Cuando Me Enamoro #125 Thursday 10/13/11 It’s Harvest Time And The Crop Is...Anvils.
We review last nights hugs and Fina’s evil mug.
Adri and Matias check into their room. She’s trying to work out the sleeping arrangements (me in the bed and you in the chair) and he’s in a sharing mood (why don’t we both sleep in the bed?). She admits she wants to make love with him but not yet; she wants their relationship to mature a bit. He says if his princess wants to wait then they’ll wait. I’m starting to like this guy again. There is another scene of compliments, kisses and Adri even tears up a little with all the “te amos”. Matias goes off to take a shower, a cold one I imagine. On the bed Adri gushes at how perfect it all is.
Isidro tells Inez that although getting the Guadalajara offer was a flattery (halago) he has everything he needs in the DF and if Inez wants to stay there then he will remain with her and Andresito. Whoa, are all the guys getting over their grumpy sickness? Maybe the women are getting over their stupid virus too.
Renata revels in Jero’s spoonage and thought bubbles she doesn’t know what she’s going to do, or he either, but the only thing she does know is she doesn’t want to be separated from him, ever.
Matis sleeps uncomfortably in a couple of wicker chairs while Adri takes up the whole big bed. A fire alarm goes off which frightens her. Matias wakes, pronounces it a false alarm, and suggests he and Adri watch a movie together to calm down. He jumps into bed with her and snuggles down as the program starts. Isn’t he the sneaky one?
We get a beautiful shot of San Felipe Lighthouse in the morning, then cut to Adri and Matias, sound asleep in what appears to be an innocent clinch.
Adri gets her 7:00 wake-up call wishing Señora Monterrubio and her husband a great day. She whispers this tidbit of info in his sleepy ear which makes her giggle and him a little randy.
Over in the DF Adri’s best friend has also enjoyed playing missus, but now Renata says she’s got lots to do and has to leave. Jero wants her to stay, he’ll cook her a yummy breakfast. She insists on leaving but not before laying a huge passionate kiss on him. “Do you love me?” he asks. “With all my heart,” she vows.
Regina admires her wedding dress in the morning light. A shadow falls on her, figuratively, and that shadow is Berta. She throws some cold water on ‘mommy’ by asking if it was the dress she was going to use to marry Antonio? Uh...no. Regina wants Berta to help her look for an apartment; she’s got to sell the house in order to pay back Jero. Natually Berta thinks it’s fine to freeload for a while and postpone payback but Gina wants to pay Jero back ASAP. It sounds like Gonzo is also having money problems while EM gets back on its feet. Regina tells Berta her inheritance is not available until she’s 25 but the money is all hers and she can spend it as she likes, for now all she can give Berta is all her love. Berta makes the eye-rolling ugly face behind Gina’s back. OK Berta, it’s comparison time. Make a list if you have to. Start with - Fina: Wants all the money including mine. Regina: Doesn’t want a cent of what she believes is my money.
Hons and Gonz are also discussing finances. Hons insists Gonzo doesn’t owe Malafina anything at this point. She’s a fugitive from justice (profuga de justicia) for pete’s sake and she deserves NADA! Even though Gonzo keeps his promises he should break this one and not give Fina his house. In a few days his house will be available and he and Gina should move into it and redecorate to get rid of Fina’s bad vibes (mala vibra). Gonzo will suggest it to Regina but when they are able to they will get their own place. Gonzo says that his princess Renata should ultimately get the house. Roberta will get her inheritance so Renata should get hers. (Ooooh Berta and Fina are gonna be so pissed!)
A convention-goer mistakes Adri for Matias’s wife and Matias doesn’t correct him. (The guy also shamelessly checks out Adri’s shapely behind!) She’s a little annoyed that Matias didn’t bother to correct the guy but Mat thinks it’s fun if people think they are married. Adri claims it’s a lie but Matias says it’s an honor for him that anyone thinks she is his wife.
Gina aks her BFFs Coni and Inez to help with her wedding. Inez announces she’s not moving to Guadalajara after all, squealing hugs all around. Regina offers to let Inez use the Regina’s Hope facilities for Inez’s new foundation. It’s love fest time.
