Not much happened
tonight folks, so I’m keeping it short and sweet.
Diego’s captors take him bound and gagged to the police
station. El, Morales and their police crew have been informed of “Rod’s”
capture and hustle him off to the cells without question. Mom and son bounty
hunters tell El every detail of the capture and then try to get their reward, while
Diego tries to convince the underling cops guarding his cell that he’s in fact
Diego. They don’t believe him, so he uses the ruse of needing to use the
bathroom to knock one of the cops out and make a run for it. He is swiftly
knocked out cold by another cop. El informs Alonso and Grumps of Rod’s capture,
and Grumps informs Irene. They all rush to the police station. By the time Irene
and Grumps get there, Diego has managed to convince El and Al of his identity
by telling them things only Diego would know. Bounty hunter mom and son don’t believe
the twin story and think the cops just don’t want to give them the million peso
reward. El is able to pacify them by saying they'll get a letter of commendation,
AND a police escort back home.
At Caprico, Simona makes the mistake of asking Nat if she’s
seen Diego. She hasn’t been able to reach him all weekend since she saw him Saturday
evening. Unfortunately, Nat has decided that all is fair in love and war. In
other words, she’s decided she can be a mean girl. She tells Simona about Diego
being seen kissing on some older lady that weekend, and that it’s not unusual
for him to just disappear for a couple of days like this. Even after Nat learns
that Diego actually spent the weekend tied up (literally), she’s content with
letting Simona continue to believe that Diego is a cheater and a flake.
Diego may not be a cheater and a flake, but he is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer as he has yet again not told a woman he’s involved with that he has an EVIL IDENTICAL TWIN. He has to explain the whole thing to Simona, going all the way back to the coma, so that she’ll believe he wasn’t really the one seen kissing some woman that weekend. They kiss and make up. Simona even defends him when they go out to dinner that night and he’s attacked by a woman Rod boinked and robbed.
After clearing things up with Simona, who reveals Nat is the
one who told her about him kissing that woman, Diego goes to Caprico to tell
Nat off. He is briefly sidetracked when Nat tells him she and Andres broke up
and that she still loves Diego, but then he finds his backbone. He points out
that he begged and begged and she rejected him. Now he’s got Simona and Nat is
nothing but a memory. Nat is shocked! Shocked! She can’t believe Diego is over
her. Irene doesn’t look surprised.
Al takes a page from Nat’s book, and also comes creeping
tonight. He visits Irene at Caprico and tries to rekindle the fire. Irene tells
him to put on the brakes. Even with Tad no longer in the picture, she still
thinks there are many reasons she and Al may not work: 1) the age difference;
2) his impulsive behavior which led to him cheating with Karina; and 3) the
baby he’s about to have with Karina. Irene says she’s happy for Al that he’s
going to have a baby, but she really doesn’t know if she wants to be a part of
all that. She leaves him standing there, and she looks pretty darned happy and
at peace. You go, Irene!
Meanwhile, Al’s baby-mama, Karina, gets excited every time
the phone rings, thinking it’s her male nurse admirer. Al’s secretary, who has
come to care for Karina and to teach her to knit, takes note and reports back
to Al. Al tells Karina that it’s cool with him if she has a boyfriend, or a guy
friend, or whatever. But he wants to make clear that HE is the baby’s father.
Karina is happy that Al seems jealous, but seems even more excited by the
prospect of another call from her admirer. Meanwhile, her admirer is being
counseled by his hospital administrator friend that it might not be a good idea
for him to fall for this girl who is pregnant with someone else’s child. He’s
convinced Karina’s baby-daddy doesn’t love her, while he wants to take care of
her. Have at it, dude!
