Prediction: Gloria's plan will BACKFIRE!

jefa #44 Highlights and Lowlights

Miguel has adjusted to LA. He’s dealing drugs and not attending school.

It’s been two years, but Ramona keeps telling Yadi to call Gael.

Gloria wants to give up working for Estrada, but she doesn’t want to give up revenge on Duque.

Bacalao betrays Gloria. He tells Castillo when and where she’ll be transporting a huge sum of money all by herself. Castillo informs Duque.

Gloria tells Dani and Mati that she and Ed will move in with them. Dani doesn’t believe her and leaves. Glo tells Mati they are leaving the cartel business.

Laura pressures Bolillo to come with her to LA to find Miguel. So, he asks her to marry him. As if that would take her mind off her son.

Jacinto shares the good news of Gloria’s pending capture with Luisa. Erna overhears this.

Ed worries about Gloria transporting the money. He says he’ll follow behind her.

Stupid Laura is ecstatic. But now more than ever, she wants her son with her when she gets married. Bolillo is just as stupid as Laura. He tells her he needs time to save money. Did I say Laura was stupid? She shows Bolillo a thick stack of US dollars. She tells a stunned Bolillo that she did some side jobs with Gloria and saved up.

Erna calls Mati to warn her. Do not let Gloria come to Tijuana.

Castillo’s operation is a success, he captures Gloria at the border. Jacinto and Luisa show up to share in the success.

Ed calls Estrada with the bad news. Estrada’s going to dispatch his best lawyer, Patiño, to help Glo. Ed’s sure it was a set up because Castillo caught her. Estrada figures Duque was behind it.

Castillo interrogates Gloria. She claims to be working on her own and demands to see a lawyer. He threatens to send her to the worst prison ever.

Ed asks Humberto for help. He can’t do anything. The case against Gloria is solid. Humberto asks Ed if he’s involved in this too.

Patiño asks that Gloria be released on her own recognizance. Jacinto and Luisa are present at this hearing. The judge sentences Gloria to 15 years in prison. I didn’t understand this. Can he do this without a trial?

Gloria is devastated. She wants to make a phone call. She can’t go 15 years without seeing Dani. Patiño reminds her that Dani is “dead”. She doesn’t want Dani to know she’s in prison. Patiño warns her that calls are monitored in prison. The lawyer says he will appeal.

Mati tries calling Gloria. Voicemail.

Reporters flock to Jacinto and Luisa after the hearing. My favorite reporter, Orcajo, asks Luisa, how does it feel to have arrested your own sister?
Jacinto spins a bunch of garbage about eradicating the cartels. Castillo adds a few words. Duque is watching the interview on TV.

Erna sees the news report and calls Mati. Mati gasps as Erna tells her Glo got 15 years. Dani walks in and hears Mati repeat this. He asks, what happened to mom? Is she in jail? Mati tries to minimize it, it’s nothing serious, it will be resolved. Dani replies, if Mom’s in jail, I’m never going to see her again.

Ramona brings the bad news to the ladies at the salon.

Ed confronts Castillo. He wants to know who informed Castillo. They trade some punches.

Ramona worries that Estrada could help Glo or kill her. She remembers the warning she received. Laura worries about her son. Yadi worries if they will go to jail, too.

Ed gets more punches in on Castillo. Castillo pulls out his gun. I could shoot you and claim self-defense, he says, what’s it gonna be… death or prison?

And we are out.

"JEFA"
Dondi356: I KNEW something was off about Gloria's stupid plan blowing up in her face LOL.

Wake me up when the debut of "DINISTIAS CASILLAS" comes on.

jefa #45 part 1

Ed dares Castillo to kill him. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about the character or actor, Castillo puts his gun away. He’d rather see Ed suffer and this will only be the beginning. Ed says he will do all he can to expose Castillo’s connection to narcos.

Gloria enters prison. She tells the guard she wants to make a call to her son. [what?! The son who is supposed to be dead? Is she blowing her own game?] The guard roughs her up a bit and threatens her. She’s in Duque’s pocket.

Jacinto and Luisa gloat over the capture and sentencing of Gloria. Erna enters and blasts them for being heartless. Gloria was sentenced to 15 years! Mom is suffering! Jacinto scolds Erna for eavesdropping. More rehashing of who did what to whom.

