We see Hurrem’s first visit with Suleiman after the ring dustup. He tells her she’s the most beautiful gift. She asks if he’ll grant her a desire. “Islam is your religion, and I want to be like the rest here. I want to see the world through your eyes, to perceive life as you see it. I would like religion to bring us as close as love does.” Suleiman: “You want to convert to being a Muslim?” “Yes”, she replies, “with her whole heart. Is it permitted?” Smiling fondly he tells her that Islam doesn’t reject anyone who seeks it.
He covers her head with a piece of satin fabric and tells her she needs to proclaim her testimony of faith. He has her say some words which seem to me to be analogous to the Apostles’ Creed in Christianity. Testifico que no hay otro dios que Ala y tesifico que Mahoma es su serviente y mensajero. I’m unclear about this, but it seems that saying these words is all that is required.
The Queen Mother comes to castigate Mahidevran for sinking so low as to steal a ring from a concubine. She tells her to stop being a child. To wake up!
Mahidevran is awakened by pains. She sees blood on the sheets. She’s lost the baby she was expecting.
Hurrem nods pleasantly to Ibrahim, who ignores her. She doesn’t like this, but we see in the next scene that Ibrahim was worried about breaking the news of the miscarriage to the sultan.
Hurrem is walking through a corridor, her demeanor happy. M sees her. She grabs her and says it’s her fault. Hurrem doesn’t know what she’s talking about. M proceeds to give her a terrible beating, mostly around the face. [I don’t understand why Hurrem doesn’t resist this attack.] Then M gets scared that she’s killed her.
Firial, the younger harem maven sees what happens and rushes for Sambul and Daye, the older harem boss. When Daye sees what happens, she intones: “May Allah help us.” Daye plans to cover this whole thing up and doesn’t want a doctor to attend Hurrem.
Hatice continues to pine for Ibrahim.
Suleiman comes to comfort M. He tells her she’ll have lots of his children.
Firial tells Sambul that they must call a doctor. What if she dies?
Suleiman warmly greets Kasim Pasha, an older councilor who has been ill.
The Queen Mother tells M that she ought to be ashamed of what she did. She’s just glad that no one saw it. M lies to the QM, saying that Hurrem said she’d throw her, Mustafa and the QM out of the palace.
Suleiman tells his counselors that today is a unique day for their state and its existence. The unbeliever, Luis, rather than pay his taxes, decapitated our emissary. He asks for their opinion, clearly not a despot. They all agree that a declaration of war is appropriate. It’s interesting that, this time, Ibrahim is not in the room, only eavesdropping outside.
King Luis says that Suleiman won’t ever leave his palace. Some guy tells him that the Vatican thinks he made a big mistake beheading the emissary and sending Suleiman the head. Luis, arrogant as always, says that the Pope can go ahead and deny him paradise.
Hatice the QM and Mustafa watch the ceremony of declaring war. There’s some custom that, if the sultan’s golden helmet is in the patio, this means war.
Sambul puts raw meat on Hurrem’s face, telling Daye this should help heal the bruising. He tells her that the sultan could ask for her at any moment. Who can they tell him did this?
Hurrem’s friend, Maria is asking about her.
Ibrahim tells Suleiman that the boats are nearly ready and asks if they are to leave as soon as possible. Suleiman tells him yes. Mustafa approaches and says he wants to go to war with his father. Suleiman lifts him up and asks him who would then take care of the palace. Suleiman tells Mustafa there will be no brother or sister.
Some guy we’ve seen before, a Venetian, I believe, is told that Suleiman declared war. He tells this guy to tell the Vatican and the idiot in Buda (Luis) that the map of the world is about to change.
Daye tells the QM that a doctor is with Hurrem and no one can see her except Firial. The QM tells Daye that Hatice has been distracted lately. She was too young to be a widow, and it breaks her heart to see her. It’s time to find her a husband, young and from a good family.
Suleiman tells Ibrahim that love makes one happy, as if they were in paradise. And he’s in love. He also tells him about Hurrem’s desire to convert to Islam. “She loves me. I don’t want anyone to come between us. Love changes everything. How could I have lived without it before?”
The harem women gossip about Hurrem’s absence. She wakes, gets up, sees her face in the mirror, and cries. She says that that snake did this and swears to kill her.
One of the pashas tells Suleiman that the small size of the new boats makes them faster and able to carry more weight. Snarky Aga again says something to Ibrahim, who only replies in a dignified way that they all need to serve the empire.
Suleiman is getting dressed and calls for Hurrem! Ibrahim gets annoyed with Sambul, telling him to hurry and get her.
Hurrem refuses some soup Daye is trying to feed her. Sambul comes in saying that Suleiman is asking for her. Hurrem says she has a solution. We see Ibrahim tell Suleiman that Hurrem doesn’t want to come tonight. Her condition doesn’t permit it. He’s not used to people saying no to him and is angry. “Bring her!”
She doesn’t come. Suleiman calls her impudent and storms out in a fury. The women all bow their heads when he enters a room. Firial is at the door of Hurrem’s room and he pushes past her. We see him look toward the bed, but don’t see his reaction upon seeing her.
GOD BLESS ,WHO EVER RECAPS.. this cray cray…cause, the writers...need their aszz whup on GP!!
DONDI!!!..
…. it was madness...!!!too much.. and when they all left Catamedia Holding the Bag!!!
that said a lot.. forget you!!! hold -your-own-nuts!!
WELL.. THAT WAS SOME.. BULLCRAP..HORSE-PUCKY ENDING...
VERY UNHAPPY..
DEB: thanks a bunch!!
HOWEVER..I WILL WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR...CAUSE THEY LEFT TOO MANY HOLES!!!!!!!
Halimacandy, at first I was impressed by the action scenes, how Albiero came to his senses and the many victims banding together against Diabla, but the lightning flash blurbs of "where are they now updates" at the end was insulting to us fans when I replayed it to carefully reread the English captions. Half the major characters were left out!
