A.MAR #24 Parte 1 Notes from the Couch . . .

Sergio Worms his Way into Estrella's Life
Sergio Tells Estrella he got a message form his daughter and he is there to find out what she wants. Estrella assures him that she doesn't expect anything from him. Not everybody is like him. She makes it clear that nobody is asking him to be a father to Azul. Azul only wanted to know where she came from . Sergio says he does want to handle this the right way and wants to be a part of his daughter's life. He wants to meet her the next day. Estrella ens up agreeing. She tells Erika she is afraid that Azul will get her hopes up and Sergio will end up hurting her since he abandoned them once. Erika says that was so long ago that she needs to give him a chance.

Estrella brings an excited Azul to Erika's restaurant the next day where the meeting with Sergio takes place. Father and daughter look at each other and smile. What they don't know is that Erika has introduced herself before their arrival and told Sergio that she was the one who called him in the first place so he could make contact with Azul.

Teresita tells Erika that she did a bad thing when she contacted Sergio about his daughter on without asking Estrella. Erika answers that she wanted to do it for Azul because she knows what it is to grow up without a father. Teresita calls her on her lie. She knows that Erika wants Sergio to get back with Estrella so she leaves town with him and opens the road back to Fabián. Teresita demands that either Erika tells Estrella about the call to Sergio or she will. Erika agrees but adds that she needs some time first.

Gabriel and Marina
Gabriel looks worried and takes a document out of an envelope kept in a nightstand next to his bed. It looks like a birth certificate where he is listed as Iker's father: Gabriel Neira and Iker's mother is listed as Fabiola Salgado.

Gabriel, Marina and Iker are supposed to go to the city and visit the publisher of the book with the "Paloma" drawing. it looks like he got sick and ended up at home instead because Marina is there to give him some cough medicine. When she goes to get it out of Gabriel's bed stand, she notices that Gabriel never did throw the letter in the bottle in the sea like Iker asked him to do. Iker asks Marina if she thinks that his mother or the spirit of his mother will read the letter that he sent her. She answers that of course he will.

Yazmín Levels with her Father and Spreads Granny's Ashes at Sea
Yazmín is still being rude to her father. She gets all bent out of shape when he serves her some supposed spanich ravioli and they end up having meat in them. Doesn't he knows she is a pescatarian?

Yazmín looks at a photo of her mother and tells her how much she misses her. She calls Sergio who ignores her call because he is busy making out with a fellow med student.

(They cut a lot of this) Yazmín runs into Oliver on the beach. She is carrying her granny's ashes and wants to spread them at sea like they spread her mother's ashes. Oliver takes her out and once they find the right spot, She spreads the ashes. Oliver asks what is bother ing her. She tells him all about Fabián and her problem with him. He tells her that he wishes he knew who his father was since he grew up without knowing.

Yazmín goes home and apologizes to her father Fabián for being like she has been to him after he has offered her so much but the fact of the matter is when he caused her mother's death and left her with her granny for five years, something broke inside of her and it cannot be fixed. So, she is telling him that she doesn't love him but she doesn't hate him either. She feels nothing for him. She is grateful for the room but doesn't want or need anything else from him.
The less they see of each other the better. Fabián looks like his heart has been broken.

A.MAR Parte 2

Brisa: the Woman with a Plan
Brisa doesn't miss a beat when she runs into Gabriel on the beach and asks how Marina is doing. If she needs anything. Gabriel cannot understand why she would be concerned about her.

Brisa puts posters all around the city that have a photo of Marina on them asking if anyone knows this woman. (Got to give he credit for thinking of this non-tech easy peasy way of doing things. Funny nobody else thought of doing it.)

Everything Else
Pascual finally gets on the bus after warning Valentín for the umpteenth time not to mix the white clothing in with the colored.

When Perla hears from Oliver that Pascual has left town because of her, she goes to see how Valentín is doing. He is changing a light bulb but ahving problems. He ends up electrocuting himself and falls to the floor where he suffers in pain.

After seeing Marina and Gabriel kissing at the restaurant, Teresita advises her to watch what she is doing because of Brisa. If you play with fire . . .

Gonzalo comes by Meche's seafood stand and helps her out. She admits that she feels like she has lost direction in her life with the death of Ulises. She asks Gonzalo for advice. He tells her that the time has come for her to take control of her own life.

A.MAR

Could they have played any more commercials than they did tonight? Unbelievable. Anyway . . .

Major questions from me:
Why was Gabriel so concerend looking at what looked like a birth certificate for Iker?

Why was Marina so concerned seeing the letter in the bottle in the nightstand drawer?

Things are starting to percolate.

