Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de Contrabando
    Episode 73 #1

At Nevin’s place, out in the country, far from the city
Fatih enters her room which he finds empty.
He starts checking all the rooms, while Tayyar is watching him.
Tayyar says she might be out, but she should be around.
Fatih: If you have done something to her, nothing in this world can protect you from me, Tayyar.
Tayyar says he hasn’t done anything: I tried to explain this dear son, why don’t you believe me? I’m trying to make a new life for us here.
Fatih continues to search. He finds Nevin in the kitchen listening to traditional music and cooking. She is very happy and welcomes him. They hug.
Fatih is still suspicious. Tayyar: I told you she’s at home doing something. You worry for nothing.
He looks very earnest, but we know not to trust him. He’s doing a good job of pretending to be a new “father” for Fatih.

At home, Asli is looking out the window. Elif is with her and looks at her sister intently.
Elif: There’s no excuse for what I did. I can’t really understand the pain that you have. I know that you won’t forgive me, but please just say something. Shout at me, hit me, break things, I made a mistake. Please get mad at me. I want to be punished for this. You wouldn’t have gotten used to the idea of a baby if I told you earlier. All this is my fault.
Asli reaches out for Elif and they hug and cry together.
    Elif: Asli, my dear sister.

On an Istanbul street, Arda is waiting. Sami and Omer drive up and ask what happened.
Arda: Sorry that I made you go out of your way, but I’ve got bad news.
Omer: Oh great, I had a feeling something was wrong.
They ask Arda to get in the car.
    Sami: So, what happened?
Arda: Nevin has left the police station.
Omer: But how? There were people standing guard at the door. No one should have had access. How did they not notice it?
Arda: The woman has left on her own accord. There was no need for her to hide.
Omer: She thinks that her son is out and that there’s no danger. Fantastic, fantastic! And how come they didn’t tell us this? I mean, what are we actually doing here? If they told us what the woman wanted, we would have acted accordingly.
Arda: How can I know Omer? It falls in Chief Sami’s jurisdiction. That’s why we didn’t do anything.
Sami: It’s not important whose mistake it is, Arda. We’ve lost the woman. She was our guarantee. Fatih will blame us, I’m sure, as he trusted us with his mother.
Arda: That’s why you need to be more careful. (Sami turns around and glares.) Whatever. This means that everything that goes wrong is not because of an inept staff. There are no informants in your team, are there?
Omer: Sir, let’s go to Changikoy. (Kadikoy?)
    Sami: Why?
Omer: I’ll talk to Tayyar Dundar. I’ll search his house if I have to.
Sami: We have to be calm, Omer. You know that we can’t do anything without a warrant, right?
Omer: Sir, if you won’t take me there, I’ll go myself. You can fire me now if you want. I mean you can also take my badge. I don’t care. I’ll go to Tayyar’s house and search for a clue that leads me to Metin.
Sami is still thinking as he drives them down the road.

    Episode 73 #2
Back to Nevin’s country place where Nevin and Fatih are listening to Tayyar. Lots of crows or might be ravens are cawing ominously outside, fitting the mood of the place perfectly.
Tayyar looks all nice and lovey, but his clenching and unclenching fists give him away.
Tayyar: Up until today, I’ve only been trouble you know. I was angry with you. I know I was unfair to both of you. I’m the only one to blame for the fact that my son hates me, you know I made mistakes. So many mistakes, but I really do get it now. I promise you that I do.
Fatih: To be honest with you, it’s good to hear these things from you even if I know they’re lies.
Tayyar: I’m ready to start a new page, you know.
Nevin looks at him in alarm, no smile on her face.
Tayyar continues: Forget about the painful past if you’ll just give me a chance to make you very happy. I will do all I possibly can to help you all to put this pain behind you. I’m just asking you to give me a second chance. That’s all I want from you. [Oh, and your kidney, too, if you please!]
The three of them stare at one another.
Tayyar: Think of this house as your own. I just want to be your father, Fatih. I know that you don’t trust me really. You have reason not to. Look, forget it all. Just think about this. I could have killed you without giving you the second chance at freedom. Nevin as well. I’ll never do anything wrong again. You’re wondering what has come over me, aren’t you? It’s just my conscience, that’s all.
We see Fatih thinking very hard as he hears this, not yet convinced.
Tayyar: The conscience which I thought was dead a long time ago. The love of a child that I got from you. You know that day because of you got my conscience back. You reminded me that I have a child. I face up to mistakes because of you, that is what has happened. You’ve got to believe that is what’s happened to me. I have learned from my mistakes. Look, don’t get me wrong. You are not victims here. You’re free and can go anytime you want to. You can also live here forever, if you’d like to. I won’t come if you don’t want me to. But I’ll come happily if you want me to be here. The only reason for me choosing a house so far from the city is to protect you. It is dangerous for Fatih to be out. The police and Omer won’t leave you be. It’s the same for you, Nevin. There are so many things that Fatih has done in the past. I’m doing the best I can, so they don’t get into those files, but Omer seems really clever. If he finds something it may result in Fatih going to prison for many years. Surely neither of you want that. OK, I’ll leave you here to talk now. Also, Fatih, so you can be alone with your mother. You’ve been gone for so long. I won’t leave anyone outside as you don’t trust me. I’ll take my driver and leave. Please call if you need anything. Also, son, I want to go fishing tomorrow. You’re welcome to join me. I took you once when you were little. Maybe you can remember it. We can spend some father-son time. Come on, tell me, what do you say? Just think about it. Give me a call sometime if you’re up for it.
Tayyar finally leaves. Fatih and Nevin still haven’t said anything, but their expressions are a mixture of shock and fear.
Outside the house, we see Tayyar descend the stairs and get into a waiting van. He tells the henchie driver to be careful. If Fatih and his mother try to get away, then he should lock them in the basement. Don’t forget it. No one is to shoot Fatih. I really need him alive. See that you remember that! If not, there will be trouble for you. You just watch what happens to those two.
Henchie: Don’t worry, Mr. Tayyar. There will be no problem, I promise you that.
Tayyar: Remember Naci and take care of Nevin. You know I don’t make jokes. We’re going home.
They drive off. Tayyar gets on the phone: Doctor, I’ve got some very good news for you. The donor is at his house. You can start your preparations.
    Tayyar is smiling happily.

