La Verdad Oculta #036: Roberto's cunning plan takes a glorious digger
At the hotel, Caramelo desultorily picks at her new, healthy dinner, already pining for the street food she grew up on. After she retires, Juan José whispers menacingly to Asunción about posing to Mario as a wealthy hotel buyer in his vengeance plan to ruin the Ávilas through buying up their properties one by one.
Asunción wishes a good man like Juan José wouldn't change, concentrating instead on his future; but Juan José insists what can't change is the rage he feels. Later, talking quietly with Elsa about car buying, Juan José flashes back to happy days dreaming with Piedád about his ambitions at the hotel chain.
When he bitterly regrets being framed, Elsa reminds him he would never have met Gregorio and reaped the huge fortune he now possesses. But Juan José claims he'd gladly have forgone the fortune to avoid prison and the death of his mother.
Next day, Gabriela, the lovely bride, and pretty Julieta arrive at the crisply decorated hotel wedding chamber, attended by the club waitresses and pianist from the taco feast. The registry judge arrives, who is definitely not Roberto's plant; and finally an ill-at-ease David appears.
Gabriela smiles through the ceremony, with David pensive and nervous. Meanwhile, Adolfo phones Roberto at home digging for facts about the marriage; and Roberto can only deny it, but promises to dig deeper. At the hotel, Gabriela happily signs the registry; and then after great hesitation, David also signs.
Taking the marriage license from the judge, Gabriela follows David, who's turned to leave; catching up with him, he apologizes sadly and continues away. Meeting up with Roberto at the elevator, David furiously blames him for getting him in all this trouble and exits into the arriving car.
Roberto heads for the wedding, where he gleefully mortifies Gabriela in front of the laughing guests by announcing it was all a big, fat joke! At Mario's, Asunción arrives dressed to the nines and mashes on Dora while she shows him in. Clumsily grabbing a few cigars, he mystifies her, gracing her with a flower from one of their own pots.
Asunción delights Mario with his hapless, unwitting jokes; luckily, Mario only thinks Asunción is pleasantly casual and funny for a business man and instantly likes him. At Gabriela's, the two sisters weep piteously and wonder at the cruel joke -- and how if Santiago knew, he'd kill the jokers.
Instead of having Leonardo arrest them like Julieta suggests, Gabriela decides to give them a piece of her mind herself and exits. Meanwhile, Juan José visits the architect studio and is disappointed to find Alejandra absent; he can hardly hide his disinterest in Mina showing him their auto-CAD plan display instead.
At Mario's, David stalks upstairs without taking Roberto's call from Bertha; and Alejandra sets up a work detail with Perez for the remodel, oblivious to Bertha's agitation at the pot boiling around them. In contrast, inside Mario's office Abelardo is all-too-aware of Asunción's embarrassing gaffs.
After Abelardo gives Asuncíon details on firming the hotel sale at the notary, he rolls his eyes at Asunción happily lampooning Abelardo's name as something you'd call a bird, which elicits a laugh from Mario. Asunción would rather Dora show him out when Abelardo rather does.
On their exit, they pass the two furious Guillén girls entering, getting past pugnacious Bertha. Gabriela yelling to speak to David brings Mario around the corner; and he escorts her to his office. Beginning to weep, she gives him the supposedly fake marriage license; but he amazes her insisting the document is legitimate.
Mario quickly claims David escaped the wedding on account of Mario's health; bids her to wait; and heads upstairs to roust a sullen, pouting David out of his bed. Julieta joins Gabriela and rejoices with relief to hear the good news.
Upstairs, Mario berates and amazes David with the fact that he replaced Roberto's ringer with a real judge and that the couple are truly married. David apologizes but resists, accusing angrily that Gabriela's involved with Carlos. Mario furiously rejects the notion, explaining the story cooked up by Roberto; which David seems liable to grudgingly accept.
Mario insists David play along to save Gabriela's feelings -- and man up to his responsibilities. David and Gabriela meet alone in Mario's office; and when he simply asks if she truly loves him -- and she simply assents -- David can't resist taking her in his arms again and thoroughly kissing her.
Outside the office, Mario mystifies Bertha and Alejandra by requesting a celebration dinner for David and Gabriela's marriage. Alejandra comes to her senses and congratulates them; but not Bertha, who launches herself out of the room. The plan is to hold the church wedding next week after Santiago returns, and Mario is elated.
At the condo, Carlos is astounded to learn from Adolfo that Gabriela resigned to get married; he doesn't know who the husband would be either and is frantic to know if it's true from Roberto. At Roberto's, when he gets an angry visit from Bertha, who expected he would be on her side helping her, he insists the marriage is fake.
He's explaining the fake judge and thinks they should wait to see what happens, when the fake judge, Olvera, arrives; and Bertha leaves with the promise Roberto will get back to her. Alone, Olvera angrily throws the facts into Roberto's face: that a guy visited him, demanding that the marriage would indeed take place -- and be real!