A.MAR

Jarifa, your sharp and perceptive recap was marvelous. Thank you for explaining much that I missed, both aired and not aired. You always clarify and explain things in such a clear and concise manner.

"(Got to give her credit for thinking of this non-tech easy peasy way of doing things" was perfect! Brisa's determined to find out who Marina is and she is clever and resourceful. If only she would put that effort into finding a meaningful career!

A mystery swirls and gathers heat and intensity, swirling in a storm. We finally have a name, "Fabiola Salgado". Gabriel was very concerned and it appeared worried when he scanned the document. Why indeed Jarifa? My first and immediate (speculative not spoiler) thought was wondering if Iker's mother is not dead but alive! Marina seeing the letter in the bottle did not air in what I saw so appreciate your including this!

Yaz has been through much but the greatest form of cruelty is indifference. Poor Fabian; what will it take for her to come to her senses?

I had to smile in that Teresita eavesdrops just as well as Erika.

Parting was such sweet sorrow for Pascual and Valentin! 😊 I have a feeling they will not be separated for long...

I really like Gonzalo's "courting" of Meche. Showing up unexpectedly in a helpful, breezy manner, dispensing good advice as well as doning an apron and pitching in. He's a keeper!

Jarifa, I also thought there were more commercials than usual which is really annoying considering scenes were cut. Thank you for this gem of a recap...

Juegos # 66 part 1

Memo is shocked to learn about his paternity, though having Enrique for a father is much better than Mateo. Mariana explains how her father wanted her to have an abortion. When she refused he forced her to marry Mateo. I think she was also dating him at the time. Francisco has treated memo horribly all his life and he needs to pay. He gets his gun but Mariana calls Enrique who calms him down. He'll see him later.

Victoria traps Joachin into divulging some truths when she tells him they are reopening the death case of Dr Brown to homicide. She hints that Brita has talked. So he is willing to talk now.

Francisco is back home, Ines brought him. She doesn't stick around though. He calls his guy and sets something up. Turns out it is a hit on Luci. When Enrique shows up at Francisco's they talk about memo and other things. Enrique is cutting him loose, he is no good for his campaign. Francisco tells him he is going to kill who he loves most, Luci.

Meanwhile Luci learns that Adrian has been approved to go to rehab. She shares the news with Pato and Chofi. As she leaves her house and gets ready to get in her car a guy color forms her and stuffs her in his trunk, but Roberto pulls up just in time and saves her. Looks like he may have managed to shoot the guy in the shoulder, though he kept running.

Meanwhile back at Francisco's place, Frank has pulled a gun on Enrique. Enrique manages to wrestle it from him and kills him. Memo shows up. I almost feel sorry for Memo. What a messed up life he has had. At any rate, Enrique says we have to dispose of him....

Adrian gets a visit from Alex. He asks for her forgiveness. He's sorry he didn't do as she told the night of the accident.

Dani talks to the dean. He has been offered a scholarship in Barcelona. He accepts ( this will be good for him I think).

Juegos #66 part 2

Enrique explains to Memo how Francisco was killed. He forced my mother to have an abortion which killed her and made it look like suicide. Memo says like what he tried to do to my mother. Enrique says yes, but your mother is a queen and refused and kept you safe. He tries to kill me but I got the gun from him and killed him. Memo is all happy. I'm just like you. We are the same. Enrique agrees. ( This was actually funny to watch).

Omar and Elena are necking in the kitchen when Dani comes home to give them his good news. Elena asks to you want to go to learn or forget. He says both. They understand. He leaves in two weeks.

Memo is willing to get rid of Francisco, except there is the issue of the ankle bracelet... Enrique is going to disable the security cameras and bring his car around. ( Not sure what they are doing about the tracker. I can almost see memo cutting off his leg.)

Roberto really wants to catch Ferrar. He needs to protect Gaby and Luci. He can't lose either of them like he lost his sister.

Roberto is trying to get in Francisco's house. He wonders if he has fainted. Q tells him to wait and not enter.

Victoria is with Luci telling her all the info she got from Joachin. Francisco ordering Fabiola to have her memory erased at the clinic. How Memo dated her before her disappearance, that she gave Berta the video from the night of the accident, etc..
Enrique arrives glad to see she is ok.

Adrian has agreed to see Ines. She tells him that she always needed to protect him since he was born premature and in the incubator. She devoted her life to him. He says you failed me. This is the last time I'll see you. Enjoy your life of power as first lady.

Roberto is peering in windows. He finds the blood and broken glass in the room of the murder. He calls Q to give the news.

Karsu

Novelera – you sound like you’re having a ton of fun! So glad you could post a comment!

I think there were no books on the shelves because the shop was being “remodeled.” Oh, and I miss the older henchman too. I hope he comes back.

