I actually watched two last night. Thanks so very much, dondi, for the splendid recaps. The finish line is in sight...at least for Season 1. I'm sorry I failed on once a week recaps, but I was tired of all the rather repetitive evil.

I'm glad you mentioned Duque's talking to the regular old thugs about Nacho's behavior. He expected to escape, maybe kill Nacho, and take over leadership of the Tijuana cartel. He was setting it up so they wouldn't turn on him when the boss died. I was frankly surprised they caught Duque. I'm doubtful they can keep him. I think Nacho is off the table. A helicopter from the DEA is pretty hard to intercept.

Miguel FINALLY got "scared straight". As the mother of a son, his lapses into crime gave me the willies. Let me hasten to assure Viewerville that my son is a hardworking, loving husband and father.

Mono...some tough guy. He got knocked unconscious with a broom handle?

Pretty sure I cheered out loud when Mateo, Laura, Dani, and Gael jumped into Fercho's car. Is Dani part feline? The kid's been near death 5 or 6 times. Does he only have 3 more lives left?

I kept expecting Duque to kill Nacho rather than Nacho being taken into custody.

I'm surprised Yadi told the truth, that she's not sure whose baby it is. Faced with a gun pointed at me, I'd have positively said it was Duque's.

These actors must enjoy all those scenes full of gunfire. As always, it's laughable what poor shots they all seem to be. Felt like 200 rounds and only a few actually shot.

How I loved that slap Gloria gave Duque! It made him furious, and he lunged toward her...to no avail.

Excellent recap, Kat. I agree with Juanita about your clever asides, such as:
"ice maiden pose" and Mateo having "phone book sized" lists of former bedmates. Telenovela cliches strike again; I don't believe that womanizers as old as Mateo seems to be reform once they fall in love. They might stop hunting for a year or two but are likely to be on the prowl again once the novelty wears off.

Does Enrique own shares of Velvet? Or are the ones he's hoping to join with Valeria's to gain control those of his father? If they're daddy's shares, he might be counting his chickens too soon. His father was pretty disillusioned with his business prowess after sneakily getting rid of Raul and hiring a guy who never performed. I'm not sure about his intentions. Others seem to think he wants Velvet to close; I rather thought he wanted his family to own it.

Every scene with Clara is close to FF>>> for me now. She might deserve Mateo accepting the most recent breakup she throws out there. And...Clara and the Three Harpies sounds like a metal band.

Yep, Pepita is a real nutcase and I'm pretty sure she'll be making trouble for Blanca. Doubt she already knows because she'd have run to HR like a shot.

Back to Enrique. He's rich, so why did he marry Barbie? He's willing to buy her a new car to keep her from wanting sex.

We got some of the "same old, same old". A female character who's been celibate a long time starts a sexual relationship, and everyone notices how good she looks.

Ramon got a beating and reformed? We'll see.

I'll put up something tonight. I'm watching too many novelas and thus find myself short on time. When watching only one I didn't feel doing a long one once a week was a problem.

Ramon is not to be trusted. Hard to see the background but it looked festive. A bar? Strip club? Whatever it is, I don’t get why Luisa would be happy about him coming back. He was terrible and better off gone from her life. He’s going to cause problems if she tells him about Fernando, and you know she will. Hope she focuses on singing.

    Part 1 of 2

Gloria starts the day with a Bloody Mary. Valeria needs to learn not to tell the witch what she plans to do…in this case to tell Alberto about his mother.

Mr. Slick, aka Carlos, is in Alberto’s office pitching a podcast with some famous podcaster in the New York area. It will be about Velvet and Saghattan, and Ana will be the one interviewed. He mentions her being an inspiration to other Latinas.

I want some of Isabel’s tortilla soup, but we never see it eaten.

Mateo invites Clara to dinner with the Three Harpies.

Isabel has pretty much won Blanca over. Blanca tells her about the great job her daughter arranged for her in Miami, but she feels too attached to Velvet. Isabel senses it’s a man and advises her to grab onto love despite what Blanca says about it not lasting.

Gah! More Cris and Barbie at lunch. Ms. Possibly the Most Spoiled Brat in New York City tells Barbie about her lunch with Carlos, the one in which he raved the whole time about Ana. Barbie’s not that interested. She says she’s sure Enrique has a lover.

Valeria tells Enrique about her conversation with her mother the night before. Enrique seems to think that they’re a pair because his mother and her father killed themselves. Valeria looks him right in the eye and tells him their whole relationship is a joke.

Carlos tells Ana about the podcast. Ana is kind of overwhelmed, but Raul chimes in that it will be very good for Velvet. [Carlos is supposed to be a tycoon (Rodrigo said tyrant), but he somehow can spend all of his time hanging around Velvet and around Ana.]

Valeria has come to tell Alberto something. [Probably about his mother being alive and about how she now owns her mother’s shares.] But, of course, Gloria bursts in. Valeria changes up and says that what she wanted to tell him was her idea about auctioning off the dresses they have on site like museum pieces so as to fund the Márquez Foundation.

Clara and Marga talk about the dinner invite from Mateo. Marga suggests more conservative clothes [!!]

Max tells Emilio how much he’s in love, but not with whom.

Valeria and Gloria are with Gloria’s lawyer to sign the papers giving Valeria everything Gloria owns. The paper is signed by both. But there’s another document Gloria has had prepared. In this one Valeria promises to give it all back when “the danger has passed”. We get, of course, a commercial break just then. But Valeria refuses and says she’d consider it if Gloria goes to rehab. Slap!!

    Part 2 of 2

After being slapped, Valeria goes after her mother big time. “You only destroy the lives of the people you say you love! I was always a broken toy to you, useless. I wasn’t good at ballet and tennis. I gained weight! I couldn’t sing. All you did was criticize me my whole life. My father, he did love me. In that letter he asked Alberto to take care of me. He didn’t even mention you. Why do you think that was?”

We see a bit of the podcast. Emilio and Isabel look on proudly. Then we also see Carlos doing the same.

There’s a board meeting, but only Alberto, Valeria and Enrique are there. Valeria tells Alberto about her mother signing over the Velvet shares. The purpose of the meeting is to vote on auctioning off the iconic dresses to support the Foundation. Enrique, of course, votes no, almost with a sneer on his face. But he’s outvoted by the Márquez siblings!

Clara comes to dinner, dressed appropriately. There are some snarky remarks from one or two of the harpies. Clara is on her best behavior. But before they sit down to dinner, Clara gives the dog a piece of chicken. The dog looks pretty bad, having an allergy to chicken. This time Mateo seems to side with his mother and aunties.

At the bar in Queens, Luisa is singing a salsa song and doing a very good job of it. People are dancing, and Susan is all over Pedro. Marga looks on sadly. [My God, I'm sick of this travesty of a triangle.]

After the podcast Carlos starts raving about a dress that, I think, is in Ana’s apartment. He recognizes it as a “Carmen Garza” [the name Ana chose for her Alondra creations]. He practically gets bug-eyed and salivates over the dress. On his way out, we get to see another of his weird facial expressions. [I’m starting to think he really does have a thing for her and isn’t part of a plot to trip her up. But it kind of looks like obsession and control.]

Emilio and Isabel again disagree about Carlos.

Alberto and Valeria have a very close moment at the apartment where they all seem to live together but separately. When he goes off to bed, Gloria waltzes out, drink in hand. She admits that “that woman” married Benjamin first. She doesn’t quite come out and say that’s why Valeria got everything, but…

The next day is what would have been Benjamin’s birthday, and Alberto talks with Ana about it. She remembers how Ben apparently bought things each year for the employees on his birthday. They get very close, looking about to kiss. I’m staring at the open door, expecting Cris. But it’s Valeria who comes in. She lights into Alberto.

Max and Blanca are once again in that storeroom. He declares how much he loves her. He brings out a ring and proposes! Unfortunately, the increasingly nasty Pepita is watching them.

Thanks for recapping, novelera, despite having novela/dizi overload. I’ll cosign your spot-on asides.

