Abismo de pasión #71 6/20/12: Sister Kenya, you had best intentions but you motored-in too fast, and your price per flight in finding Mr. Right proved too high…

Recap by Marta Ivett

Other subtitles:
Gael has his first big brother tantrum…
Horacio slips into doom
Paloma slips her tongue into possible unemployment..
oh I forgot, Dam and Elisa got back together… zzzzzzzzzzzzzz …ff>> on that

Refritos:
Flo argue with Guido… she assures him no one will take cookie-Dam from MY JAR. Guido eye-rolls and waves white flag.
Tangel-Ho teasing Horacio… tries to recite a ‘you do as I say’ rulebook segment… not in my job description. …  She teases what if your dear Dolores finds out that you carry in your conscience a dead named Blanca Elizondo? He looks like he is getting sick…
Lolita and Elisa at backyard. Lolita tells Elisa about Horacio’s plans to put on a business. Elisa suggests talk to Lucio… not about money silly, about the locale where Nina had her business.
Elisa spots Kenya… you THAT obsessed with my dad? …

Lo Nuevo:
Continue Elisa/Kenya… I know you have reason to talk to me that way. But wanted to tell you that what I feel for your dad is no fairy tale movie, I love him…  Go away. … Your aunt Carmina has lied to you and your dad all your lives… What do you mean?... This is something have to talk to your daddy about first…
(Elisa sends Lolita away)..
This accusation is serious… The first to learn about this must be Augusto. But soon you will find out everything.
Kenya tells Elisa ask your dad to come looking for me… Elisa is misunderstanding…
E: No can’t do. You were always hypocrite, you lied to me, even when I asked you face to face what you had with my dad…
K: please, get your dad to find me. I assure you your lives will change.
Elisa still reluctant to listen.
T-H:(Pop goes the sleezel’) But I do! … (not sure the actual wording but Tangel-Ho warns Kenya into shutting up…) the only thing that will separate me from my husband is death.
K: I would not be so sure.

Back inside… Horacio is in Tangel-Ho’s hands… from today on you will be my slave. (Lolita comes in)
T-H: Hi Lolita! I was saying congrats to your fiancé.
Lolita counters: … Kenya is telling Elisa that you have lied to her and her dad all your live. Is that true?
Tangel-Ho runs out like mad…
Lolita very smiley with Horacio…

At Lucios’
Maru and Lucio are having a pleasant dinner… remember how Rosendo used to keep Gabino at bay?...
Lucio remembers the times he worked there… and she has worked there almost as long.
Maru remembers when she started there, Lucio was handing out invitations to his wedding to Nina… oopsie. Lucio is sad now… I understand, no one could compare to Nina… Maru takes the signal and shuts up and offers to do dishes. He won’t let her, so she heads out to leave. HE catches her at door. Thank you.. sure.
Ay blankita, blankita.  (snif…)

Paolo and Sabrina at bar/rest… Sabrina gives him a whole dissertation about how she got to be hairdresser/beauty consultant.
He sweet talks her… I knew you were crazy for (did she say Elisa or Carmina?)
He says that is over, and he now sees her differently, had not realized how she is truly… kiss…

Augusto and Inmundo walk together at downtown sidewalk…
Augie says Carmina is organizing a dinner party (would this new dinner party turn as disastrous as the one Augie organized to get Stefie and Alfie to make amends?)… don’t know if we will make it. Have a busy day tomorrow, but will move appointments to make the dinner.
They go into the rest/bar…  Sabrina sees them before they see her, so she hides under table (LOL!). Augusto and Inmundo get to see Paolo but not Sabrina…
Inm: that is the guy who was molesting Elisa, right?
Aug: Not only that, he also was bothering my wife…
The older ones leave. Sabrina pops back up. Paolo is ok with them leaving now.

Gael and Dam leaving rectory house,
Dam opens door, pop goes Kenya!…  Dam visibly uncomfortable.. Gael: Dam you go ahead, I have to talk to my sis…
G: Dam was a bit uncomfortable at seeing you, wasn’t he?..
K: don’t worry, I kissed him accidentally the other day…
G: SAY WHAT??? … What do you mean you kissed him by accident? There is no such thing as accidental kissing!! (well, I added a few words there… but he is really p__D, taking his big brother role very seriously)
K: nah. It was just a misunderstanding. BTW, can you hand this note to Augusto for me please?
G: … no wait, I know you are after Augusto… and about that whole business of following men around like that. That is WRONG!! It is just plain WRONG!! … Augie talked to me and said that he had felt strong attraction for you but it is over.
Kenya very excited to hear Augie felt for her.
Gael says he believed Augie that there was nothing and will be nothing between them.
Kenya tells Gael about the kiss, and tells Gael she will fight for Augie, ‘le pese a quien le pese’ (no matter who gets p___ off about it)… She goes away before Gael can counter…

Outside the church, Kenya runs into Padre… Padre thinks  she and Gael were arguing about their mother… not about her… can I help you? I am here to listen to you…
K: Thank you padre but I know perfectly what I am going to do… (again she runs out on him. But Carmina got to see them and maybe heard something… her evil stare probably matched by her evil brain gears rolling )..

At the Tovar manor, Begone-ya confronts Sabrina about who was she with last night… Begone-ya is not happy with it being Paolo. Remember what he did to Elisa… it was Elisa who provoked him!... let it be clear I don’t want you to go out with Paolo again… I am not a girl anymore and girls just wanna have fun!… you are not a woman either! Don’t see that man again!

