No man is rich enough
to buy back his past…Oscar Wilde
Casa de Breton
Driveway: By phone, Manolo tells
Ricky that Oriana’s husband passed on to that big criminal enterprise in the
sky. Ricky is visibly shaken. Later at the church, Ricky tells Mariano, the
priest, that Jose Luis is dead. A Columbian informant reported that his body
was found in a building that burned to the ground after a gunfight with grenades. They can’t match his DNA.
Aresti Breton-Oriana’s
Office: Ricky says he wants to
smother her in kisses, but she looks at the employees and says that they have
to remain professional at work. Ricky
came to tell her that Lila wants Berto, a kinda sorta accountant, to work there. He wants Berto to work for Piero because he wants no competition for her kisses.
Outside, Ricky tells Piero to hire Berto. He thinks Berto may have killed Gabriel or hired someone to do it. Berto had no business in San Carlos. He's a deadbeat, who lives off of his sister. Berto knew that Gabriel would have left Lila out of the will and she would have been left with nothing. Ricky heard Berto telling Ines that he’d seen her in San Carlos. He wants Piero to get close to him and milk him for info. He doesn’t think that Oriana or Rhodalina could have shot Gabriel. Women don't have the smarts or strength to aim a gun and fire. Now that he knows that Berto was there and he's stuck his tongue down Oriana's throat, he has his doubts. Murderers don't kiss like that. He's sure of it. Piero thinks that that’s a lot of coincidences, but he agrees to help.

Lila and Berto are having lunch. Now that she’s sold the mansion in TJ,
she’s downsizing to a condo. She can’t
afford to pay for the hotel there in Hermosillo. Berto
says that he will work at Aresti Breton and plans to go after Ines. Lila says that Ines has the hots for
Ricardo. Lila thinks that Berto has a worms chance at a bird convention. Berto thinks that Ricky ain't no big deal. He can get close to Ines.
Casa de
Fedelia-Living Room: Fedelia would
like Ricky to give Marilu a job at Aresti Breton. Maria has wandered uptown and lets herself
into Fedelia’s purple palace. She
escaped from the doll hovel after her father left for the evening and the Elvira
fell asleep. Maria is impressed by the
living room’s Barney, the Dinosaur, inspired color pallette; she wants to move
in immediately. Ricky says that she has
to get the hell up out of there. Fedelia
asks who Maria is, but Ricky ignores the question and desperately tries to
corral Maria towards the exit. Maria refuses
to go because she likes it better there in the Plumb fairy paradise. As Ricky reaches for her, she turns it into a
fun game of ring around the couch.
Hearing the commotion, Sabastian and comes down the stairs, just in time
to see Maria fall into epileptic convulsions.
Ricky yells, “call the doctor”!
Rather than grabbing a phone, Fedelia and Sabastian continue to ask
about the convulsing lunatic on the floor.
After accepting that Ricky was not going introduce his new friend to the
family, Sabastian, concedes and makes the call. Marilu walks in.
Maria didn’t take her medication, says the doctor. Maria is weak, but she’s going to be
alright. Once again, the doctor
encourages Ricky to commit Maria or at least get a nurse to watch her. Ricky says that he can’t do it because she is
the mother of his son. Awkward silence time! After the doctor leaves, Fedelia, Marilu and
Sabastian are left staring at Ricky.
Fedelia wants to know the nut’s identity. Ricky directs everyone to sit down but, Benigno,
exasperated with his daughter, barges in and announces that he can no longer
control her. He tells the Sabastian that
Ricky is his father, not his brother!
Oh, yeah, and the spaz is your mother and I am your grandfather.
Sabastian tearfully confronts his newly discovered,
father. Meanwhile, Marilu and Fedelia
are standing on the other side of the living room, gawking and eating their buttery
Orville Reddenbacher popcorn (they’ve sent the maid out for soda cuz, they
don’t wanna miss A THING). Sabastian
thinks that Ricky has always been ashamed of him and wanted all of the inheritance to himself. He says that he wants his portion of the inheritance and
never wants to see Ricky again. He then
runs away to his room. Fedelia tries to
comfort Ricky, but he rejects her and says that he needs to be alone.
