La Vecina Highlights and Discussion #132-136 Dec. 28-Jan. 1
Labels: la-vecina
I'd love a volunteer to handle the weekly posting. Sara and I are both swamped right now.
-I'm worried about Antonio's dad's health. And furious that Ema just acts like she did nothing wrong and is being completely unsupportive.
-I don't want them to do anything to jeopardize the effort to bust Pedro, but I wish more people knew. Having Bruno know, but not Sara or Laura is just causing more trouble, and the Bruno-Laura breakup makes me :(
-I don't think this thing with Marcelo and Natalia is ever going to work. The dude uses overwrought dialogue and bad acting as his Viagra. Who can put up with that for long?
-I love how much Juancho has matured to where he's now the one who's informing Simon about his feelings and waking him up for early morning training. Much better than the earlier whiny, entitled Juancho, blaming everyone else for everything. (See, Ema, if HE can mature....)
Let's see...more stuff from the episode:
I thought it should have been titled "Scapegoats", because Pedro is planning on making Sara, Cheo, and even Simon into scapegoats by hiding stolen gas in the restaurant's cistern, having Cheo sell those "irrigation" systems, and even running a gas siphoning through Simon's land!
And Ric plans on sending David to SG, and planting evidence to make him look like the D.F. informant. But Uribe put up a roadblock to his plan. He thinks Sara can handle the public relations work Ric thinks David should do.
And not only does Isa want the audit first to find what Ed's hiding, but it also sounds like she wants Ric's help to doctor it to make it look even worse than it is.
Other news:
-Tonio is selling his D.F. apartment so that he can buy a place in SG and help his dad pay his debt.
-Chelo's way of getting turned on (hacerse cachondo) by making overly dramatic speeches of love, is boring Nat to tears, but she's decided to go away with him on location to give it a shot. These two make me laugh.
-Kat, you already mentioned Bruno breaking Laura's heart, to keep them both safe. He also took Pedro on about the loan forced on one of the farmers, and lost. Now, he's suggesting that all the farmers pool their money to pay the guy's loan back, then he can pay them all back with much lower interest. But it doesn't seem that Bruno (or Simon) knows about the loan Sara just took out from Pedro. And, this episode it seems that she's decided to go back to him for some more financial help. Don't do it, Sara!
-Cheo quit his job at the car lot to work for Pedro, and signed the promissory note to pay them back the 2 million pesos.
The bishop cracks me up. How long has he been a bishop in Mexico and he still fails to understand the importance of the fut? I wonder if we'll see him cheering at a game before this is all over.
I hate how well Pedro has planned into making Sara&etc. the scapegoats. And how he made Rosa sound paranoid last week when she wanted to stay on top of the work being done at the restaurant.
Glad the padre is not going anywhere but sad to see hottie soccer guy go. With the whole soccer theme and little side jokes, I wonder who on the writing team is fut obsessed. If so, then I have a list of cute soccer guys I would like to see make a cameo...just saying
Yep loved the whole training scene, especially Simon's cute blue headband.
And I'm pretty sure I can post something up for this Wednesday.

1. I hate Pedro Arango.
2. Maybe I hate Isa more?
3. No. No. Wait, I hate Pedro more.
4. Antonio is the best son ever for wanting to help his dad.
5. Simon's workout made my day.
Thoughts on Tuesday:
-Obviously, now that Pedro wants Ric to throw the competition in Sara's favor, she's going to get the job whether she wants it or not. I'm biased, though--I think even if she turned in a "mediocre" proposal, she would still have beat David's proposal easily. I love how Edwina knew exactly what Sara was talking about and is going to help, but now I'm wondering...is she still on her extended vacation from work?
-Marina crying made me want to cry and those guys had better apologize, and SOON! Letting her in on the Pedro secret is optional, but I want to see some groveling.
-Ema calling Antonio childish? Um, of the two of you, which one bought a car with money you didn't have and then told your husband to just embezzle company funds to cover it?!
-Titina tells Chevy that her mom knows about the baby. She invites (i.e. forces) him to a family dinner that night. At the dinner, with funeral music playing in the background, Sebas ask for Titina’s hand in marriage. Her father accepts, and the wedding is planned for Saturday.
-Isa sends the preliminary audit report to Rick. She wants him to change the report and make it look like Antonio’s dad was committing a huge fraud.