Back at Lucio’s…
Elisa arrives and tells him about the confrontation with Alfonsina… Lucio assures Elisa Alfie won’t be able to do anything with Augie not having a criminal record and Padre Loopy’s testimony that the gun went off accidentally. Elisa still not totally bought.  Lucio says ‘I understand Alfie might be a bit miffed, since Dam started working at your green house.. he is going to work there to prevent mommy to keep your property.
Elisa runs out, leaving him at half-sentence…

1st comm brk

Alfie on phone… at procesa…
She is mad at someone, yells at them that Augie has to go back to jail for shooting my son! (hangs up)
Gabino comes in, she did not expect him, did not call for him (man! Talk about making someone feel they are just your puppet)… She tells Gabino Dam will not go back to procesa for a while, so you are in charge. (Gab must be yelling AAAAAALLELLUIAH!!)
Gab: Is he alright?
A:Yup.. and while you are here, I want you to find me a way to destroy Augie and his family. … the blow has to be definitive now, so they will leave La Ermita once and for all…
G: You can count on me unconditionally…
A: btw, what is up with Ingrid Navarro? ...
G: what do you mean?...
A: you know exactly what I mean…

Said II is visiting Kenya’s house… but no one is home.
(Wow never seen any woman with so many freckle spots on her chest).

At Casa Castigo grounds, Kenya runs into Horacio… she leaves the note for Augie with him… she stresses that it is very important that no one else sees it.  Promise me no one will find out, least of all Carmina… Horacio assures her the letter will get to Augie.

Back to Arango Hacienda…
Alfie says II was his secretary, I had asked you long ago to make her evaporate…
G:  I am just surprised you asked me about her after so long. There is no sign of her…
A: why do you lie to me? II is still in La Ermita!! Someone saw her talking to my son at la fonda!! . find her!! .. even under the stones, I am fed up with your incompetence…

Back at Lucio’s.
Lolita gets there, Lucio thinks she is looking for Elisa. He Elisa her Dam is working in her green house, she ran out… even took my horse.  Lolita worried, how will all this end?... Lucio confident by now Elisa and Dam are making amends already. Lolita also came to talk to Lucio… she shyly tells him she has a boyfriend, Horacio, will marry soon.  He is happy for her… are you going to ask me to be best man of something?... no, although it is not a bad idea. My boyfriend wants to start a business, I want to give him my savings, and was going to ask you to rent me the locale where Dona Blanca had her business. Lucio gets instantly sad with memories.
Back at Lucio’s…
Lucio asks Lolita why didn’t her fiancé come personally to make the request?
Lolita says he (Horacio) doesn’t even know, Alfie fired him from hacienda only for defending Elisa…
(should have started there!) Lucio is already liking Horacio… give me a sec… (gets the keys for Lolita). Here are the keys… but you know that place is all messed up. I only fixed the facade.
Lolita says not to worry, we will take care of the rest. Just want to agree on a rent amount..
Lu: Nonsense!, take it  as a wedding gift. Lolita won’t accept, Lucio says ok, after wedding, when you are doing well in business, then we will fix a rent amount. You won’t change my mind…
Lolita says you are alone only because you want to, you are an angel. I love you so much. Me too.
(that was a cheesecaky-berriesontop-sweet scene, have to say)

At greenhouse.
Dam and Gael… Seems Gael was arguing with Dam about the kiss with Kenya… Dam says he understands Gael’s concern.
Elisa arrives mad,
D: are you not glad I am working here?
E: Of course not, came to ask you to leave.

Back at Green house:
Elisa still mad at Dam, Dam has to grab Elisa hard, Gael not happy watching from a few habanero rows back … she finds it hard to resist, but finds strength to push Dam away…
Elisa runs out, Dam in hot pursuit, Gael nods not liking what just happened…
Elisa gets on horseback… Dam follows her jumping on his white horse… you can tell she is a much better rider than he (he used to be good, according to Rosendo, but has not practiced in long time, I guess)
Elisa and Dam on horse, Dam falls. Elisa gets scared for him.. runs to him..
E: Are you alright? … are you alright?
he tricks her, letting her get real close and then he grabs her firmly for a kiss… she can’t resist this time.

at Cenote…
T-H: too bad my husband and Elisa won’t find out… (DANG!! Horacio gave her the letter! Ok that does it! I will never sit at Horacio’s table again. I am sure he will die saving one of the good ones, but he had no good reason to give the letter to Carmina… Carmina had no knowledge of that letter and would not know who would have given it to Augie.. so Sorry Horacio, you just lost my vote and prayers)..  my employee gave me your letter… lets say he owes me…
K: Glad you are here, Carm. I will give you the chance to leave La Ermita for good before your secret is out. Remember you told me you were interested in finding the secret I learned about you? about your sister, Augie’s first wife, Stefie… Augie has not had a second of peace ever since he heard that she had betrayed him with that man.. but it was you, Carmina! It was you the lover of Rosendo Arango, it was you the one that was going to escape with him!
(ok, Kenya must have definitely gone mad for her obsession with AUgie, if she expects Carmina to just go away like that just by her asking)
(comm break, the producers show a bit of pity for a character, giving K a few more seconds of life)
T-H: How can you prove what you are saying? …
K: you are denying it, right?...
T-H: I am denying it of course, since it is a lie…
K: Go away Carmina! By the time he finds out you could be far away, go home, pack your bags and go away! Don’t you realize you are complicating everything?