This conversation is interrupted by Rocio. She has something muy importante to discuss with Jacinto and Erna. Jacinto dismisses Rocio but she fires back—it’s urgent, it can’t wait.

The salon ladies evaluate their situation. Ramona wants to be prepared so they don’t get caught “con las manos en la masa”. She’s sure they will be raided and orders, go to the warehouse, shred the paperwork, take the invoices, and empty the safe. Yadi asks, where will we hide the money? It’s too much. Laura mentions her bad luck, she’s about to get married.

Rocio stands firm. Luisa is amused by the mouthy maid. Rocio drops the bomba, I’m not just a maid. Jacinto is in love with me. And he’s going to love me more… now that I’m pregnant. Caras de impactadas.

Glo calls Mati. Dani is there. Mati tells her that Dani found out what happened. Glo asks to speak to him. Glo tries to explain but Dani calls her a liar. We’ll never see each other again. Why are you in prison? You did something bad. You separated us forever. He puts the phone down and leaves. Glo runs out of time and must hang up. The guard makes a comment about Glo’s son. [I don’t get why Gloria let anyone know Dani is alive, especially this prison guard.]

Rocio doesn’t get the response she was hoping for. Jacinto replies, I don’t care if you’re pregnant or not! Nothing proves that thing inside you is mine. We’ve been sleeping together every night, she says, I’m not seeing anyone else. I don’t leave the house. The child is yours!

Luisa is enjoying this. She asks Jacinto, what will happen when the press finds out you got your maid pregnant in the house you share with Erna? They won’t say anything, Jacinto replies, because that kid won’t be born. Devastated Rocio answers, you promised we’d get married someday. Erna can’t take any more and leaves the room.

Bolillo is at the club, and a sleazy woman is all over him. He tells her that Laura wants him to go to the US to help find her son. He asked Laura to marry him to get out of that mess. The woman shakes her head and says, it’s a good thing you have me. We see Nino lurking at the bar. [quite the stalker he’s become.]

The salon ladies “clean up”. Yadi asks, what do we do with the money? Ramona says she’ll take care of that. Yadi doesn’t trust her. Ramona could take the money and run. It’s all very tense.

Jacinto offers money to Rocio to get rid of the baby. I don’t want money, she replies, I’m in love with you. [Good grief. How can anyone love this pig?] Luisa has had enough of the domestic squabbles and leaves. Jacinto tells Rocio to shut up and listen. I’ll give you money, get rid of that thing, and then you will leave this house. I never want to see you again. Estamos? She cries. He continues, leave or else you and your child leave for the other world. Rocio begs.

jefa #45 part 2

Gloria gets the obligatory welcome to prison from her new cellmates. Some of them know she was JJ’s wife. One says that JJ killed her husband and ruined her life. Glo gets punched. The leader of the group says there are two ways to pay off that kind of debt, with money or with your body. Glo gets groped. Glo says she’s got money and will pay for protection, and she warns, don’t touch me or I’ll kill you. The leader shakes on the money deal.

Luisa wheels past Erna on her way out. You’ve always been submissive, but this it too much, even for you. Erna doesn’t want to hear it. I mean well, Luisa replies, believe it or not, I care about you. Why do you put up with Jacinto’s abuse? I’m not like you, Erna answers, I don’t have anyone else, I don’t have a job. Who would want me? I can’t have children.

Laura looks around as she walks, like she’s worried about being followed. She meets Fercho. He's returned to see her. She tells him about Gloria’s capture. She swears him to silence.

Motherhood is overrated, Luisa says, I never had children. You made that choice, Erna says, I’m married to a politician, and we can’t have children. [It’s for the best, Jacinto would be a terrible father.] Rocio is more of a woman. Luisa answers, your problem is not physical, it’s mental. You’re an idiot stuck in the past! Take control of your life and stop relying on a man!

Laura tells Fercho she’s been saving money so she can get her son. She adds that she asked Bolillo to come with her. Fercho calls her crazy for trusting Bolillo. Then she says she’s marrying Bolillo. Fercho looks disgusted. She tries to convince him that Bolillo is a good guy.

Fercho makes the point that crossing the border is hard and they should just stick with a small group. Make something up, tell Bolillo something. Laura says because of Gloria’s situation they should leave for the US tomorrow.

