A.MAR #44 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . .
ReplyDeleteI thought the cello solo that is played here in dramatic scenes sounded familiar. It was also used in "Vencer el desamor".
GABRIEL GOES ROUND THE BEND
Brisa is with Gabriel at his place when Sergio's lawyer arrives to discuss his adoption case. The lawyer first asks Gabriel to sign some papers for his loan with Sergio. She then answers questions Gabriel has on the adoption process Brisa cannot shut up. The lawyer informs him that he is going to ahve to prove that he is a good father and that Iker would not be better off living with another family. The judge is strict but fair. That being said he has a hard road ahead Gabriel wonders how much Iker's opinion counts. He would like only 5 minutes to talk to his son to help the situation. The lawyer is aware fo the situation says they cannot force Iker to talk to him. They cannot allow emotions to rule and they need to be disciplined.
The lawyer uses his bathroom and in the meantime, Brisa goes through her briefcase and finds out who Iker is living with and the address. Gabriel and she go to the house and Iker is playing alone in the yard. Before he can call out to him, Francisca, the mother, comes out to get Iker to come in to eat. After she sends him in, she sees Gabriel trying to hide and tells him that he knows better than to show up there. He expresses his desperation in having been separated from his child. She says she will have to report this transgression to the social worker. He begs her not to report him.
When he arrives home, still with Brisa, Marina has set out a nice meal for Gabriel and her. She is surprised to see them together. He says that he saw Iker from afar but that Francisca saw him. Marina concludes that that idea, of course!!, must have been Brisa's. She asks him how cannot he understand that trying to visit Iker could make him lose in court. Marina tells Brisa to leave. Brisa tells him not to trust Marina. Gabriel doesn't want to hear anything Marina has to say. She is certain that Brisa is capable of dragging him into any of her stupidities like this one. He responds saying that she has NO idea of what it is like to have your child snatched away because she is not a mother. She reminds him that she knows she is a mother. That goes right over his head because he thinks that she was the one who made the anonymous call that got him into this mess to begin with. He thinks he should have grabbed his son and left town like he wanted to do before talking to HER. Marina thinks it all sounds like Brisa but is glad she saw his true feelings and leaves. She goes to the beach where she bemoans the fact that she still doesn't know who she is and relives being in the ocean
A.MAR Part 2
ReplyDeleteSERGIO
Sergio gets applause and adoration from the fishermen and their families in the town after he announces the bonuses. Azul hangs on him enjoying it all. He is a super hero!!! Fabián tells Estrella that he thinks that Sergio has ulterior motives. She agrees.
Estrella confronts Sergio on the bonuses wondering what he is going to get from giving them out. She knows with him there is always another angle he benefits from. He answers it is all about empathy. Why should he not help the fishermen if he can? He insists he is not the same lout he was ten years ago. He is a better person now and wants to be that for Azul. Estrella remarks that he always thought he could solve everything with money. Sergio doesn't understand why she cannot accept that he has changed. She warns him that if he hurts Azul, he will never see her again. Sergio explains that he is going to prove he has changed by his actions. He was drifting after his novia and their child died and Azul has helped him to center himself. Because of that, he wants to give Azul his last name. Estrella asks if he is serious because that will mean confronting his father who has been a difficult and cruel man. Sergio insists he is going to do what he needs to and asks her to consider who he is now and not who he was ten years ago. He kisses Azul's photo and leaves.
Sergio's plan to ruin Fabián is well underway. HIs lawyer had Gabriel sign forms for what was a supposed loan for him to pursue the adoption of Iker. She tells Sergio that Gabriel was so desperate that he never read the forms which will put Fabián's business in jeopardy. Sergio smiles with satisfaction.
YAZMIN
Yazmín and Oliver are kissing in a corner of the restaurant. he still want to talk to her father. She still wants to enjoy their hidden love. Well, it is not hidden much longer because Fabián sees them. He tells his daughter that he doesn't want her with Oliver. Oliver tries to stick up for himself but Fabián writes him off because of how careless he was taking Yazmín on the boat. Yazmín tells her father that he can say what he wants but she is not going to stop going out with Oliver. it is her concern, not his.
He tells Estrella about the incident and she can only smile. She knows that no boy is ever going to be good enough for his daughter. She understands that he thinks Oliver put his daughter in danger. She reminds him that they have all made stupid decisions when they were young. He has to respect Yazmín's decision. All Fabián can say is that Oliver better not make his daughter cry.