Back to cenote…
Carmina tries to buy Kenya’s silence…
T-H: I will get you any amount you want…
K: no, all I want from you is your husband, and to get him I need you to evaporate, to just go away …  T-T-H: (with a healthy dose of crocodile tears) I can’t. I need a couple days...
K: I won’t give you even one day, I want you to go away…
T-H: I can’t abandon him…
K: Please!, Augie won’t suffer, you are no Stefie!...
T-H: and neither are you! you think he will be happy just with my disappearing?...
K: I love him!! I can try to make him happy, Elisa and he will be able to heal the wounds of Stefie, he will start a new life with me. I am young. I can give Augie the child you could never give him!
(dang, Kenya! Did you really need to tell her that? Don’t you know that is her Achilles heel?)...
T-H: SHUT UP!! SHUT UP!! maldita imbecil!!!...
Carmina looks around and finds a huge stick and hits Kenya right over head… then Carmina drowns Kenya.. when Kenya is nonresponsive, Carmina seems very shocked/impactada..
(AARRGGHHH!!!! No Ramona in sight… sigh … RIP Kenya)

At procesa…
Horacio stops by to see Braulio… he is looking for Dam, Brau says he won’t be back for God knows how long. Brau comments to Horacio that procesa workers all are miffed again to be under Gabino’s command. Horacio wanted to see Dam about a loan… Brau tells him Tona told him the story about Alfie firing him. Also know about him proposing to Lolita. Horacio wanted the money to move forward and marry her. Want to open a butcher business. Braul offers his savings (awww that is nice) as a loan. But on one condition, Lolita cannot find out I gave you the money. Thank you Brau.. hug, but Brau  not into it.

II went to Casa Castigo to find Kenya…
Augie tells II Kenya  is not there, and that he broke all relationship/contact with Kenya…
Aug: She came by a couple times but I was very cold with her. Wanted to end all this mess once and for all. I won’t split with Carmina.
II is very worried that Kenya could do something crazy to separate him from Carmina... (now that makes me remember how crazy Kenya was stalking Paolo around in MC before any of them arrived at La Ermita so I see where II is going with this) Augie says he doubts that Kenya has the weapons to do something like that.   (Sorry I missed last line Augie told her, my guess is something about Carmina). II responds don’t be so sure.

Later At cenote,
Carmina is sitting at a rock watching the water, crying..
T-H: who told you ?? .. must have been Gabino… Gabino and your mother are together against me!... (she is looking into nowhere like going really crazy… scary)

At lake, Ramona and Padre Loopy… its hot!!... this is almost paradise! It IS paradise! Ramona happy she found a bracelet Paloma had lost by the cenote… she will be happy I found it!.. Padre comments that it is magical.. she lost it at cenote and it appears here at lake, it is a miracle!... Ramona says there are underground water streams connecting all these water ways… it would not be first time that things appear in this lake.. (anvil!! Anvil! Place your bets!! Place your bets!! I say Kenya’s body will end up floating on lake sooner rather than later)… Padre asks her what she decided on what he talked to her about (telling all about the accident). Ramona has not decided yet… But even the ground will shake when Don Augie finds out what happened that day, and that day will be here sooner or later.. and no one can prevent that..

The lovebirds… (have to say the spot they are on is greener and more springy than any other spot we have seen in La Ermita. It must have same irrigation system that Augie’s habanero fields have)
Elisa: your mommy won’t rest until she destroys me and my dad.
Dam:  If she does she will have to destroy me too…
Elisa: we still are not married…
Dam: but soon we will be husband and wife…
Elisa: I don’t want my dad to hurt you again… you know what he is capable of…
Dam: nothing matters other than us being together..
Elisa: for how long?...
Dam: for life…

At dr T office,
Alfie arrives to see Inmundo…
Paloma is pretty dry/smart with her.. reminds Alfie she has to make appointment. ..
Alfie: I am not as ‘toda la gente’.. since last night my blood pressure came down hard, so need to see him to check if it is serious…
Pal: he is not here, he went to see Don Augie. Why don’t you go to the clinic? You don’t look that good. I know Dam ended up at padre Loopy’s.
Alfie tries to bring up the ‘affair’ between Inmundo and Paloma, Paloma slips her tongue and says the one that doctor was rolling over the gauze pads and bandages with was Carmina Bouvier!!..
Alfie impactada, smiles and leaves with the hot gossip.. Paloma feels bad she slipped her tongue.

Dam arrives at new home only to find Flo waiting for him
F:  Why did you leave with no word? …
D: sorry, I had a huge argument with mommy and I had to leave and did not stop to punch my card or sign out…. (Elisa arrives)… By the way, Flo, Elisa and I are back together…
F: (Flo puts the devastated drama queen act … )
D: Sorry I did you wrong, it was not manly to get back together with you for spite on Elisa… forgive me…
F: No! I won’t forgive you! And when she sends you packing again, don’t bother looking for me!..
El: I better go…
D: no! please Elisa!...
El: I thought you had talked to her!...
D: The one that looked for me was you. At the green house…
El: Now your mom will think I lied to you and that I broke the deal we had. I am very worried, I don’t know when your mother will try another blow against me or my dad!
D: (he hugs her)… let’s not worry about that… at least for today.. (hug and kiss)…

Previews:
Carmina and Inmundo.. seems Carmina is teasing/necking Inmundo into doing her another favor.
Alfie and Augie.. seems she tells him about Inmundo and Carmina…
Augie goes to bar/rest and punches Inmundo.. didn’t catch who else is there, my guess is Enrique or Lucio.
Flo tattle-tell-whines to Alfie about Dam and Elisa making up…
Dam and Elisa with little clothing making out at cenote.

  1. Marta, excellent recap! Wow, what an episode. Great title, playing off the Sister Christian song. Except that Kenia wasn't all right tonight, boo hoo.

Yowza, tonight was a night of people blabbing the right thing to the wrong people, and others blabbing the wrong thing to whoever was around.

You wondered who Sabrina was talking about, she told Paolo she knew he was crazy for Elisa. And too bad Doc T didn't see Paolo macking on her, shoot!

Dang, that was some bad editing, jumping from the greenhouse to the cenote where Carmina was wading around in her boots. Marta I agree, we are throwing Horacio's table onto the bonfire! "the producers show a bit of pity for a character, giving K a few more seconds of life", lol! Sad but true. Also sad, Kenia kind of asked for that bonk on the head. Subtle she ain't, er, wasn't.

Wow, Sabine does crazy really well! I believed her crazy eyes.

