I've been keeping up on the recaps- so thank you!- but haven't been able to watch between stuff going on and my inability to stay up. Getting old.

But I really don't get Mine. Sure, Cihan is fine and all, but she knows Sadakat! She knows that she dodged a bullet by not having to live with the Albora. A LITERAL bullet! She needs to go back to Istanbul, STAT.

But the same kinds goes for Pakize. She's old enough to know that getting stuck with this family- and especially Sakin- is a terrible, terrible idea. Even Kadir is too close. She should go with Mine to Istanbul and find someone not connected at all with this town.

I did like the comment (Maggie?) about that jail cell looking like a dorm. Except it's nicer and has much better food thank most dorms. Maybe they should just give the guys a whole bunch of pillows and let them sort out their problems with an old-fashioned pillow fight. It's save the jail on their bandaid budget.

Cihan should have saved his henchman budget to go after his mother. That would solve everyone's problems.

I’ve never had a TN follow me around all day like this one does. I’m fascinated by it, but I also find it disturbing. As is usual, in this one the characters are types, not fully developed 3-D human beings. Also, unlike so many TNs I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like the writers phoned it in, but rather it has a careful purposefulness to it. This is the story that the writers and director wanted to tell and they wanted to tell it in this way. It’s a good example of its genre. I try to bear that in mind but I just can’t help myself.

What bothers me is that Cihan is represented as the only hero here. Yes, he’s doing his very best to handle a lot of volatile people and to try to prevent their doing any more damage, or actually killing one another. He has a huge load on him and is doing very well with it. Kudos to him.

However I’m thinking about Ayla. I’ve suffered the losses she has. My husband didn’t get killed in an “accident”, but it was only a number of weeks between him noticing something was wrong and him dead from a brain tumor. He had been so robust.

I’ve also lost an entire life that I loved, like Ayla lost her life in Canada. (If you’re curious, read this, if not, go onto the next paragraph.) I lived for a number of years in Germany. I was perdidamente enamorada de Europa and intended to live there the rest of my life. I also had a wonderful man who I was thinking of marrying. But suddenly there was a recession and Germany pulled the work permits for foreign workers. My fellow wanted to return to Melbourne; I was not enthused, but wanted to give it a try to see if I could settle there with him. We talked to the Australian consulate in Munich – they said it should be fine. As a farewell to Europe we spent the next 2 months touring around in our VW van. I spent almost all my money, but I did have plane fare. I had secured a job in Melbourne and I wouldn’t need a car because they had public transportation. When we arrived at the embassy in Bonn we found out Australia had closed too because of the recession. The upshot was me flying back to Los Angeles and my fellow flying to Melbourne. I had lost it all: the place I loved living, the friends, the good times, the whole future I had planned, and the fellow was far far away. I was absolutely desolate, and broke. Too, I had no car.

These two crushing losses happened many decades apart. Alya has gone through both at once. Her strength and composure are nothing short of astonishing. And on top of that, her mother-in-law tried to kill her (and still would like to) and is trying to steal her son from her and turn him into a hardened tribal chief. Oh, and her professional life has been sabotaged. Another thing: She is basically a hostage.

Her role seems to be intended as damsel in distress, with a modern twist that she’s a professional woman. I think she is easily as heroic as Cihan. But here he is on Wednesday I think it was telling her not to talk about Canada anymore. Shut up about it is his point, apparently because his nerves are raggedy. If hers are raggedy (and they are) then she’s seen as weak and complaining, but she never orders anyone about or tells them to shut up. Then there was the awful scene on Friday where she asks him how does he do it? How does he carry all this weight? Dondi characterized that as her whining. Me, I saw it as being like the scenes in old movies where the wispy girl cuddles up to the heavily muscled man in awe. You’re so manly! Barf. I think the writers wanted to showcase that Cihan is heroic (yes, we already know!), but it would have been much more in character for her to compliment him on his cool-headedness. She wouldn’t ask how he does it because she’s doing it herself.

Maggie, wow! So interesting to read about your time in Germany. I'm of German heritage on my father's side. My great grandfather was born in Ohio in 1842 a couple of years after his family arrived, I presume at Ellis Island. He fought on the Union side in the Civil War. But I've never been to Germany! I have had a fascination with romance languages and have studied French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. And missing your chance in Australia sounds heartbreaking.

Maggie, you certainly did quite a psychological analysis of our dizi. I mostly really like Alya, but sometimes she just goes on and on and rags on Cihan saying the same thing over and over and it's tiring.

K, glad you're hanging on. Loved your idea of sending the henchies after Sadakat. I said on the last page that I wouldn't mind her falling off a parapet.

    Part 1 of 4

This was a dense episode full of interesting conversations. I managed to avoid throwing my remote through the television in reaction to Sadakat’s outrageous behavior.

Erol calls Cihan to say that Ecmel attacked his own nephew with a knife, but Fashali stopped him. “Ecmel is at the Yonca hospital. After the fight our guys went to the infirmary. They’re both fine." [Really? Kaya was beaten badly and choked with a rod. Ecmel’s guys rammed a thick piece of wood over and over again into Kadir’s midsection.] Erol says he’s on the way to be present when the fiscal (public prosecutor) questions them.

Cihan tells Sada that he didn’t have Ecmel killed because he, Cihan, wanted it that way. She insists he should have had him killed. [After some later scenes, maybe she’s right.]

Another legal hearing where we don’t hear what was said. Erol comes out to say that the guys will be in isolation for a while. Fashali stated that he had to intervene to stop Ecmel, and this will be taken into consideration as protecting someone from harm. [I doubt it will happen, but when Ecmel goes back to the slammer, he should lose all those privileges he seems to have.]

