Abismo de pasión #73 6/22/12 Damien, Gael, Gabby and Agosto are Shirtless (And other Things)

Sorry this is so late.  Please interpret or clarify whatever you can.

Church Carmina is in the church and yet, her flesh has not melted from her body.  Maybe she’s not as bad as we think.  Padre talks about someone having proof on her.  He draws in a deep breath.  He can smell the evil all over her.  Carmina says that Gabino has nothing on her.  Did anyone say anything about Gabino?  Gabino knows the truth?  Padre Lupe strongly encourages her to tell the truth before it’s too late.  Sooner or later, whatever is in the dark will come to the light.  She won’t have a moment of peace until she confesses what she’s done.  Mystery:  a child keeps yelling in the background, but Carmina and Lupe are the only two people in the church.

Cenote The Swingers Club (Dam, Gael, Paloma, Elisa) has just finished taking a dip in the cool waters of the Cenote.  Gael and Paloma are sitting on a rock drying in the sun. Once again, Gael is wearing the standard issue plaid shirt issued to all La Ermita males over the age of 15.  They are discussing Kenia’s obsession Agosto; Paloma blames Agosto.  Paloma tells Gael that Carmina was knocked up before she married Agosto.  Gael wants to tell Elisa, but she swears him to secrecy.  She told her grandma that she wouldn’t tell anyone else.  She only told him because he’s her boyfriend.  Meanwhile, Elisa re-reads the Kenia’s note and tells Damien that she wants to talk to Kenia.  She’s feeling guilty about not believing her about lusting over Agosto.  It was a logical mistake Elisa; we all made it.    Side note, Elisa has a really pretty voice (sultry) when she’s not crying.

Hacienda de Arango Gambino is pissed about Alfonsina hiring Guido and has gone to visit Alfonsina.  He’s upset because after Damien quit, she put him in charge, then hired Guido without informing him.  She tells him not to take it personally.  Guido is an experienced business man.  Gabino angrily points out that no one is more experienced in the habanero business than him.  Alfonsina says that Guido is a responsible gentleman with class and frankly, she’s doing it because would like the opportunity to have hot sex with Guido one day.  Gabino wants to know if she means that Guido is more responsible than him.  She says, “Of course”, while rolling her eyes and flipping her hair.  I think he tells her that he deserves a chance because he has worked hard for her for years.  She tells him that Guido and Paolo are part of her family and he is just an employee.  She tells him to get back to work.  He looks like he wants to smack the hell out of her.  He storms out.

For some reason beyond me, Tonia is in front of the house drawing water out of the decorative fountain with a plastic green mop bucket.  She spies Gabino stomping down the sidewalk and decides to taunt him.  At that point Gabino runs over and decides to take all of his pent up rage out on her.  He grabs her by her arm and demands to know, “What is your problem with me?” He then tries to have sex with her out on the front lawn.  She tells him over and over again to “sueltame”!  I think he tells her that she isn’t getting what she needs from Braulio (which could be true in my opinion).  She tells him that Braulio is a better man than him and tries to escape, but he grabs with a choke hold and dry humps her from behind.  Yes, Pinky, all of this is happening in PLAIN VIEW in front of the Hacienda Arango and no one notices.  Sueltame! Normally, I don’t blame the woman, but shouldn’t she have thought of that before she decided to mess with him.  Goodness!  He finally lets her go.  She wipes his kisses and the smell of his sweat from her body.

Casa de Kenia Damien and Elisa have come to speak with Kenia.  Kenia doesn’t answer the door since she’s still dead somewhere in the Cenote.

Casa de Castanon Horacio tells Gabby about the letter Kenia gave him to give to Agosto and how he gave the letter to Camina.  I think Gabby tells Horacio that he just signed Kenia’s death certificate and walks away.

Plaza Damien (wearing blue plaid shirt), and Elisa are making goo goo eyes at each other.  He wants to walk her home so they can talk to her father together.  She says that this is something that she has to do alone.  He can’t keep his hands off of her.

Casa de Castanon Horacio stops Carmina, he tells her that Gabino stopped by looking for Kenia.   I think he tells her that he told Gabby about the letter.  She calls him a fool.  I think she tells him that they have to leave or do something early in the morning.   I don’t know what else they discussed, but it had something to do with Dolores.  Commericial.

Clinic Don Lucio is visiting Dr. Whupped (by Agosto).  He looks like he was beat with a brick.  They discuss how he was tempted by Carmina and how it has bought problems to his marriage.  Paloma walks in and sees his face.  She tells him that it’s her fault that he caught a beat down.  She’s the one who slipped up and told Alfonsina.  Dr. Whupped (by Agosto) knows that Alfonsina is going to tell Mrs. Kravitz who will only spread her own gossip all over town.  She asks his forgiveness.