Dam might not be the best rider but he (or his double) did a Dam good job jumping up on said horse.

This was a funny line about Dam: "I had to leave and did not stop to punch my card or sign out". Marta, your editorial comments always crack me up.

Well, I was exhausted after this episode. One anvil fell and so many more were set up. Thanks Marta. You deserve your pitcher of Fuzzy Navels tonight.

  2. Marta: As usual, this was amazing. Your title was perfect - sad but absolutely on target.

Your insights are always on target: "Gael has his first big brother tantrum", "Paloma slips her tongue into possible unemployment" and "(would this new dinner party turn as disastrous as the one Augie organized to get Stefie and Alfie to make amends?)" were my favs.

I found this a very sad episode.

And Kenia: "I can give Augie the child you could never give him! (dang, Kenya! Did you really need to tell her that? Don’t you know that is her Achilles heel?)... T-H: SHUT UP!! SHUT UP!! maldita imbecil!!" Oh Marta, you were so right.

Kenia's death was so sad. Abuse at the hands of her monstrous mother, scorn and rejection by Paolo. A life with much promise, ended far too quickly. I hope she finds the love in her afterlife she never found on earth.

When Ramona and Padre were at the water's edge did anyone else expect to see Kenia's body floating by?

Marta, I was stunned that Horacio gave Carmina the letter. Although I've removed my chair from his table, I am certain he did not think handing the letter over would lead to murder. Once he realizes Kenia died, he will put two and two together and will be devasted. This will likely fuel the hatred he already feels for Carmina. And Lolita. How could things be going so horribly wrong? Her heart is going to be shattered.

Paloma's loose lips are going to cause major problems for Dr. Tovar.

Sylvia, I thought it was definitely Dam that made that great mount. I was impressed!

Dam and Elisa who??? Too many other more interesting storylines going on here.

    Thanks again Marta.

  3. Marta, you rock. This recap is a thing of beauty.

Kenia is gone now (Part of me is still hoping for one of those magical TN resurrections, but I know...sigh) and shall forever be a Saint in my mind. For facing Carmina, if for nothing else. St Kenia. en paz descansa...

Uhhh if Dam and Lovergirl (whom in this case is Elisa but I don't doubt for a minute that Flo is done-Its only #71, for pete's sake, and both Flo and Alfie are still living, conniving bitches) are standing by the cenote, pleaaase don't let them jump in next to the body!! Yuck!!
I'll check back in later, thanks for doing these recaps!! (to all recappers)

  4. Great work!

Carmeana won't be in shock for long. She will gloat privately over this for a while.

Since there was nothing in the avances about finding Kenia's body I suspect that won't happen until tomorrow's episode. Can't wait for Ingrid's crocodile tears.

  5. The episode with Lolita and Lucio--sooo sad and sweet. Ay mi corazon, sigh. You know, if this hadn't been the kill-Kenia-off episode, I think this could have been the main scene of the night. It drives sooo many points. Lolita is practically committing to marry Jerkhead now, set up shop right where he killed Blanca, He fed Kenia to Carmina, and that, my friends, is where his trouble really heats up. Anyone else think he's being set up to take down Carmina? With all the anvils over his head (and seriously, with his track record, he's not far off from Carmina) is killing/outing Carmina enough to let him have the hero's death??

    ReplyDelete
  6. Great title!!! I also loved the Carmina's evil brain gears and the cheesecakey berries on top sweet scene comments.

Here's my take on Horacio (yes, I'm going to defend him.): I got the impression that when the Rotten Orange saw Kenya (DEP)she started following her. That being my impression, I assumed that Tangel-HO saw the letter exchange and got it from Horacio. I just can't see him turning it over to her if she didn't know about it. I may be at the table by myself.

Poor Gael! His last exchange with his sister is an argument. This breaks my heart and I am very, very saddened by it.

OT: As a knitter/crocheter I just want to say that I thought Elisa's crochet vest was hideous. It doesn't not do crochet any favors. Maybe...maybe...it could have been saved if it had been done in one color.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Crap. Double negative. "It doesn't do crochet any favors." -_-

Oh, and ING suddenly is concerned about Kenia?? Beech, Puh-leeze.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sarah,
hmmm your defense argument for Horacio makes a lot of sense... yes, she could have been following Kenya from church so she might have known of the letter and that way Horacio had no choice but to hand it over to her. so maybe I was too harsh on him...

also totally agree with Poor Gael's last interchange with his sister was an argument... yikes!
    heartbreaking indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  9. so maybe I was too harsh on him...
    ----
Well, we don't know for sure. If it comes to pass that he did hand over the letter then you will be right and you can say "I told you so. So nyah" :-)

In the avances it looks as though Elisa will stumble upon it at the cenote.

Speaking of the cenote scene...Why did Kenia randomly go there? Was this just bad editing? Did I miss some dialogue where she expected Augie to meet her there?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Sara: I hope you are right about the letter! Your explanation is a good one and makes perfect sense.

  11. Finally finished watching all the episodes up o last night's. Good thing I am finally out on vacation. Thanks to UA for that link yesterday. Just getting back from a two week business trip to France and I can't imagine anything better to get back to than two weeks of AdP accompanied by some great recaps. Thanks to all the recaps!

Still processing the events from the last two weeks right now and still overcoming the fresh wound of seeing Kenia's final battle...

  12. One good stiff Tequila after last night's episode was just not enough. Wow, that was all over the place last night and thankfully the retelling was safely in Marta's expert hands.

Yes, a moment of silence for poor Sister Kenia. Naive to be sure...too young to realize this is not how you handle things. That one freeze frame from Creamsicle- or should I call her Rust-o-leum (man she was dark and evil last night) just said "You need to die". You could see the switch flip. Now she has crossed the line, who's next on her hit list? This beyotch is going to go down hard...or we hope.

