Abismo de pasión #82 7/5/12: I’m not crazy I’m desperate, or “Dinero is more important than DNA*”
*Thanks to Anon207 for tonight's title (from a comment way back when which I saved)
Sorry about the late post. I wrote this up earlier from watching online because I knew I would be home late tonight, then I forgot to post it. Doh! I’ll try to re-watch a few scenes now to fill in some of the conversational blanks/details that I missed. Unless they are unimportant in which case never mind. Was it just me or did this episode seem to take forever?
Repeat of the best scene ever: Don Lucio peeks at the DNA test results and lets loose with a joyful warwhoop. He knew it!! Elisa is Don Augusto’s child!
Lo Nuevo: And here we have one of the oldest and saddest conversations in the human condition...
Paloma - I can’t help feeling jealous of Elisa. I know it’s bad. (She sounds unreasonable, but she is correct.) Admit you were melting for her.
Gael - Don’t you trust me? She knows I’m with you. I was only hugging her because she needed a friend. (He sounds reasonable, but he is not telling her or himself the truth.) Elisa’s problems with her dad or more serious than just “the usual”, so ask her yourself. (Scaredy cat.)
Don Lucio is still celebrating, his heart knew the truth all along. He pooh poohs Doc’s attempts to scold him for opening the report. Doc wants to get cracking, it will take them forever in Lucio’s unbearably slow and anvily truck. Screw that, says Lucio, I’m calling Don A right now. Ruh Roh, Orange Crush answers the phone. Errrr, is Augusto there? Nope, she tries to get more info but Lucio hangs up. She glares suspiciously at the phone.
Fina’s lap dog reports to his mistress that Don Assgusto has agreed to sell his tierras. He shows her Don Assgusto’s proposal (with bank appraisal), 50% up front and 50% after the papers are signed. Gab wonders how the details are going to go down because the land will be in his name. Fina dismissively tells him to negotiate Assgusto down some more and after the deal is done they will transfer the tierras to her name and Gabino will get his fee for services.
Everybody is in Mérida today. They should have carpooled. Flor and Paolo are visiting Guido. Flor weeps about dad getting sent to the big house. Paolo pretends to care. Guido has accepted that Fina is very powerful and intends to stick it to him. For now he wants Flor to be Landucci strong. Paolo comforts Flor and rolls his eyes behind her back.
Irritating-I greets Gabino like the harpy she is. She’s heard Gabino is buying Assgusto’s tierras and thinks it with her money. Nope, the sale is funded by Alfonsina and they had no idea how much money the old bat really has. Rosendo left her swimming in dough and they can’t enjoy the half her bastard should get by rights because Irritating-I denied it. (Got paid off to deny it.)
BegoneYa visits Carmina because she needs to talk to a friend. It’s about Sabrina, she’s going out with Paolo Landucci and BegoneYa is worried because he’s such a bad man, trying to rape Elisa and all. Carmina shrewdly assures her Elisa asked for it. Boys will be boys and what’s a guy to do when a woman throws herself at him? Luckily Sabrina and Elisa are not the same. (Very true, Sabrina puts out, Elisa does not.) BegoneYa tries to look reassured.
Over at A Touch Of Glamor Sabrina is pregnant. That is to say she’s got a slight stomach ache. (So do I, but that’s because I ate too much BBQ chicken and drank too much Sangria yesterday.) Bwahahaha, she’s thinking about going to dad’s office for a check-up. Her friend warns against that, she might be pregnant. Sabrina gets dizzy and has to sit down. Cheer up Sabrina, it could be leukemia. But judging by Sabrina and her friends faces, embarazada is the more likely option.
Dam finds Padre praying, he’s been looking for Padre to tell him Mom wants him to move back home. He’s confused; on one hand he’s very resentful, on the other hand she’s the mother who raised him. (And shipped him off to Italy when he got inconvenient, I might add.)
The cemetery is another popular place today. The dirt on Estef’s simple mound has been freshly raked (so weird as noted before). Elisa finds Ramona there communing with Estef’’s spirit. Elisa is curious about what was going down with Assgusto and Ramona when she saw them there before. Ramona asks Elisa if she remembers the night her mother died? Yes perfectly, mom kissed her, said she wouldn’t be long, and instructed her not to let Tia Carmina out of her locked room. Ramona wonders why Stef locked Carmina in her room? “Duh, I dunno,” says Elisa, “it was odd but my aunt was supposed to leave on a trip, she didn’t do it because of the accident, then she married my dad. Why do you ask?” Just curiosity, gotta dash, says Ramona, once again not revealing the truth that will make the whole world tremble.
Back at Hacienda Harangue-O Paolo advises Flor to tread lightly. If they aren’t careful Fina will kick their butts out and they’ll end up in the street. I wish, whines Flor, she says Paolo is there because he wants to be but she is a prisoner. Paolo is positive that Flor will get Dam back and Fina will let Guido out of jail. “It’s not so simple,” she muses. Paolo tells Flor to be smart and go after the inheritance, she has no idea how much money Fina has. Now he’s got to go and boink Sabrina some more. Flor observes he’ll never change.
