Refugio Para el Amor #35-36 Tue 6/19/12 DESTINY (aka Rod Torreslanda) Comes Knocking on Paz and Luci’s Door

Just the bullet point facts tonight folks, typed up in real time. Fill in any nuances I might have missed. If anyone would like to try their hand at recapping, we’ve got a few open spaces.

-Violeta brings Claudio Luci’s family’s deeds. Claudio is not surprised the Torreslandas made Luci’s life hell. He starts the investigation into the properties. He’ll miss Luci, but will keep in contact with her. He’s sure Don Aquiles is playing dirty with the properties issue.

-The Gossip Girls come to spread the word that everyone knows Paz’s house is for sale by Don Aquiles, and some gorda is interested in buying it. Magda is sure Luci’s lawyer friend will solve the problem.

-Violeta tells Estella she thinks it’s so romantic that Rod came looking for Luci. She’s sure he’ll continue looking for her, like in a fairytale. Estella says she gave him the money to return to Rosa.

-Rosa tells Padre what’s done is done and now it’s time for them to continue with their lives. She wants Padre to convince Pato of this. She also wants to now be at peace, which will be easier now that Aurora look-alike Luci is gone. She’s not going to lift one finger to bring the truth about Aurora’s baby to light.

-Claudio has some sad time at Aurora’s grave about Luci leaving.

-Rosa bitches to Connie about Rod returning to Mexico to see Luci, and gloats about getting rid of Luci. Connie is frustrated by her sister’s crazy attitude. Rosa says Connie would do the same to protect her family. Connie denies it and points Rosa to the truth about what’s really bugging her—Luci’s resemblance to Aurora. Rosa admits it.

-Claudio gets more legal red tape run around in his quest to move his wife’s and child’s remains.

-Gala has a fit with Brigida over the phone because her homing device on Rod stopped working. Brigida will get the info for her on Rod's location.

-Julie and Gala are determined to find out more about Luci’s past. Julie is sure Rosa will continue to be an ally. Better a divorcee for her son, than a servant.

-Rod hears Rosa admit her hatred for Luci is because she looks like Aurora. He gives her back the money she gave to Luci and reams her out. Max comes in and Rod announces that he’s going after Luci. Rosa’s threats against Luci have just made him see more clearly how much he loves Luci. Rosa has a breakdown and weeps on the floor. “Don’t do this to me Rodrigo, please.”

-Rod tells Pato Rosa’s latest tricks against Luci. Pato tells him that if he really loves her, then look for her and make her happy!

-Paz and Madga are stunned and happy to see Luci back.

-Rod asks Violeta where Luci went. (Can’t he guess?) Violeta isn’t talking. Rod begs and pleads his case.

-Luci tells the moms that she didn’t have the skills and experience needed to help the paralyzed young man she worked with, and missed them (Paz and Magda). Magda wonders if maybe she could have recommended Vio for the job. Uhm…Vio's happy with the job she has. Luci does not reveal the truth. Luci assures them that her lawyer friend is still working on the properties case. Magda wonders if this lawyer has other interests in her. Nope. He feels like a father to her. Luci is no longer afraid of Aquiles. She’s shocked to hear Aquiles is selling their house, but has faith that Linares will help them.

-Aquiles tells Procopio that what he did to him (the beat down) is just a taste of what he could do to him. He’s still plotting to get his little dove, Luci.

-Luci’s painting a pot when there’s a knock on the door. It’s Rod! (She really should have asked who it is now that she’s back in Don Aquiles country. She got lucky.)

-Padre visits Pato, who seems to be in a better mood. He shows Padre what he can do with his right hand. He’s decided to dedicate himself to recovering. He’s in a good mood because he’s sure Luci will be back. Rod’s gone to get her.

-Rod hugs Luci and kisses her passionately. She pulls away. She came back to the pueblo to get away from this impossible love. He clarifies that he didn’t take Gala to Miami with him. He loves Luci and wants to be with her.  He embraces her again and says he knows she loves him too. Rod says he’s decided to confront the whole world to be with her. (His mother, Gala, etc.) She starts ranting about how impossible it all is, so he shuts her up with another passionate kiss.

-Gala whines to Rosa that it’s her fault things developed between Rod and Luci, since she warned her about it. Rosa doesn’t want to hear it. She thinks they need to do something drastic. Gala recommends they hire an investigator. They want to find something in her past to use against Luci. Frigida has just what they need. She knows of someone who's been threatening Luci, with the initial “L.”