PERLA
Perla is still looking like she is in pain anytime she is with Pascual who is all over her. Oliver tells her how he loves Yazmín and how he feels butterflies anytime he is with her. Perla has to admit she feels loved and protected by Pascual but no butterflies but she is ready to settle for that. Oliver would hate to see a life with no butterflies and decides he has something she needs to know.

ReplyDeleteJarifa, thank you for your excellent recap. A frustrating night that you captured with your usual flair and wisdom.
This episode was rife with scenes where galan #2 deserved a good slap and a sharply uttered “snap out of it.”
“Gabriel doesn't want to hear anything Marina has to say…She reminds him that she knows she is a mother. That goes right over his head because he thinks that she was the one who made the anonymous call that got him into this mess to begin with”. Your translating this important conversation is so appreciated! OMG. I could hardly believe what I was reading! How on earth could Gabriel sadly and inexplicably chose to believe evil forked tongued Brisa’s lies rather than the wise words and warning of the woman who loves him? Brisa’s dogged determination has put Gabriel’s custody pursuit in grave jeopardy as well as parting him from sensible, logical Marina. All that as well as affixing his John Hancock to Sergio’s papers that he didn’t even bother to read. What a huge disappointment he has turned out to be!
I was struggling with trying to figure out why Yaz thought Fabian wouldn’t like Oliver. I had forgotten about the little boating excursion without gas or radio. Oops…
Sergio wants to give Azul his last name. How touching. He is moving in for the kill and mercifully, Estrella is one step ahead of him and isn’t giving an inch. I loved Meche, hand on her hip in the background watching Sergio with an expression of amusement and distaste.
I thought the bar scene was kind of cute. Matilde arm around Valentin with a smitten Pascual next to Perla smiling away. That ecstasy was in sharp contrast to Valentin and Perla, looking like they were in agony as a concerned Oliver (wearing an inexplicable stingray t-shirt) took it all in. 😊
I'll have to listen for the cello...(there is nothing that escapes your eagle eye!) Thank you oh so much Jarifa.

Karsu
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun episode! Well, up until the last bit.
I agreed with Filiz that they should wait to tell Irmak. Also – Wednesday I wondered why Adnan confessed. He could have just stayed silent no problem.
Reha was in full bloom, telling Kande what an important man he was and saying she was putting on a scene. She needed to understand that his behavior was normal for a fabulous important businessman. And then his scene with Adnan where he gloated that bringing Kande along to Istanbul was a great move to get Karsu back. How could Karsu resist a prize like him after all! Look at her giving herself such a huge glow-up just to get him back! Poor Adnan trying to get through to him to not shout so much when he was around Karsu. That fell on deaf ears.
I loved the performance by the Attila actor when he was in the bookstore. I suspected their meeting wouldn’t work – Karsu would stand him up or the rival mafiosi would find him and he wouldn’t be there.
So there’s Karsu putting on way too much lipstick. All that overdone red! She has lovely full lips, she doesn’t need to paint outside her lip line. And why did she dress up just to stand him up? Meantime, Attila looked terrific in black.
Hassan’s trick to get Filiz to come to his house was great fun. But Filiz! Don’t get in a car with a stranger, for heaven’s sake. Hassan could have just driven down the road to get Omer and then driven them all to get gas. I did wonder how they were supposedly far from anywhere while in the background a car was parked in what seemed to be a driveway. Must be a house there!
And speaking of houses, what was Hassan doing in his home? I thought he was in hiding from the rival mafioso. Well, anyway, it was fun to watch the two of them, and for him to end up singing a song.
Not so fun was the very end. I’m not enjoying Karsu in her present mean incarnation. Atilla quickly created a good cover story – I gotta hand it to him.
Karsu
ReplyDeleteI agree, Maggie, that the new Karsu is unsettling. The writers have tweaked her persona here, showing that she is capable of doing vindictive things such as setting up Atilla. I loved him at the bookstore and had some hope that he’d finally get a chance to explain. But once she put on all that lipstick, I realized this wasn’t going to turn out well. He was so happy getting ready. I thought Karsu might just not show up. But, instead, this was full-blown revenge with Lale included. Atilla and Lale deserved it, but it seemed unnecessarily cruel. It also reminded me that I don’t see how this relationship has any chance to survive.