Casa de Castanon Home Office Carmina calls Gabino, but hangs up quickly when Agosto, looking quite well for being in a fist fight walks in.  He hangs up his hat and asks who Carmina is talking to.  She tries to change the subject, but he demands to know who she was talking to.  He wants to know if she was talking to Tovar.  She wants to know why, then sits on him lap and smooches with him a little.  Does she know that he whupped up on Dr. Whupped?  Anyways, they go up stairs and have “hot sex”.  They are both breathing heavily.  Afterwards, he throws some bills on the bed (like she’s a good little hooker) and tells her to get the hell out (he is a dead man).  The words of the priest come back to her.  She thinks he’s mad about Rosendo and doesn’t realize that he’s talking about Dr. Tovar.  I really don’t get what they were discussing.  Please interpret.

Casa de Arango Mrs. Kravitz (Begona) is visiting Alfonsina. She wants to suck up.  Alfonsina tells Tonia to put Mrs. Kravitz out.  At first she doesn’t go, but Alfonsina has enough time to tell her about her gossiping and I THINK Alfonsina tells her that they were both cheated on.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory Gabby is removing her jewelry, preparing for bed.  A half-naked Gabby, is snacking in bed beside her.  I think he’s getting ready for a marathon session and needs protein and carbs to keep his endurance up.   She’s gonna be a happy girl tonight because he’s frustrated and needs to get out all of that aggression.  He’s still bitchin’ about how he’s worked all these years for Alfonsina and she treats him like dirt.  He looks delicious and I bet he tastes good too.  Ingrid is upset because she still can’t get Gael on her side.

Casa Arango Florencia has no pride.  She is still there and Damien is not.  I would have bounced by now or secretly slept with Enrique to make myself feel better.  The Italians are in Florencia’s bedroom.  I don’t know what they are discussing, but when her father walks in, she gets in a snit and leaves.

Casa de Castanon Elisa is in her bedroom, holding her amulet.  She is thinking of Damien and how she told him that she wants to talk to her father alone first.

Clinic Oh my gosh! Both Damien and Gael are wearing matching plaid shirts, cowboy boots and cowboy hats.  Damien should RUN back to Florencia (she would have never allowed this fashion don’t).  Damien is there to ask about his amulet.  The nurse says that they haven’t found it.  Commercial.

Casa de Arango Guido and Alfonsina discuss her relationship with Damien and what’s going on at the procesadora.  He tells her that Gabby was upset about him new position.  He says that Gabby acts like he owns the place.  She tells him to fire Gabby.  She is a big bitch!  I love her.

Casa de Castanon Horacio and Dolores discuss putting his meat business in the location where he accidentally murdered Blanca.  He protests and storms out.

Church Alfonsina calls Lupe.  She wants to discuss what Damien is doing at his uncle’s house.  They argue.  I think it’s about how she wants to run her son’s life.  Did she say that she was going to stop her giving?

Damien and Gael run in fight over who gets the bathroom first.  Gael won.

Clinic Begona visits Dr. Tovar.  He wants to talk to her about something very serious.  She crawls in the bed with him.  He doesn’t tell her that he cheated on her with Carmina.  She blames their problems on Alfonsina and tells him that she will commit to her family.  He shocked but it looks like they are getting back together.

Church Damien is wearing some black BVDs.  Today’s not my birthday, but thanks wardrobe department.  How did you know that I would enjoy that?  He reaches into the closet and removes a plaid shirt (you can take a man out of La Ermita, but you can’t take La Ermita out of the man….he’s been to Europe…didn’t he learn anything?).  Anyways, something drops out of the shirt.  As he bends down to retrieve the item, the camera follows every inch of his body.  What a treat!  If I had the time, I would review him from his head to his toes, but I’m about to go to church (for real) and I can’t have my skin burning off from all the lustful thoughts I am thinking.  Anyway, he picks up the amulet.  Gael, the dirty rat, has had it the entire time!  Gael comes out of the bathroom and Damien confronts him.

  2. Really do agree with your list, Anon207!

Paloma becomes more pathetic by the day..P.A.T.H.E.T.I.C

  3. You aren't even going to give us a recap of your all night beach party? Ah, come on!

Well, this recap was such fun. You are a snarky little thing. From your first sentence: "Carmina is in church and yet, her flesh has not melted from her body", to "Alfi doing it because she would like the opportunity to have hot sex with Guido one day" and also loved your black BVDs appreciation, even though it isn't your birthday.

I am definitely not your go-to girl for interpretations, but when Assgu was questioning OrangeHole she came out with "I never slept with Rosendo". Assgu said "Who said anything about Rosendo?" I think.

    Thanks again,

    Rosemary la Otra

  4. Cyn, another terrific recap! I love your brutally frank style. Gotta say, Fina's extremely bitchy way with Gabino was impressive and alarming.

More later when I get back to my computer.