So I checked the series' translated Facebook page and 100% of its THOUSANDS of fans are furious! They had the same complaints. It also looks like the cast aren't on today's morning show to face furious fans. Fans wished for an extra hour and fewer flashbacks, and I noticed that Telemundo devoted SEVEN HOURS to Miss Universe on Sunday! Telemundo could have given 4 of those to El Final and inserted some of those missing 40 episodes to replace the flashbacks. Another fan also wondered about those 40 episodes.
LOL about CM being left holding the bag! What a perfect metaphor for Telemundo execs ditching us fans and the cast.
Yesterday, I posted 2 comments on the previous page that may have been too late for anyone to read. I worried that suddenly cancelled El Final would get the same crappy end that suddenly cancelled ABC's mystery sci-fi "Flashforward" got. Let's hope fan protests get those 40 episodes aired.

I see some have commented, but I promised a recap for the gran final. It will be up soon.
Thanks for your patience.

El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
Llegó tu Hora - Your Time has Come
I could sum this up in three words: WTF!
Who was that masked man? At the hospital we see a masked hospital orderly, Shadow, wheeling out a masked patient, Titi. They make it right past Valeria, Leon and the security detail unnoticed. A quick hush to Hilda, who does notice, and they are out of the hospital.
Hilda calls out to Valeria and Val asks her if she wants to accompany them into Albeiro’s room. Hilda says yes, but first she’d like a favor. Swallowing her disgust, Hilda says to Val, I really meant it when I said you are an amazing woman and I ask that you take back what you said about Cata. Flashback to the news conference where Valeria proclaimed Cata public enemy number one. Hilda says, she’ll never be like you, but you know my daughter is a good woman. It’s not the time or place, but gracious Valeria will consider it. Now, Albeirito, let’s all go see daddy.
Al’s still out of it. Val places Jr. on his bed--your son is here. Flashback to when bewitched Al held newborn Albeirito in his arms with Diabla looking on from the doorway. Very touching scene. He always wanted a son, to teach him what it means to be a real man. Being rich doesn’t matter; if you have a pure heart, doors will open for you. Live a good life on the right path. Diabla enters the room, wouldn’t you like him to be our son, Albeiro? Yes.
Val speaks to Al, since you rescued me from Diabla’s hell, this is my way of paying you back. You have to get through this for your family and everyone who loves you. Hilda says it might be best if we leave him alone and let him rest. Besides, the hospital is no place for a child. Val wants to try one more time. Al wakes up, sees his son and starts talking to him. Val smiles that slimy smile. Hilda looks shocked.
Suddenly, we are magically transported with Hilda to Sal’s bedside. Sal apologizes to her. Hilda thinks she’s the one who should apologize. She should have believed him. He’s brought her good things, believed in her. She says, you loved me but I believed people I didn’t know. Sal understands. They won’t talk about it anymore. Sal will make a full recovery. And they make a full reconciliation.
Switch back to Al’s room. He thanks Val for rescuing his son. No thanks necessary. She did it because she loves him; she never stopped loving him. She promised and delivered. She’s also willing to take the DNA test so he will realize she’s not a liar and not Yesica Beltran. Bobeiro tells her, you’re not a liar and you’re not Yesica either. Yesica would never do anything nice for me. Al says, you’ve made me the happiest man in the world, you’ve returned my son. But you still have something more important to do—you have to become president of this country. (this is proof that one too many punches to the head can cause brain damage.) Yes, she knows, but none of it is more important to her than Al.
Hilda’s arriving home. Quickly, Catagrande and Vane hide Catamedia. Hilda is startled by Jota outside as she’s opening the door. He says am I that ugly? They laugh. CataG greets them at the door. (Where’s Al? I thought he was going home with Hilda?) Jota says we will laugh some more when we celebrate. What celebration? CataG says we have a surprise for you. It’s CataM!!
A moving reunion. Hilda wants to know what happened. CataG says, Mariana. Mari was holding her hostage all this time. She had CataM and Hernan Dario and did awful things to them. And where is Hernan Dario? He’s Mari’s bargaining chip. CataG says, we will do everything we can to rescue him.
dondi356
El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
A call from Mari removes Cata from the family reunion. CataG asks if she has thought it over and decided to hand over Nachi. No answer on that but Mari’s been thinking and she needs to see her mom. Mari is drinking and crying. She tells Cata, I think it was a mistake to take my daughter with me. I need to give her back and I need to apologize to you. Cata wants her location and she will meet her. Cata grabs her jacket and gun and she’s out the door in a flash. Vane, Jota and Hilda run out after her, leaving a bewildered and anxious CataM behind.
Mateo and Maribel are at Sal’s bedside. Sal wants to take care of Hilda for the rest of his life. He especially wants to protect her from Jo. Maribel assures Sal that Jo is in prison. Yes, but she’s still dangerous. Mateo tells Sal about Angelina Roberts, that she wants to be Hilda’s manager. Sal says, what are we waiting for? Mateo says Hilda won’t talk to her and he’s afraid that Hilda will miss out on the opportunity. Angelina won’t wait forever.
We cut to Angelina searching Buscaloo for info on Hilda. Lots of pics of Hilda and Sal. Hmm, she says to herself, Hilda’s a gold mine but who is she? (You mean she didn’t find Mateo’s exposé? I would think it still exists somewhere in the internet)
Cut to Mari with Catica outside in the middle of nowhere. You’re the best thing I have in this life, little one. CataG drives up, smiling and happy to see her granddaughter. (I guess Vane, Jota and Hilda decided to stay with CataM.) We see Alex and Yadith with a sniper’s rifle, overlooking the scene on a nearby hilltop. Mari says, thanks mom and the three embrace. Cut to Alex, do you have her? Yadith is looking through the scope, lining up her shot. Wait, don’t shoot yet.