Malafina is in a different wig. I liked her last one better. Berta meets her in a cafe and they pretend not to know each other while having a covert confab. Berta needs money. If Fina wants the info she asked for then she’ll have to pay for it. Fina suggests Berta ask her new mama for money. Berta reminds her Gina doesn’t have any money left and Daddy doesn’t either at the moment. Berta adds that Fina told Berta without her (Fina) Berta would have nothing, but she doesn’t have anything now. She threatens that she could scream right now, turn Fina in and she wouldn’t lose a thing because she has nothing to lose. She’s learned from mommy dearest and says the pupil has surpassed the teacher. Fina’s scary evil face says she thinks otherwise.
Jero runs into a smug Augustin at the airport. Jero says ‘his woman’ will be along later. He warns Augi to say away from his woman, his people and his hacienda. There is another scene of chest-thumping and tie-measuring and Jero, confident Renata is on his team forever, confidently stalks off. Augi thought bubbles they will see who laughs last. When Jero finds out he is Marina’s baby-daddy Augi will use it to get Renata to return to him, bwahahahaha!!
Matias gives a boring speech about how EM maintained clients and business during their recent hardship, yawn. His pride is infections, however, and he is well-received by the audience. The lech (Sr. Ibarolla?) from earlier says he’ll look Matias up in the DF which seems to please both Matias and Adri. They go off to enjoy paradise.
Marina arrives at work and she has a visitor. She is impactada when Renata walks through the door and asks, “Is it true you are expecting Jeronimo’s baby?” “How did you find out?” “It’s true then.”
Maritata confirms it and Nata reveals that Augi spilled the beans. Maritata admits she was not planning to say anything to Jero because the baby was not planned. Nata and Marina are amazingly mature. Most telenovela characters would be screaming at and threatening each other. Nata comments that Jero has a right to know, doesn’t he? Mari asks Nata what would she do in her place? Would she want a man to be with her out of a sense of duty and not love? Because that’s what might happen if Jero knows. Marina tells Nata the one that Jero loves is Renata. Mari doesn’t want her baby to grow up with a father who is with them out of obligation only. It would have been easy to blackmail Jero into a relationship but that’s not her style. “Renata, the one Jero wants to spend his life with is you, not me.” Brava Doctora! These two are definitely over the stupid virus...for now.
Now we have an uncomfortable conversation where Lazaro pleads with Kari not to leave town. She sadly tells him he doesn’t love her and gives her ring back. All of a sudden they are interrupted by Alfonsina staggering into the room. She’s scared because the baby’s on the way!
Marina hopes that Nata won’t say anything to Jero either. Nata says her relationship with Jero has had many obstacles. Mari admits that her relationship with Jero was very crowded because Renata was always there between them. Nata apologizes sincerely and Mari insists Jero doesn’t have to know her secret.
Over at La Bonita Manuela, Herminia and Matilde gossip about Jero and Renata, Jero and Marina, Renata and Augi, and Laz and Kari. Manuela pronounces that Jero and Renata are meant for each other, and instead of grumbling (rezongona) Mati should thank God that Cupid is back in the house.
Now we get an unplugged concert in two different keys superimposed on Renata. Wait a minute, the guitarist is actually on the beach behind her. She recalls happy times with Jero and thought bubbles she doesn’t want to tell Jero about Marina and renounce the most marvelous thing in her life. Your recapper gets a break during Renata’s many flashbacks. “Oh my God what should I do?” she weeps. More flashbacks, crack open a beer for myself, cry with Renata.
Jero, oblivious to her torment, happily arrives home and hugs everyone. Carlos wonders where Renata is and Mati asks “Who died?” Nobody, Renata just had stuff to do and will be there later. Mati hopes so because solo arrivals mean bad luck. Jero hugs Mati and tells her no bad luck, his relationship with Renata is a pure blessing.
Super Lazaro carries Alfonsina into the clinic and the nurse sends some kid out to get Marina, pronto!!
Manuela is busy slapping some masa silly when Renata arrives at La Bonita. Manuela is happy to have Renata there and thrilled that her love with Jero overcame all obstacles. Renata neither denies nor confirms.
Back at the beautiful Sea of Cortez Matias and Adri continue to play Mr. and Mrs. He says he doesn’t want anyone or anything to ruin their paradise. The camera pans up into the palm tree. Do anvils grow on palms?
Jero and Carlos visit the vineyard and discuss the future vintage of San Rafael wine. A lovely vision approaches, it’s Renata of the vineyard come to give Jero a kiss and a hug. She admits her outstanding business was with Marina. There is a secret she needs to discuss with him. It’s not about her (Renata) however (sin embargo) it affects her. Jero says now he’s getting worried. Renata doesn’t beat around the bush - “Marina is expecting your child.” And tonight's episode ends with about six different camera views of Jero's cara impactada.
