Abismo de pasión #154 10/25/12: Damian rejects, Carmina reflects, Gael neglects, and Elisa connects with Carmina’s face.
Lo Nuevo: Fina visits Lucio. (Great eye roll gramps.) He wonders why she’s there. Last time, he says, it was to talk about Blanca and Stef. To her surprise he also knows about the plane tickets, but he says patooey on them because they could be fake just like the DNA results that Carmina once falsified. Fina sighs and says she lost the only person who could help her, her brother. That’s why she’s come, she needs Lucio’s help. They are seeking the same thing, the truth. She wants to talk to Lucio about his doubts concerning Blanca’s death and to put Gabino Mendoza behind bars until the end of his days.
The Citrus Octopus tells Dam that she heard Elisa tell Lolita she wasn’t going to meet Dam at the cenote. She suggests they get it on, “Let’s kiss, let’s cuddle, let’s go to hell together.” (Direct quote, no paraphrasing I swear.) He calls her Señora and says the only thing she provokes in him is lastima y verguenza. She looks like she’d like to have a knife, gun, or rock in her hand right about now.
Lucio is confused, Fina is the one who protected Gabino for all those years. Where was she when he sought justice for Blanca’s death? She says Gab lied to her but their relationship changed the day he tried to kill her. She doesn’t have proof but she knows he’s guilty. He asks the obvious, if she knew it was Gabino then why did she blame Elisa? He says thanks very much for her confidence in him, but he doesn’t have any in her! Especially since she has caused so much pain to Elisa and to her own son Dam. Lucio says they are not seeking the same thing because he wants Dam and Elisa to be together and happy. Unless Fina changes her attitude toward Elisa he wants no part of her, not now or ever. (Loud cheers erupt from Lucio’s table out on The Patio.)
Gael blasts in and demands to know since when did Dam and Elisa become partners? BigMouth Gael tells a shocked Fina that Elisa is now half owner of the ProCe Arango. (The entire Patio starts lobbing bananas at the blabbermouth.)
Lucio tells Gael to get the heck out of his house. Fina goes ballistic and Lucio tells her the partnership wasn’t for Elisa, but for Damian. Fina is certain that Elisa is the one who convinced Dam. “See, there you go blaming Elisa again! Remember when you were in love didn’t you do everything in your power to keep your love alive with Rosendo?” Yeah, and look where it got me, she gripes. Lucio asks does she want Dam to end up like her? Alone, botoxed and bitter?
Horacio busts into the quinta gun first and demands that Gabino leave Lolita alone. Gab fondles her dainty neck and tells Horacio to drop it or he’s gonna snap her neck like a tostacho. Horacio promises to leave with Lolita so Gabino finally relents. Gab pushes an unconscious Lolita down onto the chair, (“Oops” he says playfully) and leaves Horacio with the prize.
Carmina, now dressed but still drippy, needles Dam about his relationship, or lack thereof, with Elisa. “She stood you up to meet Gael.” Dam tells her to shut her pumpkin piehole because young, nubile, not-orange Elisa is the love of his life and Señora Tia will never separate them. She hisses that she did just that with Stef and Augusto and she’ll do the same for him and her stupid niece.
Horacio tells unconscious Lolita that he’s going to take her far away from all this. But wait, Braulio busts in, “Sueltela, desgraciado! You take her over my dead body!” Brau proceeds to give Horacio a few good whacks before accusing him of killing Lupe and Blanca. Lolita wakes up just in time to hear this last bit, “Is this true? You killed Dona Blanca?” Horacio grabs his gun and aims at Braulio but Lolita throws herself in front of her love Braulio (who doesn’t push her away I notice). “No, you’ll never carry my milk again!” she cries, Horacio goes all bestial, then pathetic, then kind of scary, and he swears he’ll come back for her.