Kat – Oh! A musical evening for the HOA. This we gotta see. I’m wondering how the HOA has so much money that they can afford an office. Or maybe they just have a rec room and the office is in it. And I too loved Irmak’s take-down of the suegra at the department store. What an old biddy.

What had me wondering is why, in a show that has us all exclaiming about the wonderful, complex characters, did Irmak have no discernable personality? She just stared. Her husband loves her, but why? Yes, she’s lovely to behold, but is there anybody home in there? Turns out in this episode that she has backbone. Look at her tell Reha off, saying she’s not like her mother and Karsu, I guess not compliant. And she actually interacted with Deniz with normal smiles and kid-talk. Plus she’s sure determined to hang on there at her mom’s despite being completely frozen by her and Karzu. That takes backbone too.

Reha is just such a loser. So boorish in the bar and then he later thinks Filiz’s rich ex really likes him. Him telling Tilsin that he didn’t cheat, and then asking her to spy for him! Jerk.

What’s Atila going to do now that the step-dad has arrived? It looks like it’s not gonna be good. Also, I’ve been wondering why Attila doesn’t just off Reha. Maybe because he doesn’t want to kill the kids’ father?

A.MAR

Thanks, Diana. Perfect: "A mystery swirls and gathers heat and intensity, swirling in a storm." I wonder, too, if Fabiola is still alive. Why wouldn't Gabriel just thrown Iker's letter in a bottle in the ocean? That should have been no big deal.

Yes, Gonzalo looks like he could be a keeper. He is nice and low key; supporting but not overpowering Meche.

Wasn't Sergio at his smarmy best? Víctor González sure knows how to bring the character's creepiness into this role.

I do admit that I had to laugh at Pascual's repeated laundry instructions for Valentín but as for the rest of the long goodbye, not so much. Looks like Perla is in luck and will have to tend to Valentín. Will those two get together while Pascual is with his mother?

Now we have to wait until Wednesday! Oh, well, a day off.

A.MAR

Jarifa, great point in that Valentin's "electrocution" could be the perfect opportunity for Brisa to nurse him back to health :)

Sergio was indeed "at his smarmy best"!! I'll always remember him as Calixto in El Amor as a stomach churning and frankly, very frightening character. His nefariousness isn't quite as overt here but he certainly is cringeworthy as you noted.

"Why wouldn't Gabriel just thrown Iker's letter in a bottle in the ocean? That should have been no big deal" mirrored my thoughts too. What is he hiding?

Diana

Karsu

Maggie, I was cheering Irmak on also when she lit into Reha. I think she has just been quiet up to that point to not make waves and keep a low profile. She hopes her persistence will pay off and they will let her back in. Karsu demonstrated she could forgive when she moved back home. I'm seeing a resolution for the sisters and especially with Feliz. If that happens there money woes should be lessened. Since Adnan is a multimillionaire I'm thinking that is where Feliz gets her money. I'm sure he is paying alimony.

So the lady that lost the job as the HOA administrator is moving out. Best on who moves in? Will it be Reha ( not if his sister keeps letting him live at her place) Karsu and the kids, or the adoptive dad whose name I've forgotten.

I have a problem with the late notice given, via Feliz, about a school presentation (on a Saturday, no less) by the whole family of Deniz. So Reha wasn't informed and Deniz other dad, whose name I've forgotten and I don't have my cheat sheet of names with me currently) is going instead. Now Reha does have the right to be angry about that

Adnan didn't really look at fault in the accident, and I don't think the cars even collided. Adnan apologizing and saying he usually has a chauffeur was rather funny.

What a thoughtful gift Atilla gave Deniz. He will make good use of the art set.

It's just a matter of time before lake learns Atilla is a neighbor to Karsu since Tilsim is now spying and reporting to dad. Reha won't keep names from his sister as he rants about his ex.

So Reha is walking away from his life in the other city and restarting in Istanbul. How does that make sense. Lake says there is an empty office in her building. From a fabric mill to a highrise seems strange.

A.Mar

Thanks Jarifa, for the great recap and filling us in on everything we might have missed. Mysteries are popping up everywhere. I feel like we have two missing women, Marina and Fabiola. I wonder who they both are. I had decided Iker’s. mom was alive a few episodes ago, when Marina was questioning why he won’t talk about her. And it was strange he didn’t just throw the bottle in the sea.

Brisa will not give up easily. She and Erika really should become friends, they can discuss how to make a man love you when he’s told you he doesn’t!

I can’t see Erika telling Estrella the truth about what she did. She’s actually hiding a lot from Estrella and when all is discovered the friendship will end.

Gonzalo is a sweet man. But it hasn’t been that long since Meche was widowed. But they do make a cute couple.

