Vicki Makes New Friends and Lush-ous Leonela Longs for Auld Lang Syne

Capítulo 130

As Viewerville checks in for its nightly nosh of novela drek, Bernarda has accused Rudy Padilla of robbing her along with El Alacran and Rudy playing the wronged victim has accused Fausto; Maria (looking super sleek and chic sans the barrio braids) is excitedly talking with Max about going to the park with the two baby boys just like a real family; Padre Juan Pablo has overheard Fausto lying to Tomasa’s godson about her whereabouts; and Vic has just slapped the spit out of Leonela for having the brash balls to bring up Osvaldo’s trading Vic in for a newer model with half the miles and twice the bells and whistles a while back.

Osvaldo angrily throws Lush-ous out of the house and then begs Victoria to forgive him for what just happened.  Vic refuses to accept his apology and says screw it! As much as she continually tries to forget, somebody always manages to dredge it up again.

Outside the vecindad, Maria and Max run into their new super, Fausto, who tells them to be especially careful these days because of Padilla.  Yep, he says, he believes Padilla was the one who shot at them the other day because he had to rip away a rifle from him during Cruz and Fer’s wedding to avoid her getting shot at!  Maria wonders why the guy is so dead set on harming Max’s family. Max thanks Fausto who pledges life, limb and undying loyalty to Maria and their two babies.

In town, meanwhile, Padre Juan Pablo stops in at Casa Bernarda and begs his mama for the upmteenh time to repent of all her sins before it is too late.  She screams back at him--also for the umpteenth time--that she has nothing to repent for!  (After checking to see if, perchance, anything hanging on the walls is shaking, I start to think that this is beginning to sound like a broken record.  I mean, really JP needs to be a bit more creative here.  Come on! Let’s give the woman a reason already--something she really feels she can sink her fangs into!  Llamas del Infierno just doesn’t cut it!)

Handsome Dr. Heri meets Vicki for cake and coffee.  He feels like gettin’ chummy and says he wants to give her a backgrounder and then, afterwards, if he merits her trust, she can tell him her background.  (Viewerville wonders if he minored in psychiatry also or if he’s attracted to her.)  They start using the familiar “tú”.  Ruh-roh!

Eva pays a visit to Fausto and tells him to get his head on straight cuz Burnie was robbed and nearly killed the other night!  Fausto says too bad they didn’t succeed!  Eva says bad idea since the two of them need to get their pound of flesh from her first!  He doesn’t want to play family avenger anymore.  Eva tells him then that he has no right to remember his mama any longer.  He just gave up that right; he has betrayed her!

Back at the restaurant, Handsome Heri says there isn’t a day that he doesn’t think of his family, and he’s extremely grateful to Vic for letting him get it off his chest.  She’s grateful for the interest he’s taken in Fer’s attempt to walk again, she says.  Of course, his isn’t the only sad story to tell here and Vic gets a chance to tell him her tale of woe as well.  She confides after that she has little energy left and feels there’s nobody she can confide in really, since she found out her hubby was unfaithful to her, that is.  (So what’s Antonieta?  Chopped liver?)  They agree afterwards that the two of them have born heavy burdens of misfortune and misery and are companions in grief.  (I would say a groupie of grief in Victoria’s case.)   Heri takes her hand in his and squeezes.  She is no longer alone, he says, as he looks longingly into her eyes with deep, dark gem pools of his own and silently hopes for something more.  Ozzie, call your office!

At the same time across town at Casa Victoria Redux, Oscar asks Pepino to help him with a special request for that evening.  FF>>

Milagros and the two jarochas rehearse for the singing contest.  FF>>

Pepi makes a dinner date with Antonieta to discuss “something tragically upsetting” for him. FF>>

JP tells Padre Jeronimo that he feels like a failure since he cannot get his mama to repent.  Padre Jerry and he decide to pray that some day he will see her do exactly that.  FF>>

Guillermo stops by Casa Burnarda to suggest that she help him out financially or he will start looking into why it disturbs her so much that Maria Desamparada and Her Son The Priest are so close.  Yeah, he quips, her son may be holier-than-thou, but he’s a saint who’s apparently not without sin of some sort, right? He struts out and leaves her thinking that she’s got to get rid of “that sin” in order to keep her son’s reputation unsullied.

Back at Hotel Casa Vieja, Lush-ous Looni-ella contiues to drown her sorrows, first with the dregs of her bottle of booze and, then, in a luxurious bubble bath, reminiscent of days gone by when being Leonela Montenegro actually meant something. (Otherwise, I see no reason for that gratuitous bathroom bit except to give a few old farts a start with hopes of getting a view of her more or less private parts.  Geez!)

That night, Pepi and Toni meet at the restaurant where Mesero Oscar surprises her with an engagement ring for her main course and a violin table serenade for dessert.  FF>>

El Alacrán digs up the lock box with the money and papers they stole from Burnie’s safe.  “Good riddance to you, Padilla!”  FF>>

Vic is now back home, moping alone on her bed and remembering Handsome Heri’s honeyed tones and comforting words from earlier in the day, when she suddenly gets a jarring call from his totally opposite number.  “-What in the hell do you want??!!”  “--To do you a favor, in exchange for a large sum of money.”  What would that be? He’ll tell her who her daughter is!!  Why should she believe him?  Because he knows the name she couldn’t remember Burnarda whispering in her ear when she was still unconscious from the effects of the anesthesia in the hospital!!  Well, then!  That’s definitely a horse’s ass of a different color!  He gives her the address of where to meet him.  Be there or be square!

P.2. You Don’t Tug on Superman’s Cape, You Don’t Spit Into the Wind, You Don’t Pull on the Mask of That Ol’ Lone Ranger And You Don’t Mess Around With Burnie!  [My apologies to offended Jim Croce fans--ed.]

Capítulo 131

Osvaldo notices Victoria racing out of the house with her purse.  He decides to follow her.

Bernarda pays a visit to Fausto at the vecindad.  She wants him to scare Maria Desamparada away from the vecindad and hopefully she’ll even leave town.  Fausto refuses and tells Burnie that she better not try anything, either!  Just how does he think he’s going to stop her?  By reporting her to the police for Tomasa’s murder, but also for Rosalia and Gonzalo as well.  Burni is swallow-hard-impactada.

As PJP prays for his mama’s soul, Fausto informs Ste. Burnarda that he knows each and every one of her sins and begins to tell her what he remembers of the day his face got scarred:  the house locked from the outside, the flames burning his toys and both his parents; the way his father tried to find a hole for them to escape from but then was stopped because a burning beam fell down on his mother; how his father then, with the last of what strength remained, broke a window and threw him out of it, thereby saving his life.

“Aha! So you are Gonzalo’s bastard son and the cursed reason he wouldn’t leave your mother!”  “--Wrong, Sra.! I was not his son, ” he corrects her.  The only bastard in this story was the one she gave birth to--Padre Juan Pablo--the sin that has tormented her all her life!  She slaps him and yells at him to stifle.  Fausto stares her down, almost daring her to try that again!

In the old parts of the city, it’s Padilla and Victoria, twenty years later, same game, round two.  He’s still lookin’ for a little satisfaction. (Hell, if Ozzie can’t get no satisfaction, maybe Padilla shouldn’t be so cock-rock sure, either.)  Rudy taunts her.  She screams back at him that she came for the name.  Money first, please.  Be charitable!  He wouldn’t know the meaning of the word!  Sure he does, he says.  It means exchanging the good for the bad.  Vicki demands to know why he’s so bent on hurting her family.  He blames her daughter again for killing his son and she tells him the kid did it to himself!  Slap!!  Now give her the name of her daughter!  He wants to be paid and she says he knows full well that she hasn’t got any money to pay him with.  Well then, says Paunchy Padilla, there are other ways. Vicki sucks in her breath.