-Luci doesn’t want to be the cause of Rod separating from his family. All he needs to know is whether she loves him, then he’ll be prepared for anything.  He’s pleased she’s not calling him Joven anymore. He wants to hear her call him Rodrigo. She’s got a better name for him…Muchachón (mushashón). They seal it with another kiss.

-Luci and Rod make like Demi Moore and Patrick Swazye in Ghost and play in the clay. He asks her to marry him and gets a face full of clay when Luci caresses his face in surprise. He wants to ask her mother formally for her hand. He rushes out to prep for the big ask, and Procopio follows him, and then reports back to Aquiles.

-Pato initiates a meeting at Torreslanda to tell them he’s taken over some projects because Rod’s gone to San Francisco del Alto (Het Het) to find Luci. Max loses it. He calls Rod to asks what the hell he’s doing there on personal business when they have so much real business pending in D.F. Rod feels his personal business is more important and hangs up on Max.

-Lastra gets frustrated that he can’t reach Luci. He’ll use the brother to get to Luci. Ivan brings up how interested Aldo seems in their business.

-Lorenzo wants to make Lastra and the Torreslandas pay for what they did to Luci. Vio thinks the best vengeance will be for Luci to marry Rod Torreslanda. He who laughs last, laughs best. She wants Lorenzo to be careful about messing with dangerous people like Lastra. Forget vengeance. What he needs to concentrate on is Linares getting their property back.

-Luci is grinning from ear to ear when Magda and Paz return. She tells them Rodrigo came to find her and wants to marry her. Mom and Madga want an explanation about who this guy is. Who is he? Where did you meet him? Magda starts running around making coffee and getting things ready.

-The Torreslanda guard tells Lastra to take his ass to the street and away from the gate. Lastra then calls the house and gets Frigida. If Luci doesn’t respond, I will come looking for her at the house. Frigida can’t believe her luck.

-Rod actually shows up. I was worried Aquiles would break his legs or something. Paz nearly passes out when she hears his full name—Rodrigo TORRESLANDA. Madga catches her before she falls. They have her sit down. She catches her breath and tells them she’s fine. Paz keeps staring at Rod and chugs down some water.

-Flashback alert! Young gardeners Paz and Galdino, and some little boys playing in the background (Rod and Pato?) Luci, Rod and Magda want to take Paz to lie down. She doesn’t want to be rude to Rod.  When he strokes her shoulder in concern, she nearly passes out again.

-Rod tells Paz that he loves Luci and wants to marry her. Paz wants to know if his parents are in agreement. I’m a grown man and no one interferes in my decisions. Magda wonders if they aren’t rushing things. Rod points out that they actually met long ago, right here in the pueblo. All this DESTINY is too much for Paz. She decides to go lie down. Luci takes her and Rod worries about her to Magda. Magda just thinks it’s a mother’s natural reaction. She’ll be fine. What Paz wants most is the happiness of her children.

-Paz asks Luci who is this young man and how did they get to know each other. Doesn’t she know there’s a great difference between them. Luci tells her she knows this is the man that she wants to spend the rest of her life with and she loves him. Paz asks his parents’ names and nearly has a heart attack when she hears Maximino and Rosalena TORRESLANDA. She fakes being ok and has Luci leave her alone. Then she has a major meltdown. “Help me Galdino! What am I going to do with this heavy truth?”

-Magda brags about Violeta being a night nurse. Rod is surprised to hear this but doesn’t argue the point. Ariche comes over and wants to know who the muchachón is. He’s not pleased to hear he’s Luci’s novio. He looks the big guy up and down.

-Frigida reports the latest Lastra call to Gala.

-Julie gossips with one of her friends about how Rod could dump a prize like Gala. Julie keeps the Rod has a disease story going. Gala’s health is more important than the money she would have gotten, plus, Gala doesn’t need the money.

-Gabriel and Marcos tell Pato that Rod can check on the foundation they started while he’s up north. Pato does not want them to bug Rod with work. He’s off seeking his happiness. Pato also looks really happy.

-Paz pretends to be asleep, but is really crying in her room. Magda knows something is wrong and that it has to do with Rod. She begs Paz to stop crying and to calm down. Paz hyperventilates about Rod’s parents and how they’ll react.

