  2. Bahar #9?

The walls are closing in on Timur regarding his affair. He dodged the first bullet by claiming the bracelet receipt Bahar found amongst his unhung suits from the cleaners was a gift for her. He quickly orders a new one from the jeweler which conveniently gets delivered at work while she is discussing something with him in his office. He stupidly got an exact replica of the one he gave Rengin. Meanwhile Rengin has misplaced hers, it's likely in her car as her ex? grabbed her wrist in order to talk with her in her car. Speaking of cars, these doctors keep leaving their cars in front of the hospital entrance. Are there valets moving them an parking in the parking lot? I'm still lost on the ex situation. I think he is blackmailing her, possibly about Parla's parentage. He may not be her dad and Timur is. Timur is really nervous that the girls are becoming friends.

Both consuegras visit Cagra at her practice at the same time. Gülçiçek pretends she is their first Botox or something, but she actually has something wrong with her leg and wanted her advice. Cagra tells her it's not her area of expertise but she will recommend her to someone. Nevra seems to have a boyfriend. Gülçiçek notices her getting into a car with someone who was quite chummy with her.

Bahar deals with the rich patient very well calming his angry attack on the two surgeons that told him he has stage 4 colon cancer. Later she wheels him outside for some fresh air and some more of her brand of advice. Unfortunately their are two miles now on staff trying to find out what's up with rich guy and they record him crying from a distance with Bahar alongside his wheelchair. Now he's out for her blood. Timur is already rejoicing and telling Rengin their troubles will soon be over.

Missing Parla was actually at Timur's house checking on Umay. Bahar invites her for dinner, after she lets her mother know. Parla realizes Timur apparently has a happy family dynamic, they all eat as a family etc. Timur brings her home letting her mom know Timur is just playing with her while he lives with his complete family. Rengin the next morning makes Parla breakfast. This is totally out of character for her which Parla notes. Rengin has also arranged for her to go to England for a Masters art class the next semester.

Umay, learning about it is happy for her friend, but also resentful. At the fateful dinner party her dad nixed any plans for her to be an artist. She needs to concentrate on math and become a Dr. (This would be so easy to detail, just fail all your math and science classes, no med school would accept you then I imagine). Anyhow, Bahar isn't going to let this happen. She talks with Umay (who is a total dream praising Bahar for following her medical dreams and she is so sorry she was such a brat). Bahar, through Cagla, has arranged for Umay to have personal art lessons with some famous,to them, artist. Cagla knows the artist and facilitated it.

Looks like the chief of staff will fire Bahar, lots of Selen and Timur have both reported her conduct towards the rich guy. I'm sure something will happen to help her. The rich guy was ranting at her near the nurses station when he collapsed and she rushed to help him. One of the moles recorded this event also.

  3. velvet #48 part 1

Not as short as I thought it would be.

Albert questions Emilio. Who sent the man to kill Isabel and why did they want her dead? Who was behind the process of having her sent to prison? Emilio is hesitant. He finally says that the trial was rushed and irregular. But he can’t accuse anyone without evidence. He adds, whoever did it, must have really hated your mother. Albert says he will investigate and clear Isabel’s name. [yes!]

Emilio tries to talk Albert out of digging into the past and to spend time with Isabel while he can. Albert says he’ll do whatever it takes to save Isa. He’s waiting for a second opinion on her health [yes!] He assures a smiling Emilio, my mother will be with us for a long time. And Albert won’t accept Emilio’s resignation.

Cris continues to make nice with Isabel. She offers to take Isa to dialysis. Isa says Emilio is doing that.

Val comes downstairs and immediately gets into it with Isa. My mother warned me you’d come to stay, Val notes, but I didn’t imagine it would be in her house. Cris replies to Val, you shouldn’t talk to her like this. Why don’t you follow your mom’s example and leave the house, too? And after what you did, I want you out of Velvet as well.