-Simons and Padre V continue their astronaut training. It now consist of riding on a spinning carnival ride (for reasons I didn’t really pay attention to) he bought on the internet.Later we get a cool slow-mo scene of Simon walking out in his astronaut suit. Everyone is impressed; Juancho, Edwina, Vladimir, & me…He gets on the carnival ride again, and this time flies off! But he’s OK, just dizzy. His next training exercise is to isolate himself just as he will be in space. He will lock himself in the rocket for 48 hours.
-Natalie gives Marcelo the "it's me, not you" speech, but zones out while she speaking. Misunderstandings all around. Later she gets ambushed by the press, because Marcelo has announced that he & Natalie are getting married. No comment.
-Sara and Antonio talk on the phone. Kisses and sweet nothings.
-Uribe contacts Fidel to talk about the strategy to catch the bad guys & get his opinion on
Antonio returning to SG. Fidel, the smartest cop in TV land & the man with the beefiest arms other than Thor, correctly assumes that the attempt on Antonio’s life was caused by a division within the leaders of the of the gas stealer guys. Antonio’s return can cause more cracks, and lead them to make more mistakes.
-David gets the job in SG, and plans to head out tomorrow. Uribe calls Sara to give her an assistant position in David’s department. He was impressed by her report, but David has more experience.
-Antonio visits Isa so they can talk, and he can set things straight. She doesn’t want to hear it unless he has come over to apologize. Sara calls him during the conversation. He tells her he can’t talk, because he’s dealing with a situation. Isa snatches the phone and screeches “He’s with me! He came to see me, stop bothering us!”, then she throws (and breaks) the phone.
Isa forcibly tries to kiss Tonio, and he pushes her away. She continues to lose it, and Antonio starts to see the cray cray come out. Isa says she forgives him for everything, and begs him to get back together with her.
A: No, that will never happen because I don’t love you. I regret that this is how we will end things.
I: Don’t think that you can get rid of me so easily!
Antonio is firm, and he leaves. (If I were him I would be checking underneath my bed every night for the foreseeable future)
-Sara tries to call Antonio back, and is worried and upset when he doesn’t answer. Pedro visits her to talk business. He has her sign paperwork detailing the amount of the most recent loan added to what she already owes him. Sara, being distracted, signs her soul away.
-Antonio tries to reach Sara using a payphone but no luck. He’s worried about what she must be thinking, but then says that Sara is not like that. Unfortunately for him, Laura and Rosa are adding a bonfire to Sara’s doubts. Later when he calls the restaurant looking for Sara, Rosa lies and say’s she not there and her phone died. (Why Rosa??!) Rosa tells Sara she should play hard to get, it always works. Laura agrees.
-Antonio finds out through his secretary that David got hired for the position in SG. He’s relieved that Sara won’t have to work for CONATROL, not knowing that she got hired as David’s assistant.
-Last scene, Sebas finds out through the newspaper that Natalie & Marcelo are getting married.

"She invites (i.e. forces)... Yup. Sounds just like Titina. You nailed that.
"He will lock himself in the rocket for 48 hours." Oh my. Where will this end up??? Dare I hope Edwina accidentally ends up with him?
"Fidel, the smartest cop in TV land & the man with the beefiest arms other than Thor..." Another perfect description! Having such a competent cop is so refreshing.
"If I were him I would be checking underneath my bed every night for the foreseeable future" WORD.
I generally like Uribe, but his attitude about Nelson annoyed me.
"Fidel, the smartest cop in TV land & the man with the beefiest arms other than Thor" Yes, yes he is! This is priceless!
"If I were him I would be checking underneath my bed every night for the foreseeable future." I think that's what he wanted to avoid by having a "good" breakup but, well...it's Isa. Change your name and move out of the country, dude!
The massive "men suck!" fest at El Molcajete was so not cool. Laura, I get, but Rosa?! Where did that come from?!
Thoughts this week- Simon in his spacesuit wow!
Rosa has been less helpful than usual lately with the bad advice, who broke her heart?
Ay Chelo, Chelo, if he talked less and kissed/listened more he might have a chance.