My brain will just not go there yet that Horacio just handed over the letter to Rusty. It could be as simple as him leaving it on the office desk and she finding it....just would boggle my mind if he handed it right to her after the way she just talked to him. But we've been disappointed in characters before.

Oh yeah, were Dam-El all kissy huggy? WHY is this starting to bore the tears out of me? I was like "whatever...let's move on". (And, horrors, I actually enjoyed Flo laying into him because he was STOOPID to jump right back in with her and lead her on.)And I'm sorry--rather silly jump on the horse move by Dam (this is not a western guy), but he makes the worst looking gringo. When he stands next to Gael with his hat and neck scarf, he just comes off to me like someone playing at being a regular guy vs Gael as the real deal.

Lucio has my heart. Of everyone in this TN, I so want him and Gael to have their happy ending. The rest...meh.

Paloma--girl, you need to learn to SHUT UP!

Next couple days may not be too pleasant. We're going to need some extra pitchers of margaritas, bottles of tequila or some nice mellow vino to get us thru. Deep breaths everyone!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Don't worry about the Horacio table, Sara. There's just more in the pitcher for us.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I too thought it was Dam himself jumping on the horse, and remembering he usually wears tigh jeans, they must be very stretch for him to split his legs wide enough to jump on the saddle like that.

about the letter landing in Elisa's hands... do you all expect Elisa to do anything about it other than be glad her mother was indeed innocent? would she feel pressured by Alfie to keep quiet?

about Kenya going to the cenote... that was nasty editing, we don't know why she ends up there but suddenly both her and Carmina were there. My guess is that since she did not find him at his house. maybe she looked for him at Cielo abierto and did not find him then remembered he had stopped by the cenote a couple times.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Maybe Kenia's note to Augusto said to meet her at the cenote -- if that note surfaces (whoops, bad choice of words), Augusto could be cat food on toast.

    ReplyDelete
  16. good point, Blue... maybe the letter itself doesn't say much other than repeating what she had already told Elisa, that she knew something that would change his and Elisa's lives.. that Carmina had lied to them all along, but no details about exactly what the lie was about.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Marta - thank you for the recap! Lots of great, snarky comments and well done.

I noticed the weird editing, too, with the instant blip over to the cenote. I wonder what they cut out.

I was impressed with Dam jumping onto his horse. Ride 'em cowboy.

    - Why on earth would Kenia give that letter (for Augusto) to some random employee she has never seen before? Qué the ****? Well, she's never been known for her good judgement. Just sayin'. . .

As soon as I saw Ramona fishing at Blue Lagoon, I figure her Catch of The Day would be Kenia. Keep fishing, Ramona, and I'll tune in tomorrow.

Paloma's loose lips may 'out' Doc Tovar, but there have been quite a few moments when I wanted him to come clean with Begonia ever since she and Carmina have become BFFs. Seriously. Man up, get it out into the open, suffer the consequences, and move on.

Sara - "It doesn't do crochet any favors." BuaHahahahahaaaaa!
It looked like yet another shrunken negligee top. What was with the orange string thingys? Whoever chooses her clothes should be fired. It is one thing for the telenovela heroine to have a wardrobe that comes from GoodWill, but it's another when it comes from the BadTasteDumpster.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Marta, outstanding! Like Sylvia said,  your editorial comments are delightful!

On Camina: " her evil stare probably matched by her evil brain gears rolling .." Oh my goodness, that stare was straight from hell!

(Could) "the producers show a bit of pity for a character, giving K a few more seconds of life?"   I think EVERYONE in viewerville is depressed today!

"doctor (Tovar) was rolling over the gauze pads and bandages with was Carmina Bouvier!!" Hilarious! I know it is wrong and just plain dangerous to hit someone with a vodka bottle, but no paper bag for me at the Augusto table, Dr. T made a HUGE mistake with his walk on the "Rustoleum" (good one Daisy) side!

Corny me, it always made me so sad when Kenia alternated between calling her mother Madre then Ingrid..sad life, sadder ending. (Unless we are given a miracle)

  19. "Lucio has my heart. Of everyone in this TN, I so want him and Gael to have their happy ending. The rest...meh."
My chair has been at this table for ages. Last night, I FFWD--> thru the DamLisa scenes.

There was a telenovela sometime this past year, where a woman walked into a cenote and drowned herself at the very end. Maybe this is the same cenote.

Don Lucio is wonderful. I echo the "happy ending for Lucio and Gael" sentiments.

  21. It is one thing for the telenovela heroine to have a wardrobe that comes from GoodWill, but it's another when it comes from the BadTasteDumpster.
ROFLOL!! i stopped caring what she wears when i gave up on her wearing anything nice since that engagement party (she has to wear her mother's clothes to look nice, even the blue jean dress she had on that day earlier in the day was decent... but anything since has been reason to look elsewhere.

  22. What are you serving at the Lucio table, Doris?

  23. Poor Kenia. What an awful end.

I assumed that Carmina kept following Kenia and saw the note exchange. I also thought that the note must have said to meet her at the cenote, so I wasn't surprised by her being there. I was more suprised that she was wading in the water wearing jeans that weren't rolled up, instead of her usual flirty skirts or those boy shorts Augie liked so much when her first spotted her loveliness emerging from the cenote.

I hope the note actually gives some real info, and doesn't just say "Meet me at the cenote because I have something important to tell you." If the note is vague, and Kenia's body shows up, it will look really bad for Augie. I am guessing that's how it's going to play out.

I loved the scene with Lucio and Lolita. I am so not looking forward to that Horacio anvil that will hit her eventually. Let's see how Horacio reacts when Lolita offers him the place he killed Blanca for his business. I think Horacio is going to start having some trouble sleeping at night.

