Welcome to Page 1 (Monday edition) of the Telemundo y Más page, issued twice a week: Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00 PM.
Here are the current telenovelas (all times are Eastern Standard Time):
10-11PM - Lobo, Morir Matando**
**There is conflicting information for Tuesday, February 24. The Zap2It replacement says that Lobo, Morir Matando will be shown at 10PM as usual. However, Telemundo's Program Guide indicates that Lobo will be pre-empted by the State of the Union address. My guess is that Telemundo's listing is correct. But that's just a guess.
Some long time dizi fans are recapping or commenting here (on the Telemundo pages) about the Turkish dizi Poder y Traición, which Telemundo has chosen to air at 12:30 AM. It’s dubbed in Spanish. We are watching it on our streaming devices and from the beginning to catch up to Telemundo’s current broadcast schedule. The Turkish title translated to English is Golden Boy.
Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Since discussions of all
the novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the
telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can
easily find the conversations they're looking for.
By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any
other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the
current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes
reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel.
Thanks for your cooperation!

Episode 6
“Warm Welcome”
At the Istanbul yali there is lots of bustling to get ready for the arrival of Seyra. Latif has Ferit’s room modified to make space for Seyran. Later, he also tells Sultan that she will no longer look after Ferit, this will be Dicle’s job now. Sultan is very unhappy and protests this, but Latif insists.
In Istanbul, Seyran is enchanted with all the water and the beautiful city. She admits to Ferit she has never been there. He teases her about being nervous. Abidin tells him Ferit should also be nervous because Halis is waiting and watching. We can see him on the balcony.
Ferit is upset that his trophies, etc., were moved to make room for his wife. Latif tells him this was Halis’ order. Seyran is upset that there is only one bed, since this isn’t supposed to be a real marriage. Ferit takes off his clothes to change for dinner, really upsetting Seyran. He finds this funny and parades around undressed just to annoy her.
In the dining room, she meets Halis, who tells her to look up and never lower her gaze again, she is now a Korhan. He talks about loneliness being the biggest test in life. Once the umbilical cord is cut until burial, having someone to share with helps with the loneliness. That is why the family gathers for meals, to be part of a group and not solitary. Later she meets with Halis alone, and he tells her he will help her and Ferit become a family. He says his boy was adrift, doing things without thinking. They have scolded him many times. This is what she can do: She needs to tolerate her husband, be patient. Love and respect will make the man. Most important, he tells her, your room is your home. Some days will be joyful, some somber, but what happens at home stays at home.
Back in their room, Ferit keeps teasing her. He tells her if she wears some sleepwear she has (looks like a teddy), he won’t be responsible, so she quickly tosses that aside.
We see Yusuf with his friends in Antep. He is moaning about Seyran’s marriage, and his friends are commiserating and trying to snap him out of it. He blames himself because she wanted to run away, but he wouldn’t. Now it’s too late. One friend says the rich man bought her like produce. That’s how they think, they can throw money at anything. Yusuf agrees. He vows not to stand still. “I won’t let them keep her.” His friends tell him it’s over, but he won’t hear of it.
In the morning (after sleeping on the uncomfortable chair), Seyran tries to find a charger for her phone. She ends up waking Ferit (in the comfy bed) when she tries to use his charger. He reacts angrily, saying she is like all wives, checking his phone already. This really annoys Seyran who has no interest in him.
Then he picks a dress for her to wear to breakfast. She pointedly chooses to wear a different dress. She also doesn’t eat breakfast. This surprises Halis but he thinks she will adjust in time.
In Antep, the matchmaker Ms. Sahide knocks on the door but brings no one with her, to Suna’s despair. She meets with Esme and Hattuc and tells them she knows Suna is pure, but the rumors are already flying because the younger married before the older. They need to find someone fast. Esme is sure Kazim will be angry at this. Suna hears all this and now feels even worse than she did before.

Episode 5 #1
“Crossing the Threshold” – “Cruzando el umbral”
Renata has a fever. Lobo is at a loss of what to do and wants to take her to a hospital. Fercho says they can’t go out because everyone is looking for her.
Dante reminds Antonia that he saw Lobo kill the nanny. Antonia asks him several perceptive questions such as why he didn’t stop the murder if he was there. Dante stumbles around with answers that wouldn’t convince me. She appears to be losing confidence. Dante asks her if she no longer trusts him. He wants to know why she is defending a murderer, a psychopath. She is still not impressed. He starts to wonder and asks if she has seen Lobo again. She needs to tell him if she does. She tells him she can take care of herself.
Cruz tells Antonia to type up a report of Lobo and his accomplices. He tells Dante that Antonia is no danger to the case. Cruz to Dante: Smart or stupid? Keep away from the case. If you keep failing, I’ll sideline you, too. I have people to take charge and keep her in line.
Grandma Guillermina tells her caretakers a story about a wild animal with claws in the forest. When they take her to the game room, she calls it a factory (taller). [Speaking of the grandma, when we first saw her, she was very lucid. Then a few episodes later, she looked like she might have memory loss. I wonder if she might be pretending some of this, for some reason.]
Cruz to Dante. Who helped Lobo escape? Find out who these people are. Get license plates. Dante wants to know what Cruz knows about Antonia. He tells him her father and he have history. He’s a criminal. Their story is drama, comedy, and very much a tragedy.
Fercho worries that Lobo doesn’t know little kids. They discuss Graciela, the sister, but Lobo says he met Graciela and never liked her.
Zufrero always likes a party. Now he has Cruzito at a fancy strip joint. He tells him to relax and enjoy himself. Cruzito thinks it’s not appropriate for a DA to be seen there. He tries to apologize for leaving the party early at Zufrero’s ranch. They keep talking and finally Zufrero tells him he will have a new partner, Graciela.
Graciela is kidnapped and brought to Zufrero’s place. Cocula gave her a choice to come with them “the good way or the bad way.”
Renate takes her medicine, but Lobo has to swallow some of the liquid first.
Dante tells his cyber guy to find out about Lobo’s friends, whether the search is legal or not.
At Zufrero’s, Graciela asks if he is in cahoots with Lobo. He says they got off on the wrong foot. He introduces himself as Placido Garcia Cabrero. She makes the connection to beautiful flowers sent for her sister and husband’s funeral from Grupo Cabrero. She seems more interested now. Zufrero tells her that the de la Colinas were good people, beloved. But they were in high-risk ventures like he is. She tells him not to criticize her sister or Gustavo. She wants to know when she can leave. Zuf tells her he wants to use her warehouses to assemble his goods in. She insults him and says she would never work with someone like him. He tells her to think about it and not to tell anyone about this conversation. He tells his people she’ll eventually agree, with the choice of “money or lead.”

