In the market, the
Gossip Girls are reporting to Luchita that Luci’s big, blonde, blue-eyed hubby
is in town, likely to take her back to D.F. This makes Luchita very happy, as
her rival for the affections of Don Aquiles will once again be out of reach.
The Gossip Girls leave to investigate some more.
In the Cultural Center
of Santa Lucia, Luci and Paz meet with the young woman who informed Luci about
winning the contest. She’s brought the final contract for Luci to read and
sign. Luci will receive a monthly payment (mensualidad) for a year, and they
will buy her pieces. Her pieces will be on sale/displayed in four different
cultural centers in the state. The first order (pedida) she has to fill is for
12 pieces. Luci and Paz are happy that Luci now has fixed work, and over the
moon when they are presented with Luci’s certificate for finishing first in the
contest. Paz is so proud (orgullosa/o) of her.
In the D.F. Aquatics
Center, we have another proud parent. Pato has finished with his therapy and
Max tells him how impressed he is by his tenacity. He’ll be here for him
whenever he can. Pato says it does him good to have Max there. He asks where
Rod is, but Max doesn’t know where Rod ran off to all of a sudden.
Well, Rod is cooling his
very hot jets at Magda’s dining table while she chops onions in the kitchen. He
thinks it’s best that he go wait somewhere else, since she’s so busy and Luci
is taking so long. He doesn’t want to be an inconvenience (inoportuno). Just
then, Ariche runs in and sees his amigo Rod. He jumps on a chair and into Rod’s
arms for a big hug. Ariche thinks Rod has come in his plane to take them all
back for his and Luci’s wedding. Rod avoids the subject and asks Ariche to take
a walk with him.
In D.F., Rosa is in depressed
mode today. She refuses to rise from bed; she refuses to eat; she doesn’t want
to see anyone; she doesn’t want to talk to anyone. Mati tells her she’s wasting
her life and the love of all the people who care for her—her sister and kids.
Mati tells her she should follow Connie’s example, who is having a fine time
boinking Oscar (we hope) right this minute. Debbie Downer Rosa says Oscar is
just going to dump Connie for a younger model. Mati tells her it’s important to
live in the here and now. “Come on. Make yourself pretty for your kids and
husband. Let them see you content and happy.” Mati goes to get Rosa a fabulous
outfit that will dazzle her man and kids. Rosa needs some sun and fresh air.
Rosa doesn’t look convinced and remains tightly curled in the fetal position.
Ofelia has decided to
make herself useful on her first day back. She’s going to the market for her
mama Estelita to get everything Estelita and the boys need for their taco
business. Marianita, not taking her eyes off her mama for a moment, decides to
go with her. She’s one happy little camper.
Lorenzo and Fabian’s
harem of domestic workers has grown substantially. The girls may be asking for
beef tacos, but what they really want is beefcake. The boys serve up their
tacos with a large side of flirtation. The maids head back to work, but the real
queen of Lorenzo’s heart arrives. Unfortunately, Hannah has brought her
boyfriend Boris along too. Lorenzo offers Boris a taco, and Fabian keeps him
busy trying to put out the fire in his mouth caused by an extra helping of
extra hot sauce, while Lorenzo chats with Hannah. They agree to the boys
bringing enough food to make 100 tacos (for 20 people) to the special Sunday
meal Hannah is planning. Lorenzo refuses to accept an advance (adelanto) and
will only accept payment once he’s delivered the tacos to the Torreslanda door.
Ariche and Rod catch up.
Ariche is up to his usual—school, flute, slingshot, junior lawyer, personal
bodyguard to damsels in distress, man about town, etc. He suggests that Rod
call Luci on her new cell phone if he’s trying to reach her—the one LICENCIADO CLAUDIO
LINARES gave her. This gives Rod pause, but he avoids turning into the Hulk and
hitting things this time. The two continue to chat, joke and bond.
In Santa Lucia, Luci has
promised to get working on her 12 pieces right away and wants to know what
happened to her other pieces. The cultural center girl shows her two of her
pieces, featuring butterfly designs, which are on display at the center. Paz is
beside herself with pride.
At Vio’s place, Vio and
Serena are lamenting the late work hours and are just about to fix some breakfast/lunch
(brunch?), when there is a welcome knock on the door. It’s the wonderful Polo
(open your eyes Vio!), who has brought them a feast. Serena says he fell from
heaven! Polo asks what Rod wanted last night. Vio is less than impressed that
he’s just now trying to fix things with Luci—just like a man! Polo looks mighty
offended to be lumped into this stereotype of male stupidity, but says nothing
about Vio’s female stupidity, just like the gentleman he is.
In Casa Torreslanda,
Mati must have snuck some happy pills into Rosa’s tea, because she’s dressed in
a knockout form fitting, violet dress that makes her eyes pop (in a good way,
not her usual crazy way), and she’s bubbly and happy as she greets Pato and
Max. Pato is the first to note how great she looks, and Max continues with the
compliments. He says she looks beautiful (preciosa). She says she dressed to go
out and invites her two guys out to eat. Pato was tired, but seeing Rosa
looking so good and happy has motivated him to go out again. Lurch, aka
Frigida, lurks in the background.