Avances: Berta calls Augi to blab that Renata and Jero are practically on their honeymoon. She vows that this love story will be a short one.
Vocab:
halago = flattery
hay alumnos que superan al maestro = there are pupils that surpass the teacher
mala vibra = bad vibe
profuga de justicia = fugitive from justice
rezongona = grumbling, nagging
sin embargo = however, nevertheless

How impressive were Renata and Maritatas? Wow. I am stunned. Don't they know they are in a telenovela and should be pushing each other into a swimming pool?
So Isidro and Inez are not going to Guadalajara? Now there's a major plot twist.
I also liked Fina's A-line hair better than this purple grape looking thing. And really anything is better than that croissant she usually wears on the back of her head.
Fina and Roberta are going to be so upset if Renata moves into that house. I hope Gonzalo doesn't expect Regina to re-locate to the House of Horrors. Just in time for Dia de la Bruja. I really like Regina's nice yard. Remember that ugly monstrosity Antonio picked out for them?
Speaking of which.... did Fina ever tell Antonio which of her hijas was really Regina's? If so, maybe he could spill the beans that it is Renata?
In this month's Spanish People magazine there is a little blurb about Sylvia Navarro being a spokesperson for Garnier. You think?
I wonder why Roberta doesn't leave Renata/Jero alone and go after Augie. They are certainly compatible. She is mean to the core, no matter how much we hope she'll thaw.
Rosemary la Otra
But nothing compares to CME!!!
Rosemary LO, I've wondered about the Berta/Augi thing too. Maybe she doesn't go after him because she knows he's obsessed with Nata and she would just lose yet again. By helping him cheat on his sister she is kind of sticking it to both of them.
I loved the British version of The Office and I love the U.S. version too. Maybe more because it has so many iconic characters.
The guitar playing in the background on the beach reminded me of the guitar player in There's Something about Mary.
Off to bed. Looking forward to reading everyone's comments in the morning.
Thanks again, Sylvia!
I too am totally blown away in admiration of the Marina - Renata scene. It was so intelligent I almost thought I was watching a documentary. Wow, way to go writers. The two talked with such candor and honesty with no spite or jealousy. I was unsure at first if Renata should blindly accept Marina's request to keep Jero in the dark but as part of their newly forged relationship she chose immediate and complete honesty with him. I loved it.
I was stunned by the conversation between Nata and Tata too. Was thinking, yippeee, welcome to the 21st century. Two intelligent women acting intelligent. Such a concept!! Now let's also continue the trend of the men getting rid of the "stupids" and see where Jero lands after he closes his gaping mouth.
Frustrated with Isi. So he lost the "stupid" virus, but not long ago he lambasted Inez for not wanting to move and now, Oh well, guess it's no big deal.Inex--give him a good head slap.
I was cheering at the thought of Nata getting the house. Of course, hate the said house, but I have hopes that maybe with some redecorating it will get rid of that mausoleum feeling. But just to see Berta and Fina's reaction will be priceless.
And my request to the writers: You're on a roll with some nice TN turns, now don't make us have to see anything happen to that baby. Hate the hanging over incubator scenes and the fact that newborns can't seem to cut a break in TN's unless they are born at the end.
And as I was channel surfing to get to the weather channel, I just saw a commercial on Uni for Mira Quien and there he was--a shirtless Fernando Colunga (apparently he will be on). My morning is now complete and with that vision I will proceed to work. Happy Friday!!
Several nice twists in this one:
First: A PSA for actually waiting a beat or two before jumping into sex. And in case we didn't "get it", Adri warbles about how much it means to a woman that a man doesn't put sex first, but rather respect and love. Even if inaccurate, very nice!
And Renata, FIRST verifying the baby story. And then being completely honest with Jeronimo RIGHT AWAY, not waiting an eternity while misunderstandings roil. Nifty.
And of course I ALWAYS enjoy your take on things. My favorites this time...
"More flashbacks, crack open a beer for myself, cry with Renata"...I can just see you Sylvia!
And "a vision appears....Renata of the Vineyards"...playing with fire there, lady, but it's funny.
Well, clearly Renata and Marianela are noble and wise; Roberta and Fina are sinking lower with each episode. Shall we hope that some incredible (and unbelievable) galan will come along to wed our doctora and make the little bambino his own? Otherwise, tragedy is clearly in store for our good and exceedingly fertile lady doc.