Lupita continues to turn the heat up on El by getting cozy
with Mushroom Man. She looks pretty happy learning French and trading air
kisses with Frenchy. MM also seems happy to finally have someone appreciate his
culture. The Brat, who has lowered herself to working at the fonda (chopping
onions, no less!), is jealous of the attention MM is paying to Lupita and not
to her. For once, Nat is not the target of her jealousy and resentment. El
comes to the fonda to see the new happy family unit with his own eyes, and
Lupita hardly pays him any attention as she chats with MM. Brat whispers venom
in El’s ear about MM and Carmen, and he reacts by asking Carmen to return the
money he invested in the fonda after the robbery. Carmen is on the verge of
tears, but doesn’t argue with him. After he leaves, MM asks Carmen what he can
do to make her feel for him what she feels for El. She tells him he’d need to
be reborn, in Tuxpan, and named Eleazar!
Rod continues to work his hustle on older ladies at bars and
clubs, in order to earn the money for his fake passport and airline ticket.
Tomorrow: Rod tries to
fly out of the country and has to disguise himself as airport security when the
cops arrive looking for him. Shots are fired. Will Rod finally be caught?
Thank you so much, Vivi in DC. I always enjoy reading your recaps!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure it's just me, but the story is losing me. When Diego told Natalia to take a hike, I was ready to take a hike. Really? At this point in the story, he's telling her to take a hike?
The only thing that interests me now is Little Lupita working her charm. I love that kid!
Points to Irene. She surprised me.
Fatima
Vivi thanks so much for your recap. Though not a lot happened, I had to laugh at the latest obstacle for Nat and Diego. Now he doesn't love her. I'm getting really concerned for poor Simona especially if Diego believes she's his new love.
ReplyDeleteI was also happy that Irene put the brakes on little Al's dream. She has real concerns about his character (as do we) and his "monitoring" of Karina's potential dates didn't seem like sensitivity to her needs/desires but control. If only, Al would stick to his strengthens and those aren't personal relationships.
Gracias, Vivi! I agree that not a lot happened tonight...lots of going in circles...frustrating!
ReplyDelete"Diego may not be a cheater and a flake, but he is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer as he has yet again not told a woman he’s involved with that he has an EVIL IDENTICAL TWIN." Seriously, dude! Just wear a button on your lapel or something. I'm not happy that even after the mistaken identity was cleared up, nobody thought to have Andres tell the cops where and when he saw Rodrigo. I guess, given the previews for tomorrow, it wasn't a make-or-break piece of information.
"Nat is shocked! Shocked!" Good! I don't like that she veered into Mean Girl territory. That's the kind of trick she could have pulled on Diana and I would have been fine with it, but Simona has done nothing to deserve the 'tude. So, yeah, I'm glad that Diego didn't jump when she snapped her fingers. It makes me curious what they're going to do to get the two of them back together, since I'm still pretty sure that's where the tracks on this roller coaster are going.
"She leaves him standing there, and she looks pretty darned happy and at peace. You go, Irene!" *applause*
"He’s convinced Karina’s baby-daddy doesn’t love her, while he wants to take care of her. Have at it, dude! " Looks like it's going to be a Karina-HOTscar pairing!
"She looks pretty happy learning French and trading air kisses with Frenchy." Lupita was so darn cute learning French! Another day and I'm sure she'll have it down.
I would like to send a special shin-kick to the writers for all the "older women are groooooooss!!" jokes that have been flying around since Rod started his new job. Not funny, dudes. Not funny.
I completely agree, Kat. Older women are not grossss.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great recap Vivi. You hit the main points of a mostly pointless episode. Clearly we are in the doldrums. Despite being near the end, there seems to be little action. Hopefully tonight things will begin to perk up.
I admit I was a little bummed by Diego saying Nat was just a memory. It was pretty believable to me, but I assume we are NOT going to get a curve ball in this one, so what will they do with Simona?
And I don't want Karina to die. I don't think she really deserves it, so I hope she, HOTscar (love it), Al and Irene can come to a baby-sharing agreement when this is all over and done.
Morning Fatima, Kat, Karen and Sara. This is for the early comments.
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised by how both Irene and Diego seemed so ready to move on from Al and Nat. It seems like the writers are going to have to do something dramatic for these couples to end up with each other. I just want Simona to be able to walk away with her dignity.