Back at the fancy restaurant, Pepi watches Toni accept Oscar’s proposal and wonders if he’ll ever find that special someone.  Up behind him walks Luluciano and we (thankfully) can FFFFFFFFFF>>>>>>>>>>>

Returning to Vic and Rudy, he waxes moronically metaphysical and says something about how life has brought them together again...blah, blah, blah...and that she excites him even more than before.  “--Don’t you come near me!!”  (Excuse me, but whatever happened to stopping off at the local Carrefour’s for a pocket sized can of hairspray or some such? I mean, we are talking about a night-time meet with social menace, raper of women, and otherwise brute extraordinaire, Rudy-Pain-in-the-Patooty-Padilla, remember????)  He jumps her, but she manages to eventually fight him off and says all right, just be gentle.   He begins to take off his jacket and starts mumbling some crazy crap he thinks is sexy.  He jumps for her again and she gets him good in his jewelery box before racing off into the dark.  He finds her and gives her a couple of right hooks in the jaw before knocking her down and jumping on top of her unconscious and defective goods.

Ozzie arrives at the abandoned warehouse just in time to save Vic from the sorry S.O.B.  He throws himself at Rutting Rudy and the rumble’s on.   Oz manages to give Rudy the bloodiest beating of his life--loan sharks not withstanding--and swears he’ll kill him for daring to lay hands on his wife, not to mention what he did to Vicki all those years ago!

Back at Fausto’s place, Burnie screams back demands to know what he and Eva had planned.  He says for himself, it was a means of avenging his mother and father’s death until he confessed all to PJP who convinced him not to do it.  Burnie is suck-it-in-impactada and demands then to know what said to Juan Pablo. Fausto fesses up to telling him everything, to the last snap, crackle and pop!   She is definitely S.F. & D. impactada at this revelation!  Oh, yeah, he’d love to wrench her neck but he won’t because altho’ he’s ugly and damaged goods on the outside, he is a good person on the inside.  She could care, of course and demands him and his aunt to leave the next morning!  Fausto “reminds” her that Eva isn’t his aunt and has no idea of his past.  However, if Burnie dares to harm a hair on her head she’ll be sorry for it. (Having had my first--and hopefully last--run in with fire-ants in Florida, I suggest dumping the old gal on a hill of those little critters and let ‘em have at it if she tries anything.  Talk about your llamas del infierno!)  “--She’s always been loyal to you and you will never find another one like her, I guarantee it.”  “--We’ll see!”  Burnie picks up her purse and walks out the door.

Once more we’re ringside at the warehouse free for all and Vicki is trying to pull Oz off Padilla because she’s scared to death that Oz really will kill him (and can you imagine the hell to pay for that in the press and with the police?)

Fausto races after Burnie and tells her that if she dares try to spill blood again he'll go straight to Her Son The Priest and tell him everything!  (The rest of this is a bit disjointed since he was speaking through clenched teeth.)  He forces her to look him in the eye and see the suffering she has caused!  Fausto wonders why it's necessary for her to cause so much suffering. He carries the scars on the outside, but she wears just as many of them on her soul!  Fausto gets her to shed a tear or two --but for whom and why, we haven't a clue.  She  tells him to just shut up and then walks away.  Maria, who has watched them arguing from a distance, walks up and asks what Burnarda came to talk to him about. "--The truth.  She came and heard the truth."

Over at Hotel Casa Vieja, Loonie is down to her last drop and suffering for it.  Downstairs at the reception desk, meanwhile, Handsome Dr. Heri finds out from the clerk that Looni-ella Montenegro is  Max's mother and that she is also a drunk. Heri asks if he can go up and visit with her.  Pedro, the clerk in charge, worries about not having prior permission from Max, but Dr. Heri takes charge and says never fear.  She's destroying the place again looking for a bottle of something when he comes knocking on the door and asks if he can talk to her a bit.

Back at Casa Scandal-val, Oz gives Vicki grief for going out that late at night to see that scoundrel without telling him.  Ok.  He's right, but she was taken with the desire to find out her daughter's name.

At the warehouse, Rudy through much blood, sweat and a few well-deserved sniveling tears, swears (what else?) revenge.

Heri tells Looni that he remembers Leonela Montenegro was a famous actress who mysteriously disappeared quite a while back.  Lush-ous says she'd rather not talk about it.  He apologizes for starting off with such informal chatter, and then formally introduces himself.  She dispenses with formalities and is definitely impressed with the M.D. in front of his name.  He says he's there to discuss something they both have in common: a problem with alcohol.

Meanwhile, back at Vic and Ozzie's, she's crying tears of frustration because she can't seem to remember the name Burnarda told her.  Oz says it's in there and when she's least expecting it, it will pop out and she'll remember it then.  She wonders if she's dealt with her recently but simply wouldn't have known.

Rudy makes it to his car and bemoans the fact that ever since his kid died, his life has turned to crap.  (As compared to what, I ask?)  He wonders if kids automatically become angels in heaven, because surely his would have become a devil instead.  (I believe this was what he was getting at.)

El Alacran has returned to the old warehouse with the dug up box of loot.  He hasn't any tools and can't get the chain off, so he goes out to find a locksmith or somebody to who can help him with it.

At the same time, Dr. Heri begins telling Lush-ous how he lost his wife to breast cancer and, due to a drunk driver,  his two kids on the very same day.  Leonela is touched by the story.  Heri mentions that he also happens to be the doctor who operated on her son's sister in order to help her walk again; if there's hope they can do more with Fer in the future then there's obviously hope for Lush-ous also.  At least, that's the way she takes it.  She agrees she has an illness and promises to work through the alcoholism for her son's sake.

Upstairs in Vic's bedroom, she and Ozzie have just cleaned up and are in their bath robes.  She's trying to clean up the cut on his face.  They share a moment of closeness when she decides it's time to show him her scar and wonders if he'll be able to stomach it.  Oz looks at the empty place on her chest and tries to comfort her.  She's still not out of danger yet and is scared she may still die.  She begs him to hold her tightly.

Rudy unlocks the box of Burnie's loot and stuffs it all into a pillowcase.

Maria and Max are sharing some quiet time on the couch.  Maria says she can't understand why her grandmother hates her so much and why every time she sees Maria she tries to hurt her somehow.

Speaking of La Abuela esa, she's currently ripping Rudy a new one for screwing up the supposed hit job on El Alacran.  Rudy says he's sorry, but he thought the guy was dead!  Seems he has more lives than a darned cat!  Rudy found him tonight hangin' with his buds and havin' a few brews.  "--Damn that dog!  Biting the hand that feeds him!"  Does Rudy know where he is right now?  Yeah, sure, says Rudy.  Great, says Burnie.  We're going to settle this thing once and for all!  They head for the old warehouse.  Scorpion Dud blames everything on Rudy and claims he's got the only key.  Rudy swears he has no key!  The key!  The key!  My life's fortune for that key!  Rudy picks it up out of the hiding place and opens the locked box.  "--There's nothing there!  El Alacran has taken it all!"  Burnie grabs Scorpion Dud by the collar and demands to know where her money is.  He has no idea and claims that Padilla has set a trap for him.  "--How can you accuse me of being your accomplice after stabbing Padre Juan Pablo?!!"  Scorpion Dud begs forgiveness for his mistake.  Burnarda turns around and goes for the gun in Rudy's belt hidden underneath his jacket.  She turns back around and shoots.  Scorpion Dud sputters his last.  She then turns the gun on Rudy.

End P.2.

Teresa Fri 5/27/11 #66 When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!

Cancún: Ter-or is having a berrinche to beat all berrinches. Arturo has just received an urgent business call requiring him to return to el D.F., cancelling their trip to Paris, Rome, Spain. Whoooooeeee, she is righteously pissed! How can he do this to her? She can’t believe his work is more important than her. All he can do he plead with her helplessly to understand this is muy importante, his client’s freedom is at stake. She gets teary eyed and leaves in a huff.