Adela calls Jacinto, who has worked with her on child abuse cases. She wants to find Lobo. He eventually sends her to the food vendor in Chinatown who has worked with Lobo catching abusers. She pleads with him for some time and finally coaxes a phone number from the vendor.
At the hospital, Dante is threatening a doctor that he needs information from. He gives a story of his girlfriend whose grandfather has a heart condition. He needs him to treat him for free and he’ll turn a blind eye. He tells the doctor he can be intolerant. The girlfriend can’t know. Dante wants him to say that Dante is paying for treatment of his future father-in-law.
Adela and Antonio are at home. Antonia had a hard day. They think Renata is better off with Lobo than Graciela. Adela was trying to trace the supposed message from Miranda, but it’s not traceable. She tells Antonia there is no criminal record for Lobo.
Adela: He is not a murderer. You hate him because of your father, but he’s being framed.
They discuss that Dante says he saw Lobo kill the nanny, but Adela says it doesn’t add up. Why would a man who helps abused women kill a defenseless woman? Antonia says nothing Dante said makes sense and when she asked questions, he got upset. Adela tells her she has a number for Lobo.
Lobo wants to get going. They wasted valuable time with Renata’s fever. His friend tells him the longer you stay, the more risk for you and Renate. The phone rings. Lobo recognizes Antonia’s number that he had saved previously. They agree to meet. He picks the place.
Adela will visit Antonia’s father while Antonia meets Lobo. She’s ready to go and is surprised by Dante at her door. He makes a sort of implied threat [it seemed to me] telling Adela he met with her son. Dante tells Antonio he knows her father is in prison. Antonia turns down his offers to help or drive her. He tells her he has a special doctor friend who might help her father. He wants to take her to meet the doctor now. She says later. Dante’s eyes are as big as saucers that she said this. He is not a happy chappy.
Graciela meets with her lawyer who tells her she can’t do anything until they find the kid. She thought the company was in good shape. The company is in the red because Gustavo made recent large withdrawals. Lawyer says they need to be producing. He’s tried to get loans with no luck. [I can see where this is going….] They need a major capital injection or will have to shut down.
Santi has made a comic book of Renata with Lobo. She may have been scared by this and runs out the front door.
Someone tells Cruz they can’t locate Dante. He is the cyber guy who has the information Dante requested about Lobo’s helpers. Cruz calls Cocula with the address of Fercho and Santi. Meanwhile, Fercho & Santi are trying to catch up to Renata.

Lobo meets Antonia on the roof of a parking garage. She walks in with her gun drawn. He asks he if she plans to shoot him. He tells her that the las Colinas murders were settling a score. Gustavo was running guns. She tells him a witness says he killed the nanny. He said she was protecting Renata. He didn’t kill her. Your own people did this. Look into them. Dante was the first to shoot Berta. His lapdogs finished her off. Lobo was there.
Renata is walking alone, and people are beginning to bother her.
Zufrero and Graciela make a perfect pair. He will give her money, and she will be his partner, letting him use her warehouses. He is pleased: Genial! Then he tells her she must be the most beautiful partner he’s ever had, and he takes her to go have a drink, as he gets friendlier with his hands. A perfect match!
Dante is trying to stay in good graces with Cruz. Neither one seems to trust the other. Dante is now at the parking garage, closing in on Lobo and Antonia. Lobo warns her that Dante will hurt her. She asks about Renata. He tells her about how it’s going. “She was sick yesterday.” His frustration with his new role of guardian shows. She tells him he should give her the kid. He tells her he swore not to let her go and to take her to safety. He says he has made too many mistakes in his life, and his word is all he has left.
Renate is nearly hit by a car (was it driven by Cocula?), but Santi and Fercho rescue her. They head back to their place, which is probably not safe since the bad cops now know the address.
Antonia tells Lobo she can’t trust him because of what he did to her father. He tells her now that he knows more about the police department, he’s sure Cruz planted the evidence that convicted her father. She tells him her father was injured in jail the day before and is still locked up when he should be in a hospital. She also tells him her grandmother is not allowed to visit her son. Lobo says: Forgive me. You deserve a life as beautiful as you are. They look about to kiss, but Dante is watching….

ReplyDeleteBabachita: Good job on the recap of last night's episode. How many episodes is this Telenovela supposed to be having ?
Not shocked about Berta getting whacked. Safe to say the Body Count will be increasing non-stop!
Lobo
ReplyDeleteI have found Telemundo's own website to be 99% accurate as to their own schedule. Plus, they advertised at the end of yesterday's episode that they were ceding tonight's airspace to the State of the Union Address and indicated thatLobo - with those two cliffhangers - would return on Wednesday.

ReplyDeleteGreat summary, Babachita. Thanks. I see you are doing triple duty this week—KPA, Golden, and Lobo. It’s much appreciated.
Ferit has never had a challenge like Seyran. He won’t let up. I mentioned missing Kazim’s Turkish voice. We are missing Ferit’s, too, especially when he teases Seyran. Love the way he calls her “karıcığım”, my dear wife. It doesn’t work the same way dubbed into Spanish.
I’m happy they are keeping the original music so far. This is the song that played when cowardly Yusuf cried with his friends:
Song: Hasret Rüzgarları/Winds of Longing - Müslüm Gürses
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIxvQj3VfeE
There are English CCs.
My school is closed again today. I have to go outside now and continue digging myself out from the blizzard. I will have #7 up later today.

ReplyDeleteSteve, I don’t know how many episodes Lobo has. They have to get from Mexico City to the border (it looks like Baja California), so lots of time!