Liz

Juegos

Thanks Kat, that was excellent. Francisco is something else. I feel like he ordered Luciana killed just to hurt Enrique.

Memo trying to bond with Enrique was almost cringeworthy. I don’t think Enrique has any feelings for Memo. But Memo is a ticking time bomb, he most have inherited most of his personality from his grandfather.

Things are heading towards the conclusion. I like how they’re tying up pieces one by one.

Liz

Karsu

I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying this story. I almost didn’t watch it.

I loved Irmak telling off Reha! But once his mouth gets going he doesn’t shut up.
Then he’s so nasty to Adnan until he discovers who he is. Then he can’t leave him alone. He seems to think they are best buddies now. I can picture Irmak and Adnan talking and rolling eyes about their nasty brother-in-law. And I loved how Felix’s sister had to agree with her niece about Reha.

The woman with the two children that spoke to Atilla was interesting. I’m sure he did help her and wondered if he’s some kind of Robin Hood by day, helping women in distress to make up for his night job!

Liz

Karsu

I’m also concerned about the intersection of Deniz’s father figures: Reha, Ozan, and Atilla!
I agree Reha should have been notified, but I can also understand why he wasn’t!

The interaction with Adnan was funny. I loved the chauffeur comment! Reha became obsequious once he found out who he was. Adnan seems level-headed and kind. It’s hard for me to understand him leaving his wife for her daughter, such an unforgivable sin. I agree he pays alimony.

Atilla’s kindness to that woman with the two kids was notable. I feel like we have seen her before, but I can’t remember.

Last week was very busy, but I really look forward to my stories, especially this one! I agree that it’s really well done! The actors are outstanding! The mixture of good and less-desirable qualities in everyone makes them all more like real life!

Babachita

Karsu

I’m loving the wonderful comments!

Kat – it hadn’t occurred to me that one of our characters would move into the empty unit. That’s a nice complex and I’m sure stepdad couldn’t afford it. But yeah, Reha apparently could. I too don’t understand what Reha’s going to do for work now that his factory has burned down. What does he need an office for? How can he just up stakes and start all over in another city? He’ll have insurance money and they had a nice house that will probably sell for a pretty penny. But then what?

Liz – I had completely forgotten about the lady saying thank you in the street. I wonder what kindness he did her. How funny that he’s picked this suburb to hide in but all these other characters have showed up there, and now that lady!

Babachita – I liked how you put it, “father figures.” Deniz has managed to melt the hearts of everyone and ours too!

A.MAR

Thanks, Liz. Thanks for the humor relating to Bris "She and Erika really should become friends, they can discuss how to make a man love you when he’s told you he doesn’t!" I could see it! ITA that Erika is never going to say anything to Estrella unless she is forced to and it is waaaaay too early for that"últimos capítulos" move. It does seem a bit early for Meche to get romantically involved with Gonzalo. It doesn't seem that much time has gone by at all since the beginning of the novela.

Diana, funny how these actors get pigeon holed. I would dare say that Victor Gonzalez could have made it as a galán. He is a good looking guy but seems to have been relegated to the villain contingent.

Juegos

Kat, another great recap! This story is like riding a montaña rusa (roller coaster)! I feel like it’s hurtling toward the end.

Some of us thought Luci might be another of Enrique’s offspring, but I am stunned to find out we were right! At least I think that was revealed. The show should be called something referring to Kike and the Four Kids. I guess he and Ines lost a baby, too. I think he knew about Luci, but Memo must be a big shock. Now we know why Ines resents Luci, although I think Ines doesn’t know yet. Ernesto was definitely a hound dog, as someone put it!

Watching Memo is scary. I did get an idea of what it must have been like to grow up in a weird household, watching the (seemingly) happy home of his cousins. Still, he is truly a monster. I wonder what awful deeds he will do before he gets an appropriately sized anvil.

Now we know why Enrique loves Luci so much. His eyes always soften with her. Sort of like they did when Elena plays the piano like his mother.

I’m still trying to keep track of the crooked cops!

Maybe Adrian will recover from all of this yet.

Looks like Dani gets a graceful exit to Barcelona. His parents no longer depend on their children to fulfill their lives, so he is free to follow this opportunity.

This has been a great telenovela! There are still many threads to unwind and very little time! More roller coaster!

Babachita

I looked at the episode again and Francisco referred to his adored daughter, but it probably refers to the goddaughter relationship. So, I am probably incorrect on this.

Babachita

Juegos

Babachita, yes Enrique is referring to the padrino relationship. He adopted her when she was only 5-8 years old I think. I never got a true sense of how old she was when her parents died.

This definitely has been a roller coaster ride of a show that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for riding along with me ( along with Liz). Good cast, good story, not too much violence, what's not to like.