Vecindad: Juana and Esperanza are checking out the knitting Espe and Refugio have done for the baby. Juana assures Esperanza that Johnny will find an apartment faster than a rooster can crow (el canto de un gallo). That may be so but Espe is still very worried. Now that Aida knows where she lives, she can also find out about the pregnancy. Mayra comes a-knockin’! Juana answers the door and Mayra immediately recognizes her as Teresa’s godmother. She’s come to see Esperanza. Espe rushes to put away the knitting. Juana’s leaves them alone to talk but tells Espe she’ll be in the next room. Mayra gives Espe the once over.

Gema’s Store: Fito is waiting by Johnny’s cab and asks Gemma if she’s thought over his proposal to sell his “merchandize” at her store. She feels it’s too risky. He’s run into Johnny and has thought of a great way to use him. She’s intrigued and wants to know how much they’re talking about. He laughs wickedly.

Juana’s: Mayra tells Espe this is not a social call. She notices the bag Espe’s trying to push aside and asks if it’s a regalito from her husband. Espe pulls out a skein of yarn and asks if she’d like to check out her knitting – whew, that was close! Mayra would like to know the truth. Ruben wants to reconcile, telling her he still loves her and that the affair with Espe was nothing more than una aventura. Espe confirms this and just as she’s asked Aida for forgiveness she would now like to do the same with Mayra. She never intended to break up a marriage. Mayra isn’t letting her off that easy. She’s sure Espe thought she had it made with Ruben, thinking he would get her out of the vecindad. Espe begins to repeat that she never meant to break up a marriage but Mayra stops her, telling her not to lie. Then she asks how much Espe would want to get out of their lives forever. Espe’s offended.

Gema & Fito: She’s warming up to the idea. He feels his plan would keep her and Johnny above suspicion and he could continue his distribution and not lose his client base. She supposes correctly that things have gotten kind of tough for him and that’s why he hasn’t been seen. He admits those risks come with the territory. She tells him to continue to lay low because the police have come around asking about him. He figures that Paulo’s family must have good contacts. She assures him her lips are sealed. He warns her that would be best because payback’s a bitch in this business. She tells him to back off, she wants to do business with him. He’s glad to hear it saying she’ll earn much more selling his “candy” than with her loan shark dealings. Doofus Johnny comes back carrying a bag of tortas for Fito. Fito gives him what appears to be a big tip and tells him he’ll call “El Huarache Veloz” (the Fast Huarache – ja ja ja) real soon and reminds both Johnny and Gema that they didn’t see him here. After he leaves, Gema tells Johnny she doesn’t want to loan him any money but does have some work for him. Johnny’s real happy to hear that. Oh, this does not bode well for El Huarache Veloz.

Casa de Geno: Ruben is still lamenting about the Battle at la Boda. Geno tells him Mayra remembered the call from Espe while they were in Paris. He’s screwed. His attempt to reconcile with Mayra keeps getting more and more complicated. He must patch things up before Aida discovers the fraudulent goings on in Mayra’s business affairs. Geno has other things in mind, namely taking advantage of the time they have while he’s still free. Ruben can’t be distracted. He must find a way to regain Mayra’s confidence. Fine, Geno says, go find her. Ruben plans on going back to the house and wait until Mayra returns home.

Juana’s: Mayra is waiting for an answer from Espe, asking her to name the price for moving to another city, never to return. Espe tells her she’s very mistaken. Espe’s a woman in love who made a huge mistake, she’s not a vulgar blackmailer (vulgar chantajista). She asks Mayra to leave and shows her the door. Mayra tells Espe not to put on airs. She’s offering her money that she’ll never earn as a nurse. Espe’s trying very hard to control herself and tells Mayra that if her aim was to offend her, well she’s done it and now she needs to leave. Mayra tells her to think about her offer. The amount she’s offering her will give her the opportunity to live well, not in a pigsty (pocilga) like this. Espe tells her again to leave and never return. Mayra suggests she accept her offer or she’ll regret it because no one would ever offer her so much for so little work; but of course, Espe would know much more about such transactions. WHOA!! Now Espe threatens to throw her out. Mayra finally leaves and Espe begins to cry. Juana, who’s been listening this whole time, goes to comfort her.

Casa de la Barrera: The honeymooners arrive. Teresa starts giving Reina the maid orders. Reina informs them that Jacinto (handy man?) is on vacation. She also tells them Juana hasn’t been around and neither has Luisa. She hasn’t been there and hasn’t called either. Ruh-roh! Teresa gets a smug look on her face.

Fernando’s pad: Luisa is huddled over some blueprints and Fernando declares the workday over. They chitchat playfully and start canoodling. Fernando asks her to stay the night. He wants to wake up with her by his side. She agrees.

Casa de la Barrera: I don’t know what Teresa’s thinking! She goes back to her old room with Mr. Hawtness himself coming in right after her. He asks which room they’re going to sleep in? She’s all discombobulated and sighs heavily that she’s very tired. He reminds her she’s now his woman (funny how they use that phrase) and she has to choose which bedroom they’ll use. She’s losing her poker face, she better be careful.

Casa de Chavez: Refugio tells Armando the house feels so empty without Esperanza. She worries about her being away from the people who know her best and can help her. Armando feels Teresa would be angry if she heard Refugio saying that. Their allegiance is to their daughter. Refugio acknowledges that Espe made a terrible mistake but she’s paying dearly for it. Just thinking about that awful man and what he’s done to her and how she’s going to be a single mother, her heart just aches for her. Armando understands but they can’t put someone else’s wellbeing (buen estar) before their daughter’s. Refugio’s sure Teresa wouldn’t because they’re childhood friends,. Armando thinks they should wait until after the honeymoon to ask Teresa. Got news for you Pops, the honeymoon is over!

Honeymooners: The Berrinche continues: Teresa doesn’t intend to sleep with him because she’s still very angry over the cancellation of the honeymoon. She feels a married couple should make such decisions together. Arturo counters that as his wife, and as an attorney herself, she should understand; didn’t she just vow she would stand by him for better or for worse? That includes business. She says it also means that he must accept her decision not to want to see him when she’s so angry. (wait, what?) He feels this is just a whim (capricho) and he will not permit it. He asks again, where will they sleep, in her room, or his? She tells him he can stay if he wishes but his attitude will only serve to worsen the situation. She turns her back on him and walks away. Arturo can’t believe what’s just happened. They’ve been married what, 24 hours?

Casa de Chavez: Mariano comes by to check Refugio’s blood pressure but also to apologize for what happened yesterday at the wedding. Armando lays into him for ruining his daughter’s wedding. He calls him ínfeliz, what he did at the wedding was the last straw (el colmo). He’s really angry, recalling how Mariano promised he would leave Teresa alone. Teresa has told Mariano repeatedly she doesn’t love him anymore. Is he wrong, or what? Did Teresa do something to change his mind? (I’ll say she did). There’s no name for what he did, ruining her wedding so she’d run off with him. What he did was wrong and it only earned him Teresa’s hate and his (Armando’s). You tell him, pops. Mariano’s sorry to hear Armando say that about him. Maybe it’s best they no longer speak about Teresa. For now, he wants to check on Refugio’s health. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Armando tells him not to bother. He’s not the only doctor in the world. He’ll get someone else to check on Refugio, maybe Aurora. As for Mariano, he’s no longer welcome at Casa Chavez and he should stay away from Teresa too. He’s really steamed. Refugio asks him to calm down. Mariano looks a little angry also.