Lupita always seems to have a great time with her siblings' dads, even when she's trying to get rid of them. It was fun seeing her and the Mushroom interacting. And I loved seeing Brat chopping onions. :)
That's, THANKS for the early comments.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm rooting for Karina and Oscar. She's needy, and he's a natural nurturer/caregiver. He's perfect for her.
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm rooting for them, too. Even with her flaws I can get behind this pairing. I'm fed up with the rest of the couples.
ReplyDeleteWhere are Paolo and his girl?
Vivi, this was superb. You had me laughing throughout - there were so many marvelous lines it was hard to pick favorites.
ReplyDelete"Diego may not be a cheater and a flake, but he is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer as he has yet again not told a woman he’s involved with that he has an EVIL IDENTICAL TWIN"; "Simona even defends him when they go out to dinner that night and he’s attacked by a woman Rod boinked and robbed" and "Al takes a page from Nat’s book, and also comes creeping tonight" were all sensational.
Karen, you nailed what was bothering me about Al. Well, what was bothering me even more than ususal because he irks the hell out of me. Why does he need his secretary to report back to him? They have a "business" arrangement correct? And frankly, it's none of his business. Harrummph.
“She leaves him standing there, and she looks pretty darned happy and at peace. You go, Irene!” Totally agree Vivi. Fatima, I was also surprised at Irene’s reaction. Dare we hope she never goes back??
I also thought Nat's attack was unfair Kat, considering Simona has done nothing wrong. Not everyone is Diana...
"And I'm rooting for Karina and Oscar. She's needy, and he's a natural nurturer/caregiver. He's perfect for her". Exactly! I'm with Sara - I'm sure suitable arrangements can be made so that the child is loved and cared for by both Karina and Al and Oscar (noting I'm purposely omitting Irene).
Thanks again Vivi!
Happy Friday all.
Diana
Good morning Vivi. Thanks so much for that wise and thorough recap.
ReplyDelete"Diego may not be a cheater and a flake, but he is also not the sharpest knife in the drawer as he has yet again not told a woman he’s involved with that he has an EVIL IDENTICAL TWIN."
Exactly. But so far, Simona is proving herself to be a much better girlfriend than Natalia. She let Diego explain. She listened. And she believed him.
The same scene would have had Natalia flouncing out the door, after a resounding slap, and weeks and weeks of distance before a temporary reconciliation.
Last night I was actually happy Diego dumped Natalia and Irene put off Alonso. Don't think I've ever watched a telenovela where I was against BOTH of the main romantic hookups. The writers are going to have to come up with some real magic to pull this off so we're rooting for them again.
At least we have the delight of watching Lupita work over both Mushroom Man and Eleazar.
As always...thanks for your hard work. You have a demanding day job and a busy personal life. That you make time for this and for us is such a gift. Mil gracias, amiga mia.
Tks Vivi
ReplyDeleteCount down, 30 caps to go. I am bored with the the whole thing, but will stick with it.
This looks as though they added stupid stuff & more N & D breakups, more Al & Ir convo, more unnecessary Al & Ka crap, yawn, the completely unnecessary MM, he should have returned to France long ago. One bight spot, Lupita!
Was this TN that popular in Mex?
Variopinta- There are only 11 capitulos to go, not 30. This was Mexico episode 175. Just two weeks left to wrap up everything. Yes, this was popular in Mexico. I think all tns that go beyond 130 caps drag towards the end like this. 180+ is just too much.
ReplyDeleteVivi, you are a master at recapping. You're able to retell the episode in an interesting and objective way. Love, love, love your style!
ReplyDeleteAww! Thanks Sue. That's such a nice thing to say.
ReplyDeleteJudy- Yes. Simona reacts like an adult, while Nat still reacts like a teenager whenever anything goes wobbly in her relationship with Diego. So refreshing!
Diana- ITA. I think Karina's baby could benefit greatly from having two daddies. Lord knows s/he will need it with a nutty mom like Karina.
Sara- I am assuming couples like Paolo-Mara and Abdul-Mali are having normal, loving, drama-free relationships, which is why we haven't seen much of them.
Thanks Vivi.
ReplyDelete"Have at it, dude!"