Sabrina’s friend/employee has discreetly picked up a pregnancy test and Sabrina has peed on the stick. She’s afraid to look. Oopsie, says her friend, you’re embarazada. Aye Dios mío! What is Sabrina going to do?
Horacio, in the cleanest butcher’s apron ever, is happily doing business at his carniceria. Braulio stops by to offer his congratulations and place an order for meat. (As an aside, Horacio says he can’t pay Braulio back yet, but he’s got “a deal”, i.e. anvil alert, in the works which will help pay the debt.) By the way, how’s Lolita? Oh fine, says Horacio, but she’s worried about Elisa who fought with dad and they all moved out. Turns out Elisa and Dam are kids of the same father. Brau, although surprised, takes this news unbelievably calmly. “Dude, you’ve still got the hots for my wife, verdad?” queries Horacio. Brau tells him he’s wrong, his feelings for Lolita aren’t like that. “In that case give my regards to your wife and the meat is on the house.”
Gah!! Qué barbaridad! Lucio’s truck has broken down as predicted. Now I’m just waiting for a jaguar or crocodile to come lunging out of the forest to gobble the Doc and Lucio up. Doc knows nothing about trucks but Lucio says he’s an expert. Fix it quickly before the animals attack!!
Carmina skulks around the house doing nothing in particular. She spies Ramona hanging out on the steps outside trying to look threatening. “Beat it,” she says, “Elisa no longer lives in my house.” Ramona reminds her “Mi Casa” was Assgusto’s and Estef’s, but never Carmina’s. Orangina scoffs at the vieja loca, but Ramona goes all oracle on her. “We all have our destiny and to us all the hour will come,” predicts Ramona. “ A todos, nos llega la hora,” she confidently repeats to Carmina’s tense and retreating backside.
Over at the habanero greenhouse, and under Gael’s jealously watchful eye, Dam tells Elisa it’s probably not convenient for him to be working there. She tells him to go home, return to the procesadora, and get back with Florencia who loves him. He suggests a goodbye hug but she refuses. Adiós y Adiós . Aaaaand, here come the waterworks.
Lucio has fixed the truck and the men weren’t eaten by wild animals, hooray! Now hurry home before anything else happens, you two crazy guys. I think these two should go on a road trip when this is all over. Oh noes, the truck dies again.
Padre finds Dam packing to go home. Dam Weepy says he and Elisa said goodbye and are going to put some distance between them. He’s going to return to work at the procesadora because it’s got big problems. Mom threw Guido in jail and Flor needs him now, as he needs her. Padre advises him not to commit any tonterías. Dam says Flor is the only one who can help him forget. He leaves to go commit tonterías .
Bill and Ted are still on the side of the road and Don Lucio doesn’t want to wait for someone to drive by. He grabs the results, instructs Doc to wait with the truck, and heads on down the road to be wild animal food or the target for a renegade driver. Where is Ramona and her burro cart when we need them?
Elisa mopes home to Don L’s and Lolita asks what’s bothering her? (Really? You have to ask?) Elisa says she and Dam just said goodbye, he can no longer work for her, and she sent him packing into Florencia’s arms. What? Lolita thinks that idea sucks, momentarily forgetting that Elisa does everything in her power to maintain or improve her victim status. Elisa says what she needs isn’t important as long as Damian is happy. (See? Told’ya. Victim.)
Over at La Fonda, whose seasoning touches, Paolo is having a No Puede Ser moment. I’ll never understand why people who don’t use protection are always so shocked that pregnancy is the result. Paolo is predictable, this news is el colmo, and la culpa is all Sabrina’s. Imagine, the daughter of a doctor not using protection! (I say disarm him right now.) She gets upset and he tells her to calm down. The sleazy lounge lizard music plays as he assures her he’s a gentleman and will marry her. Later.
Lucio ambles along the road, attempting to wave down cars with the test results. Qué bárbaro that nobody will stop for a man his age. He realizes that he has stumbled upon Stef and Rosendo’s accident site. He asks Stef and Rosendo to help him, he needs to get to La Ermita. Instant gratification! Doc T drives up in the truck. It’s working, just needed antifreeze. Hooray! Again.
Dam arrives home. Fina is mucha contenta. Damian is not.
Gabino and Useless Vicente are at the procesadora, happy that Guido is in jail. Gab is pleased that the whole world thinks Guido is a thief. Vicente flashes his dimples and cheerfully reports that he knows very well Guido isn’t a thief, but rather Gabino and Paolo set him up. Gab grabs his throat but Chente backs away. He’s not the tonto Gab thought, he read everything while he carried all those documents back and forth for Gabino and Paolo. Gab grabs Chente’s ear and drags him around, telling him to be very careful. What does Chente want? Money? Chente says no, he just wants to be better friends, cuates (best buds) in fact. Gab pats his face and says he always liked Chente. “Adiós papá,” says Chente after Gab leaves the room.
