Mundo de Fieras, Wed., October 4
Paulina says that she has family problems too. Her mother died in an accident when she was very young. She has an older brother but now that he is married and she has gone to Barcelona to study, they have grown apart. Her father married a widow with a daughter of her own age. Paulina and her half sister get along but aren’t friends. She is really close to Luisito, her half brother who was in an accident and can’t walk. She prays every day that he will get better someday.
Her cousin Pedro also lives in the house and although he is a little weird, she likes him a lot and he is like a brother to her. But more than anyone she loves her father. But her father isn’t happy. It is the fault of his wife but she believes that in some place there is a woman who could make her father happy and she will go and find her for him. [While she is talking, we see all the characters Paulina is talking about and the woman who could make her father happy is Mariangela].
Back in Mexico, Demian is eating breakfast like an animal. He sends the servants out. His evil associate, Tiberio, says that he doesn’t trust one servant, Simona. Demian asks if Tiberio has contacted Chacal. T. says not yet; his line is always busy. Demian says to tell this Chacal that he needs to talk to him right away.
In the kitchen, a servant asks Candelaria why she is so quiet. C. says that she is worried about a friend who is very ill. This friend has confided a secret to her but the time is coming when this secret must be told.
Gabriel tries to leave the bedside of his wacko wife for a business appointment but she goes bananas and accuses him of seeing another woman. She rips the bandages off her wrists and says that she will kill herself.
A drunk, lecherous guy attacks Mariangela and is trying to rape her. Just in the nick of time, one of her students, who I believe is named David [how appropriate], use a catapult to throw a stone at the would-be rapist. Mariangela escapes and the would-be rapist says that she will pay.
Gabriel staggers out of the hospital with his nice shirt covered with blood stains. Leaning on his car, he says that he can’t take it anymore. Demian shows up says that he would like to know if G. is capable of defending D.’s wife, Regina. G. says yes, but not in the way D. thinks. G. knows how much Regina has suffered from D. treatment of her. G. and Regina’s relationship was long ago before she met D. D. says he doesn’t believe it and believes that J.C. is the proof. D. believes that J.C. is not his son. G. is impactado.
Meanwhile J.C. and Paulina are kissing passionately. [We know what Damien said is not true because otherwise J.C. would be kissing his half sister instead of his first cousin.] When things get hot and heavy, Paulina says they should wait. J.C. agrees. He doesn’t need proof of her feelings for him. Besides, she says it would be her first time.
Back at the confrontation between the brothers, G. says that he was never intimate with Regina and J.C. is D.’s son. The conversation immediately degenerate into D.’s grudge about being raised in poverty by his mother while G. had every luxury. D. says that it is his mother’s fault that he is crippled. G. says that on the contrary, it was D. fault. He was a thief running from the police when his leg got run over by a train. D. lost his eye because of an infection that his mother drank up the money that would have paid for treatment. G. asks how all this is his fault? He reminds D. that he shared the fortune he inherited with D. and taught him the construction business. Now D. is taking all G.’s best clients and leaving him with debts. Finally, after all this stuff about the past, D. gets to the point of his visit. He has signed the deal to get the property G. wanted. G. should not compete with him.
We see Chacal go into a secret room where he has guns and wigs and things indicating that he is a Master of Disguise. He gets a call from Tiberio – Demian has a job for him.
Leonardo stands up to a motorcycle gang to defend a friend.
Otilia and her husband, Federico, come to the hospital to inquire after Joselyn. Miriam tells them she is out of danger. Otilia asks Miriam why she is always going after her husband. What does she want from him?
Gabriel finds out from Candelaria that the woman he saw in the rain and at the party is named Mariangela. Gabriel reassures Luisito that his mother is ok and will be coming home soon. On his way out of the house, G. gets a call from D. D. wants to buy the building where D. has his construction company. G. says it isn’t for sale. D. says he will get his mother or father in law, Mirium or Clemente to sell. They are partners or associates with G.
Tiberio baits Rogelio about Damien’s recent success in the land purchase. They degenerate into throwing punches at each other.
J.C. and Paulina kiss in the Plaza San Marco and on a gondola and give a travelogue about Venice. Meanwhile Karen looks up J.C.’s picture on the internet and finds him very handsome.