Thanks all you recappers from last week and this one
Natalia's mom is heartbroken that there isn't really a wedding. Natalia herself is furious! Marina breaks the news to Sara, who is shocked. The peeps on set with Marcelo are annoyed because he forgot to put his cell phone on silent (and had it IN HIS POCKET WHILE THEY WERE FILMING WHICH IS A HUGE NO-NO!!!!! Sorry…actor moment) and it went off when Natalia called to yell at him. Sebastian is also heartbroken and calls Natalia to tell her about HIS wedding. On Saturday! So she asks Chelo if they can get married on Saturday (too).
Sebas cries on Sara's (figurative) shoulder and admits he still loves Natalia.
Chelo is hesitant, because he's way too famous to get married that quickly. Plus, if they wait, they studio will pay for everything. Natalia agrees, gets off the phone, and sobs. Alone.
Sara lets Sebas know that she's still going to be working there, as David's assistant. They're not sure just how chummy he is with Ric, so Sara's going to have to be careful around him. And oh, by the way, she should go by personnel for her paycheck. Sebas mentions the word "exprimir" so, wring out? squeeze? Is he basically saying they're going to work her to death there?
Uribe tells Antonio that David is being sent to San Gaspar and Sara will be his assistant. Even though Uribe has talked to Fidel, he's still not sure about sending Antonio back. Antonio tells him in no uncertain terms that he's going back to San Gaspar, job or no job, so Uribe might as well make use of him while he's there. Uribe is shocked at Antonio's "impulsiveness." Antonio insists he has to finish what he started. If Uribe won't send him back, then he quits.
Sara now (figuratively) cries on Sebas' shoulder about calling Antonio and getting yelled at by Isa. Sebas calls her out on being upset, but not wanting to talk to Antonio and tell him why, but wanting him to figure out why she's not taking his calls now. He reassures her that he's never seen Antonio do so much stupid stuff…so clearly, he must be in love.
Edwina scored some egg crates for Project Rocket. Simon explains how it's completely quiet in space because space is empty, so there's nothing to carry the sound. (That's a little simplified, but yeah, space is a vacuum, there's no air, and vibrations need air to travel.)
Rafael is tasked with getting an office ready for David and Sara. The only one available is really small, but Sara is cool with that. Antonio Skypes Sebastian, desperately looking for Sara and since he sees her lurking behind Sebas, they can't get away with "She's not here." Sara and Antonio start arguing and Sebas and Rafa quietly exit Sebas' office. Basically, Antonio tells Sara what happened, but she doesn't believe him. He swears he's not confused anymore, he knows Sara is the love of his life. He tried to have a civil breakup with Isa, but she wasn't having it so…too bad, it was over anyway. He doesn't know what Uribe will decide, so he hopes she's ok with possibly marrying a guy who's unemployed. "That's ok. I'll work and you stay home with the kids." She fills him in on Pedro's generous loan and the fact that he knows she'll be working at CONATROL.
Finally, Sebastian figures out why Marina is angry at him…and then Rafa realizes why Marina is angry at him. Something must be done! Rafa knows she likes white chocolate. Titina calls Sebas. She opened a checking account so he can deposit the money she needs for the wedding reception. Ugh.
Antonio suggests that Sara find someone other than Laura to take charge of El Molcajete while she's working at CONATROL because…um…conflict of interest. Nah, Sara says there's no problem. And she won't be talking to anyone about her work at CONATROL, either, because she knows it's all confidential stuff. Much mushyness ensues before Sara goes to fetch Rafa and Sebas.
Pedro comes to pick up Laura and hears from her that Sara ran off to the plant…something about a guy from the DF who's showing up and he's going to be her direct supervisor. Pedro ushers her into the SUV and makes a grumpy Pedro face.
Antonio tells Rafa and Sebas he thinks David's a good guy, but if Sara's going to be working with him, make sure she has as little information as possible because she talks too much and Pedro keeps hanging around her. He tells them he doesn't know if Uribe will send him back or not, but he hasn't told Uribe they know about Pedro. He's saving that information until they have the proof.
Uribe visits Antonio's dad, whose face falls when he hears Antonio is determined to go back to SG. He doesn't care about Fidel's reassurances! Uribe promised him! Uribe explains that Antonio gave him an ultimatum and he's going back no matter what. There's a lot of yelling, and...I think those two just broke up. By the time Uribe leaves, Antonio's dad looks like he's on the verge of a heart attack.