Val reminds everyone that she is part owner of Velvet. Isa says she’s not interested in the company. Val turns to Cris and calls her out on her holier than thou attitude. I’m single, she says, and your brother came on to me. Isa is stunned at this revelation. After Val leaves Isa tells Cris not to worry, Val is just a kid. Cris looks like she wants to explode.

Esteban is buying Blanca her favorite breakfast as he remembers it. She asks him to stop sending her flowers. He wants to find out more about their son and says they can check it out together. Blanca wants no part of that, it’s too painful. Esteban apologizes for this and everything else that happened. He’s here for her now. He makes another play to rekindle their relationship. Blanca says she can only offer friendship, nothing more. He accepts that—for now.

Cris rats out Enrique and Valeria to Gerardo. He’s livid and ready to confront his son.

Carla tells Mateo about Enrique and Valeria. Mateo notices David’s bitcoin books. Mateo warns Clara about David the snake charmer. Clara is offended by the insinuation. First Barbie’s accusation and now Mateo.

Barbie is upset with Cris for not defending her. Now it’s Cris’ turn to give marriage advice. This is no way to win a war. Barbie insists she’s getting a divorce. Are you sure, Cris asks, will you clear a path for that loser? Cris tells Barbie she informed Gerardo. Enrique fears Gerardo, so the affair is over.

Ana tells Luisa and Marga she told Carlos about Albert. We are starting fresh by putting our cards on the table. Marga notes that little is known about Carlos’ life. Luisa chimes in and says Carlos is kind of scary. Ana thinks that Carlos is a gentleman. But he’s encouraging her to leave Velvet. She’s been thinking about that but she’s staying for now. Her friends warn her to be careful and to keep them informed.

Creepy Carlos has more Garza dresses. He tells his guy to take care of them like before. Leave no clues. The guy also investigated Sahgun employees with ties to Velvet. There were 3. [we don’t find out who they are.] Carlos asks the guy to investigate Albert’s visits to Miami every year. Where he stayed, how long, and who he was with.

Raul gossips with Cris. He gets confirmation on Enrique and Val. Cris decides to share the latest about Albert. She wants his help in “protecting” her husband. She swears him to secrecy. Isabel, is Albert’s bio mom. Raul gasps.

  4. velvet #48 part 2

Gerardo comes to see Enrique and rips him a new one. [yes!] It’s interesting that Gerardo isn’t as mad over the affair as he is about Enrique getting caught. And he’s supposed to be watching Albert and protecting the investment. Enrique tries to make a case for getting involved with Val. Gerardo notes that divorcing Barbie will cost dearly. He threatens to send Enrique to the company office in Durban, South Africa. [yes!] Break it off with Val and apologize to Barbie, immediately!

In return, Enrique drops a bomb on Gerardo—Albert’s mom is alive and in NY after spending 25 years in prison for murder. Now she’s under the same roof as Cristina. Didn’t Cris mention that?

Emilio notices that Pedro hasn’t been focused on work lately. Pedro tells him about cosigning the loan for Susan. He’s willing to do it for his son. Finally, Emilio tells Pedro the one thing viewerville has been screaming about: have you ever considered that Peter isn’t your son? Why don’t you get a paternity test? You need to snap out of it! [yes, yes, yes!]

Val comes to see Enrique at his request. He wants her to take a few days off. She won’t. She calls him a little boy who’s afraid of punishment. He admits there’s something to that. His dad threatened to send him far away if he doesn’t fix things. He begs her for some space to take care of this. She replies, take all the time you need, this is over. Dad and Barbie don’t have to worry. Val doesn’t look so strong when she turns to leave.

Gerardo shows up to see Cris at home. He sees Isabel with her nurse first. He introduces himself and asks if she’s a relative of Los Marquez. Cris interrupts before Isa can answer and takes her father away.

Gerardo is angry that Cris told him nothing about Isabel. He thinks Isa is a criminal and a danger to Cris. Cris replies that Albert is investigating, and it appears that Isa is innocent. Gerardo isn’t buying it. Cris also says that Isa is very sick and isn’t capable of harming anyone. Gerardo insists that Cris and Albert come to live with him. Cris refuses, I have to support every decision of Alberto’s, just trust me.