Flor walks into Paolo’s room, sees him packing, and asks what’s flipping? “Tortillas, obviously. Sheesh, I’m packing my bags. What does it look like? I’m leaving La Ermita right now.” Flor knows something is up and she wants to know what it is. He admits stupid Sabrina didn’t keep herself from getting pregnant and he’s going to leave town before the scandal breaks. Flor makes him sit and dangles the money carrot. She says she needs his help to get dad out of jail and get Dam’s inheritance. Fina is making demands that Flor provide an heir. The clinic in Mérida discovered Flor cannot have kids. She suggests taking Sabrina’s baby and passing it off as her own. Kudos to the observant commenters who suggested this plot twist.
Lolita finds Horacio at the carniceria. Sorry she’s late but her niña Elisa needed her. (Get used to this Horacio.) He says no worries, he’s got to dash to check out a big order of meat for sale for great prices from some out of town señora. Lolita says she’ll close up. Horacio leaves and the camera pans to two nasty-looking cleavers and a big honer on the counter.
Flor explains to Paolo her plan to pass off Sabrina’s baby as her own and get daddy out of jail. Paolo’s got to make Sabrina think he’s in love with her and that he wants the baby. He needs to make sure Sabrina doesn’t say anything to anyone, and before she starts showing he needs to get her out of town. After the baby is born he’s got to convince her the baby died and then give it to Flor. Flor will figure out a way for people to think she’s pregnant. Paolo thinks (knows) she’s crazy, it will never work, nor does he want to spend nine months with la estúpida Sabrina. Fine, she says, she’ll make sure Enrique and the whole family is waiting for him in the road. Alternatively he can stay, help her, get Guido out of jail and assure his future and hers too.
Padre visits Satan’s Concubine to ask if she’s thought about their conversation last night. Is she ready to tell Augusto the truth? Orangina says she’s ready but Padre doesn’t believe her. Just to make sure he’ll wait for Don Augusto so he can speak to him personally. Don Augusto needs to hear the truth and hang the consequences! Aaaaand, right on cue, Don Augusto creeps into the house and hears Padre bellowing about this truth that has been hidden from him for all these years. “What do you need to tell me?” Padre crosses himself, asks forgiveness and begins. But Orangina interrupts, she asks Assgusto to forgive her, she lied about Elisa not being his daughter so he would forget Stef and marry her.
Just then Lucio runs into the house waving the results at Assgusto. “They show that Elisa is of your blood! Elisa is your daughter!” Caras impactadas de Carmina y Assgusto.
Still no Catch of the Day. I really thought I was going to get Kenia surfacing.
Avances: A crucial episode! Elisa and Damian must know the truth! Dam looks drunk. Flor kisses him. Dam looks guilty.
I hope you guys can find this on the Abismo feed. Blogger was acting weird tonight.
ReplyDeleteWonderful recap, Cap'n. I cannot believe that Carmina confessed that she lied about Elisa being Rosendo's so that Augusto would marry her. Wow!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why we got that confession, concurrent with the reminder about Estefania locking Carmina in her bedroom, AND Don Lucio's gleeful delivery of the DNA results? Why now writers? why give us so much at one time?
I thought Padre Lupe was going to explode in his righteous indignation as he came into the Casa Castigo. He made a believer out of me.
Thanks again Sylvia, for a fine recap of an action packed epi. It felt really long to me, too!
Abrazos amiga,
EJ
Yikes. Girlfriend you are up way too late! I have insomnia, what's your excuse?
ReplyDeleteI was also rather agog that all the confessions came at once. One thing for sure, Carmina is acting very desperate.
Oh man, not only did this episode seem to take forever, I went to a really long play tonight. I wanted to jump up and yell "Get to the point!" There's a lot to be said for good editing.
What an episode, and in the artful hands of our Sylvia, we get a wonderful recap of the craziness.
ReplyDeleteI have come to the conclusion we have sadistic writers. How else to explain the constant scaring the crap out of us with "Bob and Ted" (too cute) constantly having truck troubles on that creepy road. (How come when Alfi went to Merida it was on a well-traveled highway?). Real cute guys...NOT!
And I hate being right. So we will now progress with the fake pregnancy plot. And by the previews and Dam-Whatever's " Flor is the only one who can help him forget" we know he will be drugged, drunk, stoopid, and be horizontal with the Spunkette before 24 hours passes.
Oh good lord, the waterworks we will have to endure when this whole " Dam-Daddy" plot comes out. I say we demand some decent dub-plots to get us thru this. Writers owe us.
Had to work today, so I could only toast the good Padre, Doc and Lucio with a quiet glass of vino last night. But tonight, our heros deserve will get the tables celebrating tonight. Thank goodness for our world-weary, but oh so wonderful, true galans.
Thanks for the recap Sylvia. I'm out of town at a conference and haven't been able to post. Also thanks to Sara, NovelaMaven, and Marita for your great work.
