Yago #63, Wednesday August 31, 2016: Finding Omar
The brief edition:
Ximena "liberates" Yago when she sees that he's still not happy. While Sara campaigns to get Yago back, Yago spends most of the episode trying to find his inner Omar. He also makes a deal with Lucio: Yago will cut Sara loose for good, so Lucio can have her all to himself. In exchange, Lucio will clear the way for Yago to be with Matias.
But Yago changes his mind at the last minute and decides that he cannot be Omar if he doesn't have Sara. So, he reunites with Sara. BOOOOOOOO!
Lucio's gonna be SO mad!
The blow-by-blow: below.
It is Mati, of all people, who gives us the opening statement as he kicks a soccer ball around with Jonas and watches a new family move in next door. Mati eyes a pretty girl neighbor and tells us that love is like a kick in the head. It makes you dumb.
On the TV news, Mati sees his mother's new husband lying dead on the floor of his bedroom, his face soaking in a puddle of blood. (Seriously? Do they really show this stuff on the news? Cops/homeowners allow TV cameras at the scene while the body's still there?) This is how Mati finds out that his stepfather committed suicide.
Yago is at Ximena's place. Ximena's been packing to move. Yago says, "at last I am a free man." Ximena asks about Lucio and Sara. Yago explains that Fidel said in his letter to Selma that they had lost too many in this war. Lucio and Sara are the two that Yago lost. "I learned from Fidel and Selma to take the chance to be happy before it's too late."
Yago insists that he is happy, but Ximena notices that he isn't smiling like a happy man. He admits that after years of planning his vengeance, now he feels empty. It's just as if one day Ximena didn't paint any more. "What would you do then?" he asks. (Note to self: when you plan a vendetta, plan some fun activities for afterwards as well.)
Ximena doesn't like the sound of that. In fact, she thinks Yago needs to be with Sara. "I can't save you," she declares. We can see that her heart, which Yago had promised not to break, is going to pieces.
Abel assures Julia that Camilo is truly and surely dead, but declines to explain exactly how he knows that. He also assures her that Camilo paid for all he had done, and didn't suffer.
Yago meets Abel, Sara, and Lucio on the roof. Sara says that Camilo's will gives half of his assets to Julia, and the other half to Sara. The four amigos will split her share. Yago announces that with this, their business is done. Abel wants to be at Yago's side, but Yago says it's time for all of them to start a new life, especially Abel. Surprised, Lucio asks, don't we have some unfinished business? Yago says no.
Sara follows Yago and calls him "Omar." She thinks they can be together now. Yago says no. There really is no unfinished business between them, he says. "So you used me to kill Camilo, and nothing more?" she asks. "Sorry, Sara," Yago replies, "I haven't loved you since the day of Omar's judgement. It's all been a revenge plan since then." Sara doesn't believe him.
Lucio tells Abel to go. Abel tells Lucio they've done some bad things, but now they can start over. Hugs.
Later, at the casino, Sara reviews some offers to buy the casino. She muses with Lucio over the irony that the casino they once robbed is now hers, and she's getting rid of it. Lucio wants Sara back. Sara says never; she loves Omar. Lucio replies, "Omar is dead. We killed him."
Abel is at Yago's. Yago is trying to find Omar within himself. Abel grabs a baseball bat and encourages his two-faced friend to join him in smashing up all the stuff that is Yago's. Yomar watches Abel destroy a few things (take a good look at the first thing Abel hits - we'll see it again later), then joins in the destruction. They knock over a whole wall of shelves, then go into the war room and trash that too. Yago sees himself in a mirror and says, "that man is pure hate. He doesn't know how to love. He hijacked Omar!" SMASH!
Finally, he says to Abel, "the more I try to get away from Yago, the more I still can't find Omar."
Sara brings Julia a gift basket of baby stuff and conveys her condolences over the loss of Fidel, Selma, and Camilo. Julia asks, did you ever love Camilo? Sara says no. Julia says poor Camilo, no woman loved him, only me. Sara explains that she didn't love Camilo for the same reason that she didn't love Lucio - because neither of them is Omar.
Realizing what Sara wants from her, Julia replies, "I can't help you. Yago deserves a better person." Sara insists that she's never stopped loving Omar. "Someday you'll understand," she promises.
Sara goes to see Jonas and Melina to tell them about Camilo. They already know - because Mati told them. He saw it on the news, and it's in all the papers. They ask, what did Sara have to do with that? Sara declines to go over the details, and says she wants Omar back. Melina reacts: "HOW DARE YOU." Sara promises, "I'll tell you the whole truth about Matias, and then you'll support me." But Jonas says, "we won't let you take him away."
Sara says she's his mother, and when she sells Camilo's house she'll get a place of her own, and they can't stop her from taking Mati. Just then, Bruno comes home with Mati, and everyone clams up. Poor Mati can probably feel the tension.
Sara takes Mati outside and tells him that she'll even let him pick the house they live in. But Mati doesn't want to move, because he likes the new girl next door. But he thinks their love is impossible, and he'll never be able to talk to her. Sara assures him that no love is impossible.
Teo goes to Yago's house and offers to return his keys. Yago doesn't want them. He asks how Katia is doing. "Oh, so now you care," Teo remarks sarcastically. He doesn't know where she is. Yago whines again that he wants to get his Omar back. Omar wouldn't have abandoned Katia or let her go.
However, Yago is able to tell Teo where Katia used to get her drugs. You'd think after her last visit there she would have found a new supplier, but apparently there is only one drug dealer in all of Mexico. Teo finds out (after paying several bribes to reach the actual dealer) that Katia was there yesterday. She bought several hits, but then came back a few minutes later. She hadn't used any of the stuff, and wanted a refund (which she didn't get).
Julia tells Abel about Sara's visit. Abel describes Sara as a giant scorpion and says not to worry about her. He also says that he loves Julia, and has never been so sure of anything in his life. Later, they look at their perfect baby on the ultrasound at the doctor's office.
Sara takes Mati to the carnival and tells him about Omar. It was love at first sight. They fell in love (or declared their love?) at this carnival. The day he gave her the ring, he dropped it on the floor. Sara made a mistake -
Mati interrupts. "You sent him to jail and he died there. That's why Melina and Jonas don't like you. You broke his heart."
Sara says she's regretted that every day, but she doesn't regret loving Omar. Love is stronger than anything, she says.
Remember that first thing that Abel broke at Yago's house? It's mysteriously repaired, or else there were two of them and this one was spared from the rampage, because Yago is sitting right next to it now. Lucio approaches. Here is a paraphrase of their conversation:
Yago: I want Matias.
Lucio: You miss Omar. Is that why you want Mati?
Y: No, I want him 'cuz he's mine.
L: No, he's mine.
Y: When he finds out what you've done, he won't love you any more. Look what happened to Camilo and Julia. I will tell him everything.
L: Don't you dare! I have documents from Camilo showing that Omar is alive. You'll go to jail!
Yago offers Sara in exchange from Mati. Yago can help Lucio get Sara back, and Lucio can get Mati to accept Yago. Yago will leave Sara alone.
Yago and Lucio go for a ride to Camilo's house. Yago pays some guy to take some flowers to Sara. Yago's part of the deal is now done. Lucio asks that Mati never find out about the heist. Mati deserves to think that Lucio is a good person. Yago agrees to that. Lucio calls him "Omar," and they shake hands. (As I type this, I feel like I should be getting all misty-eyed, but the transaction is actually pretty chilly.)
Sara receives the flowers and looks at the card. I don't know if it's supposed to be legible, but even if I zoom the picture I can only read some of it: "I'll wait for you tonight in the place of [incoherent squiggle]. - Omar" I suppose the important thing is that Sara is able to read it.
Yago is having dinner with the Guerreros. (Mati is not present.) They discuss Sara's and Yago's plans to get Mati.
Mati is outside, speaking awkwardly with the neighbor girl. They admit that they like one another, but Mati says he'll be moving away soon and will have to love her from afar. He says his mother also has an impossible love, not because of distance but because she did something she shouldn't have. But her love is stronger than ever. It's destiny. It's stronger than death!
Yago, who came outside looking for Mati, overhears this and takes off in a panic.
Sara goes to the place that was so eloquently squiggled. There are candles everywhere. She finds another note from Omar: "Our love was so great, so intense, that it never should have begun. Don't look for me any more; it's all over."
Sara is devastated. Yago drives up at that moment. She is ready to give him a piece of her mind, but Yago explains: "Don't you realize that I've all but done the impossible to get away from you? To forget you? To hate you? And despite it all, I am condemned to be with you. In spite of everyrhing. I wanted to leave all this behind and just be Omar, and I've realized that Omar cannot exist without you, Sara."
Kiss. Hug. Barf.