Antonio congratulates David on his new position. David asks if there's anything he can do for Antonio…he's taking the afternoon off to pack and then heading out there. Antonio turns him down, but he does have a question, which David is free to not answer: Has Ric insinuated to you that now that you're going to be in San Gaspar, you can pass information to him? David carefully says that of course Ric wants to be kept informed, but not any more than he is about the rest of the company. So Antonio tells him, in confidence, that they suspect Ric of being the informant. David says that doesn't seem likely--he's obsessed with becoming VP and he wouldn't do anything to hurt the company. They agree there are few people who fit the profile and have access to the level of information that's been passed on, including Antonio, Uribe, and some other guy. David looks nervous as Antonio says it could be "any of us." Anyway…he'll see David in San Gaspar. As soon as Uribe gives him the official word, he's catching the next flight out. David is awed that Antonio would go back after what happened.
Rafa and Sara are getting along swimmingly. He showed her the office where she'll be working and suggests a tour of the plant so it's not completely obvious to David that she doesn't actually work there. As she and Rafa and Sebas are laughing over how she should at least know where the bathrooms are, Marina stews. They just keep giving her compliments about how smart and how pretty she is and what a rare combination that is and Rafa's going to take her to lunch at Nachos and Marina…well, they're probably lucky she can't vaporize them with just a look. I think this is going to take more than just some plain 'ol white chocolate. Call me, guys! Sebas complains about having to get married. Sara tries to invite Marina along for tortas, but she snottily turns her down. She'd rather eat alone!
But not really, because she tries to get one of the other guys to go with her. "Sorry, I have to fix up Sarita's office." Then she asks another group. "Oh, we ate a long time ago."
During the tour, Sara finds out where at least one of the bathrooms is. Rafa takes the opportunity to tell Nelson and Pepe they're waiting to see what happens with Antonio to put the "Trap Pedro" plan in motion. And oh, by they way, they need to zip it around Sara. "She's as talkative as Marina." The bunch of dumbasses stand there talking about how they'll take good care of Sara and won't it be nice to have a pretty woman around the place--no offense to Marina, but only Rafa finds her pretty. And Marina hears everything besides the part about Pedro. On second thought, even my chocolate expertise can't fix THAT mess. And also, screw you guys!
Ric, David, and Uribe run into each other at lunch, followed shortly by Antonio. Uribe suggests they ALL have lunch together. Greeeeeat…. Ric recommends that Antonio continue his work in San Gaspar. Uribe brings up his brilliant plan to catch the saqueadores. Damnit, Uribe! Antonio shoots him a dirty look and then says it's about beefing up David's new department and getting more community support. Ric thought bubbles that the stupid department is worthless--he's the one who made all the anonymous reports. His phone rings and he goes to deal with his nagging boss. Uh…his other boss. At the table, Uribe tells Antonio that that other board member dude still has to be consulted, but he's sure the dude will agree to let Antonio go back to San Gaspar. On the phone, Pedro is angry that Ric didn't get Sara hired. It was out of his hands, though, and she'll still be there as an assistant. Pedro wants direct contact with her boss and Ric reluctantly gives him David's name after Pedro reminds him that he (Pedro) is the one who gets to decide whether or not to bring David on board.
Juancho, Edwina, and Simon are nearly finished covering the rocket in foam for Simon's test. Juancho takes off early so he can run an errand in town. Leaving Simon and Edwina, ahem, alone with the rocket.
At Nacho's, Nacho is pleased to hear that Antonio filled Uribe in on the plan. Rafa tells him about Sara and what a great help she'll be with the legit work of running the community support department, but…she's too trusting and she doesn't know about Pedro and she might talk too much. Sara arrives and Nacho asks for a rocket update.
Sebas arrives for lunch with Titina and her mom. Her mom is not pleased with Titina's effusive greeting of him. Or of the fact that he was an hour late arriving. His excuse is he was at the bank, checking on his accounts and they're all frozen, including his credit cards, because of some error. The only money he has right now is what's in his wallet. And it will take three months to resolve the problem. He apologizes, but they'll have to postpone the wedding. Mama says there's no way! Even if it's a cheapo wedding, there WILL be a wedding, and they'll party at the house. Sebas says he can't even pay for Titina's wedding dress. "She'll wear mine!" Jajajajaja! Sebas is just so incredibly embarrassed…"Well, suck it up." Ultimately, Titina is pleased.
