Refugio Para el Amor #73 Tue 7/17/12 The Truth According to Rosa; Pato Gains Ground on Rod in the Pool

Luciana has just shown the infamous magazine to Paz and Magda, who are flipping through the pages in disbelief.

Meanwhile, downstairs, Estella gets ready to join Marianita in bed. Marianita cradles her magic wand and wishes with all her heart for her mother to return and to return well. But if it’s dangerous for her to return, then Marianita prefers that her mom remains in the States, and she’ll go find her when she’s older.

Luci spills everything about the surprise attack by the Blonde B/Witches and how she couldn’t defend herself. Magda and Paz are just as upset as Luci to hear how it all went down. “My God, what cruelty (saña) against my daughter.” Luci mentions that they even brought Aquiles from the pueblo to be part of the attack. This really ticks off Magda. Paz asks if Aquiles was there that day. Luci tells them how he came to the apartment to find her, but nothing happened. He left after she told him to leave her in peace. Magda can’t believe people could be so evil. Luci really starts to lose it. Ever since she met Gala and Julie, they have done nothing but make her life hell, just because she isn’t from their class. Paz wants to go tell those women off. “Take me there Luciana! Take me! I’m going to put them in their place!” Luci doesn’t see the reason to. Those women are so stupid that they don’t understand that it’s what inside that counts, not what you have.  They are heartless and soulless. Paz can’t believe she wasn’t there with Luci in these tough moments. Luci tries to calm her down. Everything is over now, and it wasn’t all bad. She also met great people like Lic. Linares, who’s been like and angel for her. Paz’s eyes shoot wide open again. She and Magda give each other the look.

Boris and Hannah are video chatting via their IPads about some math she’s having trouble with. They agree to meet early (6 am!) before classes so that he can help her. Melissa is spending the night in Hannah’s room and is busily working on her thesis. Max comes in to check on the girls. He wants to know how Melissa’s thesis is going, with Claudio. He manages to sound only a little menacing. Melissa is all happy smiles about Claudio. Max tells her not to trust Claudio, but Melissa just doesn’t buy it. “El Lic. is a brilliant man, professional and transparent.” Max says he hopes she’s not mistaken. He’s never doubted that she’s intelligent and hard working- the characteristics of success ( éxito). Hannah jumps in and says she has all of those characteristics of success too, except she’s not as disciplined as Melissa. Max chuckles and tells the girls not to stay up (desvelar) too late, and leaves. Hannah goes back to her conversation with Boris, just as Melissa’s phone rings. It’s Aldo with news that Lorenzo is out of jail. Both girls squeal in delight, and Hannah completely forgets Boris is there. Looks like his patience for Hannah’s preoccupation with Lorenzo is wearing thin. “You’re really happy, right?” Hannah picks up on his annoyance and tries to change the subject back to math, but Boris now has a bad case of the green eyed monster.

Of all the bars in Mexico City, Gabriel and Marcos have to bring Rod to the one where Gala and her crew are celebrating HIS divorce. G&M are happy to run into their girlfriends Valentina and Fernanda and immediately leave with them for the dance floor. Rod is left to sulk at the bar, with Gala waiting to pounce on her prey. She makes the first move by asking across the bar how he is. He gruffly says he’s here. She approaches and says she heard about his divorce. “That’s how you planned it, right? You, Julie and my mother. Congratulations Gala. You got what you wished for.”  Gala acts like the offended party that he would expect the worst of her. She says they shouldn’t continue the conversation because she doesn’t want to fight. “It’s better that I leave, and you continue to celebrate whatever it is you need to celebrate.”  She calls for her posse to bounce. G&M walk the ladies out. Rod can’t believe he was supposed to be marrying Luci in just a few days.

Luci has fallen asleep sitting up in the couch. Paz looks at her daughter and says to Magda that she was supposed to be marrying Rod in two days. “Poor thing. How much she’s suffered. How they have mistreated her Magda. And look at her. With all of that, still studying and trying to get ahead.” Magda points out that Luci has always been a fighter since she was little. Paz doesn’t think she can scold Luci for keeping quiet about things, when she herself has been doing the same thing by not telling her the truth about her origins. Magda says that Paz had to keep quiet because she gave her word/made a promise (juramento). Paz thinks she and Luci have kept their secrets for the same reason. Because of fear. The same fear she feels right now when she thinks of telling Luci the truth. Magda thinks she can’t keep quiet for much longer. Paz says she’s right. Keeping quiet would make her just as bad as Rosa. Luci has the right to know. “Tell her Paz. Tell her now. God knows why we were sent here.”  “Yes. I can no longer continue to keep quiet. My silence has ended.”

More angry workouts from Rod. He flings his water bottle across the room. (Dude, try yoga! Your hair does look better today though.)