ReplyDeleteI have to admit the flirtation between Lobo and Antonia caught me off guard. I’m not feeling the chemistry with this couple yet. I do sense chemistry with Zufrero and Graciela! Combustible even!!! Must be Big Al! He’s always such fun to watch!!!
It’s fun watching Lobo slowly figure out how to interact with Renata! He figured out the trick with her medicine, so he’s coming along.
Really really dislike Dante!

ReplyDeleteExcellent recap, Babachita. I'm right there with you about Dante. The actor has been awful from the very first episode, the one where he confided to another cop that he'd get Antonia in bed soon because she would be working under him and vulnerable.
Interesting idea that Guillermina might be faking dementia, but she does seem to be in some sort of facility and not in her own home. The disease can come and go at times. And, if she lived in her own home, Antonia would likely live with her and not Adela.
We finally got an idea of why Lobo doesn't want Graciela to have custody of Renata. I thought it might be more concrete, but he used the common expression mal espina, one that has always fascinated me. I guess Spanish speakers, or at least Latin American ones, seem to think bad vibes come from one's spine.
Ay, that huge floral display was from El Azufrero, after arranging their murders. I went back to my Reverso and found azufre means sulfur, but also brimstone. If Spanish speakers use brimstone as part of hell, then his apodo kind of makes sense.
I'm interested in the bad guys being involved in arms, not drugs. Are they trying to change up from narconovelas?
Thanks for clearing up Dante's visit to the doctor. I didn't quite grasp that he was planning on taking credit for paying the doctor but muscling him into treating Eugenio for free.
Dante is barely keeping his lust and rage under control around Antonia. I felt like screaming when he showed up just when she was about to leave to meet Lobo. Not to mention showing up unannounced at a subordinate's home is beyond outrageous. I'm guessing Dante didn't see Lobo on the rooftop. Could be wrong, but I think it's too soon for Dante to know Antonia is getting Lobo's side of the story. I never watch the previews, so this is pure speculation.
I wonder if the large withdrawals Gustavo made are what ended up being Renata's "treasure" at the border.
I am SO glad Lobo told Antonia about Dante killing Berta. She didn't 100% believe it, but she's seeing more and more what a slimy guy Dante is.
I don't think the truck could have been an attempt on Renata's life. They want her alive to find the treasure.

ReplyDelete#7 part 1
A couple of rewinds: Korhan family breakfast. Seyran tells Grandpa she doesn’t eat breakfast. Matchmaker Zahide comes with bad news for Suna. People are gossiping about her. She must be married asap, even if it’s to someone ugly or divorced.
Korhan breakfast is finished. The family assembles in the living room. Latif brings in gift boxes.
Halis starts with a ring box. He opens it and says, my grandmother raised us. When we misbehaved and made her angry, she’d say, “Oh, you naughty little rascals”. When she’d try to hit us, her delicate knuckles would bleed. She always wore this ring. We’d feel it when she caressed us, but we felt it even more when she disciplined us. Seyran is touched by this story.
Halis continues, that’s what makes this ring so special. It can evoke joy and sorrow the same way life does. Give me your finger. Seyran gets up and approaches Halis. He puts the ring on her finger—I entrust it to you. Welcome to our family and our home. She kisses his hand and says, thank you very much. Halis says, I’ll go now. Ifakat, Gulgun, take care of our daughter, Seyran. Have her learn our manners and customs. Seyran tries to hold back her emotions.
Ifakat presents Seyran with matching set, an elaborate diamond necklace, earrings and ring. I hope you use it in good health. It’s beautiful, Seyran replies, thank you very much.
Orhan is next, it’s a remote to a car. Ferit tells his father, I’d like one, too. Orhan waves him off. Seyran is surprised. She says she doesn’t have a driver’s license. Orhan replies, you will, don’t worry. Seyran answers, inshallah, thank you.
Fuat leans over to Asuman, you see, there are some men who want to take their wife’s possessions. You should appreciate me. Asuman smiles. They get up to give their gift. Welcome to our family, Asuman says, we wish you a lifetime of happiness. Diamond necklace, emerald earrings, emerald ring. Seyran thanks them. Asuman gives her a hug and quietly says, don’t be shy, think of this as standard procedure. You’re a Korhan now, get used to it.
Gulgun is next. It’s a pin. She explains it’s a family heirloom. There are two, Asuman has one and this one is entrusted to you. Seyran thanks her.
Seyran notes, these are all valuable items. But your warmth is what I value the most. Thank you very much. Ferit speaks up, keep them safe, like the apple of your eye. If anything happens, you’ll be upset. Of course, I’ll be careful, she replies. Gulgun is displeased with Ferit. Don’t listen to him, Seyran, he’s joking. Your bank accounts and credit care will be activated soon.
Ferit packs a bag for the gym. Seyran enters the room. He says, ah, antep fıstığı, what do you say? About what, she replies. All those gifts, bank accounts… he says. I don’t know what you think of me, she replies, but the material aspect isn’t important to me at all.
Ferit teases, you were almost crying with happiness, I saw it. Maybe it was because, unlike you, everyone’s been kind to me, she snaps back. But you only show me your true face, he tells her. I’m going to the gym. I might see Pelin after. Will you be okay here without me? He leans over for a kiss. She moves away. What are you doing? Don’t even think about it! Go! He laughs and leaves.