Jacinto berates Rocio. He takes out her birth control pills. I told you to take these, but you thought you were clever. She begs to keep her baby. Jacinto says, a while back, I got a woman pregnant and she died. Her husband was an idiot but that’s not the point. This woman was smart, elegant… do you understand? If I didn’t want a child with Sonia, who was a beautiful and educated woman, why would I want to have a child with an idiot like you?

Maybe that’s it, Rocio responds, you already lost a child. Ernestina can’t have children and you’re not getting any younger. This could be your last chance. Wouldn’t you like a child just like you? [You may fill in your own aside here.]

Fercho says tomorrow is too soon. Laura is adamant she needs to get to the US before this thing with Glo blows up and she goes to prison. She says she’ll go by herself. Fercho gives in. I’ll talk to the coyote and see if we can leave tomorrow. Meet me here early in the morning. We’ve got a day and a half to make it to the border.

Gloria talks to her new crew. If you keep me safe, your families will get a little something every payday. Guards appear to do a cell search. Surprise. A knife is found under Glo’s mattress. It’s off to solitary for her.

Duque gets word that Glo’s been sent to solitary just like he ordered. Debora arrives. She asks, did you have anything to do with Gloria’s arrest? The boss found out and he’s looking to kill the culprit.

Ramona and Yadi get into it again about the cash. Laura returns but doesn’t say anything about her plans to leave for the US.

jefa #45 part 3

Jacinto proposes a plan to Erna and Rocio. He thinks a baby would be good for his political career. Rocio will stay in the house and have the baby. The baby will be raised as his and Erna’s. You’ve lost your mind, Erna says, I won’t raise your bastard child. Rocio is not too pleased either. Jacinto appeals to Erna, this could be your last chance to be a mother.

Yadi puts the money in her bag. Ramona makes a call to someone. I’m not sure who it is.

Patiño and Ed arrive at the prison (?) They talk about Glo being put in solitary. Ed wants to get word to Glo that he’s trying to get her out.

Debora reminds Duque that nobody touches Gloria without the boss’ permission. Duque denies having anything to do with the arrest. It was Castillo, who got a tip from an informant. Estrada has a rat in his family—Bacalao. Debora says that Duque needs to protect Gloria. If anything happens to the boss’ precious girl, we’re both dead.

Gloria bangs on the door and yells to be let out. She needs to make a call. She falls to her knees and asks Dani for forgiveness. [She’s only been in there a few hours and she’s already stir crazy?]

Dinnertime and Dani’s not eating. Mati leaves the table to get him more water. Mati’s phone rings and the boy picks it up. It’s Erna and she starts talking without hearing who answered. I can’t take it, she says, would you believe Jacinto go the maid pregnant? Mom? Mom, can you hear me? I’m not your mom, Dani answers. Erna asks, who is this? Dani replies, I’m supposed to be playing dead, but I’m bored of it. It’s Daniel, your nephew. Erna gasps.

Mati returns and asks, who are you talking to? She angrily grabs the phone from Dani, you’re not supposed to use my phone! Daniel blurts, I’m done pretending I’m dead! He leaves the room. Erna is happy that Dani is alive. Don’t say that in your house, Mati warns, I can explain. Erna asks, why didn’t you tell me you faked his death? I couldn’t, Mati replies, because Jacinto seeks to hurt Gloria. We did it to protect Dani. Mati cautions, don’t tell anyone especially Jacinto or Luisa. Erna assures her that she can be trusted.

Yadi stops by her mom’s place. Her mom was just leaving for an appointment, but Yadi says she will stay until she returns. Mom doesn’t trust Yadi and warns her not to steal anything. Is this Yadi’s stupid plan to hide the cash at mom’s house? Do you think Uriel will find it?

Ed shows up unannounced at Estrada’s house. He’s confronted by Bacalao. The boss is sleeping, come back tomorrow. Ed’s not going anywhere. Bacalao put his gun to Ed’s forehead. Ed dares him to shoot [yawn.] The shouts disturb Estrada, who comes downstairs.

Ed asks Estrada if he heard about Gloria’s sentence. They screwed her over. She couldn’t post bail or appeal her sentence. Castillo had it planned. Estrada says Castillo isn’t that smart. Someone smarter is pulling the strings and someone tipped him off. Bacalao squirms in the background. Ed says it was Duque, he wanted to destroy Gloria.

