Refugio Para el Amor #66-67 Wed 7/11/12 Lorenzo goes to jail and EVERYONE SHOUTS ABOUT IT

Hi, readers! It looks like this is my last two-hour Refugio. Starting next week, I'm hopping onto the Eva-train...

But as for this episode, we get a lot of Frigida's smug eavesdropping. I still don't really get her motivation. Is she just an evil witch? She licks an awful lot of boots (Gala, Rosalena, etc...) but no one cares about her.

Rod and Luci are wistfully thinking about each other, in their respective locations. Surprisingly, they were not gazing up at full moons. The funny thing: both Pat on his hospital bed post-op (it was a success, by the way) and Luci's friend out in het het say the exact same thing: don't blow your only chance at happiness!

Speaking of that hospital scene, there's a little gathering around the bed for everyone to talk about Rod and Luci. Pat scolds his mom: he's your son. Aren't you supposed to like, look out for his happiness? With all your scheming against Luci, it's time to help Rod a little. He asks her to help convince Rod to get back with Luci. Amusingly, she replies "what, meddle in my son's love life? I would never stoop so low!" Lol. Then Pat tries Maximino, who looks a little more receptive, but Rosalena shuts him down, too.

Gala and her mom go to visit Lastra. They are clearly behind the impending arrest of Lorenzo (but I thought he really stole the money), but the part I don't get is why they think that keeping Lorenzo in jail will ensure Rod and Luci's divorce.

Gerardo's, Vicky's dad, gets fired. Aldo heads to Boston to try to un-muddle the huge mess he's made aaaaaand go shopping. Unsurprisingly, his mom thinks he's going to screw it all up.

Now comes the shouting part! The cops come to arrest Lorenzo and everyone yells at them, especially Luci's friend who fancies herself a lawyer - "let me see that warrant!" "he has rights!" There are many scenes of this. Then, Paz and her friend, who had been calling Luci at the moment of the arrest, get a busy signal and spend several scenes throughout the rest of the show wandering around town and wondering if something's wrong.

Maximino feeds Rod his jello, but sympathetically tries a bite and realizes how awful it is. For this, we came all the way to Boston?

Rod goes to apologize to Luci and make everything right, but she's not having it. "You were supposed to protect me!" Him: "you were supposed to be with me forever!" So much for that. Rod goes back to his huge empty apartment for an angry topless workout.

Rosalena finds Aldo snoozing in the airport. She yells at him and calls him a dope. Then he comes to the hospital, where Maximino yells at him and calls him a dope (I only hired you on account of your mother!). Aldo is confused. "Are you only mad at me because I dated your youthful mistress?" Then he flies home where, not to be outdone, Rod yells at him and calls him a dope and much worse. He's all jazzed-up and muscly from his shirtless workout of remorse. He extracts the tale of Lastra's involvement (Lastra helped set this up, and has been waiting for Luci to come begging for mercy for her brother) and heads out with an evil look on his face.

Most of the evil ladies of the show are gathered together at a picnic table to complain about Luciana. Frigida hovers and, after Rosalena leaves, lets Gala and her mom know about some juicy flaming dirt she's got for them about Luci if they can pay.

Meanwhile in Berlin... we get a quick cutaway to see what Linares is up to. He's in a dark room with a flashlight, rifling through an aluminum briefcase, and uncovers a document signed "Linares, 1991." That's odd, because he was in Prague in '91! He grins, and announces to the security cameras that "this is the tip of the iceburg that will sink Torreslanda!"

Poor Procopio is having trouble holding down the evil empire in het het, and nobody will eave him alone, especially the large lady.

Rosalena's pet priest is losing patience with her. "You can't judge others the way you do! It's not right!" Then he tells her that he's getting ready to tell Linares THE WHOLE TRUTH!

At a cafe, wearing absurd sunglasses for secrecy (though Gala makes her take them off), Frigida spills the beans, though she fails to extract any money for them.  According to some half-overheard conversation, she is CERTAIN that Maximino is the one who was unfaithful, and that Luci is his daughter. Though she is most likely wrong, Gala is of course happy to hear this, as it would pretty much invalidate any of Luci's claim on Rod. What, does she think Rod will take her back?