  5. Thank you Cynderella for the wonderful, snarky recap. Oooh, a beach party is definitely an excused absence.
    My favorite lines are ---
"Kenia doesn’t answer the door since she’s still dead somewhere in the Cenote. "
    and
"Today’s not my birthday, but thanks wardrobe department. How did you know that I would enjoy that? "
    and
" If I had the time, I would review him from his head to his toes, but I’m about to go to church (for real) and I can’t have my skin burning off from all the lustful thoughts I am thinking. "

Tacky Alfonsina definitely said she would stop giving to the fund for the poor children who have nothing to eat. Bitch. No God points for heaven, for her.

RlaO - I understood Carmina's comment about Rosendo the same way you did, but I'm no expert.

Oh Gael, why did you have to hide the magical amulet. Envy does not become you and I'm so disappointed.

I'm on Kenia Watch. With every scene I keep expecting her body to pop up somewhere.

    Party on, Cyn!

  6. Yesssss indeed, Inquiring Minds DO want to know about the beach party. And followed by church, for real. Interesting and effective combination, Cynderella.

As I watched last night, I was chuckling thinking that the Telenovela Gods must really love you. Lots of beefcake, many scenes of Gabino...including in his tightie whities and Damian in his tightie blackies. Happy Unbirthday to you my friend!

Favorite line in addition to the already quoted line about poor Kenia:

"he looks delicious and I be he tastes good too."
    and

"She is a big bitch! I love her."

As baaaad as Alfonsina is, I think we're all coming to respect how adroitly she whups every man, woman and child within her orbit. She is indeed an Alpha Bitch. Gotta give her credit.

And I'm sure Gabino is delicious although I got a little depressed seeing that that infernal bandanna was still on his hand and wondering how much sweat and bacteria had accumulated on it over the weeks and months he's been wearing it. Ugh! Hope Ingrid's immune system is up to snuff.

  7. Lucky you party girl!! No apologies for having a good time. Since few in our La Ermita gang seem to be happy, we Patio Patrons might as well make up for the morose mood.

Wow, Fina just went to a whole new level of Beyotch-Supreme didn't she? People, including her own son, seem to be only on this earth to get her want she wants. Gotta admit, Gab as been doing her dirty work for YEARS, and one hot Guido shows up and she's throwing the guy to the curb. I would also say, none too bright of a move? I mean Gabs does know a few tidbits about her...she must have it REAL bad for Guido.Poor slob...RUN!

Speaking of Gab, how the heck does he get his face to twitch like that when he's supressing anger? Very cool.

My son has been so frustrated to lose a blue plaid shirt he liked to wear with a matching tee ( I know I know- but young guy's really do like those). We thought a frat brother took it, and lo and behold, there it was last night on Dam. Hmmm, maybe I should accuse him of stealing?? So now the roomies will be on the outs again... hey, they lasted two whole episodes. This time Gael screwed up, but I still love him.

Paloma...I agree Pathetic, but at least she fessed up to Doc Tovar. So since Begonya and Alfi are on the outs, will the Doc be off the hook since wifey will just take whatever Beyotch-Supreme says as so much garbage? Hmmmmm...

Asshat is toast. Carmina will not go gently into that good night.

Wardrobe must have decided to clean up Boyer and make her look slightly more innocent. Dresses aren't so revealing...and they are dresses, not those awful shorts and tees. Different hairdo's too to give her a gentler look--braids, pulled back. The hooker look seems to have been parked a bit. Hope they keep that up. Now if they would put Pal's hari back into a braid, I'll be happy.

  8. I don't know...Dam and Gael's matching hats, matching shirts of different colors, rolling around on the bed was all a little Brokeback Mountainy.

It didn't help any when the final line of this episode is Damian asking "What are you doing with my necklace?".

  9. So, it still isn't summer here. Yesterday was the coldest June 22 on record in Seattle! Woo-hoo! By which I mean UGH. But now, I know just how to warm up. DVRed episode of Passion Pit, here I come. Cynderella, do you ever know how to paint an enticing picture with words. I love your style.

  10. I'm getting a late start with this TN - thanks so much for the recaps! I have to get caught up so I can figure out what the heck is going on!

  11. I forgot to set up my recording for Friday so I'm especially grateful for the recap. I almost like it better when you do it on the fly. Your comments are even funnier when you're guessing what's happening.

  12. Cynderella, sounds like you had a great beach party. I just had to re-read your recap. You're a very engaging writer.

By far the sentence I enjoyed the most was "I would have bounced by now or secretly slept with Enrique to make myself feel better." I love your lusty way of describing things.

Has anyone else noticed that when Alfonsina is having a conversation she doesn't want to have (that she does not initiate) she starts busying herself with something else? Last night with Gabino she kept opening her mail. A few nights ago when Dam was trying to talk to her she kept pretending to read a letter. It's an interesting way of telling the other person that what they are saying is just not that important. Or that maybe she's too busy to talk. I'm not sure what it means but it is rude and rather demeaning. But she is an expert at that. The actress rocks, no doubt about it.