Rod and Ariche continue
their man-to-man talk on the streets of Het Het. Rod tells Ariche that he can
call him whenever he wants. Ariche is worried they won’t still be friends when
Rod leaves. Rod assures him that they’ll always be friends and gives him a hug
and kiss.
The Gossip Girls give
Don Aquiles the unhappy news that Luci’s man is back in town. He doesn’t
believe them and throws them out. At Magda’s, Paz and Luci have come back home.
Before Magda can give Luci any warning, Ariche comes racing in to say that Rod
is here, and Rod’s head immediately peeks around the corner of the door. Luci’s
eyes say, “What the hell are you doing here?”; Rod’s eyes say, “Please, please,
please don’t throw me out.” He says he’s come to speak to her, then politely
asks Paz how she is. Paz’ eyes are saying the same thing as Luci’s. Rod and
Luci leave to speak, and Cupid Ariche tries to rush after them. Paz barely
catches him and tells him Luci and Rod have grown folks things to discuss. Ariche
doesn’t want Rod and Luci to get mad at each other. Rod is his friend.
Frigida calls Julie to
confirm their info exchange meeting, where the black bag will be present and
ready for a deposit. Julie looks like she’s sporting a major hangover. (What
did she and Carola do with that guy the night before anyway?...) Of course she
has a mimosa on hand to help nurse said hangover.
Connie and Oscar have
finally arrived at their hacienda weekend retreat. The front reception area
opens up to a spectacular view of the mountains. They get smoochy and handsy at
the reception desk, but Oscar has reserved TWO rooms-- #14 and #16. (What a
waste!) They agree to meet in an hour after Connie has had a chance to rest (I
assume because she won’t be sleeping much that night).
Gala is back from
Colombia and ready to continue scheming her hostile takeover of Rod. Fernanda
and Valentina arrive; they apparently have nothing better to do on a Saturday
afternoon (no wonder they haven’t gotten their boyfriends to walk them down the
aisle yet). Gala wants them to spend the afternoon planning a fake celebration/get
together to dupe Rod into attending. No, Rod didn’t call her, but she’s not
going to become desperate (honey, you crossed that line a LONG time ago). She’s
sure that he will start missing her soon and remembering how good they were
together. Fernanda thinks they can dupe Marcos and Gabe into getting them all
together to watch soccer that very day—it has to be in Rod’s apartment, of
course. She calls Marcos, who is already happily watching a game in his own
apartment, cradling a bowl of chips. (Once again, I point out that he’d rather
be doing that, then spending time with his girlfriend on his day off.) He
easily agrees to call Gabe and Rod up so that they can all watch the games
together.
Rod, meanwhile, is strolling
through the streets of Het Het with Luci. He brings up the contest and
congratulates her. She gives polite but terse responses. Then he tells her that
he went to Inferno, spoke with Vio, and got confirmation that she only worked
there one night, never wanted to do it, and was forced to work as a waitress.
L: And Violeta had to tell you in order for you to believe me? That’s why you came? Because you’re wasting your time, Rodrigo. You shouldn’t have bothered to come all the way here for something that is no longer important to anyone.

and he runs after her, grabbing her arm and spinning her around to face him.)
R: I came here to ask that you return with me; that we start anew. I want you to know that I still love you, and that everything that has to do with you is important to me.
L: Return with you? And the offenses? And the humiliations? And YOUR distrust? You and I are no longer anything (to each other).
R: With what ease you say these things.
L: With the same ease with which you ended our love; my dreams/illusions; my life.
R: Don’t pin the blame solely on me! Admit that you also failed me Luciana!

R: Then HOW?! I need to hear it from you! Tell me! I have every right to know!

R: Please Luciana. I didn’t come here to fight with you. I came to take you back with me; so that we can continue with our plans.
L: Plans? What plans Rod? Between you and me there no longer exist plans!
R: Even before Vio told me the truth, I already realized that I made a mistake. I offer you an apology. Please come with me to the capital. Let’s go.
L: I told you the truth, and you didn’t listen to me. You didn’t listen to me!
R: Well, forgive me! Everything pointed to your guilt in that moment. Why didn’t you tell me everything from the beginning? You never intended to tell me anything?!
L: Because I was afraid. Mati insisted that I tell you, but...
R: So you told HER!? And you talk to me about trust! You didn’t trust me Luciana!

(Ooh! He has a point
there. Now Luci is losing steam and starts to cry.)
L: Because I was afraid. I was afraid you’d react as you did.
R: If you had clarified things from the very beginning, things would have been different!
L: You didn’t listen to me!!! Stop getting on my case!
R: No, I can’t. YOU didn’t fight for our love! You’re the one who initiated (promover) the divorce.

(Luci is as stunned as
we are that Rod is making sense, after weeks and weeks of sounding like an
idiot.)