Honeymooners: Bedtime for Teddy! Arturo’s waiting in bed while Tersa stomps around the room in her robe, walking the angry wife walk. She gets into bed without saying a word, grabs Teddy and turns away from Arturo, preferring to snuggle with Teddy. Arturo, obviously not recognizing the Teddy’s resemblance to Mariano, pleads with her not to be angry. They’re on their honeymoon. Teresa corrects him: oh no, the honeymoon he promised her was in Europe, not here. He snuggles up to her, kissing her face, her shoulders, asking if the honeymoon is more important to her than him. She pouts, saying he knew how important it was to her to visit those cities, and visit them with him. He promises they can still go, not to think of it as a cancellation, but as a postponement (aplazamiento). He promises to make it up to her. He doesn’t want them to go to bed angry. She tells him it’s too late for tonight. He continues to snuggle and as he does so, he grabs Teddy and throws him across the room. Teresa flies out of bed to rescue him, saying she always sleeps with Teddy. Arturo thinks it’s cute, teasing she’s still such a child in some ways. (gag) She tells him that Teddy brings her good memories. He assumes Juana gave it to her then tells her she now has him to hug and kiss and with much better results! She tells him not tonight cuz she’s not mad at Teddy but she’s mad at him. He repeats she’s still such a child but she’ll mature with him by her side. For tonight, he won’t be able to sleep without holding her and kissing her. Teresa hugs Teddy.

Casa Caceres: Mayra arrives home and is surprised by Ruben waiting for her in the living room. He was getting worried, it’s so late. She tells him her comings and goings are none of his business. He asks her to stop being this way. Ok, so she’s met the other woman. She should see that she’s nothing (ni te alcanza los talones=doesn’t reach your heels). Does she think he’d trade her in for a woman like that? Mayra points out that didn’t stop him from sleeping with her. Ruben tells her the only woman he cares for his standing here before him. (ugh) He asks again for another chance. She’s not sure. He asks that they at least give it a chance. She turns from him and thought bubbles Aida’s warning about her other divorced friends like the one whose husband ended up having a child with the “other woman” who now just wants all his money. She relents and tells him he can come home. He’s very relieved and thinks he’s won. She makes it clear she’s only doing it to avoid further scandal. He immediately talks of going for his things and she tells him to put them in the guestroom. She’s not ready to have him share hers just yet.

Casa Alcazar : Aida’s come by to get the dirt from Aurora on la boda from hell. She wonders why Mariano seemed so sure Teresa wasn’t going through with the marriage. Aurora isn’t saying anything. Aida assures her it’s not to harass Teresa. Aurora wonders if it’s for Mariano’s sake and asks if Aida is sincerely interested in him.

Casa Caceres: Ruben asks Mayra not to be so tough on him. She tells him she’s only doing this for Aida. He’s glad to hear that but now that he’s back home there’s no further need for poor Aida to work so hard on behalf of Mayra’s interests. Mayra makes it very clear Aida will continue to work on her behalf. He says he’s hurt that she would have such little confidence in him; that she would think him capable of mismanaging her money. [oh, he’s capable alright] She doesn’t know if it was mismanaged or not, but she does know that up until now, he was managing it on his own. And those days are now over. Aida is teaching her how to manage her own finances. He doesn’t understand why that’s necessary. She tells him if she doesn’t earn his respect as a woman, she’ll never earn it as his wife. You go, sister!

Casa Alcazar: Aida is really confused about Mariano. First he says they’re on, then they’re not. Aurora understands Aida should be furious but she must understand that Mariano and Teresa dated for a long time and were headed for the altar. That’s why Teresa’s wedding hit him so hard. She doesn’t know what else she can do to help him. Perhaps Aida can. Aida still wants to know the whole story, saying that’s the only way she can help Mariano. She’s sure Teresa still loves Mariano and only married Arturo for his money. She wants to know what happened between Teresa and Mariano to cause him to think Teresa would cancel the wedding. Aurora suggests she speak with Mariano – he’s the only one who can tell her. She asks Aida again what she feels for Mariano. Again, Aida says she’s confused. She doesn’t know if she can ever love again after what happened with Paulo. She feels really good with Mariano but she’s really angry with him right now because as it turns out he knew all about her father’s cheating ways and even knows the other woman. Aurora tells her the bad news that she also knew everything but they had agreed not to say anything because of her recent loss. Aida: “¡Que mala onda! Why didn’t you tell me?”

Casa Caceres: Rubigote playing the victim doesn’t understand why Mayra’s doing this to him. Does she want to make him feel bad or minimize (minimizar) all his work? After everything he’s done for this family? Marya doesn’t understand why it’s an issue for her to manage her own money. He claims he just wants to compensate for all the hurt he’s caused her, take her out, travel together. If she’s working, well, he just won’t be able to do all those things with her. Mayra doesn’t miss the irony in all this. When he was “working” so hard, she had to beg him just to go out to a restaurant. And now…..he interrupts her thought to finish the sentence. And now, he says, now that he’s at the point of losing her, he’s learned to appreciate her like never before. She’s been the best wife and mother. She agrees but she’s tired of dedicating herself full time to being a wife and mother and with unfavorable results. She asks him to take it or leave it. Ruben takes a big gulp.

Casa Grump’s: Pati is looking forward to her freedom. She’s drawn sad faces on the wall, counting the days until her adulthood, calling it her day of liberation. Grandpa has news for her. Even when she becomes an adult, she’ll have to continue to do as he says. He tells her he loves her very much and wants the best for her. He doesn’t want her to make the same mistakes her mother did. Pati fights back, saying it’s his own fault for making his daughter marry someone she didn’t love. Then she kicks him out of her room so she doesn’t have to keep looking at him! Grandpa starts yelling, telling her not to speak to him that way, foolish child (escuincla majadera) [sounds a lot harsher in Spanish], he’s not going anywhere. She threatens to change into her pj’s in front of him. He looks upward, asking God what he did to deserve this escuincla and finally leaves. Pati just laughs. Boring scene.

Geno’s house: Ruben returns and exaggerates, telling Geno that Mayra has given him thousands of conditions for him to return home. Geno jumps up, ¡¿QUE!? She’s pissed to hear that he’s returning to Mayra. He tells her this is what works best for them. He needs to be by Mayra’s side. Geno is unconvinced.

Fernando’s pad: It’s morning and they’re sharing breakfast on the coffee table. Doesn’t he have a dining table/brkfst nook in this fantabulous high-rise apt? They talk about how wonderful it is to wake up together. He wonders if they should continue in this fashion until newlyweds return from their honeymoon. She has two conditions: that Arturo not find out and that Fernando do all the cooking. Kissy, kissy.

Casa de la Barrera: Señora de la Barrera gulps down a glass of o.j. and makes it clear to Reina that she doesn’t plan on having breakfast with el Señor. When Reina leaves, Teresa thought bubbles as she holds up a credit card, “Why would I want all your love, Arturo. It’s enough to have all your money.”

Casa Caceres: Aida’s on the phone with Mariano, she’s slept on it (consulte con mi almohada= consulted my pillow) and has come to a conclusion, can they meet?

Casa de la Barrera: Reina tells Arturo she has no idea where la Sra. is. He’s clearly upset, wondering what is wrong with her. When he asks about his sister, Reina spills it, telling him she’s not there either and didn’t sleep there. Just then Luisa walks in and doesn’t see Arturo on the balcony. She’s talking to Fernando on her cell, saying she’s only going to pack her suitcase (maleta) and she’ll be right back. Arturo speaks up, “¿Que dijiste?” Ruh-roh! He demands to know where she spent the night then wonders why he asked when it’s obvious she spent the night with Fernando. Luisa tries to get past him up the stairs but he stops her and pulls her to his office. “We need to have a serious discussion.”

Casa Caceres: Mayra wonders why Aida wants to continue seeing Mariano. Aida explains she needs to continue with her plan to get over Paulo plus continue volunteering at the clinic. Mayra doesn’t think it’s such a good idea to continue going to that vecindad, possibly running into that woman. Aida disagrees and repeats that Geno suggested she keep an eye on Espe and keep her in line. Mayra tells of her run-in with Espe, sarcastically repeating that Espe called herself a “woman in love who had made an error.” Aida’s annoyed that her mother lowered herself to visit the vecindad. If there’s a problem she should let Aida handle that “tipa”. Mayra doesn’t know what she’d do without Aida. She’s so sensata (wise, sensible) and intelligent.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo is scolding Luisa over the Fernando affair. He doesn’t understand and doesn’t accept what’s happened. Luisa begs him not to fight with Fernando. He didn’t force her into anything. On the contrary, he’s been nothing if not sweet and patient with her. Arturo can’t believe she can be so nonchalant about this. Luisa asks that he not treat her like a child. She knew full well what she was doing. She made a decision and doesn’t regret it. Arturo wonders how she knows he’s “the one” (el hombre indicado=suitable, appropriate). She recalls she was just a child when Fernando left for Spain but she never stopped thinking of him. She loves him and he loves her. [So what happened to that bf, Julio? That she was dating pre-Fernando?] Arturo says he’s sorry but it’s difficult for him to suddenly see her as a woman. He’s so accustomed to taking care of her. She understands it’s not easy for him.

