Qué Bonito Amor #35 (Mex 52-53.1) Friday 5/31/13 Fatherhood: The Good, The Bad and The Fugally Ugly or There Are Fathers and Then There Are Fathers
Labels: QBA
Appreciate your recapping work and look forward to the part yet to come.
Just wanted to say thank you for translating everything on Caray,Caray. I dont speak Spanish but love the novellas and if it wasn't for you nice people on this blog I would'nt understand what was going on.....I'm learning a little Spanish while watching and understand some Italian so maybe some day I will know enough to blog and help somebody too lol
Thanks so much for recapping with all this going on. I thought it was an interesting, action packed episode. The pace has finally picked up in the last week.
==============
Welcome Anna Kelterborn! Glad to learn you're lurking out there! You make it worth the effort for us recapping.
=/: ? ))
I was clueless as to what was happening out in our mid-west, while I enjoyed the greenery, calmness and sunshine in the mid-Atlantic--even though it was hot. And for someone we know (once removed) to be in the middle of it....I'm relieved they came through with minimal damage. It's terrible for those who have suffered losses.
Yes, the chatted a lot on QBA last night, but we've heard the same long passages in other telenovelas, in other situations.
I thought I heard one of the guys (JA or Fer) tell Coloso to get an ADN test and he refuses. 'Cmon, big fella, it doesn't hurt and if it's not true (haha) you can wave that piece of paper around under everybody's nose. We know he has at least half a heart of gold, so in the end he will take care of Roddy.
I think JA *does* know Gloria is dying. Roddy tells him that right after the near crash with the foreign bug on wheels.
You could have left out the Derecho-daughter-slut routine and nobody would have missed it. It's *such* a cliche. And we certainly didn't need daughter telling papi that the Lt. was perfect for him. She doesn't *know* how loca she is.
I loved:
...JAntos suffers a nano-moment of indecision before going into defensive attack mode
...big boobed brat’s adolescent mischief and her endless vitriolic stream of verbal slanders
...Ruben says he’s got dibs [on Maria] since he knew her long before JAntos arrived on the scene
...The other three leave Ruben sputtering and stunned, with his male…er…ego dangling in the aftermath
I was gobbsmacked when after being held up by three thugs and one brandishing a gun they could happily go off and have dinner on hidden money. What? No police, no report? Just eat and everything will be fine.
OK, Beanie time. If they were so concerned about Gloria being called to let her know where Roddy was and the cell phone was given up, why didn't they stop off at Maria's first and call from there...oh, then we wouldn't have had the lost buttons scene. OK, I need a double-lined beanie. JA is bigger around in the chest than Maria. She could have just put his shirt on over her blouse and buttoned it up...oh, then we wouldn't have had JA fighting his itch.
Guess I was too mentally fried to need the beanie this time. I only thought about the phone for a second and it slipped through the cracks-- I figured subconsciously it was too late to call the gal...at least I hoped so!
It has gotten interesting with the possibility of Santos returning to El Lay with Berto, and it should since we're about halfway through the 125 total and still traveling through 1.5 epis/night. I'm going to miss the music in this one, and frankly, Pablo shines with his character's shenanigans in this one. His timing is great and he's cleaned up his act--or have they used technology to do that?
And it seems by the end Coloso was accepting that Rodi is his kid. Fatherhood will be good for him and will make him a better person, I think.
So, does Su think that Ira can quit, just like that? How is she supposed to pay her rent? Maybe she can get a waitress job at the bar?
I made the mistake of changing the channel during the robbery scene and Maria being all brave. But it looks like it wasn't THAT exciting.
Was it just me or did Don Concho say "God d**n it" during his argument with Elvira? I am always fascinated to hear English being spoken in these TNs. I find it quite humorous.
Hopefully someone can knock some sense into Coloso to embrace fatherhood.

======
Sorry that the read was rough and confused in places. I've gone back and put in quotation marks and such to help things out.
======
The avance shows either JA telling Coloso he's a coward I think and Fer tells him to get a DNA test; he told him before few epis ago I think also.
Jar, you got the phone thing right. It was the folks in the novela that weren't thinking straight. Roddy can't live too far away from Maria's that they couldn't have just taken him home. A phone call and a knock on the door--same thing. It wakes you up. I guess Mejia just wanted that convo between just JA and Roddy about getting married and having hijos.