The next day, Luci studies for her exam, but visions of Rod’s face break her concentration. Ariche runs in to say there’s a man downstairs looking for her. She leans over the rails and sees…Patricio! He is pleased that she actually called him by his name instead of Joven. She is thrilled to see him and runs down the stairs with Ariche.

In Het Het, Procopio is taking his new job very seriously and in the midst of counting candles. Luchita comes for a visit, and he brags about all their funerary services, including flower arrangements and wreaths of all kinds of exotic flowers. Luchita has really come to try to steal him to help manage her clothing stalls. She’s diversifying and opening another stall with cheap Chinese made products, like hair accessories and such. Copio thanks her, but he’s already made a commitment to Don Serapio. He offers her use of the phone.

In the apartment courtyard, Luci happily greets Pato. She’s glad to see that he feels and is doing better. “Luci, if I came here today, it’s to tell you that what happened between you and my brother has nothing to do with our friendship. Please. Don’t distance yourself (alejarse) from me because of your divorce.” Luci tells him that won’t happen. She has deep affection and admiration for him. He tells her how good it is to hear that, then invites her to accompany him to his first hydrotherapy session that morning.  She’s always been important for his recuperation. She agrees, but needs to tell her mom first. Pato would love to meet her mom, but has no time now. Luci promises to pass on his greetings. Ariche stays with Pato while Luci runs upstairs. They remember each other from Het Het, before Pato had his accident. Ariche wants to know what happened; why’s he in a wheelchair now? Pato explains he had an accident and how the chair moves without anyone pushing it. Ariche is impressed and wants a ride. He hops on and zips through the courtyard with Pato. Ariche even takes a turn maneuvering the wheelchair controls. Inside Estella’s place, Paz is not pleased to hear Luci is going out to hang with a Torreslanda, but must grudgingly give her permission.

Rod is continuing to vent his pent up emotions by resuming riding his motorcycle to work. Must be nice to have someone waiting at the door with a freshly pressed suit for you. Once inside his office, he calls the big house asking for Pato and finds out from Mati that he’s already left for his first hydrotherapy session. Rod had wanted to accompany him, so he’ll catch up to him. Mati tries to give Rod her condolences about the end of his marriage to Luci, but Hot Head Rod nearly rips her head off and says he doesn’t want to talk about Luci. He doesn’t even want to hear her name. Jerk!

Now that the older ladies have been left alone, Paz can let loose about how p*ssed off she is about the whole Rosa situation. Her daughter shouldn’t have to put up with so much suffering. And she regrets not having told Claudio that Luci is his daughter. “I’m Luci’s mother, and I will put Rosa in her place! The moment has come to confront her. To tell the whole world who that woman really is!”

Luci and Pato’s therapist Jorge watch as he works in the pool with the hydrotherapist. Pato points out that once again Luci is there for an important milestone in his life. He thanks her.

Magda is ready to roll as part of Paz’s posse, but then she wonders if Rosa will even still know who she is. Estella informs them that Rosa remembers perfectly well who Paz is, and got the information out of her during an interrogation. Then Rosa fainted and they had to take her to the hospital.

At the high school, Hannah is apologizing to Boris because she forgot her flash drive with info for her part of their group presentation with Lula. It’s obvious that he’s upset about more than the presentation. Boris takes her home to get the flash drive.

Connie gingerly approaches Rosa as she pours herself some tea, and notes that Rosa has seemed much better these last few days, than the last many weeks and months. She’s been worried about her. Rosa apologizes for all the bad moments over the last months, and thanks her for always being at her side. “Come what may (pase lo que pase), you are my sister. And I love you. I love you a lot. And I’ll always be by your side.” (Oh Connie. Rosa is so not worth that kind of dedication.) Rosa asks her to help her recover Rod’s love and respect. He was so rude (grosero) to her when she made that toast yesterday. (You know, the toast to his DIVORCE from the woman he loves.) Connie says that Rosa has to understand that he’s really hurting. Stepford Wife Rosa pours her tea and says that Rod will thank her eventually and see that everything she’s done is for his good. Connie hasn’t yet learned that you can’t reason with a crazy person (or a Pod Person) and tries to make Rosa see that she can’t control and dominate Rod. Rosa begs for Connie’s help with Rod again. Connie says she will always help Rosa, but she's worried about her. She’s not herself. Sometimes, she doesn’t even know who Rosa is. (BINGO! Because she’s a Stepford Pod Person!) Rosa gets all wide eyed and creepy. Whatever do you mean? You know me. I’m your sister. You surprise me Connie.
C: I don’t know you completely. You went to see Claudio Linares and you haven’t told me what you said to him.
R: I told him the truth.
C: What truth Rosalena?!
R: The TRUTH. Only the truth Connie.
C: There is only one *truth* Rosalena! And if you had told him, Claudio would be here, incriminating you for giving away his daughter when she was a baby.
R: What are you saying to me? I’m not Claudio Linares. Each person reacts differently. If Claudio has remained so tranquil after I told him the truth, then what do you expect me to do?
Connie grabs her and tries to shake the real truth out of her.
C: What did you tell Claudio Linares?!!
R: (Smiling and looking at Connie like she’s the crazy one.) Connie, I just asked you for some advice about my son Rodrigo. I didn’t want to speak about Claudio Linares. Ay, sister. At times you are so strange.
Rosa walks out of the room, as cool as a cucumber, and Connie shakes her head in frustration.