  24. daisynjay and sara,
ITA about DZ looking better in suits and 'out of place' in cowboy attire... MT(Gael) looks good in anything though. in LHDM he wore very expensive suits, cashmere sweaters, mariachi suits and even beach playeras ... and he looked just as good in any ... here in plaid shirts, cowboy hats, tee shirts and tight jeans (best of all shirtless, of course) he still looks yummy and real...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Doris- That tn was Mi Pecado (same original writers), but it took place in the Chiapas region I believe. It was a rushing river near a waterfall (where her son drowned), not a cenote.

  27. Quick question: I had a short phone call while Rusty was waxing insanity after offing Kenia. When they were arguing, Rusty just crumbled up the note and threw it aside. She never did grab it back did she? She can we assume, as everyone is commenting, that it is still laying out in the Cenote?

I will now go back to work while hugging my I heart Ga-Lu shirt. ( And trying to stay out of this sweltering heart in NE Ohio--awful day!)

    ReplyDelete
  28. so the only ones that know WHY kenya was killed really were Carmina and II (and maybe Gabino)(II must guess it was about KEnya opening her mouth or revealing to one too many people about the plane tickets...)
what will II do with the info? Will she talk or will she be Carmina's next target practice? what about Gabino? what will he do?

    ReplyDelete
  29. daisynjay - No, they never showed Carmina grabbing the note back from the shore of the cenote.

Vivi in DC - I didn't watch Mi Pecado and only caught that last episode. Nice to know it's not the same cenote.

No stairs in anyone's homes here on AdP, so no escaleracide. Insteade, we have cenoticide. Gah.

BlueLass - I am serving chocolate, and lots of it, with whatever liquid refreshment you desire. Lucio rocks. ;-)

  30. The great irony of this novela is, other than one little fake pregnancy,(a novela no biggy!) Flo is the novia that most mothers would want for their son! Yes, she did have a dress that matched the Partridge Family bus, but she still looks heads and shoulders better than Elisa and really she had been more deprssed than evil. Bless her heart, the BadTasteDumpster that Elisa has been shopping in must have been in La Ermita’s red light district. If you know that you are going down to the habanero fields which are being worked mostly by men, why would you wear your “Klute” outfit!!! Our poor dear Elisa.......Estefania would have stopped all of this!

There have been so many knowing comments by Ramona, I wonder if she will be the one to make the final reveal, in her own sweet time, of course!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow, Marta. Great job on a very difficult episode.

Sara, I certainly don't want to discourage your loyalty to Horacio, but until it's confirmed that he had no choice but to hand over the note, I'm going to think the worst. It's been said here that he didn't intend to kill Blanca, which is true, but he did intend to kill Lucio. After tossing in the fire bomb, don't forget, he padlocked the door.

Also, I'm quite sure that the note asked Augusto to meet Kenia at the cenote... I think before announcing that, "...my employee gave me your letter… lets say he owes me...", that Carmina told her that Augusto wouldn't be coming.

I got a kick out of Sabrina's conversation with Paolo. She told him that she originally planned to be a Dr. like her dad but couldn't handle the needles or the blood so she decided to become a beauty consultant.

What a coincidence... that was my plan B as well.

As for Damien's impressive mount, I thought that Elisa's mount was...ummm...distracting. I tried to avert my eyes but drat... too late.

    And Doris,

"As soon as I saw Ramona fishing at Blue Lagoon, I figure her Catch of The Day would be Kenia."

I'm embarrassed to admit it, you made me laugh.

  38. Thanks Doris. So the potential is out there for someone to find it if crazy Beyotch doesn't grab it. Since Ramona will most likely do the Kenia-fishing and it would hard to think her finding the note and the body, who else goes to the Cenote but the fearsome foursome and Assgusto? Dam-El would hide it, Gael doesn't seem a logical choice to find it, and Pal would read it and shout it from the rooftops so not sure if the writers want that to come out right away. Could be interesting how that note plays out.

I'm starting to wonder what Gael's reaction might be if he finds out Pal caused the problem for the Doc by spilling secrets to Alfi? Something has to happen soon to implode those two. Ramona's prophecies and all. (And I'm sort of a becoming a fan of Gael driving off into the sunset with his share of the fortune to start a new life. Not sure I want himn with either Pal or Elisa at this point).

  41. I can't imagine being able to ride a horse with one's legs bare like that. What is the wardrobe department thinking here?

Ass for Florencia, she is a needy brat! Any girl who tries to trap a guy into marriage using pregnancy -- even a fake one -- can't be trusted.

    ReplyDelete
  42. daisynjay,
we must be twins thinking so alike most of the time...
who else goes to the Cenote but the fearsome foursome and Assgusto? Dam-El would hide it, Gael doesn't seem a logical choice to find it, and Pal would read it and shout it from the rooftop...
I think if Dam/Elisa find it they will think it was all about the Augie/Kenya relationship and i agree they would hide it so Augie's name does not get mudded.

I'm sort of a becoming a fan of Gael driving off into the sunset with his share of the fortune to start a new life. Not sure I want himn with either Pal or Elisa at this point.
that would be the more realistic finale for Gael...
however, i think the novela will go with the usual Dam/Elisa and Gael/Paloma pairings in the end, which means Gael will take care of all the 'fields' side of the family business while Dam takes care of the 'admin/operations' side. they will work side by side and put it all on one basket (Augie's lands, Stefie's lands and the procesadora will be one huge family business when it is all over.) that is the usual finale 'all lived happily ever after'. But I agree that Gael should get a big chunk of money and just start a new life elsewhere (except that would leave Loopy very lonely behind, how about it, Gael? take him along?).

    ReplyDelete
  43. ok that didn't work. how do you do italics here? do you italicize before posting?

    ReplyDelete
  44. UA, it might be best for the young men of La Ermita to look in Merida for their novias.

Paloma has been throwing herself pitifully at Gael for the entire novela.

