INTRO: "Tan cerca de ti, nace el amor . . . "

. . . starts Monday night at 8:00 EDT.  It is a remake of the 2014 Argentine telenovela "Somos familia" It is a family drama with a blend of friendship,  romance,  humor, jealousy, revenge, machismo, industrial espionage,  sabotage,  and even murder all against the backdrop of Motocross!!!  Will we have to trade in our beanies for helmets???  Anyway, the  cast is huge but full of familiar faces.

What follows is what I gleaned from Televisa, VIX and Univision.  I have tried to include all of the characters' names as I have discovered them so far and the actors representing them.  This list is by no way inclusive of all of the characters.

LOCATION: Mexico City

CHARACTERS

--Joaquín Navarro (David Zepeda) is co-owner of a Motocross business with his best friend Luis Miranda (Mane de la Parra).  Luis' wife is Susana (Daniela Cordero).    Joaquín has a personal assistant Kassandra (Irene Baeva). He also has a brother Iván (Jaume Mateu)who has a daughter María José. Carmen (Leticia Perdigón) is Luis' no-nonsense housekeeper.

The  Miranda children are  Valeria (Ariana Saavedra) and Diego ((Jaime Maqueo) (both secondary school age),  Daniela  (middle school age) and Melina (primary school age.)

--Verónica Arellano (Oka Giner) is a journalist who works for a magazine. Her father is Aurelio Arellano (Alexis Ayala). Her sister is Romina (Lizy Martínez) who is married to Marcos Tovar (Alfredo Gatica) who works as a mechanic at Joaquín's business.  Romina works there as a receptionist. Verónica's and Romina's mother is recently deceased.  Aurelio's brother is Nicolás (Francisco Rubio) and is a priest.  Verónica's aunt is Consuelo (Yolanda Ventura) and was her mother's sister. She has two children Nayeli (Bárbara Carbajal) and Bruno (Kaled Acab).

Alejandro Avila plays Joaquín's long lost  friend Facundo.  His son is  Eleazar (André Graham).

Hugo (Andrés González) is Carmen's nephew and  Valeria's friend.

PLOT

--Joaquín's story: Joaquín loves the single life but ends up the guardian of Luis' four children when a catastrophic event takes place.

--Verónica's story:  Verónica unexpectedly got pregnant at the age of fifteen and as soon as she gave birth, the baby was  put up for adoption.  She finally locates her daughter and decides to infiltrate her  home as domestic help (Consuelo)  to get to know her.

I will provide "Notes from the Couch" for the first week and will  decide what I do from there. If anyone would like to work on this novela as a team, that would be delightful!

Notes/recaps and comments will be in the "PRIMETIME on Univisión" posting starting with the first episode not in a separate posting like this.

From what I have seen, it could be a fun one.

  2. Jarifa, thank you for the synopsis and list of characters.

Yes, so many excellent actors! I like David and Oka but am also a fan of Alfredo Gatica, Jaume Mateu (La bella y las bestias) and the always amazing Verónica Jaspeado.

The moto races are intriguing and different. I will definitely be watching. Your "notes" are unfailingly exceptional; thank you for covering the first few episodes which (at least for me) are always so difficult as I struggle to learn not only the plot but the players.

  3. Diana, Maybe learning all these new names and storylines is good for our brains ! Ha! My family and friends still find it very funny that I have been watching telenovelas for so many years . Susan

  5. I think learning new languages is good for our brains. I think I have a finite number of words stored at any one time though. I have to think harder to come up with English synonyms for a word than I used to. Perhaps because I'm sorting through Spanish and French words for the same. Or else, I'm just getting old and I've killed too many brain cells in the passage of time.

  6. Thank you so much for such a detailed recap of all the actors and the plot. You did a sensational job!

After being a Caraymate since Blogmom started her Delicious Account with 'Amor Real' —my second favorite telenovela (right behind 'Corazon Salvage' with Eduardo Paloma).

It is such a coincidence that I am currently rewatching 'Sortilegio' and ABSOLUTELY hate David Zepeda and promised myself that I would never watch another telenovela by him. To me, he is revolting. While, on the other hand, this is the best performance by William Levy by far.

I love reading the comments even though I am rewatching it. It takes me forever to rewatch a telenovela because I go back and read all the recaps and comments.

Please does anyone know which telenovela received the most comments?????

  7. Hi, Victoria, I don't know what novelas received the most comments, but some days there would be over 100 comments. My first novels was Alborado ..still my favorite . I also loved Amor Real . Melinama was recapping all by herself when i found Pratie Place . Susan