Mari needs Cata to look after Catica. She fought hard to get her back but realizes that the girl’s life is in danger. Cata loves Catica like her own and yes, it’s best for her to be with grandma. Cata says she will never stop asking Mari to turn herself in. Mari will have to pay for everything she has done but at least she will be able to watch Catica grow up.
Mari says, they are looking for me now and I don’t want Catica caught in the crossfire. Mom, she couldn’t be in better hands than yours. With a kiss, she hands Catica over. Cata promises to do everything she can to help Mari. Mari falls to her knees, crying—no, I’m sorry mom! Please forgive me. None of this was your fault. I chose this life. I love you both. Cata gets down to embrace Mari. Cata is sobbing, you have no idea how long I’ve waited for this to happen. I prayed for so long.
Alex says to Yadith, get ready…
Cue the theme, El Final del Paraiso, for the last time.
dondi356
El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
Mothers forgive, Cata says. Mari swears on her life that she will be like her mom. Alex gives the order to fire. Yadith hits Mari dead center in the chest. Alex and Yadith laugh. Cata is screaming for her daughter. She picks up Catica and starts shooting in the direction of the shot. Cata manages to run to her SUV and places Catica inside--stay here! She runs back to Mari. Mariana, no! No, no you can’t die now!
Yadith asks should she fire again. Alex says no, we already killed her. Besides, he wants to watch her suffer. I guess he’s referring to Cata. Cata drags Mari behind her SUV, screaming, God, no! Not my daughter! Alex says let’s go.
Cata cradles Mari, mommy’s here. Lots of blood all over Mari and Cata. Mari’s final words: Always… tell my daughter… about me. Tell her that I lived, that I loved her. No, Mariana, don’t leave me. Mari dies in Cata’s arms.
As Alex and Yadith are leaving, suddenly, there’s Reina pointing a gun at Cuina! Cuina says to Alex, you got what you wanted. Are we partners? No, because Reina shoots and kills her sister. (Head spinning moment, how did all this happen?) Reina says a gift for Santa Muerte. Alex says, why did you kill her? We need Moncho! Ay, don’t worry, says Reina, kids always return to their mothers.
At the billar, Titi is introduced to Amparo’s kids. They say Diabla killed their mom. Titi says it happens in some families. It’s worse to be betrayed by family.
Leon tells Val that Cuina is dead. What’s up with Natalia and Ivan? They fell of the face of the Earth. Val says you will, too if you don’t find them. She can’t risk the presidency.
Shadow’s phone rings. It’s Alex. He wants to meet. Shadow’s not sure. Alex says you will know where I am, you could turn me in or meet with me.
So Al is at Hilda’s after all. He is playing with Jr. and his teddy bear. Jr. throws it and Al sees that it’s ripped. He takes a closer look and finds the documents and the photo of Karla and Leticia that Marcela hid. Ding, ding, ding! The fog has lifted. The truth hits Al right between the eyes.
Shadow is on his way to meet Alex.
At the billar, Titi asks a bloodied, sobbing Cata what happened? (Where are the kids?) They killed my daughter, Titi! The look on this his face, OMG! They killed her, they killed her! What can he say, he’s sorry. He knows she’s thinks he’s partly to blame. And he knows how much he loves Cata. That’s it. She cries, Love? You want to talk about love? I don’t want to hear about love! They killed my daughter! I held her as she died! She apologized and said she loved me.
The love he feels for Cata and the guilt he feels over Mari leads Titi to make a drastic move. He gives Cata his gun—kill me! Cata screams, damn, Titi! Yes, she wants to kill someone right now. She wants to kill everyone who has hurt her and her family. Ok then, do it, kill me, says Titi. Cata pulls her own gun and she’ll start with Titi. He’s ready, it’s only fair. He goes to his knees, her gun following him down, pointed on his forehead. She can’t do it. He buries his head in her body. She’s sobbing all the while. He asks her again to kill him so he can make amends. Put an end to this. He’s so crazy in love with her. Very emotional. Wow.
dondi356
El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
Cut to Shadow on the plane with Alex. Alex knows he treated Shadow badly and he regrets it. People have turned their backs on him. All he has is Sebas, Yadith and Reina. Shadow says, are you asking me to betray people who trust me, who helped me? No dad, I just want you by my side. I want to give you the place Black Hand never gave you. Shadow doesn’t know. Alex says, if you are not with me, I will be killed. Shadow pulls his son in for a hug. Alex has an evil smile on his face. His plan is working.
Moncho opens the door to Reina. Thanks for coming, mom. Don’t even, says Reina. She’s angry with him. How are you going to make a comeback now? No mention of Mari.
Cata is planning the kidnap of Diabla before election results are in. Vane, Jota, Amparo’s kids, Titi are listening. This will be difficult. We will get her on the way to her voting place. Our advantage is Valeria is registered in a nearby town.
Valeria is talking to the press. The polls are conclusive. They suggest Val will be president. Val is on her way to vote and will wait for the results. A reporter asks, what message would you like to give to women? Dream big, don’t limit yourself. We can accomplish everything men can. Can anything stop her? Enough questions for now…
Cata’s on the phone, half her heart is dead, the other half belongs to Sebas. It hurts to be away from her daughter. At least she had the chance to say goodbye. She asks the person on the other end, are you sure you want to help us with this plan? We see she’s speaking to Albeiro! He’s in all the way. It’s dangerous but he’s willing to die for Cata. This time we won’t lose.
With a plan straight out of LRDS, we have Cata in a yellow helicopter with Titi and Jota and Vane driving an SUV. The focus is on a security caravan taking Valeria to vote. Al is in the car with Valeria. She’s happy he’s with her. It’s an honor for him. He wants to be there to cheer for her. He continues, remember when you said you couldn’t live without me? Well I can’t live without you either. They kiss.
The helicopter is buzzing over the caravan, Jota and Vane are following behind. Ready, Titi? Ready! Cata radios others. Vane and Jota, ready! Hey, there’s Nat and Ivan, looking well and ready to go! Amparo’s kids are waiting, spot the helicopter and spring into action in their SUV.