Angry Rod bursts into Lastra's den of lasciviousness and pins his head to the desk. This looks good! Stay tuned...

  1. Fabulous final recap for us Ezra! One of your best. Short, sassy, and savory.

It's about time Lastra had his face pounded again, and Rod has all of that pent up rage he's been trying to rid himself of on his punching bag. Speaking of Hot Head Rod's topless angry workouts, it's not working as an anger management strategy. I think he comes out of those workouts more angry than when he started. Maybe he should try yoga instead.

Aldo also really got shoved around last night. Max was downright scary in that scene with him, and so was Rod. I felt bad for him, but he really needs a wakeup call about how his careless actions affect other people- Lorenzo, Vicky and Don Jero.

  2. I would love a replay/recap of that conversation Rod and Luci had because she made some really good points. She was spot on with everything she said to him, and he just came off as a weak, angry jerk, who doesn't deserve her. I'll have to rewatch that when I'm home later.

  3. Good stuff.

Frigida is just in it for the money. She also looks like an emotional vampire who feeds on others' misery. She may turn on Rosaelena before this is all over.

As for how Lorenzo's arrest helps Gala, she will think that Rod would want to run as fast as possible from anyone related to him.

    Get well, Patricio!

  4. Gala also wants to make Luci suffer, and that's her other motive for wanting Luci's bro in jail. Yes, Lorenzo took the money (gambling chips really), which is a crime. But Lastra did not have to press charges, especially since the money was returned in full. Everyone knows he's just doing it for spite against Luci.

  5. Ezra, thank you for this and all your other recaps, will miss them!
Urban, Fridgidera did say in the second or third episode when asked, that friendship is like a garden and she didn't feel like taking the time to water it, so she had none.

    absolutely, ezra! great cliffhanger indeed!
now if Rod only put his mind to the story about Luci the same way he has believed in Lorenzo's innocence... like Luci told him, you met my family, my town, you know me better than that!..
come on stoopid, wake up! before you lose 'your only chance at real happiness'... i am so in agreement with Pato, who insists that Rod had to listen to Luci's version of the story, but he wants to just appologize to Luci and continue on believing Gala's story. he still does not look very willing to open his mind to another version even though Luci keeps repeating that 'yes, all they said was true but not THAT WAY!!'. i dont want Rod to keep believing Luci is a 'ratera/ho__' only to rub it in her face later on if they get back together, he has to learn to believe in her completely and unconditionally.

  7. vivi, i remember most of what luci said, basically what i just posted, that she had already admitted to Rod that everything gala and her mom said was true, but not that way! that he should remember he defended her from Lastra himself when Lastra tried to abuse her, and Rod knows Lastra pushed himself on Luci, so the stealing of his wallet must be just his way to get back at her. hopefully what Rod yelled at Lastra in the cliffhanger, that all he wants is to hurt Luci to get back at her is really wha the believes.
Luci yelled at Rod that what hurt her most is that when they were crucifying her, he believed them and kept quiet, that he had promised her he would be with her and protect her, but he did not in the moment she needed him the most.
Rod really had no answer, he kept mostly quiet and quietly realized she was right and that she was not ready to forgive and forget so easily.

  8. Recap: good one!

Luci simply told Rod, "You are the one that doesn't get it." And, he doesn't. He continues to turn his back to Luci instead of talking. "It's like the neurons in his hippocampus keep misfiring or don't fire at all. A homo habilis discovering his opposable thumb says what?" (Leonard in The Big Bang.)

Felt like yelling to Rod, keep your damn, dirty hands off me you ape as he pawed Luci in frustration I guess 'cause when it comes to expressing himself he is one messed up dude. Unless it's someone he can punch or intimidate.