-Rod tries to win Ariche over by having him give him a tour of the pueblo. Rod and Luci take every moment they can to kiss and coo, which annoys Ariche. The gossip ladies see Luci and Rod kissing in the plaza and assume he’s from the capital. They drool over Rod. Procopio also spies on them, but gets a nasty surprise when Ariche chases him off with his slingshot and some well aimed rocks to the butt.

-That milkshake Hannah is playing with looks delicious. Anyway, Hannah tells Lula all the drama going on at her house. She is sure, by continuing her studies, Luci will be a better wife for Rod than Gala. Boris comes over, and Lula leaves. He’s mad that Hannah’s had no time for him, and asks her to be his novia.

-Max wants Oscar to pay off the judge in a big way. Oscar doesn’t see the point. Plus, there is no way Claudio has enough money to beat them at the bribe the judge game. Max doesn’t care. He just wants to make sure the judge is not on Claudio’s side.

-Lic. Barrera is also worried about Judge Avila and tells Claudio. Claudio knows that the judge is a key piece (pieza clave) in all of this.

-Oscar asks Connie out to dinner, saving her from having yet another futile conversation with Rosa about leaving Luci alone.

-The three witches, Gala, Rosa, and Frigida meet about Lastra’s call. Gala uses the caller id to get Lastra’s number. She plans on calling him and does as soon as she gets back to her office. We’re both interested in finding that woman. Let’s do it together.

-Hannah tells Pato she told Boris she’ll tell him tomorrow if she’ll be his novia. (Clear as mud, right?) She’s not sure if she likes him that way, plus there’s the Lula issue. She decides Melissa will be the best person to give her advice, rather than Pato.

-Paz admits to Magda that Rod is the son of the woman who gave her Luci.

-Ariche is bragging to Rod that he’s the best with the slingshot, and Luci is pretty good too. He demonstrates his skills, then has Rod demonstrate. But Rod hits the balloon vendor instead. Oopsies! They buy all his balloons to make up for it.

-Procopio reports to Aquiles that some big, blond, blue eyed, city guy has come to steal his little dove away. No one will take his dove away from him!

-Paz continues the tale of how Rosa gave her the baby and money and made her promise to take Luci away so that she’d NEVER have to see her again. Paz doesn’t remember much about Luci’s parents. Just that the husband fell into disgrace and the mother Aurora died in child birth. Magda wants to know why Rosa didn’t keep the baby out of the goodness of her heart, as she was friends of the baby’s parents. Paz doesn’t know, but Rosa was always cold and distant. She hardly ever said a word to them. Magda thinks it’s DESTINY that put Luci back on that woman’s path. Paz is scared of what’s to come. Magda says it’s time Paz told Luci the truth. Luciana has a father who’s probably out of jail and looking for her. Luci has a right to be in that house as a lady of society, not as a servant like us.

-Rosa argues with the Padre again. Her job as a mother is to open her children’s eyes when they make an error. Later at the house, Julie rubs it in Rosa’s face that she can’t control her kids. Rosa says she’ll die before she lets Luci set a foot in her house.

-Pato tells Hannah that Luci would never come back to their house as a servant—she has too much dignity. If he were Rod, he’d marry Luci without thinking twice about it.

-Luci and Ariche dance in the plaza and Rod cuts in. Much happy dancing, swinging, and kissing.

-Don Serapio congratulates Paz on Luci finding such a great novio. Paz barley holds it together.

-Lorenzo tells Polo that Aldo wants access to the Inferno office. Polo thinks it’s a bad idea.

-Boris pressures Hannah into saying yes. She doesn’t look so sure. She interrupts Pato’s musings about Luci to tell him he now has a brother-in-law. Pato tries not to laugh at her.

-Rod and Luci stroll the streets of Het Het and shout out their love. She takes him into a little cave/amphitheater filled with candles, and they spin and shout their love at the top of their lungs.

-Another group of three witches (Gala, Rosa, and Julie) meet to talk about the investigation into Luci. Oscar and Connie interrupt. They are going on a date. No Julie, we did not invite you. Aldo calls to say he’s going out too. Rosa wants to make sure he’s not slumming with some low class girl like the other men in the family lately. Oscar and Connie go on their merry way (but not before Julie invites herself on a 3-person date with them that weekend), and leave the witches to do their bitching.

-Rod asks Luci once again to marry him in the romantic amphitheater of twinkling candlelight. They end the episode with a long, gentle kiss.

Avances: Gala and Lastra unite evil forces. Paz tells Luci and Rod that they will suffer.