Casa Caceres: Aida congratulates mom on the handling of Rubigote. Mayra has Aida to thank for the advice but she still needs her help in managing her money. Aida wholeheartedly agrees and also tells her to continue to stand firm with Ruben. Most importantly, she needs to continue to punish him and not forgive him. At the very least, she’ll have the satisfaction of making him suffer. Mayra’s not sure she can handle all this. She’s never managed her money. Aida reminds her it’s her money and strongly advises her not to give in to Ruben.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa’s uncomfortable talking about this with Arturo. He understands he needs to start treating her differently. He just has one question: “Te estas cuidando?” (safe sex?) She confirms she is and laughingly admits that’s the first thing Teresa asked her. Hold the phone! Teresa knew? Luisa tries to explain Teresa is her bestie (or is it beastie? Sorry, it’s getting late) and was sworn to secrecy. Arturo is frustrated realizing he was the only one who didn’t know (el único que estaba en la luna=the only one on the moon). She doesn’t want him to be upset with Teresa, she didn’t agree with this either. He lets on that they’re having a spat. He explains the cancellation of the honeymoon as the cause of the argument. Luisa can’t believe he cancelled for work-related issues. Poor Teresa, what a disappointment. [yeah, my heart bleeds for her]

Speaking of which, Tere’s shopping her little heart away. You could say she’s on a shark-like feeding frenzy--fashionista style. The sales person is showing her watches in an array of colors. Hmmmm, she just can’t decide: she’ll take them all. Can he also show her the jewelry in that other case?

Hospital: Espe is telling Hernán el Galán that Johnny has managed to pull together the money for an apt and she’s in the process of signing the lease. He offers her money if she needs it. She flatly refuses, saying the only reason she tells him all this is because she feels so comfortable with him. If that’s the case, he says, she needs to stop calling him Doctor. [oh, Doctor!] He also asks that she refrain from addressing him in the formal Udsted. She’s shy about doing so and he tells her he’s very comfortable with her and insists.

Juana’s apt: Cutberto pops up at her window, dressed in his traje de charro. She lets him in even as she’s complaining about him. He’s happy to see her and lifts her in his arms and twirls her around. She uses yet another version of her favorite dicho: “¡Bájame! Si me da una vuelta más, lo mato” (put me down, if you give me another turn, I’ll kill you). He continues blabbing on about how wonderful it is to see her, to look into her eyes so chulas and in walks Hector the Director! HELLOOOO DOCTOR! They chit-chat a bit about his etiquette classes with Aurora. Hector goes so far as to invite him to his house for lessons and possibly a little copita de tequila if he’d like. Cutberto can’t manage being polite much longer, saying “¡Ya no aguanto!” (I can’t take it anymore). Then he cleans it up by saying he just got in from a gig and can’t take the lack of sleep anymore. Hector, ever the gentleman, wonders if Juanita was in the middle of fixing his clothes or something. Juanita makes it clear their business is finished, he was just leaving. Cutberto can’t help but put in a dig, saying that seeing them together has chased away his drowsiness. He thinks he’ll go see Griseldita, ‘scuse me! Juanita quickly asks who Griseldita is as Cutberto rushes off. Hector’s always so nervous when he’s alone with Juana, it’s cute. He tries to tell her about his first wife. She assumes he’s about to propose and doesn’t let him finish, telling him she’s got lots to do. He offers to go with her and she reluctantly agrees.

Hospital: Hernán and Espe continue their conversation. Espe realizes she really doesn’t know much about him other than he never married. He begins to bare his soul, telling Espe that he fell in love with the wrong woman and thought he would never fall in love again. He thinks he may have come to that conclusion too quickly but before he can go on, Espe’s obstetrician interrupts. She asks Espe to come by for a check up and then reminds Hernán they’re eating together later. He tells her to brace herself cuz they’ll be spending the whole afternoon together. Espe looks on and I detect maybe a little, tiny bit of jealousy creeping in? Maybe she’s finally feeling something for the good Doctor? Oooh Doctor!

Casa Grumps: Spare me! Johnny is climbing the ladder to visit with his Juliet. They kiss and they talk of their plans. He tells her about his new workload with Gemma. I think I missed something here but I gather that his work with Gemma involves deliveries from her store to nearby residences. They chitchat some more, then they kiss (ugh).

Casa de Geno: Speaking of kissing, Ruben and Geno are sharing a passionate kiss. When they part, he speaks of the wonderful evening they had last night. Well, since he was leaving, she wanted to make sure he left with the best of memories. He agrees saying he enjoyed it so much that he’s here again. It’s too bad he had to return home last night. She tells him it’s going to take some getting used to, him not being there. Ever since Paulo’s death, she feels so alone in that house. [what, no violin?] She’s happy he came by so early. He wanted to make the extra effort to come by early before seeing Aida because she’s sure to reprimand him.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa’s grateful Arturo is so understanding. He just wants her to be happy and he expects Fernando to be at his best. Now that they’re relationship has changed, what’s next he asks. Are they planning to move in together? She’s not sure, she still wants marriage. He knows there are many who don’t believe in marriage anymore but with the right partner, it could still work. She agrees but feels that without marriage there’s no real commitment. He agrees that in this case that’s probably true, reminding her of Fernando’s womanizing ways. She naively says those days are over. He agrees she has the right to live her life but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t worry about someone hurting her. He tells her to seriously consider everything calmly.

Casa de Geno: Ruben asks Geno to speak with Aida and help him convince her to stay out of Mayra’s business ventures. He wants to keep Aida and Mayra busy. Yes, now Mayra has the silly idea of running her own affairs and that just won’t do.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa agrees to think everything over carefully and that gives Arturo some relief. She advises him to patch things up with Teresa. He calls her and our little Tiburoncita is at a café surrounded by shopping bags. She ignores his call saying now he’s going to suffer a good while for her. He leaves her a message as she smugly thumbs through a magazine. She comes to an article all about the Escándalo en la Boda del Prestigiado Abogado Arturo de la Barrera. The article asks, “¿Quien es su novia que se debate entre dos amores?” (who is this bride who debates between two loves?) Teresa is muy impactada! “¡Ay, no!”

Teresa Thu 5/26/11 #65 No just compensation for sleeping with Professor Hottie. Life is unfair.

TERESA EPISODE 65, May 26, 2011

TECHNICAL NOTE: I am still without HD but I did screencaps in fairly good quality SD (Standard Definition). Please click on all screencaps to see a higher quality image.

We start with a flashback of Martin telling Paloma that Teresa dated Mariano and Mariano showed up and made a big scene at the wedding. Paloma is impactada and remembers seeing Mariano and Teresa kissing once.

Now it's the wedding night and I'm going to try to recap this (rather brief and kind of depressing) wedding night, Harlequin Romance style. (As an aside, I got one of my sisters—who doesn't know any Spanish but enjoys hearing me tell her about these soaps—to watch tonight's episode! LOL. She actually was able to follow along pretty well and she may catch Alborada. Because, you know, Fernando Colunga and all . . . Anyway.)

THE WEDDING NIGHT, HARLEQUIN ROMANCE STYLE

In Cancun, the lights are dim as Arturo carries Teresa over the threshold of their luxury hotel room. He gently lowered her down as they linger over a kiss. The lights are low as flickering candles are placed in strategic spots around the room and rose petals are sprinkled on the expansive bed. Teresa gasps as she looks around the beautiful room and Arturo smiles adoringly, following close behind her.

