La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo (LDVDEC) #18 5.31.17: A Confession of Love from a Coward with Bad Fashion Sense

• Having seen the gun, Ryan understands why Estela always said that her life depended on what was in the blue suitcase; he assumes she always her knew father’s lifestyle would catch up to her. Laustela notes the gun is new, and barely touch, before Ryan suggests she keep it, for protection. Laustela hesitates and Ryan reminds her that he already saw her handle a gun and knows she can use it. Laustela hopes she never has to use it.
• That night, Laustela and Ryan arrive home for a change of clothes. Ryan gives her the suitcase and asks her to hide the gun. Laustela nods, goes to Ryan’s room and looks for a place to hid it.
• Morgana finally finds Chavalin at the bakery, explains that she’s Laustela’s friend, and tells him that Paloma, Laustela’s daughter, had to go to the hospital. He asks if she’s okay and Morgana nods as Chavalin takes out his cell to call Laustela. Morgana stops him, reminds him she’s at the hospital, and asks how he is related to Laustela. Chavalin thinks it’s strange she doesn’t know, since Laustela sent her, but she looks untrustworthy either way so it could be that she’s not as friendly with Laustela as she originally told him. Morgana tells him to calm down, she just thought Laustela had no family, but he explains that he’s an uncle on Laustela’s mother side. He then asks Morgana to leave as he’s very busy and has to call his niece. Morgana nods, huffs and puffs, and hurries out.

La Piloto #61 5.30.17: In Which Yolanda is Back Where She Started...

• Monica walks to the shower and remembers when Joanna and her cohorts threatened her in the recreation yard. She then remembers when they beat her up in her cell and warned her not to fight back. She gets to the showers but finds no peace; Joanna and her cohorts are waiting to tease and berate her. Monica warns them to leave her alone but Joanna warns her to be careful and listen to all her instructions unless she wants her to cut off her tongue for insubordination. They leave her be while she showers.
• Vergara sends Yolanda, Lizbeth, Olivia, Wilmer and Estela to where Zulima is waiting for them. They are all happy to see her, and introduce Wilmer, before Vergara announces that Yolanda has decided to work for their organization and distribute drugs along the same routes as the Lucios. Estela is happy to hear it, as narcos make great money, and then asks about Rosalba and the baby. Vergara explains that they are safe in an undisclosed location, incubator and all. He then tells Yolanda that they need her to start ASAP and asks her what she needs. Yolanda tells him they need helicopters, a plane and an airstrip where they can land and take off. Vergara nods.
• Some time later, Vergara brings Yolanda a suitcase full of cash and tells her it’s her it’s her pocket cash. He then reminds her that nothing is free and this cash is more of a loan than a gift as they will deduct every red cent from her first paycheck. Yolanda nods and Vergara gives her the cell phones she asked for before reminding her that they are not to make personal calls and she should always remember that any stupidity on her part would only hurt her aunt and the baby, in that order. He then leaves them to work and Estela jumps at the money. She closes the suitcase and tells them that they must take care of it.

La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo (LDVDEC) #16 5.29.17: The Double Life of (Pretty Much Everyone but Paloma)

Memories are in italics.

• At Furia. Danilo warns Calao to be careful as his extracurricular activities almost got them in trouble with Ryan. Calao reiterates that it’s not his fault they sent him for Laustela but Danilo is happy after all because he now knows the real reason Laustela went back with Ryan: Calao’s threats. Calao smiles but shakes his head and denies having threatened Laustela. Danilo does remind him that he is his boss so if he falls, so does Calao.
• Ryan wants to know who hacked his medical file but Steve shakes his head. Ryan has no idea who would be interested, as only Mercy knew, and his lawyers went through great lengths to make sure his stint in the rehabilitation center wasn’t brought up in the trial. Ryan assumes it could be Pedro’s people, investigating his past to see how they can blackmail him, or it could have to do with Laustela’s threats. Steve is confused and frustrated as Ryan just told him he thought the threats were a lie.

La Candidata Lunes, 5/29/17 Chapter 1: Looking for Guilt

Foreword

After years of chronicling the lives of the rich and shameless I am still astonished at how similar they are no matter the country or culture. The newly rich like Eladio Gomez-Luna will buy their respectability through the silence and compliance of others. In the end he fell short of becoming another Gerald Bradley because the latter never fooled the set who regarded him as an interloper. In the end – if what I heard about his death was true – he was ultimately unable to fool himself. Since I no longer practice the faith of my upbringing I am done speculating on whether he is in Purgatory or elsewhere.