I was blown away that Gael and stolen the amulet. Bad, bad boy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cynderella, You choked me up with the very first sentence. This is so hilarious. I was so happy for you when I saw all that exposure of male flesh, especially Gabino. Even a little topless Augusto though you didn't dwell on that.

Filling in the blanks that you requested...

Carmina made certain that Horatio didn't tell Dolores about the letter and told him that she had something for him to do the next morning and no one could see him do it, so it can't be anything good.

After their hot monkey love, as you noted Carmina denied an affair with Rosendo pointing out that she couldn't stand him. Well how about Paolo? She thought she had already explained that he forced a kiss on her. Gabino then? Are you kidding? She was trying to help him get business back with the procesadora. Edmundo then? Well poor Carmina has had it with all these accusations both true and false by now and says so... she'll deny everything in front of Edmundo or whomever he wishes.

Augusto isn't going to make her leave but she is free to go with whomever she wants. But... life is going to be Hell for both of them from here on out. Hmmm, isn't that life as usual in this family?

One other important revelation. Ingrid already knows Guido, and business wise, he is a screw-up, so they can take advantage of that by embezzling the procesadora and Guido will be blamed.

I wish that Kenia would go ahead and turn up sooner rather than later. I get the creeps any time we are at the cenote expecting for her to pop up at the worst possible moment. Frankly, even though I spent twenty intimate and enlightening weeks with a corpse, I prefer live people.

    Carlos

  14. Wow, cyn,
Wonderful recap, with your signature realistic humor…
    Loved:
Kenia doesn’t answer the door since she’s still dead somewhere in the Cenote.
Alfi doing it because she would like the opportunity to have hot sex with Guido one day.
And of course your description of last scene with BVDs and all the rest.

    Anon, loved this line.
Padre learned his budget is gon' be tight this year.

    JudyB,
ITA on your admiration for Alfie’s character,.. as villainess as she is, you have to admire how she basically holds her whip around every character in that town… no exceptions, … maybe 1.. Gael, who does not seem to give one iota what she says or thinks about him.

Btw, the phone call to Loopy was to check on Dam and also to try to blackmail Loopy into convincing Dam to come back home in exchange for her annual donation to the poor children in town… low blow indeed, and Loopy did not bite the bait… he knows her too much.

    R laO…
I don't know...Dam and Gael's matching hats, matching shirts of different colors, rolling around on the bed was all a little Brokeback Mountainy.

It didn't help any when the final line of this episode is Damian asking "What are you doing with my necklace?".

ITA 1000%... Gael was simply childish to hide the amulet when he knew how badly Dam wanted to find it and what it meant to him.

    Daisynjay,
Speaking of Gab, how the heck does he get his face to twitch like that when he's supressing anger? Very cool.
I noticed the same thing, I used to have a nervous tick type thing that my eyelid would start pulsating like that but it was totally random, not controllable at all, so if Salvador can actually control that facial movement… kudos to him… it was indeed very cool.

    And…
This time Gael screwed up, but I still love him.
    DITTO!! I can’t help it.

  15. Doris,
I'm on Kenia Watch. With every scene I keep expecting her body to pop up somewhere.
DITTO!! actually she could show up anywhere in the water ways of La Ermita by now...

Carlos, i am with you, the longer Kenya's body takes to show up, the creepier it will be... and hopefully whoever finds her won't be traumatized for life...

And about Dr T wanting to tell BegoneYa the truth and then keeping quiet, I think he kept quiet when she told him she had basically given up her friendship with Alfie to take up a friendship with Carmina and started to softtalk in his ear that she was going to turn back time and start over with him.. he knew then that if he opened up to her about his relationship with Carmina, it would be a double blow on her, about her relationship with HIM AND her relationship with Carmina.

  16. Cynderella thanks for your recap. I hope you enjoyed the beach and church. I'm glad you got an episode with so much beefcake. Disgusto's scene frightened me but thankfully other images soon replaced his.

Carlos - thanks for your additions and yes it seems life will be a continuing laugh riot with Elisa's twisted family. And yes I too hope Kenia's body shows up sooner rather than later.

Sylvia - great observation about Fina's unwanted conversations. The actress is really doing a great job and the character seems out of sorts b/c of Dam leaving and wanting to jump Guido. As daisynjay noted, he's got too much stuff on her but her pride and arrogance (toward Gabs and everyone else) will be her downfall.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Marta - good take on why the Doc kept quiet but I hope he doesn't have another bad day when Gossip Girl finds out.

  18. Oh Cynderalla, you lucky, lucky girl! I just watched the episode, so the final Brokeback Mountain scenes are VERY fresh in my mind. Loved the movie, and loved the set-up here. Both Dam and Gael looked very fine in their checked shirts and white hats, and even better shirtless and in their undies and towel. (I can also picture Joel McHale having a field day with that clip on the Soup.)