Claudio meets with Barrera and Norma. They look at his supposed signature on the fraud documents and his real signature. A side by side comparison shows that they are very similar, but not the same. Norma thinks they can prove he was not in Germany on those dates by getting old credit card info and travel docs to show he was in another country at the time. Claudio is sure that very soon it will be Max behind bars (las rejas).

Paz wants to just go find Rosa already, but Magda wants to make sure they know where they are going first. Estella knows perfectly well where the Torreslanda house is, so she will go with them.

On the corner, Ariche, Fabian, and Lorenzo are enjoying some street vendor tacos. Aldo walks up and joins them. Lorenzo tells Aldo that he and Fabian are still looking for work. In typical Aldo style, he offers to invest in any business that Fabian and Lorenzo think up. Ariche suggests that they sell tacos, since everybody loves tacos! Aldo thinks it’s a good idea. The kid has imagination. Aldo decides to make Ariche one of their partners. Ariche calls Aldo a mushashon loco. (Out of the mouth of babes.)

Padre Honesto is being driven to once again speak to his superiors about his special case—Rosalena Torreslanda. This time he’s seeing the Bishop about Rosa’s blasphemous “confession” about desecrating the graves and lying to Claudio about the remains of his wife and child. Never in all his years as a priest has he heard such a thing! The Bishop agrees that this is an extraordinary act that would shock anyone. But their duty (deber) as priests is to counsel precisely this kind of tortured soul. Padre Honesto wants his advice as his spiritual guide. The Bishop doesn’t seem to quite know what to advise him.

Paz, Magda and Estella arrive at the big house. Paz is amazed. The Torreslanda’s did not live in such a big, luxurious (lujo) house when she and Galdino were their gardeners. Max must have done well for himself over the years. Paz wonders if they’ll let them in. As they discuss this, Hannah runs out, greets Estella, and tells the guard to let them in.

Luci chats happily with Pato by the pool as his therapy continues. Rod walks in behind Luci, says good afternoon, and initiates a stare down.

Frigida is unfortunately the first person that Paz and her crew encounter at the front entrance. She laughs at them when they say they want to speak to Señora Torreslanda. Mati comes out of the house and is shocked to find Paz there. Both she and Frigida seem very aware that the crap is going to hit the fan with Luci’s mama come to find Rosa. Mati tells her that Rosa isn’t there right now. Too bad, because Paz doesn’t intend to leave until she speaks with Rosa about her daughter Luci. Estella takes Magda to the kitchen (via the servants’ entrance), while Mati takes Paz off to her room to talk.

Rosa comes to Padre Honesto’s office, but luckily he’s away seeing the Bishop. She orders the altar boy that’s in the office to tell the Padre she needs to see him, ASAP.

In her room, Mati tells Paz that she knew this day would come one day. Before she goes further, she walks over to her door, yanks it open, and Frigida nearly falls in, ear first. “Brigida, did you lose something? Come on in so that you can hear better.” Frigida says it’s not her style to look for gossip. (Give me a fricking break!) Mati shoos her off, then turns the radio on and puts it right up to the door.

Rod and Luci walk Pato out of the hydrotherapy center. Pato explains how he picked up Luci because it was important to him that she be at the first session. Luci says she’ll be at as many of them as Pato wants. Rod asks how Pato feels. He’s super tired from the session, but he feels good. Rod wants to drop him off at home, but Pato wants to drop Luci back home first. Luci tries to say she’ll find her way home alone, but Pato insists. She leans down and thanks him for letting her be part of something so important to him. He thanks her. They smile at each other. Rod scowls. Rod offers to take Luci home. She refuses, then slips away as he’s signing some medical papers for Pato.

Paz tells Mati that it was never her intention to return. But does she know how she felt last night when her daughter told her how Rosa has treated her? How she manipulated her son in order to separate them, making her out to be a slut. How she broke her Luci's heart separating her from the man she loves.
M: What can I tell you Paz? What’s done is done. Destiny, sooner or later, puts everything in its place.
P: That’s why I came Matilde. To tell the truth! To put Señora Rosalena in her place!
M: (Shaking her head.) Mi niña, Rosalena. (Oh, how I want to slap Mati each time she says that!)
P: Yes, Matilde. If your patrona hadn’t seen fit to tear my Luciana to pieces, I wouldn’t be here.  But I’m not going to allow her to keep harming her!