Carried over the threshold.

"How beautifully everything is decorated!" she smiles.

"Yes, my love," he says, reaching for her and clasping her hands while gazing at her adoringly. "Now you are my wife—and finally you are going to be my woman." (I'm losing something in the translation here but I think we get what he's getting at and so does Teresa because the shark music plays and she gives this uncertain look. Thank you Audrey for extra clarification!)

At the Chavez household, a weepy Esperanza is telling Refugio and Armando what's going on. The dad of Aida is also the baby daddy. She had an affair with a married man! Why didn't she say before? She was afraid, she says. She seems so ashamed. Maybe it's better that she go, they seem to agree.

Back to our Harlequin Romance wedding night …

Teresa turns to Arturo and smiles. "Yes, the moment we've been waiting for so long is here," she breathes, "But as a result I'm very nervous" she says as she looks away shyly.

"Ah, champagne! Shall we have a cup? I want to toast to us!" she said. Smiling, he agrees and proceeds to open the bottle. It opens with a resounding "pop!" as Teresa jumps nervously and Arturo laughs, caressing her with his eyes.

At Casa Chavez I think Armando is thinking that Esperanza better leave because this involves big shots (Rubigote and his wife) but Refugio is worried about what will happen to Esperanza. Armando apologetically says that this might indirectly affect Teresa because she's married to Professor Hottie. Esperanza tearfully says she understands. Don't worry, she'll go in the morning. Refugio is quite concerned about Esperanza. But Esperanza (I think) wants to go because she says she doesn't want Rubigote or Aida to know that she's pregnant.

Harlequin Romance wedding night …

Arturo and Teresa's champagne glasses tinkle musically as they make a toast. Teresa drinks her champagne quite a bit faster than Arturo does and then they both put down their glasses. Teresa looks stiff and nervous. Arturo gently looks into her eyes. This is the moment he has been waiting for, oh, all this time. This very very long time.

The nervous bride.

"You are so beautiful, Teresa." he whispers huskily. "I love you and I want you to have total confidence in me." He leans in for a kiss, tenderly peppering her face and then neck with slow, sensual kisses. Teresa purses her lips slightly, tense and uncomfortable at Arturo's ministrations.

"Teresa, Teresa, you are lovely" Arturo breathes between slow, burning, passionate kisses. But all Teresa can think of is her recent night of passion with Mariano. As Arturo continues to kiss her face and neck, Teresa slowly puts her arms around his neck and returns his kisses. The passion of their kisses deepens.

And we cut to…

Mariano, laying on his bed garbed in only sweatpants, with his fabulous abs in full display. (My sister made special comment about Mariano and his abs!)

Great abs, dude.

Mariano is also remembering that recent night of passion with Teresa. He calls Aida and leaves a message saying he doesn't want to live in the past and he'd like to give them a chance.

After the lovin' in Cancun, Professor Hottie is out for the count but Teresa is staring into space, suppressing her tears. So this is what it feels like to prostitute herself, I guess she is thinking. She turns on her side and curls up into a little ball, remembering the passionate words of love between her and Mariano.

Suppressed tears on the wedding night.

Aida comes over to Mariano's place in the middle of the night. He's still just wearing the sweatpants but she doesn't visibly notice the great abs. She's crying and ranting about her dad and Esperanza and complaining saying that Esperanza is a friend of Teresa and then getting angry at Mariano because he knew and never told her.

Back from the date between Juana and Hector the Director. They had a great evening out but now she's really tired and wants to collapse in bed. She also says that Teresa is going on a honeymoon for about two months and in truth Juana has missed her house. The neighborhood has been her life, with all the people and her stuff. Hector the Director says understanding things. Hector the Director moves in for a kiss but Juana starts to yawn, then apologizes. Hector leaves after giving her a goodnight kiss.

More drama with Aida shrieking at Mariano about the whole Esperanza/Rubigote affair thing and Teresa's involvement in it. FF>>>

A knock on Juana's door. She thinks it's Hector the Director but it's Cutieberto and he wants her back, lather rinse repeat. He is in his Mariachi costume and he gets on his knees in front of her. Lots of sweet talk and she chases him out. She's got a boyfriend already and she's a decent woman! Some cute horsesh*t as she threatens to hit him with a vase and he finally leaves.

I guess Teresa is not sufficiently impressed by Professor Hottie's great body.

In Cancun Professor Hottie finally wakes up and Teresa is not in bed. He shows off his fabulous bod as he goes out to the balcony where she is looking at the ocean. Tears are in her eyes and she looks absolutely stricken, but of course Professor Hottie is oblivious to all this and is instead blissfully happy.
Professor Hottie is oblivious to Teresa's distress.

He asks how she is, she says fine. She couldn't sleep and was thinking about how she's got all she wants now. Yeah right. Professor Hottie is touched and goes to hug her, saying "Me too." His face is one of perfect contentment but Teresa still looks stricken.

Not everyone is happy in this picture.

She pulls away from him. She wants to go have breakfast but he wants to have breakfast in bed with her. Yeah sure, she says.

Esperanza is leaving Casa Chavez, thanking Armando and Refugio for helping her when she needed it the most. Armando again apologizes, saying he's got to think of Teresa first. Esperanza understands. Refugio says make sure to tell us when you have the baby and I'll be sure to help you out.

Aida ranting and raving more about Esperanza and Teresa, this time with Rubigote. This time complaining because he was messing with a vecinidad girl or something. Whatever. He has more excuses. Lather, rinse, repeat. He wants her to help in reconcile with mom. She thinks he's got a lot of nerve.

Esperanza is still weepy, talking to Mariano about what's going down. Aida is pissed at Mariano, blah blah blah. She's still got to find a place to stay. Mariano talks philosophically about how Teresa is not his. It looks like he's finally maybe getting a clue about her and is gonna wash that girl out of his hair for good.

More ranting and raving between Aida and Rubigote about all his sins and blah blah blah.

In Cancun, Teresa and Professor Hottie are wandering along the beach. He says it's a pity but he's got to sign some papers or something. Teresa plays up to him and says she's gonna miss him, kissy kissy. Shark music plays. He turns to go and then turns back to her. She's already turned away, completely tuning him out. He has this hesitant look on his face for a second like he knows what she's thinking or is uncertain about her. She looks disgustedly back at him and says "Finally he left" (or something like that). Such a loving bride! She then says to herself that it's so beautiful, but the only thing missing is you, Mariano.

At the hospital, Aurora is having a crying jag because she lost her first patient. Mariano is there to comfort her and talk to her about it. He hugs her in an attempt to calm her down. Of course Martin comes in and sees.

Gen and Mayra are talking about Rubigote and stuff. Mayra is haunted by seeing Esperanza. Gen dismisses Espe as a naca. Don't worry about her. She's no rival for you. Gen asks Mayra what she's gonna do. Mayra is not sure, she's adored Rubigote for a long time. Gen says she understands, that's how it was with the dad of Paulo.

Geno pretends to be a friend to Aida.

As soon as Aurora sees Martin she rushes to him and tells him that she lost a patient and goes in for a hug and some Martin comfort. All very appropriate but I think Martin is a little concerned anyway.

More with Mayra and Geno. Geno is encouraging Mayra to divorce the mustache. Aida comes in and Marya tells her that she's going for (I think) an amicable divorce, but Aida does not want that. Rubigote hurt her pride terribly, make him pay through the mustache! (I'm going with a lot of mustache jokes today, sorry.)

At the hospital, Magda is giving Aurora some tea and words of comfort. Then Martin wants to have a talk. He wants to talk about their relationship before they have any pain. Uh oh.

More with Aida ranting and raving about making Rubigote pay. A lot of this has to do Teresa. Complain, complain, complain about Teresa.