The next morning, outside of the church, Father Mariano
tells Oriana that Jose Luis is dead. He
told her because he doesn’t want Ricardo to get to her first. He fails to tell her that they don’t have a
DNA match, so it's possible that Jose Luis is alive. She cries. She can't understand why he would turn to a life of crime and ruin his family. She says that Jose Luis is better off dead. He would have gone crazy in
jail.
Sitting on the couch, Fedelia tells Marilu that Ricky was 22
or 23 and Sebastian was 5 when they came to live with her. After sleeping on it, Ricky enters his aunt’s
living room as if the events of the previous night had never occurred. He plant’s a big kiss on her cheek and asks
if Maria is awake. Fedelia says yes, she’s
already ordered breakfast in bed. She
doesn’t want Maria in the house. She also
says that Sabastian didn’t come home last night.
Ricky drags Maria home kicking and screaming. She says that she likes his house more than
hers (frankly who wouldn’t). She
remembered that she met Piero at Ricky’s birthday party. She asks about Piero’s cute friend. She doesn’t remember his name. He shoves her into the doll hovel. Benigno says that he wants more money for his
silence and that he won’t go looking for her next time she runs away. Ricky grumbles at Elvira and says that she
should keep a better eye on Maria. After
Ricky leaves, Benigno tells Elvira that Maria isn’t his child. His wife was pregnant when they married.
Oriana is grieving in her office when Ricardo knocks on her
office window. Instead, of having a
private conversation away from potentially prying ears, Ricardo leads her into
the front stairway and spills his guts.
Ricky knows that he’s my son, he says.
Ricky tells Ines what happened during the big reveal. Oriana tells him that he can turn lemons into
lemonade. Now that the secret is out, he
can be a father to Sabastian. He breaks
out the sympathy card and gets some of those kisses that he was craving earlier. Oriana tries to resist, but he begs her to
give them a chance. He confesses his
love for her. She’s afraid that he will
reject her eventually. He doesn’t care
about her past. He’ll never reject her,
he says. He tells her that she’s
beautiful; they make out on the stairs. So much for professionalism. Ricky
tells Oriana that he wants to make love to me and she gets jealous. OK, I lied.
Ricky tells Oriana that he wants to make love to her and I get jealous. Tramp!
She says that Ricky’s been through a lot today and she doesn’t want to
be used. Use, me Ricky! He says that she’s right.
Berto visits Paloma’s house and introduces himself, to the
gardener, as the late Gabriel’s brother-in-law.
Needing no other proof, other than the stranger’s word, the gardener
tells him to go right in and kill the whole family if he wants (just lock the
door behind him on the way out). In the
courtyard, Berto sees Raquel and reintroduces himself to her. She has a short memory. He reminds her that he’s Lila’s brother. Remember?
I was there at the cat fight at Villa El Descanso Eterno (Adriana Noel). They go out for lunch.
Later, Berto and Raquel come upon Sabastian guzzling Tequila
at an outdoor cafe. Rather than stopping
the drunk seventeen year old, they decide to sit down and have a drink with
him. Sabastian tells them that Ricky is
really his father and his mother is the town lunatic. Berto asks if he’s sure. Sabastian says yes. Berto buys another round and orders some popcorn.
Ricky drives Ines home and gets more sympathy PDA kisses in
the front yard. Orianna tells Ricky that she doesn’t want Paloma to leave her
anything. Ricky says that rich people can
leave there fortune to whomever they want.
Berto and Raquel pull up in the driveway. Raquel calls Oriana a tramp.
Berto tells Lila that Sabastian is Ricky’s son. Lila wishes she would have known that before the
divorce. She could have used that
information for leverage to get more money. She gives
Berto power of attorney to work on her behalf.