Lucio explains to Fina how Dam approached Elisa about the partnership and if she doesn’t stop her controlling witch ways she’s going to lose Dam forever just like she lost Rosendo. Lucio thinks she is beginning to doubt that Rosendo was planning to escape with Stef. He says she’s looking for justice but unfortunately she’s unable to discern what is truth and what isn’t, so good luck on that fact-finding project.
The magic letters tells us we are in La Ermita, Yucatan. As if we would be anywhere else. Gael, suffering from an acute case of Terminal Wet Blanket, arrives home and Paloma immediately starts macking on him. Uh, he’s tired. Uh, he doesn’t feel good. She practically begs for it. Correction, she blatantly begs for it. Seduction fail.
Dam gets home and tells mommy that he did the Elisa transaction behind her back because he just knew she would impede him. She changes the subject, he was seen kissing Carmina at the stables. True? He accuses mom of plotting for Carmina to seduce him because both she and Carmina have always wanted to keep Dam and Elisa apart. Mom is incensed. (“It sucks getting accused of something you didn’t do, doesn’t it Alfonsina?” squeals the patio in delight.)
I knew it would happen. A lifetime of babysitting Poor Pitiful Me Elisa has taken its toll on Lolita. She tells Braulio it is she and she alone who is to blame for “all these” terrible tragedies. Braulio shows great self control by not rolling his eyes when he tells her it just ain’t so.
Horacio heads lickety-split to Tonia to give her the 411 on Operation Shanghai Lolita. Tonia urges Horacio to get that husband-stealing Lolita NOW, but she freaks when she hears Horacio nearly shot Braulio. Horacio, mouth full of mushed up apple, warns her he’s going to nab his wife to keep her safe but Tonia had better make sure Braulio doesn’t follow them. I think these two should hook up; they are both completely delusional. In the next scene he scuttles off and tells Tonia she knows where to find him if she needs him.
Gael gets dressed and leaves the house because Pathetic Paloma is unable to leave him alone. Honestly, I can’t say I blame him.
Carmina, dressed for the ‘Ho Down (get it?), is rifling the drawers at the used-to-be-hers-now-100%-Elisa’s quinta. Elisa comes in and Carmina hisses that she warned Elisa not to play dirty with her. “And I warned you not to mess with Damian,” retorts Elisa. She says she saw the TangelHo with her man at the cenote and how could auntie do that to her? Carmina laughs and tells Elisa to stop blubbering because there is no such thing as a faithful man. It’s just their nature, it’s in their guts, in their blood and “down there.” (Again, a literal translation. No kidding.) Mutual insults ensue until Elisa gives Auntie a major smack-down and warns “Don’t mess with what is mine!” Auntie jumps right back up and starts strangling her niece.
Elisa calls Carmina crazy, but really Elisa, did you expect anything different? Carmina, ever the glutton for punishment, gets all up in Elisa’s face and says Elisa is such a crappy woman that all her men leave her for someone else. Elisa responds with a quick right jab to Carmina’s nose. Eat your heart out Begoña. Bloodied and battered, the Sleazel pops back up again so that Elisa can tell her what a nasty piece of work auntie is. Men might desire her and use her but they never love her, only pity her. Elisa concludes with one more slap from the left and a “mess with Damian again and it’s going to be worse.” Carmina agrees it’s going to be worse because she’ll see Elisa DEAD.
Elisa’s night just keeps getting better. Gael has been lurking outside in order to intercept Elisa and get on her case about joining up with the Arango ProCe. He points out her success is due to his greenhouse prowess and how can she just erase him from her life? (“Easy!!” yells the Patio.) “Buenas Noches,” pipes up Damian, spoiling Gael’s pity party.
Dam, in his usual fashion, accuses Elisa of “being with” Gael. “He was just leaving,” she points out. Dam says he waited all afternoon for her. “Hope it wasn’t too boring for you,” she snips. They continue their weird minuet of accusing but not actually saying anything until Dam says he only came to remind her of their appointment with the notary tomorrow morning. Elisa says she’s not sure anymore that she wants to sign, so there. Dam says the notary will be there at 10:00 in case she decides to grow up.