The Ice Queen is at the moment in her chariot, and has called Gala. She needs to speak to Gala urgently.

Rod returns to the office and gives Gabriel the update on Pato’s therapy. He then says he saw Luci at Pato’s therapy. “And?” “Nothing.” The only thing Rod discovered is that he doesn’t want to see her anymore. Jerk! He feels like an idiot (so true) and vulnerable when he’s near her. Gabriel says there is always an opportunity to correct a mistake. This is Rod’s opportunity. Max walks in and asks how Rod is. Rod says he’s fine, but Max isn’t buying it. “In less than a month you got married and then got divorced. I want you to know that I don’t want to know how you got to this point. You are what’s important to me. I just want to know that you’re well.” Rod once again says he’s fine. Max invites him out to eat, Rod’s treat.

Luci returns to Vio’s and asks where her mom is. Vio says she went out with Magda and Estella. (If only they knew where.) Luci is just about to tell Vio about running into Rod when there’s a knock at the door. It’s the male version of cling-wrap, Marcial, wanting to “explain” the fact that he’s married with kids for the umpteenth time. Vio doesn’t want to hear it. Luci decides to leave them alone and heads to Estella’s. Vio explains to Marcial that she’s no one’s sloppy seconds (plato de segunda mesa). “I love you Violeta, and I know that you also love me.” “Let me go! Leave me in peace!” (Sueltame! Dejame en paz!) She’s already got enough problems with her mama there. She doesn’t need another. He asks, how can he leave her in peace when he loves her?

Magda and Estella chat in the kitchen. Estella hopes that speaking with Mati will help calm Paz down a bit before she speaks with Rosa, because with the way Rosa is, things could get really ugly. Magda is surprised to hear how scary Rosa can be. Although it shouldn’t surprise her given that the woman was able to just give away a newborn baby.

Meanwhile, in Mati’s room, the pre-confrontation conversation continues.
P: Tell me Mati, La Señora Rosa knew exactly who my Luciana is, right?
M: Yes Paz. Yes she knew. She found out a little while ago.
P: And even so, she had the cynicism to treat her as she did? That woman is a demon disguised (disfrazado) as an angel!
M: No Paz. What it is, is that she has a great fear that if the truth is discovered her family would judge her for what she’s done. (I don’t see how this negates what Paz said. Can I slap Mati now?)
P: That is an absurd justification! Cowardice! Wicked/Despicable! (Canalla) Not the actions of a woman who flaunts her morality/rectitude, her religiosity. With greater reason Mati, that she SHOULD have treated my Luciana well, if simply just to respect the memory of the woman who gave her daughter over to her care. Did you tell her that I was willing to come here and tell the whole truth?
M: Yes. And she told me that she was willing to confront you.
P: Well here I am. And if it’s necessary, yes I will tell. I won’t do it for me, but for Luciana. Because she’s lost part of her life. At what moment did my Luci decide to come here to try her luck/make her way? I should have never permitted her to leave the pueblo.
M: What you need to keep clear in your mind is that even if Luci learns the truth, for her, her mother will always be you. She adores you and will eternally be grateful to you and Galdino for all you have done for her as her parents.

Paz says she knows, but thinks it will be natural for Luci to feel betrayed when she finds out the truth. Paz will have to carry the guilt of that the rest of her life. But Luci has to start living the life she was meant to live. Just yesterday Claudio Linares was with them. “Do you know how it was for me to see father and daughter together?” Mati freaks out. Paz says that Linares is such a warm (calido) man, so caring and he loves Luci like a father. “Luciana has a right to know that her father is alive.” She has a right to live a better life without deprivation (privaciones). And most of all she has a right to live with her father, if that’s what she wants.

Back at Vio’s, Marcial is still singing the same tune, but he hasn’t worn Vio down. She opens the door for him to go.  She gives meaning to his life. He’s just asking for a little more time. Blah, blah, blah. “Take all the time you need. But in the meantime, leave me in peace!” He can’t stop thinking about her a single moment. He comes up behind her and puts his arms around her. Just then, his crazy wife storms in, triumphant that she’s caught the pair of cheaters in the act!

Avances: Rosa and Paz rumble in the library! Who will come out the victor?

  1. This was a bit of a slow episode-- obviously a set up episode for the fireworks that will come when Paz and Rosa meet face to face tomorrow. That should be good.