OT I have officially finished all 8 sections of Spanish on Duolingo! I can go back and get legendary on the lessons this week as a friend invited me to her family plan. I have been doing some French as that is what I learned in HS and college. I guess I'll be going back to that language and then perhaps learn a different one like Norwegian! I had a Norwegian grandmother and apparently, according to my 93 y.o. aunt, her grandparents spoke Norwegian in the home so I guess my grandmother knew it. She died when I was 21. I wish I knew more family history about them. I wish my 20 year old self had wanted to ask the questions. I actually spent the summer with them before she died (my grandfather had become bedridden and my grandmother got lung cancer at the same time) helping out. I bet they would have enjoyed telling family stories.

OT

Kat, Congratulations on the Duolingo! My husband is working on the Spanish very slowly. I did some Turkish because of the dizis, but have fallen off! Your perseverance is remarkable!

It would have been nice to have those discussions with your Norwegian grandmother. I regret opportunities like that! When we are very young, we don’t think of these things!
If you heard Norwegian, it might help with Germanic languages! I was around lots of Spanish when very young, and that helped me learn it more easily later.

Babachita

karsu

I am very happy to see such an active patio here. I can add that Deniz's "father" is Ozan. That was such a lovely, touching scene when he shows up for Deniz's show and tell, or whatever it is he's doing. Such a heartfelt embrace.

I don't agree that Reha should have been invited. Deniz is clearly frightened of him. I'm not sure Atila was going to attend, only gave him the gift and wished him luck, but I often misinterpret things. Reha will absolutely make a scene and ruin everything.

What a miserable human being Reha is. He's ready to have Adnan arrested until he finds out he's sorta kinda related and filthy rich.

I agree the Irmak actor is kind of bland. But she desperately wants to mend fences with her family. I think she kind of believes that she will conceive a child if she does so. So she's low key trying not to set Karsu off.

I was ready to hate Adnan, but he's a really nice man. And from what we've seen, he really did accidentally fall for his stepdaughter and isn't a creepy pedo. As for his mother....yikes. It was good to see him tell her off with her dislike for her DIL And Irmak is still in love with him, grey hair and all.

Kat, I commented on the prior page about finding out where I'd seen the Irmak actor before. It was in Amor y Traición. She was the wife of the guy who was the lead in Hercai. He'd deserted his wife and two children to marry a wealthy heiress. The heiress in question was the Irmak actress.

If I were Atila, I would be VERY tempted to have Reha bumped off. I can't stand the way he manipulates Tilsim. Of course, she's daddy's little girl and rather disgustingly ready to spy on her own mother.

JUEGOS

Kat, thanks for your very fine recap.

Best parts of episode: Any scene with Enrique having to deal very carefully with his newly found son Memo and being totally repulsed by him. He knows Memo has more than one loose screw. Very entertaining!

Karsu
Novelera, I saw the comment about Irmak actress. The one thing that this blog is missing is a way to react to a comment like on social media. I don't want to big down the feed in too many posts. I check the page so many times a day to see if anyone has commented and read each one thoroughly, I've even been known to read the Jefa recap to see if any other comments are made, and to silently congratulate myself on skipping that one.

I'm also not hating Adnan, though I wanted to. If he can best Reha and hopefully make Karsu and feliz' life easier I'm all for it.

OT, did you see I've completed to all the Duolingo levels for Spanish. I live in a small town but I wish I had the Spanish lessons at the library that you get to enjoy. I do have a Colombian daughter in law (and her family in Atlanta, Raleigh, Illinois, Puerto Rico) and members at my church I can practice Spanish with, but nobody is really nearby. I have to drive 20 plus miles to get to them.

Juegos
Jarifa, yes Enrique treading that fine line with his fake hugs and eye rolls is fun to watch. I wish we had a bit more of Q in the show. He is a great character, and a good guy, which this show has had in short supply.

OT

Kat, congratulations on your progress in Spanish! I'm truly amazed at how you've come so far in such a short time. I may have mentioned this before but couldn't hurt to say it again. While I did take actual grammar classes, I also took the advice of a Spanish speaking co-worker's advice and began watching TN's to improve my "ear". I worked at it! This was in the days of VCR's. I recorded episodes on the tapes. Then I'd re-watch the recording, frequently backing up to be sure I understood. TNs are the best way to practice hearing quick, colloquial Spanish and getting better at comprehension. As I mentioned, I still attend, now on Zoom, an advanced class. But I often come up with a word that I got from a TN, and my teacher, Mexican-American, is delighted.