On the positive side, watching Hasan and Filiz is such fun! Daughter of Nimrod indeed! I loved him singing! This pairing is going to be entertaining and that will offset my sadness about Atilla-Karsu.
Reha was indeed in full bloom. I can’t figure out how to describe my current feelings about Reha. He is becoming a familiar bad actor, and yet I sometimes think he might eventually turn out ok. But, his flaws are really annoying. Yet, he annoys me less than at the beginning. Have I become numb to his sins or is he slowly improving?
All these actors are so good!
Babachita
Karsu
ReplyDeleteMaggie, I noticed the car down the road also where they ran out of gas. I have to agree Filiz should not have gotten in the car with a stranger. Hasan calling himself an idiot for his responses to Filiz when she invited him for coffee sometime and Filiz also feeling foolish and saying this 'dating' business is hard at her age was so realistic.. I feel for her, especially after what Adnan did to her.
I guess the guy who made her drop her cherry blossoms didn't make as big an impression on her as she made on him.
Reha I've always had an ambiguous feeling about Reha. I'm thinking Karsu was pretty much a zombie the three years Deniz was missing, and when he was found she focused on reconnecting with him. Reha I'm sure got very little affection from her. I understood his affair with Hande, honestly. He loves his kids (in small doses. My husband was very similar and even now after a few hours of grandkids time he's ready to run away, lol.) of course he also suffers from the grass is greener syndrome. All faults but not of the ready to kill someone variety. That was nearly evident though when he hired the thugs to beat up Deniz adopted dad, which ultimately led to his death. Did you notice Deniz never asks about him anymore. Atilla is now the recipient of that affection. I also don't see how Atilla and Karsu will have a future. She'd be better off with lighthearted Merk.
Babachita, these actors are very good! With a somewhat credible storyline too. I keep hoping Hasan really isn't a mafiosa and he's undercover or something. The death of Deniz adopted dad is still the big problem. Maybe he's actually still alive somewhere!
A.MAR
ReplyDeleteI need to brush up on my sea life...Oliver was sporting a t shirt with a jellyfish, not a stingray.
The things you think about in the middle of the night when sleep eludes you! :)

ReplyDeleteI somehow missed the shirt and will have to take a look. ; )

ReplyDeleteThanks Jarifa, I enjoyed your recap. It’s hard to believe Gabriel believes what Brisa tells him, and does another foolish thing. And he accuses Marina just because Brisa tells him. I hope when he learns the truth he’s stuck with Brisa. And friendless because he betrayed Fabian.
Oliver did look like he felt bad when Fabian caught them. I think he wants to do things the right way. Meanwhile Fabian does seem to have a problem being calm and reasonable.
I hope Estrella continues to stay strong against Sergio. I don’t think I’d let Azul change her name, but I bet Azul will want it.

Karsu
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the interaction with Hassan and Filiz. What fun this is going to be!
I kind of like what Karsu did to Atilla. He marries her sister-in-law and tells her he loves her and mentions their night together. She then says she’s willing to listen and asks him to get a hotel room. That reaction from her really shocked me. But if you think of what’s going on in her life. Her husband cheated on her, her sister’s husband cheated, and Atilla made love and then married Lale. So why would she want to go to a hotel with him! What a great way to get even!
I don’t think I will ever like Reha. He thinks he’s so great and is really using Hande to make Karsu jealous! And he thinks it’s working. Plus he pays no money toward his kids. It bothers me that Adnan is going to invest in his company.
This has gone from a depressing drama to a fun watch!

Amanecer Last has got to go down as one of the most grotesque in TN history. Brutal on many, many levels. What is wrong with the producers and writers? Have they no decency, especially for the old, and slightly insane elderly to display such ‘treatment’ ? I had to turn off while they strapped her to the bed. Viewerville is correct to largely boycott this production.
ReplyDeleteAmanecer
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning anonymous. I'll quit watching it from my recordings . The Dizis are much better if you want to catch Bahar on Telemundo. It's just 2 weeks into it.
A.MAR #45 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . . Vacation Version
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments on #44. It was a very busy day and I did not have time to respond.
Not much new action tonight. For the most part, everyone just reinforced their positions and that was enough.