Cihan insists on seeing “his guys”. Erol mutters: “Wonder when I get to retire?” Cihan: “When you’re dead!” Erol has somehow gotten Kaya and Kadir 5 minutes with Cihan. Cihan embraces Kaya and Kadir puts his head into Cihan’s chest. Kaya asks about Ecmel. He’s worried that Zerrin and Sahin won’t ever forgive them. Cihan: “Would you walk to your death to make them feel better?” Kaya reminds him of when Sadakat shot Alya. “What she did to Ecmel was also very bad. (framing him so that he’d go to prison). He’s angry.” Kaya is afraid of losing Zerrin and keeps insisting that he has to speak with her. Cihan reminds him he’s going to be in solitary.

Nare calls Sahin from her hotel. Sahin has walked down the hospital corridor, and Fidan answers his phone. [Yikes, these dizi mamas are outrageous!] Fidan tells Nare to leave Sahin in peace. “Don’t ever call him again!” Nare is so frustrated that she starts breaking things in her hotel room and collapses in sobs.

Alya goes to Boran’s grave. Of course, one of Cihan’s guys is following and reports where she is to Cihan.

Alya: “I began a life with you believing everything was right and true. But you’re not who I thought you were. I don’t know who you are. You deceived me for years. I thought out marriage was real, but it was a lie. I really loved you too much. But it seems that that love wasn’t returned. What am I going to do. The moment you recorded that video you had already given me up. Maybe it was even before. Now I renounce you, Boran. [Just then Telemundo decides to ruin an important scene with another crappy song in Spanish. Fortunately, they put song lyrics in italics, so I’m learning to mute my television until some dialog by the characters resumes.] Alya buries what looks like an engagement ring from Boran in his grave. But she still has a gold band on her finger, presumably the one from Cihan.

[I think she went overboard. She doesn’t understand the culture, and Boran probably loved her deeply and understood she and Deniz might be at risk.]

    Part 2 of 4

Alya calls the Canadian Consulate. Deniz’s “replacement” passport is ready. She asks that it be sent to the hospital ASAP.

Cihan marches into Mine’s office. She has a hangdog look but says she’s sorry about Kaya. Cihan tells her she didn’t pick up last night when he called her. She says she was sleeping. Cihan: “How did you get that memoria (usb)". Mine, looking defiant: “It wasn’t hard. It fell from your jacket, and I couldn’t resist. Now I know why you married." Cihan: “Why’d you give it to her? Mine: “So she’d know the truth and stop imagining other possibilities.” When he asks what sort of possibilities, she replies that there’s a possibility of their (Cihan and Alya) loving each other. “You’ve become closer to her as time passes, and you’re farther from me. Don’t deny it! Your soul’s in another place."

Cihan: “My soul’s with someone else?” Mine: “It’s with Meryem. I resigned myself to that. I thought that, after Meryem, you’d never fall in love with anyone else. Cihan: “I’m not in love with anyone, Mine.” Mine: “It hurts so much to hear you say that. Cihan, I cannot live without you. What hurts me the most is that, although you won’t admit it, quieres a esa mujer. [I used the Spanish because the verb form querer is different from amar and after all these years of study, I still sometimes wonder about the difference between them in specific conversations.

Cihan: “You saw the video, right? You knew that I only married Alya because Boran wanted it. But you inserted yourself where you should not have done so.” Mine: “I didn’t do anything wrong! Why shouldn’t she know? “ Cihan: “Can’t you understand how much damage hearing that would do to any person? You’re also a woman.” Mine: Did you think about my feelings when you made me your unwanted lover knowing how much I loved you. Didn’t you ever think about MY damage? I am also a woman.”

She rushes outside, trying to control herself at work when Demir approaches. “Did Cihan Albora hurt you that much?” I’m again wondering why he’s there, but I remember he bought the hospital. She tries to get him to go away, but he reminds her he’s her boss. “Just call me if you want my help.” [Wanna bet she’ll do it?]

Cihan walks into Ecmel’s hospital room. Fidan starts spitting venom. Ecmel says that he’s come to laugh at them. Sahin: “Is it true that you ordered my father’s stabbing? We were brothers! Traitor!” Cihan: “The only traitor here is your father. He tried to kill Kaya. I simply stopped him.” We see Zerrin react. Ecmel lies, saying that Cihan came to tell him he’d be leaving prison in a coffin. Cihan: “Sahin, do you think your father wouldn’t consider killing my brother in prison.” Sahin looks away. Fidan barks that he’s in prison because of Cihan’s mother.

Fidan: “You had him stabbed!” Cihan: “Yes, we had him stabbed. And, if he dares attack anyone in my family, I’ll do it again.” Sahin grabs him by the lapels. Alya has come into the room and tries to intervene. Cihan speaks softly to Sahin. “Kaya is your brother. What are you thinking of doing? You’re so blind with rage that you can’t think straight.” Sahin: “You let them stab him! What if he’d died?” Cihan: “If I wanted to kill him, I’d have done it.” Sahin pushes him away. Alya gets Cihan out of the room.

    Part 3 of 4

Cihan and Alya stand at the hospital balcony. Cihan’s way of making nice sems to lean toward sarcasm. He asks Alya if she hasn’t come to accuse him of being a soulless monster who tried to kill his uncle. “You ought to say I’m a smuggler who forced you to marry according to the egotistical dream of his brother.” Alya: “You left something out. You’re an unhappy man who carries the weight of your family on your shoulders. One can easily see this. We all try to cure our wounds in our own ways, but you also have wounds. Instead of trying to cure them, you’re too busy hiding your tracks. It’s very evident how tired you are.”