Elisa goes inside and, wait for it, CRIES to Lolita about everything that just happened. Lolita tells her to put a lid on it, she’s got a visitor. It’s Alfonsina and she makes Elisa’s eyes bug out when she says she wants Elisa to marry Damian.
Mirror mirror on the wall...Carmina stares at her unbruised reflection and recalls Dam’s rejection. She smiles and promises “You’ll both regret it so much, I’m going to destroy you in a way that will make you wish you’d never been born.”
Ooh la la, Gabino, freshly laundered and sporting a low-slung towel, swaggers in and asks why she’s been staring at herself all day. Carmina pouts that Elisa not only scratched her skin, she wounded her soul. Gab laughs at the funny joke. What soul? But she does have the important parts so how about a little relaxation in the sack and new scratches on her back? Carmina starts kissing him and suddenly it’s Dam’s head on the receiving end. “Make love to me like Rosendo did so many times in this bed,” she demands. “OK, call me Rosendo then,” Gabino retorts, always the scamp.
Fina assures Elisa she’s not there to mess with Elisa’s head. Nor did she need Elisa to save her company. She’s putting aside her pride so that she doesn’t lose her son. For that she is willing to tolerate Elisa. Elisa still doesn’t believe Fina's on the level. Fina says look, she didn’t come to try to convince Elisa of anything, but to tell her that if Elisa decides to join HER company and HER son then she won’t stand in Elisa’s way.
Avances: Gabino has a hissy fit. He gets arrested in Fina’s office. Carmina’s still after Damian. She has a hissy fit too. Elisa tells Damian she’ll marry him.
Labels: abismo
Rough day at the office for Carmina, eh?
And we got our obligatory beefcake shots ... er ... Spanish listening skills practice last night: swimmng scene w/Dam, apre bain scene w/Gabs. I kept wondering if that towel would fall a little lower ....
"citrus octopus"
"alone, botoxed and bitter"
"snap her neck like a tostacho"
"(who doesn't push her away, I notice)"
"a lifetime of babysitting Elisa"
Right on! Tho' I love the actress playing Lolita, her endless over-the-top nurturing of the whineaholic, crotch-high shorted Elisa gets on my last nerve. And too true that it leads to that it's-all-my-fault disease. Ugh! Been there, done that and ya, basta!
Well done, righteously funny and full of wry insight as usual, amiga. Thanks so much.
Who knew there was a piranha in the cenote? (the piranha who also got Kenya)
Great eye roll gramps… indeed!
Citrus Octopus… Perfect!!
(The entire Patio starts lobbing bananas at the blabbermouth.)
YES, I am afraid Gael continues seeking attention in all the wrong ways!!
Did you all notice how quickly Fina went back to her old ways to blame Elisa once Gael blabbed to her about the partnership? Lucio had to push Gael out and start over working on her self-analysis of her attitude of the past. One more thing, when Lucio confronted her on what SHE had been willing to do in the past to keep Rosie with her, I wondered if Lucio knows about her giving Ingrid money to leave town with the baby… (or is it that this part also came out when Dam and Gael found out they were sibs?)
Lucio asks does she want Dam to end up like her? Alone, botoxed and bitter? (LOL!!! Good one!)
(Gabino) tells Horacio to drop it or he’s gonna snap her neck like a tostacho. (ROFLOL!!)
(Lolita) throws herself in front of her love Braulio (who doesn’t push her away I notice). (I noticed that too. Indeed Armando Araiza is delivering an Oscar-worthy performance in playing the out of control paranoic, crazy Horacio)
I think what Lucio was telling Alfie in the end there was more to the lines of ‘when you are seeking the truth, you can’t chose who you will be benefiting with your findings and who you won’t ..’ (in other words, you can’t be selective about who you ‘save’ and who you ‘sink’)
Gael, suffering from an acute case of Terminal Wet Blanket… yeah, it is the longest running case I have ever heard about…
(“It sucks getting accused of something you didn’t do, doesn’t it Alfonsina?” squeals the patio in delight.) indeed, I was jumping for joy in my chair…
A lifetime of babysitting Poor Pitiful Me Elisa has taken its toll on Lolita. Lol
Gael gets dressed and leaves the house because Pathetic Paloma is unable to leave him alone. Honestly, I can’t say I blame him… yeah he also found the best excuse to go ranting at Elisa for the ‘partnership’
it’s in their guts, in their blood and “down there.” (Again, a literal translation. No kidding.) … yeah another moment I was like… YIKES!!