OT

Kat, I’m really impressed that you finished all the Spanish Duolingo and are ready to move on to another language. I was doing it off and on, maybe a few times a week. Once the Covid lock down came I started doing it every day. I usually do three lessons a day and haven’t missed a day but I have no idea if I’m even close to finishing. But I have thought that when I finish I might do the whole thing again. I would love to be bilingual but don’t think that’s going to happen!

Liz

OT
I was listening to our local radio station this morning, and the DJ said she was doing Duo Lingo , but her husband thought she was talking about Dua Lipa.
Stay cool , all . Susan

OT

Susan, good to see you on the patio!

"JUEGOS"
Kat in SC: NOT shocked Francisco gets whacked: He was dragging everyone down. I do agree with you about Crazy Memo becoming more unhinged & likely to launch one deadly attack.

Jarifa: Keeping fingers crossed Roberto & Luciana are endgame.

Babachita: Nice seeing Daniel moving to Barcelona & getting away from Mexico including all of the craziness.

OT

Susan "I was listening to our local radio station this morning, and the DJ said she was doing Duo Lingo , but her husband thought she was talking about Dua Lipa".

Too funny! Thanks, I needed that.

Diana

OT

Susan, is Dua Lipa a thing or a person? Or just a mispronunciation?

OT

Wow, Kat you finished Doulingo??? I'm so impressed!!! I've been doing Duolingo for years and I have no idea where it ends!! hehe

Have you heard of Italki? I hadn't until a few weeks ago but it's an online learning platform (website) where you can connect with teachers and other students. I haven't looked into it much but I did check it out a little. You can get an online instructor for one on one or group classes at all different levels of learning from beginner to advanced. I found it right before I was leaving for vacation and I haven't had much time since getting back to look into it but I did take one introductory class before I left - I think I paid like $8 for 30 mins and it was just a getting to know you session. But you can go on there and see what kind of teachers they have, what there qualifications are, what levels and classes they teach. I didn't (in the limited time I looked) have much luck finding many people who were teaching on nights and weekends around my work schedule - but that wouldn't be an issue for you I wouldn't imagine. The one session I had was with this wonderful lady in Mexico City IIRC but they had speakers and teachers from around the world, I really enjoyed it. Might be worth looking into.

P.S. Dua Lipa is a person, a singer, I think, possibly an actress? She's a celebrity.

OT

Darcy, thanks for the info. I don't pay for anything if I can get it for free...I'll chat with my Mexican friend, Colombian daughter in law (and our grandchildren) and her family etc. I accidently am getting a free 2 week music subscription to YouTube music because my grandson wanted me to sync with the Bluetooth speaker outside. Now everyone I get in my car the music kicks in through the radio. It apparently is $10.99 per month. I have yet to join any subscriptions service but it does make the half hour drive a bit better as I'm out of radio range part of the drive, and I really hate the chatter the DJs subject us to. Normally I drive in silence.

RE Duolingo, The Spanish course is 8 sections with 36 units per section. Section nine is just review daily which is why I say I'm done. I'm at the same review point in the music lessons, though that had many fewer sections and units.

OT..

Hi, Jarifa . I've missed my patio peeps , the excellent recaps, and the interesting , thought provoking comments . My adventure is not quite finished . There are a few more things that must be done . Susan

OT

Darcy, welcome back!!!

Thank you, Diana!!!

A.MAR #25 Notes from the Couch . . .

Sergio Decides to Play Daddy
Azul is totally taken with her father as he tells her to ask him whatever she wants over a vanilla malt. When she is in the bathroom, Sergio starts to put the moves on Estrella. When she sees right through him and reminds him about the money he gave her to go get an abortion, he tells her his sob story about his dead pregnant fiancee. He grabs and holds her hands. That is why he is here. He wants to be with his daughter. Erika smirks as Fabián comes in and sees Estrella with Sergio. He and Sergio recognize each other from the car accident and start arguing. Azul reappears and is upset when her father chooses to leave. She blames her mother and Fabián.

Later, Azul tells her mother that she should apologize to her father for what happened so he will come back and see her. Estrella says she doesn't apologize for what she didn't do. Estrella tells her mother about it all and doesn't want Azul to suffer. Her mother explains that you cannot stop your children's suffering but you can let them know that you will always be there for them. Estrella doesn't know why Sergio had to reappear after all this time. Things were going so well with Azul.

Sergio finds out where Fabián lives and is waiting for him to tell him that there is no room in the family photo for him. Fabián informs him that he is there for Estrella. She can count on him to protect her. Sergio warns him to stay out of his business. Fabián tells him to go away.