Too, are we to make something of Paz and Magda avoiding Don A-hole at the "truck" shop. Don A might having given Paz a headsup that her hijo's were flashing the bat signal.

that is why Pato comes through as so much more solid, mature and strong as a potential match for Luciana. She is in unknown territory, with many more enemies than friends around, the last thing she needs is the man she loves to turn his back on her like that and then try to make her the one that has to give all the explanations. he has to show some 'beef' and brain matter. otherwise, like Pato said, Rod does not deserve Luciana's love.

  11. Thank you so very much Ezra for this great last recap, and all the two hour ones you slogged through. We will miss your unique brand of humor.

Oh, I can't stand those b/witches, but now Conny knows exactly that Julie and Gala and Rosa were involved! I hope there is some ratting out soon.

Poor Padre Honesto, he got a break from ole Rosa but now all this sturm und drang. I like how he wouldn't look at that magazine. I like how he said something like walk a mile in her shoes and see how hard it is for someone who is poor. Yeah Ms. Judgemental can't begin to realize she is the one that gave this girl the life she has. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Galindo and Paz loved/love her unconditionally and Luci has a wonderful head on her shoulders. Rosa should go to the manicomio tout de suite, and Max should put her there. He has her number.

I feel sorry for Aldo but I don't. He is the main reason Lorenzo is in jail and the reason Don Jer got fired. He always acts first and thinks later.

Rod is still *dead to me*, while he had Luci with him, he should have said I will listen to your whole story about what happened. Did he do that??? No, he just kissed her hoping to bring her into submission,Note to Rod: Kisses don't fix everything, Grow some stones, to replace that sand and find out the real truth.

  12. Marta- Thanks so much for that refresher on what Luci said. I was just cheering her on during that conversation. She converyed how heatbroken she was, while at the same time she showed such strength and conviction. I must watch that scene again this evening.

Madelaine- "No, he just kissed her hoping to bring her into submission,Note to Rod: Kisses don't fix everything." Amen! ITA.

  13. Ezra: I agree - this was terrific. So much fun. I laughed out loud at "Lastra's den of lasciviousness" and "Rosalena's pet priest" - really great lines. I've enjoyed every one of your recaps. Thank you.

Vivi, ITA that Rod ends up more worked up when he works out. LOL. Yes, yoga sounds great!

I was glad to see Luci showing some independence, despite the fact her heart is breaking. Rod knows he was wrong and at this point, is letting his stubborness over ride any semblence of common sense. M

Madelaine you said it best: "Kisses don't fix everything, Grow some stones, to replace that sand and find out the real truth". Exactly.

Aldo looked like a whipped puppy by the time Max was done with him. Max is charming with Pato one minute, then evil and conniving the next.

So suitcases are packed for a non-existent wedding. What next? Can't wait to find out.

  14. Ay, ay, ay, Ezra--We're going to miss you. I wish I had your talent to be so succinct and still turn in a beautifully crafted complete recap. I will try to emulate your style in future recaps. (Note I said I will try.)

  15. Thanks Ezra. Have fun with your new assignment. Not looking to check that one out, so we'll miss you.

I loved how Luci just made Rod feel like lower than pond scum last night. I was giving her a "You go girl" ! He so deserved it, if only for the crap way he was also manhandling her.

So he decks Lastra. Good one, but too bad he can't do the same thing to himself. maybe a good slap up the head will also help.

I realize that Lurch, or Frigida, is in it for the money, but what is her ultimate endgame. Usually you get why they want the money, etc. Did I miss something? Is she planning to buy a retirement condo in the islands somewhere?

And Gala really thinks that she can get Rod back...I guess we have to remember she doesn't know some of what we know, or what people are trying to beat into Rod. But really? he told you once he doesn't love you...thick as a brick.

Padre needs to throw Rosa out and tell her that her hatred, her lies and her attitude are more sinful than anything she is accusing someone else of and that he will not hear her "confessions" nor will the guy upstairs until she cleans up her act.