Val has asked to see Emilio. She wants the truth about Isa. You defend her like she’s a saint. How can a woman who served a murder sentence be innocent? [how can people be so naïve to think 100% of all prison inmates are guilty?] Emilio replies, I’m sure you won’t like it. It’s not the story your mom told you. Are you ready to hear it?

Emilio has filled Val in over the commercial break. She asks, why would somebody send someone to kill Isabel? Emilio explains, Benjamin was deeply in love with Isabel. He wanted to bring her to NY and marry her for all to see. Val realizes her father was planning to break his engagement to her mother. Emilio admits this and adds that Benjamin never thought he’d meet the love of his life in Oaxaca. And somebody powerful made sure that Isabel never got to NY.

Val can’t believe it. My mother might be flawed, but she is not capable of something like that. Draw your own conclusions, Emilio replies, who else would want Isabel out of the way? Don’t say that again, Val warns. Emilio answers, I’m really very sorry. None of this is your fault.

Albert is at his favorite restaurant/watering hole. Tio Esteban sidles up to surprise him. Ah, this was one of Benjamin’s favorite places, too, and Albert has come her since he was a kid. Albert asks, did you know about my mother? [Gulp. IIRC, Esteban knows what Glo did.] Esteban plays dumb, what do you mean? She’s been alive all these years and in prison in Mexico, Albert replies, don’t pretend you didn’t know. Esteban denies knowing. Albert asks, my father never talked about her? Not much, Esteban answers. It might not be my place… your mother didn’t want you and asked Benjamin to take you, or she’d put you for adoption.

  5. velvet #48 part 3

Albert says that everyone he talks to has a different version of Isa and her history with his father. Everybody knows something that I don’t know, he says. Albert is ready to leave but Esteban stops him. That’s the reason I stepped away from the company and the family, he explains. This family has a lot of secrets. Albert asks, and how many secrets are you keeping, Tio?

Tio Esteban evades and says, that’s just the way this family works and I’m sorry about that. I regret the story is repeating itself with you. Esteban stops Albert again. I want to break the vicious cycle more than anything. I’m being honest with you. You can count on my affection and support. If I can help in any way, just ask. Albert thanks him and finally gets away. Esteban looks like he just escaped disaster.

Pedro and Rick talk at home. Stupid Pedro is sure Peter is his—their hands are the same. Rick answers, we all have 2 hands and 5 fingers. Stop being stupid, listen to Emilio and get a paternity test. [yes!] Peter tells Pedro that he has to bring someone he admires for Career Day at school. Rick volunteers. Nope, Peter wants his dad to tell the class about being a handyman. [This is sickening FF>> I wonder if this kid is in on the scam.]

Even more sickening is Susan. She asks the men if something is wrong. Rick says yes, Pedro has something to say. Pedro chickens out on the DNA test and says he is ready to sign the loan papers. Susan is thrilled. Rick is incredulous. Pedro is certain that Peter is his son. Susan brings the papers, and Pedro signs his life away.

Emilio is with Isa. She picks up a childhood pic of Albert and Val. Emilio notes that the two were close when they were kids. Val wanted to do everything that Albert did. He tells a story of Val climbing a tree after Albert and falling and breaking her arm. Glo blamed Albert and made him feel guilty. Isa worries that Albert and Val aren’t getting along. It’s important that they stick together. She will be the only family he has left. She wants to bring it up with Albert.

The Velvet ladies + Rick work on Luisa’s wardrobe for her trip. Carlos shows up with food for everyone. Clara notes that the food is from a one-star Michelin restaurant and they don’t do takeout. Carlos corrects her—it’s two stars, and when you are part owner, they make exceptions for takeout. Clara thinks Ana hit the jackpot with Carlos.

Ana pulls Carlos aside and thanks him for everything. He says he only wants the best for her. A little peck on the lips and a hug, and we get another glimpse of Carlos’ psychopathy.