Cihan: “I wished for a different life. [He’s speaking as to a friend, calmly and sincerely.] If my father were alive, I’d have a much different life. Although my father raised me for this role, I never wanted to become the head of this family. Because Boran was there, and that was his duty. Despite all that’s happened I look back, and I realized that my father was gone. And Boran also.

Sahin calls Nare at last. Nare: “Why didn’t you come?” Sahin: “Something unexpected came up.” Nare: “What?” Sahin: “Your brother Cihan ordered my father to be killed.” [Come on, Sahin, you heard Cihan’s version. You know your father. Whose version is more likely?]

Oh boy! Sadakat found Nare. She’s on her #10 nasty setting. “What happened> You couldn’t meet Sahin? Did he tell you why he didn’t appear?” Nare: “He really wanted to kill my uncle? How is he?” Sada: “That demon tried to kill Kaya. I’m talking about the bastard father of Sahin, the one who you were trying to escape with.” Nare begins to sob while Sada continues her rant. Sada says she’s taking Nare to her husband. Nare vehemently protests, but Sada has two guys drag her out. And she grabs Nare’s phone on the way out.

Cihan sees that only his ring is on Alya’s finger. He gets a call about what Sadakat had done with Nare. Alya comes along to help.

Ozkan and Nare begin to argue as soon as she walks into her former home. Sada tells them to stop. She tells Ozkan Nare had gone to a hotel to clear her mind, but now she’s home. “The baby she was expecting was yours. The problem with Sahin won’t happen again because Cihan ordered his father to be stabbed in prison. I say this to let you know we never permit a lack of respect. You aren’t my favorite, but that could change. You could be admitted to our family.”

Nare blows up. “What am I, an object? How can you keep humiliating me this way?" Sada: “You know what you did. You dared to marry this man without my permission!”

Cihan and Alya show up. Ozkan plays tough for about 10 seconds. Alya goes to Nare. Cihan wants her to come with them. He shuts the bedroom door in Ozkan’s face. Nare asks about Ecmel. Alya says he’ll recover soon. Nare: “I was going to escape with Sahin last night. It was a difficult decision. I’m married and I have a mother. Sahin has family. Besides all that, I dared to do it. I thought I could leave all this behind and be happy.”

    Part 4 of 4

Cihan: “You know what happened. If they hadn’t stabbed Uncle Ecmel to stop him, Kaya would have surely died.”

Nare: “I dreamed once more. I waited but Sahin never came.” Cihan wants to bring her to the mansion. Alya; “Let’s go.” Nare: “I can’t return. Don’t you know our mother? She’d be on top of me and never leave me in peace. Plus, I just lost my baby and don’t have the strength to confront what’s coming.” Cihan is not happy about her being with Ozkan. Nare: “He won’t give me a divorce.” Cihan: “Let me handle it.” Nare: “And, if he refuses, you’ll stab him in the back?”

Cihan looks so sad. Nare apologizes. She says that the thing with Ecmel and Kaya is weighing on him. Cihan: “I only want to help you.” She embraces her brother. He tells her to consider coming to the mansion for a while. Alya wants her to come to the hospital for her to check on her. She left the hospital too soon. Cihan says he’ll send a driver.

Cihan and Alya come back to the konak. Umma and Zeynep are pushing Deniz on a swing set that’s miraculously appeared. He’s full of joy. Alya rushes up to her son. Sada appears to say what a wonderful mother Zeynep is going to be. Alya glares at her and takes Deniz away.

Cihan asks Sada if she thinks Nare is in good health. He says that she’s up to her limit. “I ask you not to be so hard on her or she could get worse.” Sada: “She’d suffer more if I didn’t correct her. What about Kaya?” Cihan: “If you’d stop interfering, I’ll resolve this soon.” Sada; “Look how you address me! Ecmel will do all he can so Kaya doesn’t go free. You should have gotten rid of him.”

Cihan ticks some things off: "1. No one will die. 2. Zerrin won’t change her declaration. And 3. Don’t even think of interfering in this behind my back. Kaya’s situation is delicate, and there’s no room for any errors."

Alya brings Cihan some tea and sits on the couch where he’ll probably be sleeping going forward (and not at Mine’s). Cihan: “You don’t like tea?” Alya: “I prefer coffee.” He politely says how terrific the tea is, but she replies that she brought the tea Ummu made. They agree they’re both sad about Nare. Alya tells him he shouldn’t blame himself. He starts to say something about being at the end of his life, but Alya walks into the other room. He calls after her: “How do you like your coffee?” Alya: ¡Amargo! (bitter).

Ecmel and Fidan insist that Zerrin change her story at Kaya’s trial. “Kaya shot Sedat!” She looks to Sahin. Sahin looks troubled, but we don’t see what, if anything, he has to say.

I laughed, too, at the swing suddenly appearing above the carpark. I said something to my husband, who doesn't watch. But I suppose it's the same as putting a basketball hoop above a driveway. Move the cars and you can play. Someone realized they had a 5yr old and attached it to the top of the carpark shelter. Nice for the kid and kid character..

  10. "CASILLAS"
Howdy from the Alamo City, CarayCaray Family. It appears that the cat & mouse game between Terminator Victor & the remaining Casillas family members is still ongoing.

Looks like the music being so ominous during the phone confrontation between Ismael & General Cifuentes was intriguing.

Speaking of intriguing: We see Cifuentes' lackeys taking Tata to prison or some other detention center. One thing is certain: unless Ismael & Co., come to the rescue, Tata is still in danger.

