sorta looks like a model. How long is she in for anyway? Can't believe her family won't spring her before long. And Tere is certainly holding her own. I love Fàtima. She's such a sweet softie with that gloriously accented voice and gorgeous mane of dark hair.

And tks deb for posting the link to the old recaps. Now, I can catch up before the show airs tonight.

  15. REINA MARTES

What an epi this was. I really liked that library and Teresa reading "The Count of Monte Cristo". She was really enthralled with the book.

It's sad what happened to Adriana. I think both Teresa and Patty feel guilty for not being able to save her.

Does this Prison Warden have it in for Teresa? It seems like it. I wonder if he is being influenced.

So Ratas is getting out of jail soon and Epifanio has to hire him back. I wonder how that will go over. Batman didn't look enthused.

  16. REINA

    I enjoy your comments, Madelaine.

I always replay Makoqui's dialog a couple of times because I get such a kick out of that paisa Colombian lower-class accent. We'll see a man who speaks that way later in the show.

There is some sense of Teresa literally being a female Count of Monte Cristo. A person who was betrayed, went to prison, and came out to ... I won't say what she comes out to so as not to post spoilers to first-time viewers.

We saw another example of first-rate Kate del Castillo acting last night in the scene where she is all over Teniente O'Farrell for being partly responsible for the new girl's death by competing with Makoqui to bed her. And about this mostly being a power play.

  20. Reina,

    @novelera
I don't know if this was covered earlier at caray, caray (as it does contain spoilers) but Cristina Urgel (Paty) posted a blog during her time filming, (it starts with cutting her long hair), and if you haven't seen this before, you might enjoy reading it now, or again.
(btw, to start at the beginning you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page)

  22. El Señor II and more
Great quotes, Vivi and it is so cool that Caray is mentioned.

I saw a promo today for Avenida Brasil, which was promoted for a while in the 9pm slot before Telemundo decided to repeat Reina. It may be replacing Bella Calamidades, which is about to end in the 12-2 slot (Eastern Time) on Telemundo.

Is it airing for the 3rd time? I love this tn.

    MundoFox/ La Vida Sigue

Just watched first time Thursday's episode. Looks topnotch. Since La Tempestad ended, nothing else grabbed me until now.

Deb - I am looking forward to La Impostora, also with Mauricio Henao, and Jonathan Islas. I hope it delivers.

Deb, funny you should mention a video of Cristina Urgel getting her long hair cut for the role. I love Patty's short cut and wondered if they were going to show her stylist coming in to give her a trim.

Don't like Patty though. Her getting Adriana high in order to seduce her reminded me too much of guys who use rufies to get what they want.

Surprised that the "housewife" was unsympathetic to Adriana. Maybe Adriana reminded her of everything she isn't.

Yay, based on the previews, we’re leaving lock-up.

"It's funny how bad news travels fast"

Madelaine, yep that was funny how Epifano knew all all Teresa's business. What a gossip.

an old TW post on Marbella, Spain, where Teresa is currently working and living,

    http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=795&i=2671&t=2671#reply_2671

and a repost of Hombre's original caray recap, plus a comment,
    ..................................
    REINA - Miercoles

568 pages. Yes, Teresa read the whole Count of Monte Cristo in jail, and Patty gives her a new book, "Pedro Paramo", by Juan Rulfo, a Mexican author. This book is much shorter, and Teresa doesn't understand all of it, but loves its poetic imagery, which reminds her of her Mexican roots.

Two years pass, and since Patty has been working behind the scenes to help Teresa's case (getting her parents to hire attorneys, for example), Tere is free! Well, she has to report to a parole officer every week, and stay out of trouble. Patty gives her a reference, and she moves to Marbella, getting a job as a waitress in a bar called La Chiringuita (I think), whose owner is Tony, another creep in the Dris mold, who makes her work 12 hours a day, at least.

Another year passes, and Patty's free, too! They meet up, go to a party at Patty's family house in Jerez, and another handsome guy, Teo, is introduced to Teresa. But he's married. Anyway, Patty tells Teresa about the half ton of cocaine which is hidden, and says if Teresa helps her sell it, she'll split everything 50/50, which could mean millions of dollars.

Teresa warns that people don't forget about that quantity of drugs, even after 3 years, and she's right. Juarez (the cop) tells his associate Florez that Patty's out, and they're going to use her to find those drugs. The drugs are hidden in an extensive cave at the edge of the water.

    and...

I thought it was cool the way Teresa's belongings she retrieved when she left the jail consisted of 3 pieces of jewelry, each from a significant man. There was the necklace from Don Epifanio, the bracelet from Guero, and the ring from Santiago.

Patty mush have nerves of steel. Might the Russians be a bit ticked that she kept silent so long about the location of their dope?

Patty's got a thing for Teresa, but I'm not sure how she expects Teresa to help with this deal, other than moral support. Neither has experience in this.