Mr. Slick is a good nick for Carlos.

“I want some of Isabel’s tortilla soup, but we never see it eaten.” We don’t get as many food scenes in TNs as we get in the dizis.

I kind of enjoy the Three Harpies sticking it to Clara. I still think Mateo is a crappy boyfriend.

IIRC, Isabel knows Blanca’s man is Max. Yikes, now sicko Pepita is sure of it.

Huh, Barbie didn’t care about Enrique’s past flings, but she senses something is different this time around. Not that I feel sorry for her but buy that car, Barbie…maybe a vacation house, too.

I liked Valeria in this episode. The actor did well to convey her disappointment and conflicted feelings while trying to keep it all under control. The scene with Albert was good. I hope they continue to grow close and trust each other.

I thought that Carmen Garza dress wasn’t very attractive. Yucky colors.

Thanks very much, novelera, for this terrific recap. You nailed everything important, and I loved your delightful names: Mr. Slick, the Three Harpies, and Ms. Possibly the Most Spoiled Brat in New York City.

I was a bit surprised that Blanca and Isabel are now bosom buddies. But I guess Isabel has been providing insights and support that Blanca needs and appreciates, and that has melted Blanca's resentment and created a friendship.

So Barbie is aware that Enrique has had flings before, and she hasn't seemed to be much bothered by them. But this one, she tells Cris, is more serious.

I loved the double exclamation points after "Marga suggests more conservative clothes [!!]." They certainly capture my response as well.

I was surprised when Val said she wouldn't give back all the resources Gloria signed over to her, and I was also surprised (and perhaps a bit disappointed) when Val added "unless you go into rehab." The proviso does show Val to be a good person, and I guess my disappointment shows me to be a mean one. Oh well....

I was again impressed with Luisa's singing. I wonder whether IRL she's primarily a singer. She's really good.

Arrgh, how long is it going to take before Susan is out of the picture?

I'm a bit confused about the scene where Carlos recognizes one of Ana's dresses as a "Carmen Garza." I had the impression he not only recognized the brand but somehow correctly recognized that she is Carmen Garza. Am I mistaken?

    Pepita again. Uh oh.

I watched about 15 minutes of this last night but the sound only played muted music, no dialogue. I had to read the CC's so I gave up. I'll catch it later.

To answer you Juanita, Jeimy Osorio is also known as a singer. She played the young Celia Cruz in the Telemundo novela based on Cruz’s life.

You were not mistaken. Slick knows that Ana is Carmen. He said her secret was safe with him. He gets creepier as time goes on.

Thanks for your comments, novelera. Don't apologize for not recapping. Time is valuable and much better spent on things we enjoy. My workload has slowed down a little, so I’ve been able to post some recaps to wrap this up for those of us who stuck it out. I think we all deserve medals.

I have doubts that Duque and Nacho will remain in prison. Especially if there’s another season.

I’ll be surprised if Mateo survives. He keeps saying he’d give his life for Glo.

I have the same thoughts about these novela shootouts as you do.

Dizi season is over, but I still have to finish a few eps. I see that there’s interest in Karsu (Sandik Kokusu) over at Uni. Maybe I’ll try to watch the Turkish eps and catch up with you there.

Many thanks, dondi, both for letting me know more about Jeimy Osorio and for confirming that Mr. Slick is aware that Ana is Carmen Garza. And yes, Mr. Slick gets creepier by the episode. I think we're seeing more of his weird facial expressions than we did at first.

Glo has kept her side of the bargain, but Mauricio can’t. He reluctantly says he must arrest Gloria. Gloria and Mateo try to talk him out of it. The President and Anderson won’t let her go. Nacho will track her down and kill her or her family. This isn’t fair. Mau agrees and tells her to leave quickly with Mateo.

Duque sees this and starts shouting. Glo tells him she did what she did for her son… and for criminals like you to leave me alone.

Mau tells Duque not to say a word of this, no one will believe him. It’s your word against mine.

Mateo calls Estrada. We are in the woods, the DEA let us go.

Mati and Yadira return to the hospital… with Luisa. Erna is not happy to see her sister. The ladies fill Erna in on what happened at the hotel. Luisa took their side and saved us. Erna thanks Luisa, but there’s still some residual frostiness between them.

News report outside the max security prison where Nacho is being delivered. Reporters shout out their questions: Don Nacho, how do you plead? Nacho replies, I’m a victim of the US and Mexican governments. Why are you being charged? Nacho: I’m a scapegoat, the real culprits are out there. Reporter: do you deny being the head of the Tijuana Cartel? Nacho: how do they know it’s me? No one knows who he is, no one has seen him! They are lying!

A reporter asks the DEA agents: what do you think of his statements? Is he really Don Nacho? Mau answers—no comment.

Luisa watches Duque’s perp walk on her phone. Mati comes up behind her and says, I hope that monster rots in prison. Luisa wants to leave.

Glo and Mateo are back at Estrada’s house. Glo notes that Duque has kept his mouth shut about her. Estrada replies, those of us OGs aren’t snitches. We don’t trust the authorities. [honor among thieves?] Glo thinks no one would believe Duque anyway.

Glo says she won’t relax until she sees her family… I need to see Daniel. She thanks Estrada for all he’s done. She asks for one more favor. We don’t hear that yet.

Mati asks Luisa, where will you go? You don’t need to hide. Duque is in prison. Luisa doesn’t feel safe in CDMX. And she has to go to the US for her surgery. Mati says she will go with Luisa. Luisa is surprised Mati isn’t staying with Glo. Mati tells her, you need me now. They hug. [I guess Luisa has earned some redemption points.]

Gael tells Yadi the DEA wouldn’t let him in but luckily Mateo did, and he left with Gloria. Yadi tells him what happened at the hotel. Duque knows I’m pregnant, she says. Gael asks, does he know he could be the baby’s father? Yadi nods yes.

Duque gets a reception as he’s led into his cell. He gets a visit from Commander Victor Romero. Duque tells him he’s got nothing to say to him. Romero says, it will be easier if he cooperates. Duque replies, do what you want, you won’t get a word out of me. Romero laughs, we’ll see.

Mati says goodbye to everyone. They tell her they will look after Dani and Gloria. Dani asks Mati not to leave with “la mala onda”, Tia Luisa. I hope she starts walking soon so she can go… Don’t say that, Mati responds, you’re here thanks to Luisa. Erna pipes up, don’t reprimand him. Luisa earned his rejection. Mati says she’ll be back as soon as she can. Ha, no one said goodbye to Luisa.

Laura doesn’t want to go back to her place. She’s trying to avoid the social worker. Yadi makes the offer to stay at her house.

Erna gets a text. No one has to worry. We all have a safe place to go.

  14. jefa #94 part 2

Nacho is interrogated. It’s being recorded. Romero begins, what’s your name? Nacho answers, I am Ignacio Perez, Mexican. I’m willing to detail and report the crimes committed by Gloria Guzman. She laundered money, smuggled drugs, and committed murder. Mau steps in, we are here to talk about you, not Gloria Guzman. You’re the head of the Tijuana Cartel. Don’t deny it, I know you’re Don Nacho. You tried to kill Gloria Guzman.

I wasn’t going to kill her, Nacho replies, we were settling a personal matter. Gloria is my lover. Mau slams his hand on the table—don’t lie! You were arrested at the residence where you held Ms. Guzman against her will. Nacho denies it—we were in the middle of our wedding ceremony when you broke in and shot up the place.

Nacho asks, why didn’t you arrest her? There’s a warrant. The president was clear on this. Mau says Glo managed to get away. Nacho says that’s proof of Glo’s guilt, she wouldn’t have run if she was innocent. Gloria is very dangerous, and I have proof. Gloria worked for me and the Tlahuac Cartel.

Romero asks, do you have proof? Nacho says she’s probably with Venancio Estrada now. Look for him and you’ll kill two birds with one stone. Mau steps in again but Romero tells him to shut up. Nacho claims he only wants justice to be done. I’ll offer the proof for Gloria and her accomplice, the Colombian Mateo Restrepo.