Emilio updates Blanca on Isabel. She’s stable, Albert is taking care of her, and they are running tests to determine if she will respond to more treatment. Blanca is happy to hear mother and son are together again. [bittersweet for her.] Emilio asks her about Esteban. Isabel told him about it. Blanca says there were a lot of misunderstandings between them. Emilio warns her to be careful with Esteban, who is a smooth talker, but his actions speak louder than his words. Blanca admits she’s beginning to believe Esteban.

In the Hamptons, Glo is burning the letters that Isabel wrote to Benjamin. Val shows up and is not happy that Glo is drinking. [what did she expect?] Val continues, I spoke with Emilio. I asked about Alberto’s mother. Glo asks, did you compare versions? Val notices the letters to Benjamin. Glo explains that Ben kept them in a safe and now she’s burning them. [it would have been nice if Val took one.] Glo wishes that Isabel was the one burning in hell.

  6. velvet #48 part 4

It was you, Val accuses, did you send that man to kill Isabel? Evil stare from Glo. She replies, that is a serious question. Do you really want to hear the answer? Val answers, how could you? Glo fires back, oh, please… get your head out of the clouds, if you want to achieve anything in life.

Val says, I never thought you were capable of such a thing. Glo calls Val and ingrate. All I’ve done is protect you and make you a strong woman and this is how you repay me? By throwing me out of my house, taking my money and joining with all the people that want to hurt me? Has it been worth it? I curse the day I spawned you!

¡Basta! Val shouts in Glo’s face. [yes!] I won’t let you insult me anymore. I want you out of my life. I won’t be an accomplice to your crime! What crime, Glo replies, I never said I killed anyone. You don’t have to, Val answers and starts to leave. Glo panics, wait, don’t leave me here alone. Listen, we need to be more united than ever. Thank goodness Val stands firm and says, not now or ever. Don’t worry, she adds, keep drinking. I’ll make sure you don’t go dry, but you’ll never see me again. Val leaves.

Blanca visits Isabel. Isa notes how her life has changed in a short while. She also notes that they both have a weakness for Marquez men. Isa tells Blanca, give yourself another chance. Don’t carry that pain anymore. My life hasn’t been easy, Blanca replies. She tells Isa the story that Esteban told her. Isa asks, what are your plans with Esteban? Blanca shrugs.

Velvet board meets. The designs are approved for both Ana and Raul’s collections. But there’s not enough money for two runway shows. Enrique and Val talk about doing something online and just having one show. He informs everyone he will be working from home for the next few weeks. Enrique objects, Albert is needed at Velvet. Don’t worry, Albert replies, Valeria will represent my interests in my absence. He tells Val, you and I will run the company. Val is surprised. This is not good for Enrique.

We get more on the Pilar – Esteban collaboration. He’s told her about Isabel, at least what he knows through Gloria. Pilar gives Esteban a reward. An apartment with views of Central Park and two cars. Now he can bring Sofia to NY. The apartment is mine, Pilar says, but I could give it to you as a payment for everything you’re going to do at Velvet. They drink to that.

Enrique asks Barbie to an apology lunch. She does not make it easy for him. She asks if Gerardo is forcing him to apologize. He denies it. She insults him. She knew she’d have to forgive one-night stands, but this is different. He says he will do anything she asks. She answers, I want the house in Miami. Sign it over to me. And she wants all the art pieces in the house that he’s been collecting for years. She’ll auction them off and give the proceeds to charity. She wants him to suffer. Is it a deal?

David brings Clara chocolates. He asks, what did you think of the books I gave you? She liked them very much. It’s changing her way of thinking. He’s pleased. He tells her he’s launching a new cryptocurrency. We can get coffee, he says, and I’ll tell you about it. Clara, I see a big future for you that can get you out of sitting at this simple desk. She’s interested. Mateo interrupts. What are you doing here? He takes David away. Clara is left dreaming of a life beyond her simple desk.