Maria has to stop being so polite for a change and really give it to him with both barrels.
I just hope that if, who am I kidding, WHEN Maria goes back to work at the bar she has the sense to demand twice her previous pay. (Well, I can hope, can’t I?) If La Trampira were to actually ask Maria for forgiveness on her knees, her whole existence in this TN might be worthwhile. And what’s this about being under contract for a tour? Do any of the performers know about this? Wouldn’t asking all the performers if they are available to tour be kinda sorta important to be sure of before signing a contract to tour?
Why oh why doesn’t Concho simply ban his slutty daughter from the bar? He knows she does nothing but make trouble. It’s his bar. All he has to do is tell the staff to escort her out whenever she shows up. Of course, then we wouldn’t have much of a telenovela to watch, but still.
Yeah, Maria could have gone further with making her point to Ruben, but give her credit for what she did, which is a heckava lot more than what she’s done up until now. What with the bitch slapping she gave Elvira earlier and now telling off Ruben, I say you go, girl. I think Santos could go a bit further, too, in pointing out to both his rivals that Maria has made her choice clear and lo siento, it wasn’t you, but he came close to saying that to Ruben tonight. Thank you, Vivi, for pointing out how much more solid JAntos and Maria have become. Of course when he drops that other shoe, we can pretty much guess that things won’t be so rosy …
Re. Susanito and Irasema: love, confusion, what’s the diff?
Hey, they’re a tough bunch in the DF. Getting mugged is just part of an evening out on the town, doncha know? You can’t let it spoil your fun. At least Rigo had the sense to be prepared for it, unlike JAntos, who apparently has never read a the ‘Dangers and Annoyances’ section of a Lonely Planet guidebook. As to why they couldn’t find another phone in a city of 9 million or any way to let Gloria know where her son was, well, it’s beanie time! The mom will worry so we’ll call her, no, we got mugged, so let’s just keep her son away all night, so she’ll worry even more. TN logic at it’s finest. I can’t wait for her to be freaking out in the morning when she realizes he’s not there.
I do think that El Coloso is edging toward accepting Rodri as his son, but since we have a lot of episodes to go, it’ll be a while before he actually does so. (BTW, there were about 160 total episodes aired in Mexico (just wrapped up this weekend), so if we’re at episode 53, we’re approaching 1/3 through it. Currently they are showing episodes that are about 25% longer per night. It’s anyone’s guess how much longer the mega episodes will continue or when this will finish up.)
Another BTW, maybe I misunderstood, but I thought that Ana told Roxana that Milamores was no good, but Roxana said she still wanted to be with him and Ana looked pained because she still wants to be with him. Interesting solution to park Roxana with Ana. I guess it never occurred to him that they might compare notes.
Had that become a kidnapping it would have been a way to unmask Santos, but then the ransom demand would have been outrageous.
Fernando needs to grow up just as much as Oscar does. He needs to realize that's it's not all about his need to rescue and probably that not all women can be rescued.
It's time Oscar took responsibility in his life. I love that he threw Vampira's skanky ass out of his place, so this is a beginning. Once he has to accept responsibility for Rodrigo he might realize that it's a losing battle to continue to pursue Maria.
As for Derecho having a daughter... OK. That isn't going to stop Curtis from pursuing him since she is so delusional it's pathetic.
I wondered if it was still being written and produced in Mexico. So it's 160? I could only find reference to the first 125. OMG. Must have been pretty popular south of the border. Dunno why Mejia gets no respect up here for this one. Well, at least we can expect one heck of a lot more fabulous singing from Dana and Pablo but how much more intrigue can we deal with? We realy need to start a new stage in this one. Hope the writers have something unexpected planned. And yeah, Roxy did say she thought he was sweet and sincere, and we know Ana wanted him for herself, but I figured that was the gist of the conversation and was running out of steam with this oversized no. of scene changes in the episodio.

Anita:
I also thought the idea of Santos taking Maria to EL Lay now that she's quit would be terrific!

UA:
I've tried to figure this out --when healthy ego and love interest turns into legitimate harassment or event stalking. I'm not legalistic nor a radical feminist who has stolen IMHO the legalistic words for themselves and stretched definition beyond natural bounds. I appreciate and love the romantic pursuit. It's necessary and flattering is nice.