Marina Begins to Discover Who She is in SPITE of Brisa
A giddy Brisa tells Marina "la náufraga" (shipwrecked woman) and Gabriel all about flyers she made and how Marina's novio called her and is on his way. Marina's real name is Raquel. Gabriel is angry and cannot believe that she gave the man his address and did not do anything to assure them that this novio is legit. Brisa cannot see a problem. As Marina waits in another room, the novio arrives. He thinks that "Raquel" has a rose tattoo and is clearly only interested in the monetary reward. Gabriel throws him out. Brisa leaves clearly humiliated.

Iker declares himself well enough to go to the publishing house to see if he, Gabriel and Marina can find out more about her mother. They arrive at what used to be the publishing house. It is old and deserted but not for long. A woman called Liliana appears and recognizes Marina immediately. She calls her Antonia. Marina explains her situation and says she doesn't recognize her.. Liliana tells her that fifteen years ago, they spent the summer together when both of their families were in town for the summer. They never saw each other after that. She knows Marina/Antonia had a sister but she wasn't there that summer. It turns out that Marina's mother helped her mother open the publishing house and did illustrations for some of the books. Unfortunately, Liliana's mother is dead. Any records that might have helped where thrown out long ago. She knows that Marina/Antonia's las name started with an "M". Maybe it was Martínez . . .

Everything Else
Valentín broke his arm in the fall after getting electrocuted. The doctor tells him he cannot get his cast wet and has to rest his arm for several days. What to do? Pascual did everything around the house! Perla offers to give him a hand. The first food she makes for him is so bad he compares it to old wet socks. She has to agree. They laugh and Perla thinks going out for some tacos might be better.

Javier has reappeared to sweet talk Yazmín. She makes it clear she is in a bad way when she tells him the best part of her day is taking one of her pills and going to sleep. He has to excuse himself to answer a call from a "work group". Out on the street he talks to another girl he is stringing along. Oliver hears him and calls him on it. He doesn't like that he is cheating on Yazmín. Javier tells him to stay away form his novia. Oliver pokes Javier in the shoulder and calls him a dog. He has no plans on staying away from Yazmín.

Anybody else want to predict who'll be getting their Karma anvils ?

A.MAR

Jarifa, thank you for your marvelous descriptive recap.

Tonight's dialogue eluded me and I so appreciate your explaining what was said and with great care and detail.

I always enjoy new vocabulary and "la náufraga" (shipwrecked woman)" was excellent.

"Marina Begins to Discover Who She is in SPITE of Brisa" had me smiling away. While "giddy" (which was perfect) Brisa the character is intrusive and annoying I have to say I am really enjoying the actresses' (Gaby's) interpretation especially her facial expressions. Brisa's little plan backfired and though she seemed truly embarrassed, I've no doubt she's far from ready to throw in the towel. 😊

I like that neither Fabian nor Oliver are deterred by their respective nemesis, ruthless Sergio and lying, cheating Javier.

Perla might not miss Pascual much but Valentin certainly will! No surprise it was Pascual who kept the household well organized and run smoothly.

Another fun episode Jarifa, thank you...

Say it isn't so...Not Ozan. What a sad thing.. Although I blame Reha mostly cause I hate him. These Mafia guys, were do they get em? They are like a Sopranos blooper reel.

KARSU

Gasp!
I did not expect that. Oh no oh no!

I thought Ozan would be another suitor for Karsu. Such a sweet man, and so dear to Deniz. This all was set in motion by Reha who is a horrible human being. First he makes a scene at Deniz’s school right when Deniz was about to present, then he sets thugs on Ozan?

I was thrilled to see Attila, man of action. Look at him take out those thugs! And then oh no, Ozan recognizes Attila and notices his clothes are different. How will that play out? But no, his henchman shoots Ozan, right in the back when he’s walking away. Just why? And there’s dying Ozan saying he knows Attila did it, but why? And then Attila so distressed when he dies. What a scene!

I thought the guy getting out of prison was Atilla’s father, but he seems to be a rival mafioso. Did I understand correctly that he swears to Atilla’s father “You took out my uncle, so I will take out your son?”

It was interesting that the older henchman said Attila is always helping people. Yet here he is ordering the execution of his henchman who yes, messed up. But a death sentence? And then getting tearful about Ozan. What a complex character.

Then there was the kids arguing at the table, and Lale asking Atilla out, and Reha gloating that he’s going to make lucrative deals with Adnan. I was surprised Adnan said Reha was an okay guy, just coarse. And we even had a comically horrible musical evening where Karsu looked fantastic in her ponytail.

What an awesome episode!

Karsu

Oh, that was such a sad episode, especially tear jerking when Deniz was sad that dad didn't show up to that awful dulcimer/clarinet singing trio. I'm glad everyone was in agreement that it was bad and it wasn't just me disliking the genre.

Irmak correcting bratty Tilsim had me cheering. We have been blaming Reha for being the one to set in motion the murder, but Tilsim also shares some of the blame by tattling. Of course the spying also was initiated by Reha, but she is petty enough I bet she would have told him anyhow.