    ReplyDelete
  7. velvet #48 part 5

Mateo asks David, be honest, what are you doing here? Did you miss me? Not at all, David replies, mom told me she’s tired of us fighting like cats and dogs. It’s time to sort it out. Mateo asks, and you think the best way is by hitting on my girlfriend? David is amused. Are you worried she’d prefer me? Mateo is sure that Clara loves him.

David answers, maybe, maybe not. What I do know is that love eventually runs out, and just like in business, one person’s misfortune is another person’s luck. Clara needs to invest in her romantic future in a promising, exciting asset, not in a sad, boring one, who can only offer her a fixed-term deposit. [lol]

Mateo warns David to stay away from Clara. You can’t tell me what to do, David shoots back, I’m really interested in Clara. I’ll be that Clara will dump you sooner rather than you think and pick the better of the Andrades. Me.

Carlos comes to see Albert. Albert invites him to sit. Carlos stands and says this won’t take long. Ana told me about you two. Your supposed love story. I say supposed because for you it was clearly something else. Albert warns him not to meddle in his private life. Carlos answers, if your private life interferes with my relationship, I will meddle. I won’t ask your intentions because they are clear.

Albert doesn’t understand. Carlos explains, it’s about everything you’ve done since Ana and I have been together. The Sahghattan project, taking her to Miami, and the bidding war for the dress. All so you could keep controlling her. You must understand that’s over. Ana is mine. Stay away from her or you’ll be sorry.

    And we are out.

Great recap, dondi! I enjoy this show. Gloria is a great villain. It’s funny to see Danilo play evil, but he is doing it well so far! His over-the-top expressions are entertaining! I wonder what made him this way? Is he seeking revenge for some harm in his past? I don’t recall knowing his background.

Clara and Mateo belong together. Birds of a feather. I don’t like David. I suspect the mom of bringing him in to break up C&M.

I’ve thought Peter was in on the con all along. Something must have triggered my feeling. Maybe his playing up to Pedro with seemingly rehearsed flattery. Usually I like kids on telenovelas, but this one not!

Barbi can just go away. I have hopes for Valeria and Enrique. It must be hard to realize your mother is evil, but Val seems to be there. She is good for Velvet!

I am still ambivalent about Cris. I liked her in this one. The actress is very talented.

I hope Max shows up again soon! Blanca needs him. Esteban was just a bad romance that should be left in the past. Max is the future.

Esteban also seems insincere. Pilar is a schemer. Including Benjamin, this family is awful. I give Alberto some sympathy for this, especially growing up with Gloria! I am glad he gets to know Isabel. Emilio might have helped Alberto resist being a typical Marquez.

Loved the image of Clara dreaming at “her simple desk!” Great dondi!

Dondi, I love when you recap. I get so much more out of it. RE Barbie what I thought and what was said had a big disconnect. I thought Chris said if she divorced she'd be out on the street, not that it was leaving a clear road for Val, lol...so I like how barb thinks, get the house and Enrique's art collection but then auction it off for charity. Maybe she has hidden depths we don't know about, or she just wants to stick it to him.

All along I kinda have liked Chris. She needs some therapy for her birthday Pilar behavior, but I think she is really trying to make her marriage work. Al pretended to love her to get her family money to save the store so he is the one I like less. She is being nice to Isabel too. I do hope Al discovers something.

So close! Pedro almost saw the light. Susan will take the money and run, guaranteed. Wonder how many guys she slept with in the year around her sons birth. As he is like in on it, they can also be lying about his age so she probably has a 2 year window to work around if she pretends he is older or younger to fit a timeline.

Dang, that should have been bipolar behavior. No idea how that got corrected to what was posted.

Dondi, I don't know how you do this. Your recaps are consistently extraordinary--superbly written, insightful, with delightful touches of humor. And they cover everything! What can I say, other than muchísimas gracias?

I'm glad that Alberto is seeking a second opinion about Isabel's health. Getting a second opinion is often worthwhile, but especially when one has reason to distrust the initial judgment. As far as I'm concerned, that's certainly the case here. I do not trust Carlos, including his role in Isabel's diagnosis and treatment. I don't yet know what Carlos would gain from Isabel's returning to Oaxaca, nor her immediately starting dialysis, nor her stopping work, but the fact that he wants these things makes me uneasy. I second your "[yes!]."