This is a terrific recap, novelera! I really liked this episode because the characters actually had conversations with each other. Before the dialog was telegraphic. It’s almost like they had new writers this time.

I agree, I think Alya jumped to the wrong conclusion about Boran.

Cihan reproaches Mine, asking if she didn’t know how painful it would be for Alya to see that video. Mine counters that he knows how much she (Mine) is in love with him and that he doesn’t love her back – doesn’t he realize how that hurts her? Yes, he’s really just using her, and should have broken it off after her suicide attempt due to her broken heart. Instead he just kept using her. As for her, what she should have done long ago is to give up and move away. There’s no fix for someone not loving you back. You just gotta give up. She says she can’t live without him, but this ain’t living.

I too was amazed that Kaya was in such good shape after a horrific beating. No bruises or swelling. And no broken ribs? Some guy was hitting him repeatedly in the chest with a board.

Why did Nare marry Oskan? Do we know?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lejos

How about a third option for Nare? She could rent an apartment and live by herself. I’m sure Cihan would bankroll that.

  13. lejos

Maggie, I like the apartment idea! Sadakat would have a fit, even better!

Thank you for sharing your double losses with us. What a series of tragedies, none of which you could control, but that totally changed your life. You must be resilient in being able to get through it all. It helps me appreciate Alya more.

It’s hard for me to understand the culture that keeps Alya from being fulfilled. She suffered the loss of Boran and her perceived second loss of Boran. I asked earlier if it is possible he was forced to make the video. He could even be facing a gun. Sounds like something Demir would do. Alya seems to think it was out of character and goes on to blame Boran.

Cihan’s spirits lifted just a bit when he noticed the single ring. Who knew he was even paying attention! I want him to find some joy. Who is Meryem? Do we know that story yet?

Surely Sahin knows Cihan’s sensible nature well. Why does he believe the lies without verifying them?

I’m starting a list of henchies. There are so many. Each person of power has many. I wonder if Kadir and Muzzafer worked their way up as you would in a company.

We see Zeynep again. I hope she gets married soon. I still think she probably has someone she’d like to marry from her hometown. She will always be grateful to Alya snd Cihan, I think.

These stories do stay with you. I dream of them sometimes! It’s an experience more than just entertainment. On top of it all, we learn so much about that fascinating country thanks to the dizi and Dondi’s contributions. We are very fortunate.

What a treat, novelera, an excellent recap. ITA with all your asides.

I appreciate you sharing your story with us, Maggie.

I think Alya is a strong woman. She’s up against a lot. But I get tired of watching, and recapping, the same rants night after night. Alya was at her best when she calmly told Sada that she would get the better of her, but not by being a malicious schemer like her.

Cihan is a martyr. Alya realizes his situation. She said so last night. If we talk about “hostages”, all our protagonists are hostages to the prevailing culture of the region. I think novelera referred to this in an earlier post.

Turkish episode played the theme song, “De Mardin”, during Alya’s cemetery scene.

I don’t know if she’s supposed to be dead, but let’s wait for Meryem to show up.

ITA, Maggie, Mine should cut her losses and go back to Istanbul. There’s nothing for her in Midyat. Her daughter will likely show up at some point, too.

Nare might have married Ozkan out of spite or desperation that her mom was going to marry her off to some neanderthal.

They call the guy who stabbed Ecmel, “Façalı”. I had to look this up because it bothered me. Definition is “seamy”, could refer to his character and/or physical looks.

Just to clarify--I have access to a place where ALL the postings go. There are several categories. One is ALL, another is Awaiting Moderation, and there are a couple of others. When a posting on the Telemundo page is reported as missing, I always look in ALL, and most of the time, I find the missing posting and am able to restore it. This time, I also looked in the section called Awaiting Moderation. Interestingly, all the messages there were from kooks and trolls and had nothing to do with any of the telenovelas. I should also note that many of these were sent to Univision pages, but a few were sent to the Telemundo pages. But no matter where they were sent, all were blocked. I didn't see any messages in Awaiting Moderation that seemed in any way legitimate. I am still totally mystified as to why some legitimate postings occasionally don't get posted or disappear.

    Episide 28 #1
    Bajo presion – Under pressure

Meeting of Ecmel, Fidan, and Sahin in hospital with Zerrin
Ecmel to Zerrin: You are going to testify against Kaya in court and say that he shot Sedat.
    Fidan: Do you understand?
Zerrin looks to Sahin for help. He looks away. Zerrin says she’ll do it. She leaves sobbing. Sahin is very impactado with this.

Big meeting at a konak with Cihan’s importing partners including Hasan, Nadim, Halis (I think), and Erol.

Cihan: Hey, Nadim, do you think that I don’t know that Demir and Ecmel have been riling the tribes up? I already knew that, but why didn’t you? Why don’t you go talk to Demir about that?
Nadim: We’re all partners here who just wan’t the business to grow. There shouldn’t be any mistrust.
Cihan: You are trying to make the most of the situation. It’s obvious you want control, but I’m sorry, I am in charge. Now, go tell the tribes that the shipment will be soon and if they don’t want to work with me because they don’t trust me they’re free to find another supplier. The same applies to you because I know how to get those trucks across the border too. Nadim chews on this for a bit and then gets up and tells Cihan he is leaving.
Cihan: How are things going, Erol?
Erol: The merchandise is ready but after the raid, the police are keeping a close eye on us. Ecmel getting stabbed just ads to the heat we’re getting.
Halis: We can’t afford to wait anymore. We’ll have to bribe them if we want to work in peace. The shipment should head out immediately.
Cihan: We have to wait for the right moment. Everything will happen when it’s supposed to.