Wow, what a shocker and I thought I was part of the me generation
Alonso - but, but, the old guys dead and I want some
Nat - well, that's just not possible
Irene - do I have to spell it out for you? gosh, kids these days
Diego - and I'm the dumb, sweet one
Simona - you're in for one hell of a ride
Karina - you don't own me
Paul - that was brutal
El - fight Lupita with Lupita
Carmen - after everything I never did for you, you leave me like this
Brigitte - you're out of moves cowgirl
Hot Rod - one more for the road
Vivi, thanks for this well done recap of a stagnant episode. Your handling of the events surpassed the writers' weak efforts.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Rod will get some STD from his new job.
I am wondering how they will get rid of Simona since she displays every sign of being a wholesome, well adjusted woman. I am still thinking that there must be some sinister side to her that will shock Diego.
Lupita is an impish delight, and the sole force of interest at this point.
Today is out granddaughters' fourth birthday. At about the 6th month, our daughter went into premature labor and was put on bed rest like Karina. The girls were delivered by emergency C-section 5 weeks premature. So I sympathize with Karina in her angst at being relegated to her bed, and I'm glad to see that she has back up in the form of Alonso's secretary and the orderly.
David
Tofie- "fight Lupita with Lupita" Good one. :) This little girl is just too quick for the adults around her.
ReplyDeleteDavid- Happy birthday to your granddaughters! I know they are adorable. Are they still enjoying school? I too think its good for Karina to have a more extended support network while she's on bed rest. Al certainly was not enough.
Congratulations David.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will all enjoy the birthday celebrations. Happiness to all of you on this special day.
Diana
Yes, Happy Birthday to those twin sparklers. Even without the challenge of twins, my mom was on enforced bed rest for pretty much 9 months with both me and my older sister (a history of miscarriages which probably wasn't helped by her smoking habit.)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to know that all turned out well for your daughter and your granddaughters. Reason to celebrate indeed.
Thanks Vivi. Always enjoy reading your recaps and comments.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Lupita has anything against the baby daddies per se, she just doesn't want them with her mama.
Now the writers are doing a character assassination on Nat. I really didn't like her last night and was glad that Diego didn't go back to her. I am worried about Simona. She really doesn't deserve to be dumped.
Al is continuing his inappropriate behaviour with Irene. Her husband just died and he's making moves on her. Irene shot him down. Good on her.
Nanette
I for one didn't see any inconsistency in Nat's behavior. She has always believed the world revolves around her. The difference now is people are beginning to say no.
ReplyDeleteAlonso is not dissimilar, people (Irene & Karina) are not going along with what he wants, when he wants and the terms.
I never had that impression of Nat before, that she thinks she's the center of the universe. It's a new thing to me, or I wouldn't be so surprised/appalled by it. Though, it has been creeping in slowly, I'd say since about the time Andres hit the jackpot and came back into town and she started using him as arm candy at her convenience. I was always baffled at Brigitte's accusations before that, since she was the one I always saw as feeling entitled. It looked less to me like Brigitte was right all along and we were all duped by Nat the way she always insisted EVERYONE was and more like Nat finally cracked from all the stress. Not that I think that excuses her behavior.
ReplyDeleteFor me it goes back to her insistence and attempts to placate or forgive Rod's behavior, even after she had been duped repeatedly. She knew how sensitive Diego was about what went down while he was sedated, yet she would get angry at Diego for not trusting her no matter her actions. She felt no responsibility to give him a heads up, sometimes actually lying and Diego got plenty of slaps to go along with his angst. Where Diego went wrong was trying to make sense of what was happening and foolishly walked into Rod's trap and shamefully called Nat a slut. What he should have done was just walk away (as he is doing now) and let her sort out what ever it was that kept her on that leash of Rods. Bottom line she does exactly what she wants to do and everyone else better like it or they cannot be around her.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching what went down tonight this is my prediction about tomorrows comments - I predict that tomorrow 8 of the 10 people who watch this novela will ream both Al and Nat new A$$ holes.
ReplyDelete