Mau tells Nacho, you talk a big game, but you’ve given us nothing. Nacho says he has recorded phone calls, encrypted messages, and routes that Gloria used. Is that enough? I can tell you the exact amounts that Gloria laundered. Mau notes, if you have all that evidence, then you automatically admit your guilt, too.

Nacho smirks, I, Nacho Perez, head of the Tijuana Cartel, don’t care if I go to a maximum security prison if it means Gloria Guzman, aka La Jefa, pays for every one of her crimes. Romero listens intently.

Mau and Dario step out for a moment. Dario is pleased. They will probably get big raises. Mau is not so happy. Nacho just ruined Gloria with his evidence. Dario thinks Nacho won’t go through with it. Mau says Nacho doesn’t care what happens to him if Gloria is screwed. He’s a lunatic who’s obsessed with her. Dario asks, what will you tell Anderson? Mau doesn’t know. They were lucky Anderson was in Washington when this went down.

Mau calls Glo. I’ll make it quick in case the line is tapped. Nacho snitched on you, and he knows you’re with Estrada. They’re coming for you. Glo relays this to Estrada and Mateo. Glo tells Estrada she won’t put him in danger.

Where do we go, Mateo asks. Dani is my sole focus now, Glo replies, I can’t take him with me. Everyone around me is in danger, Mateo. Mateo appeals to her, stay away from the others, but not me. Let me stay with you until the end [likely his end.]

Anderson shows up at the prison. He’s furious, thinking Mau put the op together behind his back. Mau explains they got a call on Nacho’s whereabouts and couldn’t let the opportunity go. Anderson adds, President Bernal called me! She wants to know how Guzman escaped.

Dishonorable Nacho continues to betray Gloria. He brings up JJ’s issues with narcos. Then there was Eduardo Torres, the corrupt FGR commander. Romero notes those men are dead. You say you have evidence? Give me names. Nacho gives up Yadira, Gael, Laura, Fercho, Alina, and Violeta. They all worked for Gloria. Question them. Then he adds Mati and Erna. They spent the money Glo laundered.

    ReplyDelete
  15. jefa #94 part 3

Mau says, we focused on capturing the figure heads and Gloria escaped. Dario backs him up. Mau reminds Anderson that capturing Nacho and Duque was always their goal. It’s a huge success for the DEA. Anderson won’t let go of capturing Glo. Find her and her Colombian lover. He threatens to fire Mau and Dario.

Glo is finally reunited with Dani and all her family and friends at Estrada’s place. She thanks them all. Especially Laura for saving Dani. She says neither Laura nor Fercho should feel guilty. Nacho is the one at fault. Yadi is glad that Duque and Nacho are in prison. Glo asks about Alina. Violeta says she stayed away because of Dario.

Glo says that Venancio will help them go to Colombia. Estrada explains that he has trusted people that will look after them there. Montoya will handle security. Dani asks his mom, are you leaving me? Tell me the truth. Glo replies, I can’t go to Colombia with you. You’ll be with your aunt and cousin. Dani reasons, if it’s because of the police, then you should stay with us. Glo explains that she would be putting everyone in danger.

Dani is worried. If you leave, we won’t see each other again. Glo says, go to Colombia and I promise to join you when we’re out of danger. Look after your aunt and cousin. You’re the man of the house, remember? Who’s the love of my life? Dani says he’s too old for that now. Then he adds… it’s me. He hugs his mom.

The Mexican president holds a presser. Today Nacho Perez and Duque Medina were arrested. We are closing in on their accomplices. I promised to capture these criminals, and I delivered. With the help of the DEA, Gloria Guzman and Mateo Restrepo will be behind bars soon. [At this point I don’t know who’s staying or going to Colombia.]

Nacho gets a huge reception from the other inmates at the prison. He thanks them.

Duque is not enjoying his accommodations. Romero comes to see him. Duque says, if you’re here to ask me to talk, you can leave. Romero says he was talking to Nacho earlier. There was no shutting him up. He told me many things. Duque asks, did he say anything about me? Romero laughs, what do you think? [what will Duque do now?]

Mateo pays cash for a room somewhere. Glo asks if he can be sure they won’t be betrayed there. Only things certain are birth and death, Mateo replies, everything else is uncertain. Glo is sorry she had to leave Dani again. At least Erna will care for him. Mateo assures her she will be Dani again soon. He wishes he could write a different story for them with a happy ending. But we are here now, he says, we have a hard bed in a cold room, and we’re wanted. Glo also wishes the story was different. Kisses.

Everyone has moved to Yadi’s house. I don’t see Erna or Dani but Alina has joined them. DEA bust in, cuff everyone and take them away.

    Glo and Mateo make love.

Romero comes back to Duque with two guards. He says the inmates gave Don Nacho a warm welcome. Duque replies, you don’t know me. If you think humiliating me will make me talk, you’re wrong. You don’t know me, Romero answers. He tells the guards, you know what to do. Leave no visible marks. Stick to the ribs, I’ll handle the cameras. Duque is beaten.

More Glo and Mateo. The usual conversation. Blah, blah, he won’t leave her. FF>>.

Nacho has deluxe accommodations. And the inmates pooled their money to buy some decent food for him. [is that sushi?] Nacho says he’ll have to thank them. He asks the guard, how much do you make working here? Do you have children? Family? Is it enough to give them a good life? [should we guess what the guard will do?]

  16. jefa #94 part 4

Romero starts questioning Glo’s friends. First Yadira. What did you do for Ms. Guzman? But we see Laura answering, I used to do her nails and hair. Romero tells her this isn’t a game. You’re here illegally. You could be deported for working with Guzman. It turns to Fercho who claims he only delivered beauty supplies to the salon. Romero tells him they have pics of him and Glo in San Diego. Alina answers next, I never went to the US. Check my passport. Romero reminds her she was detained at the airport. She reminds him the charges were dropped. She was innocent and freed.

We see that Mau and an uncomfortable Dario are also there for the questioning. Romero tells Alina, maybe Ms. Guzman bribed the judge. It’s common in this country. Alina says the DEA agent found nothing on her. Dario backs that up. Romero relays, Nacho Perez said you and your friends worked for her. What do you say to that?

Violeta answers that question. He can say whatever he wants. Gloria and I met in prison. We paid for our crimes. We’re innocent. Romero notes that the president issued an order against Glo. We switch to Gael. If you had anything on Gloria, you wouldn’t be questioning me to incriminate her. I can’t say anything because she did nothing.

I don’t care what you think, Romero continues, tell me everything you know about Gloria Guzman… He leans forward and aggressively points. And we are back to Yadira. Or, what will you do, she asks. Will you hit me? Hit a woman? I want a lawyer. Mau informs Romero, we’ve been after them for over a year. There’s nothing incriminating them. You have nothing. Romero warns Yadi, you’re not going anywhere until Guzman shows up.

Nacho has flashbacks of Glo. He says, your betrayal cuts deep but cutting you out of my heart cuts deeper.

A cop comes to tell Romero there’s someone who has info on Mateo and Gloria. He wants the reward. Romero asks him, have you seen Guzman or Restrepo? Follow me.

Mau appeals to Anderson to let Glo’s friends go. We’ve got nothing on them. Anderson says that’s up to the FGR.

Anderson, Mau, and Dario hear that there’s info on Glo’s location. Mau and Dario are ready to act. Anderson stops them. Let other agents capture her. Mau tries to make a case, but Anderson again threatens to fire them.

What do we do, Dario asks. Mau replies, I can’t let them get Gloria.

Erna, Dani, Miguel, and baby arrive in Cali, Colombia. Erna tries to keep things positive, but the boys are upset to be separated from their moms again. Erna explains that Glo and Laura are trying to protect them. Focus on school, your health and be good. Show your moms their hard work is worth it.