Procopio falls back into
his old bad habits (and old clothes) and confirms to Aquiles that Luci is
strolling around town with her Adonis city boy hubby.
Gala is counting her
nimrods before they hatch, and celebrating the post-soccer nookie she is sure
she’ll be having with Rod later. Marcos calls Fernie back and informs her that
Rod is MIA. Gala soon knows where he disappeared to when Aquiles calls her to
complain that Rod is swanning around town with his little dove.
Back on the streets of
Het Het, Rod has moved beyond anger and has gone right back to begging Luci to
forgive him. Luci reminds him that he’s the one who said they were through.
R: But I never said I wanted to get divorced.
L: Then what the hell do you want, since YOU don’t trust me!?
R: Was that the reason? Or is there something else that you don’t dare tell me? Like this strange influence that Claudio Linares has over you.
L: What are you trying to say?! Tell me!
R: You heard me! You let him bring you here, up to the front door of your home. You accepted a cell phone from him, like it was nothing. Do you think I’m stupid?!! (YES!!! Yes we do Rod!) Admit that he influenced you to separate us and divorce us! Admit that you have a relationship with him!!
L: Don’t say stupid things!!! You don’t know what you’re saying!
R: Well, then you tell me! I’m sure it will prove me right. You decided to get involved with my father’s/family’s number one enemy. Why don’t you admit that you have a relationship with him?! He could be your father for God’s sake!!!
L: SHUT UP!!!!! (Yes, please shut up Rod, before you dig yourself in deeper.) You don’t know what you’re saying!...
R: But I never said I wanted to get divorced.
L: Then what the hell do you want, since YOU don’t trust me!?

Before Luci can clarify
anything, Don Aquiles arrives to make a pest of himself. He and Rod do some
chest thumping. Aquiles doesn’t like anyone mistreating his Palomita like that;
treat her like a lady, dammit! Eventually Rod prevails by proclaiming Luci is
HIS WIFE. The Gossip Girls lurk behind a corner.
At the Country Club, the
Prozac Mati slipped into Rosa’s tea is still working and she is having a
pleasant lunch with Max and Pato. Max thanks her for allowing them to relive
old times, and Pato thanks them both for getting him out of the house (but
really he’s thanking them for acting like they actually like each other).
Rosa’s all about a united family front. One of the club ladies, who are always
out to jump Max’s lonely bones, comes over to express her surprise at seeing Rosa
there with her man, and Pato too. Pato can smell the Chanel scented b.s. from a
mile away. Max fiddles with his wedding ring nervously. Rosa chooses to remain in her Prozac induced Lala Land.
Luci wants to know why
Rod is still crowing about her being his wife, when they are nothing to each
other now. Rod doesn’t think this is so. Luci points out that they are
divorced, but Rod doesn’t know how to divorce his heart and thoughts from her.
He plants a passionate kiss on her while holding her face. She’s swept up and
away in the kiss, and soon his arms circle her waist as he pulls her closer to
him. She half fights it, but she is fully participating. I hope the Gossip
Girls stuck around because Rod and Luci are giving Het Het quite a show! They
stop kissing, but they are nose to nose/forehead to forehead, and he’s cradling
her face once again. He’s begging, pleading, crying. Their tone of voice has
turned tender. Luci’s crying too, but she won’t/can’t give herself over to him.
She says she can’t because she doesn’t trust him anymore. She gently touches
his face and his hands, then turns and runs away. Rod calls after her, but he
knows it’s a lost cause. He crumples against a nearby doorway in tears and
pounds on the door.
Speaking of lost
causes…Gala is PISSED that Rod has gone after that domestica (drink!). She
abuses her cell phone. Julie comes home and lays the blame on Gala for taking
her eyes off the prize (Rod) and going on that trip. “Cállate!”
Oscar will definitely
have more luck than Rod today. Connie joins him on the patio of the hacienda
for canoodling, smooches, and drinks. He suggests they spend the afternoon
chilling and chatting, and then he’ll take her someplace spectacular for
dinner. He has her try his drink; she likes it and says she wants one. “You
want one, huh? Here, you have it.” He gives her a smooch- “Sabes que me
encantas.” Yeah, Oscar is definitely getting some tonight.
Julie lunches with Lurch.
She spells things out for Frigida. The “chacha” is now at the same social level
as the Torreslandas and therefore poses a greater threat. If Rod finds out,
he’ll most likely go looking for her to bring her back. “We can’t let that
happen, can we? If Luci comes back to the house as a Linares, the first thing
she’s going to do is fire you.” This gets Frigida’s attention. Frigida needs to
tell her absolutely EVERYTHING that’s going on in that house.