Valeria notices the helicopter. What’s happening? Countdown. Fire, Natalia! Nat fires a big gun in front of the lead car of the caravan. Boom! The helicopter lands. Everyone gets out. A shoot out. Our group takes care of all the bodyguards and head for Val’s car. Al drags Val out and delivers her to Cata. What did you think, bitch? Cata slugs Val. Al says, did you think you could fool me the rest of my life? They stuff Val into the helicopter and take off. Al leaves with Vane and Jota.
We are in some filthy, crumbling, abandoned building. It looks like an old prison with lots of open cells. Diabla is chained with her arms in the air. Cata and Titi walk towards her. Cata says, back from the dead, girlfriend? Snarky Val, you’re going to kill me? I’m the next president. Oh, Val, you’re not leaving this place.
dondi356
El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
At that, people who have been wronged by Diabla slowly appear like ghosts from all the cell doors. Cata says, you’re going to hell and I’m going to kill you with my bare hands. Diabla is trying not to show fear. Ok, Diabla says how much do all of you want so we can leave this here? Camera pans faces: Ivan, Nat, Al, Vane, Jota, Rogelio, CataM, Hilda, Amparo’s kids (One woman I don’t recognize). Leti and Luis are there in the wings with the hooded woman.
Cata’s ready to blow Diabla’s head off. Hilda says no! Don’t dirty your hands! One bullet is not enough for all Diabla’s done. Diabla says, listen to mom, Cata. Who would believe a bunch of deadbeat fugitives? Cata says Hilda is right, besides she’s not a murder like Diabla. Diabla will never measure up to Cata and will have to live with that the rest of her life. Oh and Diabla will have to live with her own reflection, too.
Leti and Luis lead out the hooded woman. We see she has a mask on her face. Cara a cara, the hooded woman says, I’m here to get my face back, you damned Diabla! Wow. Karla’s alive!
Snarky Val says, is that all? Cata darling, how long have you known me? You know I never lose. Meanwhile, a dark figure releases a smoke bomb from an upper level. Soldiers move in and shoot on our group below. Everyone scatters for cover. Leon is there, he frees Diabla and gives her a gun. Big shootout. Our guys pick off the baddies one by one.
Diabla appears behind Cata. Just as she’s about to shoot, Titi pushes Cata out of the way and takes a bullet to the head! (No, not my Titi!) The others grab Diabla.
Titi, you can’t die! Not you, please! (Did I say that or did Cata?) Titi says, remember how I said I’d die for you? To prove how much I love you? I take you in my heart. I kept my word, princess. Titi fades out. Cata is holding him, sobbing, not you, Titi, no… close up on El Titi.
We get a lame ending of panels spelling out the outcomes for only some of our characters.
Yesica Beltran aka Diabla: captured and turned into the DEA by Cata and team. Extradited to the US, she plead guility to trafficking, murder and impersonation.
Albeiro Marin: found his way back to Marcela. They are raising Albeirito together.
Hilda Santana: is developing her talents and is a shining star of international fashion. Hilda and Sal are together and travelling the world.
Jota, Vane and Nanita: went back to the barrio. They are helping young girls at risk and finally have the happiness they longed for.
Natalia: got a promotion and will be the new head of the DEA in Colombia. She’s with Ivan, who is now off the streets.
Aurelio Jaramillo aka El Titi: was admitted to the hospital in a coma. His diagnosis is reserved and doctors give him little hope of recovery.
Catalina Santana: was exonerated of all charges and was promoted. She spends her days with Catica and running the Without Breasts There is Paradise Foundation. Cata’s friends and family assure that she visits Titi in the hospital every day, in hopes that he will wake up.
FIN.
I’ll comment later. It’s been a wild ride, my friends. Thank you. Much for us to talk about.
dondi356
Dondi, your 5 part recap is stellar! You noticed a ton of details that I missed or misunderstood. Some scenes were stunning in their quiet revelation (Hilda refraining from insulting Valeria and Albiero finding Marcela's document stash in the teddy bear) or stunning in their overdue confrontation (the attack on Valeria's convoy and masked Karla demanding her face back). But I got really angry when the speeding closing credit character updates snubbed long-suffering Santi, Cata M, Hernan and wayward Sebas without any "stay tuned" breadcrumbs of hope for a sequel. On the show's Facebook page, angry fans want to see the missing 40 episodes that would have explained plot jumps and dumped characters.

Thanks very much, novelera, for this excellent recap. I think you've captured everything important. I'm especially grateful to you for your identifying some of the women by name and function. E.g, Firial. I'm still having trouble recognizing who is who.
I found myself with several questions after watching the episode. In the opening scene, where Hurrem tells Suleiman that she wants to convert, her smile kept making me uneasy. I really couldn't decide whether it was genuine. It somehow didn't seem so to me. Perhaps that's just the way the actress smiles--I'm not yet sure.
I too noted the fact that Ibrahim was not included in the meeting Suleiman had with the viziers but was instead listening outside. I think I'm still not sure what to make of Ibrahim. I like him, but....
When Mahidevran tells the QM that Hurrem vowed to kick her, Mustafa, and the QM out of the palace, I assumed Mahidevran was lying, but I wasn't 100% sure. It did sound like something Hurrem could have said, though normally she's savvy enough not to do so.
Like you, I wondered why Hurrem didn't put up a fight when Mahidevran started beating her. In such a difficult moment, could Hurrem still think about strategy, and what might happen to her if she beat up Suleiman's wife?
And then there's Nasuh. I know he's making drawings of the boats, but I'm not sure why, and what function these drawings serve for Suleiman. Indeed, I don't really understand Nasuh's role in the novela. Is he somehow drawing things that will eventually prove important--perhaps as witness testimony?
Finally, there was Hurrem's "solution" at the end. Are we to understand what that solution is, or is that part of what we'll find out tonight?
excellent recap dondi! you do this so well!
what more can we say?
is that abeirito's real hair?
yes, strange scene, everyone running off leaving CataM "holding the bag".
and who was that long haired girl with the victims of Diabla?