I don't think you mentioned in the recap that the first call Carmeany made was to Kenia's landlady to say Kenia left town and left a message with the landlady to give Kenia's one-year rent deposit to Carmeany. So Carmeany not only killed the girl, but is about to steal her money too. That's just cold. What happened to Kenia's car?

    ReplyDelete
  19. They had the Assgusto/Carmina bedside argument at Univision.com... here is the gist of it...
after she swears that there was nothing going on with Rosendo, Gabino or Paolo, he asks what about Edmundo? are you going to deny that you had something going with him?
carmina claims he believes what anyone says bad about her, and says she will deny the relationship with edmundo in front of anyone... he replies: i was going to split from you and leave you the house... but i don't feel like it anymore. Now we will live together. and we will appear in front fo everyone that we are a happy couple... but in here, we will live a hell!.. remember the doors of this house are open, and you leave anytime you want and with anyone you want... and you better leave soon, so you can save what is left of your dignity... if you stay, lets see how long you withstand it...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Doc needs to suck it up and tell BegoneYa sooner rather than later, although I understand why he pulled back at that particular moment. It will be worse if she hears it somewhere else. And as she herself, said, gossip spreads like wildfire in La Ermita.

Vivi, I forgot about that phone call to the landlady. I didn't understand it at all because why would a landlady give rent to anyone who asks? Carmeany isn't related. I would think any reimbursement would go to next of kin, i.e. mom or brother. I don't know what intestate laws are in Mexico or its states, but in California for example, if there was no will or living trust then everything belonging to Kenia would go to Ingrid.

Also, making that call was stupid because nobody knows yet that Kenia is dead and is not coming back. IF there were police in La Ermita, and IF they investigated Kenia's murder, wouldn't the landlady tell about the phone call that came before the body was discovered?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah Sylvia. It seemed like a dumb move on Carmina's part to me too. We'll see if it helps pin her down for the murder eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  22. yes i thought the same thing when i saw Carmina call Kenya's landlady to let her know she could re-rent the apt... duh!!!

  23. Thank you for this recap! You gave me many chuckles.

I usually watch Abismo, but sometimes sort of "coast" through it. So I sometimes miss things. These recaps help fill in blanks.

One thing I half-coasted through was a scene between Horacio and Lolita. I want to make sure I understood everything correctly. I caught the CCs (kind of), and they were talking about where he should set up his butcher business. She's insisting that they take Blanca's old place (where Blanca died, due to Horacio). Horacio is explaining that he's creeped out by that building, and he doesn't want to set up shop there.

If one doesn't know that Horacio is riddled with guilt, then his reasoning almost makes sense. A lot of people would be creeped out to take over a building where someone died a horrible death. Lolita blows off Horacio's concerns by saying that she's sure that them using that building will bring them good luck, because Blanca's spirit will be there or something. Horacio says something like, "Don't I get a say in this too?" and Lolita says something like, "If you're going to be my husband, you'd better do what I say!" and then it looked like Horacio just walked out. No answer, no explanation, just calmly walked out, with Lolita looking after him, puzzled, but not all that concerned.

Did I interpret this scene right? Does this mean that Horacio and Lolita are kaput? For Lolita's sake, it's for the best. But I'm a fan of the guy who plays Horacio (Brandon from Llena de amor!) so I'm enjoying him when I can see him. I couldn't believe that Lolita would be so clueless as to say "you'd better do what I say" like that, especially about something this important.

Glad to know that it isn't just me who thinks the guy playing Gabino is eye candy. He's my guilty pleasure!

    ReplyDelete
  24. i just rewatched the argument between Carmina and Kenya...
is Kenya that naive to swear that Augie would love her just by her telling him the truth and clearing Stefie's name in his eyes/heart? and why tell that to Carmina of all people?? the other woman who loves Augie?? bratting to Carmina that she is young and can give Augie the chance to bury the past and start a new live/love, besides the children she (Carmina) never could give him?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Elvira, yes you got that conversation right. The only thing, Horacio said that since Lolita is going to be his wife she needs to do what he says. He seemed serious. After that she replied that if he's going to be her husband he'd better do what she says. It sounded like she was jokey-serious. (You know, you make it sound like a joke but you are really serious.) I'm glad they're having this disagreement, especially if they both think they have the final word.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks for clearing that up, Sylvia! I suspected that I missed something there! That they were joking with each other makes sense. It puts it all into context.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And when Carmina called the landlady they showed a close up of the "dial" phone. Was that for aesthetics, or are dial phones still common in Mexico?

I noticed Carmina playfully slapped Ass's ass just like Begona slapped her husband's the previous night. She has one friend, and she is going to take on her mannerisms? And of all the stupid things to copy.

    ReplyDelete
  28. R la O, I noticed the dial phone and got the warm fuzzies just remembering them. So quaint and old fashioned.