    Episode 73 #3
Nevin watches them drive off. She goes to Fatih: Son, he’s gone, let’s go.
    Fatih: Let’s not go.
Nevin: Do you think he lied again? Are his men around?
Fatih: Maybe yes, maybe no. I have lived with Tayyar for so long that I know how he thinks and how he plans things. But I am leaving now. I will never know.
    Nevin asks him what.
Fatih: Mother, do you think he was sincere about the things he said?
Nevin says: Don’t believe him son! He forced me to leave. I lied to the police. I told them I wanted to leave.
Fatih: I will give him one last chance, just so I can see what’s on his mind.

    At the Denizer home:
Elif and Asli are together, Asli’s head in Elif’s lap while Elif strokes her head lovingly. Elif is thinking serious thoughts.
Asli: My mother is gone, Taner is gone, I had this baby with me, Elif, but now he’s gone as well. I was trying to be strong.
Elif: Don’t talk about this. Can is here. You have a son. You have hope.
Asli: I cannot be a mother to Can anymore. We’ve come a long way, but the child is unhappier when he’s near me.
Elif: That’s your opinion. No child isn’t happy near his mother. You’ll be OK. We also have Nilufer who’s experiencing the worst days of her life. She has lost all hope. And then, of course, you have me. But I ruined everything. We need someone to show us the way.
Asli: Who is there to help me with this brain of mine? Would you have been happier without me?
Elif: Don’t talk nonsense like this anymore. You have a free spirit. Trust yourself. This is what makes you you. We all love you.
    The two sisters hug.
Asli: Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to myself. I won’t climb out of the windows. You haven’t ruined anything. You’ve done the best you could since dad died. Look at me, you haven’t done anything. I haven’t been there for you in your hard times. I was jealous and useless. How can a sister be like this?
Elif: We are sisters. That’s the salt and pepper in the spice of being sisters, otherwise it would be really boring, right?
Asli: Do you really think so?
    Elif: Yes!
Now Asli is stroking Elif’s hair.
Asli: I’m the guilty person as I lost my baby. Don’t blame anyone for the things that happen in your life because we all get what we deserve.
    They hug again.

Sami walks out of Tayyar’s gate.
Arda and Omer are waiting at the car.
    Sami: He’s not at home.
Omer: He knew that I’d come here first so he took Metin somewhere else.
Sami: You wanted us to come here, son, so what do we do now?
Omer: We’ll ask someone who knows.
Omer strides off, with Arda and Sami trying to hold him back.
Arda: Don’t do this! Calm down a bit.
Omer, to the guard: We forgot something in there.
They go back in. Omer asks a woman servant: Excuse me, I’d like to see Miss Pinar.
Servant: She is sick and isn’t seeing any visitors.
Omer: She’s still sick? She’s been sick so long I’m starting to get worried about her.
Servant: She doesn’t want to see anyone nowadays, but there’s nothing to worry about.
Omer: Well, I’m her friend, so of course she’d want to see me. Omer Demir, tell her that I’m here and I’m not leaving until she comes out.
The servant goes to deliver his message.

    Episode 73 #4

    At the Denizer home:
Elif is in the kitchen, preparing some cake. The table already has cookies on it. Asli and Nilufer are at the table.
Asli asks Nilufer: You knew, too, right?
    Nilufer: Yes.
Asli: Congratulations. You two are really bad. You could be agents.
Nilufer: You can be Valio so you can talk. There will be no inquiry if you’re an agent.
[This seems to refer to a character from a book or film. It doesn’t ring any bells with me, but maybe someone here will know the reference.]
Nilufer laughs at this reference. [It is the first authentic grin I’ve seen on her face in a long time.]
Asli: Just think, if the men gave me a code, I’ll tell the whole world until they come.
All three sisters are laughing at this.
Nilufer reaches for Asli’s hand: It’s right that you’re like this. Everything’s perfect. We were really terrified that something would happen to you.
Asli: Come on, tell me, you were scared that I would do something to myself, right?
No one answers this, but the sisters look at one another in a very caring way.
Now Mert shows up: Good morning beautiful Denizer women.
Asli: Good morning? We’re not in London, Mert, I guess you wanted to say good afternoon.
    The girls laugh at this.
Mert: Let’s get out of the high-tension atmosphere, Nilufer. Even school’s more fun. Come on.
Nilufer: OK, then. We’re leaving, my beautiful sister.
She says this to Asli and kisses her. She says goodbye to Elif as well.
    Nilufer and Mert leave.
Elif to Asli: I haven’t seen her that happy in a long time.
Asli: This Mert is really a [jerk] but he’s good for Nilufer.
    Elif agrees.
On the way out the front door, Nilufer says to Mert: I treated you really badly last night. I’m so sorry.
Mert: It’s OK, Nilufer. You’re right that these things are hard to deal with.
Mert: Do you want to go to a movie after school? There’s a horror movie on and it’s fantastic. Actually, you don’t like horror movies, but still.
    Nilufer: OK, we can go.
    Mert: Are you sure?
Nilufer: Yes, I am sure. I also don’t have an important class today. If you want, we can skip school and go now. I can smell the popcorn already.
Mert: Me too, Nilufer! I didn’t have any breakfast so I can have a large box.
Nilufer: Then let’s make it two!
They walk to the exit, both smiling, like happy young people.
Mert: OK, Supergirl, what a nice morning, isn’t it?
Nilufer: Don’t call it morning, it’s noontime.

    Episode 73 #5

Back inside in the kitchen, Asli is looking for something in the drawers. Elif asks what she is looking for.
Asli: OK, as I’m not pregnant anymore, let me take these pills again. Otherwise, I could become unstable and I don’t want you to have to deal with me.
Elif: You’ve been taking them for a really long time. I mean, since the baby, that is.
Asli makes a face as she realizes that Elif has been giving the pills to her in fruit juice.
Asli: I thought I was having vitamins because I’m pregnant.
    Elif: Exactly.
Asli: What a deceiver you are.
    Elif: It was for your
Asli interrupts: I know sweetie, you did the correct thing.
There is an uncomfortable silence and Elif finally speaks: I want to ask you something.
    Asli: Ask.
Elif: Do you remember at the time of the abortion when Mom was still alive?