So. The rocket. It's ready. They’ll test it by closing the door and having Edwina shout from outside, as loud as she can. She can't seem to get it shut from the outside. Something is stuck. So Simon pulls her back inside and shuts it and…guess what?
No, come on, guess!
Well, it's not the first time she's been stuck in the rocket! But this time is worse, because she's claustrophobic, and it's pretty dim in there, aside from the instrument panel. And Simon hasn't figured out that it's good mood lighting and he can distract her from worrying about being trapped in the rocket.
Sara goes over to Laura's to tell her about the new job and that she needs Laura to run El Molcajete for her. Full time. Sara's also thinking of asking her mom to help out.
They can't get out, and there's no point screaming, because no one will hear them outside. Simon tries his cell phone, but…his battery is dead. And Edwina's purse is outside. She starts worrying about the oxygen running out. Simon tells her they didn't close off the airways yet. But there's nothing to eat! Simon says they won't die of hunger for days. He's sure he'll think of something, and gets her to breathe. But it just won't work. She's freaking out, screaming, and the thought that no one can hear them isn't helping. He tries to distract her, but, but, but…what about the bathroom? It's ready to use. But there's no privacy in here! There's a door. "Oh, you've thought of everything, haven't you?" Simon admits that where it comes to the rocket, yes. "THEN HOW DO WE GET OUT OF HERE?!" Simon: "…."
Pedro comes home and is a little grumpy that Sara is there with Laura because…Cheo's coming over. To talk about his new job. Sara and Laura are surprised to see him. Laura thinks he'll be out of there as soon as he finds out Sara and Antonio are getting married.
Edwina. The panic continues. The rocket material is well-built. They can't break out. Maybe Simon can use the communication interface to put a message on the computer outside . But will anyone be there to read it? "If you're reading this, get us out of the rocket…please."
Pedro is annoyed that seeing Sara affects Cheo so much. He tells him he'd better get used to seeing her, since she's a friend of his wife's. Cheo takes out his training manual and starts asking questions about the irrigation systems and their installation.
Rocket. Still trapped. Bruno wanders in…past the laptop…shuffles paperson the desk…glances back at the laptop…and shuts it without looking at the screen.
FIN!
Sara, please wish for a billion dollars...and then share it :D
sneaky, that's a really good question...Rosa was sure coming off like someone had broken her heart.
"Finally, Sebastian figures out why Marina is angry at him…and then Rafa realizes why Marina is angry at him. Something must be done!"
Why is Marina mad at Sebas & Rafa?
Off to read the recap!
"...makes a grumpy Pedro face." Makes? Doesn't he sort of have a resting grumpy face?
"...make sure she has as little information as possible because she talks too much and Pedro keeps hanging around her." Here's what makes this show great. Antonio is saying she talks to much, but I am sure it's one of the things he loves about her...even if it is causing him some trouble right now. He knows her chatter is an expression of her belief that there is good in everyone.
Awww...your description of the Marina scene is breaking my heart. I wish everyone would talk to her. I don't want her mad at or jealous of Sara.
"And also, screw you guys!" Um. Word. Big time.
"Damnit, Uribe!" Word. Big time. Again.
"Leaving Simon and Edwina, ahem, alone with the rocket." Well hubba hubba and waggle my eyebrows!
"No, come on, guess!" ♩♫Let's get it on.... ♪♫
"She's freaking out, screaming, and the thought that no one can hear them isn't helping." Well I guess they won't be gettin' it on.
Thanks again, Kat! Can't wait to actually watch the shenanigans.
I don't trust Uribe to keep info from Ric. And I can't believe David doesn't suspect him, when he's been so shady and erratic.
Thanks Recappers for all you have done here. I've been out of town with no cable, so your recaps were invaluable. I've caught up watching the episodes thru Wednesday's, but for some reason Thursday's didn't record.
I'll put up a recap for today's episode assuming my DVR cooperates.
Thanks again, jlk and Diva :-)

Titina's mom threatening Sebas with bodily harm, just like her sons, was hilarious.
La Vecina, Friday, January 1st , Part 1 ¡Feliz año nuevo a todos!
We repeat the scene where Bruno wanders into the shop and absently closes the laptop before he leaves, leaving Simón and Edwina completely stranded in the cohete.