I can’t really believe Gael was just about to force Elisa into another unwanted kiss when Dam saved her day… now the question is… how is Dam going to interpret that ‘picture’? … well, we didn’t have to wait long for the predictable result.
The ‘rolling the sheets’ scene with Carmina daydreaming it was Dam and Gabino saying ‘go ahead have your fantasy version’ was funny, I have to admit.
doris, i too was watching that towel carefully ... lol!
Still not feeling the love to our main fearsome foursome, but kudos to Elisa for her righteous right hook. Knew that girl had some sort of skill that would come out one day.
Honestly, the monkey band just needs to park the endless Pathetic trying to hit on Gael scenes. And before the end of this painful thing, I would like to see a good slap up the side of the head to Gael and get him back to the guy we loved at the start.
My head implodes over Carmina's sudden lust for Dam, but whatever. Methinks said "luster" is starting to just go totally loca.
I would like to say thanks to the monkey band for at least throwing the lovely ladies of the patio a bone and giving us some beefacke to peruse and depart with. Does make the drech go down a little easier.
Carmina lusts for what will be the last opportunity to get one over on Elisa: seducing Damian. This is her whole deal. She was trying to seduce Augusto while Estefania was still alive, she got Rosendo, she temporarily seduced the doc. Except for Damian and everyone younger than he whom didn't she boink in that town?
Maybe she should be allowed to get old and poor so men will all reject her simultaneously.
Let's see, how many more ways can the writers make Horacio look MORE guilty of every crime ever committed in La Ermita? We'll have him hover over Lolita in a creepy way, after it was really Gabino who accosted her, and then we'll have him pull a gun on Brau and threaten to take Lolita away! Yep. Could he be a stupider criminal?!
Looks like the writers are setting it up for us to not feel bad at all if Tonia gets taken out by Horacio, Gabino or Carmina. Perhaps she will "redeem" herself by jumping in front of Brau the next time Hor pulls a gun on him, but really shoots.
Alfie is taking baby steps towards accepting she was WRONG! It was like she was having a malfunction as she fought accepting the cold hard truth Lucio was telling her. It just did not compute in Alfi-bot's mind.
At this late in the game, why can’t Dam and Elisa just start talking to each other straight?
Elisa: I DID go to the cenote, and I saw you and my tia kissing, just after your mama told me you were kissing each other in the stables. Now, I know my aunt is a skank ho, but I want an explanation from you on how her lips came to be on yours for more than two seconds.
Dam: (after giving his explanation of his near rape by the tia) After I kicked your skank-ho tia to the curb, she told me you and Gael were still seeing each other and that you were with him right now. I didn’t believe her, but now I see you here with Gael, standing 1 inch apart, with his hands all over your assets. I know Gael is a rat-bastard, but I want to know from you, what exactly is he doing here, and should I take this opportunity to break his face in order to get him to leave you alone?
Everything would have been resolved, just like that!
Today's Top Five:
- “No, you’ll never carry my milk again!”
- She’s looking for justice but unfortunately she’s unable to discern what is truth and what isn’t, so good luck on that fact-finding project.
- The magic letters tells us we are in La Ermita, Yucatan. As if we would be anywhere else.
- I think these two should hook up; they are both completely delusional.
...and last but not least:
- Carmina pouts that Elisa not only scratched her skin, she wounded her soul. Gab laughs at the funny joke.
I can't wait to get caught up this weekend -- lots of scenes I don't want to miss. Thanks, Sylvia and Team Abismo, for keepin' it unreal!