I just remembered something. When Gabino was arguing with Alfonsina his head was right next to a big picture of a, wait for it, horse's ass! I kid you not.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Marta, I have never thought Kenia was innocent or naive. She gave a good imitation of it but was just as conniving as her mother and she knew TangelHo's Achilles heel. She just underestimated TangelHo's depth of evil and didn't think about how foolhardy it was to provoke this fight in that location. When I saw that scene it looked as though TangelHo was blocking the exit, as it were.

As to how long it will take for her body to surface, it could be as long as two weeks. In Abrazame Muy Fuerte the male villain murdered the female villain (played by Nailea Norvind) by choking her, then dumping her body in the nearby river. He weighted it down with rocks, however, and it was found ten episodes later when two peons went swimming on their day off.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cynderella,

I love your Friday recaps! I liked "her face hasn't melted off her body so maybe she's not as bad as we thought"!

And speaking of the mad for plaid Ermita folk, what is up with the Tangel-Ho's recent wardrobe trend? She looks like Dam and Gael's third musketeer. I remember earlier on she was in full ho mode w spandex and long, slinky maxi-dresses but now she's in plaid western shirts, floral western shirts...La Ermitas answer to Ellie Mae Clampett. It's like she's playing the role of dutiful ranch wife.

I have to add here that the fearsome foursome are seriously stalled. It was weird for all of them to go swimming and making out together in the cenote; insensitive of Elisa and Dam, and sort of pathetic of Paloma and Gael. Paloma's off her game, Gael is stealing necklaces. Come on people! You're supposed to be carrying this show! Now that Kenias gone they need to step up their game.

Remember when Carmeana asked Assgusto, hypothetically, what he would do if she had been unfaithful and he said I'd probably kill you? Why, oh why, can't he make good on his promise?!

    Thanks again, Cynderella!

    Katy

Cynderella, I loved your recap, so typical of all your work, great fun and filled with great laughs.  I have to agree with what others have said, "Carmina is in the church and yet, her flesh has not melted from her body,” was outstanding. Thanks for taking the time for us, sounds like you are having a really fun, busy (righteous?) weekend!

This was lightly touched on in the recap, Paloma has misinterpreted the Carmina pregnancy information, she implied to Gael that Augusto was the father, hinting that he had been running around on Stefe before she died. Paloma has no idea about the Rosendo Arango affair. Gael defended Augusto and then they hushed the conversation trying to keep this info from Elisa knowing it would hurt her. Both Paloma and Begonia are showing us the dark side of loose lips!

Our sweet Lolita is missing some drastic signals from Horacio, first  his sidewalk anger, now his super annoyed room exit when he doesn't like what she is saying. Sylvia, “I'm glad they're having this disagreement, especially if they both think they have the final word." I agree, at this rate, they may not even make it to his "Blanca murder" reveal!!

Carlos, thanks for posting the La Madrastra clip, that is just about the funniest I have ever seen!

Good or bad, right or wrong, Gael and Kenia have been the brightest spots in this novela....by far! The novela would have been tedious, silly and too dark without them!! They’ve both brought a breath of fresh air to every scene they’re in!!!!!

  32. As pregnant women don't "show" on TNs, nor will Kenia be bloated or nibbled on when she surfaces. I think Ramona will find her first.

Sylvia, that is so funny.about the horse's ass picture! I wonder if the symbolism was intentional?

  33. Carmina may not have been “paid for sex” before, but she sure was attempting to barter her loving attentions for the blue cottage, and its legal title, with Rosendo Arango in the beginning of our delightful little story!!!!

Paloma is the type of person that emotes so much, she never has time to observe anything around her. She is doing a frenetic high wire dance in an attempt to please Gael and isn’t even looking in his face to see his reactions! In the first of the novela, we wondered if they would be together, it is much clearer now that they are really wrong for each other and most likely won’t be together in the end. Maybe that’s just wistful thinking on my part though!

  34. Thanks for the recap Cynderella. At this point all the great lines have already been mentioned, but I'll mention them again lol

--Carmina in church with no melting skin.

--Kenia not answering 'cause she's still dead at the cenote.

Well, Horacio confirmed it: he just handed the letter over with no force from Carmina. I am definitely on hiatus from the Horacio table.

  35. Sylvia: Great funny recap. Here are a couple more things to add:

    1. Gabino wears that thing on his wrist when he is in bed nekked with Ingrid.

    2. Horacio really is a scuzz ball without a conscience. He gave Carmina Kenia's letter to make points with the boss. And, now, after his conversation with Gabino, he knows that Kenia is in mortal danger - too late now.

Right - what good did Carmina's call to the landowner do? Do you think she was checking to see if Kenia had been resurrected? Or - is she going to ask Horacio to help her dig a grave?