Speaking of Carlos, what is he referring to in the scene where he tells someone to do with these Garza dresses what you did with the others. Huh? Is Carlos trying to get rid of the dresses? If so, why? And why does he want to know which Sahgun employees have ties to Velvet? Apparently he's been told about three such employees, and he's now asking that a fourth be added: Alberto Márquez. Uh oh.

I cheered when Emilio strongly suggested to Pedro that he get a paternity test, and I suspect everyone else on the patio cheered as well. Pedro is good-hearted but not very bright, to put it mildly. He says he knows Peter is his son because Peter's hands resemble his. Duh. I know Marga is in love with him, but she deserves better.

At first, when Esteban returned to New York, I was hoping that he and Blanca might resume their past relationship. I guess I was just so taken with Carlos Ponce. Sigh. But now he's on my "don't trust" list. Doesn't he tell Alberto that Isabel didn't want him (Alberto), that she wanted Benjamin to take him or she'd put him up for adoption? (Hmmm...then again, if Isabel was already serving a long sentence for murder, some of what Esteban says might make sense, though not "she didn't want you.")

I enjoyed Emilio's asking Val, "who else would want Isabel out of the way?"

I'm not sure what to think of Pilar, but my distrust meter is on high. I wonder what she wants of Esteban in return for the apartment and two cars.

Last night's episode ended on a disconcerting note, with Carlos telling Alberto to "stay away from Ana or you'll be sorry." But often the Friday episode is the one that ends on the most threatening note. I wonder whether/how it will top last night's.

Thanks for the kind words and great comments everyone.

Babachita, yes, I wonder if there’s a backstory for Carlos. Or maybe he’s just a bad seed… a very bad seed. ITA about Carolina Miranda as Cris. She became the main character in the Señora Acero series after Blanca Soto left the show. She was excellent there, too, and won an award for it.

Max will probably come back once Blanca decides to give Esteban another chance.

Kat, I don’t think Barbie has any depth, just some height from her stilettos. She stated she wanted Enrique to suffer. And I can’t completely hate Cris because she’s not well. She’s obsessed with Albert. She wants to possess him. I don’t know if you can call that love.

Juanita, I hope Isabel’s second opinion says her condition is treatable. I think Carlos wants to get rid of anyone who might take any of Ana’s attention or affection from him. He wants to isolate her. Sending Isabel back to Oaxaca would get rid of Emilio, too. And leaving Velvet would distance Ana from the other Velvet ladies and Albert.

Carlos wants the guy to burn the dresses to get rid of any evidence he bought them. I don’t know if he kept one this time for sexual cosplay with that woman. As for the three names with ties to Velvet, he wants to find out who gave Ana the info on Katy Mendez.

We can’t trust Esteban. He’s colluding with Pilar. Pilar wants what she’s always wanted—Velvet. Somehow Esteban will help her through a relationship with Blanca. In turn, Pilar will continue to support her deadbeat brother. Esteban is also keeping the truth about Glo up his sleeve.

The patio crockpot theory is Susan and Peter are scamming Pedro.

I’ll recap tonight’s ep and have it up on Saturday.

I haven’t been able to keep up with these this week so thanks to all for keeping me up to date.

Carlos can’t be trusted even when it seems like he’s doing something nice, like for Isabel. Doesn’t seem like he wants all of Ana’s people gone so he can have her all to himself? Like would’ve drug Isabel to make her and Emilio go back to Mexico? Would that work? Then he has to get her away from her Velvet friends and he’s home free. He’s slime anyway and I hope his henchman didn’t actually burn the good dresses.

Pilar may be bad news but it’s nice to see her again. I haven’t seen this actress since Marido en Alquiler and she was good in that. Good actress and good character. Not nefarious like now.

Pedro. Ugh. So close, but the lightbulb just won’t stay on.
