Looking forward to seeing the recap of last night's episode.

jefa

NYC did not show an episode last night. There was a special about Pope Francis.

jefa

No show in the DC area either last night. Dondi and Novelera, I'm glad you caught a break from recapping. This TN will win no prizes, but I did miss the diversion and language learning.

jefa

Good to hear there was no show. I am quite the sports fan. I was recording a San Francisco Giants baseball game and, inadvertently, the Clippers/Nuggets basketball game. When there was no Jefa on my list of recordings, I assumed I'd used up my two DVR settings and was preparing to watch on the Telemundo site today. Glad I looked at Caray first. Usually whatever NYC gets, the San Francisco Bay Area gets the same preempts. Whew!

#43 – Part 1 of 3

Ramona gets a look at all the money meant for Estrada. She excuses herself, hands over the back door key, and says she didn’t see anything. That was the key we saw before when she invited Yadi to move in. She’d somehow got it before Maribel was picked up. Ramona also turns over the thumb drive that showed illegal surgeries. Gloria agrees that she’s good with accounting and invites her to join them.

Jacinto wants to know who Erna is speaking with. Mati, on the other end of the phone line, insists Erna not tell him. She also wants to meet with Erna and Luisa, just the two of them. Jacinto mocks Erna when she says she is speaking with a friend. He gets close to her and says that the only quality of hers he appreciates is that she’s invisible. [How long will we have to wait for a 500-pound anvil to fall on this guy?]

We get another bitter griping session from Duque about Gloria having his brother killed. [I’m starting to be very bored with Duque and his angst.] He’s with Debora, the big boss’s assistant.

We are subjected to Laura babbling about how wonderfully she’s being treated by Bolillo. Suddenly she and Yadi look at something with wonder. It’s a new neon sign for the business (the front), and it says Susana’s Fashion. Gloria’s named it after their deceased co-worker.

Gael has a computer problem. Then he gets a text from Martín with images of Yadi in her hot videos.

Outside Susana’s, Ramona tells Yadi and Laura that Gloria wants to speak with them about something important.

We see Fercho taking pictures on his cell phone of Miguel when the kid himself grabs the phone. Fercho tells him he wanted to send a photo to Laura, so she’d know Miguel was alive. Fercho says he’s a friend of Laura and reminds him they met once. Miguel warms up a bit. Miguel tells Fercho about the picture of Arturo and his mother that he saw. Fercho tells him it’s true that Art is his father, but that he never recognized Miguel as his child. Sadly, Miguel gets nervous and walks away before Fercho can tell him his mother is not in detention in Mexico.

Erna and Luisa are together. Luisa snarls, as usual, that all she wants is to know where Gloria is. Mati tells them over the phone that Gloria is not doing well because Dani died. They’re both shocked. [Excellent move, Gloria. There’s a slim chance Erna could be trusted, but Luisa never.]

Duque is on the phone with Bolillo who tells him about Gloria opening a salon. Debora doubts this. Why would she want to do that when she’s working for Estrada?

Gloria explains her money laundering work for Estrada to the three former beauticians. She emphasizes that she’s not handling drugs. Torres looks menacing (not hard for this actor) and says the work is dangerous…possibly leading to either prison or death. Gloria says they can choose to be either in or out, and they could make a lot of money, but they must know the danger. Ed tells them that, if they join, they can’t tell anyone or there could be violence.

#43 – Part 2 of 3

Duque is all rapturous about some music [Jazz? Hard to tell from what I could hear.] It’s part of his usual schtick of thinking he’s better than run of the mill narcos. Then he’s all over Debora, who’s more than enthusiastic.

We see Ed and the four women stuffing the money they crossed the border with into some department store mannequins. Gloria says they need to keep their families at a distance.

Gael asks someone in his company for the address of “Pascual” (Martín), who came to see him there once.

It seems Dani and Amanda are attending school. They come home and open their backpacks. They talk about the ones they’ve lost (Amanda, her mother and little brother and Dani, his father). They decide to go to a high place in their L.A. mansion to make it easier to speak to them in heaven. They are saved by Gloria’s bodyguard (forgot his name, if I ever knew it).

Ed tells Laura she needs to forget about Bolillo, and she gets snippy, sticking up for Bolillo. [Ay, Laura, so good looking and so dumb.] She goes on to say that Nino didn’t do a thing to help her find Miguel. Gloria jumps in. She tells Laura that, if she can’t do what they ask, it’s better if she gets out of the business. Laura clearly doesn’t want that. She apologizes and swears she’ll never say a word to Bolillo.

Both Dani and Amanda refuse to speak with Gloria or Ed when they call. Mati tries to make excuses, but Gloria realizes that the children are resentful.

Luisa arrives just as Debora is leaving. He doesn’t pretend he wasn’t getting busy. He tells Luisa that she can’t scratch that woman’s face because she’s the big boss’s right hand. Luisa has come to accuse Duque of killing Dani.

Ed and Glo plan a “test” to see if Ramona can be trusted.

Martín comes down a flight of stairs and Gael launches himself at him. He hit him in the legs with a metal rod. Gael tells Martín that he’s not going to be seeing Yadira anymore, but what Martín did is 1,000 times worse, for exposing her like that. He calls him ¡basura!

Gloria and Ed have brought the mannequins to Estrada, and his guys are taking out and sorting the millions of dollars. Estrada gives her a gift. It looks like a gold-plated gun. He tells her it represents power and that it has been lucky for him. “A gun represents power, will give a person money, and finally the power to hacer lo que venga en gana (do whatever you like).” He calls her una fregona (strong woman, one who doesn’t ever back down). He also says the gun is her graduation gift.