Asuman crosses Ferit on the stairs. You’re leaving Seyran alone on the first day? Gotta go, he replies. Halis watches from his window as Ferit gets on the boat. He doesn’t look pleased.
Seyran is still trying to get her phone to charge. Asuman knocks on the door. Are you free? Seyran is happy to see her. I decided to come after I saw Ferit leave, Asuman says. Were you resting? No, come, Seyro says, I was going to look at the view. I don’t know what else to do. It’s difficult at first, Asuman tells her, I know from experience. A little. Seyran acknowledges. A new city, a new home.
Asuman interjects—a new family. I’m not just saying that. Of course there are problems, but under this roof, we’re a strong family. You’ll feel it too, and things will get easier. I hope so, Seyro replies, thank you very much. You’re very kind I was afraid to be alone. Asuman takes Seyro’s hand.
Latif comes to the room. Are you available, Seyran hanım? Yes, she replies, but if you’re looking for Ferit, he left. No, I’m looking for you, Latif says. Asuman asks, did something happen? No, Halis aga wants me to show his new DIL around the house. And then Ifakat wants to see her. Orders from the top, Asuman says. She tells Seyro to come see her later if she gets bored.
In the kitchen, Sefika is making a list, Carlos is practicing his Turkish, Dicle is taking selfies. Ibo rushes in with Firat. He wants to see his big sister.
Latif brings Seyran to meet the staff. Sefika welcomes her and Latif says Sefika is our chef. He continues, you met Dicle yesterday. She will handle your requests. Dicle doesn’t smile but she holds out her hand to shake. Latif says, you saw Carlos and Sultan yesterday. (Sultan isn’t there now), but don’t ask Carlos for anything yet. He’s French and his Turkish is not very good. Let Sefika know what you like and don’t like, Latif tells her, she will prepare your food accordingly. No need, Seyran says, I don’t choose my food. Latif introduces Ibo. He’s Dicle’s father Halis Aga’s driver.
Seyran looks at little Firat. He’s very sweet, mashallah. She asks Ibo, is he your son? She bends down to introduce herself to Firat. She asks, what’s your name? The boy gets shy and hugs his father’s leg.
Sultan enters the kitchen. She’s not pleased to see Seyran there. Latif introduces her. Sultan is Dicle and Firat’s mother. Seyran says, Firat is so sweet but a little shy. He wouldn’t tell me his name. He’s not shy, Sultan replies, he can’t speak. Awkward. Seyran says, özür dilerim (I apologize), I didn’t know. Latif warns Sultan to watch it. Sultan gives halfhearted congrats to Seyran and tells her that Ifakat was asking for her.
A woman interrupts Ferit’s workout with an obvious intent. I can’t find my phone, I dropped it somewhere, she says, can I dial it from yours? Ferit hands over his phone and says, you’re new here. I haven’t seen you before. Yes, she replies, I came with friends. She calls. She finds her phone right where she left it. She apologizes and introduces herself—Tuba. She knows who he is. After she walks away, Ferit rolls his eyes and deletes her number from his phone.
Latif brings Seyran to Ifakat’s door. Ifakat invites her to sit. How are you? I’m fine, Seyro answers. Are you really, Ifakat asks, are you getting used to things? Seyro admits It isn’t easy. Give yourself and Ferit some time, Ifakat says Everyone in this house must follow certain rules. It will be good if you learn this as soon as possible.

ReplyDelete#7 part 3
Seyran leaves the room and she replays what Ifakat told her as she walks through the yali. Halis Aga is everything to us. He holds the highest power. Never disrespect him. His word is always final. Unless someone is sick, we all eat our meals together. There is no shouting or yelling inside the house. And everything we live here is not taken outside the yali. You must inform us before leaving the yali. We don’t know who’s outside, taking photos, trying to create trouble. Our employees are valuable to us but keep boundaries. If you have a problem to solve, you can come to me. My door is always open. Don’t let me hear about it from others. Most importantly, your last name comes before your first name, Seyran Korhan. Don’t forget that and act accordingly.
Seyran exits the back doors and looks out over the water. She spots Ibo and Firat playing with a soccer ball and smiles.
Ferit exits the gym and finds Abidin sleeping in the car. Ferit gives him a little slap on the stomach. I wonder if you’re sorry we returned from Antep, he says. No, Abidin replies, I was even more tired in Antep. Abi asks if he’s going to Pelin.
No, Ferit says, let’s go to the phone store and then home. Phone store? I’m not telling you, Ferit says, you’ll make fun of me. But my intentions are pure. Ferit sends a cancellation text to Pelin. Abidin says he’d like to get another phone line. Ibo’s investing in bitcoin and wants to bring him in on it. But he doesn’t want to give out his phone number.
Ibo comes into the kitchen looking for a band aid. Firat fell and scratched his knee while they were playing. Sultan asks, where is he? He’s with our DIL, Seyran, Ibo replies, they are getting along very well. Sultan gets angry—what is she doing with my son?!
Seyran and Firat play—I’ll catch you, I’ll catch you, she says. She catches him and picks him up. Sultan comes outside. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, she tells Seyro, I’ll take him. It’s okay, Seyro replies, I’m fine. It’s not about you, Sultan says, it’s inappropriate. We are the ones who will get scolded. Seyran puts Firat down. She hadn’t thought about that.
Ferit arrives and sees this interaction. He comes down to the terrace. Sultan continues, there’s nothing to think about, gelin hanim, just stay away from my son and that’s enough. She takes the boy’s hand and turns to go. Ferit is standing there and he’s angry. He asks, what’s going on, Sultan? Uh, Firat fell, I was worried, Sultan replies.
Ferit asks, what did you say to her? Who do you think you’re talking to? Seyran says it was nothing… you misunderstood. Ferit tells Seyran not to interfere. He asks again, what did you tell her? Seyran is worried Firat will get frightened. She takes his hand. He gets up close to Sultan. He quietly makes it clear, Seyran is no different than the others in this house. You will treat her the same way you treat the others, understood? Sultan is shaken and apologizes to Seyran. Ferit tells Seyran—let’s go.
Ferit is still angry when they get to the room. Seyran tells him he overreacted and it wasn’t necessary. Ferit says what he did wasn’t enough. Seyran explains, she was trying to warn me in case anyone saw me and the child together, and she was right. I know very well why she’s acting like this, Ferit replies. [we know, too, but Seyran doesn’t.] Seyran asks why. Ferit doesn’t answer that, instead he says, she will talk to you the way she does to the other DILs in this house. The issue here is that you are my wife, that’s all.
Is this about your ego, Seyran asks, it’s a shame. Sometimes a person should consider the feelings of others. Ferit takes something out of his bag. He says, I’m sorry. You’re right. Now I wish I hadn’t bought you this phone so you can talk to your mother. Seyran is speechless. Did we see a little smile?