Well, Frigida is missing
some primo gossip on the current goings-on at Casa Torreslanda. Prozac Rosa,
Max and Pato have returned, and want to continue playing happy families by
watching a movie together. Can you just imagine the three of them snuggled
under a blanket in the bed, watching their latest Netflix dvd, and eating
popcorn? Nope, I can’t either! Anyway, Rosa’s phone rings and Gala nearly ruins
the effects of Mati’s magic tea by telling Rosa that Rod is in Het Het with
Luci. She manages to hold it together enough to seem calm when Pato says he
hopes Rod and Luci have reconciled. After Pato leaves, Max spells out the real
danger—that Rod now knows Luci is Claudio’s
and Rosa’s role in it all.
Luci updates Paz and
Magda on her conversation with Rod. He wants them to get back together; he
can’t tear (arrancar) her memory from his mind/heart; and if they love each
other, he wonders why they can’t be together. Magda agrees with this and thinks
Luci should have grabbed him, kissed him and made him stay! “It’s what I most
wanted, but I couldn’t. He offended me again. He demanded that I admit to his
face that I have a relationship with CL. That this was the reason why I
divorced him. And how could I be capable of something like that when CL could
be my father.” Paz wants to know why the
heck Luci didn’t tell Rod that CL IS her father! “That’s what I was going to do Ama, but then…”
Luci doesn’t finish her
sentence because she has another major dizzy spell. Paz keeps her from falling
as Magda grabs a chair for her. Paz begs Luci to breathe. Luci says she was
getting dizzy (estaba mareando), but she’s fine now. Paz makes Luci look her in
the eyes. “Oh my God! Oh my, Luciana! You’re pregnant, daughter!”
I had a good laugh at this final scene because
my mom also says you can tell a woman is pregnant by looking in her eyes. Some
Jamaican old wives tale. My mom and Paz can’t both be wrong! LOL! Anyway, found
this info on dizziness and/or fainting as a pregnancy symptom: “When standing
in one place, you may feel dizzy or even faint. The growing uterus compresses
major arteries in your legs, which causes your blood pressure to drop and make
you extremely light-headed. Skipping meals or going too long without eating may
cause you to feel dizzy or faint. When not eating frequently enough, it causes
low blood sugar. Blood sugar is the primary source of food for your baby, so it
will be depleted much more quickly.” So basically, Luci and our other tn
heroines just need to EAT!
Whew!! That was quite the argument between Rod and Luci (and quite the kiss too). I thought it was good though. They cleared up a lot of things and got a lot off their chests. I think that things could have ended well, had Rod not thrown out those crazy, jealous accusations about Luci being *involved* with Claudio. Doh!
ReplyDeleteI'll be busy most of the day tomorrow, so I'll miss most of the comments until later in the day. I'll be chomping at the bit to read what most of you thought about the argument/near reconciliation.
Vivi thanks so much for the great, great recap, wonderful as always. I loved the agruement/near reconcilation. I liked that Rod seems to be asking the right questions, but it really is kind of late. He should have thought of them way before now. Luci is as stubborn as Rod is. He is still DEAD TO ME, but he is starting to slowing come ALIVE for me a little.
ReplyDeleteI loved that Gala got the news of Rod being with Luci in Het Het, even though I can't stand the fact Don A called her. He should have stayed out of it. And Copio, no more Don Copio from me. I also can't beleived he carried the gossip to Don A.
Loved Luci's excitment about her new job and those beautiful pots being on display. Luci is quite the artist.
Oh, I also hate the fact Rod thinks there is something somthing going on with Claudio. Wait till he finds out the truth. It will be like Romeo and Juliet.
I like your little blurb at the end about the pregnancy. I had never heard of it. When I was pregnant I never got dizzy, just naseous all the time, for like six months till it finally stopped. I wonder what it is about the eyes they see? Are the pupils like dilated or something? Just curious.
Agree with you about Vio and Polo. She needs to wake up and see what a fine young man Polo is, right in front of her eyes, already!
Too funny about Julie and Frigid, especially when she missed the gossip of Rod being in Het Het, cause she was getting a payout for that purse, lol.
Loving Conny and Oscar. I think you are right about them doing it. They are a really great couple. So romantic, and I think Rosa is wrong about them. I don't think he would ever dump Conny for a younger model, but I think they will have trouble if Oscar finds out Conny knew about the baby napping.
Thanks for your recap Vivi. I also enjoyed the vocab and narrative zingers like "but really (Pato’s) thanking them for acting like they actually like each other."
ReplyDeleteDisclaimer - since I don't think I'll ever want Luci/Rod back together (b/c of his Nimrodness), a part of me was kind of meh about their talk. It was quite passionate and Rod, who would have thunk it, actually made sense w/his arguments. And as Madelaine notes, yes Luci is being stubborn but Rod hasn't changed. There is nothing to stop the witches from trying to put her in that situation again w/Rod playing the same role as her accuser. Moreover, his stupidity about Claudio just confirmed that he still does not trust her. He may love her but its an immature and most physical love that isn't up for real relationship challenges.
Speaking of stupid, poor Vio keeps looking for her príncipe azul and he's right there. I hope she realizes this soon b/c I'm not keen on stalker-married guy.
I hope Connie and Oscar have turned their cell phones off and enjoy their weekend. And yes Mads, they most likely will have trouble if/when he finds out Connie knew about the baby swap.