Jealous Raquel corners Oriana in the hallway and reiterates
that Ricky belongs to her. Oriana tells
Raquel to stay out of her life. Raquel
slaps Oriana and Oriana slaps her back.
Raquel smacks Oriana again and Oriana returns the blow.
Mathilde, who silently witnessed the smack down, runs out of
the hallway. She tells Ruben that the
girls are punching one another. Ruben asks
if they are fighting over Ricky. Have
you seen him without his shirt on? Ruben
says that the fight is none of their business, but he knows what is his business! THE GAME! And IT IS ON! After Ruben leaves, the gardener announces that Sabastian (NOT A
STRANGER, UNLIKE BERTO), a friend of the family has come to visit Paloma.
Hung over, Sabastian drags himself into the Casa de
Breton. Occasionally, he stops to hold
on to the wall for support. Mathilde
escorts Sabastian to Paloma and tells Mathilde to leave. Sabastian tells Paloma that Ricardo is his
father, not his brother. Last night he
found out that his mother is crazy. He
says that he will hate Ricky for the rest of his life. He wants the money for the stock now. Ines sits quietly by munching on a bag of hot
buttery Jiffy Pop popcorn; she wonders where the maid is with her drink. Outside in the hallway, Mathilde is
eavesdropping. She runs down the hall
and tells Ruben what she’s heard.
Aresti Breton: Ricky tells Piero that Sabastian knows
everything. Ricky no longer cares
whether Ines is Oriana. He doesn’t think
that she killed his father. He loves her ass
and that’s it. He hid and lied about something and he understands why she would have to lie as well. Piero tries to talk him
out of it. Ricky also tells Piero that
Maria remembers him from the party.
Ricky doesn’t know how it’s possible that Little Ricky Ricardo was able to stand up
because he was blasted out of his mind.
Piero nervously says that it’s possible to get an erection when you are drunk (trust him, he knows). Ricky asks Piero if he remembers anything
about the night that Sabastian was conceived.
Piero pleads amnesia and runs out of the room.
Villa El Descanso Eterno (Adriana Noel): A man comes to talk to Lucina about buying
the hotel. Lucina wants to know why they
want to spend so much money. He says that
he’s part of a group of investors. When
Lucina leaves to get the keys from Felipe, the man calls someone that does not
answer.
It’s bedtime and Pretty Ricky is shirtless again. He calls his love, Ines, to whisper sweet
nothings to her.
I'm too tired to make it funny! I have to work all day, so I can't comment a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'll respond to your comments when I get home.
Cynderella- Too tired to make it funny? OMG! This WAS funny!
ReplyDeleteI fell asleep before the episode came on, so the dvr continues to pile up. But I can't believe the "your brother is really your daddy" secret is already out, and that the galan seems to know the truth about the heroine, and doesn't care!
I read through the recaps and comments, and I see there is mention of a portrait of a relative that looks a lot like Oriana. I think we can bet that this means Ori is indeed a relative. In La Fuerza del Destino (same producer, same writers, same galan), there was also a portrait of a relative (the real father of the galan) in a prominent place that looked exactly like the galan, just with grey hair and a beard (DZ looks good with a beard). The camera didn't linger on it long, no one pointed out the resemblance, but it was pretty obvious when you took the time to look at it. I'm sure they're using the same device here.
Have we found out anything about Oriana's family? Is she adopted?
Priceless Cynderella,
ReplyDeleteFinally I know the actress playing Madhilde. She was Helena's mom, Silvia, in Por ella soy Eva. She looks so different. Leticia Perdigón is the actress.
I have to watch again, I must have dozed off.
Vivi, forgot to mention that Tempestad is still worth watching, I really doubt it will continue however. Worth it for WL though. He was especially guapisimo last night. He is doing mad almost as well as Colunga.
ReplyDeleteVivi:
ReplyDeleteThey have never said if Orinana was adopted, just that she has no family, except for Jose Luis and Lina of course. I bet she was and is related to Paloma. That picture they keep showing is too much of a co-incidence. I remember the one from LFDD too ; )
Cynderella:
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your fab recap. So funny and snarky.