Luisa and Mati use the telenovela teleport to meet with the US doctor. Luisa wants the truth up front—will I ever be able to walk again? Mati reminds her it was already explained. Luisa is looking for a guarantee. The doc says, there’s a high chance you will walk again, but I can’t say with absolute certainty. Mati says no matter the odds, it’s worth a shot. Luisa agrees.

Mati speaks with Erna. She’s relieved they are in Colombia. She’s at the hospital with Luisa. She asks, have you heard from Gloria? Erna knows nothing. Mati is very worried.

A guard slips Duque a note. We don’t see what it says.

More Glo and Mateo, who are blissfully unaware of the betrayal...that is until Glo gets a call. She tells Mateo, they’re coming for us. We see Anderson and crew show up.

Glo asks Mateo, what do we do?

And we are out and on to the Gran Final!

Dondi356: Howdy from the Alamo City. Thanks for the super-long detailed recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts (it'll be somewhat short)
1.) President Bernal is hell-bent on putting Gloria in prison, which means someone will be eventually forced to give Glorida up.

2.) Surprised Erna, the baby, Daniel & Miguel managed to flee to Colombia. Let's hope they're not targeted.

3.) I still do NOT trust Whacky Luisa: She's still too EVIL to the core.

4.) Gut feeling Mauricio, Dario, etc., will likely have to arrest Gloria in tonight's Gran Final since this is Season 1.

5.) Anderson is a total piece of EXPLETIVE.

6.) Scumbag Duque is still a scumbag.

7.) Nacho: Fast Forward. Surprised he got a special prison cell with intriguing privileges LOL.

8.) Mateo & Gloria were still too gullible of the betrayal.

9.) I'm also interested to see what the note said & who wrote it.

10.) Whatever happened to the Esther from the DEA ?

11.) Laura might very well get deported back to Colombia, so we'll see what happens there.

12.) Looking forward to seeing the Season 1 Finale this evening.

I’m going to defend Clara. She maybe (but just maybe) shouldn’t have given Emily Fluffy a treat without asking but she didn’t know about the allergy and clearly wasn’t trying to kill the dog. Given the snobbery that she put up with from the Harpy sisters that Mateo didn’t even try to stop, she deserves a break. I thought she’d end up drinking too much so this was a better way to end the evening. But who assumes that all rich, sophisticated types must know opera? Or act like opera is only for the rich? (I’m not rich and I like it. I also would have told off Mateo for being ok with this treatment and told him to go pick out a spoiled brat from his phone book- ha!- of women). Clara should consider that. And dump Mateo.

But, wow, Valeria. Enrique almost seemed human there for a second and I thought she’d fall for it. I enjoyed her response. And she wasn’t wrong to call out Alberto. He had his chance to pick Ana and he didn’t. Reap what you sow, buddy, and go reap Cris. She’s getting desperate.

  20. jefa #95 Gran Final part 1

Gloria looks out the window. Anderson and his small army of DEA agents have surrounded the building. No way out. Mateo says there’s always a way. Glo and Mateo head to the roof and agents are in pursuit. [Did anyone laugh when they crossed between 2 roofs on a 2-3 ft. wide cement slab like it was a tightrope?]

Nacho has the run of the prison with everyone at his disposal. He asks the sushi guard if the message was delivered to Duque. It was.

Duque wants to squeal on Gloria and make a deal with the DEA. He’s told they don’t make deals with criminals. Don’t you want to know all about La Jefa, he asks. Now the agent is interested. Duque spills a bunch of lies about Glo.

The rooftop chase continues. Some shots are fired by the DEA. Mateo and Glo have to jump off the roof to escape. I guess it wasn’t that high because Glo and Mateo are now running down the street and the agents have lost them. Mateo breaks into a car. He hotwires it and they drive off.

Mauricio and Dario wait for word on Operation La Jefa. Mau is worried and Dario assures him that Glo is strong and will survive. Mau starts worrying about his career because he helped Glo. Dario tells him he did the right thing.

Anderson and Romero are pissed that Glo got away. Someone must have warned them. Anderson decides to release all Glo’s friends. They will be used as bait. Glo might try to contact them.

Glo and Mateo enter a house and look around with guns out. All clear. I think this was one of the houses that Glo used in the past when she worked with Estrada.

Yadi, Gael, Laura, and Fercho return to Yadi’s house. [Did you notice Yadi’s shoes?] They complain about the cops holding them for 24 hours. Fercho says DEA released them hoping Glo would contact them.

Glo laments that Dani has had the worst of the last 3 years… running, hiding, losing everything he had. Mateo notes if it wasn’t for Glo, Dani would be dead. Glo doesn’t know if it was worth it. She ended up selling drugs. She hurt other families to save her own. My father spent his life fighting crime, she says, but I became a criminal. Mateo replies, you did it for Dani. Glo answers, there’s always another way. I chose the wrong path. I should distance myself from my son. He’s safe in Colombia because I’m not with him.

We see Dani in Colombia, playing with Miguel with Erna and the baby nearby. We hear Glo’s voice: these 3 years have been the worst of his life. He’s been ill, lived on the run, and been in mourning. I’ve seen him cry but never laugh like he used to.

Glo’s tears fall as she continues, Dani lost a large part of his childhood. All I can do now is teach him what’s right. What do you mean, Mateo asks. I’ll do what I should have done a long time ago, she replies, I’ll turn myself in.

Duque comes to see Nacho out in the yard, but first he’s stopped by Nacho’s “bodyguard”, Tornillo. Nacho says to let the legendary Duque Medina through. He’s like a brother to me. Duque tells Nacho he did what he asked, he sunk Gloria with his statement. But nothing will come of it until she’s captured. Duque asks if they are going to do what Nacho put in his note? Nacho winks and smiles.

Mateo tells Glo she came this far, she can’t turn herself in. The Tijuana Cartel isn’t over because Nacho and Duque were caught. You’ll be killed if you go to prison. Glo says if she goes to Dani, the cartel will find him. Life without Dani is pointless. Mateo suggests, let’s rest so we can think clearly.

Glo calls Erna. I can’t tell you where I am, but I’m safe. Erna says they are fine and are waiting for Laura’s family to get them. Erna puts Dani on the phone. Dani is happy and asks if she’s coming. Not yet, Glo replies, I don’t know when I’ll see you again. The situation is complicated, and I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep.

Dani accepts this. He’d rather hear the truth than be told another lie. Glo asks Dani to be strong, to promise he will listen to his aunt, to take his meds, and study. Promise me. Dani promises. Glo apologizes and explains, everything I did was done thinking I was doing what was best for you. Know that I love you.

Laura and Fercho go back to their place. The social worker is there banging on the door. The worker asks, where is your son? Laura plays dumb. What do you mean? He’s at the juvenile center. The worker tells her that Miguel escaped. They pretend to be surprised and upset. Laura shouts, find my son and bring him back! It’s a half-baked acting job on Laura and Fercho’s part. Laura would be hysterical if Miguel was really missing, but it’s enough to send the worker away. Laura and Fercho laugh and plan to pack and leave asap.

Glo and Mateo are resting in bed. She’s sleeping in his arms. Clothes are on so maybe they actually rested. Mateo thinks about what Glo said about Dani and that she’ll turn herself in.

Glo wakes up in the morning and finds a note from Mateo: Gloria, I’m sure you know what I’m going to say. This is goodbye. I’m stubborn but I realize you’re right. We can’t spend our lives on the run. As long as we’re fugitives, staying together will make everything difficult. It breaks my heart, but this is for the best. I wish you happiness and hope some day you’ll understand what I’m doing. Glo can’t believe he’s left her like this.

Glo calls Yadi and asks to meet with her and Gael.

Duque talks to Mono on a smuggled phone. The boss is like a god here. He got me the phone I’m using. He asks, they went back to their house? Yes. [Talking about Yadi and Gael.] Duque tells him to keep an eye on them. If they try to move or leave the country, stop them. Kill Gael, but don’t hurt Yadi. I need to know if she’s carrying my baby.

Mono asks, what will happen to you and Don Nacho? We don’t hear Duque’s answer, but we see Mono smile. Mono sees Yadi and Gael leave. He follows them. DEA agents also see Yadi and Gael. They follow, too.