Hey Mads and Karen! Thanks for being the firsts to comment.
ReplyDeleteSo, you guys still aren't won over by NimRod? LOL! Yeah, he still has a LONG way to go. But he made some baby steps forward tonight, and also took some giant leaps back. He still doesn't understand the person Luci is if he thinks she's using CL as a sugar daddy. And she has every reason to not trust him, as she admitted. Can't have a relationship without trust. These two have to build it back up.
I also hope that Connie and Oscar have shut down their cell phones. It would be just like Rosa to call her and demand she come back to help her deal with Rod going to see Luci and possibly finding out the truth.
Madelaine- Don't know what exactly the deal is with the eyes. I'll have to ask my mom. It's all just wives tales really, same as seeing the preganancy "glow." And perhaps American women never get the dizzy spells because we are constantly told to eat for two when pregnant. I think our problems have more to do with overeating during pregnancy than the oposite.
gala, party of one? if only she can see how sad she looks planning her trap for rod, while he's at luci's town begging her to get back with him.
ReplyDeleteyep that was some argument/conversation between the leads. not sure if luci's pride here & not telling him about her real dad is a good thing or not. I don't care for rod but she obviously loves him.not saying to exactly welcome him with open arms after everything that happened, but maybe meeting him halfway there? if someone is the love of your life(as they believe), wouldn't you want them close. think the concept of dating shoudl be introduced to them. of course silly me, trying to make sense of love in a tn hahaha
loved your recap vivi, esp the paragraph about the 'harem of domestic workers', too funny! and 'Ariche is up to his usual—school, flute, slingshot, junior lawyer, personal bodyguard to damsels in distress, man about town, etc.', such a cool kid
jlk
& totally agree with yall about vio & polo. wonder whats going to finally open her eyes.
ReplyDeleteI have a question, is there suppose to be an age difference between connie and oscar? I know that rosa has said that oscar is going to leave connie for someone younger, blah blah blah, but did she also criticize their age difference or something? I think they look great, and are super cute together, never noticed if there was suppose to be a difference
jlk
Hey jlk- Yes, there are a few years age difference between Connie and Oscar. I don't think there are THAT many, but Rosa is adhering to the old fashioned double standard and doesn't think it's right for her sister to date a younger man. Frankly, even if Oscar were the same age, I still think Rosa would criticize Connie. She'd probably say something like "a divorced woman should remain single and only dedicate herself to her kids." Notice that NO ONE else mentions or cares about the age difference.
ReplyDeleteI think Luci did intend to tell Rod that Claudio is her dad, but kept getting interrupted and kept getting more enraged the more Rod provoked her. But that's also a REALLY complicated truth to reveal, as it would open up the whole can of worms about Rosa. I really don't think Luci wants to hurt Rod and his siblings by revelaing this truth about their mama.
Excellent, Vivi.
ReplyDeleteAriche is a cool kid -- that's a big statement from me, too.
Rod still has his head in the wrong place; he should have reacted to Don A referring to Luci as his palomita.
Quick question(s) and pardon my naïveté. I just started reading the review on Caray Caray.
ReplyDelete1) What does the term "Het Het" mean. I realize it's Where Paz, Achilles & Madga reside. But thought it was called San Francisco El Alto.
2). What does D.F. Stand for? In the TN they refer to where the Torreslandas, Violeta, Lorenzo & Estelita as the Capital. But just confused for the lack of understanding of these review references.
Thank you!
Anon 1:51: Het Het is a name our blog Mom, Melinama came up with, it means way in the back of beyond, in other words way back in the sticks. She used it in one of her posts and it stuck.
ReplyDeleteD.F. means Districto Federale in other words Mexico City. We use the shortened version D.F. here.
Vivi, you're the best in getting the whole Dumbass and Luci conversation down. I was half expecting Luci to do a faint job as excited as she was getting. As for Dumbo, I sort of understand where he's coming from, but still don't love the way he manhandles Luci. Little gentleness would go a long way in trying to talk things out. These two just feel like oil and water to me all the time.
ReplyDeleteNow Dumbass could take a few lessons from Oscar, Mr Sauve. How cute he reserved two rooms. I found that endearing...sent a great message to Connie that he just wanted to be with her, would not do anything she didn't want to, wasn't pushing anything. What a guy...he needs to be packaged or cloned.
Rosa knocked it out of the park in that purple dress--wow. Even I was impressed, but she is down-right scary when she turns on that I'm Happy in Lalaland routine. Couple of those looks from Pato seemed to say the same thing.
Always fun to see some air come out of Gala's over-inflated ego. And Julie with a hangover--didn't think she was capable of one since she never seems to stop drinking long enough to get one. That woman has champagne bubbles in her bloodstream.
Ok, we have a pregnant Luci who told her ex to get lost. Pato, get yourself to Het Het fast!