ReplyDeleteEJ - yes, why did the writers give us ALL that info now especially since we know we have to endure the pity plot scenarios that daisynjay listed? It gives Ramona more material to slam Agent Orange with but we know that won't happen for weeks. Daisynjay's right these writers are sadists.
Oh and EJ let's have our mission focused on Guido and not Flor. The fact that she will snatch Sabrina's baby and tell her the child died makes her a real villain now. I understand she's desperate but that's evil. And pretty much seals it that Quiqui will probably end up with Paloma.
In addition to thinking our guys might get killed on the lone highway, I was waiting for them to pass a body of water and find Kenia's body. Waiting for anvils to drop makes me create very bad situations.
Sylvia- This was a great recap. You're right that this episode felt long, but I think the writers purposely did it. They knew the whole audience was waiting for something to happen to Lucio, Doc or both to delay the DNA results. They were toying with us.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed by the stupidity of our heroine and hero. They are just going to take Augie's and Carmeany's word for it that they are siblings! These are not the two most reliable people in the world. I would want to see the results of a DNA test, that I initiated, with my own eyes. Then I'd take a second test, if that one came back saying we were sibs.
Then they add to the stupidity by having the galan, not only just fall back into the arms of his ex in a moment of weakness (drink/drugs), but actually SAY out loud that he intends to give that merry-go-round another try. What happened to all that stuff he told Flor about them not being right for each other, regardless of Elisa? If Damian had just said I'm going back to support Flor in her hour of need, I would have thought it was naive of him (because she would be all over him again), but it would have seemed noble. This just seems weak and lame. And Elisa is once again telling him to go back to Flor who loves. And just wait, next episode when he does just that, she'll be ticked off at him, just like before.
Flor really crossed over to Crazy Town this episode. Sabrina is a bit of a silly gossip, but she doesn't deserve to be knocked up by Paolo, duped into leaving with him to only be abandoned later, and told that her baby died. Begonia deserves it. Sabrina does not.
I love it Sylvia, this is so chock full of innocent prosaic lines that in context are screamingly hilarious. My favorite:
ReplyDelete"He leaves to go commit tonterías."
Understandable, and he certainly didn't waste any time.
Antifreeze! Of course... in the Yucatan, almost as important as snow tires.
And the Altair that I've come to know and love finally shows up.
Am I the only one who wishes that Horacio would put on a long=sleeved shirt while working in the butcher shop?
Carlos
Cap'n Sylvia - Great recap and thank you! There were area storms (unfortunately none in our county so our grass remains DEAD) and the power kept going out. There were large missing gaps in my recording, like the Ingrid scene.
ReplyDeleteDid you mean "Bill & Ted"? (B&TEA)
I'm glad Paloma had a reasonable discussion with Gael about his true feelings for Elisa, instead of the usual "harpy" screaming & crying we normally see in Telerisa productions.
Will Kenia ever surface? At this point, she has been fish food and nobody would recognize her.
Vivi in DC - I agree with you completely about Dam returning to Flor as "weak and lame." I was thinking the same thing last night. Gah! Is the guy that co-dependent that he has to have a girl on his arm? What about taking some time off from women and dealing with the Pro Ce Sa Dora? Argh.....
ReplyDeleteOh, Carlos,
ReplyDelete"Antifreeze! Of course... in the Yucatan, almost as important as snow tires."
HeeeeeHeeeeHeeeeHeeeeHeeee
And, I second your vote for favorite line:
"He leaves to go commit tonterías."
The script demands tonterias . . . otherwise, the show would end tomorrow.
My heart went out to Don Lucio last night, as he burst through the door with the BIG REVEAL, only to be met with a "yeah, yeah, tell us somethin' we don't know already."
Any speculation on where Horacio is actually heading? Somehow, I don't think he's going to see a lady about some meat. In the previews for tonight's episode there is a milisecond shot of him walking purposefully toward the camera. That plus the foreshadowing camera pan to the meat cleavers in the butcher shop . . . ¡Ay, Dios mio!
Sylvia, many thanks for your fabulous recap.
Marie from Natick
Fabulous work, Sylvia. The episode did seem a little long, but you handled it in style.
ReplyDeleteYour riffs on Lucio and Doc's travails was great. As everyone has mentioned, the writers were toying with us. Not real cool, but I sort of see the humor in it. We all know the formula and were just waiting for a calamity that didn't happen.
I am closing up the Flor table for now. She's gone to the dark side.
Sylvia: Just great.
ReplyDeleteCarlos: But, Altair as Flor is indulging in the fake pregnancy to get her father out of jail. Unfortunately, she has fallen under Paolo's spell and is so pissed off at Alfonsina that she agrees to work the case like a true grifter and go for the gold. Anyway, if she really loved Damian, she wouldn't do this.
As far as Damian is concerned, he took the easy rode too quickly. Wah, wah, running back to mama. He had me at his table for a few moments when he stood up to Alfonsina.
Ah the relief of having power again! Hola everybody. We had no electricity for 7 days. And with temperatures ranging from 95 to 100 degrees, we didn't need any antifreeze either.