FLASHBACK: Fatih is looking at the video showing Asli fatally shoving her mother at the hospital. He is showing it to Elif, stating that: it’s for a documentary of getting to know our family better. Elif then sees the accident and cries out in shock as she sees her mother’s death.

Asli shakes her head: Unfortunately. But I know Zerrin Sultan (her mother) a little and she has done this for two reasons. For me not to have a baby from Taner or my treatment stopped. She was a caring mother but loved to control people’s lives.
    The sisters hug each other.

At Tayyar’s home, by the pool:
Omer, Sami, and Arda are walking in the garden. Omer is talking on the phone to Elvan: OK, Mom, don’t worry, I won’t overwork myself. No, I’ll call Elif from their house and tell them that as well. Don’t worry, I need to hang up now.

    At the Denizer home:
Elif walks out with a cup of coffee to sit overlooking the water.
Hulya brings out the phone. It’s a call from Omer.
Omer is calling from Tayyar’s garden.
    Elif: Omer, are you OK?
Omer: I’m fine, Signorina. You left your phone at our house and my mom keeps calling me to let you know.
Elif: Sighs. I’m aware but I haven’t had a chance to go get it yet.
Omer: No worries. I’ll catch up with you a little bit later.
Elif: Forget about the phone now and talk to me. I was thinking about you. Where are you and what are you doing?
Omer: Remember you’re always on my mind, Signorina. I’m fine, so don’t worry, please.
Elif: Are you free now? I really just need to talk to you.
Omer looks around at Arda and Sami. He is still waiting for Pinar.
Omer: I’m sorry. Not now my love, but I need to tell you this. Fatih is free.
    Elif: What?
Omer: But Signorina, what did you expect if you withdrew the charge?
Elif: OK, but isn’t it too soon? There’s a month until the court appearance.
Omer: But now everything gets accelerated. Fatih will be charged but not arrested.
    Elif: How could this happen?

    Episode 73 #6
Omer: Well, it’s not that strange when you think about it. The court had no charges to press against Fatih, so his file is clear now. We had nothing else against him after you withdrew your complaint. So, now we have nothing and the only thing we can stop him from doing is from leaving the country and going abroad.
    Elif: I can’t believe this.
Omer: Yeah, Elif, I told you to be careful when you made your decision, but you didn’t listen to me and now you’re going to spend sleepless nights worrying about what Fatih might do. (He sees Pinar.) I need to hang up now; I’ll call you later. Don’t worry, I’m fine.
He hangs up and walks to Pinar.
Pinar: Omer, we need to hurry. Tayyar will be back soon.
Omer: I haven’t come to turn your happy world with all its lies upside down, but Tayyar Dundar kidnapped two of my most important witnesses today. Now, if you don’t want me to turn all my eyes on you and put you and your mother in an uncomfortable situation, then tell me where Tayyar took Metin’s mother?
Pinar: What? Who is Metin? I don’t know a person like that.
Omer: Maybe Fatih sounds more familiar?
Pinar: I don’t know Fatih either. Who are these people?
Omer: Then tell me where on earth Tayyar Dundar is hiding.
Pinar suddenly looks very grim: Well, you can ask him yourself. He knows better.
Tayyar walks out into the garden just then.
    Tayyar: Hello, Omer.

    Back at the Denizer patio:
Elif is on the phone making a call, walking back and forth: Oh come on Nilufer, pick up the phone already.
Asli says that Mert is not answering her calls, either.
Elif: What’s going on? Something must have happened.
Asli: OK, calm down, calm down. Maybe their batteries are dead. Don’t panic.
Elif, looking increasingly stressed: I hope that’s the case.

The “missing” kids are at the movies. (Hmmm, are they speaking Turkish during the film or is it the soundtrack of another language?) They have two bags of popcorn that they are playfully sharing. Nilufer is smiling broadly, as is Mert.

    Back at Tayyar’s garden:
Tayyar: I hope you recover soon. I believe you had so many bullets in you that they thought you were probably going to die. So, you’re lucky and you seem well enough now. Well done, you. Congratulations. Unfortunately, you couldn’t finish the job and here I am still on your case.
This interchange is being closely observed by Arda and Sami and, I presume, Pinar.
Tayyar: Come on, will you, I’m doing a job preserving life. I think life is precious, you know. I’m working tirelessly just to help people lead healthy lives. So, why would I ever want you to die?
Omer grins ironically at this: OK, just shut up now. Where’s Fatih?
Tayyar: I thought he was in prison.
Omer: He’s not. We don’t know how it happened. It’s all so mysterious, but he was in court, and then he got released pending trial.
Tayyar snickers at this: You see, again, again I’m seen as a guilty party, but don’t worry, it’s OK, I’m used to it. I’m not angry with you anymore. I’ve really gotten over that now.
Omer: Fatih is missing. His mother is missing as well, as she thought her son had been released, but you know for sure where those two are. So, just tell me, Tayyar Dundar!

    Episode 73 #7
Tayyar: What can I tell you that you haven’t told me? Where Fatih and his mother are? That schizo likes to share his issues with you, not really with me.
Omer: I need to know where they are so tell me now. Tell me!
Arda and Sami approach to calm Omer down.
    Sami: Omer!
Tayyar: Leave him so he can hit me.
Omer backs off a bit: Look, Tayyar Dundar, if you do anything to Fatih, you’ll hear from me. I better find him alive. Just know this, every waking hour of every single day I’ll be working on your case. I’ll not rest until I see you and all your kind in prison.
Tayyar makes a face, while Omer stares at him intently.
Sami, Arda, and Omer walk toward the gate.
    Tayyar’s face is very ominous.

At the police station, Chief Ali is working in his office.
His phone rings. It is Tayyar: Where are you, Ali?
Ali: I’m on duty. What’s happened?
Tayyar: I need you. I don’t know how you’ll convince him, but I need Husseyn in this as well to see that this Omer gets away from me. He’s on to me all the time. I have enough problems. I can’t deal with this bas…. as well. Listen, Ali, I’m starting to get impatient, so listen to me this time.
Ali: What more do you want us to do? Omer has luck on his side. He’s clever. If I tell Husseyn this, he’ll be mad, and there’ll be war between you again.
Tayyar: I’ve thought of another thing.
    Ali: What thing is that?
Tayyar: I’m thinking of killing two birds with one stone. Omer will be dealing with something else. I just reckon I’ll get rid of her and take my revenge at the same time.
Ali: What will Omer’s business be?
Tayyar: Do you know the ties that connect people to each other. They’re really strong when they first connect, but you can break them very easily when they’re alone and not connected. Let us break this bond. Then I can relax. I’m telling you Elif, Ali. We’ll be dealing with Elif and then with Omer.