Hey Anon! Please comment more often. Yes, you'll also ofter hear characters say D.F. to refer to Mexcio City (just like we say D.C.); you'll also hear them just say Mexico (like we say Washington), which can be confusing when they say something like "I'm going to Mexico" when they're already in the country.
ReplyDeleteDaisy- Rod was a tiny bit more gentle this time, but he just doesn't know how to stay in that mode when he gets upset or things don't go his way. He would have so much more success with Luci if he could manage to keep his cool, and oh yeah, not accuse her of things like having an affair with her father! The thing is, even before she knew she was CL's daughter, that accusation would have still been wrong, off base, and offensive to Luci and she would have gotten just as mad.
ReplyDeleteSo I don't mind so much that Luci didn't clarify things. She and CL had a father-daughter relationship long before they knew that's what they truly were. Rod needs to learn to trust her. Period.
Urban- I don't know if it clicked in his mind that Aquiles is the man Gala/Julie/Rosa accused Luci of having a thing with in her pueblo. He certainly didn't give Luci a chance to sit down with him and tell the whole long story, like she did with his siblings and cousin after all heck broke loose. I guess he figured staking his claim and saying Luci is his wife was enough to scare the old bugger off.
Vivi, stellar. Simply stellar. This was amazing from start to finish. Your choice of words convey every thought and action perfectly: "Magda shrugs and gives a non-committal “Make yourself at home". So many other exceptional lines but "Rod is cooling his very hot jets" and "Lorenzo and Fabian’s harem of domestic workers has grown substantially" made me laugh out loud in great appreciation.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the comments that Rod is making progress but sadly, his immaturity and jealousy are preventing him from making real strides. Luci should have told Rod but she did nothing wrong. He didn't listen to her and what he managed to hear, he didn't believe. He broke down but Luci has cried a river of tears over him.
Have a 7:30 meeting so have to run but Vivi, have to mention that the conversation translations were great and very much appreciated. You rock!!
Diana
Best recap ever!
ReplyDeleteYes, Rod is stupid. All the fainting spells that Luci is having is probably the lead paint she's using in her pottery barn.
Shocked that Julie hasn't shown up to rain on Connie and Oscar's parade. Didn't Oscar give Connie a fake name at there luv shack: Ines White or something like that.
Probably Luci doesn't want to be around Rod anymore because these anger spells may make his head explode and she doesn't want to be in the splash zone.
Bet those tacos are really, really good. Carna esada in the mini masa with cilantro and onion slivers. Oh yea!
Love Don A, Archie, Luchita and all the Het Het locas.
Awesome as usual. Thanks Vivi. This is what makes this TN so great. It's Very relatable. Luci unlike Gala was not desperate when she married "dead to me " and so for her trust is a vital part of the relationship. She may still be very much in love with drift wood here but can she trust her heart to him? I would think not. Even if she agreed to go back with him, how was going to handle the other witches in his life? She Made the right call.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when Pas looked into her daughter's eyes and predicted pregnancy. My grandmother used the same method and was always 99.9% right.
Olive
Anon: "Shocked that Julie hasn't shown up to rain on Connie and Oscar's parade" Yes! I meant to mention that early this morning.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking some "emergency" will come up, forcing Connie to leave. I would not put it past Julie for a second should that occur to sneak into Oscar's room and be "waiting". No spoiler - just a hunch Julie will insinuate herself somehow. Ack.
Diana
Rain, how about a deluge!
ReplyDeleteI want to see Oscar and Connie go for it. Whatever their age difference it isn't ridiculous and Connie needs to show her sister what for!
And what a gentleman he was, getting two rooms. Even if he has no intention of using them, separately at least. I don't know how Connie kept from jumping on that guy, he was so dang cute. And every man who uses that gel stuff needs to take a good look at Oscar, because THIS is hair we could run our fingers through.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to hear Ariche mention school though. I was wondering if he did anything besides wander. Can he add "marriage counselor" to his list of duties? Because that may be the only way these two come back together as stubborn as they both are.
Kelly
Kelly and UA- I do like the kids in this TN too, especially Ariche. He is the best kid I have ever seen in a TN. He is so smart for being so little and we can add marriage counselor to his list of duties, Kelly. He does try to get them together, but that never seems to work.
ReplyDeleteVivi...you write so well. And your transitions from scene to scene, paragraph to paragraph are so well chosen. You are a pleasure to read.
ReplyDeleteI particularly appreciate the time you spent on the passionate encounter between Rod and Luciana. So much yearning and longing, yet so much fear and distrust! Powerful scene. Romantic that I am, I kept saying, C'mon, Luci, forgive the big lug and do yourselves both a favor! Alas, too soon for that.
I think Oscar reserved two rooms at Connie's request after the Roselena tear down. Remember when she said she "needed to talk to him before they went". I think separate rooms were requested then. But I'm quite sure, like you, that they'll end up in the same room.
I love the way he says her name. And how he loves the look in her eye, but also her legs etc.! This guy can do no wrong.
And neither can you. Just a beautifully written recap. Gracias, my talented friend.