ReplyDeleteI missed a lot of episodes but alas, am finding Dam Weepy and Elisa Weepy to be as brain-challenged as when last I watched them.
Loved your recap Sylvia. In addition to the wonderful "tonterias" line, also enjoyed "but Ramona goes all oracle on her".
Yep, she was in full portentous mode last night but still not giving any useful info to anybody.
Now excuse me while I get back down on my knees and give thanks for having the power restored. There are still folks in my suburb without.
Doris, yes amiga I meant BILL and Ted. Thank you. Sigh, it was late last night, what can I say? I was going to blame the play, because BOB was in the title, but then I remembered so was BILL, bwahahaha.
ReplyDeleteJudyB, so glad you have your electricity back! I was wondering if you were suffering from the blackout. What a summer, blackouts, fires, storms and derechos...it's practically biblical.
Marie from Natick, I fear Horacio is about to make yet another stupid decision of some sort. It sounds like he thinks he's going to some good business deal, but knowing him it will go terribly wrong. Poor Lolita.
Thank you, Sylvia, for yet another gem of a recap.
ReplyDeleteAmong my favorite Sylvisms today were the deceptively simple throwaways:
"Everybody is in Mérida today -- they should have carpooled."
"Cheer up Sabrina, it could be leukemia."
"Still no catch of the day."
And as others have already said:
"He leaves to go commit tonterías."
DaisynJay, Take a bow! Lots of us saw the Sabrina bun in the oven, but your guess about the fake pregnancy/stolen baby was inspired!
Carlos, I was giggling over the antifreeze too.
I think we are set for some grim weeks ahead. Padre told Dam something like some actions have no backsies. So once Dam falls into Flor's arms (and he's so stoopid, I don't think any stupefacients will be required), he will be grimly committed. Lots of prissy mouth to come. And lots of trickle-down misery. Watch out, Paloma!
Alfie will feel she has triumphed while the viewer knows she is getting set to hand over her fortune to Sabrina and Paolo's unfortunate offspring.
Will Augusto still be willing to sell to Gabino when the latter tries to bargain down (regatear)the already agreed upon fair price?
Vivi and others, I completely agree that the writers are toying with us. We fret every time one of our favorites is in a vulnerable position. I was even scared when Lupe turned his back on Carmina.
There's no question that Horacio is doing a "job" for Carmina or Gabino. Dare we hope it involves Ingrid? Because if it's Ramona he's gunning for ... ay ... can't even think about that possibility.
JudyB, what a nightmare! I've missed you these past few days and I'm very glad to know you are safe and your power has been restored.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a strange and, as Sylvia says, almost biblical summer.
Oh no, Horacio gunning for Ramona? I don't even want to go there! But as Marie from Natick says, he is up to no good somehow, somewhere.
ReplyDeleteCarlos, Horacio's personal habits when he is behind the counter just gross me out. No he should not be sleeveless. And he should stop playing with his hair all the time. Years ago I went through a Safety and Sanitation certification. It changed me for life.
I think that Horacio's little job is to somehow recover those old airline tickets for Carmina. Doesn't Ingrid have those?
ReplyDeleteToday in Pamplona, Spain the famous Running of the Bulls began, so for those who have somehow managed to miss this, here's once again a link to the Running of the Squirrels.
Carlos
Thanks Cap'n. What a crazy episode. So much happening.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they're going to try to rehash the fake pregnancy, switcheroo again. I thought the rule was try it once per TN. So who agrees with me that Dam gets drunk, does it with Flo, she fakes pregnancy and they have to get married? I guess that's an old story line too in about half of all TNs.
Ha! Thanks for the Running of the Squirrles, Carlos. That's been a running gag at our house for years.
ReplyDeleteCarlos, yes! I think you are right about Horacio's task. He didn't take the knives so one of them will likely turn up somewhere else as evidence of something completely different.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the running of the squirrels. So funny!
Sylvia, great stuff, thanks.
ReplyDeleteCarlos, loved the squirrels and have sent it on to friends that battle the little rodents.
Don't laugh about the antifreeze. We were on a trip to Cancun and four of us hired a SUV/w driver to take us to Tulum and the SUV overheated and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere in Yucatan. We finally gave up our water bottles and we got to some shack aka service station and got more water and yes, antifreeze. It seems they are not really careful about keeping coolant in their cars and they overheat frequently.
I do believe that Horacio's hygiene is worse than the Fuego boys making bread.
I can hardly wait for Alfie's demise. Hopefully, it will be as evil as she is.
Rosemary Primera
Carlos - Yes, Ingrid has the infamous plane tickets.
ReplyDeleteBuaHahahahaaaaa!!! Thanks for video link, too! "I have lost many friends to the squirrels." just cracked me up. LOL
Judy B.
ReplyDeleteI saw where the storms that hit Richmond, came thru Columbus. I am glad you got your power back, and thank-ful to the man upstairs , that I never lost mine.
