Por ella soy Eva #8 and #9 7/26/12 and 7/27/12: The Lion (or Puma!) Roars.

I’m your substitute recapper tonight, and I’m going to start with a brief summary of what happened Thursday, for those who missed it.

Eduardo comes home early, and Lalo helps sneak Juan out of the house. Helena gives him her project. At the office, Fernando and Santiago (Mutt & Jeff) are eager to see it. But Helena calls, and then he can’t bring himself to show them. “No puedo. Es una canallada.” Mutt & Jeff still haven’t been paid, so they beg JC to turn in Helena’s project.

Lucía is upset because of her sweetheart Sebastian. After she slept with him the first time, he got out of bed, went out the door, and disappeared from her life.

Eduardo finds Juan’s shirt and interrogates Sylvia. She dodges so he pressures Lalo. “If your mama has a boyfriend, he'll separate you from your mother. He’ll seem nice but hurt you when she's not looking, and she won't believe you.” Later Sylvia tells Lalo that Juan is good, and if anyone tries to hurt him, his mother will protect him.

Juan brings a bus tour to Viajes Moreno. Helena agrees to take Juan on a private tour of the city.

Plutarco and Rebeca are half naked, lying on the desk, and Antonia is just about to enter the office.

Now, Friday's episode.

The Surprise Behind Door No. 1
Antonia walks in and is shocked to see sweaty bodies groping on the desk. Alas, it’s her brother and his bimbo, not her husband and his bimbo. In the other GI lust-nest, Rebeca and Plutarco are getting dressed. She promises she’ll never again be unfaithful, and by the way, she’d like to take a taxi to the tourism bureau instead of going with her driver (Plutarco’s spy). Fat chance!

Guess Who's Coming to Work?
Antonia tells Adriano and Plutarco her wonderful news: she’s decided to work full time at the office. Plutarco warns that she she’ll be bored (in contrast to sitting at home watching telenovelas?), but she can’t be dissuaded and she’s eager to spend more time with him. He does not share her enthusiasm.

True Confessions
Helena takes Juan to an old convent, her favorite spot to relax and contemplate. He magically produces a romantic picnic lunch. He asks about other boyfriends, and she says she’s been unattached because men think a single woman is desperate and will tolerate anything. She asks about his past. Who was his first love? He answers, “Would you believe me if I said you’re my first love? I’ve never felt like this with anyone before.” She confesses that when she met him, she thought he only wanted to take advantage of her, but now she knows he could never hurt anyone. Juan suggests that for their next picnic, they should bring Lalo. His suggestion activates her love button. Juan urges her to present him to her parents, so he can clear the air with her father, especially now that they’re novios. But she’s worried about her dad’s health, and she wants to wait until her project succeeds and she can move out.

The Best Moment of the Show
Juan takes Helena home and watches from behind a tree as Eduardo comes out and yells at her, calling her a cualquiera and saying she brought a man home to “revolcarse” (roll in the hay). But when he manhandles her and calls her a streetwalker, Juan can’t take it anymore. He tells Eduardo that he’s Helena’s novia, and being her father doesn’t give him the right to mistreat/abuse the woman Juan loves (querer). Juan is appalled that a man could humiliate his own daughter like that and not appreciate what a treasure she is. Ed says that when Juan gets what he wants from her, he’ll throw her in the trash. Juan swears that he’ll never hurt her. Ed replies that Helena is an adult and if she gets hurt, that’s her problem, but if Juan hurts Lalito he’d better watch out.

Two Styles of Exchanging Ideas
Once inside, Lalo asks his mom, “If you marry Juan, will you still love me?” She assures him that everyone, even Juan, knows that her son will always come first. He likes that. Silvia tells Ed that Helena has a right to find love. Ed tells Silvia she hasn’t got a brain in her head, and I think he smacks her.

Not Everybody Loves Juan
Plutarco tattles to Adriano that he thinks JC diverted GI bus tours to another travel agency. Then he calls the bank to set up an account for his “mother,” but it’s really in the name of JC’s mother.

Later Pluto asks Adriano to approve his project, but Adriano will wait until he sees the final version. He warns JC that unless he turns in his project ASAP, Adriano will have to accept Plutarco’s proposal for PlayaM. He asks about the diverted bus tours, and JC denies any knowledge of them.

Where's Hippy Ed When You Need Him?
JC looks for a way to use Helena’s project without hurting her. Mutt & Jeff accuse him of falling in love. Mutt reminds him that if he wants to keep Helena instead of stealing her project, he’ll also have to explain to her that he’s not Argentinean, and he’s really the Juan Carlos that fired her. So JC asks his father how to fix his problem and not hurt Helena. Dad says women don’t understand reason, and things will go better for him if he uses the project. He should use Helena until he’s tired of her, then pay her off and forget about her.

Time to Hitch Up Your Chones
In the morning, Mutt & Jeff give JC a pair of tacones (high heeled shoes) because he said, “The day I suffer for a woman is the day I wear a skirt and tacones.” In response, JC demonstrates that he has decided which side he’ll play for. He shreds the PlayaM project CD.

  1. Thursday, Eduardo told Lalo that if his mother has a novio, he will seperate Lalo from his mother, and steal his mother's love away from Lalo. I think Ed was actually expressing his own fears that a man would take his daughter away. After all, you can't be a bully without a victim. Even Helena told Lalo tonight that Grandpa is very jealous.