Well, I can honestly say I am much weaker than Luci. If that man had grabbed me and kissed me like that - my pride would have vanished to hide where ever Vickys pride hides. That was a smokin' scene. And Rod made some valid points. I'm afraid her pride will cost her - I just can't take it!
ReplyDeleteHe should know Luci doesn't have interest or a relationship with CL, but I don't blame him for thinking CL has intentions with Luci. We have the benefit of knowing the truth, but all Rod knows is the family enemy is being overly nice to sweet, young Luci.
So we now know that Luci is pregnant - I wonder how long before Rod finds out? Which scene will be better - finding out she is pregnant or that CL is her father?
First, I don't want to forget to say THANK-YOU Vivi for your great recap.
ReplyDeleteSecond---I don't think that it will help Luci very much if she tells NimRod the truth about Claudio because---when Claudio files his upcomming lawsuit against the Torreslandas or the family business, NimRod will come unglued and probably fly into another fit of rage and somehow, I don't know how, in his mind it will be Lucie's fault as he might think that she encouraged it.
Thanks Vivi as usual you filled in all the parts that fell between the cracks for me.
ReplyDeleteOK I was stunned by the ending I have never in my life heard that Oh Look At Your Pregnant Eyes thing!!
I LOVE the Connie & Oscar subplot -- they are my fave couple! I really gasped the day Rosa did her "mira tu cuerpo Connie el espejo no miente" thing....WOW!! Who would say that? WHO WHO WHO?? Why Rosa of course...
I had no doubt that Luci was pregnant -- as is Gala and Vio too probably because in my experience nobody has sex in a novela without getting pregnant immediately.
OK I'm the biggest geek but my daughter & I have been following the cast's twitter pages. They are really interesting. Actress who plays Vicky seems like a doll (is trying to give away some rescued kittens, but only to someone who will care for them!) and it turns out her dad is Japanese & she has cute pix of her with all her little japanese cousins. Also a cute surprise, Aldo & Melissa madly in love and constantly posting smoochy tweets to each other such as "happy four month anniversary" and "el mejor novio del mundo!!" They seem to have lots of Connie & Oscar type weekends at cool places in MX and post photos. CUTE COUPLE!
Can I tell you, if I were Paz I would be reluctant for my daughter to be involved in that fam b/c BOTH THE PARENTS ARE COMPLETELY INSANE. I mean Max is total Doc Jeckyl & Senor Hyde what with kidnapping Vicky and handcuffing her to the bed and leaving her for hours, excuse me?
ReplyDeleteAs for Rosa anybody else wondering about her brain scans and stuff? I kind of think it will turn out she has a brain tumor that's been making her act insane for 20 years and maybe she will get an operation on Boe-Stone or somewhere, she will be fully made up during this operation and when she wakes up she will be sorry for everything?
I just don't see any happy ending involving this Torreslanda clan the way these 2 parents are, they're both total psychos!
Vivi--I have to say it again, your recaps are the best part of this telenovela--especially the convos. They go by so fast and rewinding doesn't help. Glad your ears are better than mine.
ReplyDeleteWell, there were some suprises in last night's episode.
1. It's too early for a permanent make-up for *drift wood* (thank you, Olive, it's perfect) and Luci. The writers don't seem to be disposed to treat us to all the silly stuff of multiple breakups and makeups (at least I hope not and that's the surprise).
2. Luci stood her ground. Rod stood his ground. They both enjoyed that kiss. If he hadn't been so rough with her, physically, she might have lowered her guard a bit. Glad she didn't. That was a surprise.
3. Roselena putting on a happy face to go with that knockout dress was a surprise. Both the actress and the character can react with extremes of emotion that constantly surprise me. From fetal position to femme fatale! That was a surprise.
3. Conny and Oscar--best of luck to both of them. He's taking his time and doing the wooing just right. I hope Conny isn't too much of a schmuck to take her sister's consejos to bed with Oscar. She needs to let loose, but I think she is ready to do that, hang what Rosa says. We'll see if she surprises us. BTW, she looked fantastic in the car.
4. Gala and the biddies. The biddies need to quit enabling Gala. Her mother is doing a great job all by herself. Well, no surprises there.
5. Fridgidaire surely hopes the gossip never runs out or her purse won't fill up. She's the one who is going to be surprised with what comes next. Will she be the one to tell Dumb and Dumber about Rod's heredero or will they tell her?
6. What purpose does Ofelia's return serve? That was a surprise to me. Maybe to help with the taco business. They can really get ahead doubling the number they can make. And what was Estelita living on all this time? She always seemed to be at home.
7. Don A is still Don A. As long as he isn't hurting anyone, his bombast is very entertaining. So, keep surprising us, Don A.
Anita
Thanks for the great comments everyone. Seems most here think that Luci was right to stay strong (even if stubbornness has a lot to do with it), but a few of us here would have gone weak in the knees and jumped Rod's bones (as Magda suggested) after that kiss. That's fair. It was a very passionate kiss! And yes, they both did enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteOlive- Interesting to hear that your abuela also goes with the eyes method for detecting pregnancy. I wonder where it originates?
