Things were poppin' tonight!
ISELA
Alfonso explains to his freaked out mother that nothing bad was going on because he wasn't with Sofía. She thinks he is telling himself that to make himself feel better. Alfonso leaves the house to try to diffuse the situation and leaves Rita to watch over his overwrought mother. Rita confesses to Isela that she is Rita and apologizes to her. Isela won't accept any apology and describes in painful detail what Rita's lying did to her emotionally. She tells her to leave. Alfonso wants his father Juan to tell Isela the truth about who "Sofía" is. In their conversation Juan tells him the "truth" about Sofía. She is dead. Alfonso asks how he knows??? Juan answers that he just does. Isela ends up hospitalized with a nervous breakdown and a suicide attempt.
ALFONSO
Camila blames Alfonso and Rita for pushing her mother over the edge. She says everything was fine until Alfonso decided to come back home. It doesn't matter what he or Rita say. Alfonso decides to leave. We see him sitting on a sea wall with a backpack. Rita is trying to call him but he is not answering. He joins a group of drug addicts farther on down the sea wall and finds a baggie full of pills. As he is distracted by the pills, a couple of addicts steal his backpack with his phone. Alfonso goes to a public restroom and starts taking the pills.
CRIS
Cris has a bad experience with his Alzheimer's where he suddenly doesn't know where he is or what is going on. María finds him and when he doesn't recognize her, she calls the doctor. The doctor comes but there isn't much he can do. Cris is inconsolable when he realizes what happened to him.
MARIA
María starts to put the cart before the horse and contracts women in the town before she meets with the investor. Due to Cris' condition, she never is able to get the business plan from him and ends up at a prospective investor with only an orange cake on her hand. He makes it clear that there is no investment plan without a business plan. He suggests she get an advisor for her business. María tells Cris what happened. She has enrolled in a marketing class and is going to start looking for a partner. Cris tells her to never give up no matter how long it takes. She shows a renewed interest in having Juan help her out.
THE WEDDING
Felipe and Beatriz (in a lovely wedding gown) are married at the prison. María and Juan are their witnesses.
THE PSA
Camila makes a PSA about the dangers of HPV for the social networks. She only wants to help ONE person but gets only ignorant comments by the usual internet trolls. Iñaki is there for her no matter what.
TERE'S THREAT
Tere pays a visit to Luisa and Santiago happens to be there. She apologizes again to Luisa and Luisa refuses to accept it again. Santiago threatens to to ruin Tere out of his need for revenge. She calls him later and tells him that if he makes her lose her medical license, she will not longer have to honor their doctor/patient confidentiality agreement and she will makes sure that everyone knows everything about him. He is not pleased.
PATERNAL ASSISTANCE ???
Juan advises Marcelo to not invest in DeLuxe. Things are not going very well. He has another company in mind that he promises will be very successful. Marcelo trusts his father to invest all of his shares.
NATALIA
The judge decides that María will have temporary custody of Natalia as he investigates the accusations of both of her parents against each other. Her parents will be able to visit her at María's at designated times.Marcelo ends up moving back to his mother's house to protect them from Zaid. In the meantime, Luisa tells Marcelo that she can't take what is happening to Natalia even if Zaid is responsible for turning her against them. She thinks it is best that they break up. Marcelo says he will still be there for her and Natalia.
THE MURDER ATTEMPT
Marcelo is sitting in the living room at María's dozing off in an arm chair when Zaid sneaks in through the kitchen where he gets a knife and tries to cut his throat. Marcelo is able to stop him and the two fight. Felipe comes in to the rescue and throws Zaid out. Natalia witnesses it all. Marcelo is left with a cut on his neck. The all wish they could file a complaint against Zaid with the police but they are worried if they do, the judge will put Natalia in the group home. María manages to repair the damaged relationship between Luisa and Natalia but has no luck with doing the same with Marcelo since he was fighting with Zaid. Marcelo tells Luisa they need to take Natalia for psychological help.