Wow. I actually thought David would stop short of committing a "fake" marriage, but I guess the green-eyed monster is stronger than good sense. What a truly cruel, cruel thing to do. I HATE Roberto. I'm so glad Mario stepped in to make sure the marriage was legal. I'll bet Gabi's got some lingering doubts - when the groom rushes off and the crowd is laughing at you - well, it's just not a good start to a marriage no matter how many excuses the groom manages to come up with afterward. And Bertha is right there to exploit it. Did I mention I hate Roberto?
I can't wait to see what else happens this week!
I thought once David saw how lovely and happy Gabriela was, he would forget the nefarious plan, sweep her up in his arms and declare his undying love. Xint, while is was obvious David was feeling guilty, I agree and am beyond disappointed he continued and saw the ruse through. While that amazing kiss at the end might have lessened Gabi's pain (I even softened a bit), how can she trust him?
Both David and Juan are acting very ungalan-like. Once Juan meets Mario, hopefully he will abandon his vengence schemes.
Ale's congratulations was tepid at best. Sorry, but except for dear Mario and Gabi, just about everyone acted atrociously last night. The one bright spot was Asunción and Doris.
Thank you Jeri! Wonderful - as always.

Dora said he's impulsive and they both agreed that it's a always a big problem with him; so I wanted him safely tricked into marriage by Mario with the woman he's destined for.
I was really very happy his evil self made him do it. He is going to be blissful! And I am going to love it. And so is Mario.
using his brain most of the time.
He wants to make things right for Juan José and get things right with
G and D. He made the effort to talk
to G the day before and to send in her sister to the office after the wedding so she would not be alone
I trust that Roberto will be barred from the house on all counts
from now on. Thanks for the recap.
David is almost a male version of Val from STuD but not as dense and gullible since Val is the ultimate anti-heroine. They both will believe the worst without considering the source and without actually talking to the accused. Now that David and Gabi are married, I hope there will be smooth waters ahead. However, Carlos was really miffed and we know how competitive he is with David. Roberto is such a liar and mischief maker and now he is getting himself into further lies to cover himself especially to Adolfo. Not a good idea to lie to a cold blooded killer, Roberto.
J J seems destined to be seeking revenge for a while. I hope he doesn't spend all his vast fortune buying up the hotels to ruin the Avilas and ruin himself and the Genoveses in the process. Hopefully, he'll end up part owner of a successful mega hotel chain like The Donald but with better hair.
Can't wait to see if Gabi totally accepts David's excuse of his dad being sick or will he be open and unafraid and tell her the truth about his jealous plan for revenge. And will Dora and Asuncion hook up eventually? I love Mario too..what a great Dad he is to David and Gabi trying to make them happy together despite themselves.

I'm thinking David must already view his dad as a brilliant miracle worker, because he hardly batted an eyelash when Mario did his amazing end run around him.
And in fact, Mario is kind of a miracle worker. Who else would envision such a gigantic rouse as the one he plans with Santiago.
Thanks again Jeri,Aribeth and Vivi for all the recaps and links. You are all simply the best.

Oh yeah, it was an awwwwweeesome episode, wasn't it.
You mentioned Alejandra's reaction - I loved it because it was so real. I guess later she'll warm up towards Gabriela.
It's hilarious; I really like it. Adolfo is constantly worrying and having things go wrong. Félix gets shot.
Carlos is not a total villain, but he gets a lot of trouble. Kinda sweet. :D And it makes you wonder why crooks go in for crime, LOL.
I truly believed that David would confesss to Gabi and not go through with the fake wedding.
Yay, I laughed at Roberto face when he found out his plan went wrong. He was laughing at Gabi's expense and being so smug thinking he was such a mastermind of evil planning then finding out in the end he was outsmarted. That was good. What an awful suit he was wearing at the wedding. That man has such bad taste in clothing.
Mario and Asuncion really hit it off. That was nice to see. Wonder if he and Dora will be a twosome.
Ale was in shock and that is why she reacted in that way. She had no idea that David was interested in Gabi. Bertha was rude though running upstairs to her room.
I am waiting to see Santiago's reaction when he finds out.
At least in this episode JJ and Elsa didn't fight.
