104.2: Estos Celos Tienan Consecuencias.
Behind
the Curtain: Susanito stops the fight, Maria slaps the flowers
back into Oscar's hands. She makes the faux pas of telling Jorge
Alfredo that they are separated which pleases Oscar. She leaves the
stage, angry with both of them. Oscar further insults Jorge Alfredo
by giving them to him as a “consolation prize.” This almost
kicks-starts another fight as the curtain comes back up. They
quickly separate and face the audience. Fernando becomes annoyed with Oscar. The other guys leave the
stage and Oscar sensibly starts throwing individual flowers to the
female patrons.
Office: A nervous Siete Mares enters the office to find an annoyed Mirna, then
leaves when he doesn't know what to say.
Crescent
Moon (for a change) over Plaza Garibaldi
Maria's
Dressing Room: Jorge Alfredo enters; both are now out of
uniform. He apologises for losing control and tells her she was
right. She tells him the song was just to get his attention, reminds
him of the risks he was taking. His differences over her with Oscar aren't worth the risk of arrest. She doesn't need to see proof of his
innocence to believe him, but he needs to remember that the
authorities do.
JNTR
Club Room: Fernando is facing the possibility of losing Ana to
Siete Mares. She walks out with the latter, leaving Fernando to
ponder the situation.
Maria's
Dressing Room: She is clearly getting stressed from all this.
She would prefer not to see him if he keeps putting himself at risk.
Irasema's
Room (intercut with shots of Irasema crying in her cell):
Susanito finds the note. “I say goodbye to you even though it
hurts me, but it's better this way. My past has condemned me and I don't want you to suffer
for it. Thank you for giving me what nobody else ever did: Love and
respect. I tried to fly far from it but discovered that women like
me will always meet defeat. We could not fly despite how much we
love. But I love you. I love you, my Susanito.”
The
Following Morning
Mendoza
Apartment: Amalia tries laying on the guilt again when Maria
tells her that if necessary she will go into hiding with Jorge
Alfredo. He has changed his life for her and she is willing to do
the same. After all, to live without love is the worst of all hells.
Fernando's
Apartment: Jorge Alfredo tells Fernando he is tired of these
risks. He wants to go into hiding until his innocence is proven.
Fernando questions this decision even after Jorge Alfredo tells him
Maria wants to accompany him. He loves Maria like a sister and is
thinking of how difficult it would be for her to be separated from
her family in a country not hers [while we flies on the wall think that might be a good
thing for her].
Mendoza
Apartment: Maria hands a cup of coffee to Susanito, who has come
to speak of his troubles. She tells him to look for Irasema.
Fernando's
Apartment: Jorge Alfredo asks him about Ana, which he is not
willing to talk about. Jorge Alfredo tells him to decide what he
wants and do it, then exits with a small taunt about Siete Mares. Fernando charges out after him.
Ana's
Apartment: Siete Mares has escorted her back, but doesn't stay
for breakfast. We're not sure whether she is actually interested in
him or whether she is using him to make Fernando jealous.
Sanchez
Apartment: Susanito returns, note in hand. He hands it to
Mancia, who is convinced that this is for his good. She goes on
about how soon he will find a decent girl to love. He suspects her
of having something to do with this. She swears not and he replies
“For the good of our relationship that's what I hope.”
The Next Day
Mendoza
Apartment: A pounding on the door as Amalia and Maria straighten
up the apartment turns out to be Don Braulio with a couple of other
men. He instructs them to begin removing everything in the
apartment. Maria knows her rights; she's a law student. He doesn't
give a flying damn. Amalia begins to get pains in her shoulder and –
right on time – flashbacks to the last time she had those pains.
She then asks Maria if she remembers finding her on the floor. When
Maria says yes, she describes what happened and openly accuses Don
Braulio of attempted rape.
Capitulo
105: Crime, but no Punishment
Mendoza
Apartment: Maria then says that he has committed a crime, Don
Braulio starts denying it, but Amalia has found enough courage to
confront him. She forces him to face the Virgen and swear he didn't
do it. He looks intimidated.
Sanchez
Apartment: Three other men are removing Mancia's furniture as
she gets hysterical.
Mendoza
Apartment: Maria is about to attack Don Braulio as Jorge Alfredo
and Susanito arrive. She tells them what Braulio did. He starts
denying it. Susanito gets on his case about the removal of his
mother's furniture and everyone else's in the neighborhood. Jorge
Alfredo grabs the file folder and looks inside.
Fountain
in Public Square: Fernando talks to the mariachi kid and Isabel
arrives, happy that she's passed her math exam. Fernando introduces
them and it looks like puppy love is blooming.
Mendoza
Apartment: Jorge Alfredo wants to give this creep a good
thrashing, but is restrained by Susanito, who tells Maria to call the
police. He then asks Braulio if he knows what happens to guys like
him in prison. He gets scared and begs them not to call the police.