Martin admits to Aurora that it bothered him to see her hugging Mariano. Is this the guy she has been trying to forget? Aurora assures him that Mariano only sees her as a friend and that's not going to change. They talk a little more and I think Aurora is saying maybe it would be better if they just ended it, but Martin doesn't want that. He's enjoyed being with her. She worries that he deserves more. No, it's okay, he says, it's a risk he's willing to take.

Geno asks Aida how come it is that Mariano was so sure that Teresa wasn't going to marry Professor Hottie. I missed some of the conversation but I think Geno is advising Aida to keep her enemies close so she can keep an eye on them. Aida gets a phone call and it's a message that Mariano left saying he wants to give it another go with her. She smiles smugly.

At the hospital things are happy between Martin and Aurora and they talk to Mariano. He gives Aurora a medical symbol as a pin or something. She thanks him.

Geno is asking Aida why she wants to see Mariano. She says that something very strong was between Teresa and Mariano. Maybe we can use that to make Professor Hottie leave Teresa. Geno wants to avenge the death of her son.

Mayra runs in and is in tears and screaming. I guess she found out that for so long Rubigote was stepping out on her with Esperanza. When they were in Paris (how long ago was that?) even! Mayra looks resolved and now she knows what she's going to do…

Martin is talking with Mariano about Aurora being upset about the patient's death. Mariano tells Martin that he views Aurora as a friend and that isn't going to change and he hopes that Martin will also consider him a friend. Time will tell, Martin says. He then says that now that Teresa is married, Mariano should be thinking of someone else. He then says that Aida is worried about him (Mariano). Mariano says that now Aida wants nothing to do with him.

At Cancun, Professor Hottie and Teresa are kissing in the massive pool and then eating fruit poolside. A sequences of scenes where Professor Hottie draws her name in the sand with a heart around it, but when Professor Hottie isn't looking, Teresa is writing "M y T" with a heart around it in the sand (several times she does this). What a bruja! Is Professor Hottie that bad? Seriously?

Now this is just childish.

More with Professor Hottie and Teresa frolicking at the beach and we have our mandatory telenovela kissing in water scene.

Obligatory Kissing In Water Scene. It's Telenovela Law, you know.

Martin is giving Aurora a bracelet. She thinks is lovely and she thanks him. He says he's got a special gift for her, it's some sort of cake. Yum! A servant brings it in and sets it on the table. It's so pretty she doesn't want to eat it, but he insists.

Sweetness in the form of Martin, and the cake.

Hector the Director is counseling Mariano, I think about his display at Teresa's wedding. Mariano says it's personal but Hector the Director says it's affecting his professional life. They talk about the good project they're working on and how it needs donations. They don't need a scandal. What if a picture got in a magazine of this whole thing? Hector the Director says he hopes there won't be any more scandals because if there are, they have a PROBLEM. He then talks something about having a woman by your side that doesn't want to be there. (I am getting tired so please forgive me here if I miss stuff!) You can tell that Hector the Director is talking about his own experiences here and he wants Mariano to listen to his advice.

Geno is talking with Paloma about the wedding of Professor Hottie, Rubigote and Mayra, blah blah blah. They talk about the pain of losing a child.

Johnny has been giving a ride to the loanshark/landlady in his taxi. Some talk about paying in installments, I think for somewhere for Esperanza to stay? Landlady doesn't promise anything. Here he will wait, he says. As he's standing there, the drug dealer guy (still cannot remember his name!) walks up and Johnny gulps nervously.

More conversation between Paloma and Geno. Geno I think is talking about finding the drug dealer.

Said drug dealer is talking to Johnny next to Johnny's cab. I think Johnny is aware of how Paulo died and cannot believe how drug dealer can put on such an innocent face. Then somehow the conversation goes to loaning Johnny money. "How much do you need?" drug dealer guy asks as he starts counting out from a stack of bills.

Johnny is uncomfortable with this offer of money.

Aurora is showing dad Hector the Director the bracelet she got from Martin and then the little medical pin she got from Mariano. She then asks dad if he's found anything out about mom. Dad hands her a card of some investigator who is going to look. He says he's not just doing it for Aurora, but also for Juana. Because she interests him, he says, sighing.

Cutieberto is asking a favor of Juana. He asks if Esperanza can stay with her.

Johnny takes the money from drug dealer guy. Oh dear! Johnny says he's accepting it because he has to, but he's gonna pay it back because he has his business. (The taxi driving I guess.)

Cutieberto helps Esperanza bring her stuff in to Juana's. Juana's happy to have her there. Some stuff falls out of one of Esperanza's bags. It's baby booties and clothes. They coo and ooh and aah over the clothes.

Cutiberto is coming downstairs and a woman has her back to him. She turns around and it's Mayra. She asks him if he knows a woman named Esperanza. Ever nosy and helpful Cutieberto says Sure! And tells her where to find her.

The happy couple slowly walking by the pool in Cancun. She's had a great time and she thanks him. Professor Hottie says it's what she deserves. Now, she says, it's on to Europe! She's really looking forward to that! It makes all this nasty sleeping with Professor Hottie business barely tolerable. (Well, she doesn't say that.) They're talking about Paris and then Professor Hottie gets a phone call. It is important. Professor Hottie looks severe and turns to her. He's sorry, but they can't have their European vacation. They've got to return to Mexico now. Our little shark is very unhappy. You can tell she is thinking that she's been robbed of her just compensation for having to tolerate sleeping with him. Life is so unfair!

Our little shark is not happy at the news that Europe is a no-go.

Triunfo del Amor #128-129 5/26/11 A triumph of hot married sex

Fer gets a visit from Cruz, with the usual rose. He's told the whole vecindad they're getting married. And after that, they're moving into their own house. It won't be big, but as long as it's big enough to smooch in, who cares!

Vic justifies keeping the news about her cancer away from Os. Oh, please, quit asking her why she keeps stuff secret…have you learned nothing about your wife in all this time? Dr. Cesar just figured something was going on and he could torture the truth out of her with his velvet voice. Vic tells them her doctor is afraid the cancer will get to her lungs. She wanted to wait until after Fer's operation…well, ok, then, now it's time.

Leonela prays to God for help not to drink. She can't stand being locked up, though. It wigs her out. She doesn't know what to do. She reaches for the bottle, saying she only needs one glass. Riiiiight.

Fer agrees they should live alone. Cruz has a surprise too…his cousin's ranch, where they can have their badass rancho reception after there church wedding in an adjacent chapel.

Leo resists the bottle and says she's gotta get to a meeting, but she doesn't want to go to a meeting…"God, what do I do?" You go to a frickin' meeting is what you do! She just can't take it anymore. She runs out of the room, after hesitating at the door.

Dr. Cesar isn't an oncologist, nor does he play one on TV, but he'll call his old mentor to consult.

His old mentor will give them an appointment right this minute. And Fer isn't an excuse since she's busy sucking face with Cruz. Os thanks Dr. Cesar for getting Vic to fess up about the cancer. He thought bubbles a PSA about how we chicks need to quit being shy about those breast self-exams, damnit, and start catching these lumps in time and getting them checked out. I admit, I am lousy about doing them on a regular basis, but I will be celebrating my 35th with a baseline mammogram. Not on the actual day, since it's on a Sunday, but in the following week. Save the ta-ta's, people. Save. The. Ta-Ta's!

Some guy comes looking for Tomasa at the Sandoval house. No one's seen her back home and she didn't go join the rest of her family in Texas where they have a leetle beesness. He asks for the ah-dress of Señora Bernarda.

Gui has news for Leo about the theater. He says the production is all ready. Leo is excited about playing Desdemona. Gui hedges when she asks about the director and Leo suspects he's lying to her. She says she needs to get back on stage--the applause of the public is better than alcohol. Preaching to the choir, baby. Gui tells her not to worry about a thing and asks her to promise not to drink again.

Cousin Vicente is an old buddy of Erasmo, Tomasa's relative.

Milagros has given Poli and Trini dresses so the three of them can go on the same show as Cruz. It's the ladies' turn now.