The novela has reached the halfway point tonight. It has gone by really quickly.
Sergio
The episode opens with Sergio having a discussion with his lawyer. She tells him she feels no remorse for helping him cover up Beatriz's death. She asks him if he has nightmares about what he did to her. He thinks back when he pushed Beatriz and answers no, as a matter of fact he sleeps like an angel.
She says they are so much the same in that way, she doesn't regret anything either. On his way to see his father, he throws Beatriz's photo in the trash. Juanjo quickly rescues it only for the lawyer to tell him that as long as he doesn't betray her, he will not tell Sergio that Beatriz's baby was not his but was Juanjo's.
Sergio gives his father the good news. He has a ten year old daughter. He also tells his father how he was so irresponsible that he never knew that Estrella was pregnant. He has already taken a paternity test and is ready to formally give her his last name. His father likes that. Sergio also wants to get Estrella back. He wants them to be the happy family they always should have been. His father always wanted that for him and his offer to hand over the company when he has formed his own nuclear family. Sergio thanks his father telling him he wants him to know that he isn't doing it out of personal interest but he is doing it out of love. His father believes him and hugs him.
What is Sergio Hiding?
Estrella talks to Fabián about Sergio wanting to give Azul his last name. It is a big step but he has been good with Azul. Azul will want his name and she cannot stand in her way. Fabián agrees with her but suggests that she put it off for a while and see what Sergio might be up to. They agree that they have no idea what Sergio and his company are doing in their area. Fabián thinks that people can change but it is very difficult to change one's essence.
Sergio stops by Fabián's house to inform him that he is going to start to hand out the benefit checks tomorrow and would like Fabián to be there at his side as head of the union. Fabián says he can use the union facility but he will not be there. Sergio says eh just wanted to offer him the opportunity. Sergio questions the offer and his action and wants to know why he is doing it at all. Sergio explains that helping people is his passion and these people need what he has to give them. Fabián laughs wondering if he is going to go all over the countryside offering people help with the red tide. Sergio answers no. He is only doing it in this town because of Azul. . . . and the WOMAN he is still in love with. He adds that the hard feeling between them have to end because it isn't good for Azul. He is going to be spending a good amount of time in the area so they should be getting along in a civilized manner. Valentín asks how it is civilized if he is trying to steal Estrella from him.
A.MAR Part 2
ReplyDeleteSergio makes it clear he is not there to steal anyone from anyone. Estrella is free to make her own decisions. That being said, he is going to fight for her until he wins her heart again. He is doing it for Azul and because he and Estrella have a passionate but unfinished story that deserves a happy ending. Fabián says he is wasting his time because it is clear that Estrella feels nothing for him. Sergio tells Fabián to calm down and not get upset. He doesn't want any more problems with him. Fabián suggests that he not go looking for them and that he respect his relationship with Estrella. Sergio answers that if it makes him feel any better, the most important thing for him is Azul and her stability. He adds that they are both adults and can coexist. he extends his hand and asks if they have a truce.Valentín refuses to shake his hand and says from what he told him, this is not a truce but an act of war. Sergio thinks it is a shame he is taking it this way. Anyway, he is thankful that he is allowing him to use the union facility to pass out the bonus checks.
After, he leaves. Gonzalo comes out. He heard it all and tells his son he is right. That was a declaration of war from a coward who couldn't come out and just say it to his face. Fabián is worried about what intentions Sergio has with gifting all of that money to the fishermen. Gonzalo says only time will tell and unfortunately it will take some time. Fabián thinks that in spite of being as smart as he is, Sergio will make a mistake sooner or later. He will have to be very alert in order to prove who really Sergio is.
Meche and Brisa are all excited about getting a bonus check. Estrella would rather they not take the money since they really do not need it but cannot convince them to turn it down.
Perla + Valentín - Pascual=?
After one too many starts and stops, Perla and Valentín FINALLY admit that they both love each other. They also agree they cannot do anything about it because of not wanting to hurt PASCUAL.
Gabriel Falls Apart
Marina finds Brisa playing house at Gabriel's and tells her to get out of HER house and says the usual ignorant things to her. Marina tells her that she needs to stop helping Gabriel break the law because the courts could deny his adoption application. That would put Iker at risk. Brisa insists she is the only one who cares about Gabriel. As soon as Marina leaves, Brisa leaves a message for Gabriel that Marina was there threatening her.