  1. Yay Vivi--You got to recap Rod and Luci's one hour of happiness before the sh*t h*ts the f*n. It was sweet, in between Paz' suffering. I wonder who lit all the candles? R & L weren't apart long enough for her to do it. Oh, well, it's like most intimate scenes where a whole room is lit with candles and you wonder where on earth they all came from.

BTW--I know why I was so confused by the "two" women in the barrio. One was Estela all dressed up with her hair combed and pulled back, and the other one was Estela in a housedress with her hair not arranged. Two completely different-looking people.

Procopio reminds me of the head greeter in the inhabitants of OZ after the house falls on the witch. Can't remember his name now.

Even though you were incredibly faithful to all the action, here's one little thing. Where Luci is trying to explain to the two mothers why she left the house she was working in, she said it was because she didn't have the skills or experience to help Pato. (I guess they knew he was an invalid.) Anyway, that's when Magda chirps up that maybe she could have given the job to Vio, after all, she's a nurse. That's when Luci covers it up and says she's happy where she is.

Oh, small thing, but the "business" Pato was inquiring about that Rod could take care of while he was up north is the Foundation he was starting.

Loved the little dart throwing between July and Connie. And Oscar, ever the caballero, suggests that all three of them can do something together over the weekend. July accepts before he can even finish the sentence!

Ok, Fuete Man is about to grace the pantalla.

  2. Thanks Anita! I will add the clarifications in. Always hard to catch everything when you're typing and watching, without pausing the recording, in real time.

  3. Hi, Vivi,

Amazingly fast recap. I keep debating about whether to watch this TN or not. The parts I like are, as mentioned by others, the beautiful clothes on the main women
and I like the business talk and the aspects regarding the fraud and the devious nature of Max.
I like Robert Blandon in this role.
For my part, I am not picking up any chemistry whatsoever between GS and ZV, Rodrigo & Luciana.
    I don't enjoy watching them together - very 2-dimensional,
    no passion.

In contrast,I am fascinated by the other novela you are commenting on
with respect to the lead romantic duo, Willy & Sammi in Corazon Valiente. While much of the plot is weak, I find this romance to be absolutely delightful. Similarly, the relationship between Emma and her former bodyguard in that novela is also charming, and there are times when the romance between
JM and Angela is fairly good --
at other times, a little wooden.

I enjoy reading your expressive commentaries far more than watching much of this TN.

  4. Hey Floridia-

Yes, this has a lot going for it and the weakest link is the chemistry between the two leads. I'm hoping they grow into it. While Corazon Valiente has amazing chemistry between one of the main couples and a mess of a plot. You can't have it all!

But I am enjoying all the things you pointed out about this tn. Really enjoying the back story and the corporate fraud mystery to be solved.

  5. Vivi you didn't miss a thing truly amiga. This was wonderful and great. You always catch everything good. Hate the three witches, Rosa, Julie and Gala. You'd think Rosa would be nervous about an investigation into Luci, that will open a HUGE can of worms. Love your DESTINY theme too. Also the destiny that Sabina mentioned struck me with your title. Sabina did tell Luci this destiny was loaded with tears.

Poor Paz I thought she would have an infarto, when she heard who Rod's parents are. I agree with you about the flashback, it was Paz and Galindo and Pato and Rod. So Rosa has always been cold. She hands over the baby and the money and I loved how Paz kissed baby Luci, while Rosa the witch, sneered.

Padre should keep after Rosa to ask forgiveness of Claudio and Luci. He isn't too pleased with Rosa.

Loved what Rod did. He finally, finally got some rocks. Love how he told his parents off. Wonderful, finally. I think those lights were set up by Rod somehow. Loved the ampitheater. Reminded me of Italy. The sound in those things are amazing.

Uh, oh, now Don A knows he has competition. He isn't liking it especially since Rod is so much younger than him. Poor Copio.

Max is so dirty, and Oscar is looking more uncomfortable all the time. I hope Oscar won't go down this path with him. This doesn't look good for Claudio. Glad Claudio got the deeds from Vio so he can best Don A.

Can't stand Julie, trying to horn in on Conny and Oscar. Oscar ought to tell her to bug off.

Gala and Rosa so deserve each other. I don't know why Max won't do something about Rosa. Enough of the screeching from her already. I am really glad Rod heard her screeching and the Aurora hint too.

What is Hanna doing??? I thought she was going to get Lula and Boris together and now she will be Boris' novia?