    At the Denizer home:
Elif is stirring a pot of tomato sauce and thinking deeply.
Asli arrives to tell her the table is ready.
She finds Elif lost in thought.
    Asli: Elif.
    Elif: Did you say something?
Asli: Don’t worry for no reason. Mert is with her. He’s so in love with our girl that he would do anything for her.
    Elif smiles a little.
Asli: Both of their phones are turned off, not just Nilufer’s. These two are either in class or they’ve gone to a movie.
    The doorbell chimes.
Elif asks Asli to stir while she gets the door in case it’s Omer.
    It IS Omer!
Elif: Is there any good news? Have you found Nilufer?
Omer: They haven’t been in school today. A friend of theirs did call and they told her they were going to see a movie.
Elif sighs: That’s a relief! You’re standing outside. Come on in.
Omer smiles at Asli, who reciprocates.
Asli: Listen, I told you, bingo! I have news. Mert is making Nilufer sit through two movies in order to have more alone time with her.

    Elif: Asli, the sauce!
Asli: Oh, Elif! I forgot about it. Elif, do you think I can make some quickly?
Elif: Something’s burning. Can you go and have a look?
Asli: Don’t panic. It’s ready. [Good one there, Asli!]
    Omer smiles.
Asli: I can’t believe how gullible you are!
Omer also compliments her: Asli, nice act!
Elif: Ha ha ha ha. Very funny.
Asli: I’m really bored. You deal with the things left behind. See you, Columbo!
Asli heads to her room, conveniently leaving Omer and Elif.
    Omer: She seems happy!
Elif, who looks like she’s about to cry: Let’s say she’s trying hard to be.
    Omer: Why?
Elif: Because her heart really broke today. I told her that she’s not pregnant.
Asli’s room is full of the baby things she bought. She is sitting on her bed looking at all these reminders. She is placing them in a suitcase. She hugs a teddy bear and lies down, crying.
Back downstairs, Elif is still lost in thought.
    Omer: Are you OK?
Elif: I’m thinking about Asli. I wonder if she’ll get over this.
Omer: She’ll get over it, but she needs time. She just has to go through it, even if it’s hard.
He hugs Elif, then they kiss.
    Elif: You surprise me officer.
Omer: Why? Can’t I kiss you to show you my love?
Elif: No, I mean you lost Metin because of me. I thought you’d want to know the full story. And then we had the accident because of me. We had to spend time at the hospital and that got in the way of work.
Omer: We made our decision, Signorina.
Elif: Remind me, what was that?
Omer: Love and work are two separate things. I, Office Omer, left my jacket at the door and now I’m here as Lover Omer.
Elif: Oh, are you sure? Won’t that be difficult for you?
Omer: It won’t. Don’t worry. Hey I’m strong.
Elif finally smiles. She hugs him and he winces as he is still recovering.
    Elif: Does it hurt?
Omer: Yeah, I’m fine. You know everything would be better if you stop trying to pretend you’re my nurse.
Elif: Don’t you like Nurse Elif?
Omer: I love all of you, especially this innocent sincere version.
    Another kiss.

    Episode 73 #9

Back at police station, Arda strides into the common area.
Halit comes down the inner stairs with an envelope: Officer Arda!
Arda: Don’t tell me that there is a problem. I’m leaving. I have an appointment.
Halit: That’s not it. I wanted to ask if you would give this to Officer Pelin. This envelope came for her the other day. She was not in then, and I completely forgot to give this to her.
Arda: What’s this? (The envelope has all sorts of official signatures on it.)
Halit: It could be a notification or something of great importance.
Arda: No, no. They must have subpoenaed her as a witness somewhere. I’ll give it to her.
    Halit: Have fun, officer!
Arda walks out of the building. Pelin is waiting for him: Where have you been? I’ve been waiting for you.
Arda: What happened, Pelo? Why didn’t you come in? It’s not forbidden or anything. You just got suspended.
    Pelin: I won’t do it.
    Arda: Why not?
Pelin: I don’t know, probably because they’re talking about me. Please tell me what they are saying about me. Do they really think I’m an informant?
Arda: Oh, come on now! Don’t be silly. Who would say something like that? And, whoever does, has a good laugh and leaves it at that.
Pelin: Is Husseyn in there? I really don’t want to create any further trouble. We could meet outside. I don’t want things to go bad for you as well.
Arda: OK, Pelin, you are really becoming paranoid. This morning you were fine. Please tell me what has happened to you since then?
Pelin: Come on, Arda, how would you feel if you were me?
Arda: OK, OK, don’t be sensitive. By the way, this is for you. Halit gave it to me. I think they want you as a witness to a case.
Pelin: What case? (She draws out several official-looking pages from the envelope.)
    Arda: And, what is it?
Peli: What’s this? You want to know what this is. I’ll tell you what this is. This is enough to break up a family.
Arda: Oh, no! Who’s implicating you now?
Pelin: Your wife, Ciden. She’s suing me, accusing me of causing the breakdown of your relationship. I’m the reason for your divorce. This is a file with your divorce file.
Arda and Pelin look at one another, stunned.

    Thanks Babachita! Excellent as always!

It was an interesting and almost peaceful episode... hard to believe that Fatih would buy Tayyar's lies for even a minute but maybe a part of him wants to believe daddy could love him.

Speaking of hard to buy.... I'm not sure I believe Asli when she says she doesn't remember what happened with mom and the abortion. Maybe she doesn't but her face doesn't convince me. Then again that's kind of par for the course with Asli her face and her words not matching... still I've always wondered if she was faking her amnesia. I don't think I'd even blame her if she did.

I'm guessing Mert and Nilu are okay since Fatih hasn't left the house, but I guess we'll see.

    Darcy,

Your idea that Asli might remember is fascinating. She is very smart and it would be a way to protect herself. I find Asli fascinating. We have certainly gotten to know these sisters well. They are so different, but I love how they care about one another.