I too am in awe of the adult way in which Marina and Renata dealt with their issue. I loved your take on that Rosemary la Otra. You are right they seem not to remember that this is a telenovela.
As always Sylvia you had me chuckling. I enjoyed your references to the grumpy men & the stupid virus infected women..
I also enjoyed --Matias goes off to take a shower, a cold one I imagine.
--crack open a beer for myself, cry with Renata.
and --Do anvils grow on palms?
But my favorite line fro the show is Mati reacting to Jero arriving solo again and asking "Who Died?" She made me laugh out lout. .She has a healthy dose of cynicism that one -- or just her superstition as she remembers the last time
Güera
In addition to what everyone has noted, I thoroughly enjoyed "eye-rolling ugly face", "hugs/mug", and my favorite "Chest-thumping and tie measuring". Most excellent!
Your descriptions are so much fun: "Matias goes off to take a shower, a cold one I imagine. On the bed Adri gushes at how perfect it all is" was wonderful.
I am also softening at Matias, his sweet personality is surfacing again - how we've missed it. It's also nice to see Regina happy and I take consolation in that her happiness will be even greater once she finds out Regina is really her daughter.
Happy Friday all!
Diana
I also liked that they showed Nata really THINKING about it. Imagine that! This is not easy for her, but I am so glad she came to the right decision and told Jero the whole truth right away. Her loyalty is to Jero, not to Marina. She doesn't have to keep Marina's secret for her.
On the whole, this was a really good episode for all our couples-- Adri and Matias were sexy and cute; Carlos and Matilde continue to be adorable; Inez and Isidro are finally completely back on track; Gonzo and Gina are making their way down the aisle soon; and even with the sadness and shock of the baby news, Nata and Jero seem determined to make it work this time. I really can't predict what he'll do about the baby news, but he's certainly not going to do anything silly like give up Nata to be with Marina for the baby. Anywasy, Marina already said that's not what she wants. So our main couple will just have to suck it up and deal with a difficult situation, together.
I have decided to be like Nata and wipe the slate clean with Jero. He is being the loving, devoted, adoring husband he should have been from the start, and I really like the way he now treats Nata. The way he picked her up and held her in that chair did it for me.
OK. Off to the last few hours of the training. We only go till 1pm today, then it's back to home!
Just wanted to add my voice I too was very much surprised that a TN did not have two women catfighting. Bravos to the writer.
I seriously thought that before Renata approached this subject she too would be preggers. I'm so glad I was wrong.
I'm anxiously waiting to find out why it's been so calm between the two women, but will wholeheartedly accept if this becomes a new TN aspect of women being mature.
I was amazed that Renata and Marina (Nata y Tata... I like that) were so calm and amiable.
Though I wish that Renata had given Marina the opportunity to announce the pregnancy to Jerry ("You tell him or I'll tell him."), I think she did the wise thing. What were the chances that Augie would keep his mouth shut?
About how far along is Alfonsina? I'm worried for her and her baby.
Rosemary la O:
"I have tried to watch the British version but have a hard time with the accents."
I find that the CCs are often even more useful for the British shows than for the TNs.
Looks like Isidro is back on his meds.
Carlos
I usually have the CCS on when I watch the British shows.
I hope when the MR Manor is redecorated they get rid of those gigantic balls at the bottom of the stairs. Those things drive me nuts.
Judy, I was blown away by the little PSA on waiting a while before jumping into sex. I'm glad Adri is remaining sensible while she and Matias explore their relationship.
Mati's wisecrack "who died?" made me laugh too. She covered well by saying last time Renata was a no-show it was because Adri's mother died, but her point was well-made. She's absolutely right that Renata's absence means something is amiss, even if the guys don't recognize it.
ITA with you guys that Renata handled the challenging news of Marina's condition with great maturity. First confirming directly from the source, then providing the information to Jero. Both steps were very difficult for her but she fearlessly did what was right. I'm very curious how Jero will handle this information tonight.
I'm worried for Alfonsina and her baby, too. I can't remember how far along she is but she is showing.
Maybe Isidro realized he was fighting a losing battle. Inez was consistently firm about not wanting to move. I haven't seen Andresito in a while.
On another note, is anyone able to cover for me the wed night ep recap for next week? I might be going to FL to be with my mom while my brother (the one that lives by her) is with wife on a 18 day vac in europe... so i dont want her to be alone that long. can anyone do the nex wed recap for me? i might be able to watch but my mom doesnt have internet conn so i could not put the recap out.
and I too LOVED the conv between DrT and Nata... 21 century women indeed!