Anderson is on a call as he walks into Mau’s office. He says, It’s Gloria Guzman? Don’t lose her. Mau begs for the information. He’s been working on this case for a long time. He wants to participate in this op.

Now we are back to the beginning of the novela. Glo is walking in the park. She meets up with Yadi and Gael.

Nacho’s got a shiv. Sushi guard enters his cell. Is everything ready, he asks, let’s not waste more time in this pigsty.

Yadi asks Glo, where’s Mateo? He left me, Glo replies, he left a note. He finally realized he shouldn’t be with me. Gael says that doesn’t sound like Mateo, not after all he did for Glo. Glo asks them to send Erna money. It’s all Glo was able to recover. She should have it for Dani. Yadi agrees and asks if Glo’s got the money. No, she hid it. We see the DEA agents watching them.

We see a whole bunch of undercover DEA throughout the park. And Mau is stationed in a taco truck following the action. We see snipers in position. Mau is in communication with one who asks, do I have permission to proceed? Mau says they are waiting to hear from the Mexican president.

Yadi is worried about Glo. It’s dangerous for her to be here. Gael suggests she leave the country. Glo tells them not to worry, she’s got it under control.

The president is told that Gloria has been located in Chapultepec Park. She orders the arrest, and adds, put together a press conference. We will deal a lethal blow to the narcos in Mexico.

Glo tells her friends she’s turning herself in. They are shocked. They don’t think it’s a good idea. Gloria reasons, she will get a benefit if she helps the authorities. Yadi notes that Glo helped them once before and now the president is after her. Glo says that she will ask to be extradited to the US so Nacho can’t hurt her. We see Mono watching them.

Glo continues, Mateo didn’t want me to turn myself in. He said we’d find another way. But Mateo’s not here, Yadi replies, did he tell you where he was going? No, Glo says, but it’s better that way. This applies to you, too. This is the last time I ask for your help. Once Erna receives the money, you’ll be done with this for good. You’ve risked plenty for me. I’ll never forget it. Yadi tells her they’d do it again. We love you. The 3 friends hug goodbye. Glo walks off alone.

An agent spots Glo heading for the parking lot. At least a dozen armed agents spread out of a nearby van and into the park. Glo gets in an SUV and is cornered before she can get very far. And there’s Mau, pointing a gun at her.

Nacho and Duque plan to take the place of two inmates who died of food poisoning. [I wonder if Nacho had anything to do with said poisoning?] Sushi guard helps them. Stretchers with body bags are brought out. Duque asks, what if relatives want to bury the guys? Another guard says these men had no visitors, no on wants them. Nacho asks to see the bodies.

Nacho thanks the guards for helping them. He notes they will lose their jobs, but he will reward them a thousand times better. Nacho and Duque get bagged.

Luisa is wheeled to the OR with Mati by her side. On the way, they see a TV with the news that Glo has been captured. Mati tells Luisa, it will be okay. I’m here with you. Luisa is wheeled away, and Mati is left crying for Glo in front of the TV.

Glo is traveling in the back of a van with Mau. She understands. He explains, my boss started to doubt me. I had a hard time getting him to allow me to participate in the op. Glo is glad Mau is there. He tells her she should have turned herself in when he asked. It would have benefited her greatly. Why did you ask me to let you escape? Glo replies, I need to get everything ready for my son. Mau says a helicopter is following them because they are afraid that Estrada or Nacho will attack. Glo replies, Nacho is in prison and Estrada wouldn’t to that.

Nacho and Duque are taken to a van. A worker from the prison stops them. Are these the one who died from food poisoning? Sushi guard answers yes, as he opens the van to load. The worker unzips a bag, and Nacho pops up and stabs him in the neck. Yuck.

Nacho runs to Duque’s bag and tries to free him, but guards come running into the area. Nacho takes off without Duque.

Gloria is brought into the station and what do you know? There’s Mateo being taken away in handcuffs. He asks Mau to have a minute with Glo. It’s allowed. She asks, when were you caught? I wasn’t, he replies, I turned myself in. Had I told you what I planned, you would have stopped me. I declared myself guilty of all the charges against you.

  23. jefa #95 Gran Final part 4

We get the flashback. Romero interrogates Mateo. You say that Gloria Guzman is innocent? Yes, Mateo replies, I’m responsible for all the charges against Gloria. Romero: you infiltrated Guzman’s organization? Mateo: I didn’t say that. R: what did you do? M: I kept Gloria from noticing the illegal jobs we did using her company. I used her salon to launder money and smuggle drugs without her knowledge. R: can you prove this? M: I can. I have recorded calls with Nacho and Duque. I was asked to spy on and manipulate Gloria. End flash.

Glo asks, why did you sacrifice yourself? Because I love you, Mateo replies. You have to be with your son. Give Danielito the life he deserves. I can’t let you do this, she answers. He tells her it’s already done. We can’t both go to prison. Think of Dani. He needs you. Glo says, I love you. Romero walks in on this and breaks it up.

Mau confirms what Mateo did for Glo. Glo says it’s not fair. Mau thinks Mateo did the right thing. She wants to help Mateo. Mau says Glo will be of better use to him if she’s free. Get him a good lawyer.

Dario shows up with news of Nacho’s escape. Mau notes that Glo really needs to maintain her innocence. If she’s sent to a Mexican prison, Nacho will have her killed.

Duque is thrown into solitary, where he has an immediate meltdown. I’m Duque Medina! Duque Medina!!! I’m better than Nacho Perez!!

Nacho is back in a suit, out in an open field. He tells a henchie to get the plane ready. The henchie asks about Duque. We had to leave without him, Nacho replies, but I’ll find a way to get him out. Nacho asks about Gloria. She was arrested. Nacho doesn’t understand. Gloria could have been his wife, the boss of bosses, but she’d rather stay in prison. She still has so much to pay for.

Romero questions Gloria. Mau is present. She says they should be looking for Nacho instead of wasting time with her. He’s the cartel leader. You couldn’t even keep him for a day in prison. R: drop the attitude. Nacho told me you work for him. G: I don’t kill children. I didn’t kidnap anyone. I didn’t get rid of anyone. Nacho did. He’s a psycho. You believe him? R: Mateo Restrepo said Nacho felt something special for you. Were you lovers? G: I never returned his affection. Nacho is obsessed with me. He had my husband and my fiancé killed.

  24. jefa #95 Gran Final part 5

Mau jumps in. It’s my understanding that Mateo proved Nacho and Duque hired him to manipulate Gloria Guzman. Romero: if you’re not working in the drug trade… why do people call you La Jefa? Glo: if I were La Jefa, I wouldn’t be here. I’d be free like the other big fish. I never cared about power, all I care about is love. She looks straight at the camera and adds… and protect my son.

Time passes, not sure how much. The door at the women’s prison in CDMX opens. Inmates are released. Gloria is among them. [so she served some time, but Nacho didn’t kill her.] Glo is met by Yadi and Gael. Their baby is with them. Did they name the baby Gloria? And yes, the baby is Gael’s.

Estrada is in a car, there to pick up Gloria. It’s about time you got out, he tells her. It’s thanks to you, she replies, and the lawyers you hired. Estrada notes it was a difficult trial. Glo spent a year in prison. Now there’s nothing keeping her imprisoned anymore. Glo says, Nacho escaped and never turned in the evidence he promised.

Glo asks Estrada to hire lawyers to free Mateo. Estrada says that won’t be easy. Mateo confessed to everything. Glo wants to keep trying and Estrada promises he will. Glo asks about Nacho. The bastard vanished, Estrada replies, we have to send you away, so he won’t find you. They drive off.

In Cali, Dani is celebrating his birthday with family and friends. [and he doesn’t look a day older than when this started.] Erna tells him to close his eyes and make a wish. Dani says he’s too old for that. Who says there’s an age limit, Fercho quips. Laura offers to cover Dani’s eyes while he makes his wish.