  37. Thanks, Cynderella! Funny, funny stuff!

In this episode of coupling, the best bits of dialogue were:

Pillow-talk between Ing and Gab after she proposes bleeding the Pro Ce dry and pinning the blame on Guido –

Gab (With an admiring smile): Eres una cosita de la fregada.
    (You’re a real f-ing piece of work)
Ing (with an answering smile): Pues tú no te quedas muy atrás.
(Well you’re not far behind me.)

And then the conversation between Lolita and Horacio where, as Sylvia points out, Lolita tells it like it is, even if she says it with a smile:
Horacio: Yo voy a ser tu marido, Dolores, pues tú tienes que hacer lo que yo diga.
(I’m going to be your husband, Dolores, so you have to do what I say.)
Lolita: Pues claro que no, chiquito. Si tú quieres que yo sea tu esposa, tú vas a hacer lo que yo te diga. Así que mejor vayas acostumbrando, sí.
(Of course not, little one. If you want me to be your wife, you’re going to do what I say. So you better get used to it.)

And oh yeah, I love the way Dolores calls Horacio “chiquito” here and in other places “chaparrito” (shorty).

I also love how Begoña calls Edmundo “gordo” when she’s being affectionate.

Still waiting for one of Carmina’s studs to call her “naranjita”.

The best visual in the episode – destined to go viral, I’m sure – the kittenish rolling around of our plaid-shirted galanes. Brokeback Mountain moment, indeed! (R la O, your comment is hilarious!)

  38. Thanks, NM! It was a funny scene, and like I said with it ending up over a necklace fight, was just the cherry on the Shirley Temple.

I heard Begonia call her hubby Gordo, and thought that if my husband EVER calls me Gorda, he's out of here. In LQNPA, Dani calls Miguel Flaquito and that is cute, but Gordo is pushing it.

  39. I think it's cute when an older couple calls each other viejo and vieja. It is quite common in these novelas!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sandy, I've heard "viejo" and "vieja" even among younger couples. BTW, your description of Gael and Paloma is brilliant:

"[Paloma] is doing a frenetic high wire dance in an attempt to please Gael and isn’t even looking in his face to see his reactions!"

Why did Carmina call the owner of Kenia’s house?

I think she was trying to establish a story that accounts for Kenia’s disappearance (“Kenia is leaving town tomorrow”) and stops people from asking too many questions about her.

Carmina isn’t asking for any money and doesn’t identify herself to the owner. But when people start asking around, that person can say “Her friend said she decided to leave suddenly.”

Carmina plans (I suppose) to have Horacio dispose of the body in the wee hours of the morning. Not the Orange One’s best plan – so many ways for it to fail. (I may be the only one who still has hopes for Kenia and that we may have all been led astray by that lovely Ophelia-like image. Sigh.)

  41. The irony of the Empress Alfonsina is that she herself has always been someone’s pawn.

She barks commands and believes that those who obey belong to her. She seems oblivious to the rage she triggers in her ill-used toadies. Gabino swallows hard, twitches and takes it out on someone else. But all along he conspires against her, often literally sleeping with the enemy.

Meanwhile she shuts herself off from her brother and her son, the people who would truly love her and protect her interests if she would only allow it.

Both Ingrid and Paolo warned us about Guido on Friday. Ingrid said the word on the street was Guido’s business failures were associated with fraudulent practices. Paolo called his brother a “vividor” who, having failed to marry off his daughter into the Arango fortune, was having a go at the Black Widow.

But the hubris of the AlphaBitch makes her vulnerable to Guido, the GQ version of Gabino.

In short, those of you now sipping limoncello at Guido’s table on the Patio of Lowered Expectations -- you may want to consider a discreet switch to tequila shots with don Lucio.

  42. "Dam and Gael's matching hats, matching shirts of different colors, rolling around on the bed was all a little Brokeback Mountainy."
That was an uncomfortable scene. I had that same thought flash through my mind when I saw that.

"(I can also picture Joel McHale having a field day with that clip on the Soup.)"
Youbetcha. LOL Reminds me of another clip he had fun with a few years ago, from some telenovel, two guys sitting on a bed with dumbbells in their hands . . .

Does Edmundo really think that at this point in time, his wife will NOT find out who he boinked?
Man up, come clean, and suffer the bitter consequences of your actions, dude!

R la O - I miss the old dial phones, having to use a pencil (eraser end) to dial in order to protect the manicure. Ah, the olden days . . .

Katy - We can only hope Augusto will remember, and make good on, his promise to Carmina.

WHAT I REEEALLY want to know is --- does Gabino take that bandana off when he bathes/showers, or does he put a big plastic bag over it?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Vivi and Sylvia, I don't think that Carmina was asking to receive Kenia's advance deposit from the renter. We joined her in mid-conversation where she said:

"Yes, I appreciate that very much, but truthfully, truthfully, my friend told me that she is not interested in recovering the deposit." ... "Yes, I know that it was a year's rent." ... "Beginning tomorrow." ... "Well. all the same, thank you very much."