Duque tells Luisa he didn’t kill Dani but enjoys Gloria suffering. Luisa says that the boy is also José Luis’s child. Duque tells her she’s loved that man her whole life, and he never even looked at her. She denies it. He calls her retorcida y tan oscura (twisted and very dark). Duque then goes for another round with a Luisa. [Do we think he showered?]

Someone leaves a box with something bloody for Ramona. There’s a note from the Tláhuac cartel saying that they cut the tongues out of people who betray them. Welcome.

TWO YEARS LATER

Laura comes out of Susana’s Fashion and kisses Bolillo. He’s brought her, I think, a churro. She moans about Miguel. [What the hell, Gloria? The fregona hasn’t managed to get Miguel away from Arturo yet?] Bolillo wants to come into the place and look around, but he gets nowhere. We see Nino lurking and watching them.

It looks like Ramona passed the body part test. We see she and Yadi are packaging money.

It’s Dani’s birthday, and Gloria has sent 7 or 8 big boxes. He’s angry and doesn’t want to speak with her. He tells Mati he wants her to be like other boys’ mothers, a normal mother.

Some campesinos come to see Gloria. They aren’t having much luck with the tomatoes. They want to grow marijuana. Gloria insists she has nothing to do with drugs. But they say that all their neighbors are growing it. She gives in and tells the guy who brought them to take them to Bacalau and that they’re to be treated well.

Luisa is speaking at some event inaugurating a hospital for disabled persons. Some guy speaks up about the budget for the following year and is paid no attention to.

Gloria is practicing shooting at some glass bottles. Ed tells her she’s protecting Dani by staying away. Ed wants them to get married. Gloria flashes back to losing her baby in that wedding dress. She tells him she loves him, but has bad memories of weddings. She says she needs to first fix things with her son. She wants to do a big, big money deal, a very dangerous one. But it will be worth it because it will be the last. Ed: “We’ll leave Estrada?” Gloria: “Yes, we need to get our children and to have a real family. We need to retire from this once and for all.” [Anyone think this plan is going to work? Not me.]

"JEFA"
Novelera: Strongly agree with you on Gloria's so-called retirement plans blowing up in her face.

PS: Whatever happened to the Dirty Cop formerly known as Torres' partner in the Police Department ?

Martin is just SICK!

Jefa

Novelera, thank you for a great recap with all the details . I haven't had a chance to watch this episode .

Duque and his obsession with Gloria and bedding women is amazing . This actor is chewing up the scenery in each and every episode .

I've had it with Torres and this actor's sleepy performances..yawn.

Go, Daniel, go. Has hapless Yadi finally met a good guy???

I have no hope for dim Laura. She keeps getting involved with the same type of bad dude. Wake up. Think about yourself and your kid.

I hate Jacinto . I need to see that big, heavy , Road Runner anvil crush him..maybe with his pants down .

This show has been one long study in men using and abusing women. ugh

Gracias, Novelera. Great recap. "It’s part of his [Duque's] usual schtick of thinking he’s better than run of the mill narcos." - Loved the way you sliced through Duque's ego.

Jeepers creepers! That dud Bolillo has pulled the wool over Laura's eyes for two years.

Cheers to Gael. I was hoping that Gael would understand Yadi's self-loathing since he'd been an addict himself.

Will Gloria be able to retire? I dunno. But the kids have suffered so much that I hope they at least have a HEA.

jefa

Thanks, novelera. Fine recap. Agree with your asides, except that Torres looks very sleepy, not very menacing.

Ramona always looks shifty to me.

I can think of a reason for Gloria to buy the salon—to launder money. How come those two brilliant narcos didn’t consider that?

“[I’m starting to be very bored with Duque and his angst.]” "Hello. My name is Duque Medina. You killed my brother. Prepare to die." (Apologies to The Princess Bride.)

Yes, why didn’t Miguel ask about his mother in jail? I don’t know if Fercho knows about Arturo’s lie, but he could have cleared that up.

Glo’s bodyguard is Bocho.

Two years later? Daniel doesn’t look any older. Gloria hasn’t returned Miguel and Nino is still lurking around Laura and Bolillo?

Was that the investigative reporter who was asking questions at Luisa’s event?

“[Anyone think this plan is going to work? Not me.]” Me neither.

jefa

Susan, ITA about women being treated badly in this novela. I guess the message is meant to be: turn bad, get involved with a cartel, and nobody can push you around anymore.

Niecie, yes, I groaned when I saw Laura come out all thrilled to be with Bolillo. I'm losing hope she'll find out he was part and parcel of the plot to convince Miguel to trust Arturo, resulting in her losing her child.

dondi, I agree. I keep waiting for Ramona to pull a fast one. She was SO nasty to the others in Maribel's "salon". Redemption? Maybe.

I rewound a couple of times. But the guy questioning Luisa about funding for the hospital didn't look exactly like the reporter to me. I thought maybe he might have been a hospital administrator who was suspicious of Luisa's largesse.

I also thought there weren't enough changes, physical and otherwise, after a two-year time change.

"JEFA"
Novelera: I only come here just for the comments & on Laura: I've written her off as a lost cause.

Dondi356: Ramona is annoying. I do NOT like her.

Niecie: I do NOT see a happily ever after anytime soon & from what I've heard, Telemundo bringing it back for Season 2 & I still need to know who is the Big Boss giving Duque marching orders ?