Halis arrives at a workshop area. The men are quick to show their respect for him as he walks by. We see a jeweler working at his bench and song is playing on his radio.
Song: Antebin Kalesinde/At the Antep Castle · Zekeriya Ünlü

You can find the Turkish lyrics if you google and then you can translate.
Halis speaks as he comes through Necip Usta’s door—according to the decree, those who are beautiful are also faithful. Necip replies, don’t be fooled by the words of poets, they lie. Welcome, usta. He gets up and kisses Halis’ hand. You came, is there a problem? Is there a day without problems, Halis replies. May it be for the best, Necip says. They sit.
Halis begins, we married my grandson, Ferit. He was on the wrong path, so I tied him up. Necip warns, you’ll choke him if you tie it too tight. That’s why I came to you, Halis says, I didn’t find where to tie the rope, the kid wanders.
Necip replies, I hope you’re not expecting a grown man to be an apprentice. Halis answers, no, teach a grown apprentice how to be a man. That’s enough for me. Check and see if he has the heart and soul for our work. Not to become an usta, but to understand what it is like. To understand the stones. And to understand what labor is.
Necip sighs, since you came this far, we will do our best. Don’t get me wrong, Halis answers, I didn’t come here to force, but to ask if it’s possible. If you say it’s a sin, I’ll accept it. Necip asks, is he worthy enough to walk through these doors? I will test him myself, Halis answers, and if he passes, I’ll send him. Then if you think he’s got what it takes, we’ll discuss it further.
Ferit is out of the shower and comes out with a towel around his waist. Seyran is using her new phone. I thought I was too harsh and you’d be too proud to accept the phone, he tells her. She avoids looking at him. I can’t be too proud, she replies, I need to call my mom, but I can’t get through. Ferit says he will call her father if she wants. But you will have to do me a favor when the time comes. She says it’s okay, she left a message for her sister. Okay then, he answers, tell her I said hello.
Seyran complains, do you have to be so nasty? And I was thinking of thanking you. Ferit puts a shirt on but still has a towel around himself. And now you won’t thank me, he asks. She responds, I saved your life. Do you remember? You can count that as a favor. Ferit notes, you did a blessing and now you are throwing it in my face? Unbelievable. He laughs and drops his towel.
She’s horrified. She turns away even though he’s wearing undies. What are you doing? This is exhibitionism! I call it “taking a shower” and I need to get dressed, he says, do you think I’m doing this to get a reaction from you? [yes.] I see why you might be confused. He asks, did you only shower in Antep when you went to the market? Why do you ask, Seyran replies. It’s been a few days, he says, and I haven’t seen you shower. She's stunned.
He walks back to the clothes rack. She sniffs her hair. He sees her and laughs. This marriage might not be real, he says, but you should keep yourself clean. He calls out—tut! And he kicks his slipper off his foot in her direction. She throws it back at him and shouts—gerizekalı! (idiot)

Halis doesn’t seem as eager as they are. I see you’ve done the proper accounting, but sometimes unnecessary financial gain takes away from moral values. We’ve never intended on becoming a franchise. But if you think it will add value to our brand and name, then why not? We’ll look into it. He gets up from the table, and everyone rises. He asks Ferit to come see him after the evening prayer.
The atmosphere is tense at the Sanli konak. Kazim is drinking. He throws some food at Esme. He says to tell Suna to make him coffee and bring it to the living room. Hattuc tells him that painful words should always be held until the end of the meal. I have to tell you something. Zahide came to see me, but she didn’t have good news. People at the market are spreading rumors about us. They are talking about our girl. Suna. They are discussing her virtue.
Kazim jumps to his feet and shouts—who is saying that? Who was it?! The girl was just clumsy. We all saw it! Hattuc says, the truth was mixed up with lies. A well-talked lie becomes the truth. I was ashamed when she told me.
Esme has the coffee ready and tells Suna to take it to Kazim. I don’t think I should, Suna says. Please take it, Esme replies, your father wants you to. Suna takes the coffee. She hands the cup to her father. He slaps it out of her hand. He shouts at her—why couldn’t you bring the coffee that day!! Why!? Our honor has been stained thanks to you! He slaps Suna and she falls to the floor.
We don’t see the rest, but we can hear it. Hattuc tries to stop him, and he shouts at her not to interfere. He continues to yell and to beat Suna. Who will choose you after this?! Dishonorable! Shameless! I’ll kill you! Esme cries outside on the stairs.
Halis is working on some jewelry when Ferit comes to see him. Halis holds up a necklace. What do you think? It’s wonderful, Ferit replies. Halis says it’s a very special design. It’s Necip usta’s work, a masterpiece. But the essence of the design is in the thought. We do not immediately sit at the table and take out the tools. First, we sketch out the jewel’s design. Then you grab the tools and start the job.
Halis gives Ferit a piece of jewelry and some pencils and a sketch. He says, go to your room and study this piece. Let’s see what comes out. Ferit doesn’t understand. I want you to draw the same exact design on paper. Ferit says he’s never done anything like that before. Halis tells him to try it. You have until morning. Let’s see if you’re just as good at making things with your hands as you are at flirting with women.

ReplyDelete#7 part 6
Okay, Ferit says, but why? And what if I can’t? Halis points, this way if you can, and this way if you can’t. I’m responsible for both paths. Hadi. It’s not so easy to bear the name of Korhan. Ferit replies, you’re right, Grandpa. Good night. Ferit leaves and Halis laughs, let’s see if he can make something of himself.
Ferit is trying to draw. He’s doing a lot of erasing. Seyran is on the sofa looking at her phone. She looks at him and laughs. Are you really going to start drawing? He shows her the drawing Halis gave him and says, he wants me to draw something like this before morning. Until morning? Ferit says that’s how it works in our family, you suddenly get married, get fired, and then Ferit Efendi has to sketch on a deadline.
Seyran offers, if you want me to help, all you have to do is beg. Ahhh, çok komik, Ferit mocks. Now I’ll enjoy seeing you suffer, she replies. He asks, do you want to see how I experience other emotions? Don’t talk so much, she says, otherwise you won’t finish by morning. I’ll complain to Grandpa. Ferit answers, anyway… all the nights are ours. She laughs. He notes, you’re slowly starting to warm up to me. We’re not in a hurry. Right now, I only feel sorry for you, she says. Good night. Ferit keeps trying.
Next morning, Ferit hands his sketch to Halis. What will he say?
And we are out.