How about you ViVi, your area was hard hit too. I was in Anne Arundel this past weekend, and no one execpt the casino had power....go figure
Vivi and Doris-you both have hit the nail on the head with Dam. I think that's why I have a hard time cheering for him as a hero because of these constant backslides he takes. I so agree that it was ridiculous to hear him wax poetic on needing to go back to Spunkette and a lousy 24 hours has barely passed. And Vivi, you're right--Elisa pushed him to do it and then will be pithed and start the waterworks every time she sees them. As Padre must be thinking...may the Saints preserve us.
ReplyDeleteOh, and forgot to mention this morning....anyone else notice the camera pan and linger on the butcher knives after Horacio left the shop. Even though Lola was standing there all spunky and happy, thought that was creepy and rather ominous.
Hey Anon #1. Good to see you! I'm glad you had your power, and also glad Judy got hers back, finally. My neighborhood in NE DC got hit really hard, but surprisingly, I had power through most of it all. I lost my internet and cable for a few days, but I had power, and more importantly, A.C. My office, which is 4 blocks away from my condo, had no power for a few days, so I had quite a few work from home days this week.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon #1. Glad to hear that you are doing well.
ReplyDeletedaisynjay, yep, camera pan on butcher knives, never a good thing.
Judy B - so glad you are back up and running!! My co-worker in Columbus has had family members at her place since the storm hit. She kept power, they all lost there's, so she put everyone them up since most were elderly. Bless you for having to put up with that.
ReplyDeleteHope you get the "cool-down" that's suppose to come thru NE Ohio this weekend. We don't get relief soon, I may start cutting off my jeans and dressing like Elisa to keep cooler. And that is not a pretty sight.
I am amazed by the stupidity of our heroine and hero. They are just going to take Augie's and Carmeany's word for it that they are siblings! These are not the two most reliable people in the world.
ReplyDelete-------------------------
This is why Damian and Elisa DO NOT DESERVE to be with one another at this point in time. Both of them are stupid, silly and weak.
Stuff the young people of La Ermita need to learn:
DAMIAN needs to learn to stand on his own two feet & stop being manipulated by Alfonsina.
ELISA needs to learn to stop being a victim.
GAEL needs to learn she's just not that into you, dude.
PALOMA needs to learn to stop being so pathetic.
FLORENCIA needs to learn to stop being so pathetic
SABRINA WILL LEARN what it feels like to be the topic of gossip.
IMO the only person who's trying to learn something is ENRIQUE, who is learning to be a stand up guy and real friend even though some people (*coff* Florencia *coff*) don't deserve it.
HI, All:
ReplyDeleteA couple of armchair shrinkage offerings. Do not worry, mis amigos, these are offered pro bono:
-Carlos, yes, I think we have seen a couple of indications of Ramona's OCD tendencies—the ordering of the jars, for one, as you mentioned, and do you remember her careful separation of the colored seeds into separate piles a few epis earlier? Paloma took delight in messing the seeds up when she was angry with her Abuela.
Also for any of you who remember Mañana Es Para Siempre, I believe I coined the term "BSC" (Bat Shit Crazy) at that time to describe Barbara Greco, as eeevil a villain as we have ever enjoyed on a telenovela. Carmina is no where near as eeevil as Barbara, nor is she as competent as Alfonsina, but she is desperate, as Sylvia said in her recap today, and I think she is being written as really dangerous. I would call her BSC, for sure.
Ingrid has the evidence that proves that Carmina was running away with Rosendo, so it seems to me that Ingrid might be in really serious danger. Carmina already killed her daughter Kenia.
-Daisynjay: I completely agree, the writers are sadists and they are (dare I say it?) misogynistic and lazy sadists at that. Pah! Must they rehash the exact plot elements over and over again in the same TN? Really? Is there nothing else to do with a young, beautiful A list 20-something Telenovela actress like Altair Jarabo but have her offer up her sexuality and or reproductive services (or, in Flor's case, a facsimile of same) to the highest bidder?
Karen:
Yes, we are forced to dump Flor for her Father, it seems. It looks like Guido and Enriqu are going to form a most unlikely team, fighting against injustice doesn't it?
Finally, my friends, I must insist that if Damian and Elisa end up together, they build a large Ecumenical Guest House on the property.
They need permanent housing for the live-in shrinks and wise people they are going to need to help raise any confused children they might have. These two are dolts. Now, it is no wonder they are dolts, we understand the horrible parenting and deprivation they have each endured, but I am thinking a regular meeting of Rabbi Jacob, Padre Lupe, the High Lama, Ramona and Friends could really help the family out. It probably wouldn't hurt the town one bit either.
Thanks again, Cap'n for a fine recap.
EJ
Anon 207:
ReplyDeleteOur posts crossed. Your list is excellent, as usual.
I completely agree!
Elna June
JudyB:
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have your power back, my friend! Stay coo and comfortable for the rest of the summer. We missed you.
EJ
Thanks for another great gem, Sylvia!
ReplyDeleteas others have noted, LOVED LOVED the Bill and Ted adventures telling, the anti-freeze (good one Carlos!) and all the snarky comments all over.