Fatih has been on an emotional roller coaster all his life. Tayyar is so creepy as he tries to convince his victims that he has changed. All he wants is Fatih’s kidney!

Thanks for the excellent recap, Babachita.

I take Asli's "amnesia" as a defense mechanism.

The movie Nilu and Mert watched was in Turkish.

The sisters' convo in the kitchen from the Turkish:

Asli: Yes, wow, bravo. You're really something. You'd make a great spy.

Nilu: You talk too much though; if you were in intelligence, there wouldn't be any secrets left.

Asli: That's true, just imagine if they gave me a code. I'd announce it to the whole world before I even got home.

    #74 part 1

Nilufer complains to Mert. He made her sit through 3 movies and 2 of them were in 3D. Her eyes are trying to adjust, and she loses her balance. They walk arm in arm out of the theater and down the escalator. And we see that Fatih is lurking.

Elif brings Omer a cup of coffee, something flavored she thought he would like. He asks if he should start with Turkish coffee instead. She reminds him he promised he would try to like coffee. Okay, signorina, we keep our word, he replies. He takes a sip and immediately makes a face. He covers his mouth. Don’t you like it, she asks, I can make you another one. She gets up and he grabs her arm. I liked it, he says, I’m just joking. She says she will get revenge for this. He smiles and tells her to take it.

They are about to kiss, when the doorbell rings. Elif hopes it’s Nilu. She hurries to answer. It’s Huseyin with other officers from the Financial Crimes unit. He’s only there for support. They need to take Elif to the station. The prosecutor has questions. Omer grabs the warrant from Huseyin. He says this is ridiculous. Huseyin says they have to do their jobs.

Omer tells Elif not to go anywhere. He wants to call Sami. An officer warns Omer they have a warrant for Elif’s arrest and he’s obstructing. Huseyin explains that Sami is no longer on the case. The DA is conducting an investigation on him too. Omer confronts the cop. Elif tries to calm him down. Words are exchanged and Omer headbutts the guy, knocking him down.

Pelin starts walking with Arda following. Your silence is killing me, he says, say something. Shout, swear, don’t stay silent. Tell me what we have is real. Tell me you don’t care about this ridiculous lawsuit. She replies, I’m going home. He takes her hand, don’t build a wall between us. What I feel is real. As real as a newborn, the flowers blooming in the spring. You can’t deny their existence and you can’t deny what we have. Don’t let Cigdem break us up. Teary Pelin wants to talk later. She removes her hand from his and goes.

Omer tells Huseyin he will speak with the DA. He thought Sami had straightened everything out. How did this happen? It’s Tayyar’s doing. Asli pipes up, this is ridiculous, I’m not letting her go anywhere.

Huseyin says Omer is right but there is a warrant and he’s preventing an officer from doing his job. Think of Elif, she will be the one in trouble because of you. Elif says she doesn’t want to be trouble. She’ll go and sort this out. Elif grabs a coat and asks Asli to call their lawyer.

Asli starts shouting, why don’t you get the guy who started this? Metin is walking free! Elif tells Asli she is now responsible for Nilufer and the company. Asli threatens to sue and contact the media. Other officers hand Asli a search warrant and they enter the house. Omer won’t let the arresting officer touch Elif. He puts his arm around her. I’m not going to leave you alone for a second, he tells her.

Nilu and Mert walk to their car. He wants to go out to eat. She just wants to go home. She wins. Mert gets in the driver’s side. Nilu spots Fatih lurking in the shadows across the street. Mert calls out, let’s go. She gets in but she’s shaken. He asks what happened. Did you see someone? Nobody, she answers. But Mert figures it’s Fatih. Mert wants to get out of the car. She stops him. She just wants to go. Mert and Nilu get out. He looks around but doesn’t see anyone.

    #74 part 2

Tayyar is in a car and he calls his henchie to find out what Fatih is up to. The henchie reports that Fatih followed Mert for a while but didn’t confront him. Tayyar asks about Nevin. She’s at the farmhouse. Nothing going on there. Tayyar says don’t lose sight of Fatih and don’t let him know your following him.

Tayyar meets up with Ali. He’s in a good mood. Yours (Huseyin) has started to listen and went himself to pick up Elif from her house. Tayyar is pleased but then his expression changes.

Nilu talks Mert into getting back in the car. He starts to drive but Fatih walks out into the middle of the street. Mert accelerates and it looks like he’s going to run Fatih down. Nilu pulls the emergency brake. Are you crazy, she shouts.

Fatih knocks on Nilu’s window. She rolls it down. He tells her we have to talk, beautiful girl. Mert doesn’t want her to get out. Don’t keep me waiting in the middle of the street, Fatih says. Nilu hesitates for a moment, then tells Mert that nothing will happen. Just wait and don’t interfere.

Fatih gets close to Nilu. She asks, what are you doing? He says he just wanted to see her. She replies, like this? You just apologized to me earlier today. Did you forget? He just stares at her. You’re scaring me, she says. Mert is trying to keep himself in check. He calls out, Nilu, we have to go home! I’m coming, she answers. You can’t go, Fatih says, I haven’t finished talking yet. I can’t get enough of you.

Mert shouts for Nilu again. Fatih looks through the window. Who do you think you’re talking to? If you have something to say, come here and say it to me. Mert gets out of the car and faces his half-brother. You really want to fight, Fatih says. Yes, I want to fight, Mert replies, are you afraid? Fatih gives a couple of hard pats to Mert’s chest and then pushes him away. Mert comes rushing back to fight. Nilu steps in between. Stop! You’re brothers! If you go after each other again I swear I’ll leave and neither of you will see my face again! The brothers stare each other down.

Ali tells Tayyar he’ll handle Huseyin. I’ll bring you both back together. Tayyar says let him vent his anger. He knows what he must do. He’ll come crawling back anyway. Ali warns, if this continues, it will become more unpleasant. Huseyin’s mind is on the edge. If he catches fire, no one can stop him. He’s wild when he’s angry.

Tayyar knows. He says to leave Huseyin out of it for now. Concentrate on Elif. She must stop seeing Omer. We’ll tie Omer’s hands and feet, too. Sami and Omer won’t even be able to breathe. Ali says this is above his level. Tayyar says he’s made some calls to the guys at the top. Just keep an eye on them. He says that Elif has surprised him with her strength. But we will see if she can handle this.