I have found new examples of the ultimate indulgences of such people. While there is no Coliseum or Circus Maximus in Mexico City the San Románs share some of the vices of certain historical personages echoed by their name. Only modern civil law and my profession have – thus far – held the line against the rise of a new Caligula or Nero. I am a latter-day Suetonius, telling tales of hypocrisy, corruption, and crimes that attempt to defy discovery and go without punishment. I present my tales to you, my elite readers, that you may judge these people for who they are.

Sit back and read at your leisure. At least our wine is better than that which was consumed by the Caesars.

La Piloto #59, 5-26-17: Bad Boys Brawl But Bad Broads Rule

Monica sits in her jail cell thinking back to how the state prosecutor doesn’t understand her, I.e., how she could have let herself bow to the demands of a couple of (insidious and predatory) redneck narcos anymore than she could ever understand DEADave’s’s rejecting her sexual advances.  (You mean besides Yolanda’s being a beautiful, brave and alluring bad girl?)

La doble vida de Estela Carrillo, # 15, Friday 05/26/15 Dumb and dumber make a fine couple, indeed

This is from memory (watched while cooking dinner), so sorry for any mistakes; I did a lot of editing, I combined scenes for better flow, stupid dialogues were ignored (almost everything having to do with the Threesome that nobody asked for, formed by LetMe, Eraser and Brujita).

Estela is waiting for Ryan at the restaurant, but he's a no show. She calls Furia and Genesis tells her that Ry forgot his phone at work because he left in a hurry - he needed to "save" someone. This worries Estela, she asks Genesis to search for the last call on Ryan's phone and give her the number. (Note to Ryan: password protect your phone, you silly idiot.)
She then calls said number and ends up at a rehabilitation clinic where a receptionist tells her that Mr. Cabrera has been checking in, without giving any further information.
Estela is impactada that Ryan would hide something this important from her and tells Chayo that she needs to further investigate. There is no way that she can tell him her own deep dark secrets as long as HE has deep dark secrets of his own.

So these two lovable fools already have a rocky relationship three days into their dating/ engagement (who would have guessed, with all the lying by omission, by mistake, on purpose, for the grater good etc etc..). When they meet back at the house, Ryan apologizes for standing her up at the restaurant, in the process making up a story about some business deal that he had to solve asap. Estela pretends to believe him, but decides to do some investigating into  Ryan Cabrera, Man of Many Secrets and ardent lover.

• In Asdrubal's office, Danilo isn’t sure if Laustela is gone for forever, because she left and came back three years ago, but if she does, he and Morgana would have had their own child by then and claimed the 20%. He does lament that Laustela left without sleeping with him but Asdrubal reminds him that Laustela needs to come back ASAP lest Ryan open up an investigation into her whereabouts. If he does, the police may investigate Furia and that would make El Dorado very unhappy. He instructs Danilo to think and make sure Laustela comes back so everything is calm.
• Laustela explains that everything is over between because she can’t continue to be Estela Carrillo, not with all the problems it has caused. Ryan proposes they find a solution but Laustela thinks the only solution is to be far away from him and start a new life. She asks Ryan to let her go, if he loves her, because she can’t be Estela but she can’t go back to Laura Oviedo, either. Ryan asks her to please tell him why not but Laustela shakes her head and asks that he not make things harder. Ryan can’t let her go, not knowing that she and her daughter are in danger, but Laustela asks him to leave her be. Ryan nods and hopes she realizes the mistake she’s making. Guerra de Ídolos has been relegated to Saturday nights, 9-11PM; Commenting has been understandably light since Telemundo, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to play fast & loose with the schedule. Your moderators, Juanita & LXV are as dismayed as anybody about the bad programming choices made recently by Telemundo. We want to encourage anybody watching any of the shows to post their thoughts about it--random comments, what they like, what they don't, whatever. It doesn't have to be a recap; it doesn't have to be long: your thoughts in a few sentences, just to keep the page alive during this drought. We'll even open the page up to La Fan watchers, who have indicated that part 2 is better tha part 1.

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.