I am really liking the pace of this TN. The plot is moving so well. I am glad that Ricky is suspicious of Berto. But don't Berto and Raquel make a good pair?
Liked your Oscar Wilde quote, how true!
I don't know why, but I'm rooting for Mathilda. She's 100% right. "Ines" should be locked up; she's an absolute fraud. I hope she gets her comeuppance. In other words, I'm getting into this TN, even though I never thought my credulity could be stretched this far. For example, wouldn't someone have recognized "Inez's" Colombian accent immediately?
ReplyDeleteDoes Oriana have a Colombian accent? She was raised in Mexico her whole life. However, wouldn't the little girl have a Colombian accent?
ReplyDeleteCynderella, I SO love, love your take on things!! "Little Ricky Ricardo" indeed! I couldn't stop laughing at that one!
ReplyDeleteA few left over odds 'n ends from yesterday's capitulo: a) Either I dozed off or there was a continuity error, but in the scene where Orines is in the car with Padre Plaid, the scene takes place in daylight (in front of Ricky's house,I believe), then after the break they are still in Padre's car, but it is now NIGHT time and I "think" it is now in front of Paloma's house. Maybe I'm being too picky, but is the distance between Paloma's house and Ricky's house that great that it would go from broad daylight to night in such a short amount of time? The conversation in the car didn't lead me to believe that there had been a driving break. b) Paloma of the All Knowing Eyes really does not like that Antonio guy (the one we think is really SabeNada's father). I know this was mentioned yesterday, but when I saw the scene again, I was really struck by the background music AND the look on Paloma's face. Paloma knows a lot about this guy Antonio and I think it is much more than she is letting on as her reaction to him kissing her hand was almost one of revulsion.
No doubt the men in our Viewerville audience are probably thinking that Raquel is such a cutie, etc, etc, but last night, she was getting on my nerves. She's not quite in the brazen category, but she is getting there.
No one, however, tops that SLIME Berto. Oh my gosh, that man almost makes me want to barf when I see him. He has this puny little face which is made even punier (is there such a word?) and slimier (is there such a word?) with the ugly beard and greasy hair. He looks like a gigolo. He is a leech and, yet, he thinks that Orines would fall for his ugly self. I could have BARFED!!!
Ricky is playing the "keep your enemies close" card with Berto, but I can see this man wasting no time in trying to swindle, embezzle, or some such.
If Ricky doesn't watch it, he is going to lose focus what with SabeNada, Maria, Berta, and Raquel distracting him, not to mention the hots he has for Orines.
Yes, Vivi in DC, we all pretty much came to the agreement that Orines HAS to be related to Paloma after we first saw that portrait in Orines' room. It was just too obvious to miss.
Thank you to the mahvelous Cynderella!!

This is for our wonderful Jarocha, if she is out there somewhere in the blogosphere:
ReplyDeleteI've watched the Corazon Indomable off and on and honestly, I can't for the life of me, see why that novela got higher ratings in Mexico than MPV. This is my understanding from reading the comments on CI.
CI just seems so messed up and screwed up and "strange". The writing seems to have gone out the window. The writing on MPV is good with writers who are AWARE of their plots and sub plots and where they are headed.
I'm just really curious as to why CI would trump MPV in the ratings. Hope to hear from you as I very much enjoyed your insightful comments on QBA.
Gracias!
Fatima
I saw it mentioned in the recaps and comments I read through quickly, but Ferdinando Valencia (Berto) is a REALLY versatile actor! I'm amazed by just how many of the tns I've watched he's been in, and how each of his characters are so different:
ReplyDelete1) En Nombre del Amor: German- Lazy bad boy who betrays his best friend, impregnates the bad girl (Altair Jaraibo/Raquel), and is redeemed in the end.
2)Dinero: Rizos- Hot boxer, tough guy, and all around good guy.
3) Cuando me Enamoro: Chema- Loveable and cute young chef, with mile long lashes, who woos an older woman (who plays his older sister in this tn).