As Uribe and Antonio exit the restaurant Anto mentions that it appeared that Uribe was watching Ricardo closely to see if he could detect any signs of treasonous behavior in Slick Ric. Yes, it’s true, and, by the way, Uribe says he spoke with Anto’s dad about Anto’s returning to San Gaspar. Eduardo was nun too happy about that prospect.
Sebas arrives at work to see that Marina is absent from her desk. He asks “Chucho” if he knows where she could be. Chucho says that Marina reported in sick, and so wouldn’t be in today. Sebas asks Chucho to be sure to tell her to get better quick because he really needs her – no, wait. Better not let her know how indispensable she is, She might get to full of herself.
Eduardo comes to Anto’s office to beg him to not return to San Gaspar. Doesn’t he realize what it does to a father to face the prospect of losing his son again?
Eduardo looks very ill, which seems like a “mal agüero” (bad sign, foreshadowing). “Doesn’t your desire to go back also have to do with Sara Granados?” suggests Eduardo. Anto admits that it does. “Then go to he marry her and bring her back here to live,” Eduardo implores. Anto says that he must not shirk his commitment to see his challenges through, just as his dad always taught him.
Anto also brings up the subject of his fathers dealings with Guillermo. Does his dad think that Anto’s cutting off his relationship with Isabel will reflect badly on his dad? Eduardo believes that Guillermo knows how to separate “lo personal” from his business dealings.
Sara is at Laura’s house discussing how to keep El Molcajete running while Sara is working at Conatrol. Sara calls her mom and asks if Merce can possibly leave her lavandería to oversee the kitchen at the restaurant. Maybe Merce’s friend Pati can fill in at the lavandería.
Isabel phones the auditor and tells him that if her father calls asking for the results of the audit, he is to make an excuse and not give over any info until Isa says to.
Nacho is at the comandancia conferring with Fidel about where along the pipeline to set up the pretend duct maintenance. They decide on a spot near the “ojo de agua.” Yep, it’s perfect as it provides plenty of cover for the police guys to hide in wait.
We see Marina sitting on a park bench lamenting out loud that she means nothing to her employers at Conatrol. She is like an ownerless dog. Maybe if she telephones, she can tell if anyone has missed her yet.
Chucho answers, which annoys the heck out of Marina. She asks him how things are going and does anyone need her at this point.
“Nope,” says Chucho, “We’re all good. As Ing.Morales said,’Nobody is indispensible.” Marina is super bummed.
Sebas calls Nelson into his office to tell Nelson about the “ojo de agua” plan. Nelson is to pass along this info to Pedro, but he is to be sure to not say anything to Sara as she can be a little to free with the sharing of facts.
La Vecina, Friday Part 2
[Theme song – Doo doo dee doo ... “Es mía, nada mááááss”]
Stranded in the cohete, Edwina and Simón try to find ways to pass the time. (Recapper can think of a couple, but they haven’t asked her.) They will do a “simulacro”(simulation). Simón tells Edwina to imagine that they are out in space far from the earth and far from their families. Edwina starts to cry as this scenario just makes her feel more lost and isolated. She says, “In space no one can hear you scream,” quoting a line from Alien.
Marina walks down a street, lamenting about her identity crisis, when she sees a help wanted sign in a storefront. “Secretary wanted. Must be very willing,” the sign announces. “I wonder what they mean by ‘willing’,” Marina muses. She peeks in the store to see a mini-clad woman working there. Marina decides she this business might not be a good fit.
Sebas seems distracted as Rafa tries to talk business with him. What’s the problem? Sebas explains that it looks like he will be marrying Titina on Saturday.
Why don’t you run away? Rafa suggests.
Sebas: Her brothers will hunt me down. They’re like bloodhounds, those two.
And I can’t poison her. That would harm “mi hijo.”
Nacho runs into Marina – almost literally, as he is on his motorcycle. When he asks her why she looks so sad, she cries in his arms about how nobody at Conatrol even misses her.
Simón and Edwina talk about what each would have liked to do or to study if they had made different choices in life. Then Simón talks about space and how the Earth has the appearance of a blue marble owing to the oceans and the atmosphere...they end up intertwining there hands.
Nacho is reporting to Rafa and Sebas. He tells how he ran into Marina and how distraught she is. Rafa and Sebas have an “Ah hah” moment and decide that they must make it up to Marina. But not a word to her about the secret “trap Pedro” operation, for her own safety and because she is also a bit overly “comunicativa.”