He tried. He really tried to get away from her, but he just couldn't. But, this is no fairy tale, and Lucio is no fairy godfather, and there will be hell to pay. Let the mayhem begin!
Sad to say, I didn't see this coming. I watched the whole episode wondering where we were going. Then I saw Yago watching Mati tell his neighbor-girl about his mother and I said, "oh no oh no oh no oh no"...
Steve, you call that bold? I'd bet money that Lucio's going to start a bloodbath. He and Yago had a deal. Yago totally busted that deal.
Awesome recap, Julie! I chuckled at your expression of feelings about Yomar's declaration of love to Sara. By the way, the place he had her go was the place he originally proposed to her.
I actually thought Sara was going to tell Mati that Omar was his father during their talk. The groundwork has definitely be laid for her to add that part of the story at a later point though.
Now, we get to watch the Lucio bomb explode.
As for Katia, very glad that she's got some willpower left and could return the drugs. Is she sleeping on a street corner somewhere? As far as finding a new dealer...I would assume that would be a difficult thing to find. Not like you can Google one or look them up in the yellow pages. Trying to solicit one on a street corner would be dangerous or land you in jail. So you go with the devil you know. I hope Teo finds her quickly. She needs to go back to rehab...or that hot ex boyfriend of hers, because I wouldn't mind seeing Alex Sirvent again. ;-)

Thanks Julie. Yesterday came and went without managing to visit CarayCaray although I did watch the episode at some point, with the usual sick feeling in my stomach. Okay, Matias likes the girl next door but no kid, that age, (or probably any age) talks like that to a girl. "Amor impossible"...por favor! No way. Nice setup though for Sara and Omar getting back together. I guess we're all feeling an assassination by Lucio is on the bloody horizon.