Estrada notes he screwed all of them. Glo lost her freedom, Ed lost his woman, and he lost a partner and $150 million. [I wonder how many times we’ll hear that amount?] Estrada gives some credit to Duque for playing his hand well. Ed asks Estrada to call his contacts and get Gloria transferred to CDMX. Estrada says that’s impossible. Ed’s worried that Glo will get killed if she stays in Tijuana. He begs.

Nino has a recording of Bolillo at the club. Maybe it will help Laura see who she’s dating.

jefa #45 part 4

Drunk Bolillo stumbles into bed next to Laura. He’s ready to get it on, but she pushes him away. They need to talk. She realizes he’s drunk and asks where he’s been. She sees lipstick on his shirt and neck. Are you cheating on me? You have lipstick on you! It’s not what you think, he replies, it was my bachelor party. I want us to get married next week.

Laura asks, is that true or are you trying to save yourself? I’ve never lied to you, he lies, I’m ready to spend every day of the rest of my life with you. [let’s hope that’s a very short time.] He flops on his back, about ready to pass out.
Laura believes his lie. She says, I have something to tell you. I’m flying to Colombia tomorrow. I’m bringing my mom to help with the wedding. He mumbles, whatever you say. And he falls asleep.

Estrada says he wants Glo out of prison. But he hasn’t figured out how to bring her to CDMX. Ed says, then help me get Jacinto and Luisa off Gloria’s back. Estrada replies he may be a puppet master but getting rid of a governor is not like preparing a taco. Do you expect me to attack and get the president on my case? Jacinto is Duque’s puppet, Ed says, I’m not asking you to kill them, just take them down a peg. Drag them through the mud. Bacalao is listening intently.

Dani is in bed recalling JJ’s proposal to Gloria for a church wedding. He cries and whispers, Mom, I miss you.

In the morning, Mati asks Dani if he’s taken his insulin. He doesn’t answer. Come have breakfast, she says. I’m not hungry, he replies. She reminds him, you have to eat, or your glucose could get dangerously low. So what, he responds, I don’t care if I die. I’m never going to see mom again. Mati tells him not to say that. Dani says, it would be nice if Dad were alive. Mom isn’t like Dad. You got it wrong, Mati says, your dad was human, too, and he made mistakes like everyone else. Dani answers, that’s not true. If Dad hadn’t died, everything would be fine.

Mati explains, we kept many things from you to protect you, but I can’t let you keep thinking so poorly of your mom. Your father was a good man, yes, and he loved you more than anything. But he kept money that belonged to criminals. Dani asks if he stole it. I don’t really know, Mati replies, but after his death, those criminals have been after your mother because they think she has the money, but she doesn’t.

Dani recalls a guy who always wore a glove. Exactly, Mati says, because of him and people like him, your mom had to leave Tijuana and start over in CDMX. Do you know why? To keep you safe. Because she loves you with all her heart. Dani hugs granny.

jefa #45 part 5

A guard takes Gloria to meet some very special visitors. She’s pushed into a room and is surprised to see Jacinto and Luisa.

Bacalao gets Duque on the line for Estrada. Ed is present. Estrada tells him to relax. You wanted me to do something, didn’t you? I’d make the world spin backwards for my people.

Duque tells Estrada that the world must be coming to an end if the head of the Tlahuac Cartel is calling him. I’m calling to make a deal, Estrada says, let’s call a truce. As a token of good faith, I’ll give you a portion of my turf in the US. Bacalao is shocked. Debora mutes the phone and thinks that’s not bad. That’s generous of you, Duque replies, but what do you want in return? I need you to pull strings to have Gloria transferred to a prison in CDMX. Get her on my turf. Debora mutes again and says the boss will like that.

Duque responds, Gloria will not be able to go free here or in CDMX. What do you gain from her transfer? I can protect her better if she’s here, Estrada answers. What’s it going to be? Do we have a deal? Debora nods at Duque. Duque tells Estrada he’d like another show of good faith. You remember Torres, don’t you? I want him out of your cartel. I want him without money or protection. In the street with nothing.

And we are out.

"JEFA"
Dondi356: Nice job with the 5 part recap of Friday night's episode. Keep it up.
The plot to take down Torres begins.

jefa

Thanks SO much, dondi, for two recaps! Your quickies are very good indeed. I've been in a sort of sports coma for a couple of days. Both my teams won yesterday: the Warriors and the Giants baseball team. I didn't even watch Jefa until very late Saturday night (actually Sunday morning).

