Just as we had fun
with recasting classic TV shows (We'll do that again if everyone
wants to) here we will do classic movies. Same rules apply:
- Pick a classic movie, any genre. Title translation optional.
- Give your dream cast for the Televisa Remake you would produce. Actors currently under contract to Telemundo are also invited to the casting call. Although most or all character names would be changed into Spanish ones, use the original character names for clarity.
- Make note of any minor changes to setting, character relationships, etc.
- Comment on any previously posted project.
- New projects should occur at least every third post, but more frequently is good, too!
A lot of US blockbusters have enjoyed
international success, so I will launch with one we all know and most
of us love. Since the dialogue is already in keeping with novela melodrama, direct translation may be all we need so we can put more dinero into sets, props, costumes, jewelry, and SFX. I'm sure Cecil B. DeMille would approve of this cast for the Televisa remake of his last film, The Ten Commandments. Herewith we present the cast for Los Dies Mandamientos:
Narrator......... Enrique Rocha
Rameses I......... Guillermo Garcia Cantú
Sethi.......... Otto Sirgo
Bithia......... Adele Noriega (early scenes) / Helena Rojo (later scenes)
Yochabel..... Nora
Salinas (early scenes) / Alma Muriel (later scenes)
High Priest...... Rene
Casados
Moses............... Jorge Salinas
Rameses II......... Manuel
Landeta
Nefretiri....... Edith Gonzales
Dathan.......... Julian Gil
Bahka........... Jorge Aravena
Memnet..... Lucía
Guilmáin
Old Man in Mud Pit José
Carlos Ruiz
Jethro............. Eric del Castillo
Sephora............ Sylvia Navarro
Voice
of God............ César
Evora
Pentaur............... Gerardo Murguía
Rameses' Son...... Juan
Bernardo Flores
Ethiopian King.... Rudy
Casanova
Princess Tharbis... Indhira
Serrano
Aaron........... Alejandro Avila
Miriam......... Jacqueline Bracamontes
Lilia....... Ana Brenda Contreras or Livia Brito
Joshua..... . Gabriel Soto or Jorge de Silva
I'll definitely vote for César Evora as the Voice of God. My memories of the Ten Commandments have faded over the years, so can't be reliable on the others. Isn't there some suave bad guy that Sergio Sendel can play?
ReplyDeleteLa Paloma
Ron Jose is perfect for Joshua he looks just like John Derek, I mean separated at birth!
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who would like to watch Cecil B's masterpiece dubbed in Spanish, it's here in its entirety. Picture is pretty good; enlarge to the larger player but doesn't hold up to full computer screen.
ReplyDeleteLa Paloma, I couldn't think of a role for Sergio; the listed villains were a little too slimy for him (but not slimy enough for Roberto Ballesteros)!
How about a morally ambiguous character for Sergio? The literary James Bond, for instance?
ReplyDeleteUA, I *love* Landeta as Ramses and Avila as Aaron -- brilliant!
ReplyDeleteEmarie, ITA with Ron Jose as Joshua!! He's great with that young righteous indignation! I'm just not seeing Gabriel there...
ReplyDeleteI'm still relatively new to tns so don't recognize a lot of the actors names yet, but Cesar Evora IS the voice of God, and I can totally visualize Jacqueline B as Miriam (I'm currently catching up on reruns of Tontas). Rene, of course, must be a priest.
Love this game!
AnotherAmy
ITA with CE as "the voice of God".
ReplyDeleteWho else is a fan of period costume drama? There have been many incarnations of this one, both in the correct period clothing and in modern dress. This cast should be wearing the appropriate 18th-C clothes, wigs, and jewelry:
ReplyDeleteDangerous Liaisons (1988)
Marquise de Merteuil -- Edith Gonzales
Vicomte de Valmont -- Lisardo Guarinos
Cécile de Volanges -- Zuria Vega
Madame de Volanges -- Diana Bracho or Leticia Calderón
Madame de Tourvel -- Angelique Boyer
Danceny -- Sebastian Zurita
Madame de Rosemonde -- Raquel Olmedo
How about Casablanca? Don't even have to change the name...
ReplyDeleteRick: Sebastian Rulli
Ilsa: Ludwika Paleta
Lazlo: Mark Tacher
Louie: Rene Casados
I could see Sebastian Rulli. Clean-shaven and with the right clothes...
ReplyDeleteWho started GWTW last time?
Wonderful Wizard of Oz, with or without the musical numbers depending on how well some of these people can sing:
ReplyDeleteWizard - Cesar Evora OR Sergio Sendel.
Dorothy - Adela Noriega (since age is clearly never an issue for Televisa I see no reason why a grown woman shouldn't play a little girl as long as she's good at crying)
Glenda - Lucero
Scarecrow - Marcelo Cordoba
Tin Man - Ernesto Laguardia
Lion - Sergio Goyri. As I recall, in STuD he was able to portray both great pride and great humility.