Loved Pato going to get Luci and all the happy smiles they exchanged, especially in front of Rod, who each day realizes that Luci may love him, but she likes his brother better, and his brother is crazy about her. Go Pato!

  2. Wonderful, wonderful recap Vivi. I too want to slap Mati, on the count of three. Let's sock her one. Of all the nerve. She knows exactly what her nina Roselena is all about. Horrid woman Rosa is and Mati just aids and abets her.

Poor Padre Honesto. Priests actually do have spiritual advisors. I wonder how they will proceed with this, Exorcism anyone???? Not really but she is going straight to hell. I think Anita asked the other day if the Padre had ever counseled anyone else besides Rosa. He counseled Luci.

Good for Paz and and the confrontation to come. At least Paz knows what she has done wasn't right, compared to Rosa who blames everyone else but herself.Frigid what a putz. She needs a good smack on that ear, jus' sayin'. I'm glad at least Mati put the radio on, so Frigid couldn't hear. Annoying woman. This smackdown between Rosa and Paz will be good.

Aldo, is so funny. I can see the guys having a taco stand, they should also sell that yummy grilled corn.

That Rosa, she just doesn't get it. She's right, everyone is all wrong and she can't see how she hurts anyone. I think, truely, she is heartless besides being a stepford pod person. Really no feelings at all. Poor Conny and everyone else that has to put up with her. What bugs me the most is she can't understand why Rod wants nothing to do with her. So clueless. He'll never forgive her for what she did to him, even though *dead to me Rod* isn't acting as a gentleman either.

Loved Luci being with Pato during his hydrotherapy. He does so need her for his recovery. Her cheerfullness helps him. Good for them they are happy together and screw *dead to me Rod* for being jealous. It should be eating him up.

So Gagme is going to begin the pursuit. I think she is going to be doing something shady. I wouldn't put it past her at all. Look at what she has already done.

Vivi I am conflicted too about Max. I hate what he did to Vicky and what he is doing to Aldo, but the way he treats his kids and he is very nice to Luci too. It's hard to hate him completely.

Poor Vio, she can't get a break from Marcial. Then his crazy wife shows up. I guess she doesn't beleive they were just talking. Many confrontations to come.

  3. Ya know Rosa thinks this is her:

    From Godspell and Sister Act
Oh, Happy Day (oh happy day)
Oh Happy Day (oh happy day)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
    Jesus washed (When Jesus washed)
    Washed her sins away
    Oh Happy Day

    Instead she is

On The Highway To Hell (AC/DC)

    No stop signs, speed limit
    Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
    Nobody's gonna mess her around
Hey satan, she paid her dues
    Hey, Claudio look at her
She's on her way to the promised land

She's on the highway to hell
    Highway to hell
    And she's going down.

  4. LOL! Love the song lyrics Madelaine. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to slap Mati. Sweet lady, but in total denial about her nina Rosa.

  5. Vivi, great recap. Love your comfortable style of writing.
The more I see of Rod, he seems like a immature guy that needs to grow up; and if I were Luci I would be glad I found out what poor problem solving skills the guy has before I married him.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Vivi, I'll join you and Madelaine in slapping Mati. Yes, aiding and abetting and Connie too; she also needs to tell Claudio already. You know your crazy sister told some lie or lies, called them truth, and is acting like the queen she believes she is. It's sickening. And based on the preview, I think Rosa will be the winner again. It's so disappointing when good people allow horrific things to happen.

Loved Pato and Luci being friends and her encouraging him. Rod does himself no favors by continuing to act worse than a jerk. As Emaire noted, its good Luci found out now he has NO problem solving skills.

I know the writers probably won't shaft GS again and not give him the girl but he think Rod is acting even worse than his character did in QE.

Mads - yes, Max can be such a concerned dad and then turn into the evil guy who torments other young people who could be his children. My flashbacks to his drugging and cuffing Vicky prevent me from seeing his kindness to his kids in a better light.

  7. Vivi,

Great recap although I was disappointed in the episode. I want Paz to light into Rosa and then go to Claudio and put an end to her lies.

I try to like Max because of his kids but then I think about poor Claudio and spending 20 years in the carcel and I get angry all over again. Rosa and Max deserve each other.

Yes, the guys really need to start a taco stand on real busy street corner. They will make a fortune.

I love Pato, such a sweet, caring young man. I wouldn't mind seeing he and Luci together in the end.

  8. Thanks Emarie, Karen and Rosemary P. Let's form one of those lines like in Airplane to slap Mati.

Yes, I would add Connie and Padre to the list too, but Mati bugs me the most because she is the only one who attempts to defend Rosa. I can understand that being her sister, Connie would be hesitant. Padre seems to think he can pressure Rosa into telling the truth herself, which I guess would be good for her soul. My problem with Mati is that she says she cares for Luci and will protect her, but her actions say something else. No one comes before Rosa.