He will sign papers and agree to not bother them again. Jorge
Alfredo isn't buying this. The corrupt young lawyer watches carefully.
Street
Near School: Rodrigo approaches Paloma who whips out the photo
and demands an explanation. Right on cue, Vanessa and her budding
henchwoman show up.
Fountain:
Mariachi kid starts singing, which impresses Isabel. He's from
Guadalajara.
Street
Near School: Is Vanessa related to Elvira? She plays the same
game and Rodrigo – being more like Jorge Alfredo than Oscar –
doesn't tell her off as she deserves to. However, he doesn't tell
her strongly enough that he is not attracted to her.
Street
near Barrio: Ruben is gloating prematurely about coming to the
rescue when Maria is thrown out into the street. Fernando comes
along, possibly having overheard some of this.
Federal
Prison in El Lay: Mike talksn with the prisoner whose teeth he
fixed that he needs help in getting info about El Padrino. He's
hoping to prove his innocence and get out. The other guy says
something about Wendy, but Mike doesn't want her to know anything
about it. Right on cue, she arrives. She seems to be pleased that
he declared his feelings for her. [We'll see about that.]
Office
(in previously unseen building): Justo leaves a message over the phone about an urgent conversation, then
is told by his secretary that a Don Vittoriano awaits without. He
cautiously tells her to let him in. He enters in his perfect Mafia
Chic wanting to talk business. He's interested in the possibility of importing foods from Latin America. [Methinks Manuel Ojeda is enjoying this role.]
Federal
Prison: Wendy is giving Mike a chance at her... provided he lets
her help in the office. [In a men's prison? What is she, nuts?]
He's too pleased to have thought of this because he hugs her.
Street:
Fernando is surprised to see Ruben out of his element. While
holding the kids protectively at either side he point-blank asks
whether Ruben is there to bother Maria. Not satisfied with his
non-answer he tells him to split. Just as this is about to explode
into an argument Mancia enters and asks for Fernando's help. She
tells him they're being thrown out into the street. He follows her,
taking the kids with him. Fabian makes a comment about Maria. Ruben
looks at his watch, saying something about everything happening in
its own time. He gloats again.
Mendoza
Apartment: Braulio signs the “agreement” and Maria dismisses
the movers and the well-dressed young lawyer, with Amalia “apologising” for
their time being wasted. Fernando arrives during all this telling
Jorge Alfredo that he has suspicions. He then follows the men out,
leaving the kids with Amalia and Maria.
JNTR
Barrrom: Mirna is telling Elvira that she has to keep an eye on
the booze because Pinchi is too generous with it when he makes
drinks. Elvira doesn't look the least bit interested but says she
will be strict about this. This leads to more insults toward Maria,
but Mirna tells her that business is business. Meanwhile, Homerito
and Pinchi observe these two female dogs, with Homerito describing it
as a coven of witches. Elvira tells Mirna that effective tonight
everything changes. She plans to put Jorge Alfredo on one balcony,
Oscar on the other, and Maria (este “cantantucha”) on center
stage. Mirna doesn't think this will work but Elvira tells her she
will like this.
Street
Near School: Paloma runs away from Rodrigo. Same old
I-don't-believe-you, same old breakup.
Street
Near Barrio: Braulio tries to explain to Ruben what happened and
the cannibal is not pleased. They exchange words about their
previous deal in which Ruben believed he bought the buildings from him. Braulio, however, tells him he can't prove it and walks away from this. Fabian
comments about Maria being lucky -- "or possibly more intelligent than you" -- and Ruben slugs him. Fernando sees
this from a doorway and we wonder how much of this conversation he
heard. Both crooked sharks exit in different directions, but
Fernando follows Ruben.
Street,
Elsewhere: Ana and Siete Mares sit around and talk. He seems
interested in her, but she is still hung up on Fernando.
Oscar's
Apartment: Rodrigo comes home, despondent. Oscar tells him to
set the table while he goes to buy something to eat. Roddy wants to
talk but Oscar tells him "later" because he has something important to do. He exits
while Roddy sits down and cries.
Street:
Ana has told Siete Mares the story we never heard about her
broken heart and that she never
thought she'd love again until she met Fernando. Unfortunately,
Fernando stops dead at the sight of the two of them.
Mendoza
Apartment: We find out that Fernando is going to get the boy into school and that the Mariachi Kid lives on the streets. Maria and
Jorge Alfredo look at each other. [What are they thinking?]
JNTR:
Elvira smears grease at the foot of the stage.
Mendoza
Apartment: Jorge Alfredo prepares a math lesson for Isabel.
Maria shows him the blue baby things.
JNTR:
Elvira continues to smear that crap on the stage floor.