ReplyDeleteI'll post #8 tomorrow. I almost have it ready to go.

ReplyDeleteDondi, you add so much to the story! I really appreciate this in depth recap. I need to go back and write down all the characters and their familial relationships! The yali staff, especially. Ferit and Firat...hmmm, any chance the boy is actually Ferit's son as we all have figured Sultan and he had an affair at some point. I wonder if it is common for an older woman to initiate a teenager in sex.
Kazim is a brute. Seyran is lucky she is no longer under his roof. I feel bad for Suna.

ReplyDeleteKat, if this helps, I posted a character list on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at 9:21:44 PM EST
Ferit and Firat... it does seem possible.
golden
ReplyDeleteDondi, I can do a longer one either Thurs-Fri #9 or Fri-Sat #10. Just let me know. Yours are the best, but if you need me, I’ll help.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer Babachita. If you don't mind, I have more time on the weekends to recap, so if you can do #9, I'd appreciate it. It doesn't have to be long.

ReplyDelete#8 part 1
Halis studies Ferit’s drawing. We’ll have to wait for the verdict.
Breakfast time. Halis has news, especially for Ferit Efendi. Ferit almost chokes on his food. Halis begins, I stopped by our workshop yesterday and spoke to the kolsuz usta (armless master). Ferit will start working as his apprentice today.
Ifakat says that’s a shame. Halis tells her, we are sending him to learn something. It’s our ancestors’ profession. We’ve all been through this. Let Ferit try. Halis asks Ferit, do you have any objections? No, dede, Ferit replies, estağfurullah, let it be as you say.
Halis explains, Necip Usta is a bit grumpy and difficult. If you behave as you did before, then you will get what you deserve. Ferit promises to be careful. Get ready and be on time, Halis warns. Today it will be like this. Tomorrow Latif will wake you early in the morning. You’ll have to get to work before the usta, and leave after, okay? Halis leaves the table.
Gulgun is all smiles and she taps Ferit. Ferit looks at Seyran, she’s smirking. He swats her with his napkin, what’s so funny?
Seyran is on the balcony, taking in the sea air. She checks her phone. Ferit enters the room and sees her. He walks over and pretends to be very upset. She’s alarmed. Ferit, what happened? What’s wrong? He smiles at her. I just wanted to let you know I’m leaving. She’s ticked—and what should I do about it…get out!
You’re a wild one, Ferit complains. Last night you slept bent over on that chair. I wanted to tell you if you want to lie down and rest, you can take the bed now. Thank you, thank you very much, she mocks, you are very caring! He leaves. Seyran sighs… he scared me…gerizekalı… Seyran walks over to the bed. She tests it with her hands and sits at the end. Feels nice. She bounces and then she flops back. Ahhhhh…
Abidin drives Ferit to the workshop. Ferit doesn’t look to enthusiastic. He says he’s only doing this to win his grandfather’s heart. Abi knows and adds that Ferit must also win the heart of the armless master. Abi laughs and Ferit asks why. There are tattoo artists, saddlers, and gemstone dealers in this area but all of them fear the armless master. He is the ultimate master.
I’ve been scolded so much, Ferit replies, I’m not afraid. It’s not like he’s going to hit me. Don’t scare me, it won’t work. Abi leaves him at the door. Ferit asks, aren’t you going in? At least introduce me. I value my life, Abi smiles, kolay gelsin (may it come easy) hadi!
Ferit knocks and enters the workshop. Necip is working and doesn’t look up. Hello, Necip Usta? I’m here, Ferit Korhan. Necip tells Ferit to get the broom and sweep up the dust. Am I going to sweep, Ferit asks. Necip looks up, how old are you? What else can you do for me? Hadi! That’s not what I meant, Ferit replies, my grandfather brought me here to work… Necip interrupts—shut up and get to work!
Seyran finally gets through to Suna. I was so worried. How are you? How’s mom? Suna gives the phone to Esme. Esme tells Seyran they are fine, don’t worry about us. How is Istanbul? Are you getting used to it? We miss you. We see the bruises on Suna’s face.
Seyran comes downstairs and runs into Asuman and Fuat. He’s sorry that they didn’t get the chance to chat with her. Asuman says they can make plans for the four of them to go out to eat. Gulgun enters and asks if Asuman wants to go shopping. Asuman says she can’t. She has a doctor’s appointment. Maybe they can meet up later.
Seyran offers Asuman get well wishes. Gulgun offers to go with Asuman and Fuat, but they say it’s not necessary, and they leave for the appointment. Seyran hopes this is nothing serious. Gulgun explains that Asuman has a problem with her ovaries. She tells Seyran to get ready to go out.