THE FRAUD
Felipe tells Luisa and Marcelo that they tracked Zayad to France and then to Tunisia. Who ever planned this is well-planned. There is no way to get the money back. Luisa tells Marcelo says the hotel chain has been mortgaged for three months. She is going to have to sell some of her shares to cover the payment. Felipe says that Zayad must have had an accomplice. How else was that particular construction company brought to their attention? They wonder if it could have been Juan at Zaid's direction. Marcelo says he wants to push DeLuxe into bankruptcy and ruin his project. Luisa says they need evidence to get the money back. Ana tells Luisa that Santiago told her that Zaid wants to take control of the company. Luisa blames herself because it was her job to investigate Paladium and verify its existence and she didn't do it. Ana says that Zaid wants to corner them all so they have no other recourse than to sell their shares to him. Luisa says she is going to be the one to save the company and she knows what she is going to do. Alfonso gives the USB drives to Felipe. He doesn't care about Zaid; he only wants to see his father in jail.Luisa goes through Zaid's files and finds out that Ben ZAYAD is involved. Luisa confronts her uncle telling him that Paladium appeared on the scene with an offer that they could not refuse. It was as if they had access to all of the offers that the other construction companies were making. She tells him he might as well admit that he was the one to give the info to Paladium per Zaid's orders. He says she is putting him in a predicament. She also knows that he was aware of all of the illicit activities that Zadi was running in the casino and that is why Beatriz is in jail. She knows that Zaid must be black mailing him somehow. She wants him to admit that Zaid, Ben Zayad and Ellías Zayad are the ones who swindled DeLuxe Hotels. Juan insists he didn't do anything. It is the inheritance her other left them. He adds that Zaid is a dangerous man. He is done talking but Luisa isn't. She needs him to get Elías Fayad to sign a confession where he admits that Zaid conned them all. He says he will do it. He is so sorry. She doesn't want to hear that. She would rather that he tell her what they are going to do to save the company. She is ready to listen. The next day, Marcelo and Luisa talk to Zaid. Marcelo tells him to return the money that he stole from the company along with Ben and Elías. Zaid plays stupid. Luisa says his lap dog Ben's name is Fayad. She asks him to tell them more about Ben's relative who was the straw man heading up Paladium. Zaid starts to blame Ben for everything. Marcelo tells him to stop right there because Ben works for him. Zaid insists he is innocent. Neither Luisa or Marcelo believe him. Zaid says Ben betrayed him. He doesn't know where he is but he will look for him. Zaid meets with Ben and convinces him to leave town. Luisa tells Marcelo that she sent somebody to Tunisia to find out about Elías and his bank accounts to help determine who i was the person behind the con. They are both concerned about the amount of time that could take.
ROBERTA' S ONE CHANCE
Enzo is giving Roberta one last chance to come clean about who was supplying the drugs to be sold at the casino. When she refuses to talk, eh asks who she is afraid of. She says the person in charge has hurt a lot of people, even in jail. With no guarantees or protection on his part, she would rather spend a couple of years in jail. He informs her that they are dealing with a minimum of 30 years in jail not a couple of years. He offers her a deal. She will be a protected witness which means she will not be prosecuted in exchange for her testimony about everything illegal that was going on at the casino and who ordered it.
SURPRISE
Luisa is not feeling well and it turns out that she is pregnant. She is a high risk pregnancy due to having placenta previa. She tells Marcelo about the pregnancy and tells him that the baby is not his but Zaid's because he raped her.
FIN
Yay!!! The last double episode!!!!
Steve, It looks like the gran final is going to be on Thursday 9/25.
I was actually congratulating Maria in my head for coming up with a production plan for her cake baking business. I was like, ok, maybe you can make this work. Too bad she didn't get a business plan earlier from Chris. I still think there is little profit margin in that work but if the novela wants to claim there is, ah well.
I cannot believe Marcelo trusts Juan with any investment advice. Honestly he and Luisa deserve to lose it all. Point A. Marcelo inherited 10% of Leonora's stock in the hotel business, right? So I would think there is no actual money to invest as the are also claiming the business is bankrupt and you have to sell stock in order to invest the money. I'm so confused! Point B. Is Luisa not telling Marcelo about his father's involvement in all the behind the scenes illegal actions at the hotel/casino. His own half sister is in jail because of Juan. I'm pretty sure Felipe has told him his suspicions about Juan or are he and Luisa so wrapped up in their romantic fairytale they are oblivious. Point C. Luisa is totally correct she is to blame for not investigating the Palladium company. She is the corporate lawyer and president of the hotel. Get with the program.