I also recorded and watched some of Francis's funeral. I'm not Catholic, but I have certainly admired the man. I was frustrated because they insisted on a voice over translation of the homily. I studied Italian before I decided Spanish was more useful, so I could have mostly understood it.

I laughed at "depending on how you feel" about Ed's ending up worm food.

I'm kind of over Dani. I know he's a child, but they said two years passed. I'd have thought he would be approaching an age where he could realize that his mother sold her soul to save his life.

I'm fine with Nino stalking if he turns out being able to out Bolillo. But these writers just make us wait and wait and wait for any kind of retribution.

For once I had a good feeling about Luisa as she tried to convince her sister to kick Jacinto to the curb. But I strongly suspect she's going to go for mothering Rocio and Jacinto's spawn. I'd give it 3:1 odds.

It's starting to seem ridiculous that Duque's heretofore unshown big boss would have a thing for Gloria and never even try to arrange a dinner date.

As always, I love to see fear on Duque's face. He DID set up Gloria through his pressure on Castillo and dreads the Big Honcho finding out.

I was also sneering at Gloria banging on the door like that. Isn't she smart enough to know what solitary confinement means. All you'd get is bruised hands and a hoarse voice.

Please, please, let Bolillo meet his fate soon. "I've never lied to you, he lies." That was a good one, dondi.

OT:
Novelera: I also watched Pope Francis' funeral over the weekend, but the nagging commentary on EWTN was ANNOYING. I had to watch the rest on RTVM Malacañang's YouTube channel.

jefa

Dondi, thanks for Thursday and Friday recaps. Like Novelera, I loved "I've never lied to you, he lies." This TN brings bad news after bad news, but you keep the snark and laughs coming.

Can't wait for Laura to see the video of Bolillo at the strip joint.

Dani in danger yet again now that his being alive is no secret? A shame Dani's storyline is rinse and repeat.

Jefa

#45, a brief recap. Estrada is on the phone with Duque. He’s offered him some drug territory in the U.S. if he’ll facilitate Gloria being moved to a prison in CDMX. Duque is willing but he asks for something more, that Estrada remove Torres from the cartel (and his protection, of course).

Jacinto and Luisa come to the prison in Tijuana to offer Gloria freedom after one year if she betrays Estrada. She spits on Jacinto. Later Jacinto and Luisa mention that they wouldn’t have kept their word (not a surprise).

Yadi and Ramona trade insults at the salon. Ramona insults Yadi about her videos, even rubbing it in about Gael.

Nino comes to see Laura. Ramona tells him she’s left for Colombia (the lie everyone gets). Bolillo comes out with a massive hangover and says he doesn’t remember Laura telling him about going to Colombia.

Yadi come to Gael’s NA group, but she isn’t able to convince him to reunite despite her saying she’s two years clean. He says something about being married.

The plump nasty guard brings Gloria some food that makes her sick. She’s told it’s courtesy of the Governor.

Erna is fed up with Rocio wanting to be waited on because of the pregnancy. She calls Jacinto who tells her that’s her role and that the child will be passed off as being hers. Erna calls her mother and, miracle of miracles, no one overhears her phone conversation. Erna swears she won’t reveal where she’s headed.

Duque orders Jacinto to move Gloria to Mexico City. Jacinto is upset. He wanted to keep making her life miserable. Duque: do it or die.

Laura and Fercho are dealing with some coyotes who will get them across the border in the trunk of a car. Fercho now seems interested in Laura. Guess intelligence isn’t a priority for him.

Dani talks with Ed over the phone. He says he wants to return to Mexico so that he can visit his mother in prison.

Luisa mouths off to Jacinto and is pulled out of her wheelchair and thrown to the floor. She’s furious about Gloria being moved to another prison. He tells her she’ll make the call for the transfer, or he’ll tell the press she ended up the way she is trying to kill her own sister.

Duque wants Castillo to get him the $150 million seized from Gloria. Duque of course threatens his life again. But he also shows him a video of Castillo having killed Torres’s old partner (forgot his name).

Gloria has been moved. They really didn’t show this very clearly. Anyway, she’s in that same four- or five-person cell that Maribel was in. Juana introduces herself and talks about karma.

Erna arrives in L.A. Dani runs into her arms. [I’m looking forward to Jacinto discovering her absence.]

Ed comes to see Gloria in prison. She asks him what the arrangement was to get her moved. And that’s where the episode ends, with Ed reluctant to tell her he’s been sacrificed.