What Lucio told Alfie, was that she can't be seeking justice in one area, and still continue an injustice in another. If she is truly seeking justice, than she has to be on the side of justice everywhere, she can't be selective about it. Wow - she actually listened? I'm glad she realizes that she has to put her orgullo (pride) aside in order to not lose her son, but after all the years of hell she's caused for Elisa, Dam, and Agusto, it's a bit too easy!
If Alfie believes Horacio's story that Carmina killed her brother Lupe, than why hasn't she gone after Carmina already? Does that mean she doesn't really believe Horacio?
Carmina is one complex nut case. Rolling in the sheets with Gabino, imagining it's Damian, and then wanting to pretend it's Rosendo. I was confused just watching her! UA, your explanation makes total sense, but when Carmina does weird stuff like that I just shake my head and go "Next!".
daisynjay, did you refer to me as the storm of the century? Believe me I have been called much worse, hee. I have friends who are cruising in the Caribbean and it looks like my friends in Bermuda (with a sister ship of my own) avoided a direct impact. Whew! I'm sure it will still be exciting for them, but hopefully not in a completely terrifying way.
I hope all of you on the East Coast manage to stay out of harm's way. My heart goes out to those in the islands who bore the brunt of nature's fury.
Audrey, I too am baffled as to why Alfonsina hasn't gone after Carmina yet. I got the feeling she is still stunned with the truth and maybe trying to get her ducks in a row?
“Let’s kiss, let’s cuddle, let’s go to hell together.”
Heck, she just might have convinced me. I would have pleaded that she cast a spell on me.
Just before Gabino went inside to menace Lolita, he checked his armpit with a quick, subtle sniff. Guess he decided that his body odor alone wasn't quite powerful enough so he had to resort to chloroform.
Maybe Elisa was auditioning for the part of La Monita for a remake of Gancho. I was impressed.
I (probably for one) was impressed with Alfy's transformation. I think she's as close as she'll get to warm and cuddly, but she's hovering dangerously near redemption... doncha think?
I'm inclined to think that Alfonsina wants to take her time in dealing with Carmina. I think it is crystal clear to her who her true enemy was and is. I don't think she will disappoint.
Carlos
The melodrama has become a farce, hasn't it? (Well okay, it has been for the past 140 episodes.)
What about all the tragic deaths, you say? They were just toons. We are definitely in Tom & Jerry territory now and we can almost discern the "Acme Anvil Company" logos on those objects flying through the air.
Most hilarious moment left to the viewer's imagination: Might Mouse Gabino *carrying* Not Exactly a Feather Lolita.
Elisa's smack down of her tia was enjoyable. I was surprised rotten citrus didn't retaliate more. Carlos, lol w/her re-make comment.
Loved seeing Elisa slap Carmina several times! Good for her!
So Carmina is still fantasizing about Damian?! Yikes!
I liked watching the convo between Dam and Alfie. He really dug deep when he told her that the people in LaE probably wonder how he can live with a mother like her.
Gael is just good now to cause drama. First he rejects Paloma then he goes out to find Elisa. Dam looked pithed when he saw them together. But it looks like Dam is gonna be the victor since Elisa is gonna agree to marry him.
--TF
I am so sick and tired of the same thing happening over and over. Every time that someone is in a compromising position, they get seen by the one person who misinterprets the scene. EVERYTIME!
Paloma keeps trying to seduce Gael over and over and over. I'M SICK OF IT!
Alfie is constantly told that she shouldn't hold Elisa responsible for the acts of others, but she continues to. I CAN"T STAND IT ANYMORE!
Ok, now I feel better.
I thought it was hilarious when Dam told Carmina he didn't care who Elisa was with before him, the only thing that matters is that she's with him now. That attitude is quite a change from his constant kvetching in Cancun about his not "being her first". Gag. Plus D and E still don't believe each other. Such a wonderful basis for a supposed lifetime of happiness.