ITA with others that the plotline of 'lets pass girl A's baby as girl B to save her engagement/marriage' is way old.
and I too was grossed out with Horacio's habits at the butchery, playing with his hair and then mangling the meat with the knives in such a non-sanitary way... also that asking Brau 'you still have the hots for my girl, don't you?' was way out of line. he should know Brau better than expect Brau to come collecting on the loan.
totally agree that both Dam and Elisa need to be hit on the head with a blunt object to see if they will wake up already!
and cute comment about Lucio arriving so happy thinking he had the news hot out of the press only to get faces like 'dude! that is yesterday's headlines!'
totally bought Rene Cs padre Loopy attitude with Carmina... hopefully we will see a repeat of that whole sequence tonight..
please lets find Kenya before she is totally unrecognizable! i really hope they won't make this drag much longer.
I'm opening an Enrique table. I think he is turning out to be a descent guy and I'm pulling for him and Paloma to get together in the end.
ReplyDeleteAnd as I've said before, he is the spitting image of a young Elliott Gould.
http://greenobles.com/photos/elliott-gould/03/
While watching Padre Lupe rant on last night about The Lie, he was probably wishing he could have done this in his previous incarnation as Pad Tad in FELS. Bless his heart.
ReplyDeletecathyx - I'll join you at the Enrique table. Young Elliott Gould ... yes, that is exactly who he has been reminding of.
ReplyDeleteI think the tovar men should teach the arango men and dad castigo some good sense and manners...
ReplyDeleteGael should learn the attitude of non-returned love from Enrique
Shallow-Brain Assgus should learn some 'fall and have the guts to face your consequences and get up again' mode from DrT.
Lucio and Loopy should wear 'town hero' shirts... i really want Ramona to show up at Castigo Manor and finish the group hammering of the nails on Carmina's coffin.
but i still say Brainless Assgus can't handle the truth... judging from his initial reaction frozen when Lucio came waving the results, i dont think he will have the backbone to handle the truth.
OMG, being without power for 7 days is truly hell. Con Ed has been cutting output during this heat wave and I am so glad to not have a high def TV set at this point because they devour electricity.
ReplyDelete(Mixes up a Viking's Kiss for JudyB and everyone at the Padre's table.)
OK, so now we're on to the next mystery and trying to ID the next murder victim.
Hi Marta! Great to hear from you. I totally think the Tovar men should teach the others some lessons. Isn't it funny how they are turning out to be the good guys? Interesting comment about Augusto not being able to handle the truth.
ReplyDeletecathyx, I am on my over to the Enrique table right now.
Urban A, next victim...luckily (for him) Useless Vicente is Gabino's son, otherwise he would be prime victim material. Also, Useless has to get sick and have a blood transfusion or organs transplant or something so that it will come out that Gabino is his dad. So he's safe for a little while.
Ingrid is pushing it with Carmina. She could be next. Ramona (though I hate to say it, boo hoo) is pushing Carmina's buttons too. But I would go for Ingrid because she is so darn IRRITATING!
Paolo is also someone who rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a victim.
Cathyx: May I join you at the Enrique table?
ReplyDeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the commiserating comments. But writing again, because I finally had time to read the recaps I missed and goodlordamighty, what an awesome bunch of writers we have!
Spanish comprehension aside, this blog is such a marvelous showcase for people with a gift for language...whether sly, lubricious humor, detailed factual reporting or dead-on hilarious pastiches. Zounds!!
Now Urban Anthropologist, I'm a bit of a dolt when it comes to drinks. What's a Viking Kiss? It sounds delicious and like it entails some vodka from the freezer. Izzat so?
Anyway, I have a great respect now for the tranquilizing effects of alcohol. After the first five days of unendurable heat and eating grim remains of fridge food sitting on bags of ice, we went out to dinner and I, who never drink, had a glass of wine. I went from wanting to rip my husband's face off to feeling incredible affection for the old dear. Booze works!
In case I haven't mentioned this before I think this series has one of the best title songs ever. The two singers are the first winner and runner-up of Mexico's version of The Voice. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind Ingrid being the next murder victim, but I think someone else is being lined up.
I could tell you who the next victim will be, but I will let you be surprised. As I mentioned before, I got rid of my cable and bought an antennae. I watch the Mexico broadcast (40 chapters ahead) because I live so close to the border.
ReplyDeleteP.S. This was funny Sylvia. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteUrban Anthropologist:
ReplyDeleteNow, do tell, amiga, what is in a Viking's Kiss? What are we drinking at Padre's table? How I love him!
And, thanks be to you for the most recappers tip to your friend in the Sonoma Wine County. It worked! Pls e-mail me your address offline, I have something for you. My e-mail is sdougherty3e@gmail.com.
I want to go to a bar in SF with Sylvia (and anyone else who would like to join, of course) and play stump the bartender. How much fun is that?!
Why do the writers have to use Horacio to do Delores wrong? This is rotten, I say, just rotten.