Judy B: Looking like Teo, Katia, Bruno, Jonas, Melina, Matias, Abel, Julia & Ximena will be likely the only ones living!
I was horrified by the carnage too, Judy, but to be fair most of the stuff they smashed were decorative knickknacks and tchotchkes. I mean, they might have been expensive, but they're not good for much. Most of the furniture was spared.
However, when I see that kind of destruction, I always wonder, who's going to clean it up? That's what keeps ME from smashing up all my stuff!

Yeah, it looked like all the useful stuff, like furniture and flatware, were spared. Loved how you caught the reappearing object, Julie. But he did have two of almost all those tchotchkes, so it could have just been another one. I have been thinking that they must have shot the "ghost" scenes of Fidel and Selma before they did the scenes where they got shot and their outfits covered in blood. Or, they had some duplicate outfits.
I love the title, by the way. It was was pretty much an episode about existential crisis. Who is Yago? Is Omar still alive? How can Omar be revived? With Sara's love, apparently. Which makes some sense, as it was Sara's betrayal that destroyed him.

So now we know that Yago/Omar has learned NOTHING from the Fidel/Selma/Camilo tragedy. He consistently misreads others and how they are likely to react to his shifting positions. Our original compañeres don't need any help from mafia dons or sociopathic hitmen to manufacture their own doom. Oy vey. They may be dancing on the knife edge, but Yago is the choreographer now,

You're right – Yago owes Lucio nothing. But Yago/Omar is in "let it all hang out" mode and Lucio is still loaded with secrets and intrigue. It would take a clever scheme to cut Lucio out and renege on that idiotic promise, but does Yago/Omar have it in him at this point? He's pretty much on his own right now, having alienated Teo and Katia. Abel means well but always manages to mess up... I can't see him willing to give up or even share custody of Mati, but who knows?
I think we're done with the big revenge schemes that need to involve other people, elaborate plans, and an army of guards. Teo and Katia, even if they were on good terms with Yago right now, have nothing to do with this now, and should stay out of it. Even Abel, who is part of the original four, should stay out of it. This is between Yomar, Sara and Lucio, and the feelings of love, hurt, betrayal, envy and jealousy between them. Let the three of them duke it out, shoot it out, cry it out, hug it out, or whatever the three of them need to move on.

Niecie- That was pretty funny. Also, after that, the dealer told Teo that Katia is so damned short (chaparrita) and skinny (flaquita), that even being off drugs she wouldn't last long on the streets.
Julie- On your question on whether Mexican news would show something as graphic as a body with a gunshot wound to the head, the answer is yes. LatAm news in general is not afraid to show the gore of dead bodies at crime scenes. Even in the evening news programs on Uni and Telemundo, they often show graphic crime scene images from LatAm that we sometimes get glimpses of during commercial breaks. Jarocha mentioned some time ago that there is now a movement in Mexico to force the media to NOT show such graphic images from crime scenes related to the carnage the narcos/mafia are leaving behind, because it's become too much.
That's amazing. I'm surprised the police allow the cameras around while they're investigating a scene, but perhaps there is a long delay before the body is carted away.
I guess I'm shocked more by the insensitivity to the family than the ooky appearance. I know some people enjoy looking at that stuff and I don't think it's good to pander to their fascination with bleeding flesh, but more to the point, I'm concerned about the dignity of the victims and their families.
Maybe not so much the likes of Camilo. He's a fictitious monster. But if something happened to a member of my family, I would not want the images available to all and sundry.

Thank you, Julie for this stellar recap and for all the others you contributed over the run of this show. I watched the episode, read the recap and had a verbose rant in mind. However, since I was pressed for time, I thought I'd leave it for later. Then I watched Thursday's episode to get a head start on my recap and now I feel that I can't comment on the action even in the slightest bit because I know too much! Drat! It was a good rant too! Oh well, I'll say this, I'm glad that Ximena get the heck outta dodge and I'm also glad that little Vero, Mati's crush, will not get a chance to be too involved with Mati. The boy is precious but the combo of those Madrigal and Guerrero genes, mixed in with Sarquis upbringing and a whole lot of Yagology mixed in, is just a recipe for disaster!

Nandicta- That's why I usually don't read a Yago recap before I've seen the episode, because SO much happens between one episode to the next, which makes what you thought the episode before irrelevant. Looking forward to watching Thursday's episode this evening and then reading your recap later.

I'm curious how the Mexican audience with take this relationship. Will they be for it or against it. I, for one, am not pleased with them ending up together. And Lucio better not get off without punishment for everything he's done. Will Julia get Abel to cut off his rattail? Does she like it?
I hate destruction like Yago and Abel did, it's so pointless. It gives me agida when I see it. So wasteful.