I think that she is trying to make it look like Kenia suddenly decided to split and I think that the little job she has for Horatio is to move Kenia's stuff out.

  44. NM - nicely put about Alfonsina. What a cut for Ms. High and Mighty to be someone's Plan B. Especially someone like Rennie...er, I mean Guido.

LOL Doris!!!!!!!!!! The plastic bag when Gabino showers!!!!!!!!

  45. You gotta admire the resilience of the Tangel-ho. She seemed to have a moment of post-homicidal shock. But man, did she put that behind her quickly.

While Alfie has only had the illusion of being in control, Carmina really HAS been in control. She is behind the chain of deceit and misery. She is the one who lies, not the one who is lied to. She’s the thief, not the victim.

In fact, I’m taking a seat in the Citrus Grove where it’s crazy and dangerous but exciting. [NovelaMaven opens eyes wide and bares her teeth. The dog whimpers and trembles. Much gentling and reassurance are needed.]

"WHAT I REEEALLY want to know is --- does Gabino take that bandana off when he bathes/showers, or does he put a big plastic bag over it?"

So do we have any reason to believe he ever bathes or showers?

Yikes! I would be cracking up if I wasn't cowering here under the Augusto table.

  48. Does Lolita have a table? That's the only one I want to be sitting at right now. How does she do her braid like that? It's connected in an even circle in the back. If we were at the table together, I would ask her.

  49. About Guido's attire, I admit that the peach Polo shirt doesn't do much for his appearance, on Thursday while at Casa Arango when he was chatting with Alfonsina, he was wearing a beautiful white Guayabera that had dark embroidered vertical stripes down each side. Sylvia, you remarked on Alfy's fabulous outfit but you didn't mention how spiffy Guido looked.

I don't often lust after other men's clothes, but I want that shirt.

    Carlos

  50. NM - Down, Girl. That's a good girl. Let's leave the bared teeth to Carmina. They reflect so much better against orange.

Carmina did have a quick post-mortem recovery. What did the trick was Alfi walking in and overhearing Begonia bad-mouthing her. Carmina was just delighted to witness that (as were we).

  51. Wonderful recap, thanks so much!!

**Why did Carmina call the owner of Kenia’s house?

I think she was trying to establish a story that accounts for Kenia’s disappearance (“Kenia is leaving town tomorrow”) and stops people from asking too many questions about her.

Carmina isn’t asking for any money and doesn’t identify herself to the owner. But when people start asking around, that person can say “Her friend said she decided to leave suddenly.”

I totally agree with the above...that's where my thoughts were headed. The absence of any type of CSI in the TN makes me think that her little orange head thinks that that call to the landlord will answer any and all questions about Kenia's whereabouts, and I think she doesn't expect for that body to ever show up. I also had the thought that we better not see Horacio creeping out in the middle of the night to dig any sort of hole but we shall see.
Question: Does Carmina know that Horacio killed Blanca? If she does, how did she come to find out? I simply cannot remember!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Carlos - that was a nice shirt. Maybe we can sneak it into our Tal*Mart collection. However, you do realize we sell no un-monogrammed shirts, so you need to come up with an I Heart _________, or I Sit at _________'s Table, or This is the Pits or My Other Shirt is Clingwrap or some other snarky motto.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ooooh, Kathleen! I like how you think! Maybe Kenia floated downstream and was discovered by Ramona who gave her some breathing herbs and she's been in hiding.

Carmina overheard Horacio and Gabino arguing over the Blanca incident. He's felt beholden to her ever since.

If she has him help dispose of Kenia's body, she'll lose the dominance in that relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kathleen,

"Does Carmina know that Horacio killed Blanca? If she does, how did she come to find out?"

Yes. She overheard Gabino and Horatio discussing it at the Procesadora and confronted them about it. I think that she has reminded them both several times.

    Carlos

  55. P.S. Love the eye candy scenes. I paused the TV several times. I can only do that when hubby is sleeping beside me...I LOVE those jeans of Gabinos, the ones with the pockets on the butt.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Carlos,
Thanks for the clarification. I was pretty sure I had heard her remind them or allude to the sad event but I must have missed the episode where she overheard them. Now I know. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks Carlos and Kathleen for clarifying why Carmina made that call. She isn't as dumb as I thought.

If Carmeany hadn't lucked out and heard that conversation between Horacio and Gabino, Horacio's life would be much easier now. He wouldn't be Carmeany's lapdog.

I didn't read his reaction to Lolita in that argument as hostily, just frustration since he can't exactly tell her he doesn't want to do biz in the place he murdered someone. But I did love Lolita telling him she wears the pants (although she never wears pants), and I especially love it when she calls him chaparrito and chiquito. Love Lolita! I think she will be just fine once the horrible truth comes out.