I am just chomping at the bit to see Pato start sitting up or moving more. Now that would be a great job for Luci - bring him home and he insists she work with him again. Rosa would probably not allow it, but would be great if it could happen.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't know if Frigida has a real endgame. She's just a strange woman. We never mentioned it in the recap or comments, but in one of the episodes last week or the week before, we saw Frigida writing in her journal. The journal entry we heard read like a bodice ripper, where Frigida had put herself in the heorine/damsel role, Rod was her galan, and Luci was the tramp who had stolen him from her. It was funny as heck and creepy at the same time. Not sure if she's trying to write fiction, or if this is just part of her sick imagination. It was hinted at from the beginning that Rod was her favorite person in the house. The ONLY person in the house she liked. She would fix him special meals and such. Things she doesn't do for anyone else. She was immediately jealous of Luci when she saw Rod's attachment to her. Once Rod was lost to her, then it became all about getting even with Luci, even if it meant screwing over the Torreslandas, who she doesn't like or have any loyalties to.

The money didn't seem as important to her in the beginning when Gala and Julie started paying her. But now, she is starting to like it and starting to get greedy.

  17. I love Luci going all Katie Holmes on Rod. He couldn't believe she would consider divorcing him. What an arrogant ass. What did he think she was going to stay married to him forever after his mother and her cronies trashed her and he did nothing. When she ripped into him and said your silence broke my heart it nearly broke mine. I love her pride and self respect because this moron still won't ask her to tell him the story.

There was what looked like another Univision cut. When J and M arrived at his apartment it immediately jerked to a scene with Luci. What the hell are they doing? Trying to ruin the best novela on the air? Frankly I'm sick of the endless flogging of Eva and am becoming more disinclined to watch it.

Loved, loved, loved the good Padre ripping into Rosa about her trash session. She goes all holier than thou about Luci and her sordid past and he reminds her of her horrific sin in keeping the girl from having the life she should have with her lies. Of course Rosa tells him she is going to tell Claudio the truth - as if there is anyone on the planet who would believe that.

Can't help wondering if Luci will arrive at Lastra's office to beg, (I so wish she would listen to her lawyer and everyone else and not do it) and find Rod there beating the bejeezus out of the man. In any event I think that his associate might be the one to tell Rod the truth about Luci. Everyone else (except the witches) knows she worked only one night in Infierno but somehow no one thinks to spill the beans .

I'm thinking Lastra should be careful about skimming money. If Max finds out he'll get something much worse than Aldo got.

Can't help thinking that this mysterious doctor we haven't seen might be a hot number and someone for Pato. Speaking of Pato I know that Rod knows Pato loves Luci but I wonder if it has entered his blockhead that Pato is in love with Luci.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Decie Girl- "I know that Rod knows Pato loves Luci but I wonder if it has entered his blockhead that Pato is in love with Luci."

I think when Pato kept calling Luci's name as he came out of the anesthesia, was the first time Rod started to guess that Pato's feelings go way beyond brotherly love for Luci. I'm guessing that he has decided to block it out of his tiny mind, for now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I keep thinking about how Luci could have told Rod what happened. She hardly had a minute what with him promising her a rose garden then dumping a truckload of Round Up all over it.It would have been pretty hard for her what with all the we'll be together forever blather to suddenly say "Oh by the way before i became a domestica I worked one night in this horrible place called Infierno and the man there accused me of being a thief and I met a nice lawyer at the carcel by the name of Claudio Linares who saw the charges were false and the case was dismissed. Anything more about my sordid past you'd like to know?

  20. daisynjay--your quote, "And Gala really thinks that she can get Rod back.......But really? he told you once he doesn't love you...thick as a brick."

For Gala it's all about recovering her prestige and dignity....and a bit of a fortune on the side doesn't hurt. I don't think she was ever really into Rod emotionally, he was just a terrific catch and with her two BFF and his two BFF, they made an attractive social group. The two of them probably had agreed to some sort of an understanding that included some really hot s*x.

Rod did tell her he didn't love her (after the break-up at the civil registration table--I refuse to call it an altar), but that's not going to stop Gala from trying to snare him in her web again. She lost too much face not to try, even if in her anger for vengeance, she dumps *him* in the end.