Dani makes his wish. One… two… three… Dani opens his eyes. Gloria is there! They run to each other and hold each other tight. Glo says, I missed you so much. I wanted to surprise you. Who’s the love of my life? Dani answers, I am, Mom.

And we are out! Interesting that there’s no “Fin” or “Continuará”.

Thanks to all who contributed to the patio… especially my recap partner, novelera. Shout out to the lurkers… don’t be afraid to join us.

  26. "JEFA" SEASON 1 GRAN FINAL
Dondi356: Enjoyed the super-long recap of last night's Gran Final.
13.) I also noticed there wasn't any "FIN" or "Continuara" as well, which tells me they're bringing this back for Season 2 barring something crazy.

14.) President Bernal, is one pissed off woman to finding out Nacho escaped LOL. However, something tells me she's NOT to be trusted ever!

15.) Gael is the Baby Daddy of Yadira's baby HORRAY! I wonder if Maury Povich had an off-screen DNA test ?

16.) Daniel didn't age one bit LOL. Nice seeing Gloria, Daniel, Erna, Laura, Fercho, Miguel in Cali, Colombia.

17.) Mateo takes the fall by confessing everything. Good luck Gloria in trying to get him released from prison.

18.) Scumbag Duque is still Scumbag Duque: Going completely crazy & talking to himself inside that prison cell.

19.) Nacho is too damn SLIPPERY.

20.) I also like to thank Novelera for her recaps as well.

21.) Wondering whatever happened to Alina ? Is she still with Dario in some way ?

22.) Hoping Mauricio & Dario keeping their jobs with DEA in Season 2.

23.) Still haven't heard about whatever happened to Esther.

24.) Gloria served 1 year in prison ? I thought it was something like 3 years ?

25.) Interested to see what Season 2 looks like.

    Thanks, Steve.

President Bernal looks a lot like President Sheinbaum.

I assume Alina is still with Dario.

We didn’t see the result of Luisa’s surgery. If something goes wrong, will she blame Gloria?

IIRC, Esther died in the salon explosion. Martin died there, too.

I wonder if they’ll use different actors for Miguel and Dani in season 2.

I’m not ready for season 2 any time soon, but I’ll probably tune in out of curiosity.

  28. Velvet #39 part 1

Pepita walks in on Max’s marriage proposal to Blanca. That’s who you left me for? She hurries off and Max shouts at her to stop. Blanca and Max start to argue. Blanca says it’s Max’s fault for giving Pepita hope. He replies, I didn’t promise her anything. She fires back—but you slept with her! Max says he will fix this, but he wants Blanca’s answer. Her answer is they have no future; they never did.

Sara praises the Sahghattan line of dresses. She wants assurance the quality will be maintained once they are in production. Albert tells her their factory in Mexico meets the most rigorous standards. Sara says she’d like to visit Oaxaca and see for herself. Albert agrees.

Sara has picked a name for the collection—Sag Woman by Velvet. [Sag Woman? Lol, some name.] Sara says the contract will be finalized and then the first payment will be transferred. She tells Albert, sometimes things that start badly, can end up much better than you thought. I think Ana picks up on Sara’s manner towards Albert.

Enrique asks Val what’s going on with Gloria? Why did she transfer everything to you? She replies, my mom has been hiding money for years. Enrique’s not surprised. Val says, it’s not a fortune, but she wants me to manage it, that’s all. Enrique thinks there’s more to it. He tells Val she can trust him. And he has something to show her—info on a rehab center for Gloria. Val thinks her mom would never agree to go. She doesn’t have to, Enrique answers, you can make it happen without her consent. Have an intervention first. Consider this a last resort.

Rodrigo sends Ana a news item that backs up his view of Carlos: Massive Layoffs at Sahagun Global. Carlos Aristizabal behind arbitrary terminations without explanation. Marga notices something up with Ana. Ana doesn’t mention the article, instead she says they are going ahead with the Sahagun collection.

Marga notes that Ana doesn’t seem thrilled about it. Marga wonders if it has something to do with Albert. Ana says Albert didn’t look well. He’s so sad. I love him, Marga, and I know he loves me too. We almost kissed, but Valeria walked in. Marga asks, what if it had been Cristina or Enrique? Or Carlos?

Pepita talks to a coworker. Blanca approaches and asks to speak with her. Pepita says there’s nothing to talk about. We need to talk, Blanca replies, not because I’m your boss, but because of what just happened. Don’t try to scare me, Pepita answers. Who would have thought you, the stoic supervisor, pretending to be perfect, is nothing but a cualquiera. Blanca demands respect. Respect is earned, Pepita cooly responds, and you’ve been having sex with Max. [didn’t Pepita have sex with Max, too? Pot. Kettle. Black.]

Blanca warns Pepita, don’t say that! Pepita continues, I practically caught you together the other day, but your enabler Isabel saved you. [What about you stripping for Max in the storage area, Pepita?] Blanca demands respect again and Pepita repeats it must be earned. Blanca states she’s free to see who she wants. But not at the company, Pepita replies, and not with Max. He used me, he made promises, and you’ll both pay.

Marga reminds Ana about seeing Albert marry Cris. It hurt but you didn’t let the pain defeat you. You gave yourself another chance. It’s all in the past. Ana says Albert hasn’t been this sad since Benjamin died.

Luisa rushes in to tell her friends something is happening between Blanca and Pepita. Rick walks in immediately after and says the ceremony honoring Don Benjamin is about to begin.

  29. velvet #39 part 2

Cut to Albert addressing the staff out on the floor. This is his first birthday without him. All of you know how he liked to celebrate it at Velvet. He considered you his family. The staff share memories of past celebrations. Albert says we don’t just work here. Our lives are weaved together here… with each other, with every stitch of clothing, and every sale. Val asks for a moment of silence. Max looks at Blanca, Albert and Ana look at each other, Isabel watches, Albert looks at Cris.

Back in the storeroom, Blanca panics. She tells Max, how will we stop Pepita? Max says he spoke to her and she won’t say anything. Blanca says it’s too late. She’ll go to HR. So what, Max says, you’re not my boss. They can’t accuse us of anything. But I’m Pepita’s boss, she answers, I don’t want them to think I’m unethical.

Max says maybe they should get out in front of this. This will give us the push to defend what we have to everyone. Blanca says they are through, and she means it this time. You can’t do this, he replies, I love you and I know you feel the same for me. She admits she cares for Max. He gave her another chance in life. But I don’t love you, she says. He’s heartbroken.

Val announces the auction to the atelier. This will allow the Foundation to stay open. She asks the ladies to find dresses. Cris talks about the red dress—Crimson 76. Cris wants to stay and help pick out dresses.

Max confides in Rick. I blew it, he relates, I got involved with a woman that works at Velvet. Rick asks, a saleswoman? No, it’s Blanca, Max replies, we are in a relationship… well we were. Rick has to pick his jaw up off the ground. Blanca, the atelier manager? Wow.

Clara calls the vet to check up on Emily. Marga walks in on the call—who’s Emily? Did she die? Don’t joke, Clara says, we need to pray for her recovery. Marga says she’ll pray even if she doesn’t know her. Clara says Emily is a dog. Mateo’s aunt’s. Marga misunderstands she thinks Clara called his aunt a perra. Clara explains what happened. Marga chuckles.

Anyway, Marga is there to talk about Pedro. She’s worried about him. Susan doesn’t give him a break. Clara says the son think is so suspicious. [DNA test please. I don’t care if you do it behind Pedro’s back.] Marga tells her about the business Susan’s running out of the apartment. Clara says if that gets back to Emilio, it’s trouble. Susan could be forced to leave. Marga thinks…

Max tells Rick that Blanca wants to end things. She wants him to find a woman his own age. The harder he tries the more Blanca resists. He tells Rick about the proposal and that Pepita saw them. And to top it off, he messed with Pepita, too. Rick’s ears are about to burn off. Pepita? Wow, bro, leave some for the rest of us. Max explains that Pepita was a slip up while he was on a break with Blanca. [ha, made me think of Ross and Rachel.] Rick isn’t sure what to say. He says maybe Max should step aside and find someone else. Poor Max.