Fidel and Magda are having a hard time locating Edwina. They call Bruno’s house, but neither Bruno nor Juancho knows where they are either.
It’s nighttime now. Nelson gets in Pedro’s SUV. He knows who the new head of the Community Outreach Program is: it’s David Fernández.
Pedro: You had me come out here for this? I already know this!
Nelson: Oh dang. I guess your D.F. informant must have already told you about the maintenance too then.
Pedro: What maintenance?
Nelson tells Pedro that the sensors will be shut off for maintenance, and this will allow Pedro to drain all he wants. There’s no way for them to be discovered.
Pedro is buying it. He wants exact info regarding where and when.
Nelson: Como dice el dicho, “Para eso me pinto solo” (I got this!)
When Pedro brings out a wad of cash for Nelson, Nelson looks at it guiltily. Pedro half smiles, misunderstanding Nelson’s hesitation, and adds some more bills to the wad. He assures Nelson that he will earn plenty more if he keeps bringing this kind of valuable information to him.
Edwina is asleep on Simón’s shoulder. A bee buzzes by them both. As Simón swats at the bee, he wakes up Edwina. The bee lands on her neck and stings her! The good news is Simón successfully takes out the “aguijón”(stinger). The bad news is Edwina is alergic to the “piquete”(sting) of the bee!
Fidel and Magda argue about whether or not the disappearance of Edwina and Simón constitutes an emergency. Fidel says Edwina should not be hanging around a guy who only thinks about going to the moon. She needs a guy with his feet on the ground. “Well then, introduce her to a farmer or a miner,” Magda teases.
Sara, Bruno and Juancho are debating whether Juancho can have the last dinner roll, as it looks like Simón must still be with Edwina and not coming home to dinner. Doorbell rings. Sara opens. It’s Cheo. Can we talk?
Cheo just wants to explain that he’s working for don Pedro b/c he has a serious financial problem, not as a pretext to be near her. He just wanted to explain so that if they run into each other, things won’t be awkward between them. Sara says, no problem, she doesn’t harbor any grudges. She even has some nice memories of their time together. “I have thousands of them. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,” responds Cheo. (Dang! He’s so darned appealing here!) Oh wait. Now he’s answering the phone with Antonio calling, and pulling an Isabel by implying that he and Sara are hanging out. Arguing ensues. Cheo acts all innocent, but he’s glad to offer Sara a hug when she hangs up the phone.
Rafa and Sebas happen upon the scene mid hug. (Of course.)
Nelson meets up with Pepe outside of Nelson’s house. He shows Pepe the wad of cash that Pedro gave him. Nelson says that it was dirty money like this that will keep him from seeing his little girl grow up. She’ll be ashamed to know her father is in jail. Pepe reminds him that he, Nelson, is now doing the right thing and trying to repair the damage. Nelson describes how Pedro’s eyes lit up when Nelson told him that he would be able to drain “a sus anchas” (all he wants).
“His days are numbered,” Pepe opines.
Sebas and Rafa are in Anto’s apartment. They agree to not mention what they think they saw to Antonio. But Antonio calls and directs Sebas to immediately go over to Sara’s and drag that imbécil out of there!
At Sara’s, Cheo is being his manipulative self, pretending to support Sara and Antonio, while offhandedly suggesting that maybe this whole Antonio thing is a bad idea.
Rafa and Sebas. Should Sebas go over and confront Cheo? (Um, yeeesss!)
Cheo to Sara: Jealousy changes a person. Just thinking of all the crazy things I did from jealousy over you! I get Antonio. He’s just thinking “Where there was fire, there are still embers.” (Cheo takes Sara’s hand.) He doesn’t realize that there’s no chance of us being together again – or is there?
He moves in to kiss her.
Doorbell rings (finally!).
Sebas and Rafa need to go over some of Sara’s Conatrol responsibilities with her. Cheo’s eyes shoot flames. He takes his leave.
Sara says to Sebas, “There isn’t any work, is there.”
Sebas admits that Antonio sent them. Sara is furious that Antonio doesn’t trust her. When Anto calls on Sebas’ phone, Sara refuses to talk to him. She shoos the guys from the apartment.
