TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): El Capo, La Querida del Centauro2, & más: Week of May 29, 2017

TELEMUNDO WEEKEND EDITION (continuación)

Here's Page 2 for the week.  The current telenovelas are as follows (all times are Eastern Daylight Time):

• 10:30AM-12PM—Corazón Valiente
• 12-2PM—Gonul
• 8-9PM—El Capo
• 9-11PM—La Querida del Centauro2  (repeats 12-2AM)

Guerra de Ídoles has been relegated to Saturday nights, 9-11PM. Even so, folks may certainly discuss the novela here if they wish.

Telemundo has announced that the new season of El Señor de los Cielos will debut on Tuesday, June 20, in the 10 pm (EDT) time slot.

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!

Good Morning Juanita :)

Good afternoon, Steve :-)

I'm not going to be able to contribute much to the discussion here for a while. I'm in the process of selling my house and making a long-distance move. Knowing this, I deliberately decided not to get involved in watching any telenovelas after La Doña, since I would often be unable to watch. I was heartened by some of the news Vivi posted a few weeks ago about novelas being planned. I'm eager to be settled and able to watch. Fortunately for me, my hiatus from watching has come at a time when I'm not tempted by the current offerings. I just hope I won't have forgotten all my Spanish in the interim. :-(

I do hope people will continue to post about what they're watching, what they wish they were watching, news of what's coming down the pike, etc. etc. As LXV mentioned earlier, we want to continue to have this space for Telemundo novelas, so it would be helpful to have some postings. Hint hint :-)

Hey all! I don't usually post here, as I don't follow Telemundo too often, but I possibly read on here that they are making a LRDS 2! Ugh!

Hola Alfredo,

Bienvenido a Telemundo. I had a very different response when I heard about the possibility of La Reina del Sur2. I think LRDS is the best telenovela I have ever seen. Ever. For that reason, I'm excited about the possibility of LRDS2, especially if the cast is as well chosen as in the first one. I doubt that LRDS2 will be as good as #1, but if it's even half as good, I'll be happy. Of course, Telemundo seems to have a tendency to take a winner and drag it out ad nauseum for several more seasons. El Señor de los Cielos comes to mind. Still, I definitely plan to give LRDS2 a look.

Haha! It's funny how that works but that is precisely what I am dreading, especially if the ending was an ending like LRDS. Now it seems even Televisa may do seasons too but they forget that American TV seasons are only 30 episodes (max) and tn seasons are 70 (minimum). This is not a good thread I say. One of the reasons I love tns its it's open and shut story but that seems to be changing.

Juanita, I just noticed that LRDS is on Netflix. Why is it your all time favorite? What is special about it? Btw, good luck on your move. May it be as easy as possible.

Alfredo, I, too, also like the open and shut telenovela productions. That to me is a very strong selling point. There is always an end. As soon as you start with "seasons" you run the risk of never having a plot resolution and being left just hanging.

If you haven't seen, Jarifa, do!

For me, it was a strong story, superbly acted and with a good, strong ending. It is an amazing story about first loves but also recognizes that it's not always the only love. It is also an amazing story about friendships, between women, men, men and women and how deep those roots go. It is an amazing story of perservance and the strength of the human spirit but also about redemption and the honest mistakes people make that still have dangerous and long-lasting consequences. It doesn't betray the characters it creates but it is also heartbreakingly honest in it's approach. It is a narco novela but it not about the guns or violence or power plays but about how you can achieve some, ultimately, beautiful and hopeful from all the carnage your past has brought.

I suggest it to all novela lovers but also to lovers of a wonderfully told story.

Thanks for the info, Alfredo. Since it looks to be available over an extended period of time, I may take a look.

"Sin senos sí hay paraíso" has been filming the first scenes on the beaches of Miami, Roberto Manrique will be paired up with Carmen Villalobos.

Jarifa, I'm not sure, but I think Alfredo was responding to your question about what made LRDS so great. I really liked and agree with his response. In addition, I thought LRDS was superbly acted, not just in the main roles, but throughout the cast. And perhaps because it was based on a novel by a fine Spanish novelist, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, who had a hand in transforming the novel into the telenovela, I found it more interesting than most telenovelas. It depended less on stereotypic characters and stock situations, though it certainly had some. I think it felt more like a fine film you'd see at a movie theater, but much longer. And though it was longer than a film, it was quite short for a telenovela--I think it ran for three months. There was no padding, no stretching it out to fill 120 episodes, and no silly subplots for so-called comic relief. I found it fascinating, powerful, compelling.

Also, thanks very much for your good wishes about the move! It's proving to be more of an adventure than I'd anticipated. :-)

Awesome. Waiting for "SIN SENOS" to come back.

Thank you, Juanita. After that recommendation, I will surely give it a look.

Though I didn't watch La reina del sur, what I remember most about it is that one of the French professors in my department, who also occasionally taught lower-level Spanish classes, was totally hooked! He is ordinarily a low-key, easy-going sort, but while LRDS was on he'd give a run-down of capitulos to anyone who would listen and rave about the wonderfulness of both the tn and Kate del Castillo. I may have a look at it as well.

Juanita, Alfredo, SpanProf, I just watched first 4 episodes of LRDS and enjoyed it much more than I would have ever thought. The first and last ( of what I would call a) narco series I saw was "The Bridge" (2013-2014) on FX. I liked that one a lot in spite of the over the top violence. That is how I feel about LRDS one so far. It was so appropriate to make the theme song a corrido.
This is the first time I have seen Kate del Castillo in anything and I am impressed.

Oh Jarifa! First time you've seen Kate? You are in for a treat. When I was younger, I always loved her but could never understands why. As I grew older and rewatched some of her older novelas like Ramona, La Mentira and Bajo la Misma Piel, I realized that she is a "natural actress." She's feels the character, becomes the character but also acts and reacts like a human being. Nothing in her performances ever feel stifled. She just is. Another actress who I feel the same for is Silvia Navarro. It's it's natural essence a person has that can't be fabricated.

I'm glad you're enjoying LRDS thus far though, fun (for lack of a better word) times ahead ;)

She was also the mother in the movie Bajo el mismo sol, and superb in that role too.

That is right. I had forgptten about that movie

Alfredo, I'm so glad you mentioned Silvia Navarro. She's terrific!

I agree Juanita! I saw her barely in MEPS but droppes it because it didnt comparento Pura Sangre and didnt see her again till Amor Bravio. I fell in love since

La Reinda del Sur (Telemundo's novela)

I read the book first, which was kind of a mistake, because it made me dislike the novela which wasn't "true" to the book.

But when Telemundo reran it, I did watch. Yes, it's different than the novel but not worse. The performances are almost universally superb, especially Kate del Castillo.

Well worth watching.

Speaking of Kate Del Castillo: Isn't she currently on a Netflix TV Show portraying the First Lady of Mexico ?

Yes, Steve, she is in "Ingobernable".