At the jail, Kaya is looking out his window at someone. The guard with the glasses gives him a phone from Cihan. He calls Zerrin first.
    Kaya: Zerrin!
She cries into the phone. He tells her he needs to hear her voice.
Kahya: I didn’t want this to happen. You need to believe me. I didn’t want this. Your father tried to attack me, and my brother (referring to Fashali who stabbed Ecmel) had no choice, Zerrin. Say something. Talk to me, curse me out, shout, just say something, Zerrin.
She turns off the phone. Kaya hollers in his cell and bangs on the door in frustration. He gives the phone to Kadir in the next cell.
Kadir tells him: We need to calm down and keep moving forward. There will be time to cry later. We need to get out of here alive and well. You know what Father Orhan (probably a reference to an Ottoman sultan) says: You can’t live without hope. Without love, but one finds love along the way. Not so for me, though. [This was confusing to translate. I think it means you can manage without everything but hope. You have to have hope.]
Kaya: We’re going to get out of here, right, Kadir?
Kadir: For sure. Of course we will.
    Kaya paces some more.

    At the hospital
Sahin: Dad, repaying one betrayal with another is wrong. Didn’t you attack first?
Fidan: Do you know what you’re saying?
Ecmel: You’re a traitor. You’re defending those bastards? Do I have to die for you to believe what they did to me? How can you question what I say? You should be ashamed.

Sahin: Dad, didn’t you say it yourself? “I’m going to teach Kaya the lesson of his life.” Those were your words.
Ecmel: You’re right. I was blinded by anger. After finding out about Zerrin I was consumed with rage. But, Kaya is my nephew after all. I wasn’t going to hurt him. In the end, who ended up getting stabbed? Me. I could’ve died.
    Fidan: Don’t say that, Ecmel.
Sahin looks very unhappy with this discussion. There is a knock.
Demir walks in and asks how Ecmel is doing.
Sahin tells Demir to get out.
Ecmel asks Sahin why he is yelling at him: Demir isn’t the one who stabbed me in the back. If you want revenge, go settle the score with Cihan.
Sahin: This man is the Alboras’ enemy.
Ecmel: No, he’s Cihan’s sworn enemy. (Ecmel’s eyes are scary wide as he says this.)
Demir: Don’t I have good reason to hate him? Cihan took the woman I loved. On top of that, he married her right in front of me. She died because of that bastard.
Sahin: He did it to stop the bloodshed, Demir.
Demir: Really? What’s the reality here? He stabbed your father. You think he wants to end this war? Look at your father there. Kaya attacked his own uncle. His own blood. Are you going to put up with that? Your father survived, but what’ll happen when he goes back to jail? He was stabbed by the man he trusted most. It’s not safe for him in there anymore. They’ll try to finish what they started.
Sahin: I’m done listening to you. It’s true.
    Ecmel: Demir is right.
Demir: I have to go, Mr. Ecmel. Just know that you can always count of me. If you need anything, please call.
    Fidan: Allah will protect you.
    Sahin sits down.
Ecmel: Sahin, son listen to me. Cihan will kill me in there.
    Fidan: Don’t say that, Ecmel.
    Ecmel: He made that clear.
Sahin: He can’t touch you now.
Ecmel: He attacked me and he’ll do it again. That prison’s going to be my tomb.
    Fidan: Be quiet!
Sahin looks at his parents incredulously.
Ecmel: I have to bust out of jail.
    This gets Sahin’s attention.
Ecmel tells Fidan there is no other option. It’s his only choice.

    Back at Nare’s home.
Ozkan apologizes: I lost my composure when I saw that picture, Nare. I love you so much and then I got jealous.
Nare: That’s not true, Ozkan. What you love is the offer my mother made you. The only things you care about are money and power.
Ozkan: That’s not true. You’re wrong. I’m not interested in your mother’s offer. I went looking for you the day you disappeared. If you’d picked up the phone, I would’ve apologized. Because I am sorry.
Nare: Sure you are. You really think I’m buying this?
Ozkan: Why should I believe you, Nare? Why should I believe that you don’t love Sahin? Do you really not have feelings for him?
Nare: The truth is, I love Sahin. I’ve always loved him and that’s not going to change. Now that you know that, tell me, can you still be my husband? (Ozkan doesn’t answer). Of course you can. There’s no way you’re rejecting my mother’s offer. She bestowed upon you a little of that Albora power. Right? Since I was honest with you, why don’t you do the same? Am I right or not?
Nare draws closer: How about we make a deal? I won’t go near Sahin again, and you get to take advantage of the opportunities that my mother gave you. But, in return, no contact. We’ll sleep in separate rooms, but we’ll share the house, and we’ll keep the arrangement to ourselves. Do we have a deal?

    Episode 28 #4
Alya: I ask you not to make a spectacle. This isn’t the place.
Cihan: I won’t fight. Trust me.
    Alya: Promise me.
Cihan: I swear it, now go. Go ahead and I’ll catch up.
    Alya complies.
Cihan approaches the group outside Ecmel’s room.
Cihan: Well, here I am, tell me what you wanted.
Sahin: Mother, Zerrin, leave us alone. Go in Dad’s room.
Sahin stand up. The former close friends look at one another in sadness.
Sahin: My father says that when he returns to the prison, you will try to finish him off. Will you finish the job, Cihan?
Cihan: Sahin, don’t you understand? If I had really wanted to kill him, I would already have done it.
    Sahin: Don’t you dare try.
Cihan: Let your father touch Kaya again and we’ll see what happens next, OK?
They look at one another for a bit and then Cihan walks away.