Elif enters the station. Omer and Huseyin are following. Sami is already there. He shakes his head as Omer walks past. Before Elif enters the interrogation room, Omer calls out to wait. She asks, you’re not leaving, are you? I’m with you, signorina, Omer replies, we’ll give our statements and then we’ll go. You’ll be out by the morning latest. He whispers in her ear, then I’ll take your hand and we’ll get out of Istanbul. A vacation, she asks. He says, to a place no one will find us. She adds, just the two of us. Just you and me, he says. The cop says they have to go. Omer assures Elif he’s not going anywhere. Don’t be afraid. Omer puts on a smiling face for Elif’s benefit.

Huseyin tells his bro, I don’t know where this trouble came from all of a sudden. Poor girl. Omer says he’ll find out who’s responsible for this. Huseyin cautions him to be careful and calm down. He volunteers to get some information for Omer.

    #74 part 3

Omer questions Sami. He thought this was over. Elif wasn’t going to be accused of anything. Sami thought so too. She wasn’t supposed to be implicated in this, other than saying she helped. Sami adds, I’m also being charged by the DA. They’re investigation every little thing. They’re waiting to find a mistake. I’ll tell you, there’s something serious going on.

Omer laughs. I don’t have to tell you who’s pulling the strings around here. It’s obvious. Sami nods. He says, I hope the DA won’t press charges against Elif for participating. You know that will mean 72 hours of custody. And then it will go on from there. I’m afraid they will blame this girl for everything. Omer says that Elif is innocent. She’s a victim. I’ll save her.

Mert stands by the car while Fatih and Nilu continue their convo. He says it’s hard to have her so close but he can’t touch her, hold her. Nilu answers she shouldn’t be seeing him. This is too much. I have to go, she says. She starts walking and he grabs her arm. I’m not done talking. Mert is watching like a hawk.

Nilu says she’s tired of fighting. He didn’t provide her with a place hide or anything to hold on to. It’s difficult. It’s impossible. Fatih tells her, we make the impossible, possible. We started this relationship, if it’s going to end, we’re going to end it. Don’t give me the words of others. I need to go, Nilu says. Okay, he replies, but I ask you to think about us. Because I think of us. Whenever my heart beats, I think of you. Every time I breathe, I think of you. Maybe it’s an obsession, but that’s how it is.

Fatih gives her his home phone number. She takes it. He wants to give her a ride. She says she’ll go with Mert. He objects. She says she’ll rip up his number and end everything. Please leave me alone. If you love me as much as you say, don’t interfere in my life. Nilu heads for the car. Mert smirks at Fatih.

Fatih has some parting words for Mert. We should hang out sometime. I’m going fishing with Dad tomorrow. Do you have a message for him? Are you still not talking? I’ll reconcile you. Mert smiles and gets in the car. We see Nevzat lurking and following Fatih.

Arda confronts Cigdem. She asks, what’s wrong? Did your girlfriend break up with you? Arda demands that she withdraw the charges and apologize to Pelin. Our decision to divorce had nothing to do with her. Okay, Cigdem replies, if she had nothing to do with it, the case will be closed. What’s the problem? Arda asks her to be fair for once. You killed my love for you. You’re the reason this marriage ended, not Pelin.

You’re the one who cheated, Cigdem fires back. Arda denies cheating. She claims he did it right in front of her. You brought your girlfriend, as a friend, inside our apartment! I can’t count how many times I’ve prepared a bed for her! We are not lovers, Arda says, and we have never been lovers. Cigdem asks, so, you’re not in love with her? Arda doesn’t know what to say for a second but then admits—I am. I’m in love with her.

A phone call interrupts. It’s Pelin calling Arda. Cigdem says, take your girlfriend’s call. Go ahead. Cigdem starts yelling so Pelin can hear—I’ll never withdraw the charges! A person who destroys a marriage doesn’t deserve to have one! I’m not going to leave the two of you in peace. Arda tries to listen to Pelin. She tells him that Elif has been arrested. Come right away.

Elif has given her statement, and she tells Omer that she’s not afraid. The arresting cop, the one Omer headbutted, tells Omer that he shouldn’t be speaking with Elif because he will need to give a statement as well. It gets heated and Elif asks Omer to stay calm. Let’s do what they want, she says.

    #74 part 4

Sami motions to the cop to back away and give Elmer some time to talk. Take care of yourself, Elif says, don’t neglect your arm, don’t forget to take your medication. The doctor scared me a little about your arm. Please don’t move it and don’t forget to use the sling. Your health is more important than anything else. Omer answers her in Italian—nothing is more important than you, signorina. She answers back in Italian—I love you, komiser. Wait for me. She adds, if you don’t book our vacation, we will have a problem. He asks, where do you want to go? It doesn't matter, she replies.

The arresting cop interrupts because he hears them speaking in Italian. Omer tells him they are not speaking about the case. Sami steps in to calm Omer. Elif leaves with the cop.

Omer is frustrated and angry. He shouts at Sami, which DA is it? I need to speak with him right away! Sami says that’s not a good idea. I can’t sit here and wait, Omer declares. Sami says, think, please think about me, too. When this guy learns about your relationship with Elif, what’s going to happen? What will it look like? I’m in this for you, because I believe in you. I’ve trusted you, but your behavior and actions affect me, too. Stop when I tell you to stop, please!

The men take a moment to calm down. Sami continues, okay, Omer, you’re right. Elif is a victim. But your outbursts don’t do anyone any good. You think that only you and Elif are in the line of fire? Son, I’m in the line of fire, too. Omer looks pained.

Nilu and Mert arrive home. He asks, what did that idiot give you? You’re not going to meet that bastard, are you? Watch your words, Mert, Nilu replies, no matter what, Fatih is my husband. You’ve mixed up right and wrong, he answers, you can’t hide behind me anymore. If you start seeing him, I’ll tell Asli and Elif. It will be for your own good. You’re all the same, Nilu accuses, you, Fatih, my sisters. All of you just think of yourselves, none of you think of me. Stop dragging me around like this. Mert walks away.

Nilu enters the house and sees the cops conducting the search. Hulya tells her what’s happening. The police took Elif. Asli is upstairs. Asli argues with cops about taking items from the house. What are you looking for?! You’ve destroyed the peace and these are our mementos. Leave them!