Elisa turns herself into Teresa at intervals.

Flo did try the fake pregnancy trap.

Sabrina, despite warnings, continues to flirt with Paulo, too old and very bad!

I’ve tried italics as well here, which are so much better than caps, but can’t make them work. Marta, maybe there is a secret we don’t know.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's been written by the experts here that villains are often given the 'meaty' roles in these novelas.

I'd be hard pressed to call Kenia a villain (her role seemed somewhat ambiguous in the beginning), but her role has been so much more interesting to me relative to the role played by Elisa.

Maybe it's just the actors, but the Kenia actor has interested me so much more. She has made her role believable. I'm sure she will far surpass some of her contemporaries (i.e., Maite Tilt Head Perroni)in terms of getting good roles in the future.

Boyer simply does not interest me one iota. From the ridiculous outfits (that seem to confirm everything that people whisper about her) to the endless crying..both Boyer and the Elisa character are flat out boring.

If she had ridden that horse long enough with those ridiculous pants, she'd have crotch burn for sure. Zepeda is not so hot in the riding dept, either. That crazy pumping of his right hand as he is riding is the mark of an unaccomplished rider. Oh well...a mere triviality.

I've been rooting for Kenia and now she is gone. Why in the world she saw anything in that abusive loser known as Assgusto is beyond me, but I am so sad to see this character leave. Augusto is a fool and an abusive fool at that. The homely looking actor aside, I just wonder what in the world minors (Stefi and Kenia) saw in this man? Didn't Stefi comment on his fits of jealousy in the early scenes?

The abuse he has showered on Elisa just didn't appear out of nowhere. It's hard to believe that he has achieved redemption status simply because he wants to save Elisa's lands. Really, that's all it takes to wipe the slate clean?

Anyway, the jury is still out on this fool. It was very hard to watch Kenia 'fall' for this man, but even harder to see a good character leave.

Now, I am only rooting for Lolita and Lucio. As for Dam and Elisa...well...blah...who cares?

Heck watching Paolo be all slimy with Sabina was actually more fun. have to admit, he does slimy so well. Even better without the shirt...hello, writers, are you listening???

Forgot to mention earlier--was it me, or did anyone else notice the down-right look of hatred flick across Gabino's eyes as Alfi chewed him out? he didn't seem quite so groveling either as he has been in the past...makes one wonder what those gears spinning in his brain are planning.

The recap does not give an answer to this. And I don’t have this recorded so I can’t figure it out. Question: did Kenia reference the plane ticket to Carmina? Or did Carmina just remember Gabino had the plane tickets and somehow Kenia found out? Carmina is certainly focused on both Gabino and Ingrid as the ones who have proof to sink her and expose her well crafted lies about Stefie’s infidelity and Elisa’s parentage.

  61. again, sis... ITA with you on Gabino's attitude at Alfie's barking at him changing over time... at first i guess he had a hope that someday Alfie would look at him with different eyes and he would become the owner of all of the Arango empire, even if he had to withstand being married to Alfie... but now he has had enough of her stepping on him and treating him like a dog... i am ready for Gabino backstabbing Alfie any moment now... he definitely has more weapons (knows more than anyone else in town) about her closet's skeletons to have a field day with her reputation... starting with her being SO WRONG about Stefie and Elisa, which would take her from QUEEN status to TRASHTALKER status in town. let alone her ordering him on most of the dirty deeds that he had a hand in...

and about Paolo and Sabrina scene, ITA, furthermore i think the appearance of Inmundo and Assusto saved her from being boinked that night... not that it won't happen anytime soon... Paolo is Paolo after all... and he has not 'done it' for a while now, so he is past his next boinking due date.

  71. Great recap as usual Marta. My favorite line:

"no one takes cookie-Dam from MY JAR" Yes, our Florencia certainly has entitlement issues when it comes to Damian.

Next fave: "cheesecakey-berriesontop-sweet scene, have to say" (this actress has brought a lot of simple girlish mannerisms to this role. I've seen her do sophisticated very well in the past. She really has a wonderful range.)

    Favorite Marta comment:
[Paolo]" past his next boinking due date" Wicked awesome Marta!

I am officially in mourning. I hated seeing Kenia die, even though she looked angelic and peaceful floating there in the water. Hope the NDE people are right, and she drifted towards the light and love of the "más allá" Life in the next world has to be better than her life in this one was.

No, the letter has nothing about Estafanía in it. After reading it, Carmina was still pumping Kenia for info about what secret she knew....and was horrified when Kenia said it concerned her sister/ Augusto's first wife. I actually don't think the letter even refers to Carmina or any secret at all. Carmins refers to it as a "carta de amor" (love letter, and yes,in it Kenia does ask Augusto to meet her at the cenote.)And she already knew (from the night before) that Kenia had some sort of goods on her that she was going to reveal to Augusto. Kenia reiterates this right away in the cenote scene.

Kenia didn't mention the plane tickets to Carmina, who has no idea HOW Kenia learned what she did. She was going over the people who know the truth and could have revealed it to Kenia, and Gabino was one of them. She doesn't know that Ingrid knows, but knows that Ingrid is the link between Kenia and Gabino.

  73. The actor that plays Florencia has impressed me in her most recent scenes. She does sad-wounded-betrayed with real pathos....I actually felt the urge to comfort her. Why don't they give her a protagonista role? I think I've only seen her as an antagonista, or at least (as in the case) someone at odds with the heroína.

Since they insist on giving us protagonistas that are always boo-hooing about something, they should get someone that can do it with more realism.

  74. Oh wow, I waited too long to join the party and you all have said what I was thinking -- but it doesn't hurt to repeat: This was a spectacular recap, Marta, of a depressing episode.

    Personally, I think

    >Horacio DID give Carmina the letter. (The thing about Horacio is he is dumb as a brick and has no imagination. Just a well-developed upper body and an eye for a good woman.)