Love the chisme ladies from Het Het they are too funny. They are always on the scent of the fresh chisme, lol.

Frigid I hope the anvil hits her good, whenever that will be. She has caused so much trouble for poor Luci.

  6. Vivi, the recap was perfect for me since I have no time. Can someone tell me what Lastra thinks Luci owes him?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Vivi, another fabulous recap. As always, exceptionally well written and full of details. Also enjoyed your embedded vocabulary: "key piece (pieza clave)". Gracias.

Amigas, I must respectfully state that I think the chemistry between Rod and Luci is wonderful! I thought the last scene in the ampitheater was romantic and wonderful. One of the reasons I like Gab Soto is that (to me), he seems totally earnest and believable. I thought it was lovely. But, we agree to disagree and that's what makes commenting so much fun.

On that note, I was wishing that our couple could stay and fight the (many) opposing parties together. For once, it would be nice if the main couple could get together before the last 5 minutes of the novela.

Gala is already getting on my last nerve. You lost, so give it up already. And where ever you go, please take your horror of a mother with you. Ack.

    Thanks again Vivi!

  8. Madelaine- You're probably right that Rod arranged for the candles to be set up. He did disappear after the first proposal, and he didn't go buy a ring or change his clothes, so he must have been doing something. I'm going to go with that theory.

Diana- I agree that the setting was beautiful and romantic. I'm not knocking the chemistry between Rod and Luci too hard. In fact, I think they are purposely playing Luci as being more hesistant and reserved. And as you said, Rod just seems earnest. It's just that we're not getting that sort of playful, crackling kind of chemistry that makes a couple really fun to watch. That's ok, because it's not really in their personalities and they haven't had enough time with each other to build that level of comfort with each other yet. Some of that playfulness was coming out the more time they spent with each other, under the watchful eye of their mini-chaperone and the whole town, that day.

Emarie- Lastra thinks Luci owes him his dignity. Easy to pay back, right? LOL! He can not accept that some poor little girl not only stood up to him and slapped him around, but also won in court against him and caused him to spend a few days in jail. The only way his ego is going to heal is by humiliating Luci in some major way, and probably by also raping her.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Madelaine- About Hannah, Boris and Lula. When they made up many episodes back, Lula actually told Hannah to give Boris a chance. Lula can't handle being in the same room as Boris any more, but she doesn't want to stand in Hannah's way.

It doesn't seem that Hannah has ever had a boyfriend before or even been interested in a guy. I think she's mixing up the feelings of friendship she feels for Boris and the flattery she feels from his attentions, for romantic feelings. But she's only now starting to have those feelings for someone-- Lorenzo. When she daydreams it's Lorenzo she's thinking of. This Boris thing won't last long, and Pato knows it. That's why he was smiling at her like she was a 5 year old talking about her "boyfriend" as his future brother-in-law.

  10. Can I say how much I like "Muchachón" as a term of endearment. Hey Big Boy...;-)

I like it almost as much as "Monstro" which is what Silvia Navarro's character Fernanda in MEPS called her novio Sergio Sendel, and he called her "Peque" in return. I was always tickled by that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Vivi--You provided and excellent recap and we thank you for the commitment to a second night in a row. It's a good story. I've learned the hard way how hard it is to take notes real time. You are a wonderful writer, real time or "fake" time!!!

Ok, we agree to disagree on the candlelight. I thought Rod disappeared to go look into the foundation business.

He did not know the pueblo very well. After the fair, Luci said, I'd like to take you to a very special place--which to me meant the amphitheater. Soooo, it was just a directorial decision to provide a different and romantic place for the two of them to declare their love.

For me the chemistry is so, so, but I like that fact that they *are* just getting to know each other and these are the right kind of smoochies to be having. She's a pueblo girl and probably a lot more reticent, but Luci certainly didn't hesitate to kiss him in public--something that might raise eyebrows (which they did).

I liked the chemistry between Fernando Carillo and Adela Noriega in Maria Isabel--a storyline which in the last couple of nights were identical to Refugio. Poor pueblo girl comes to the big city and ends up working for a wealthy widower and his spoiled daughter. He realizes he loves her and they declare that....Wait for It, Nada y Nadie will come between them, family, society, etc. And, of course it does. I'm not looking forward to the crowbars that are going to force these two apart.

Gala and Rosa together form a terrible force. Better the two lovebirds stay in HetHetHetHet (that's farther away from HetHet).