Mendoza
Apartment: Jorge Alfredo talks about how girls also look good in
blue and he can't wait to hold his child. He goes on about how he once never imagined he would have children because he had other priorities
before now. Loving Maria has changed him and he is grateful. Besos.
JNTR:
Elvira makes a cleaner job of her dirty work.
Evening
JNTR:
Concho greets the audience, saying there is a surprise prepared
by his “joy and pride”, then exits the stage. The musicians
play, Oscar appears on one balcony, Jorge Alfredo on the other.
[Music is familiar, but the lyrics are customized to their
rivalry and are meant to sound improvised] They are having their usual differences. They start down the stairs and when they meet they glare at each other. Concho stops
the music before anything else can happen and the two guys retreat to their corners per his orders.
Mendoza
Apartment: Paloma cries about her issues with Roddy. Amalia
asks her if she's sure about Roddy being unfaithful and she says “I
saw them embracing” and continues to cry.
Oscar's
Apartment: Flashbacks to better times for Roddy as he cries.
JNTR:
Concho introduces Maria, who enters in her gorgeous red dress. They
sing “Sabes Una Cosa”. Audience applauds the song. Maria steps
out to the foot of the stage, slips, lands on the back of a chair,
and falls.
Mendoza Apartment: Amalia gets a pain in the chest and knows this means nothing good.
JNTR: Elvira grins as Maria falls in pain.
Avances
Elvira says that this is only the beginning; the doctors have no good news.

Lyrics:
“Sabes
Una Cosa”
Sabes

The avances seem to imply that Maria is going to have a near-death experience. Ay, Dios mio!
ReplyDeleteThank you, UA!!!
ReplyDeleteElvirus is a Tramp. That's all I can think of at this hour of the night.
Fatima
Thanks Urban!
ReplyDeleteSo, instead of a miscarriage staircase we get a miscarriage stage?
Elvirus needs to DIE! DIE! DIE! Where's an anvil when you need it?
And I think Mirna savvied something is up, doest that makes her an accomplice?
Will she feels the gravity of the deed and at least traces of remorse??
Remorse is not in Elvira's repertoire of emotions and based on Mirna's facial expression last night I doubt she is capable of it.
ReplyDeleteMirna is all about preventing Maria from ever finding out that Concho stole her family's rightful share of the bar. Of the Mendozas, only Maria stands a chance of finding this out.
Elvira doesn't know this or she would have told her mother ages ago.
Jorge Alfredo will be the next target because he has even greater potential for finding this out.
Elvira's motive will be revenge for rejecting her.
But why didn't Concho fall down?
ReplyDeleteI think the grease was put on the front edge only of the outer ring and Concho exited at the right side of the stage.
ReplyDeleteBTW, it also occurred to me that not being the sole owner of the bar invalidates Concho's deal with Ruben.
Elvira just doesn't get it:
ReplyDeleteMaria & Jorge Alfredo are the geese that lay the golden eggs.
Elvira wants to kill the geese, not knowing or caring that the geese laying their eggs are what's financing her lifestyle. The reason "Daddy" can give her whatever she wants is because of Maria & Jorge Alfredo bringing crowds into the bar (it sure wasn't Oscar & the Mariachi Gang since Concho was about to fire half of them).
No Perla Tapatia / Vargas = no crowds
No crowds = no money
No money = Concho Financial Distress
Concho Financial Distress = Elvira having to work as a mesera at Concho's bar
Paloma is stuck on stupid like her sister because she doesn't want to LISTEN or THINK (although she did have a good point about Rod not telling her about Vanessa kissing him).
She believes Vanessa & Cindy over Rod, so she doesn't need to be with Rod.
Isa has a little mariachi of her own. Looks like Jorge Alfredo will be adopting another kid (unless Fernando adopts him first).
Someone will have to adopt that boy.
ReplyDeleteElvira isn't as smart as she thinks she is. Her resentment of Maria and "humiliation" by Jorge Alfredo is her overriding motive for everything she will do in the rest of this series. Even Mirna told her that "business is business" but she isn't listening.
I thought Elvirus smeared wax on the stage edge but grease is good. Can't believe we are going to have a near death experience over a three step fall - eyes rolling.
ReplyDeleteEverything annoying about Amelia was out front last night. Once AGAIN she is on Maria about JAntos. Maria tells her JA changed her whole life for her and now she will change hers for him. Amelia wants to know what changes he made. Good Lord the woman is dense. She just never gives up. I'm so sick of her. Interesting too that when Paloma has a Mendoza Meltdown the first thing Mama wants to know is is she sure he was unfaithful. She never ever gives JA the benefit of the doubt.
I'm not sure Ana is using Siete Mares but he is handy for her to vent with. The other wenches are gone and Maria has her own issues.