1) Carmina killed Lupe because Lupe suspected of killing Augusto, which she did
2) Elisa & Damian are 50/50 partners in the Procesadora...which was explained to her by Lucio as being provoked by DAMIAN so that if/when Elisa becomes his wife, the Arango Procesadora would then be 100% Arango owned again.
3) The plane tickets with Estefania and Rosendo's names on them were fakes
4)Damian told her if she was going to disinherit him, go ahead & do it b/c he was gonna be with Elisa anyway.
5) Carmina has been sniffing around Damian.
In short, Alfonsina learned:
Carmina & Gabino are asesinos & dangerous;
Carmina has her sights on Damian;
Lupe's last words were about Damian/Elisa uniting in love and that would fight against the evil (or something)
Alfonsina might figure it's in her (& Damian's) best interests for him to marry Elisa, lest Carmina get her hooks into him and into their family procesadora.
"She looks like she’d like to have a knife, gun, or rock in her hand right about now."

"Horacio grabs his gun and aims at Braulio but Lolita throws herself in front of her love Braulio (who doesn’t push her away I notice). “No, you’ll never carry my milk again!” she cries, Horacio goes all bestial, then pathetic, then kind of scary, and he swears he’ll come back for her."
My heavens girl, you totally captured that scene. Great work, Sylvia. I am really unhappy with Horacio right now. If he wants to be redeemed from a 'straight ahead criminal and murderer' to an 'easily-led looser and murderer'(I think that is as far as his redemption can go) he needs to wash his face and hair, close his mouth when he chews and stop threatening women.
NM, I laughed out loud at Gabino hefting the hefty Lolita in his arms. Salvador has been pumping iron for sure but Delores is the only normal sized woman in the show. He could press Alfonsina and Carmina—his two loves—one in each hand, over his head.
And, I wish we would get some follow up on Gabino's unresolved feelings for Alfie.
I have waited a really long time to see Elisa give her Auntie a whollop. It was, to this non-violent person, a guilty pleasure to see Carmina smacked about. However, where were Carmina's war wounds? The makeup department does a very convincing job with bruises, let's give a few to Carmina, shall we?
CathyX, do not despair. All will be over very soon. There is something to be grateful for...I have the impression that you are in the PST time zone. If so, you, Sylvia, Cynderella and I will moss the Frankenstorm and Hurricane Sandy. Of the recappers on Abismo, only Super-Marta will have to face down the storm. Just think! Although some of our East Coast friends could lose power and miss out on the exciting denouement of Abismo de Pasion, you won't miss a thing unless you throw a toaster and not a nerfazo through your TV. With a supportive giggle...
EJ
EJ- Yes, I'm in PST. So if I lower my expectations, I can be happy to watch Abismo during the storm that the east coast will be getting.
As for Un Gancho al Corazón, well in my opinion it was a masterpiece. The acting was superb, and I defy you to watch this little clip and not crack up laughing.
It was a treat. The two main characters were a bit bland and predictable but the rest of the cast made up for any tedium. After the first two weeks are so I was ready to bail but once underway, it was an hilarious and exciting ride.
Carlos
I actually watched Un Gancho al Corazon for a few months, but the back and forth on again/off again was so incredibly tiring, I had to stop. And when I saw it got moved to daytime, I knew I wasn't the only one who bailed on it. I'm not against comedic TNs, I loved Las Tontas, but I guess I do have my limits. And my limits are pretty high believe it or not.
p.s. I thought that the Rafael character looked familiar in Amor Bravio and he played Rolu in Un Gancho. Thanks for the link.
Carlos, fantastic clip! I do miss Ximena and her tres cosas. (It was tres, right?) She was always a delight and never dull like some of the other characters.
Cathy, um, I admit I re-watched the final episode of El Talisman recently. Only for the educational overtones of Antonio's demise you understand.
Anon207, thank you for your lists. They are always so fun and interesting to read.
Carlos - I never thought I'd hear "El Talisman" and "genuine glee" in the same sentence, but you are spot on.