Elif is locked in a dark and dingy cell that seems to be isolated from everything. She’s told she’s to wait there until the DA calls for her. She looks around. It’s filthy, there are leaks. She covers her mouth and nose. She gags. She sits on the cold, hard bench.

Omer asks a cop if Elif is with the DA. No, she isn’t. Omer says, call and ask. The cop points and says, he’s coming, ask him yourself. It’s the arresting cop. Omer demands to know where Elif is. Where did you take her? Who are you, the cop replies, you’re just an officer on sick leave for 3 months. Look, Omer answers, I’m asking you as a human being, answer like a man. Where is Elif? The DA thinks there’s something shady about this case, the cop says, I don’t have to explain to you. Get out of my way. I have things to do.

Omer grabs the guy by the collar. I’m just asking if the woman I love is okay. I can’t give you that information, the cop replies. Omer is ready to slug the guy but Sami steps in. He sends the cop away. Sami scolds Omer and says, the DA has called me, I’m going to see him now. Please stay calm. I don’t want to think about what’s happening outside. Understood? Omer says he understands. Sami enters the DA’s office.

    And we are out.

Thanks, Dondi! Wonderful recap of a very interesting episode!!

Although I'm glad that Tayyar's going after Elif ended up being legally and not by going after her physically, but I find this particular turn of events a little beanie inducing.... I mean if Tayyar had enough pull to get Elif arrested and Sami under investigation overnight how did Fatih end up in custody for even one day? It seems like a way too big swing of the pendulum in way too short of time...

I was thinking when Fatih and Mert were standing toe to toe that the brothers really do look alike. I don't remember thinking that before, not sure if wardrobe is doing something different to bring out the similarities or if they just haven't been that close up that often but it stood out this time. It's also a nice but still sort of creepy surprise that Fatih was just a talkative stalker and not violent this time! lol

The previous episode was nice and calm. This was different! It’s frustrating to see how much of a reach Tayyar has.

They did make the brothers look more alike.

Elif’s cell is creepy. I hope they can get her out soon. She’s such a fighter that it makes me sad that she is discouraged. But who wouldn’t be?

Asli doesn’t just roll over when the cops were taking stuff. She has a backbone!

Omer needs to be careful not to overreact. Getting Elif out is paramount. Fingers crossed!

Tayyar is on the phone with Fatih’s shadow saying job well done when Pinar enters. Tayyar called for her and she seems reluctant to enter – bet she’s wishing she had let him bleed out. Turns out Tayyar wants to talk about why Pinar let him live too! He suggests it’s because she doesn’t want to leave her child without its father or because she’s attracted to his power and doesn’t want to live without him! Tayyar pulls out a gift box for Pinar and hands it to her. He tells her he thought about buying her a dress but she gets bigger every day!! LOL Not to worry though every day she gets more beautiful! Pinar seems to genuinely like the ring and Tayyar asks for a thank you kiss and Pinar kisses his cheek but Tayyar pulls her close and says: ‘I never had a decent son (?) but I still have hope. I hope it’s a son to compensate me!’ Pinar says it is a boy, the doctor told her 15 days ago. Tayyar hugs her, Pinar looks again at the ring.

Pelo, Arda and Huseyin show up at the station and ask what’s going on. Omer fills them in and laments that Elif must be in a cell cold and hungry. Pelo volunteers to take care of Elif and bring her everything she needs. They will still give her access. Omer asks her to please bring Elif some bake goods it always makes her feel better. Anything specific, Pelo asks. Omer says something with chocolate. Pelo leaves and the boys start talking about the case. Arda and Omer are worried because this is clearly a set up but Huseyin tries to downplay it saying Elif will surely be released in the morning. Huseyin even tries to encourage Omer to go home and get some rest since he’s still recovering and Elif wouldn’t want to see him like this, but of course Omer is going nowhere.

Pelo returns and it’s a no go. There’s something weird going on. The normal person who should be on duty isn’t and the new person downstairs wouldn’t let her in to see Elif. They wouldn’t even hear Pelo out. There’s nothing they can do and they can’t get anything in to Elif. Pelo says there’s something else weird – they put Elif in the other side, in an area that is never used. What, Omer reacts, why would they do that? Pelo doesn’t know but they did. Huseyin is looking quietly concerned. Arda says it’s obvious what’s going on. They arrest her, isolate her, keep her here all day but don’t talk to her until morning – it’s psychological warfare! Huseyin starts in on Arda for voicing more of his conspiracy theories but Omer jumps in and says it IS obvious. They suspend me and then go after Senor Sami and Elif! But they won’t get away with it, they aren’t going to hurt Senor Sami or my girlfriend! Who is the fiscal?

Sami is being questioned by said fiscal and he is taking full responsibility for the operation. The fiscal questions whether or not Omer is trustworthy but Sami says he is responsible for Omer too.

Elif is alone in a cell with dripping water and a rat… no light, I’d say Arda had the psychological torture card right! She screams when she sees the rat and cries out for Omer. Omer meanwhile is pacing and playing with his lighter. We also see Nilu and Asli cleaning up after the search party and crying over the broken picture of their parents. Arda and Pelo back at home working and Arda tries to hold her hand but she pulls away. Sami finally leaves interrogation. Mert putting a blanket over a sleeping Nilu and running a hand over her hair – she’s still wearing her amulet. Fatih also playing with his Amulet, he puts it back on. Elif in the cell again and Omer trying to get access while the arresting officers, smirk at him as he finds himself barred behind a locked door.

The next morning, Omer is writing a letter to Elif telling her these are the worst days of their lives. He realizes they’ve never really been happy since they met because they’ve always had so many problems yet he still feels so happy every time he looks at her. His only regret is ever questioning her whenever he had the opportunity to take her hands. But there is still hope, and what he wants to know now is will she marry him? Come on Signorina, tell me yes! The day that you leave here we will get married! Omer folds up the letter and slyly hands it to a young officer while greeting him.

I guess Sami wasn’t done with the fiscal because he’s coming out of the Fiscal’s office again this morning, so maybe it was just a break the night before? The fiscal is leaving too and he tells those nearby that he’s going home until mid-day. Omer asks what about Elif but the fiscal says she has to wait her turn like everyone else. Omer turns to Sami but Sami preempts his rant and says the fiscal knows everything! He knows about your relationship with Elif and he went to Elif’s office and found some paperwork that contained proof of her money laundering, this isn’t good. Omer wants to know what they are going to do but Sami doesn’t know, he is going to his office for now. He looks like they are going to be pressing charges against him too he’s going to see what he can still do before they remove him from the case.