Back at the konak, Sadakat looks at her clock. Her phone rings.
Voice of a henchie: Ms. Sadakat we arrived at the location. We will wait for you.
    Sadakat: I won’t be long.
She strides out down a long walkway, in the cave-like room where there are three henchies.
Sadakat: Did you complete the preparations?
    Yes Ma’am.
Sadakat: He won’t leave the hospital alive.
Tomorrow we will finish the work.
Sadakat: Cihan must not find out. Be careful. And don’t come back until you’ve done it.

At the hospital, Cihan enters Alya’s office.
    Alya: Did you argue?
Cihan closes the door: I am sorry that my aunt insulted you the way she did.
Alya: Don’t worry. Do you think your uncle is provoking them?
Cihan: Certainly. He wants to get me to my limit so that they can react the way that they are used to.
    Alya: But you are different.
Cihan: He smiles at her. We can hope. But your theory that I am a ruffian is starting to crumble. Be careful.
He walks around her consulting room and tells her he could have designed one with more style. He grins when he sees her picture of Alya and Deniz. Ahh, this is lovely!, he exclaims.
    Alya: My son.
Cihan: He is a great kid.
They both smile at one another as they think about Deniz. Then they have a friendly almost flirty conversation:
Cihan: You raised a wonderful son Alya. Both of you did.
Alya: Thank you. Why did you come?
Cihan: I looked for you in the konak but didn’t find you.
Alya: Did you think I escaped?
    Cihan: Abandoning Cihan?
Alya: That would make you happy.
Cihan: Why didn’t you tell me that you were going to be on call.
Alya: Ahhh. I’m very sorry. I should have let you know.
Cihan tells her he worries about her. Demir is on the prowl and you are working in his hospital.

    Episode 28 #5
Alya: So, if you are going to come very day, I will make space in my agenda.
Cihan: That won’t be necessary. My men are at the door. They watch out for you. Have a nice shift. He smiles and leaves.
Alya is also smiling and looks around her room thinking of what he said about the décor.
[This was a nice interaction, so different from being with the unpleasant people, and you can see the thawing of their relationship. Their smiles are heartwarming.]

A hospital attendant asks Mine if Alya is there. She is carrying an envelope. Mine says she already left. Seeing it’s from the Canadian embassy, Mine directs her to put it on Alya’s desk. Mine follows, of course. She opens the envelope carefully so she can reseal it. Mine to herself: A passport. The video worked! She is ecstatic.

At the konak, Alya and Deniz are playing on his bed. She asks Deniz what they are celebrating today? We see Cihan arrive in the background, just in time to hear this.
Alya to Deniz: Don’t tell me you forgot! He thinks for a bit and remembers it’s his birthday.
She asks him what he wants her to give him for his birthday? It’s his day.
Deniz: A cake with bananas and strawberries.
Alya: I will go find your cake, the biggest one I can find. What else do you want?
Deniz: Don’t forget that Dad always took me to ride horses with him.
Alya is impactada: That’s right. Today we will do something different. We will go to the amusement park.
    Deniz: And after?
Alya: And later, we’ll eat an enormous ice cream.
Deniz: I want to ride horses, Mom.
Alya: Listen, I have to prepare your cake, we’ll eat it and we will celebrate here and then go to the amusement park.
Deniz: It’s ok, but I really wanted to go horseback riding.
    Cihan, hearing this, looks sad.
Alya: You just won another round of tickling.
She proceeds to play with him again.

    At the penitentiary in Midyat:
The guard with the round glasses passes the phone to Kaya again. He tells Kaya it is Cihan.
Cihan: Tell me, are you both OK?
Kaya: We are fine. And my uncle, how is he?
    Cihan: He is better.
Kaya: Zerrin didn’t want to talk to me.
Cihan: The hearing will be in one week. Stay strong. I will get you out of there.
After hearing Kaya sniffling, he reminds him that he needs to be strong. Kaya agrees to try. Cihan summons his inner Yoda and says: Don’t try, just do it.
He tells him to give Kadir his greeting and for both of them to be careful. Kaya agrees.
Erol asks Cihan how Kaya is doing? Is his state of mind good?
Cihan says: No. How is the case is going? Do we have videos, witnesses or some evidence?
Erol: Unfortunately no, we have nothing.
Cihan: We need to revisit the scene of the crime.
    Cihan looks very worried.

    Episode 28 #6
At the hospital, Alya goes to her office, nodding at Mine as she passes her. She opens the envelope. She looks very relieved to finally have Deniz’ passport. Outside, Nare walks up to the door while Sahin is on an outside bench. The two look longingly at one another. They meet. She asks about his father’s health. He reminds her that Sadakat put his father in jail and now Cihan has put him in the hospital: What do you think?
Nare: I was with you knowing that it would ruin me.
Sahin: And what about me? You know that I suffered, too.
Nare: This is the second time you have left me.
Sahin: How would you like this to go, Nare? Didn’t you see what happened? Your brother stabbed my father.
Nare: Because your father was going to kill Kaya.
Sahin: This justifies it? Doesn’t my father have reason to respond to what your mother did?
Nare: If he had stabbed Kaya, would you keep defending him?
Sahin: No, but understand me, if my father had stabbed him, would you have run away with me? Really?
Nare: I won’t answer your question. It matters not. It’s over. I won’t wait for you again, Sahin. There won’t be a third time. I returned to my house with my husband.
Sahin is impactado. They look at one another sadly, and Nare walks off. Sahin looks destroyed.