Gloria and Cris have lunch. Glo is happy Cris is involved in the auction. Glo confides that her relationship with Albert is in crisis. It’s about Albert’s mother. She’s a cold, ambitious woman. A social climber who met Benjamin in Mexico and got pregnant to trap him. But Ben didn’t fall for it, and she abandoned the child without remorse.

Cris believed that Albert’s mother was dead. Glo replies, that’s what Benjamin said because it would be too cruel to tell him his mother didn’t want him. Glo says, I gave him (Albert) all the love I had to give. Cris believes that, too. Glo tells her, we have to keep Albert from having anything to do with his mother. Cris asks, what happened to his mother?

Max is helping a customer when everyone on the floor starts looking at their phones and start looking at him. Rick rushes over and excuses himself, he needs to speak with Max for a moment. Rick shows him the pic on the phone. It’s Max proposing to Blanca.

Pepita smirks as everyone in the atelier sees the pic. Raul rushes out of his office. Blanca charges in and accuses Pepita of sending the pic. You shared it with the entire staff! Pepita denies it, it’s from an unknown number. Blanca accuses her again. Pepita replies, then stop denying it. Tell everyone that Max was your lover. How long have you had trysts in the atelier? Now we know how he got the job!

Blanca says that’s not true—take back all you said! Pepita stands firm and calls Blanca a liar. You’ve played dirty. Everyone here knew I was in a relationship with Max, and you stole him. Blanca is livid, you’re the only liar here, I demand you tell the truth! You came on to Max! This goes on and on, until Emilio comes in and demands to know what’s happening.

Max and Blanca are brought to HR. Blanca is ready to take full responsibility for what happened. She had a relationship with an employee. HR says if Blanca used her position as a superior… Max interrupts—no, she didn’t. It’s the opposite. I kept insisting. HR asks Blanca, did he pressure you? Not at all, Blanca answers, Max was always respectful. But I’m still ashamed.

Emilio says all they had to do was notify HR. Blanca says she was too embarrassed. Max is much younger than I and it happened so fast. HR asks Max about Pepita. She wanted to be with me, he replies, she’d text me, send me pictures. Blanca broke up with me. I was so heartbroken, I spent the night with her. But I love Blanca. HR says this is complicated. We can’t turn a blind eye towards Pepita and Blanca’s confrontation or your (Max and Blanca’s) relationship.

Emilio speaks to Pepita alone in the atelier. He tells her Max and Blanca say the picture shared with the staff was taken by her. She denies it. Do you believe me? That doesn’t matter, Emilio says, Max accused you of harassment. Pepita says she’s not a stalker. I was just jealous of Blanca. Emilio tells her that’s not an excuse.

Pepita gets defensive. Max and I are the same age. They should be investigated. How did Max get his job? Through Blanca? Emilio says that’s not true, he earned the job on his own merits. You caused a lot of harm in sharing that picture. She shoots back, people need to see what kind of person Doña Blanca is!

Emilio shares a story. Several years ago, a customer paid Don Benjamin a visit. She wanted you fired because she claimed you intentionally stuck her with a needle during a fitting. Pepita says she’d never do anything like that. Not important, Emilio says, Benjamin was going to fire you to keep his best customer, but Blanca found out and said she wouldn’t allow it. She threatened to quit. Pepita’s demeanor changes, she didn’t know this. Emilio says, that’s the kind of person Blanca is. A good woman who worries about her employees and hates injustice. You’re here thanks to her. This time you won’t have her on your side. Pepita panics. I can’t lose my job. What can I do to fix this? Please don’t fire me. Help me.

Gerardo visits Albert at Velvet. [don’t these people ever stop drinking alcohol?] He hopes the auction is a success and the Foundation can continue. Gerardo fully supports it. Gerardo is hoping for another surprise from Cris and Albert. Cris told him they are thinking about having a baby.

    ReplyDelete
  31. velvet #39 part 4

Albert looks shocked and Gerardo asks if he got it wrong. Albert says no, it’s just a subject he wanted to keep private. He asks Gerardo to keep it secret. Gerardo says Cris was so excited, she had to say something. Don’t tell her about this. Gerardo tells Albert he’s doing a good job looking after Cris. Keep it up and you and Velvet will never want for anything.

Enrique has been working on invites to the auction. Val is suspicious. Enrique wanted to shut down the Foundation. Enrique admits he’s not the charitable type, only if it helps with taxes. He thinks it will help restore Velvet’s position as one of the city’s elite institutions. It benefits us all. Val’s happy to hear it. He thinks he deserves a prize.

Val is about to give Enrique his prize, when Gerardo walks in. [Are there no doors in this place? No one to announce a visitor’s arrival? Where’s Clara?] Gerardo congratulates Val for thinking up the auction. Benjamin would be proud. Gerardo asks Enrique to lunch and leaves. Before Enrique goes, he tells Val don’t deny it. This is more than hooking up. He kisses her cheek.

Blanca is back in HR with Emilio. HR says that Pepita confessed that some of her version is a lie. Blanca says she’s glad to hear it but it doesn't matter. She’s resigning. Emilio asks to speak with Blanca alone. Blanca tells him, don’t try to change my mind because you won’t. That doesn’t mean it’s the right decision, Emilio replies, yes you made a mistake getting involved with an employee and not letting HR know, but thanks to Pepita’s retraction and Max’s statement, HR concludes that this is your private life.

Blanca says the reality is different. I’ve seen how they look at me now. They’ve lost respect for me. HR can’t change that. HR comes back into the room. She just received another complaint. It’s against Pedro.

Val is surprised to see Isabel in the storeroom. She thought Blanca was going to help her pick out dresses. Isabel says something came up for Blanca so she will help. They look at some dresses. Crimson 76. A very special dress. Val says it’s like the heart of the city. It’s famous but we can’t auction it off. Isa asks why. Because there are two dresses my brother doesn’t want sold, Val replies, this one and Indigo Rose.

Isa looks at Indigo Rose, she remembers this one perfectly. It was designed to honor Mexican culture. They Mayas brought the color indigo into the world. This dress reflects my country’s strength. Val says her father loved Mexico. Isa is sure the auction will go well for her and Albert. She asks Val, do you know what I like about you two? Your lovely relationship. You’re close and trust in one another.

Emilio scolds Pedro. How could you set up a business in the apartment? Clara and Marga listen nearby. Pedro clarifies, it’s not my business. It’s Susan’s. She’s living with me and needs to make money. She’s living with you, Emilio asks, that’s another offense! I thought she only brought you the kid!

Pedro asks how he found out. An anonymous email to HR from a coworker. Pedro notes there’s a lot of nosy people around. He says he was only trying to help Peter and his mom. Emilio tells him to relax, he fixed it with HR. But don’t do it again. Emilio tells Pedro he lets people take advantage of his big heart.

Ha, ha, Clara and Marga don’t even hide themselves they stand beside the men and listen. Clara interjects, sorry to meddle but the nerve of some people. We have some malicious, jealous, people living in the employee building, Pedrito.

That night, Pedro helps Susan pack up her business. Marga and Peter watch. Marga comments, Susan, I’ve got some cousins living in Brooklyn. Maybe you can start your beauty business there. Susan thinks it’s a great idea. Susan tells Pedro, we’re moving to Brooklyn! We can rent an apartment, and I can open my business. And Margarita’s cousins can lend a hand. Thanks, Marga, it’s a brilliant idea.

Susan jabbers on and on about how great it will be to live in Brooklyn. Marga backtracks on her idea. Her cousins really aren’t that nice. They said they were moving to the Sahara [?!] She advises Pedro not to leave the company apartment. Rent is expensive. Save money for old age.

Susan objects. Save? What we need is to invest in my business. She turns to Pedro, do it for the family. We’re together now anyway. She thanks Marga again and tries to get rid of her—it’s time to put Peter to bed. Marga takes the hint and leaves. Susan says she’ll start looking for apartments. [When will idiot Pedro grow some brain cells and a spine?]