As for Luci and Pato- It was so nice seeing them both so happy, relaxed and smiling, until Rod came along and spoiled the mood with his scowling.

  9. Rod took four more steps up the jackass ladder tonight. Two for saying he didn't want to hear Luci's name and two more when he told Gabe he didn't want to see her. He brings new meaning to the jackass.

Mati and Conny both need a couple of good slaps. What Rosa is doing is doing is so wrong and they are in effect accomplices. I don't care how much you love someone loyalty has no place when someone is committing crimes and destroying lives. I'm starting to hope Mati loses her job and good kind Oscar dumps Conny. There is enough punishment to go around and they deserve some of it.

I am worried about those previews of Rosa snarling that Luci will hat Paz forever for deceiving her.I hope the woman has enough sense to say Luci isn't that kind of person not like her precious Rod who is. Alas I fear they are going to drag this out which bugs the heck out of me because Lord knows there are still plenty of nasty truths lurking in the wings.

Pato get a few more angel point for how he treats children. Both of the little ones are entranced with him and I remember my Dad telling me dogs and little kids can always tell who a person really is.

Rod "I don't want to see her" is obviously pithed that she and Pato get along so well. Just because he could so easily cut her out of his life he expects his brother and sister to do the same. Too bad for him that they can see who Luci really is while he being a blockhead can't.I wish he would just tell Gage me to stay the hell out of his life and mean it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Mati is both afraid of losing her job and afraid to see that the little girl she raised didn't turn into the good person she hoped her to be. Rosalena may have been a loving mother when her children were children, but now that the two boys are adults she is losing it because she can't control them anymore.

So she tries to control who has access to them.

If Patricio recovers and is able to pursue girls again she will really lose it, particularly since this is going to take a while and by that time Jana will be old enough to Get Serious about a guy.

There was an earlier observation about her wanting them to love her to the exclusion of loving anyone else. This is way beyond sick and I predict she will either commit suicide or end up in the manicomio.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Great job Vivi and thanks for the literal conversations. Always so helpful.

I'll join you in the "Mati, shut up already" group. I'm also sick of her double talk. No matter what she says, I always have this sick feeling that if it came down to protecting anyone else or "her Rosa", she would choose Rosa. She is an enabler.

As for Paz, man she is becoming my hero. She use to drive me batty with the fainting and agonizing, but man, she's just straightening that spine and ready to do battle even if it means Luci is mad at her for a spell. Yep, a lionness.

Can we send Rod on a business trip again and let Pato and Luci get to know each other more without him? For all his protesting, I wouldn't put it past him to keep popping up at therapy sessions, etc. Get lost dude.

So if Luci graduates, what then. I would sort of like to see her head into some sort of professional career, or become a therapist herself, inspired by Pato. When Max is brought down and Rosa becomes the very "low class" entity she hates, I so want Luci to be this successful woman who made something of herself. Not sure if they would do a fast forward here though to allow for that.

  12. Vivi, I didn't get home in time to see this but as soon as I saw the title, I relaxed and knew you would convey everything. And you did. Perfectly. Marvelous as usual.

"male version of cling-wrap" had me chuckling out loud. I so enjoyed your conversation translations, complete with embedded vocabulary: "My God, what cruelty (saña) against my daughter.”

    Fun song lyrics Madelaine!

ITA with everyone wanting to slap some sense into Mati. Basta. And Karen, yes, Connie needs a wake up call too. Sibling or not - she is aiding and abetting Rosa and must stop participating in the cover up.

So glad Pato is not giving up on his friendship with Luci. Those vipers have totally beat her into the ground. And Rod has done nothing but add to the hurt. BTW, I wish Soto would highlight his hair - the very dark locks are reminding me of the horrible criminal he played in Verdad (Agree - Vivi? Karen?)

I can't wait to watch the Paz Rosa conversation - my money's on Paz. Hell hath no fury like a mother's daughter scorned.

  13. Thanks again Vivi! Another awesome recap!

daisynjay- I completely agree with you about what Luci should do after school. But, you also make the valid point that we are in a race against the clock at this point. There are so many things I would like to see happen before the end of this TN and there is such little time.

And even though I know it probably will not happen, I like seeing Luci and Pato together. When Ariche told Luci to come outside and he was there I got so excited. It is good to see Pato getting out of the house and doing what he wants to do. I am happy to see him in these moments where he is regaining a little bit of normalcy (which is hard to say about someone growing up in la Casa de Torreslanda). And though I really want him to end up with Luci, I would really like to see Pato with someone. Someone who can appreciate him because we all know at this point that he is a MAJOR catch.

I am anxiously awaiting the throwdown tonight between Paz and Rosa. The previews made it look like Rosa tries to put up a good fight. But I hope Paz pulverizes her.