Oscar is a self absorbed jerk. His son comes in obviously upset and needing to talk to him and what does he do? Blows him off because he has something important to do — like what? Stalk Maria, plan another fight. Roddy should just go to JAntos or Fernando both of who are much better father figures than Oscar will ever be,
No honor among thieves Rub punching out Fabnot. We really should have had a drinking game over the number of fights. Unreal and so trite. Wonder where Fabnot stashed Irasema. Surely it wasn't the strip club again.
It's either the back of the strip club or some dive bar like CdO.
ReplyDeleteNeither of those two sharks know that JA currently resides there. However, if they find out he should haul ass out of there and contact his dad for some cash so he can stay somewhere else.
As to Amalia's denseness, she sees only what she wants to see. She doesn't want to lose Maria (her meal ticket) and doesn't want any competition for Maria's love, as if that was something quantifiable.
She may also have issues with the idea of Maria as a sexual being, which she would have to be to have the attentions of someone like JA.
One more thought about Oscar: He is lacking experience as a father. We don't know what his own father was like or whether he has any brothers or sisters. He seems to have loved his mother. It's possible that she was a young widow during Oscar's youth.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that JA and Fernando would be far better sounding boards for Roddy's current problem. JA the better of the two because he's been a victim of the same shenanigans.
I've been thinking about the Maria/Amelia dynamic. We know that Pedro died 10 years ago, Paloma is 15 so would have been 5 while Maria was probably 13 or 14. We also know that Concho fed Amelia lies about Pedro faithfulness, however we don't know if he did it before Pedro died or after. I'm thinking after. Paloma and Maria idolized Pedro and I think that is why the suit shrine came into being not because Amelia cared.
ReplyDeleteAmelia was obviously embittered about Pedro faithfulness and consciously or unconsciously that colored how she raised her girls. Maria would just have started being interested in boys when Amelia came to believe Pedro was a lying snake. She raised the girls to be a solid family unit, just them and her, no men allowed. Maria has had plenty of exposure to men via the mariachi's but always as brother figures never romantic ones. JAntos arriving on the scene has thrown the dynamic off as far as Amelia is concerned and is ruining the safe life she has built.
Interesting about Oscar and his father. All of the mariachi boys except Fernando appear to be fatherless or never mention them. Fernando is very bitter about his father taking the Death Train to El Norte in pursuit of the American dream and leaving him to fend for himself on the street. Nevertheless he is concerned for little children and offers them a father figure much like JAntos does and who did have a solid father figure in his life.
I think in a very early episode one of those guys mentioned his parents being alive and him wanting to take care of them well; they just don't live in the area.
ReplyDeleteOr was that Bartono, who went back to the country?
What is also statistically off is that all the mariachis are single. The odds would not usually favor that. It does, however, explain the frat boy behavior.
Makes me think that they're all supposed to be paired up at the end of the series. There are 50+ episodes left to accomplish that in.
Let's be realistic, we can't take 50 more episodes of Maria breaking up with and then weeping over Santos anymore than I could handle Paloma walking the same path so there have to be some secondary love stories to fill in the gaps.
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking that I hope nothing happens to that baby as JAntos will find away to believe it was his fault. He already thinks he is cursed and has caused all the problems for his family. And for what it is worth i'm glad the Virus had our battleing cocks on opposite sides of the room and off the stage so Amelia can't blame JAntos for doing something that caused the fall.
Possible pairings:
ReplyDeleteOscar with ????
Fernando with Ana
Aventurero with Lety
Seven Seas with Mirna
I don't know who the other random mariachis are so I don't care.
Wendy with Michael
Susanito with Irasema
Both Mancia & Amalia have made googly eyes at Justo. Justo would never get with someone like Mancia & God help him if he ever got with Amalia.
Sonador with Elvira (pobrecito)
ReplyDeleteAnon
ReplyDeleteThe Mirna/Siete Mares is an interesting thought. When he first walked into JNTR he reacted to her as if he had known her in the past. She just cut him off. It sorta of happened the other day as well. She reminds him of someone. He may be an alcoholic but he is too good for her.
Virus/Sonador Nope can't see that either. I actually see prison in Elvira's future. Se is a thief and this stunt with Maria leads me to think she will go further and really step over the edge. Frankly she is such a beyoch I don't want her to be happy.
I agree. What Elvira just did can amount to attempted murder.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say this earlier, but the most likely way for Maria to have fallen would have been on her butt, which may have bruised the coccyx but not have caused the medical crisis we will see tonight. Putting the two guys on the balconies guaranteed that neither of them would be able to prevent the fall.
Someone will have to figure this out. I wouldn't mind if that someone was Concho, but he is still looking at his pwecious daughter through rose-colored glasses. Nobody has had the cojones to tell him about her earlier shenanigans, which is why they're going to get worse.