La Vecina, Friday Part 4
Back in Anto’s apartment, Sebas describes what happened, including how Cheo left when Rafa told him that Anto and Sara were getting hitched when Antonio gets back from the D.F.. Anto is “infinitamente” grateful to Rafa.
Fidel and Quintín look for Edwina at Simón’s bodega, but no luck. Fidel decides they will search the orchard. Why would they be in the orchard? Quintín asks.
Fidel rolls his eyes.
Bruno and Juancho emerge from their bedrooms. Did we hear Sebastian in here? Bruno asks.
Sara explains how they, Sebas and Rafa, mistook the consolation hug for
Something else.
“Hey, a hug is a hug,” offers the no-filter Juancho.
“Antonio’s gotta be going crazy,” says Bruno.
Sara: “I didn’t invite him. He was just trying to console me.”
Juancho: “So Cheo is your Go-To person for somebody to tell your troubles to?”
[Cue the music.]
Like you, I could have also suggested plenty of other things Simon and Edwina could have done in that rocket. Oh well...
Although I'm not a fan of jealousy, I think Tonio was totally right to want Cheo out of there. Sara was being an idiot. Cheo was clearly coming on to her, and was up to all his old tricks again. Did she really not see it? She needs to open her eyes.
"[Theme song – Doo doo dee doo ... “Es mía, nada mááááss”]"
I look forward to this little bit every week! I love how you vary the lines to single out.
"(Recapper can think of a couple, but they haven’t asked her.)"
Oh this whole series of scenes. So much tension, so much sweetness.
"Then Simón talks about space and how the Earth has the appearance of a blue marble owing to the oceans and the atmosphere...they end up intertwining there hands."
Such a beautiful scene...
"Rafa and Sebas have an “Ah hah” moment and decide that they must make it up to Marina."
They certainly must!!! They have been jackasses to her.
"Doorbell rings (finally!)."
Finally indeed. What a frustrating latter half this episode. Why did Sara get all pissy about Antonio being jealous if she got all mopey and think-the-worsty when Isa pulled her crap??? It's a bit hypocritical.
Thank you again, Denise!
Hi, Vivi and Sara!
Thanks for commenting. It's just so nice to know somebody is "out there."
Vivi - "Cheo was clearly coming on to her, and was up to all his old tricks again. Did she really not see it? She needs to open her eyes." So true. I thought the writing was really skillful in this scene - the way they had Cheo working her.
Sara - "Why did Sara get all pissy about Antonio being jealous if she got all mopey and think-the-worsty when Isa pulled her crap???" Indeed. It's kind of like the way other people's faults are so clear to me, whereas mine - not so much! Ha ha.
Denise
I'm looking for next week's San Gaspar happenings.
Looking ahead- to the best of my knowledge, La Vecina will end in Mexico on the 15th. We are 4 weeks behind.
Did I already post this info somewhere?
"...makes a grumpy Pedro face." Makes? Doesn't he sort of have a resting grumpy face? yes, yes he does Sara ;P
"– no, wait. Better not let her know how indispensable she is, She might get to full of herself." ungh Sebas you idiot - I am not ok with making Marina feel bad - bad Sebas, bad Rafa *hand slap*
Poor Edwina can't catch a break, why couldn't Simon have kissed her to stop her panic? Whyyy?
And now she got bee stung, too bad they don't have a lemon in there, my mom's seriously allergic to bee stings (she passes out, and needs hospitalization, ect) and the last time she got stung she put lemon juice on it and it neutralized the sting and she didn't pass out or have to go to the hospital at all.
"Edwina and Simón try to find ways to pass the time. (Recapper can think of a couple, but they haven’t asked her.)" No kidding. I don't know whether to be annoyed with them or admire their self-control.
Thank you especially for the Cheo stuff, because I was mostly screaming in my head, so I wasn't paying enough attention to what was actually going on.
Wow...Juancho...our little floppy-haired miscreant is growing up.
Sara - does that mean we're looking at a finale sometime around Valentine's day?
"Resting grumpy face!" Ha! That's awesome. Maybe he's related to Grumpy Cat :D
sneaky - that's a good trick with the lemon juice. I don't think I'm allergic, but every time I've gotten stung it's always a little bit worse than the last time.
Sara, LV ends in MX either Friday Jan. 22 or Sunday Jan. 24