Val's commandos didn't shoot anyone nor free her.
and what about Santi?
new series? Shadow de los cielos.
I was worried Yadith might shoot catica to make them both suffer, I started wondering if the writers hated us.
a couple of Titi music videos

thanks so much novelera, I really enjoy your recaps!
for a slave to harm a Sultana, she would probably be put to death.
yes, it does seem like some formal meetings Ibrahim is not invited.
I don't think the Sultana Madre's husband pick for Hatice will be Ibrahim, she mentioned a pasha, more likely the arranged marriage will be beneficial to her as well.
I don't think Ibrahim is buying Hurrem's sudden conversion to Islam, and I seem to remember that it was one of Sümbül's conditions, as it will benefit her rise in the hierarchy, so to speak.
I think there was some talk of Nasuh working on a design of a boat to haul the army across rivers.
El Final del Paraíso - Gran Final
We were robbed, cheated and lied to. deb, perhaps the writers wanted to give us a good ending but it’s Telemundo that hates us. I don't understand. The ratings weren’t good enough for them?
Too many loose ends. There’s still story to tell. MCM, I am hoping they will try to salvage those 40 episodes to give us the closure we deserve. I can’t blame the actors if they want to hide. It’s not their fault.
Halimacandy, don’t hold back. Tell it like it is. LOL Catamedia holding the bag. Big bag of BS.
Up in the air, literally: Alex, Sebas, Shadow, Yadith—what’s next for them? Revenge? Betrayals?
Up in the air, figuratively: Reina, Moncho. Couldn’t stand Moncho at first but I felt very sorry for him at the end.
MIA: Santi, Hernan Dario, Valentina (didn’t she escape Martin?), Margarita.
Did Sandy get her HEA with Gabriel?
No word about Liseth?
Jo’s not dead yet--watch out Hilda!
Did Karla get a new face or better yet, her old one back?
Wake up, Titi! Will I get to see you and Cata raise Catica together?
Next year in Pereira?
Thanks again, to everyone who recapped and/or commented.

Juanita - thanks for the kind remarks. I did make a point of putting in the names of the harem women, actually pausing the recording and reading them in Spanish subtitles. Like you I was very confused by so many women connected with the harem. Some of them are in supervisory roles and, in the case of Ayse, a favorite who may have lost her standing to Hurrem.
I am also not sure about Hurrem’s desire to be a Muslim. I remember someone, maybe Firial, telling her that the way to solidify her position was to convert.
I’m 99% sure Hurrem made no such threats to boot Suleiman’s child, his mother, and a woman who’s been the sultana out of the palace.
I hadn’t thought that Hurrem may have been afraid to fight back because of Mahidevran’s position.
And, I had the impression that when Hurrem said she had the solution and that it was to not go to him when he requested her, she meant for him to come to her.
Thinking about Nasuh's plan, I remember it being something about getting the horses to the battle site since they're going by boat.
Thanks very much, novelera, for your replies to my questions. I too remember Hurrem's being told that a way to solidify her position was to convert, and that certainly fueled my suspicions. But I also simply felt unconvinced by Hurrem's smile. I think even if no one had said anything about the advantages of converting, I'd have still wondered about her sincerity in part because of the smile.
Yes, I too wondered whether Hurrem may have been reluctant to fight back against Mahidevran because of her position.
I thought everyone was worried about Suleiman's seeing Hurrem in her beaten-up state. I'm not sure how Hurrem's "solution" deals with that.
As for Nasuh, I'm just puzzled by Suleiman's bringing him along. AFAIK, all Suleiman knows about Nasuh is that he draws pictures of everything he sees, and he plays a pretty good game of matrak.
DONDI:
i am too stun and shock to speak.[YEA?!]....I have to mull A WHILE on your recaps and comments for a COUPLE OF minutes... i have to reread your AWESOME RECAP and digest this ....
MCM.. let me check this out.. what you said helped...me feel vindicated!!
Deb:
...yes... some Bs... but why??...th show has ratings.. why..crap on us the fans..??!! thr dirty bastards/producers
Sorry i dont get it...can anybody tell me why Hurrem is the hero[ine] of this story.. she is arrogant, miserable, egoistical, selfish, ugly, and ambitious to a fault..
in the soap ..Sultana, Kosseem proved herself, she fought for others ,to protect the weak, or the rank & file : to be treated fairly, she had compassion and other interest other than her own desires.Hureem nothing but - power hungry ambitions.. she is deadly...
Suliman and his court...the war is on... Team :Ibraheem, ALL-THE- WAY!!... i dont trust any of the Agas/Pasha/ministers...
Ms. Hureem will have to convert ,if her child stands to rule over as 'Caliph' of the 'faithful/believers' ...if she wants to be Sultana [ Umma sultan/mother of the king] , in an Islamic state she will be obligated to lead [women]in Salat/prayers...especially during Ramadaan and other Eids [ Malud/Mohammed's b-day/ Hajj-month etc..]ceremonies and community activities ..all of which are performed in the mosque/ Masjid...
... the girl isn't stupid...
but , saying the.... .'Shahada' / proclaimation of faith..is more than just reciting the 'Tawheed'..but , for television it will do.. ..she would have had to make her declaration in front of the clergy , from the women's section and in front of witnesses.[not just husband].... plus get signed documents, dated /witness ... for making Hajj..[for state cermonies /only Muslims can enter Mecca]...
..got to give her credit ,she has her eye-on-the-prize, her son will have to make diplomatic visits..i am sure she wants to be in the loop..
.........after her declarations of faith.... she would also have had to finish up with salat prayers [ sunnah]...Hurreem is looking toward the future, she knows where she is and she has a plan to rule, but she cannot be Sultana as a kaffir...