Jenny brings Blanca some tea. She starts, Max loves you, Mom. He’s been in love with you since he came to Velvet. Blanca is surprised she knew. Jenny says it was obvious. Blanca is embarrassed and she thinks Jenny must hate her. Embarrassing? No. Max loves you, she replies, and you love him. There’s nothing wrong with that. Now that everyone knows you need to defend your relationship.

Blanca would rather not talk about it. Jenny says, we’ve spent our lives acting tough around each other and hiding our feelings. I think it’s time we opened up to each other. [Wow, Jenny doesn’t suck anymore.] Blanca brings up the age difference thing again. She can’t get carried away like a teen. She’s got responsibilities and an image to maintain. Jenny says it doesn't matter what others say.

Blanca is thinking of Max, too. He’s got his whole life ahead of him. I can’t deny him the chance to have children. He wanted a family, and I can’t give him one. That’s why I ended things with him. I don’t want his love for me to be transformed into hate or bitterness. Yes, it hurts to let him go, but it’s best for both of us.

Max has his bags packed. He tells Rick, I thought I’d put down roots in the Big Apple, but no. I’m leaving Velvet. I’ll try my luck in another city. [Miami?] Rick asks, why don’t you stay and look for another job? Max says he has a past and Blanca was the only thing keeping him there. Rick notes that Max is Velvet’s star salesman. Max says Blanca quit. Rick replies, if you leave, nothing will change. Max doesn’t want to stay at Velvet without Blanca. He hands Rick a letter to give to Blanca.

Jenny disagrees with the sacrifice Blanca is making for Max. But if that’s what she wants, she will support it. There’s a knock at the door, it’s Pepita. Jenny says, how dare you come here? Blanca asks Jenny to leave them for a moment.

Pepita begins, I’m here to apologize, Doña Blanca. What I did was wrong. I was an idiot and let my jealousy get the better of me. Don Emilio told me that you defended me years ago when I was about to be fired. He said you threatened Don Benjamin with quitting. You’re the only one at the company who’s ever seen me. I’m so sorry for what I did. Please forgive me. I forgive you, Blanca replies, thank you for coming here and thank you for telling me. Pepita leaves. [Pepita earns her redemption card.]

Ana listens to her podcast interview. Her friends congratulate her.

Raul asks if anyone has an update on Blanca and Pepita. No answers.

Blanca comes to see Albert. Isabel is there. Blanca wants to submit her resignation letter. Albert says he and Isa have been talking about her. Isa says she told Albert the truth. Hold your head high, you did nothing wrong. Isa leaves so they can talk.

Albert refuses to accept Blanca’s resignation. He needs her now more than ever. They are working on Raul’s collection, and the other half of the atelier is working on the Sahghattan line. Blanca says she will be unable to maintain discipline. People have lost respect for her.

Albert replies, you only choose to see it that way. Your colleagues respect you, they hold you in high regard because you’re the best boss there is. Don’t be ashamed of falling in love. You committed no crime. I regret it came out this way, but in the eyes of the company, you’ve done nothing wrong.

Blanca answers, I appreciate it, Don Alberto, but I can’t keep working in the same place as Max. Albert tells her Max quit. She’s stunned. Albert says, he met with HR and left.

    And we are out.

Dondi, you deserve a gold medal for the terrific recaps all the way through this sometimes-frustrating telenovela. Believe me, I deeply appreciate it. Sticking around to the end was sometimes a bit like a boyfriend you know you should end things with but can't seem to muster up the effort to do so.

Damn! I had convinced myself that the ridiculous Nacho would be killed off before the end, leaving Duque as Gloria's antagonist. Loved "residual frostiness" between Erna and Luisa. And Luisa does seem to be on a partial redemption road.

It took me a while, but I recognized Romero as the sleazy FGR commandant who replaced Juan Jose. His interrogation techniques were pathetic.

Anderson was furious he didn't get credit for the takedown of Nacho and Duque. He wanted the spotlight; he's the poster boy for petty bureaucrats.

Is Mauricio holding out for a government pension? I'd have quit in a week with Anderson as MY boss.

I thought the guy who gave up Mateo and Gloria's location was the shifty looking guy who rented them the cheap motel room. And, yes, the director seeming to emphasize the perilousness of walking across that beam that you'd have to suffer from acrophobia not to manage successfully.

If I'm ever on the run, I want Mateo as my accomplice. He figured out how to get out of the hotel and was a hotwiring expert.

Yep, they tried a slicked back "do" instead of the usual bangs, but Dani is still the same size after, what?, four years?

Thanks again, dondi. You are a true gem!

  35. Velvet.

Wow dondi, all the details. I'm still having trouble with the sound when this airs, I'm only getting the music track and muffled voices, so I have to watch the on demand version the next day. Hope it's resolved by Wed, my recap night.

I agree, Jenni doesn't suck anymore. She was so sweet and understanding to BlancaVal is moving up in the rankings also.

So I'm guessing Margarita was the anonymous whistleblower about Susan. Not only a nail salon she also did massages. Someone raised their eyebrows about the massages, was it Emilio. Should we take bets on when Pedro finally does the DNA test? Maybe Rick, Mr Johnny on the spot, will pull a strand of hair from Pepito's mop of hair.

I can see Max in Miami.

Dondi, muchísimas gracias for this amazing recap. You've covered everything with insight, grace, and humor.

I'm glad you commented on Sara's bizarre choice of name for the new collection. Surely, she's fluent in English, so why in the world does she choose "Sag Woman"?? In my mind, it creates only unpleasant images.

I was surprised and pleased that Pepita apologized to Blanca. I confess I had a bit of sympathy for Pepita even before she did so. Blanca haughtily demands that Pepita respect her, and Pepita replies (rightly, in IMHO) "Respect must be earned." Blanca's behavior with Max while they're at Velvet could legitimately be seen as not worthy of respect by the people Blanca is in charge of.

I enjoyed and agree with your remarks about the DNA test. I guess we on the patio have to shout even louder.

Gloria's claim that she gave Alberto "all the love I had to give" may indeed be true. Gloria seems to have no love to give anyone. I doubt her love even for Val.

I probably should have looked more carefully at the photo Rick has of Max proposing to Blanca. What I recall seeing was just Max and Blanca standing near each other and facing each other. Was the ring visible?

    Again, MANY thanks!

Wonderful recap, dondi. And your asides were, as always, spot on.

I'm not convinced Max and Blanca are over. Regarding kids, maybe they could find a surrogate or adopt. But I am pretty tired of her practically going postal on him every time her insecurities flare up.

I'm betting Sara plans for Alberto to accompany her to see the "excellent" facility in Oaxaca. Has Cris been around to notice Sara drooling over her husband. If she isn't worried yet, his accompanying ANOTHER woman somewhere without her is sure to cause a scene.

ITA on Sag Woman being the worst brand name ever.

Alberto lives in a hell of his own making. He can't just compartmentalize Cris because she seems to be at Velvet hours every day (except for the catty lunches with Barbie of the frozen face and dubious feet).

Mr. Google seems doubtful Valeria could force her mother into rehab. Juanita, amen on Gloria saying she gave Alberto all the love she had to give. I'm sure I audibly snorted in disbelief.

I'm getting a kick out of all the characters saying "dreenk" on the regular and Telemundo thinking U.S. viewers need a Spanish subtitle for that. Has that word crossed over into Spanish?

Yep, Jenny definitely doesn't suck any more.

I kind of enjoy Raul being a bit stereotypical and jumping into every female gossip session. He's kind of being portrayed as every straight woman's favorite gay guy, without being that swishy.

Having posting issues, so I'll make it quick.

Dondi and Novelera, thanks for keeping La Jefa alive on Caray Caray. I watched the whole thing and your recaps were super. The TN was "super" only in the minds of Telemundo marketers. I wish better for the actors and Viewerville for the next Super Series.