  14. Great recap Vivi. You seamlessly follow the action with some helpful embedded vocabulary and spice it all up with your special tags for people...Ice Queen, Pod Person, Stepford Wife (Rosalena gets most of it) and "male version of ClingWrap" (the revolting Marcial).

Also loved your suggestion that Rodrigo try yoga, though I can't think of anyone less apt to engage in that discipline.

Actually, I love the scenes of Rodgrigo working out (not just because of his awesome pecs and deltoids) but because that is exactly how someone of his personality type would deal with stress. I don't have the muscles but that's how I deal with stress as well--with exhausting physical activity.

Of course it doesn't help him process his conflicting emotions and I guess we're going to see him angry, dazed and confused for months. So it goes in these fascinating but also irritating telenovelas.

Happy to get in line with y'all to slap Milquetoast Mati. She refuses to clear up a vital mystery by whining that Destiny will eventually take care of it. If Rosalena is über-controlling, her counterpart Mati is undercontrolling. She needs to do something else besides wringing her hands and going "oh dear..."

Still, her unmasking of Frigida and the use of a radio to make the conversation hard to hear last night was like an old-time spy maneuver. A fun scene.

Thanks again Vivi...you really get these recaps up fast!

  15. Decie Girl- Yes, I see a growing jealousy on Rod's part for how well Luci and Pato get along. I don't feel bad for him at all.

Urban- ITA about Rosa wanting to control all her kids and wanting their love to be exclusively for her. Probably because he's her first born, Rod gets the brunt of it.

Daisynjay- Isn't it amazing the way Paz's spine gets rod straight when she gets determined about protecting one of her cubs? She looked like a soldier marching towards the entrance of Casa Torreslanda.

Diana- I think GS's highligts are there, we just can't see them when they slick his hair back so much. It looks so much better when they let the top part of his hair with the highlights loose. Surely, the hair/makeup people can see the difference. Oh well!

Daisynjay and Gretchen- I also want to see Luci become very successful in something once she has her diploma in hand. I remember when she looked in that book of ceramic art before she got savaged by the b/witches, and dreamed of her pieces being so beautiful and well known some day. She's always drawing designs for ceramics in her book. She could become a serious artist. Or Claudio might take her under his wing-- by rights, part of Empresas Torreslanda is his and Luci's. She caught on really quickly when she was helping Pato with his work. I also like the idea of her becoming a therapist, because she was also very good at doing that. She also seems to like to teach, and was Ariche's main tutor back in Het Het-- helping him with his homework and his flute lessons. There are so many options, but some of them wouldn't work without a time jump. We'll see.

  16. Thanks Judy! I can't wait to start reading your take on these characters when you join our recapping team next week. I have so missed your recaps. I'm sure you will come up with wonderful nicknames for these characters and offer some unique insight.

"If Rosalena is über-controlling, her counterpart Mati is undercontrolling." How very true Judy.

  17. Great recap and Mati is dead to me.

It appears that the law of the Novela will once again be established: when a character says they are going to tell all (1) it ain't gonna' happen (2) it will take that character a minimum of 100 Capitulos to do so.

Mati's gonna' tell, Connie's gonna' tell, Padre Honesto's gonna' tell, Paz's gonna' tell, so far, squat. Whatever crazy mommie tells to Paz is gonna' be such a bright, shinning lie that Paz will buy it hook, line, and sinker. Probably that crap about Luci being Max's daughter.

    Rufugio can be infuriating.

  18. LOL Anon! This is the maddening way with telenovelas. So far many of them have told someone, just not Claudio, Luci, or the police. Padre told the Bishop, Mati told Estella, Mati/Connie/Rosa told Max, and Paz told Magda. Sooner or later one of these people will spill it to Luci and/or Claudio.

  19. always love pato & luci scenes;writers, more please!

one thing (of the many things) that I can't stand about rosa is that no matter if every single person is screaming the truth in her face until they're blue she will NEVER see what she doesn't want to see. just wanna shake her & tell her to snap out of it, but she'll always think she's in the right.

couldn't tell you yesterday vivi, loved how you you recapped the dinner scene monday night, very funny. and of course great recap today as well!

  20. Classic TN-style foreshadowing, but it drives me crazy! We know when a character goes on and on about what they are gonna do, they end up not doing it. Just like Rod with all his loud, lofty promises. So, I can't put much hope in Paz's declarations of how she's going to put Rosa in her place AND reveal her past misdeeds, AND tell Claudio that Luci is his daughter. Something is going to stop all of that. Continual bait and switch from the writers.

Appreciate all the detailed recaps Vivi, and great comments too!