ReplyDelete#8 part 2
Ferit tells Necip he’s finished cleaning. What’s next? Necip tells him to sweep outside the door and when he’s done come back and wait inside.
Gulgun takes Seyran shopping.
Song: Kimse Bilmez/No One Knows - Mehmet Güreli
YouTube with translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci6HrwHTsIU
Looks like Asuman and Fuat got bad news. They sit by the shore. A mother pushes her child in a stroller. Asuman cries.
Gulgun and Seyran have lunch. Gulgun asks, do you like it here? It’s a beautiful view, Seyran replies, it’s beautiful from the house, too. Gulgun says they are lucky in that regard. Seyran says, I don’t know how to thank you for your support. Thank you so much for everything. What did I do, Gulgun answers, we’re spending time together, we’re having fun. You’ve been kind since day one, Seyro says, not only you… Orhan Bey, Asuman, all of you. I thought it would be a lot harder, but it’s as if I lived there all my life. You’re very kind people. All those gifts, the clothes we just bought… don’t get me wrong, I really don’t care. For the first time in my life, I feel appreciated.
Both ladies are emotional. Gulgun says, one sees one’s reflection in others. I’m glad you married my son. I know it won’t be easy, but I’ll always support you. Asuman calls Gulgun with the bad news. She won’t be able to have children.
Everyone is subdued at the dinner table. Halis says he understands why Ferit might be tired and quiet after his first day at work. But what about the rest? What’s happened? Asuman speaks up, it’s because of me. We didn’t want to spoil the mood at dinner. We wanted to come to you after. We had a doctor’s appointment today and it didn’t go well. I will have surgery to remove my ovaries.
Halis says, all that matters is that you’re alive and healthy. The rest is unimportant. Geçmiş olsun, daughter.
Hattuc is in an uproar. I can’t believe this! I was born in this konak, and I will die in this konak! You can go, but I’m not going to move to Istanbul! You can go and come back, Kazim says. Hattuc notes that Kazim has wanted to go there for a long time and now here is the perfect excuse.
I made my decision, Kazim says, the girl was disgraced, they are talking behind my back. It’s not forever, let’s go, see the house, see Seyran… Orhan will be no help to us but maybe Suna will find her fortune there. I invested a lot of money in Seyran and Suna. I won’t let my hard work go to waste. I don’t like this, Hattuc says, did you tell the Korhans? I’m telling you first, he replies, get ready. We are going to Istanbul. Istanbul!
Ferit is lounging on the bed, looking at his phone. He asks Seyran if something is wrong. She calls him insensitive. Your brother and SIL are having the worst day of their lives. Ferit mocks, wow, you don’t say. Thank you, I didn’t understand. He claps. That’s exactly what it looks like from here, she replies. He says, look antep fıstığı, maybe you’re a drama queen. Maybe you feed on other people’s pain. But give thanks that Asuman will be saved and won’t die.
Seyran tells Ferit she’s going to shower. She warns, don’t you dare come in while I’m inside. I’m not going to put up with your perversions tonight. There’s a lock on the door, use it, he replies, I’m not going to break down the door for you.
We see Yusuf and he’s planning something… he takes out his phone…

ReplyDelete#8 part 3
Seyran is done with her shower. She checks her phone, there’s a message from Yusuf.: I don’t understand why you did this to us. But what about your sister and what they are doing to her? Is your conscience clear now that you went? Everyone in Antep is talking about your sister. What your father did to Suna has become known on the street. Was it worth it, Seyran? Couldn't you hold the Korhans accountable? Is everything really that easy?
Seyran makes a panicked call to Suna. Unavailable. Ferit sees her and asks, are you trying to call your sister again? Why do you care, she answers, go to sleep! She grabs a pillow from the bed. What’s happening, he asks, are you two still fighting over me? You’re pathetic, she fires back. Ferit says it was just a bad joke. So ugly, she grumbles, you ruined my life, and now you’re talking. Ah poor Seyran, he mocks, suddenly rich, drowning in jewels, shopping with the family. What a shame! Her life is ruined.
Ferit gets up from the bed. He tells her, “Benim hayatim mahvoldum” my life is ruined. My life has been turned upside down. I don’t even have my own room anymore. Seyran springs from the sofa—it’s not the same thing! He tells her not to shout. People will hear and it’s ugly.
And what about that, Seyran asks, it’d be humiliating if someone heard? Really? Didn’t you humiliate us when you didn’t choose my sister? She gets off the sofa and approaches Ferit. What you did to my sister’s dreams wasn’t humiliating? The tears of my mother? She shouts—it wasn’t humiliating when my father beat me because I refused?
Ferit is speechless. Seyran kicks it into high gear. Allha belanı versin senin be, may God punish you! She pushes him and continues to shout this over and over. I hate you! I hate you! Then he grabs her and plants a kiss on her!
Seyran pushes him away. She’s in shock for a few seconds. Seyran… I’m sorry… he barely gets that out before she slaps him. She wipes her mouth. She shouts—what are you doing?! Get out! He starts apologizing. Get out! She pushes him. Get out! Defol! Defol! She pushes him towards the door. He escapes just as she throws a glass pitcher at him. It hits the door and shatters all over.
Ferit heads outside. Sultan is there drinking coffee in the gazebo. Would you like some coffee, Küçük Bey? Thanks, but coffee won’t help me now, he replies. She asks, how’s married life? He sighs, how could it be? It’s difficult.
I see, she says, you could have had any woman, but now you can’t be a good husband? I don’t want to fail this time, he says. She asks, is that why you humiliated me in front of her? He tells her that she was wrong, she was out of line. She reaches out and touches his face. Don’t do it, he tells her. Don’t do what, Ferit? I can’t stop loving you. He turns and leaves.
Ferit sneaks into the bedroom. Seyran is sleeping in the bed. He looks at her and smiles. Then he goes to sleep on the sofa.
Next morning, Ferit is up and dressed and Seyran is still sleeping. He tries to make some noise to wake her up. Finally, he tosses his phone over to her side of the bed and reaches over her to get it. She wakes up—what are you doing? I’m sorry, he says, my phone was under the pillow. How dare you talk to me, she replies, I thought I kicked you out. He answers, where am I supposed to sleep? I’m going to work now. You can sleep in peace. Go then, she says, I don’t want to see your face. He tries to sit on the bed to talk. She shouts at him to go. Okay, he says, see you later, karıcığım.
Seyran reads the text from Yusuf again. Not sure if she just deleted the message or if she blocked. She calls Suna. Unavailable. Later, Suna calls her with the good news that they are coming to Istanbul. We will be there in two days. Seyran is thrilled.