I have never used CC for watching CME. Do you think if I started using it I would be hindered or helped in my Spanish education?
R la O
Sylvia: Great recap. I fast-forwarded through the Adri/Matias scenes (love her but dislike him) so it's nice to be able to read what's going on there.
Am beyond pleased how Nata is handling this baby news. And pleasantly surprised at Marina during her convo with Nata.
Coni seems to be able to speak better and have some use of her hands. Is it that she doesn't always remember she knows the truth about Berta/Nata?
If Alfonsina loses her baby, will she think it's a punishment from God?
Robey
I use the close captions in Spanish. What I TRY to do is not look at them unless I'm confused. (easier said than done) In order to get my ear better attuned to just listening without the closed caps sometimes I put on the noticias or some other information show & leave it on in the background while I do something else.
and by the way R la O I loved your description of Fina and her wigs and the line --"anything is better than that croissant she usually wears on the back of her head."
Also on Roberta -- "She is mean to the core, no matter how much we hope she'll thaw." You have a way with words. I enjoy your comments.
Güera
I was surprised that Constanza didn't try again to say that Renata is Regina's daughter, but she is still recovering and maybe she doesn't necessarily remember that unless someone brings it up. Also I think she has more trouble speaking when she gets upset, which is why she's more successful at saying less important things. She's making fast progress, though, so one of these days...
I, too, loved how reasonable Renata and Marina were. Is it a telenovela first for a galán-chasing woman to get pregnant and NOT use this to try to trap him? I don't think she was being totally fair in not wanting Jero to even know about the baby, though. It would be good for her child to know his father, and Marina and Jero don't need to be together to both be good parents to their kid, especially if they're both mature and functional about it.
Mati's a kick. I liked when Jero hugged her for a loooooong time, to the point that Carlos was all, "ahem!"
I am enjoying that all the commenters seem in unison of appreciation at the noble behavior of the NataTata tete-a-tete. (HA, what fun to say several times really fast).
I am another taken aback (in a good way) about the Nata & Tata conversation. As Julia mentioned, this may be a TN first where a woman does not use her REAL pregnancy to trap a man.
What a pleasure not to have anything to complain about. Everyone was on their best behavior, including Fina and Berta.
Now we know why they made Dr. Tataterrific such a "noble" character; one whom we all wanted to like.
I thought her explanation of "how" it happened was decently explained and that her relationship with Jero was just beginning and neither of them knew if it would blossom into something serious. Then we got the flashback on the "when" it happened--something we were all trying to figure out--the time she was fixing up his booboos in her office.
What a self-sacrificing woman to willingly bug out of the pueblo and back to DF before it would be obvious she's pregnant and that would be the end of that.
The ONLY thing that bothered me in this whole episode was when Rentata of the Vineyards arrived to embrace her Jero, she still had her purse over her shoulder. What woman arrives at her destination and doesn't put her purse down somewhere, especially if she's not planning to leave again very soon.
My word verification is phitt--something Augie would say if his jaw would jut out any further?
NOK
How refreshing to have a rival be so civil and mature! They ought to try this angle more often, a kind of "I can be more noble than you!" I knew Renata would tell. Aye, that miserable dog-faced Roberta! I hope silly-assed Gina will start noting digs like the Antonio/dress remark and reconsider the source of the biologic specimens. Sheesh! And where were the guards during that so obviously surreptitious cafe confab? Thanks, Cap'n. Maybe some coronal mass ejections had our boys grumpy and the women stoopid! Hope it's passed! Laz and Kari, they are just the designated suffering lovers of this piece. Still loving the show!
Lila
Julia- I thought that extra long hug that Jero gave Mati, that she was enjoying a bit too much, and Carlos pulling her away, was cute and funny. Carlos then also scolded Mati, in baby talk, for being her too blunt self when she asked if someone had died. Usually I would find baby talk annoying, but with these two I find it cute.
I found Mati's blunt honesty both funny and refreshing.
I'm going to give Juan Soler big props on his hugging technique. He honestly seems to love it and his hugs are world class. Great hugs and looks good in suits, two check marks in his favor.
NOK
I liked how much Regina and Renata looked alike from the back when they were the only 2 in the church. It's like... if Regina could see what we can see.
NOK - Too funny about Augie's jutting jaw saying "Phitt"