Poor Alfonso. I hope he vomited those pills out. They didn't show him passed out. Still no Helena sighting.
I guess Natalia didn't see Zaid put the knife to Marcelo's throat, oy them fighting and she didn't grasp that Zaid tried to kill Marcelo. That child should have been in therapy ever since Marcelo was discovered to be her father, but not with unethical Theresa....
You know, I really almost liked Helena the most of all the characters. Luisa and Marcelo just annoy me. I also wished the Dr had discovered Chris had some sort of hormone or vitamin deficiency or an operable tumor and he was cured of his Alzheimer's by it not actually being Alzheimer's. (There was an episode of The Good Doctor that had a happy outcome because of a tumor. If the guy turned his head a certain direction he forgot who people were..... BTW I really enjoyed that series if anyone wants a non TN recommendation.).
Poor Camila. She just wanted to reach at least 1 person to help them make a wiser choice.
Thanks for your continued recapping of this series Jarifa. I'm happy it is only 1 episode at a time going forward. Since I am also watching Conde I have to stay up till nearly midnight to catch both. When we were in Florida for our anniversary we were in the central time zone. I forgot how much I liked living in that zone for tv/local news watching. Fortunately a lot of markets show a 10 o'clock news now.
Jarifa, thank you for your exceptional recap of a dark and disturbing episode. There was so much nefarious action, it was hard for me to absorb it all but you crystalized the events perfectly, not a small feat for this two hour shockfest!!
Honestly, the fraud was way above my understanding but your translation was superior in every way.
Although she is quite loathsome, "Isela ends up hospitalized with a nervous breakdown and a suicide attempt" was hard to watch. Truly stomach churning.
Zaid's ending can't come quickly enough for me.
Alfonso was pitiful yet pathetic. I fear he did ingest the drugs but am hoping for a miracle.
Felipe and Beatriz gave us a few shards of light in the darkness.
"Marcelo trusts his father to invest all of his shares". Why Marcelo, why??
For Cris, there will be no happy ending...Tere is cray cray.
I have to believe Marcelo is the father of Luisa's baby...Please writers...

Diana
Good morning!
Jarifa, I tried three times to post my comment to no avail. If you have a moment, can you kindly repost it for me? Thank you....
As always an exceptional recap.
Diana
Jarifa, thank you so much. I went to bed early, but I saw the first part . yikes !
So minion Ben is Ben Zayad . ..confusingly close to the name Zaid.
Was the conversation between Luisa and Zaid ( who is spinning completely put of control ) after he tried to kill Marcelo with a knife at Maria's house ? And still they don't report him to the police because they don't want Nat in a group home , where she might safer at this point. So Zaid has raped Luisa ,tried to have Marcelo killed, tried to kill Marcelo, killed Lenor and Alejandro...and now Luisa is going to figure out his dirty business dealings. Okay.
Couldn't the bebe be either Marcelo's or Zaids? Susan
Kat, you are wecome. Btw, I am just as confused about Marcelo and his inherited shares. I would think he would have to sell them first, but to who? They never mention that. I totally agree that it was Luisa’s fault for not checking out Paladium a new company suddenly on the scene. Not smart. Yes, too bad that Cris is doomed to have Alzheimer’s. I like his gentle character. Even if I were not recapping, I would find two episodes of anything one episode too many. That is a lot for a network to ask if its viewers. Thanks for the tv series recommendation but Freddie Highmore will always be the young Norman Bates from Bates Motel for me. Loved him in that.
Diana, thank you. Your comments have been posted. I do it so infrequently it takes me a while. I had just as much of a problem understanding the fraud as you. That is why I pretty much translated those sections. Anna Ciocchetti is playing Isela. I do not think I have seen her before but she is doing an excellent job as Isela. The performance was “stomach churning” indeed. My question is: will Juan cheat his own son? Still cannot believe that Marcelo is trusting him. “Tere is cray cray.” Yes, but I loved how her threat got under Santiago’s skin. I am hoping Santiago ends up in the big house with more than a 30 year sentence.
Thanks Jarifa, you painted a much clearer picture of this mess of an episode than I could picture. And I’m so glad you won’t have any more double episodes!
I know someone told Marcelo not to trust Juan. Why does he go to him again? And is he going to invest in Juan’s new business!