I cannot abide Horacio and it is not JUST the hygiene problems. Sylvia, I a going to send him some anon. "Haunting letters" from Blanquita, just to get him to straighten up his act. I sure don't like the look of those choppers.
EJ
Marta. Next victim. Maybe We can fashion up that dart board We talked about and see who gets hit? Of course after a few drinks, it may turn out to be the waiter.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is someone Guppy will lose control over again. Now that the truth, sort of, is coming out, I'm thinking Romana since keeps at Guppy or if turns her outand threatens to cut her off, Asshat himself. She would get the house, etc. As the wider. Don't think Padre. This TN needs it's man of the cloth.
Meant wifee. Stupid cell phone
ReplyDeleteSara, yes of course you can join me at the Enrique table. Everyone is welcome. What should we order to drink? And eat?
ReplyDeleteViking's Kiss
ReplyDelete3 parts Freixinet (brut)
1 part Cherry Kijafa
Chill both bottles well before opening!
Oh my, that sounds gooooooood. Next time I want to rip my husband's face off, I'll go out and get me some of that fine stuff, chill well and then slurp down a bit. (Hell, who needs couples counseling?) You are truly the Recipe Queen, UA,for both food and drink.
ReplyDeleteThanks. When I am finally faced with another office potluck I might bring a supply of that.
ReplyDeleteWatch for this weekend's game. It posts at 11PM.
The greatest Caray-novela mystery of all times......how JudyB could be married for umpteen years and "never[take a] drink" ????? Amiga mia, are doing it the hard way!!!!! I noticed your absence and was worrying about you, glad you didn't melt in the heat.
ReplyDeleteSylvia, just WONDERFUL... I love your dry, understated humor. Yes, as one of our anons said the other day, this is truly "literary" place!
daisynjay - I'm with you at the "Guppy will lose control" table. She doesn't have those Snoopy-plays-vulture eyes for nothing.
ReplyDeleteMy best guess is that she'll kill Augusto because he is bound to rip into her for The Lie *and* thus desecrating Estefania's name and reputation for the past umpteen years.
Cap'n Sylvia --- is that a cherry pie! AAAaaaaaaack! I did not torture you with photos of gelato. Just sayin'
;o)
Sandy in TN - did you get any rain? We just got an entire inch. Woot!Woot!
ReplyDeleteelna june - Come join me at the "I cannot stand Horacio" table.
ReplyDeleteThat is to say, "Amiga mia, you are doing it the hard way!"
ReplyDeleteLike others here, I'm phone challenged!
JudyB - Good to see you back here and I am glad you have your electricity. HOW did we ever live without A/C in the good old days!
ReplyDeleteSummers were not as hot in years past. There were no good old days.
ReplyDeleteThe weekend game posts at 11PM with a hot beginning.
Judy B, Being without electricity can make you do more than drink a glass of wine....lol.
ReplyDeleteViVi, we got hit here the same as D.C., power was out all around me, but the good Lord saw fit to pass over my neighborhood in Henrico County.
I am not watching any TN right now, but I sure miss all my friends at Caray Caray...
Urban Anthro,
ReplyDeleteI agree about the theme song,
"Solo un Suspiro."
Here's a link to Oscar Cruz singing "Si Tu Supieras" on Voz Mexico . . . with celebrity MC Mark Tacher looking super-dishy in something other than plaid . . . followed by a touching Cruz family reunion.

Marie from Natick
"Booze works!'
ReplyDeleteOh, man, Judy B, you are a scream.
Marie from Natick
That's awesome that the theme song singers won a singing competiton and got this gig. I don't feel so affended now that they added them to the opening credit scenes. What a great break for them.
ReplyDeleteDoris, fresh apricot pie, just out of the oven. I have a prolific tree.
ReplyDeleteDoris
ReplyDeleteI am there. What are we eating and drinking tonight? We are, perhaps, eating no red meat? JAjajajaja. This should be fun.
EJ
UA - Might depend on where one lives. The heat records being broken here are from the early 1950s, and are being broken by a one to two degree difference. The droughts are probably worse than before.
ReplyDeleteElna june - frozen margaritas and grilled shrimp and tons of guacamole. And Sylvia's apricot pie with real Mexican vanilla ice cream, on top or on the side, whichever you prefer!
Anon#1, you live in Henrico?
ReplyDeleteI live in Hanover! Wow!
I think I lost my blog to this episode, wherein I stated that my biggest fear is that almost all of the charaters will end up with Gweedo in jail due to all sorts of crimes happening and/or will be happening.Who's gonna man the show? Dam and Eliza?I have goosepimple watching the good and evil battle it out. Good performance from Father Lupe and Carmeany.
ReplyDeleteUA, thanks for the fact about the singers being winner and 1st runner up of La Voz Mexico. didn't know that. checking the link now.
ReplyDeletethanks, marie!
wow! What a voice! what a performance! and what a gesture by Alejandro Sanz in the end... i am in awe. thanks marie!
ReplyDeleteanon 207, it is truly a small world. I am in the Varina area in Henrico.
ReplyDeleteisinya cukup menarikk...