Burnie prays. Eva says someone's looking for her. Darth Burnie does not like her meditation being interrupted! Eva says it's Tomasa's nephew and godson looking for her.

Burnie tells them to start talking and make it quick. She tells them Tomasa ran off without saying goodbye. Vicente's not buying it. Burnie tries to say she went to "El Norte" (the US) but Erasmo says he's Tomasa's only family member in El Norte. Whatever. Maybe she died and no one knew about it. Both guys have QTH faces on.

Milagros, Poli, and Trini are all dressed up and wigged for their TV debut. Milagros makes some bad puns about their figures.

Erasmo and Vicente are both ticked off at Burnie. Vicente vows to keep bugging her until they find Tomasa.

Os wants Vic to follow the doc's instructions with no excuses! And Fer's wedding is going to take some time to organize. She's got to recover. Toni and Pip can help with that and in the meantime, Vic can start her treatment. And the chemo won't be too strong, so she's not going to lose her hair. She'll do it, but she doesn't want Fer to know. Wouldn't be the Sandovals if someone wasn't keeping secrets.

Fer checks out of the hospital. Vic and Toni have long faces.

Vic goes into surgery. PJP gives her a blessing. The Nueva Casa Victoria team are all there to watch her get wheeled into surgery. Maria gives Vic a Virgen de Guadalupe medal.

Days later….

Vic is resting in bed. She thanks the Virgen.

Os brings Fer so they can all lie in bed with Mami. Vic recovering from surgery montage.

Pip comes to visit and he's way too exuberant. Oscar brings roses. Fabian and Luci bring a card or maybe a DVD.

Pip, Fer, and Vic talk wedding dresses/veils and laugh over fabric getting caught under the wheels of the wheelchair.

Os talks to Dr. Cesar and gets bad news, from the look on his face.

Os stalks Vic. He's spending the night in a chair by her bed. But since he brings breakfast, I guess that makes it ok. The doc apparently told Vic she's getting better? She feels better at least. She doesn't want Os watching over her from a chair all night. But Os insists. Vic suggests that after the wedding, they take that trip they've always talked about. Os says it will be like a second honeymoon. At her request, he holds her and tells her he loves her.

At the firehouse, the guys get a PSA about dumbasses flicking cigarette butts into the shrubbery and starting wildfires. They're about to meet a special team, but they get called to a fire instead. The team already on the scene looks like a bunch of punk chicks. The men are mortified.

The chicks are volunteer firefighters. They get an award back at the firehouse. The guys look grumpy about applauding for them.

At Milagros' place, Vicente and Napo talk about how proud they are. Maybe no one told them they were supposed to look happy in that scene?

Cruz has his head in the clouds. Napo herds Cruz off to bed. Mili babbles about the dresses she wants to wear for Cruz and JuanJo's weddings.

Aaaaaand, it's time for a wedding already. Fine, whatever. Alonso takes pictures. Os and Vic arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. I LOVE Vic's outfit. Max, Maria, and the two boys arrive in their own carriage. Cruz rides in on a horse. Fer arrives in her carriage and Cruz insists it's his job, from now on, to be the one helping her instead of Os. Fabian looks pouty. Cruz deposits Fer into her wheelchair. "When we get out of that church, we'll be man and wife and no one will ever separate us!" Cruz goes inside. Oh, shit! Padilla's outside with a sniper rifle! He thought bubbles to someone to enjoy their five minutes of happiness. Fausto saves the day with a stick to Padilla's head and takes the rifle away. The guests make their way into the church. Os brings Fer in and gives her away to Cruz, who says he lives to make Fer happy. PJP starts the proceedings.

Padilla wakes up from his conking and curses the "pollo rostizado" (roasted chicken). Fausto is up on a cliff and he throws the rifle off it and stands there gasping. Padilla rides off on a horse.

PJP gives his wedding sermon. We didn't see the padrinos del lazo, but the lazo is made of flowers. Love it! Fabian pouts as they exchange their vows. Toni was the madrina of the anillos (rings) and JuanJo was the padrino of the arras (coins). PJP does the pronouncing and Cruz and Fer get to smoochin'! He hands his hat off to Milagros so he can wheel Fer out of the church.

Vic and Os congratulate Fer. Max and Maria come over. Pip loved all the horses and carriages. Fabian congratulates Cruz. Pip nudges Oscar, who teases that he might be persuaded. He insists on making Toni's dress…well, duh! There's lots of chanting of "beso, beso" (kiss!) Mariana Fernandez sings from atop a bull while a few guys do rope tricks. She sings about how frickin' awesome it is to be Mexican. Then there's some bullfighting with a really small bull, which some of the ladies get in on. This is followed by line-dancing cowboy elves. Don't ask. Cruz sings a song for "La Señora de Robles." Finally, we get to hear him sing a different song! It's about how Fer's his gift from heaven.

More singing for Cruz and his cousin, who are having some trouble harmonizing on "Un Mundo Raro."

Señora Robles asks to dance, so Cruz picks her up. Damnit, man, you're making all the other husbands look like slouches! All our parejas (couples) are dancing.

Cruz and Fer head for their little love nest for their wedding night. The bed's all decked out with flowers. And Cruz and Fer enjoy their wedding night…y que bonito es lo bonito!

The next morning, Cruz brings Señora de Robles breakfast in bed. Fer would rather have kisses than breakfast. She is apparently insatiable, even after all the kisses of the night before. Yes, Cruz, you dubmass, she's happy! She finally admits to being hungry, so Cruz can serve her the breakfast he slaved over a hot stove to make.

Max goes to visit Leo. She's excited to see him. She's been sober…since the last time she saw him? She's grateful to them for clearing up the mess with the theater with Gui. Max has to break it to her that the thing with the theater is NOT cleared up.

Oscar comes to the house to talk to Os about the theater. He wants to discuss it in the office.

Back at the love cottage, Cruz brings Fer outside so they can sit on the doublewide rocker and drink their coffee and listen to the birds. They gulp down their coffee so they can hurry up and go for their first ride as a married couple.

Vic can't get Fer on the phone. The maid points out that it's sill to expect her to answer. Doc Cesar calls Vic and asks to see her. She agrees to see him in an hour.

Cruz and Fer enjoy their ride.

Fabian pouts. Seriously, Luci, ditch his ass and go get a real man! Instead, she attempts to kiss the dumbassery out of him. Oh, she luuuuuurves him. What. Ever.

Cruz and Fer get frisky in the woods.

Oscar expects a decision from the courts soon, but probably it will be in Os' favor. It could still be a long process, though, especially if Gui's lawyers appeal.

Gui tells someone over the phone to do whatever is necessary because they're opening soon. He thought bubbles that he can't keep his hold on Leonela.

Who is hitting the bottle again. She's cursing Osvaldo and Gui for being good-for-nothings. "They're both jealous of me! And you, Osvaldo, you want to destroy me again, but I won't let you!" She goes to tell him that to his face.

Vicente asks Fausto about Tomasa. Ummmmm, yeah, well, she'd already left when I got there, yeah. PJP overhears the conversation.

Padilla commiserates with Burnie about her own bump on the noggin. Padilla says it must have been one of her enemies. He blames Fausto, but Burnie says he's her "perro fiel" (faithful dog) who couldn't have done it. Padilla says that Fausto is faithful only to Maria Desamparada.

Max and Maria plan to take the kids to the park. Maria laughs about how the boys will be big 'ol womanizers like Max was before he met her.

Drunk!Leo gets into the Sandoval house and smacks the maid around. She gets all weepy with Os. She blames him for her drinking again. Vic comes downstairs and Leo spews some hate on her. She gets a slap across the face for her troubles, but not before she brings up Linda again. Vic gives Os a pissed off look.

Sweet William Levy in a Kayak! That's all for tonight.

Tomorrow: Fausto gets in trouble with Burnie; Vic gets lured to an undisclosed location by Padilla.