ReplyDelete#8 part 4
Seyran brings up Yusuf’s message. He asked if I was happy that I ruined his life and yours. What happened? Did something happen? Suna replies, don’t you know when the youngest gets married before the oldest, they start talking nonsense? It’s nothing terrible, don’t worry. Suna tells her she’s got a lot to do and quickly gets off the phone.
Hattuc is still complaining about going to Istanbul. She makes excuses, and Kazim has an answer for each. They are going and he’s going to call the Korhans and let them know they’re coming.
Seyran gets another lesson on what it is to be a Korhan. Her shopping trip with Gulgun has made the tabloids. “The new Korhan DIL left her MIL in the shadows with her beauty”. No jealousy on Gulgun’s part but Ifakat stirs the pot. Seyran, don’t leave your MIL in the shadows…
Kazim calls Orhan.
Breakfast. Ifakat says, let them come. Seyran is our daughter and her family is our family…but it is a bit early? Orhan says they are coming to see the home [the home that they got with the wedding.] Or checking ours out, Fuat interjects.
Orhan tells Halis that Kazim wants to see him. He kept asking while we were in Antep. Halis is okay with it. He cites, we couldn’t go to Antep as a family, we couldn’t discuss anything, we didn’t have a proper meeting. It’s not too early… let them come. Gulgun advises Seyran to visit with her family inside as much as possible. The more you go out, the more stories the tabloids make up.
Suna is super excited about the trip. They clear out the pantry to give the food to the poor. They enjoy some of the chocolate. They note that the poor will get to eat the things they can’t eat at home. Hattuc comes and asks Suna, do you know where to bring this? Yes. Esme asks Suna to pick up something at the pharmacy for her stomach. Hattuc asks her to get something for motion sickness. Suna notes that they are taking a plane. Hattuc scolds. Nothing can dampen Suna’s excitement.
Ferit is cleaning up in the workshop. Necip asks him to come with him and don’t forget to lock the door. Necip introduces Ferit to a boy. This is Ali Usta. No one makes tea better than him. The boy thanks Necip.
Mashallah, Ferit says. Necip continues, if you work here, you need to understand everything from every corner. He (Ali) will be your teacher today. He’ll show you around. Look at how many masters it takes to work on a single jewel. Okay, Ferit says, but what will I do? Necip tells him, you will hand out tea. Eat lunch then come back to the workshop. Ali Usta, I entrust him to you.
Ali gives Ferit a tea tray. Hadi bakalim! Ferit asks, who do I take this to? Ali replies, whoever.
Suna and Yusuf spot each other while she’s running her errands. He texts her to meet him. She immediately attacks him. I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! He asks her to calm down. Calm down? I don’t want you texting me or my sister ever again! Yusuf explains, I had a lot to drink. I don’t remember much. I sent an apology, but I was blocked. Suna demands to know what Yusuf said about her. You know, he says, people talk.
You didn’t have the guts to run away with Seyran, Suna says, so don’t call and ask about her. Where would we have gone, Yusuf asks. If you were a man, you’d find a way, Suna replies. They would have found us sooner or later, he says, I had a plan. She should have said no. If we were married this wouldn’t be happening.
You couldn’t even take her hand in public, Suna shouts. What kind of marriage? Her life is destroyed! She’s in hell! You don’t think I am, too, Yusuf answers. He took Seyran away because he’s rich. So you got drunk and texted her. How brave, Suna says as she walks. Don’t ever talk to us again!
And we are out.

ReplyDeleteWell, I've had quite a week getting ready to host my good-sized book club in my 1,045 sq ft house tomorrow night. During part of my cleaning efforts, I managed to knock loose the plug that controls everything in my pine entertainment center, the one that will have its doors closed when my friends are here. I wouldn't want them to think I ever stoop to watching television.
I had planned to watch Lobo and put up a quickie tonight, but the juice for the dish and TV were disconnected for hours. I was at my really tough Pilates class from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. When I finally made time to watch it at 11PM, there wasn't anything there. The last thing it recorded was the PBS News Hour at 3PM.
I hope to catch up by the weekend. I did watch Epi #4 of Golden Boy last night. They so far are making Ferit out to be a waste of space. His mother is very nice.
I'll try to watch Lobo online to see Wednesday's episode.
"LOBO"
ReplyDeleteNovelera: I will be looking forward to your recap of Wednesday's episode. It appears that going from the early analysis, things are going to get a lot WORSE before we see some sort of happily ever after.
Golden
ReplyDeleteGulgun is so nice. I'm glad Seyran has her as an ally. Both sisters have an awful father and upbringing.
Fuat, Ferit, Fihat! Turkish names are so difficult to remember, especially when they are so similar.
Thanks again Dondi. Iove your recaps. Have you finished digging out yet. I have a friend in RI that got slammed with the snowstorm. Meanwhile the daffodils are blooming here in SC, though we did get down to 18 degrees Monday. This week I'm solo as my husband is in Colorado for his annual ski trip with our sons. Juggling babysitting, PT and letting the dogs out has been a challenge. Our old 14 year old golden has accidents at times when left for too long. My hope was to leave the mudroom/laundry room door open for them but that wasn't feasible at 18 degrees!
Lobo #6
ReplyDeleteSteve - I expect things will go from bad to worse until July, when Lejos returns.
Wednesday, Dante approaches Antonia and Lobo talking close together on a rooftop. Antonia walks towards Dante when he calls her. Lobo uses the distraction leave.
Cócula and Cripta go to Santi and Fercho's house. Cocula enters and threatens Fercho. Ferch throws boiling hot cocoa in Cócula's face and escapes. Ren and Santi have left out the back door. Cripta confronts Fercho outside but S throws a rock. Renata recognizes the eagle tattoo on Cripta's wrist. The bad guys are foiled again. F, S & Ren head to Santi's gallery to hide out. Lobo joins them and confesses that he almost kissed Antonia.
Cruz meets a tv news anchor in a strip club. Cruz bribes the anchor to give Cruz more publicity so he can run for president. (I believe the encounter was filmed.)
Dante has F and S's house searched and he wants Fercho's computer "cracked". He keeps pressing Antonia about her feelings towards Lobo. He tries to chat her up in the office cafeteria.
Lobo wants to prove to Antonia that he has the informal custody of Renata in good faith. So he and Fercho edit the part of Miranda and Gustavo'x tape giving L custody so he can show it to Antonia. Lobo wants to show her in person. He and Ant agree to meet at the old convent in the Desierto de los Leones park in the outskirts of Mexico City. Lobo shows Antonia the clip. She says "Now I understand", and slaps handcuffs on him, handcuffing the two of them together. End episode.