Elvira is a stalker of sorts--not what we'd typically consider since she's just a female with financial advantages and a big ego to match as a rich, spoiled daddy's girl. Mischievous and bold, but not totally criminal. Santos has a macho's ego of his own that would prevent him from hitting the roof truly with Trampira--in addition to wanting to avoid problems with the police or losing his needed job and sense of newfound security.
Ruben is a type of pest that scares me--not the looney kind, the rich egotistical man who uses his money to buy what he wants and doesn't have the decency to back off and look to greener pastures when his presence is neither required or desired. He's past the bounds of the simple would be suitor who tries to get noticed so much he's always under foot and a major nuisance, past the bounds of socially acceptable interest and pursuit cuz he refuses to recognize or accept that he's been soundly and politely, told to not to bother any of them. He's a fifth wheel and won't let go--like a dog with a bone--that's when it's become harassment.
I just ran across this wind map of the tornadoes from last night:

How scary!
Just wanted to say thanks to all of the recappers. DirectTV wigged out on Thursday night, but you kept me up to date.
I could help but think how many inept thieves there are in the DF. This crew got as few bucks and cell phone after holding guns on a group of people. They also got tongue lashed by Maria and popped a few by JAntos. The last hold up guy found himself on the short end of a few well placed kicks and hits with a make up case netting him nothing for his trouble. The only thief who made out was the original one who got all of JAntos' money.
I also found it hilarious that after the encounter everyone went off for a post crime snack. Realistically I don't think too many people in Mexico these days even bother to report crimes.
We've never seen any evidence of pimps but Irasema saying she was afraid she could get out makes me think there must be someone running those girls. Maybe a female which would be the other woman who will try to come between our addled lovers.
I find it interesting that every time Oscar is having one of his musings about Rod and Gloria he always has that medal in his hand. It obviously means something to him or he would have tossed it like he did the glass.
A DNA test will end Oscar's doubts but he now going to have s tougher road to hoe since he rejected the boy so cruelly. JAntos' standing up for the boy and we can add counseling upset teens to his resume, will once again put him at odds with Oscar.
Loved how Concho ripped into the two sharks he lives with. He clearly told them to back off or else their cushy lives will be over.
Great point about Oscar theoretically having the property rights, but since Maria is a human being capable of thinking and making decisions neither he nor Ruben have any rights to her.
My little cable box went on vacation on Wednesday so I completely missed all of Univision's TNs for two whole days. Thanks to all for keeping me up to date.
Thanks so much for this fab recap and I join everyone here in being glad to know that your daughter and family are ok after that horrific weather! You are a trooper to recap during all that stress.
I think Rueben might want Maria cause she is unattainable and I think he knows it. Yes, he stalks her every chance he gets and he fancies that once she sees what he can buy for her, he'll have her hook, line and sinker. He is so blind he doesn't see she will never be into him. If he ever succeeded in getting rid of JAntos he would see he would be dead to her, not that he isn't now, mind you. He is just an idiot.
The necklace that Oscar keeps holding is one he gave Gloria when they were going out when they were young. The last time they talked she took off that necklace and gave it back to him. I think he really still have feelings for her and I am wondering if her Papa ran him off back in the day. Did he have money or something and how is she maintaining her place to live and supporting Rodrigo? Have we seen her work or has it been mentioned what she did for work before her cancer diagnosis? She isn't getting anything from Oscar. I think Oscar will eventually accept the fact that Rodrigo is his son. He just has to process this information, and I think he knows deep down that Gloria wouldn't lie about that.
Even though Fernando is a scallywag I still like him. He does a lot for abused women. I wish they would show the back story about that.
I really hope Irasema and Susanito find happiness together. They so deserve it and I am really rooting for them.
I won't even comment on Trampira, cause everything I wanted to say has been said : )
Her parents had money.
As for Fernando I think there had to have been domestic violence in his family.
I too think Fernando has been exposed to domestic violence. I don't think it was his father because he didn't seem bitter about the man beating on women but he was angry that he died chasing the american dream on the way to El Norte.
If we are only a third of the way through we should get some of the back stories that are interesting us before we get the HEA.
My favorite scene was Concho sticking up for Maria and putting Elvira in her place.
Maybe if Irasema takes off the wig and makeup, her pimp won't recognize her?