  12. Anita- Well I guess that theory about Rod arranging the candles is wrong. Oh well! :) I'm just going to assume that the fairies did it. Or maybe, the town always keeps it lit like that because it's a sacred place.

I just watched the airing of Maria Isabel. I hated the galan at the end (the callous affair), but loved him for most of the tn, up till they got married.

I think what sets Luci and Rod apart from that story is that there's a real back story/mystery that links the lives of Luci and Rod and his family. So this story will not just be about keeping Rod and Luci apart, but also about getting justice for Luci's father and her, revealing a bunch of hidden truths, and reuniting Luci with her father.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Vivi - I'll go with your theory of fairies too :). I do like what Luci called Rod, Muchachon. It so fits and I agree about Dam and Fer in MEPS with the nicknames, they are very cute.

I like the channeling of Ghost though, lol. All that clay all their hands and faces. I think they are such a fun couple, getting to know each other this way. I am glad he came to Het Het in search of her. I would have been disappointed if he had sat in the D.F. whining and crying and getting back with Gala. Speaking of crying, I haven't seen a galan cry in a long time. He did in a couple episodes here.

Thanks about Hanna. I too think she is over the moon about Lorenzo, and Boris is going to be a poor substitute for that.

Agree with Diana too, about the main couple Rod and Luci staying together for once and fighting together. Not like MEPS where it is almost at the end and Fr/Ed and Fer are still NOT together.

Vivi- I like the mystery too. That is what hooked me on this one. I really like the flashbacks too. I hope they have more of them to explain exactly what happened with the fraud. We've see a part of how Luci ended up with Paz and Galindo.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow Vivi, you are batting 100.

Because of Monday's amazing recap, I decided to tune in and was able to watch the last 45 minutes of this, so you "pulled me back in".

Absolutely loved the dancing, it was good to see Rod laid back. I also felt the candle scene was quite romantic, enjoyed that. I got the sense that all the actors enjoyed that scene dancing, balloons, injuring people, LOL.

    Vivi, I loved your comment

Yes, this has a lot going for it and the weakest link is the chemistry between the two leads. I'm hoping they grow into it. While Corazon Valiente has amazing chemistry between one of the main couples and a mess of a plot. You can't have it all!

Exactly how I feel, but I too am still giving our leads a chance. I just love Pato, he seems to be the glue. I know it's not going to happen, but I believe I will indulge myself for a bit and dream that he ends up with Lucy.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nellie and Madelaine- Ditto. I really enjoyed the balloon, dancing, and ampitheater scenes. This is really the first time, since the first episode, when he and Pato were in Het Het rock climbing, that we have seen Rod happy and relaxed. Maybe they need to stay there for a god while.

I'm also happy that Pato has decided to recover for himself, and although he is totally in love with Luci, is 100% supportive of Rod pursuing her and making her his wife.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Vivi thanks for this wonderful recap. Hang in there as the new one is coming soon.

Though I too am not moved by the leads (sorry Diana), I think the reason is b/c of Pato. He's immobile and yet so passionate about Lucy. Hopefully when he's mobile again he'll find someone whose a combination of Luci and Melissa.

I really enjoy most of the other characters and want to see justice for Claudio and Luci.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Karen- Yes, I really want a new character introduced for Pato.

    Our parings so far:
    Luci-Rod
    Hannah-Lorenzo
Vicky-Aldo (they are both flawed people, so although she's playing him right now, I think they could work in the long term)
Violeta-Polo (I'm not feeling this Marcial guy)
    Paz-Don Serapio
    Connie-Oscar

Pato, Claudio, Magda and Melissa need love interests.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Pair-Ups--
Didn't you all think something clicked between Claudio and Connie at the lecture? I know Connie can't have both men, but it would certainly be DESTINO if these two ended up together. Although I like Connie and Oscar together, it would be easier for Oscar to find another mate than poor Claudio who's been in a romantic and passionate desert, with fading memories of Aurora, for 20 years.

While we're at it, Melissa does need someone since she was unlucky in love and life over on LQNPA.

What should we do about Max and Rosa? He seems to be comfortable in his marriage situation with a little side-candy to take care of fantasy and sex and Rosa doesn't want any social boats rocked by desertion and/or divorce. Hmmmm.

And if he gets found out? As Rosa is right now, she'd banish him from her bed, but not her house.