I don’t think Roberta has much chance of surviving. The crooked cop that is in Zaid’s pocket seemed to be the guy in charge. So unless the other police suspect him and hide this from him he will tell Zaid.
At this point I would say Natalia needs to go to a group home and Marcelo needs to report Zaid for attempted murder. I know Natalia was manipulated but she has to know what she told the police was why her mother was handcuffed and taken away. She saw it! Get Zaid locked up and then worry about Natalia.
I hope Alfonso is ok. And that Helena will soon appear. Juan looked like he felt he was destroying his daughter’s life as he watched her get married. But he’s too selfish to come forward. Guess if he got 30 years in prison he wouldn’t be able to drink.
Not sure why Luisa is so sure the baby is Zaid’s. She slept with Marcelo around that time. That guy doesn’t need anyone with his genes in this world.
Liz
Thanks Jarifa. I wrote a comment that seems to have disappeared. I’ll try to comment again later
Liz
Susan, you are welcome. "So minion Ben is Ben Zayad . ..confusingly close to the name Zaid." Do you think that the writers did this on purpose just to confuse us??? It is funny. Maybe the writers get a good laugh out of doing things like that.
"Couldn't the bebe be either Marcelo's or Zaids?" One would think so. One good thing about Luisa telling Marcelo about the pregnancy was that he found out that Zaid had raped her.
Liz, you are welcome. Your comments have been restored. There was so much info stuffed into these two episodes. "I don’t think Roberta has much chance of surviving. The crooked cop that is in Zaid’s pocket seemed to be the guy in charge. So unless the other police suspect him and hide this from him he will tell Zaid." I hadn't thought about that. Not good. I so agree with "Get Zaid locked up and then worry about Natalia."
Oh, no! Now we have to wait until tomorrow for the next installment in this tale.
Regarding Luisa's pregnancy, I think we had the same question when Helena was expecting. She had slept with both around the same time also. The bigger question is why she would suspect Zaid was the dad as apparently they experienced infertility together in the 6 year marriage. Or did the writers forget that fact from early on. I guess Luisa could have been taking fertility drugs (though she conceived Nati with no trouble). But as an experienced mother (6 pregnancies with 3 ending in miscarriage) early in a pregnancy and ultrasound can pinpoint gestational age pretty accurately so if there was more than a week between the rape and the Colombian trip ....But she didn't have an ultrasound, or did she? If it was just blood work that doesn't tell the age. Ok, thinking some more with my beanie, she had to have had an ultrasound to discover the placenta previa (I also had that condition with my daughter's pregnancy) in which case I imagine she was looking at the ultrasound machine when they ran the tests on her....I wish the writers had a Dr on call to come up with reasonable stories!
Kat, I can understand your frustration with the novela diagnosis when you obviously know so much more about the topic from the real world. Thanks for your input.
Liz, Helena looked like she was swimming with a destination in mind.
Jarifa, thank you for restoring my comment.
I'm so enjoying everyone's comments!
Tere did get the better of Santiago Jarifa, you are spot on! I'm for anything that brings him down. 30 years seems like a light sentence but I'll take it. :)
Being so heartbroken (and sickened) about the rape, Luisa thinking Zaid is the father might be a natural reaction. I don't think the writers will go there but I know nothing.
I can't remember at what point it happened, but there was a very quick scene where Juan put his hands over his eye and seemed riddled with pain/regret. Does anyone else recall seeing that and remember what it was he was reacting to?
Yes Susan, Zayad/Zaid, is too too much! :)
Diana
-Marcelo tells Luisa he will support her no matter what she decides in reference to her pregnancy. He will love the baby because she is the baby's mother and she is the woman he loves. They get frisky on the beach and in the surf as the waves roll in.
-Before Juan leaves Beatriz's reception at the jail, he tells her that he has to go because her mother wants to see him. He explains that she is at a psychiatric hospital. She blames him for having paid Rita to pretend she was Sofía. He blames Alfonso because Isela caught them in bed together. Beatriz asks him what will it take for him to take responsibility for something.
-Luisa tells Ana that the baby is Zaid's. They agree it is best that Zaid does not find out because if he does, it will tie her to Zaid forever.
-Marcelo talks to Natalia about her being afraid of him. He explains that he was angry with Zaid. She gets it. She would defend herself, too. They make up.