4) La Fuerza de Destino: Saul- Insecure, evil, country bumpkin, rich boy, rapist.
5) Por Ella Soy Eva: Renato- Closeted gay, uptight, workaholic pretty boy.
I think he’s one of my favorite non-galan actors.
Great job Cynderella, too bad Ricardo didn't say he wanted you instead of Ines. I feel your pain. I have it with my Telenovio Cristian too.
ReplyDeleteRaquel is turning very ugly, but the slap fest was hilarious. I've never slapped someone before, but after watching that I want to do it, except I would do it much harder than they did. I wish they would keep their fights more private and more quiet. With Madhilde lurking around every corner, she's going to overhear them one day.
So no DNA evidence=still alive. No question.
Didn't Raquel offer Berto a chance to stay at her new hotel? I fear that they are going to team up to defeat Ricardo and Ines.
cathyx, ITA re the Raquel/Berto pairing to try to harm Orines.
ReplyDeleteIn yesterday's episode, when Orines was telling Raquel to go ahead and blab that she, Orines, was an imposter,I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering if Matilde would pop up in a poof of smoke! LOL! You're right, tho'. Orines and Raquel need to keep the arguments just a bit more private.
Fatima
Depending on the heat of the fire at Jose Luis' place in Columbia, it would be hard to get DNA from burnt human remains. The heat of the fire can degrade the DNA contained in the bones. But I have a feeling, not a spoiler, that Jose Luis is alive. He was a step ahead this whole time, putting the ill gotten gains in an account in Oriana's name and having her flee. It would just be too easy if he were dead.
ReplyDeleteDiego Olivera is too pretty to die so soon in the story, and especially not in a fire.
ReplyDeleteI know this is bad to say, but I felt certain amount of glee when Sebastian found out who his real parents are.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can't help but think that Piero is a good guy down deep and he'll eventually fess up about Maria, or at least not deny sleeping with her that night if confronted.
Cynderella - Great recap. You did bring the funny, whether you think so or not. My favorite: "Needing no other proof, other than the stranger’s word, the gardener tells him to go right in and kill the whole family if he wants (just lock the door behind him on the way out)."
ReplyDeleteGlad Oriana turned down Ricardo. He's got a little bit to learn about seduction. "My son just found out I'm his dad, so let's make love" just doesn't cut it.
It would’ve been cute if Lina had a Colombian accent, but to me it’s realistic that it’s Mexican. I have a friend with a strong Bronx accent, and even though her youngest son was raised in Maryland he has it too – I guess thanks to those formative years before school.
Madelaine - "But don't Berto and Raquel make a good pair?" Sí! And I'm afraid I might wind up liking them too much.
Great recap, Cynderella,
ReplyDelete"I'm too tired to make it funny!
Well, thank goodness... I'd probably have died alaughin'.
cathyx,
"Raquel is turning very ugly..."
Are we watching the same show? When last I saw her last night she was smokin' hot.
Carlos
Well Berto and Raquel had hot chemistry in ENDA, so I'm sure they'd be hot here too.
ReplyDeleteCynderella thanks so much for your recap. While you may not have thought this was funny, but as you can see from the comments, we all do.
ReplyDeleteFatima - though the ratings for CI are high, in Mexico its played in the late afternoon not prime time. I don't know if that makes a difference. Unfortunately, it seems that Uni only uses Mexican ratings as a gauge and excuse to cut up La Tempestad to bits.
Cathyx - you are not bad for having glee regarding the bratty Sebastian. I hope he is able to turnaround by the end of the tn for Ricardo's sake but not holding my breathe.
Carlos, I so enjoy your consistent support of the bad girls in tns.
Karen, thank you for that bit of info re CI. I think that could very well make a difference as it might be a totally different audience in that time period.
ReplyDeleteI, too, do not understand the reasoning behind cutting and pasting La Tempestad. Mauricio over there (and the other recappers) go to great lengths to piece the whole story together. That is a lot of work!!
Fatima