At the prison, Dolores gets hypnotized to try and remember what happened when her brother died. She has an over-exposed memory but only seems to remember that it wasn’t her that killed her brother.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Joselyn has an over-exposed memory that appears to indicate that it was she who killed her first husband and Dolores’ brother, Edgar. No, now it appears that it was Miriam who killed Edgar but Joselyn knows about it and is not too stable. Miriam has to slap Joselyn to stop her hysterics just as Diana enters the room. Joselyn responds to Diana’s inquiry about how she is by saying that she is fine – all marriages have problems. For example, Diana’s husband has a lover. ‘You knew, right?’ says Joselyn. Diana starts to respond but Joselyn interrupts, ‘All men are the same. If I found out Gabriel had a lover, I’d kill her.’
At the priest’s office, Mariangela is trying to telephone Candelaria but she can’t get through. The priest says that he would like to go with her to her mother’s house but he has to say a mass and hear confession. ‘No problem’, says M., ‘you’ve done so much for us already.’
At Gabriel’s office, G. asks Rogelio if everything is ok with his wife. She seems sad. Everything is fine assures Rogelio.
Leonardo has a flashback to his wedding day. His wife collapses at the altar and dies. A friend [this looks like the head of the motorcycle gang] guesses his thoughts and tells Leonardo that he will find another love. Leo gets a call from Candelaria. Mariangela has told her that Aurora is in a bad way and she needs a favor…
Demian calls Paulina in Venice and pretends to be her father.
The would-be rapist sets Mariangela’s house on fire.
Candelaria tells Clemente that all these years she has told him that she doesn’t know where Aurora has been but she really did know. Clemente is impatactado
David, the slingshot kid, is visiting Aurora when would-be rapist sets it on fire. The kid was trying to get an unresponsive Aurora to get up when the TiVo ended.

I think it's going to have to turn out that J.C. is not Demian's son at all, that the mom had an affair, because first cousins of identical twins ... ugh ... well outside the approved telenovela approved guidelines...
Miriam has already stage-whispered to us that Joselyn is not Clemente's daughter. Could Otilia's husband Federico be the father? (So far, Otilia gets the Phyllis Diller award.)
I wanna punch out that little Luisito.
Leonardo arrived in time to rescue Aurora and David from the burning building.
Great work, Jean!
I also thought that the conversation at the hospital indicated that Federico is Joselyn's father.
Karen mentioned something about Paulina when she was googling J.C. but nobody can know yet that Paulina and J.C. are together.
Concerning Damien calling Paulina, I thought maybe he was just taking an opportunity to harass Gabriel's daughter but it could have been a phone switch. Usually, they make it obvious when a character takes another's cell phone but I might have missed it. I paid very little attention to the Venice travelogue since it just represented a period without meaningful dialogue. If you want to find out about Venice, get a travel book.
My general thoughts on the novela. It was extremely weird to see the sets for Alborada used in this novela, especially the Guevara palace with the pond and the bridge and all.
I agree about the kid. All kids are novelas are obnoxious.
I know we all love Ernesto Laguardia but the character of Leonardo is really sappy. Also, he doesn't look like he could run 100 yards, much less a marathon. He is going to fall in love with Mariangela and lose her to Gabriel, that much is obvious. Maybe he could become a priest - he certainly crosses himself enough and we know he almost had a vocation in a previous novela. ;-)
While I was watching this episode my boyfriend (one of those skinny marathon runners, damn him) saw Ernesto/Leonardo breaking the tape and was incredulous that "the pot-bellied softie" would be cast as a runner. (Then I reminded him that he got his skinny butt kicked by a 75 year old woman at his last marathon. She was in stupendous shape and ran six marathons a year but still...) And we both totally cracked up when Ernesto started crossing himself and talking to his dead wife's picture. I hope he stops that silliness soon.
I was rushed this morning. I should have said all kids on novelas are obnoxious but particulary crippled kids. I agree with Ellen that this kid will certainly walk again.
The actress who plays Dolores was the lead baddie on Contra Viento y Marea. She was quite good - at least she is zoftig - not one of those women who look like they might die of starvation at any moment.
great job on the recap. thank you for all the details and the hard work.
just a note, the voice singing the opera music during the Venice scenes is Andrea Bocelli.
The scene where Karen is reading and printing off the article about J.C. from the internet newspaper - I thought I heard Karen say to herself that J.C. and Paulina are "hermanos-primos". I guess that translates to sibling-cousins or first cousins.