Juan and Eva's date was at the Convento desierto de los leones. But Juan called it "desierto de los pumas" and Helena laughed. I think Camil stuck it in as a joke because he's been a Pumas (futbol) fan all his life.

Speaking of the convent, was it the same one as in Alborada, where Lucero was her half-sister's servant?

Pluto says his proposal is all ready except a few minor details like photos and the financial projections! If he wants GI to take on such a big investment, don't you think the financial projections would be important? Especially since he's the VP of Finance? And it's not something you can drum up in a few hours.

  2. Well done.

Eduardo could make the next Toxic Fathers list. His attitude is sick and despicable. He is hating the idea that his daughter is an adult and a sexual being and raising her son the way he is doing is his revenge for that.

I was salivating over the idea of Plutarco getting busted, but it's way too soon for that.

When does JC don his drag?

  3. Hey Paula...I was hoping you'd do a recap and you have mastered the succint to-the-point-style beautifully. Just enough. Short, snappy and snarky.

The denigrating macho attitude towards women in this would be funnier if it weren't the truth. It may be more subtle in the U.S. (or not) but it's still there.

Still, it's sweet to see one mujeriego empedernido fall deeply in love. Is anyone else though tiring of that fake Argentinian accent? I'm ready to see him dress in drag and team up with Paty Navidad.

Oh yes...nice analysis of the dad and his real reason to keep daughter under his thumb. Although we can assume he'll bully his wife to the grave, whether daughter is around or not. (And I thought he threatened to slap wife, raised his hand and made her flinch, but didn't actually connect. You were probably madly taking notes at the time, no?)

  4. Wow, Paula! Great job! Thanks for subbing!

I'm not watching this one (as I'm afraid I simply can't stand Jaime Camil in this role), but I'm enjoying the recaps.

Oh, jeez, Eduardo bullying his daughter and treating her like a whore. It's horrible! I hate how the whole household tiptoes around him and is afraid of him. Bleech!

  5. Wonderful recap Paula, and thanks for giving us the details on Thursday too. I hadn't seen either episode, but I had seen the preview implying that Antonia catches Pluto in the act. I am so disappointed that didn't happen. I agree, it's too soon.

I'm glad that JC saw first hand how Ed abuses Helena. I am so not looking forward to Ed feeling victorious after JC's deception is revealed.

  6. Paula, thanks for filling in AND for summarizing Thursday too. I like your take on Eduardo. He comes off as such a damned bully that it's easy to forget he's just as fearful as anyone else, if not more.

  7. Excellent recap, Paula. Since we were teased about Antonia finding Pluto with his pants down, it's good she's going to work there. She can make his life miserable while she rebuilds her skills.

I understand everyone may not care for Jaime Camil, but I enjoy his combination of goofy charm and hot latin looks. I'm focusing my dislike on uber controlling toxic dad Eduardo. Also hoping for Helena to fix her hair differently.

  8. Boy, Paula, it's been too long w/o a PaulaH brand recap! Great! Thanks.

Still trying to decide if I like this TN or if I just needed a break from the Recent Darkness of the late and un-lamented El Tal and the incessant sniveling and criminal behavior of Abismo. Jaime Camil and Lucero seem to be doing a great job, but somehow the story seems a bit, what?, diluted somehow.

Eduardo needs to have his ass kicked. I've been through the travails of raising a daughter but this guy is a travesty and a slur against fathers generally.

  9. Paula H, Ezra, Melinama, Julie - thank.

I'm enjoying Jaime Camil and Mutt & Jeff, but I'm so ready for the women to turn the tables on the jerks in this story.

  10. I agree, I'm hoping we don't have to wait too much longer for JC's "transformation." Although as bad as JC is, it's Pluto I'd like to see neutered. Or at least thrown in jail or something.

  11. "it's been too long w/o a PaulaH brand recap!" Thanks, Mike. That just means it's been too long without a Jaime Camil novela!

How long until the men get their just deserts? Well, we know the villain always falls (often literally) in the final week. But of course the women will start gaining some ground before that, especially since this is a Colombian script. I'm trying to remember from Camil's Twitter, when he became Eva. I remember he posted something like, "Today's wardrobe" with a picture of a skirt and tacones. I'm sure it was at least a month into filming, maybe two months.

This is a short TN, so we won't have to wait TOOOO long, no matter what.

  12. Thank you so much Paula H!

I don't know if I can watch this one regularly, but I do keep up with the recaps and I appreciate the concise, snappy, just-the-facts style of them all (Ezra, Melinama and Julie--many thanks!)

I hate that I didn't catch ANY of Friday's shenanigans. I think I'm going to seek it out online just to see Juan go off on Gramps.

    Really?

Ooo. I may have to MAKE time for this one. I like that it's short. :-) I've never seen Jaime in anything, but the little I'm seeing I like his facial expressions.

  14. I am enjoying the comedic moments but Edwardo brings out my 'burning bed' instinct. I think he is a strait up mysogynist (sp?) He was brutally cold and unwelcoming when our heroine's girl friend dropped in. And on several occasions he has belittled women because they are women.
That near slap and flinch was followed by an intriguing close-up of a broken figurine, obviously from a past confrontation. Ooow, I can hardly wait for that tale to be revealed.