  21. Vivi, I'm with you! I'm also thrilled that Judy will be recapping again, joining this marvelous group of recappers. The dedication and talent of the Caray recappers is beyond compare.

So many voices with such interesting perspectives and opinions. I'm so happy to be part of such a wonderful group. I appreciate all of the recappers and commenters for sharing their thoughts, insights and humor.

  22. While I hope Paz just lets her have I think Rosa screaming that Luci will hate for the deception will ultimately stop Paz. In talks with Magda she often feared losing the girl when she found out the truth. I wish she would just tell Rosa to go to hell and do it but too much TN experience tells me the uberbitch will cow her.

Rosa for all her craziness is slick. She has covered her bases pretty well. Mati and Conny are guilted into saying nothing, the good Padre could still tell Claudio that Luci is his daughter but he can not tell him about the grave desecration. After Rosa told the Padre about the baby switch and he told her he would tell, she reminded him about the seal of confession only to be told she hadn't been confessing when she told him so sly Rosa fixed that error and said she wanted to confess to him before she told her latest infamy.

As much as I detest the snoop sisters I'm waiting to see how long it will be before they use what they discovered to force Rosa to help Gagme get Rod back. I'm also very curious to see how she will go about it since he wants nothing to do with her. Oh right it is a TN she'll probably fake heart problems.

We often wonder how much time goes by and last night Dr. J commented to Rod that it had been one month from the time of the marriage to the time of the divorce. Odd considering how many full moons we'd seen. LOL

I think I remember Luci saying she wanted to be a teacher but she is sharp and if Claudio gets his hands on the TL legitimate business i could see her in a management position and dressed in a more sophisticated way at least until the pregnancy gets too advanced.

I'm wondering if Magda and Paz are going to get back to the barrio while Vee and Marcel's wife are in a gigantic cat figh.

I do wish Aldo and Rod would use a razor. What is it with novelas that there is always at least one or two scruffy dudes and one is usually the galan. I wouldn't let anybody near my sensitive skin with all that facial hair. We use to joke that Televisa must be low on their budget for razors.

  23. Decie Girl, love your name for Gagme and her mama, snoop sisters, lol.

Judy B- so glad you will be doing recaps with us. It's good to have you back. Always loved your recaps.

jlk- I don't think even if we slapped Rosa a good one she would snap out of it. The synapses in her brain are not firing on all cylinders. She needs a manicomio like yesterday. Meds would do a world of good for her, jus' sayin'.

  24. I've not been following this novela or the recaps consistently lately but I am trying to catch up. Where did the name "Het Het" come from?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey Pepe- Melinama, our Blog Mom, was one of the original recappers on this tn in the first weeks. She says that Het is Yiddish for the boonies/way out. Because San Francisco el Alto, Luci's town, seemed even more remote than that, she dubbed it Het Het (way WAY out). The name stuck. Plus, it's easier to write. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Pepe- One of our commentors also spoke about the real town where this story is filmed and said the only way in or out is via a tunnel-- we saw our heroine have to walk through this long, dark tunnel when she first left for D.F. Apparently, it was an old minin town. It has a very remote feel, but also a stark beauty.

  27. Vivi - fine recap.

Beats me how Rod can be so mad at both his mom and Luci at the same time. His mom only succeeded in breaking them up because he let her.

I sure hope Paz doesn't fold, but I'm wondering if Rosa has an ace up her sleeve.

  28. Thank you for a great recap Vivi.

I think that just about everyone has said it all--well almost. Has anyone noticed how cute Ariche and Marianita are together?

  29. I'm wondering why Rosa is so anxious to see Gala. She never really liked the woman before they formed the pack from hell. She doesn't yet know that Hurricane Paz in about to hit. I guess she suddenly wants to throw the woman at Rod to make sure he is distracted from the Love of his life.

In a lot of ways Rosa is as thick as a brick. She told Max and Conny that she had told Claudio the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and neither of them believe her. They rightly told her if she had Claudio would have descended on them all with revenge in his mind, yet somehow she thinks if she had told him about Luci he would just peacefully ignore it. I guess when you are as coldhearted a parent as she is she just assumes eo is everyone else. Can not wait until he finds out what a witch she is.

  30. Gringo- The two kids are adorable together. I like the way they bonded.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Niecie- "His mom only succeeded in breaking them up because he let her." Yep. Pato said exactly this to Rod last episode. I don't get how he can be both mad at Rosa and Luci either. The guy is just mixed up emotionally.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love that Paz is stepping up and confronting Rosa sicne Connie is too worried about her mental health. It just seems awfully early to reveal a truth like this. Hang in there Paz!

I'd like to Luci become a famous ceramics artist. Then open a business selling her ceramics. Then expand the business and become world famous. Then tell Gala and her mooching mother Juli to suck it. Mostly that last part.