... and Suliman is a devoted Muslim... and a student of Sufism..so when he makes pilgrimages, she WANTS TO BE -RIGHT-ALONG-SIDE ,her man/habibi!..!! Hurreem is thinking chick!!
Dondi, Deb and Halimacandy, like you all and thousands, maybe millions, of outraged Telemundo fans, I'm heartbroken and pissed about this crappy ending, and am hoping it was an angry jab by the writers and editors to force Telemundo to air the remaining episodes.
A few years ago, I googled Gustavo Bolivar's sequel novel to get a sense of the plot of Cata G's miraculous second chance and was disturbed to read in an English blurb that she seemed to return to the narco life with Titi. That impression was wrong since she was actually on bungled DEA missions. I also read that there were either two parts to the sequel or that Bolivar was writing a separate third sequel.
Today I read that fans were complaining about him not writing this latest season. That probably didn't cause the crappy ending. It seemed obvious that the writers were carefully weaving their (or Bolivar's planned or revised recast face transplant) subplots when word came down from Telemundo exec offices to cram four years into four weeks. Since filming had been going on for months, and some actors already left for new projects, this monkey wrench decree resulted in choppy editing, awkward time leaps, and new characters having no context while old characters got inexplicably dumped. And no central characters got the loving closures or comeuppances they deserved.
For all of her faults, Cata G probably got the biggest shaft (AGAIN!) because you had to read the flashing end blurbs to learn that although Titi didn't quite die, she ended up with no man other than Titi's comatose body. Albiero dumped her for sweet Marcela (a better choice than Diabla!) and the writers forgot to have her search for the man who saved her from bullets and fathered her two demon kids! The writers also don't have her searching for Sebas. Maybe the mean execs limited the writers to just a few characters and a few lines each? Angry Facebook fans wrote that they had trouble reading those updates. I noticed blurry blue tiny text paragraphs of Spanish, but relied on short English captions. Maybe those unreadable paragraphs had a lot more info?

Since Hurrem has refused to come to Suleiman, he comes to see her. "How dare you disobey me?" he asks. She asks him not to look at her, which of course prompts him to do so. He's quite shocked. "Who did this? Just give me a name." She hesitantly says "Ma...Mahi..." He completes the name: "Mahidevran?" He summons Daye, tells her to take Hurrem to his bedroom and call the doctor.
We see Mahidevran very worried, and of course she's got good reason to be. Suleiman storms into her room and berates her. "You, my wife, the mother of my son. How dare you? You hurt her, and thus you hurt me. I will never look at you again. It's over! You are nothing to me!" He then strides out. Mahidevran is devastated.
Suleiman then goes to see his mother (QM). She's surprised to see him. What's wrong? Is it the campaign, she asks. No, he tells her, the problem is Mahidevran. He tells his mother that Mustafa will stay with him, while Mahidevran will live elsewhere, in the old palace in Beyazit. The QM is not pleased. "She is your wife and the mother of your son. No one has ever done this before. It goes against our traditions and justice." Suleiman replies, "If I wanted justice, I'd have her executed in public. I've made up my mind. She won't spend one more minute in the palace." Suleiman then returns to his bedroom. Hurrem is lying on the bed. "Are you in pain?" he asks her. "Not since I saw you," she replies. He tells her, "I'll protect you even from the summer breeze." [Gee, thanks.]
Suleiman then tells Ibrahim, "I've never seen Hurrem so scared." Ibrahim replies that love makes people lose their tempers and do foolish things. Suleiman says, "For both our sakes, I never want to see her again. Can love make someone act like an animal? I don't need that kind of love."
We next see the miraculous working of Telenovela Medicine: Hurrem appears as good as new, with no bruises, no scars. Hurrem announces, "The Sultán cured me." [Perhaps the Democrats should adopt "Telenovela Medicine for All" as their major campaign promise.]
Mahidevran complains to the QM that Suleiman is caring for Hurrem. The QM advises her, "Take care of your son, pray, and be patient." Mahidevran responds, "If she doesn't die, she'll ruin us all."
Sumbul brings a chest full of gifts from Suleiman for Hurrem. She opens it briefly in the presence of the other harem women, then closes it and orders that it be brought to her bedroom. In what is clearly a snub to the other women, she asks Maria to come with her to look at the gifts.
The scene shifts to Suleiman and Ibrahim planning for the upcoming war. Ibrahim tells Suleiman that everything is almost ready. The factory has finished the two-part cannon. Suleiman tells Ibrahim of his plan to set up two tents, one at Uskadar in the east, the other at Davud Pasa Park, in the west. He's aware that there are spies everywhere wanting to know when the battle will start and what the target will be. But setting up the two tents will confuse them.
At the Buda Castle in Hungary, a messenger interrupts King Luis' entertaiing a woman to report that the Venetian ambassador in Constantinople has reported that the Ottomans have declared war. King Luis at first dismisses this news by saying "The Ottomans talk but never act." However, he adds, "If Suleiman does attack us, he will regret it. This castle will be his tomb."
Hurrem explains to Maria what one has to do to convert to Islam. They then look through the chest of gifts. Maria pulls out an elegant fabric (I'm not sure whether it's just the fabric or has been made into something to wear.) She offers it to Maria. Maria is reluctant to take it, but Hurrem insists. "You're my only friend here." She then offers her an even more elegant fabric (or perhaps it's a robe or a coat?). Hurrem then tells Maria, "This palace will be mine one day. The concubines will kneel to me and follow my orders. And you will be in charge of them." Oops. Daye is outside the room and overhears what Hurrem says.
Suleiman has gone to inspect the two-part cannon. Nasuh tells him, "Thisis the most powerful cannon in the world." Suleiman rewards Nasuh with money, and Nasuh gratefully bows and kisses the hem of Suleiman's robe.