    >That the letter said, "I love you Augusto, meet me at the cenote b/c I have s/t to tell you that will change your life" (Remember, Orange-ho seemed to be, you should excuse the expression, fishing for what Kenia actually knew.)

    >That we can't say for sure that Kenia is dead until her body appears. But dead or alive, she is going to wash up on the shores of Lake Ramona.

Carlos, I also cracked up at clueless Sabrina's reasoning on her career choice: Medicine? Cosmetology? What to do? (Of course she may be able to combine careers if she adds aesthetic procedures to her salon's offerings. Or maybe Daddy could work for her. His regular practice may be jeopardized when his Orange dalliance is outed.)

Best unintentional humor of the night: Profile of Elisa and Dam. Her upper chest bolsters seem to act as defense devices keeping Dam from getting to close when he tries to embrace her. Camera crew: Avoid these full profile shots unless you're going for a laugh.

And as for Elisa riding in that outfit -- there's not enough Gold Bond Ointment in the world...

Julia, daisynjay, believe it or not in LHDM the robe use was tied to an 'identity' issue with his character... we 'parceras' hated every time he wore it, because it brought back the not so desirable aspect of his old 'identity' back out. except the very last time he wore it, right before his wedding.

  89. Oops. OKay, R la O. Let's try Girls Gone Geeky --

I loved Paloma's use of one of my favorite idioms when she blurted out to Alfie that she was not longer willing to "Pagar los platos rotos" for Elisa's aunt. {Pay for the broken dishes, take the blame or pay the consequences for someone else's bad behavior.)

  90. "It's looking like we're never going to get Amor Bravío on Univision."

No, no, no no no no no no...refuse to believe that the brain-trust, and I use that term loosely, at Uni would be that stooopid. Why does there have to be two hours of Refugio, which isn't awful, I caught a few episodes, but take it to one hour and put something else in at 7 or 8. Gees.

We will be serving some extra shots at the Lowered Expectations Table to drown our pithed off attitudes over that news if anyone cares to join.

daisynjay - methinks you have gotten up and walked away from your seat at the Table of Lowered Expectations.
;-) Never underestimate 'the great brain trust' at Looneyvision and their capacity to do the inexplicable.

  92. Oh jeez, sorry I created such a stir. I guess I was writing hyperbolically. No, I didn't have any real info about Amor Bravío, but after seeing how many episodes have already been shown in México without even a "Múy pronto" ad on Univision, I was becoming pessimistic, especially after seeing the ads for Por Ella Soy Eva. But I just checked the Wikipedia article for the 1st time in awhile and see that Uni has confirmed it will get a slot for 2012-13, and a prime-time one. I noticed also that they are planning 220 episodes! So the # of episodes already shown becomes less significant....but I hope it'll really be something "fuera de lo común," (and good) otherwise 220 capítulos will be a bit much.

  94. Thank you Karamy. It sounds like Amor Bravio will air later this year. Whew! Silvia Navarro is our favorite.

Also, I want to caution everyone about researching telenovelas on Wikipedia. They have a nasty habit of placing bit honking spoilers front and center, such as who killed whom, etc. So if you don't want to know what happens you might want to avoid Wikipedia entries.

  95. so who is on amor bravio besides Sylvia N?.. haven't heard anything about that one.

  96. Marta: wonderful recap, sorry to see Kenia go, the actress was good and her inclusion in the story seemed like one of the good changes to the story. I hoped they could give Gael another family member since I'm not sure the relationship with Damián is as well developed as it should, with Elisa in the middle and all.

I was also sad to see Carmina turn into a murderer like this, especially so soon into the story.

I'm sure Univision will eventually get Amor Bravío, it's just that they are always behind Mexico's schedule (you'd think that would help them make better captions). Adding Refugio must have also delayed the showing of other novelas but Refugio's surprising boom in Mexico (nobody saw that coming, it's the little novela that could, heh) must have made them interested in seeing the US audiences response.

  97. Hi Jarocha. The other day we were discussing Amigas and Rivales here and later I saw that you had joined in. I think that I remember an hilarious scene from that which involved Angélica Vale and another actor trapped in a shower with a glass door. They couldn't shut the water off and the shower stall began filling with water. Is my memory correct? and if not, can you recall such a scene in any other TN?

    Carlos

  98. Karamy - Do you know if the 220 episodes in Mexico are half-our episodes, or full-hour? That can make a difference.

    Maybe it will replace AdP.

  99. Marta, Cristián de la Fuente is in Amor Bravío as well. He was Renato in CS '09. Also César Evora, Fernanda Castillo (Luisa from Teresa) and Juan Diego Covarrubias (Freddy from Familia.)

  100. Hi Carlos! I can't recall that scene you mention, sorry. I do think, however, that it sounds like something that the writers for Amigas y Rivales would do.

The 220 episodes for Amor Bravío are 1 hour. That's going to be a long novela.

  101. Also in Amor Bravio are Cesar Evora and Lety Calderon.

This is scary. Lately whenever there has been a TN of 200+ episodes, Looneyvision chooses to do 2 hour episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Of course, that doesn't explain Refugio. I have no idea why that is 2 hours.

  104. jaja.. did anyone catch Gael's lower legs and birthmark tonight? ... yeah that is what i meant.

    ReplyDelete
  105. ok but in all seriousness, when Paloma wanted him to count how long she could stay underwater and he had a clear view of Dam/Elisa and put that puppy pouting face, i wanted to reach through the screen and caress his head/face... poor thing... even Padre Loopy noticed how he was struggling at the dinner table.

  106. Rest in Peace,Kenia. You'll be in a better place with God where you'll get the love of a mother, a partner and where there is no sadness.i am so shocked and depressed about this episode where evil has temporarily triumphed. Thanks for the superb recap Martha.