Anita- Isn't it wonderful to have a heroine who not only has convictions, but also sticks to them.
Glad to know I'm not the only one rooting for Oscar to get lucky tonight. :) Go Oscar, go!
Katie- Gosh, I really hope Vio is NOT pregnant. She does not need that complication in her life, and Marcial creeps me out. It would serve NimRod right if Gala ends up pregnant or pretending to be. Idiot.
Anita- Estelita is the caretaker of the apartment building. We have seen other tns where someone has this job (Teresa was the last one). It's not quite the equivalent of being a landlady, in that she's not usually responsible for chucking people out. But she does report to the owner and keeps an eye on things. This usually comes with at least free rent, if not also a salary. When she joined the boys in the biz she said she'd invest her bit of savings in getting them started. I also assume that with Marianita now living with her, she's paying more for food and other expenses. Ofelia living with them will also increase those expenses, so the taco biz will be useful. I'm sure Marianita also has school fees and such.
ReplyDeleteOK I consider myself somewhat of a street taco expert having partaken of hundreds of tacos from vendors here in LA and San Diego and Tijuana and Ensenada too....what UP with the COLD tacos sitting around in a basket??
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such a thing! You have to have some kind of hotplate going on even if it's plugged in to the cigarette lighter of the truck or some scary beat up gas tank or charcoal hibachi...
Is that how things are done in La Capital??
PS I agree that it is GREAT that Luci is not taking Rod's BS. He promised to protect her and yet he gave her no chance to explain KNOWING his mom & Gala had it out for her from day 1. Now he had the nerve to demand explanations re: Claudio L. She doesn't have to explain anything to him although the baby will complicate matters in regard to her independence. She probably will not tell him but that is one secret a mom shouldn't keep from a dad IMO.
ReplyDeleteKatie- Yep. That's exactly how it's done. Tacos de canasta (tacos in a basket). Check this out:
ReplyDeletehttp://goodfoodmexicocity.blogspot.com/2010/11/tisket-tasket-tacos-de-canasta.html
And this: http://www.renayork.com/2010/12/los-tradicionales-tacos-de-canasta-del-guero-americanista/
This is the description of tacos de canasta, in case you don't feel like going to the links: "They are simply tortillas filled with either frijoles refritos, adobo (a mole-like paste), potatoes, chicharrón (pork skin) or meat-less mole verde, folded over and quickly heated. They’re then packed sardine-like in a basket lined with cloth and brought to market on foot in a little cart, or sometimes by bicyle. Snuggled together, they keep warm, continuing to steam, sweat and ooze for hours."
ReplyDeleteYour recap was so fun to read, Vivi! My favorites, "...scheming her hostile takeover of Rod" and "Can you just imagine the three of them snuggled under a blanket in the bed, watching their latest Netflix dvd, and eating popcorn? Nope, I can’t either!"
ReplyDeleteAbout pregnancy and fainting, wouldn't a pregnancy that is compressing MAJOR arteries in your legs be pooching out quite a bit in front, too?
Good to see you here Emarie. Glad you enjoyed the recap. Yeah, I'm guessing in Luci's case, it's the low blood sugar thing. Girl needs to eat. :)
ReplyDeleteVivi as always thanks for the recaps. Oh please please don't let Gagme be pregnant at the same time as Luci. This is totally unacceptable for me in order for Luci to return as Rod's wife. Not acceptable!!!!Tn writers please make Gagme's nausea just stomach upset. Where is justice here!!!! Oh no no no!.
ReplyDeleteI think the fainting is strange b/c she was first dizzy like 2 days after her honeymoon when she was hanging with Hanna & Melissa remember that? I was thinking - that is awkward pregnancy foreshadow cuz nobody is dizzy the minute they get pregnant! 6 weeks later the pregnancy + low blood sugar + emotional wreckage year I can see it.
ReplyDeletebtw WTF with Melissa and Claudio subplot he seems old enough to be her grandfather! Please let this be a one way street & temporary infatuation. Why can't she hook up with Fabian? He's cute! Polo is getting to be a fave but NUMBER ONE FAVE IS OSCAR! He wouldn't have to spring for 2 rooms if I was his date!
Wow Vivi thanks for the links I have never heard of tacos en canasta before! The way we do it here, the guys make little traveling grills like this one in East LA:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Odu2ckc2A6c/TCwpxaqE4sI/AAAAAAAAC68/Bd70No2kwXQ/s400/Arandas_crew2.JPG
Good to hear from you Katie. Are you watching this out in California?
ReplyDeleteGlad you like Oscar. He's definitely my fave also. Can't imagine Melissa and Linares ever hooking up. This has to be a temporary WTF indeed.
And isn't Vivi great? She gets us information on just about every topic relevant to this telenovela. Great resource.
Aww shucks Judy! You know research is my weakness, just like hunks are yours. ;-)
ReplyDeleteKatie- Galan sperm always works VERY quickly.