Hurrem and Maria are walking happily toward Suleiman's room. Ibrahim stops them. Hurrem tells him that Suleiman has sent for her. Ibrahim replies that Suleiman is busy now and they'll summon her later. Suddenly, we hear Suleiman's voice asking "Is that Hurrem?" Hurrem doesn't stick her tongue out at Ibrahim, but she does say "I told you, the Sultán has summoned me." Suleiman then appears, takes Hurrem by the hand, and tells her to come with him. Ibrahim does not look pleased.
The QM comes to see Halice and asks her what's wrong. Halice replies that she's fine. The QM tells her, "Many young women lose thei husbands. But life goes on. There's no reason for you to spend the rest of your life alone." Halice diplomatically ends the conversation by saying that she promised Musfafa a bedtime story. The QM tells her to think about what she (the QM) has said.
Daye comes to the QM, who sees that something is troubling Daye. Daye explains that the problem is that Hurrem has recovered, and she's now back to being her arrogant self. "She says this will be her palace and that all will serve her." The QM observes, "If you treat your slaves well, they'll rebel against you." She then promises Daye that after Suleiman's campaign is over, she (the QM) will expel Hurrem. And not even Suleiman will be able to get her back.
Suleiman explains to Hurrem how his army will attack. "But Death will be your companion," Hurrem says. "Many will die. Many families will be destroyed." Suleiman replies, "We won't win thinking like that. War is the law of death. It wasn't me who invented war. Men go to war to survive and to prove their strength. That's why I have to bring my banner further than my father did." [No comment.]
The scene shifts to Mahidevran's quarters (apparently she's still living in the palace). She hears Mustafa saying his prayers. He apologizes to Allah for not wanting a baby brother. He promises that if his mother gives him a brother, he will love and protect him. He wants his father to love him always and he wants his mother not to cry any more.
Ibrahim is a bit annoyed that Suleiman is still with Hurrem. Hurrem, meanwhile, doesn't want Suleiman to leave. He tells her that Ibrahim is waiting for him. She says "Ibrahim sees more of you than I do." Suleiman asks whether she's jealous of Ibrahim. She admits that she is. "You spend more time with him than with me." "Well, get used to it," he replies, and off he goes.
Someone named Señor Tomaso greets one of the merchants in the Ottoman market. The merchant tells him it is said that the Ottomans have set up two tents but Suleiman is still in his palace. Tomaso asks, "In that case, where are the troops going? This is very confusing." The merchant says he doesn't know, no one is saying very much.
Hurrem encounters Ibrahim. "Is there a problem?" he asks. "Yes, I have a problem," she replies. She says nothing more, and eventually he says, "I assume it's me." She tells him, "I think you spend too much time with the Sultán." He's taken aback (as am I). He replies, "I am his slave, his brother, his friend, and his right-hand man. And I'm in charge of this pavilion. Don't forget your own level or your class." He then turns and leaves. After he's gone, Hurrem states softly, "You'll see what I'm capable of, Ibrahim."
Suleiman returns to his room to find Hurrem still up. "Not yet in bed?" he asks. "I've been waiting for you," she replies. She starts to cry. "You'll leave and I'll die." He tells her "You can't die while I'm alive. I forbid you." Then, seemingly to himself, he says, "If only you knew how much I love you."
Ibrahim is playing the violin and Hatice is listening with pleasure. Someone then comes up to Ibrahim and says, "Hatice sends this handkerchief. She wants you to take it with you." He puts it to his lips. Hatice sees him do this.
Apparently Suleiman is getting ready to leave for the war. He greets his mother, who tells him she'll pray for victory. "If I don't return," he tells her, "Mustafa will succeed me." He bids goodbye to Mustafa and leaves, saying nothing to Mahidevran.
I'm not sure what this is all about, but Hurrem wants Sumbul to teach her what she needs to know while Suleiman is away. She offers him money, and he agrees. We then see him teaching her something, but I have no idea what.
We then see Suleiman and his army. There's some discussion of strategy. Should they attack Sabac or Belgrade? Suleiman asks Ibrahim what he thinks. Ibrahim supports Ahmed Pasha's plan to attack Sabac. This is perhaps surprising, since I think Ahmed Pasha and he didn't get along. Anyway, Suleiman then goes along with Ibrahim's recommendation. They'll attack Sabac.
Hurrem tells Sumbul that she wants to write a love letter and send it to Suleiman, but her handwriting isn't good. She asks Sumbul (whose name she mispronounces) to write it for her. He tells her he is not her servant. She should have Nigar do it.
QM meets with Kasim Pasha, the older man Suleiman has placed in charge while Suleiman is away at war. QM tells Kasim Pasha, "There's a concubine I am tutoring and training, a beautiful concubine named Hurrem who has converted to Islam. I have a suggestion regarding her that I think will interest you." With that, the episode ends. I'm not sure what the QM is up to, but my guess is that she may try to get rid of Hurrem by getting Kasim Pasha to marry her.
Dondi356: You're missing out on the fun.
1.) Joaquin brings flowers to the hospital & gives them to Jaime & Berenice.
2.) Lupita Jones (1991 Miss Universe) is upping the ante even further against Castillo & Navarro.
3.) I doubt El Chema will be in prison very long. He does have connections with law enforcement.
4.) Athinia & El Rojo might make a possible couple down the road if neither of them don't get whacked before the Series Finale.
5.) Interested to see if the Casillas family will ever get off the lazy couch & stop El Capo, Volpi & Ojeda.
6.) Corina & Colon strategizing.
thanks so much Juanita for the recap!
I love all the details you throw in as it allows me to look these places and things up!
I'm wondering if another reason Hurrem didn't fight back was so she could play the victim, Suleiman is conquering the world while she is being a clingy palace concubine, all be it she is totally alone except for Maria.
yes, Suleiman banished Mahidevran to the old palace but the Sultana Madre allowed her to stay and the Sultan seems to be turning a blind eye.
curious, Suleiman threw the first bag of coins ?? into the cannon.
we saw Hatice sewing the design into the handkerchief when the Sultana Madre came to talk about her future, Ibrahim will keep it close to his heart as he goes to battle.