  21. Great comments Anita, daisy, Decie and Vivi!

Decie Girl: "I love Luci going all Katie Holmes on Rod" had me laughing out loud.

Vivi, I guess I completely missed Frigida and her bodice-ripping delusion/novel. Thank you for that very interesting revelation. Strange doesn't begin to cover her.

    Love this blog.

  22. Vivi, i clearly remember the scenes of Frigida and her writing in her journal, and the scenes at the first few episodes with her showing the significant preference and priority for Rodrigo. Creepy indeed... but i guess that whole thing about the journal and her 'dreams' is meant to be comic relief... but now since she knows Rodrigo is hopelessly in love with Luciana in a way Frigida never saw him be in love with Gala, she is focusing on what she can still get, the money... now that she found out Rod and Luciana are possibly half siblings, she might get her hopes high again about Rodrigo if she can manage somehow to get Gala out of the way... we will see what she does next, now that she knows Luciana is at same social level as the TorresLanda.
more to come. have to go look at an apartment complex nearby

    ReplyDelete
  23. and i agree, Frigida does not show the type of loyalty to the TorresLanda that you would expect from their long time maid of honor type person... she is more all about her own interests... and getting back at the people who want to take the 'power' away from her. i can't wait for Claudio to start showing face for Luciana... then the game will get much more interesting.

  25. This Novella has a lot more episodes to go, but a new one is starting next week were will they air Refugio the cant just end it in the middle........
I have found episodes on you tube but I
don't understand Spanish and need the blogs, if anyone knows where else I can see it pleas let me know thanks

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anna- You can see past episodes on Hulu for free. If you want to look ahead, please e-mail me or Madelaine or Anita and we can send you the link. Since Univision trolls sites to find out where people are seeing things in advance so that they can yank those videos, we don't want to post the link too often on the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Refugio is not ending Anna. It will be on for just one hour each night, from 7-8 pm EST (6-7 pm Central). We will still be recapping it, so not to worry.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank You so much Im glad you will be recapping I will watch it online because univion has replaced Refugio with other novella unless the TV Guide is wrong I hope.....But again thank you so much.......

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey Anna- It's not being replaced. Instead of two hours each night, it will be one hour each night. The lineup will look like this (EST):
    7pm- Refugio
    8pm- Por Ella Soy Eva
    9pm- Abismo de Pasion
10pm- La Que No Podia Amar

So, sit down in front of your tv at the same hour you usually would for Refugio. You just won't get as much of it each evening as you did before (down from 2 hours to 1 hour). And, please start commenting more often! :)

  30. Just have to say thanks so much for these recaps! What a fabulous service. I am learning spanish and getting %75, but I really need these to fill in the gaps.

I love this show--and like the other commenters wish Rod would get it together--I find myself hoping he will come to his senses with Luci and Pato will fall in love with the little girl's Mom (the one who went to the states--maybe to find work? A Torreslanda could fix all those problems). Oh and I am pulling for a Lorenzo and Hannah match up!

    Thanks again!

  31. love your recaps. I have a question tho, I watch refugio on channel 402 at 4pm and initially they have a caption in english but converts to spanish after a sentence. I wonder why. I would appreciate if it would continue in english. Is there a station that would caption it in English? Thanks very much. I am in LA, CA.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey Anon 10:58- What network are you watching? 4pm huh? That's an unusual time. I know Univision is in LA, which has the same schedule all across the country for their evening programming. I don't use captions, so I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Univision provides both Spanish and English captions, although there are many complaints from commenters about captions often being non-sensical. I think Hulu, which shows the episodes one day later online, has captions.

  33. Vivi, tx for the info. I watch UNIehd 402 next to GALA 404 -direct tv in LA 4pm to 7 pm-refugio and abismo. Then if I miss it I go KMEX 34 7pm to 10pm for a repeat. I do the caption cuz I read better Spanish than conversation. I'm gonna try HULU. Tx. Anon 10:58