Nare enters Alya’s office. Alya asks if she is OK.
Nare sits down: I don’t want to see Sahin again in my whole life.
Alya: Did you run into him?
    She gives her some water.
Alya: Give yourself some time. It’s the best medicine.
Nare: I doubt it. Time makes the wounds bleed and causes more suffering.
Alya: Guess what? Today is Deniz’ birthday.
    Nare: Does my brother know?
Alya: I haven’t told him. The situation is chaotic and he has too much to be worried about.
Nar: If you’d told us, we would have made a party. What does he like?
Alya: He loves horseback riding. His father always took him on his birthday without fail.
    Nare: Boran loved the horses.
Alya sighs a few times: I saw the video that Boran recorded. You knew, right? Why didn’t you tell me?
Nare: I couldn’t. I couldn’t tell you something like that. Listen, I understand your anger with Boran, but Cihan isn’t at fault, do you agree?
Alya looks thoughtful and says it’s time to start her doctor visit. She tells her that she is going to do a test.
Nare: How did that video get to you?
Alya: Someone put it in my bag. Naturally I suspected your mother, but it wasn’t her. Who could it have been? Do you have anyone in mind?
Nare: I’m sorry, but I have no idea who it might have been.
Alya: I’m leaving work early. Will you help me make a cake for Deniz?
Nare: I’d like to, but what do we do about my mother?
    Alya: Are you asking me?
    They smile.

    Episode 28 #7
    At the konak.
A van pulls up and Alya and Nare exit. The konak is decorated with balloons and other birthday things. Alya smiles broadly. Ummu and Muzzafer welcome them.
Alya: It looks wonderful. How did you know?
Ummu: Mr. Cihan told us. We also decorated the living room. Muzzafer blew up the balloons. Mr. Cihan bought a cake. It is in the kitchen. Go look, you will love it.
Alya looks at the point of happy tears.
Cihan brings Deniz and tells him to keep his eyes closed. He takes him into the dining room. The table is full of treats. Deniz says it is a surprise party! He wants to know where his mother is. Alya brings out the cake. Nare brings him a crown, and one for Alya. Sadakat rolls her eyes. Muzzafer is recording this. Deniz makes a wish. It looks like five candles, so he must be five. They cut the cake. Sadakat asks Cihan to take her grandson to her. She talks to Deniz, trying to get a rise out of Alya. She tells him he will be the will be the pillar of the konak.
Lots of celebrating, Cihan getting a big hug and Nare coming close for one, too.
Sadakat looks menacingly at everyone. [What is she up to now?]
Alya thanks Cihan for the celebration. He says he deserves even more.
    Alya: How did you know?
Cihan: Perhaps I heard you say it in a loud voice.
Alya: Or maybe you were spying.
Cihan: No, I was just passing.
They are standing close to one another and smiling.
Cihan asks Deniz if he is happy. He tells him yes. Cihan says well, there might yet be a surprise. Then he says the magic word: horses! Deniz is so happy.
Later they go to see horses. Deniz tells Cihan these are prettier horses than in Toronto. He wants to ride. Cihan says there is a problem. He has never been on a horse, nor has Nare. Cihan asks who he will ride with. He says his mother is afraid. Cihan asks if he can ride alone? Alya says no way. Cihan keeps teasing her about this. Then the groom brings out a small pony for Deniz. Deniz exclaims that he can do it alone. He thanks Cihan. He says I know that I can’t have my father but I have you to care for me. This affects Cihan.
Cihan tells him to make friends with the pony with a treat first.
Then he needs to name him. Firfir is the name he chooses. He rides around and they take lots of pictures.
Cihan stands with Nare. She tells him they are very happy. She asks who showed Alya the video. She tells him she can tell he knows and since he won’t say who, she knows who it is.

Episode 28 #3 (Out of order)
Ozkan: Will you forget about Sahin forever?
Nare: Completely. But I’ll no longer be your wife.
    Ozkan: I accept.
Nare: Great. Now leave and let me enjoy my coffee.

    At the Albora konak.
Cihan enters his room. He looks for Nare. He finds Deniz asleep in his bed.
Cihan goes downstairs and asks Ummu where Alya is. Ummu tells him she was working at the hospital overnight.
Cihan asks Ummu where she is taking some water.
    Ummu: It’s for your mother.
Cihan tells her he is going to his office in the konak.
Ummu is taking the water up the stairs when Sadakat appears. She takes the water glass. She asks Ummu for a coffee, no sugar.
    Ummu: Without sugar?
    Sadakat: Yes, please.
Cihan is sitting on his couch when there is a knock. He tells Alya to come in. But it’s not Alya!
Zeynep enters, dressed up, bringing him the coffee that Sadakat had ordered.
Zeynep: I’ve brought you the coffee you asked for.
Cihan: Didn’t I tell you it was forbidden to enter my home office?
Zeynep: Excuse me, I didn’t know.
    Cihan: She sent you, right?
    Zeynep nods.
Cihan: Return to your room and don’t come out until you leave this house. Go.
Zeynep nods and leaves. She gives Sadakat a little glare as she passes her.
Cihan comes down his stairs and walks by Sadakat. He calls for Ummu. She and Muzzafer come out of their rooms on the bottom floor. They both look up at Cihan: What can we do for you?
Cihan: From now on, only Alya may enter my home office. Understood? And the entrances, Muzzafer?
    Muzzafer: They are ready.
Cihan: How many are going to accompany the young lady?
Muzzafer: Two men will take her, leave her, and we’ll return immediately.
Cihan: Ummu, tell her to get ready.
Up walks Sadakat. Where are you sending Zeynep?
Cihan: That is not your business.
Sadakat: You can’t talk to me in this manner.
Cihan: While you continue this defiant attitude, I will have to use more severe methods.