Anyone wondering if Galdino remembered Roselena as just plain Rosa Torres when she married Max Landas (?). Instead of just adding her husband's last name to hers, they agreed to adopt the combined names for him, their empresa and their children? OTOH, in that flashback, Roselena was already married and had two schoolage boys, when she handed Luci to Paz, so...help....Galdino AND Paz would have known her by both her married names (as is customary), so why tell Luci to look for Rosa Torres.
    Anita

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anita- Galdino was having trouble speaking as he was having the heart attack. He kind of panted the first name, then croaked mid sentence as he was saying the last name and just trailed off. I think he was trying to say the full last name but just didn't finish.

Yeah, Connie and Claudio would be a good match too. Maybe she can have them both? :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Poor Lady MacBeth with her constant washing of her hands even the priest is getting sick of her. One can only hope that Rod and Luci get married in los boonies or all hell is sure to break loose. Rod is a stoneless weakling and if Lastra hints that Luci is a soiled dove he isn't likely to fight for her.

Oscar is an idiot. He obviously prefers Conny but allows the man eater Julie to butt into his plans.

Paz has to be the most annoying character ever.

Having seen a previous version of this show I'm interested in how some of the characters have been tweaked making them more interesting. Max is a rat bastard but in this version he really seems to love his children which is more than can be said for his saintly wife.

In other versions the Pato character's paralysis was hysterical thereby making it believable when he finally walked but here Pato's paralysis doesn't seem to be a set up for for the usual novela miraculous healing (too bad because he is such a stronger character than Rod).

Brandon Peniche may not have inherited his father's typical galan style looks but he certainly seems to have inherited some of the talent. I find myself watching his hands in his scenes. He holds them at an awkward position and never moves them which is really difficult to do.

I really like how this story moves forward every episode instead of the usual rehashing and regurgitating that goes on in so many of them.

  21. Decie Girl- I'm glad to hear you say that this version is improving on the last version. You don't often hear that.

I know they are setting up this revelation of Luci being the girl at the club to be big, but I just don't see how/why it would be a big deal. Rod was there that night. He knows what happened. Plus, Luci has a legal case on record that details everything and shows how she won. I will be VERY disappointed in Rod if that somehow changes his view of Luci.

I've been seeing Arturo Peniche pop up in some of the older tns I watch over the weekends. Right now he's in La Ursurpadora. I think Brando looks just like him at that age. He just wears his hair much shorter. I just think our standards for galan looks have changed.

  22. Vivi---Your recap is sooo helpful.

I hope that you are wrong about a possible rape--OMG no! I hate that guy Lastra, I can barely stand to look at him---what a disgusting person.

    Gala and Frigida---What witches.

Question---How did Copio's broken leg heal so fast?

  23. Hey Gringo! Well, all things Procopio related are done for comedic effect. When Don Aquiles kicked his crutches, he said he knew Copio was just exaggerating and making a bigger deal of the beating than it was (so, no broken leg). But next time he betrays him, he'll be hurting for realz.

Yes, I really hope that Lastra is never alone with Luci, because he really wants to humiliate her, and rape seems to be one of his weapons of choice.

  24. Karen and Vivi, I hope for someone wondeful for Pato too.

Karen, years ago we were commenting on Gabe Soto in QE and here we are again! It was "hot doc" vs. "chef hawt" then! I think most of us felt Gabe can be slightly wooden at times. But, when he appears to be happy, his smile is bright and infectious and he illuminates the screen.

I see a spark for the leads which I am hoping turns into a sizzling fire.

  25. Vivi thanks for the list of couples and ITA w/you regarding Brandon. He's handsome and though not beefcake, his intensity is captivating.

Diana - I hope you are well. I think GS has gotten much better from QE. And hope the spark between he and Luci grows. I remember LVO and I liked his character there and the chemistry with Gabriela (Galilea Montijo) was great.

And again to me if Pato was walking he'd be the galan. Pato is more decisive, intelligent, and sensitive than Rod. Though Pato has his bouts of immaturity, his character as written beats Rod (at least to me).

  33. BTW--I know why I was so confused by the "two" women in the barrio. One was Estela all dressed up with her hair combed and pulled back, and the other one was Estela in a housedress with her hair not arranged. Two completely different-looking people.

  34. Yes, this has a lot going for it and the weakest link is the chemistry between the two leads. I'm hoping they grow into it. While Corazon Valiente has amazing chemistry between one of the main couples and a mess of a plot. You can't have it all!