-We see Alfonso unconscious on the floor of the en's room. He has overdosed.
The maid at Isela's gets the call from the hospital and tells Rita. She calls Juan who says it was bound to happen sooner or later. Juan remembers seeing Alfonso as a child chasing the car in the rear view mirror as he was driving away. If Alfonso dies, it will remove a great weight from his shoulders. Rita goes to the hospital as Alfonso's sister and is told that he is in a coma. The doctor doesn't know when or if he will wake up.
-Roberta asks Zaid what she should do with the drugs that are left over.Does he want them or should she give them to his dealer? He warns her she better not double cross him, or she will be dead. He tells her to give them to Ben and tells her to get out.
-Isela is having a rough time. Juan goes to see her and tells her that for having had such a bad breakdown, she doesn't look so bad. She asks him why he paid Rita to pose as Sofía and concludes that he must have done it for himself because he was afraid that the divorce would leave him with nothing. She tells him to leave.
-Beatriz and Felipe perk up when she and Felipe discuss the possibility of conjugal visits.
-Juan tells Luisa, Santiago and Ana that he got an offer from a gringo who is interested in buying an 80% interest in the company. The hotel chain would live on as well as the eco-resort construction. Luisa is willing to sell shares as is Ana. Santiago blames Ana and will not sell any of his shares. He is sure that they are going to lose it all going with the foreign investor. Santiago thinks that Zaid is their only choice. It turns out that Zaid is willing to make a deal for a 51% interest in the company. Santiago and Zaid talk Ana into siding with them at the shareholders meeting. Luisa is not happy but says the majority rules. She isn't going to make decision until they have to pay off the mortgage loan. Ana tells Luisa that maybe in the meantime, another option will turn up.
TWO MONTHS LATER
-Camila starts getting positive results for her PSA but also starts losing her hair due to the chemo treatments. She doesn't want Iñaki to see her and tells him to leave.
-The doctor at the prison hospital has noticed that Beatriz helped a patient awaken from a coma and is impressed by her talent as a medical assistant. She knows her brother is still in a coma so she wants to see if she can get Beatriz into a work release program at the hospital where her brother is.
-Juan visits María. He wants to invest in her business. She is too busy getting Cris moved in. She plans to take care of him until the end. She leaves and he finds a folder on the floor. He looks at it and takes it with him.
-Luisa is meeting with the lawyer. Marcelo is there with her. She is ready to sign over all of her shares to Zaid. Zaid cannot keep the smirk off his face.
FIN
Jarifa, thank you for not only your superb recap but for posting it so quickly.
"They get frisky on the beach and in the surf as the waves roll in" was exactly right as they were literally IN the surf! :) Sweet but soggy.
The doctor who told Rita Alfonso was in a coma was cold as ice. He gave new meaning to having no bedside manner.
"Juan goes to see her and tells her that for having had such a bad breakdown, she doesn't look so bad". A fool and a tool. Then he ruins Beatriz' wedding (such as it was) by telling her about Isela; he couldn't wait one more day? Finally, "Juan remembers seeing Alfonso as a child chasing the car in the rear view mirror as he was driving away. If Alfonso dies, it will remove a great weight from his shoulders". Why on earth does he hate his son so? Juan continues to confound; and disgust.
I'm liking Marcelo more each day. Steadfast and true to Luisa...Surely she is going to do a paternity test. Right??
And last and most loathsome. "Zaid cannot keep the smirk off his face". I wanted to reach through the screen and throttle him. His end can't come fast and hard enough for me...
Diana
I was sure Roberta had a wire on her when she spoke with Zaid. I guess I was wrong. How did she get off, I thought she had to turn state's evidence or something.
And Luisa and Marcelo still trust Juan. I can't believe it.
I'm thinking the folder Juan found was the DNA results on Helena. I keep hoping that they are setting Zaid up. Time will tell.
If you are looking for lighter novelas . . . I watched the first episode of the second season of “Pedro el escamoso” and in spite of never having seen the first season, I was not lost. They did a great job of making this a good first episode for anyone. Plot: Pedro returns to Bogotá after a 20 year absence. Everyone has forgotten about him even his own son. It was funny and heartwarming and established Pedro as a truly unique but likable character.