Thanks so much, Juanita. Terrific, detailed recap! I was not expecting a rivalry between Hurrem and Ibrahim. I think she's making a mistake trying to separate those two men, and I was happy to see that Suleiman didn't let her get away with it.
IIRC Suleiman got his idea about setting up two camps from Mustafa, who put those purple stones or whatever they are in two places.
Yes, the QM is definitely not on Team Hurrem. She's being illogical really. The QM should have seen by now that Mahidevran is not a paragon of virtue and acts impulsively. Hurrem is clever and a better candidate to be Sultana.
I was under the impression that the "lessons" Sumbul was giving Hurrem may have been a combination of how to behave as a Muslim and how to have courtly manners; i.e. how to behave as a queen.
Thanks VERY much, deb and novelera, for your very helpful and informative comments. deb, I too was puzzled by Suleiman's putting the first bag of coins into the cannon. In fact, I wasn't sure what he put there until I saw him give the other bag of coins to Nasuh. Was the cannon supposed to fire off a round in gratitude? :-) And yes, once I saw the handkerchief being given to Ibrahim, I realized that that was apparently what Hatice had been sewing.
novelera, I too think Hurrem is making a big mistake trying to separate Suleiman and Ibrahim. In fact, I was continually uneasy with her arrogance (to quote Daye) in last night's episode. She's understandably snotty to the other women in the harem, but I think even that may be a mistake. Even more so is her treatment of Sumbul, whose name she mispronounces more than once and who she turns to for tasks like writing a letter, tasks beneath someone in his position. And then, of course, there's Ibrahim. It's true, as you say, that the QM should have seen by now that Mahidevran's personality and actions are highly problematic, but I think the same can be said about Hurrem. I think she's pushing too hard too fast and is making lots of enemies along the way. I guess we'll see.
I agree with every one,
this show is interesting..... Hureem, she is no Sultana Kossem..will she be any good for the nation??
QM.. watch big momma, she has the real power...
family...excuse me this TURKISH SOAP was debut in 2014??!! …
……...they preempted SIN SENOS FINAL PARADISO for a soap for 5 years ago??
really??!! was soap on UNIVISION??
I WILL STILL WATCH... and wont spoil it for you...
I am TEAM queen momma/SULTANA..!!!
Halimacandy:
Wasn't Sin Senos in the 9:00 time period? If that was the case, then Decisiones replaced it, rather than El Sultán.
Halimacandy, here is an excellent trashing of El Final's finale. The author says the last minute cancellation ruined the season finale cliffhanger that was intended to lead into the missing new episodes.
https://dailysoapdish.com/2019/12/el-final-del-paraiso-spoilers-trash-ending-leaves-much-to-be-desired/
We should demand Telemundo air the missing 40 episodes, even if just on its website.

EL SULTÁN – Miércoles
Here's a short recap.
Hurrem dictates a letter to Firial, to be sent to Suleiman.
Hurrem gets played by the Sultana Madre. She’s invited to meet with the QM in the garden where the son of the Vizier Kashem Pasha gets a look at her. The duplicitous Sumbul helps bring this young man to see her. Then she’s invited to dinner. Mahidevran looks smug, causing Hurrem to feel uneasy.
Ibrahim burns his letter to Hatice when Suleiman comes in.
Hurrem is taken away from the dinner by Daye who tells her she’s going to some palace and will marry this guy.
There’s lots of strategizing between Suleiman and his generals. Someone else want to describe this?
Suleiman is told the castle where he’s planning an attack is celebrating a wedding. They’ll be drunk and easy to conquer.
Hurrem tells the QM that she can’t leave to marry this guy. She’s pregnant. Later she tells Maria she lied. She also tells her she loves Suleiman
QM orders Hurrem to be grabbed up in the night and examined by the female doctor.
Hurrem threatens to cut her throat when they come for her.
Fat Luis is celebrating at the wedding when flaming arrows start coming across the castle walls. Still don’t really know where this is. Then they fire off the big cannon and it blows out a wall. The groom is later killed in a tunnel, but Suleiman spares the bride. Luis gets through the tunnel and escapes on horseback.
When the doctor examines Hurrem, she says she’s pregnant! Mahidevran faints when she hears the news. We see Hurrem thank Allah.
Thanks very much, novelera, for this recap that, while short, manages to cover all the important happenings. True, you mention that you're omitting some of the war strategizing, but so far that hasn't seemed very interesting or important to me.
Yes, Hurrem really did get played by the QM. We see Hurrem think that if the QM isn't angry with her and Suleiman is crazy about her, then perhaps something very good is about to happen. Nope. As you say, the smirk on Mahidevran's face tells Hurrem that all is not well.
One thing that I think really scared Hurrem was the story the QM and Daye told her about the Greek slave who claimed she was pregnant but was lying. I think they said that they cut her stomach open and then threw her into the river (or something equally horrific).
I'm not sure what to make of the doctor's saying that Hurrem is pregnant. I suppose the doctor is telling the truth, but if she were able to tell by examining Hurrem, I would have thought that Hurrem would already have had some indication that she might be pregnant. Oh well, the ways of Telenovela Medicine are at times mysterious.
Dondi356: They better NOT kill off Diana because I'm going to be pissed off if that happens.
Let's see if Castillo, Colon, Corina, Navarro & Co., do something not incompetent.
One thing that bothers me about the QM's machinations is how she thought she could get away with shipping Hurrem off to some castle to marry a random guy she doesn't even know. Didn't she notice his fury at M's beating her up? What did she think would happen when Suleiman came back and saw that the woman he was infatuated with had been married off?
I thought it was interesting how Hurrem pleaded her Muslim faith to try to prevent the QM from sending her to a man she didn't know.
Also, after all these years I'm still being confused by novia. That's what Hurrem was told she'd be to this guy (who's at least attractive, by the way). Did that mean she'd be sent there to be married immediately? Or was she to be a girlfriend for a while until the wedding. This word can mean bride or intended in Spanish.