Asli and Nilu are eating breakfast and Mert comes to let him know he scared off the reporters and Asli says thank you. Mert asks how they are but he’s looking at Nilu. Nilu isn’t good, she’s worried about Elif. Asli adds not even Omer can see her. Nilu says she will never forgive her father for this! It’s his fault! And your father’s too, she says looking at Mert. Something else occurs to Nilu and she says, ‘Oh, my god all the men in my life have lied to me and disappointed me, they’ve all betrayed me! All of them!’ Nilu throws her coffee cup and collapses to the ground crying. Asli runs over and tells her sister to control yourself and not cry! This won’t help Elif! Nilu is so tired, she’s sick of this but Asli tries to give her some tough love and tells her to stay strong. Nilu doesn’t know what they can do and Asli says she will call Sebnem, she’s their lawyer for a reason. Asli calls and asks Sebnem if she’s at the station and she says no. She went that morning but Elif hadn’t seen the fiscal yet, and they didn’t let her see Elif. They have a bunch of documents and they also have some anonymous witness… dun dun dun. She will tell Asli more when she knows more. Asli hangs up and down plays the bad news for Nilu, which is exactly what she always tells Elif not to do.

In case none of us remembered that Sebnem was a former Tayyar scholarship recipient, we get a reminder when we see Tayyar is sitting in her office once she hangs up from Asli. Tayyar says well done and Sebnem says she only told her what happened but Tayyar makes it clear to viewerville that our lady lawyer knows exactly what he is up to. Tayyar has been playing with Elif up to now but he’s bored now, he’s ready for the death blow. He hands over Elif’s ‘confession’ and says it needs to be signed! It’s the only way to get rid of Omer and Elif. Sebnem doesn’t look happy with her participation but it’s probably a safe bet that Tayyar has her over a barrel somehow.

Nilu is looking through her room for Fatih’s number and Mert she’s her and confronts her. She admits she’s looking for his number and he says she just can’t get him out of head, can she? Nilu says it’s not about that! He is the anonymous witness, I know it!!! But I can’t find it anywhere! Mert admits that he threw the paper away and Nilu is beside herself how is she supposed to save her sister now?

Pelo and Arda are still at it and they can’t find a way to save Elif as everything is against her. Arda thinks at least they can have breakfast, a romantic breakfast!!! Pelo gives Arda a hard time about picking the flowers they planted in his garden but he says it’s justified for a romantic moment like this. Pelo seems more open than the last couple days and they flirt and even kiss but when Arda tries to go in for kiss #2 Pelo pulls back saying they can’t. She has to testify in the court case of his ex-wife about their friendship this isn’t the right time! Arda says Pelo is a coward! He’s in love with her and he knows she feels something but she’s too afraid to fight for it! Look at Omer and Elif, all they have is problems and yet they fight for their love. Arda and Pelo don’t have any problems; the only problem they have in their relationship is Pelo!!! Arda says he could pursue Pelo forever and not get tired but right now he feels very discouraged. He gets up and leaves. Pelo is fighting back tears but she doesn’t stop him.

The same officer Omer gave the note to earlier comes across Omer in the hall and it seems he was able to see Elif. He gives Omer to hard news that Elif looked very upset and like she hadn’t gotten much sleep. Further bad news, he wasn’t able to give Elif the note. He got caught trying to pass it and the boss down there took it. The fiscal arrives and the officer plays it off like he’s yelling at Omer and walks off. Omer approaches the fiscal and introduces himself saying he needs to talk to him.

Ah, Behar is alive! LOL Haven’t seen her in a minute but she’s being hounded by press wanting to know about Elif. She says nothing and enters the office finding Levent addressing the employees. She confronts him about his attempt to paint a smile on their doom, but Levant thinks they will be okay. Behar thinks their reputation is shot and they are going down. They argue about what to tell the press but in the end, Levent goes outside and tells the gathered reporters that the whole company is 100% behind Elif and believes in her innocence.

Tayyar shows up to see Fatih, and he wants to know what is going on with Elif. Tayyar says he is teaching Elif a lesson for what she’s done. Fatih asks if he’s doing it for him and Tayyar agrees (yeah right). He asks Nadem for a glass of water, but Fatih says that his mom isn’t Tayyar’s servant and he can go get it himself. Nadem intervenes and says it’s okay I’ll get it, no problem. After she leaves, Tayyar says Elif has no hope of a future! She is going to pay for what Ahmed Denizer did in the past and she’s going to leave us in peace! And what about Omer, Fatih wonders, he won’t just sit back and let this happen. Tayyar is going to ruin Omer too, he’s got it all worked out. Elif will spend her life behind bars, no one can save her. Nadem returns with the water and Tayyar turns again to his son, are you ready to go fishing? I hadn’t even noticed he had a fishing pole with him. Fatih pauses and exchanges a look with mom, but ultimately, he agrees to go.

Omer’s family is at home, and the ladies are having tea; they go to change the channel and find the news about Elif!!! I bet that makes Fatima happy! It does, that horrible woman starts mouthing off at her first opportunity even though she has no room to talk!! Melike and Elvan head to the police station to support Elif.

Omer enters the fiscal’s office; he was apparently called even though the fiscal doesn’t seem particularly interested in him. The fiscal starts asking Omer about his history with Elif and Omer starts to tell the story but the fiscal is quick to tell Omer that the ‘anonymous witness’(AW) says otherwise. The AW says Elif has been laundering money since the very beginning plus they have video of her doing it – must be the video that Fatih had. Omer wants to know who the AW is, but of course they aren’t going to tell him that! The interview is interrupted by a phone call and the fiscal says he has to take the call; they need a 5-minute break. Omer is told to wait outside but he leaves the door cracked open and can hear the fiscal’s conversation. It’s clear the guy is talking to his wife and he keeps saying things like don’t worry, only 5 more days and she’ll be alright. Omer has been down this road and he recognizes the signs and as he’s called back into the room, he notices the masks and starts seeing more signs… does this fiscal have a sick child?