Diana, yes! it was “sweet but soggy”. I couldn’t believe the canoodling on the beach thinking abut the sand in all that water ending up who knows where. I am liking Marcelo more and more, too, as the writers seem to be better developing his character at this late date. There HAS to be a paternity test.
It just makes sense.
Kat, I don’t think that Roberta has gotten off. She very well could have been wearing a wire or involved in some other activity for the prosecutor’s office.
How anyone could ever trust Juan is way beyond me.
Can’t wait for tonight!
Jarifa, thank you for a full report on all the expanding evil. I haven't had a chance to watch this episode . I wasn't going to watch The Golden Bachelorette....but I surfed into that show and stayed . I am looking forward to seeing the From Here to Eternity surf scene .
Diana, regarding That constant smirk on Zaid's face , it is maddening. Someone needs to smack it off. Susan
Thanks Jarifa, great recap. And so glad they’re back to one hour episodes.
Count me as one that can’t stand Zaid’s smirk. I’d like to wipe it off his face. So he’s buying all these shares and no one wonders why the hotel is broke but somehow he has money. They don’t even seem to suspect. Juan knows, I’m sure. Not sure why Luisa and Marcelo seem to trust him. I don’t think he really cares about any of his children. Beatrice wanted to be a doctor at the beginning of the show and he wanted accounting. And now he’s letting her rot in jail. He actually could lose all his children, with one in a coma and when having cancer. I’m anxious to find out what really happened to Sophia.
Liz
I watched this too. I’m fresh off a Colombian TN (Amar y Vivir) where the male lead was played by Carlos Torres, who plays Pedro’s son here. I came to like the actor very much — quite a different role as there he was running a criminal organization (long story how the galán got caught up as a mob boss!).
This one was not too stereotypical or slapsticky, had some nuance and heart and may appeal to anyone looking for lighter fare.
But as Jarifa noted earlier, with only 23 episodes this will fly by.
Clara
Liz, I still do not understand how Beatriz would agree to sacrifice herself for Juan. She wanted to be a doctor and now gets to be a medical assistant. Great! (said sarcastically) What happened to Sofía cannot come to light soon enough. It could be a double or triple or more legal whammy for Juan! 1. It looks like he was responsible for Sofía's disappearance by doing something illegal. 2. All of Zaid's schemes and Alejandro's murder that he has most likely been party to. Who will wipe the smirk off of Zaid's face? That is the question.
Thanks, Clara, for the information. I have never seen a Colombian novela before so I am not acquainted with the actors at all. I will probably be bingeing this one on the weekends.
Hi Jarifa, a Mexican friend recommended I try Colombian ones! Lo and behold, I found Caracol network and picked up Amar y Vivir. I really, really liked it. The organized crime stuff was counteracted by great music; the female protagonist was a singer.
The language was different and vibrant. The setting was a market and I liked how the characters interacted.
Now I want to go to Colombia. You probably don’t need any more shows! but I recommend Amar y Vivir.
Caracol just started showing Bolivar, a period drama about Simon Bolivar. Haven’t seen much of it, but looks like a good production.
I think Kat in SC has some knowledge here thanks to her Colombian relatives.
Clara
Telemundo has an entire subset of Colombian TNs. My first was la hija del mariachi. Loved it. Then I saw Yo Soy Betty la Fea. I started that one and then came back to it. I'm not usually a fan of that type of humor but it grew on me. Pura Sangre was my next and I started La Tormenta but will go back to it. I discovered Caray Caray about that time and so I got sucked into these that have recaps. It has helped. I don't have to stop and look up sentences of dialogue like I did a year ago.
Clara, i have Canela (the app,) but not Caracol. I'll have to look it up and see if I can watch your recommendation. I have other titles my daughter in laws sister in law recommended. My DIL never watched them.
Clara, I always appreciate recommendations. I never know when I will be looking for something to watch.
I found Caracol hiding in my cable channels, and I have definitely been sucked in. I will look for Canela, Kat.
Thanks for the opportunity to talk about Amar y Vivir! As you can probably tell, I am suffering withdrawal. Keep playing the music in my head.
Happy to be able to see Carlos Torres in Pedro el E. He looks different, but his voice is the same, and I love his voice. He may be having a moment outside Colombia, since I think he is also in Sed de Venganza, upcoming on Telemundo.
Happy viewing, Clara