Later, Gabriel is home alone drunk and sitting on the floor getting emotional over one of Iker's aka "his little buccaneer's" toy sword. He finally passes out. Marina comes by and gets him into bed and takes care of him in his sorry state. She tells him she said she would be there through good times and bad.
She holds him as he suffers.
The next morning Brisa shows up surprised to see Marina at Gabriel's. She asks if Marina spent the night with Gabriel. Marina reminds her that SHE is Gabriel's partner and that no matter what Brisa does, she is no competition for her.
Oliver
Oliver goes to see Fabián to talk about dating Yazmín. Fabián opens the door, sees Oliver and closes it right in his face. (that was actually funny) Gonzalo convinces him to give the kid a chance. Oliver does his best to sell himself as a novio for Yazmín. Fabián admits that he is a good kid but not good for his daughter. He is better at getting drunk with Nemesio. The long and short of it is that Oliver put Yazmín's life in danger. There is nothing else to consider. Then he adds that his daughter is going to be leaving town to go to med school and he barely finished high school if he did. Oliver wants to take that challenge. He wants to rpove Fabián wrong. One day he will be the son-in-law Fabián dreamed of. Fabián closes the door for good now. He and Gonzalo have to admit that the kid has guts. They both laugh.
A.MAR
ReplyDeleteJarifa, you've expertly guided us through the first half of this very enjoyable novela, and I am extremely grateful. Another marvelous recap.
'"After one too many starts and stops, Perla and Valentín FINALLY admit that they both love each other. They also agree they cannot do anything about it because of not wanting to hurt PASCUAL". Rather than ripping the bandaid off right away by telling him, they will suffer in silence until such time as they inevitably get caught. I did like Perla's joy and happiness; she was simply radiant.
I'm afraid Gabriel's galan status is going to be removed, at least for the moment. Rolling around on the floor, nursing his self inflicted misery was pathetic. Even worse was Brisa's continued persecution of Marina and refusal to just butt out and fade into the background.
I got such a kick out of Fabian's scene with Oliver! Gonzalo sitting quietly in the background, had me smiling at his amused reactions to their "discussion". Fabian is a strict but caring father, as he should be. I have every confidence Oliver will live up to the promises he made and look forward to seeing his and Yaz's relationship grow and flourish.
Sergio's motivations for his surprising "generosity" to the fisherfolk remain opaque for the moment although his determination to try and "recapture" Estrella's love by any means necessary are painfully transparent. His lawyer is quite the heartless, manipulative beyotch isn't she?
Jarifa, thank you for all of your time and talent. As always, you clarified so very much and did so with your always fine flair.

Karsu
ReplyDeleteThat was fun, Mert telling Karsu how Atilla must be feeling and Karsu asking him how he could know considering he’d just met him a few times. Still don’t like her overdone lipstick. It doesn’t look good. Too harsh.
Has Lale ever met Cedvet before? She’s not startled by him being in the apartment when she comes home from the hotel, nor is she surprised when he calls Attila mi jefe. And I thought Filiz had evicted Attila – yet he’s made no move to start packing up.
I was surprised Lale told him maybe she married him por amor. There’s a big difference between being interested in someone and amor.
Irmak didn’t react that strongly to hearing about Adnan’s infidelity. Karsu threw a chair through a window and Filiz went berserk, but Irmak just looks shocked and cries. I agreed with Filiz that telling her could endanger the baby, and I wondered if Karsu’s telling her was part of Karsu’s let-the-world-burn attitude. But Irmak told her it was the right thing to do. I’m curious what revenge she has planned.
I gotta feel sorry for Kande with Reha telling the kids they can have rooms in their place. First she’s supposed to be happy just fiddling her thumbs and sitting around with his mother, and now she’s supposed to take care of his kids. I know he’s gawdawful, but he’s so over the top with his selfishness and ego that I find him funny. I think the writers had a great time writing his part and the actor is having a blast playing him. Later he asks Lale how to deflect Kande’s marriage talk and I loved how Lale told him to just blow smoke like he usually does.
Now we know that Attila was planning to leave the mafia life and got delayed. I wonder what he plans to say to Hassan. I really wonder about Reha wanting to do business with Hassan. Blithely stepping into the orbit of the mafia? Bad idea.