Wicked Witch - Good luck casting this role. There's no shortage of women who would be perfect for it and have a lot of fun doing it. The difficulty would be settling for just one. Maybe she should be a shape-shifting Wicked Witch played by five different women.
Auntie Em - Ana Martin
Uncle Henry - Bleh. Whoever. I never liked Uncle Henry.
I LOVE the shape-shifting witch!
ReplyDeleteMy choice for the witch would be Blanca Guerra. She has exactly the right look because remember she is also Miss Gulch.
ReplyDeleteHowever, my lion would be Sergio Sendel.
Heh, UA, Sergio Sendel would make a great lion - but I would have cast him in ALL of the roles if I could get away with it! Alas, I'm overcompensating and trying to be more attentive to other actors out of fairness.
ReplyDeleteWe could making Sergio S the scarecrow just to give him more screen time. Alternatively, we could introduce the Lion before the Scarecrow!
I was just wondering whether he can dance, which is a requirement for the Scarecrow.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. Sergio can definitely dance.
ReplyDeleteThis is fun, especially since I'm age-blind like Televisa.
ReplyDeleteThe Godfather (1972)
Don Corleone - ?
Michael - Marcelo Cordoba
Sonny - Eduardo Yanez
Fredo - Guillermo Capetillo
Tom Hagen - David Zepeda
Kay - Adela Noriega
Connie - Angelique Boyer
Carlo - Aaron Diaz
Johnny Fontaine - Pablo Montero
Barzini - Sergio Sendel
Cesar Evora for Don Vito and Helena Rojo for Mama Corleone.
ReplyDeleteBut I thought Guy Ecker for Tom Hagen who is not Italian-born and doesn't look Italian.
You did a better pick on Sonny than I did; Eduardo Yanez it is. We agree on Michael, Connie, and Johnny Fontane. Other characters:
Fredo -- Juan Pablo Gamboa
Kay Adams -- Sylvia Navarro
Clemenza -- Roberto Ballesteros
Tessio -- Gustavo Rojo
Luca Brasi -- Salvador Zerboni
Tattaglia -- Ricardo Dalmacci
Capt McCluskey ???
Moe Green -- Richard Kleinbaum
Jack Woltz -- Juan Ferrara
Appollonia -- Ana Brenda Contreras
Fabrizio -- Fabian Robles
Don Tommasino -- Roberto Blandón
Amerigo Buonasera -- Germán Gutiérrez
These are great so far! I love your "theme" threads, UA!
ReplyDeleteI think it was me who did Gone With The Wind last time. If memory serves, my casting was:
Scarlett O'Hara: Angelique Boyer
Rhett Butler: Jorge Salinas (por supuesto!)
Ashley Wilkes: Sebastian Rulli (clean-shaven)
Melanie Wilkes: Ana Brenda Contreras (or Adela Noriega)
I know that many of these names are swiped from "Teresa," but a lot of us saw many parallels to GTWT and "Teresa."
And UA, I love the casting of Jorge Salinas as Moses! (Por supuesto!)
Yes, Guy Ecker would have the right outsider look as Tom Hagen. I like it.
ReplyDeleteElvira, there definitely were comparisons to be made between Teresa and Scarlett. No doubt they had a lot of the same motivations.
ReplyDeleteHow about Rosemary's Baby:
ReplyDeleteRosemary................... Ingrid Martz
Guy............................ Aaron Diaz
Minnie Castevet........ Diana Bracho
Roman Castevet........ Enrique Rocha
Dr Sapirstein............. Otto Sirgo
Edward Hutchins....... Eric del Castillo
Elise........................... Ludwika Paleta
Dr Hill........................ Eugenio Siller
Grace.......................... Luz Maria Jerez
Minnie's friends (partial list):
Laura Flores
Lucia Guilmain
Lucy Martinez
UA, I really meant to say Chinatown, not Casablanca. What better movie conversion to novela actors. I'm working on my cast, details to follow!
ReplyDeleteChinatown
ReplyDeleteJ. J. Gettis ----Jorge Salinas
Evelyn Cross Mulray - Daniela Castro
Noah Cross - Sergio Goyri
Escobar - Francisco Gattorno
Hollis Mulray---Mauricio Islas
Ida Sessions -- Eugenia Cauduro
Detective Loach --Oscar Bonfiglio
Katherine Cross - Genesis Rodriguez
What a fun idea UA!
Urban Anthropologist
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming up with your creative weekend threads. It makes the weekend without the novela go much faster.
I'm a newbie and this is my first post. I did not realiize how important the comments are to the recappers until my page malfunctioned and I opened Paula's post about the love and care for the recappers.
Please know that you and all of the recappers are greatly appreciated.