    At the Yonca hospital
Alya is walking down the hall and arrives where Zerrin and Sahin are sitting outside their father’s room.
    Alya: May he recover soon.
Zerrin: I really appreciate this so much.
Alya: Your father’s doctor said that he will be fine. There is no risk.
Fidan joins the conversation: Yes, so he recovers so that they can return him to the jail and your miserable husband will finish him off.
    Sahin: This isn’t Alya’s fault.
    Alya: Be calm, it’s ok.
Cihan joins them in the hall.
Fidan: Look, she became the wife of Cihan.
Cihan: Alya, come here. Just ignore them. Go to your office. [Lots of ordering around here!] I won’t be long.
    Alya: What will you do?
Cihan: Don’t waste your time. I just want to speak with them.

After my summary for Episode 28 #3 disappeared twice, I looked for an offending word. It was the same word that I used last week that starts with e and used to be a name of a Ford car. I must really like that word! I changed it to "accompany" and it looks like that made it past the editing software.

So, #3 it's there, but out of order at the end.

Thanks so much, Babachita. That was an excellent recap, and I'm really pleased you discovered why your posts were being sidelined.

I was interested in the Spanish in the conversation with Nadim and the others in that they used tribes. Is that a Spanish translation of clans, which seems more like what is going on in this dizi?

I spent quite a while trying to figure out Papa Orhan. Thought it might be some sort of Turkish personage I was not aware of. Believe it or not, twice in this rabbit hole that I entered, I found Darth Vader! Could that possibly be what Kadir meant?

Demir keeps whining about Cihan stealing the love of his life, as if he'd had a choice. We know that it was part of the peace process after Boran killed a Baybars (apparently Boran's required vengeance after Boran, Cihan, and Nare's father was murdered by a Baybars). I'm now wondering if Cihan was courting Meryem when all this happened and had to renounce her.

I loved Nare calling Ozkan on his BS about being a jealous husband when he just wants to stay on the money train.

I'm pretty sure Sada's plan will fail. It's too soon for Ecmel to be offed; he's too good at being nasty.

I am SO enjoying the warming between Cihan and Alya. They're smiling at each other and co-parenting Deniz.

Mine is so obsessed that she's lost all sense of decency. First, she plays Cihan's USB, and then she opened Alya's mail. I could be wrong, but I think she's had her last overnight with Cihan.

Sahin is disappointing me. He HAS to know what a skunk his father is. But he just keeps telling Cihan and even Nare that Cihan was at fault for the stabbing.

Pretty sure Cihan bought that pony for Deniz. So sweet.

Novelera, they used the word tribes in this episode’s translation, “las tribus.” I remember we discussed this way back, but I don’t recall if we chose a particular term to use.

Funny about Darth Vader! Cihan also made a Yoda quote in this episode so Vader might fit. Dondi might tell us who Papa Orhan is. Perhaps he is a philosopher or general who emphasized hope in his writing.

I like Sahin, but he does seem to be torn between his allegiances.

    Loved the pony!!!

Thanks for another comprehensive recap, Babachita.

The Father Orhan (Orhan Baba) that Kadir quoted is Orhan Gencebay, an accomplished musician, composer, singer and occasional actor. I felt sorry for Kadir as he thinks those words might not be meant for him.

Cut: Kaya has a flashback to a happier time with Zerrin. They are out to dinner. There’s a singer and Kaya sings along and serenades Zerrin.

Song: Mardinli Güzel Yarim/My Beautiful Love from Mardin - Murat Kurşun
    YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZLpMsdgKk8&list=RDYEoMzqjAx9s&start_radio=1

Also cut: the guard brings Kadir the phone. Maybe Cihan wants to call him. Kadir calls Muzzafer. Ummu asks Pakize to pick up the phone since she’s cooking. Pakize rips into Kadir. He asks, have you forgiven me yet? [lol] Of course, she will never forgive him. He says, life is short, what’s the problem if you forgive? She refuses and launches another stream of invective. Ummu says maybe Kadir was ordered to do this. Ask him if he wants dolma. Pakize shouts, let him eat stones!

Muzzafer takes the phone from Pakize. He tells Kadir, with Allah’s permission, we will get you out. Right now, Pakize is mad at you but I will go to the DA and withdraw the complaint. Pakize states, I will not withdraw the complaint. Let him rot. Muzzafer jokes, maybe if you committed a robbery, you would have served less time. Why did you mess with my crazy Pakize? Ummu and Muzzafer laugh and even Pakize gives a slight smile. Kadir apologizes—I made a mistake. Poor Kadir is suffering from unrequited love.

The Turkish word they use at meetings is “aşiret” or “aşiretler” (plural). This can be translated as tribe or clan. I hear this often in this type of dizi. A good explanation can be found here: https://hinative.com/questions/25009690

Deniz named the pony Fırfır. It means ruffle.

I’ve noticed that they are showing us scenes slightly out of order from the original. I wonder if these cuts will show up in the next episode. But they seem to be cutting anything related to Kadir and Pakize so far.

    ReplyDelete
  36. lejos

Thank you, Dondi! I hope they show the cut scenes later. I feel so bad for Kadir. He has a droll sense of humor, can accomplish near-miracles, and is very loyal. He deserves better. Maybe Pakize will get over this. I would also be annoyed at being grabbed the way she was. Maybe her strong reaction will reveal hidden emotions for Kadir. She may be frightened for the risk he took and worried he might be hurt in jail.

    He needs hope!

Thank you for the music! Love the name Ruffle for a pony.