Maggie, like you I thought maybe the guy being released was Atilla's dad, until the car conversation. You got more out of that than I did, though I realized Atilla is going to be his target.

Thanks Jarifa, I enjoyed the recap. And the episode too.

It was fun to see Brisa realize her great plan backfired. And good to have someone recognize Marina. Do we start calling her Antonio now!

Sergio is so convincing as the loving father, I’m afraid Azul will be completely taken in by him. Let’s hope Estrella continues to be wary of him. I’d hate to think she’ll give in because of Azul. We know Sergio will come back because he needs a family more than they do!

Hoping Fabian and Oliver will disclose the competition to Yazmin and Estrella. And Azul will realize on her own.

I wonder if Perla being with Valentin to help him will make her love him more or realize Pascual might be a better partner.

Karsu

I am so so sad about Ozan’s fate. I liked him so much! His loving relationship with Deniz was heart-warming. This will have a major effect on Atilla’s relationship with Deniz. Such sadness surrounds Atilla. If you live with violence, it’s too easy for errors to occur that hurt innocents. I think Atilla is in too deep for “redemption.” The guilt will always be there. That makes me sad because I really like him.

Reha is indeed to blame, as he so often is. I’m conflicted about the gunman. He was doing what he thought he should to protect his boss. Instead, he did something unforgivable. Harsh punishment for a harsh occupation.

The musical evening was funny! Keeping her constituents happy will be a full-time job for Filiz!

Adnan seems very forgiving and philosophical. His situation is such that, although he is kind and thoughtful, he will always be judged by his unforgivable act. Yet, this dizi is forcing us to see both sides. His and Irmak’s is a true love story. But, they inflicted unimaginable cruelty on a loved one.

No easy, black or white morality for us for Atilla and Adnan/Irmak. Now I wonder if I will ever see Reha as a gray area.

Karsu

What a tragic episode. Ozan’s death was really a shock. Poor Deniz. And he will never know what happened to his dad as they took the body to bury it. This is all on Reha. I’m hoping Tilsim will eventually realize what she set in motion. Reha and his petty jealousy are sickening. He even came close to ruining his son’s presentation. I’ve only watched a couple of Turkish telenovelas but I find them pretty unpredictable. Nothing happens the way I think it should.

Karsu

I’m in awe of the writing on this show. I love how the characters are revealed so slowly, how we see them from constantly new angles.

There’s Adnan, who we assumed was a selfish older creep who heartlessly ran off with his wife’s much younger yummy daughter. He’s looking more and more like a good guy, and it’s turning out that there was probably a big love story.

And last night Atilla. I was assuming that the big story arc would be that Deniz (and Karsu!) melted a hard heart. Then we found out that Atilla has been doing good deeds all along. So we have a man capable of astonishing cruelty and also tender compassion. How will this turn out?

Then there’s Filiz, who at first seemed like a shallow, vain, and self-involved mother, but we’ve found out that much of that is a façade to cover a deeply wounded woman. I do admire her fighting spirit.

A.MAR

I realized last night that I am really enjoying the pacing of this novela. It seems like they are not overwhelming us with plot lines, information or action. Easy viewing!

Thanks, Diana.

Brisa has always used "la náufraga" to refer to Marina. It wasn't as insulting when Marina had not chosen a name but now it is another way for Brisa to demean her. If everyone ends up paired up at the end of this novela as usual, who will Brisa end up with? I don't think it will be Valentín but who knows? Maybe we haven't seen him yet.

"I like that neither Fabian nor Oliver are deterred by their respective nemesis, ruthless Sergio and lying, cheating Javier." Me, too. I especially enjoyed the finger pokes that Oliver delivered.

"Perla might not miss Pascual much but Valentin certainly will!" Yes, especially becuse Perla cannot cook.

Liz, you're welcome. Good point about what to call Marina/Antonia. She seems like more of a Marina to me than an Antonia. I wonder which the writers will choose.

As for Azul's influence on Estrella to get her way: "I’d hate to think she’ll give in because of Azul." I had a bit of hope about her resolve when she refused to apologize to Sergio for the Fabián incident because she didn't do anything. I hope she follows her mother's advice.

"Hoping Fabian and Oliver will disclose the competition to Yazmin and Estrella. And Azul will realize on her own." If only . . .

Okay is there a Turkish cover for "Janie's Gotta a Gun"? Cause Deniz is one angry lil boy & I don't see any of these wallowing in my own pain idiots stepping up. I do still carry a torch for Atilla & wish Reha a painful exit from this mortal plane.

Busted out laughing when Whacky Ines caught Enrique & Mariana doing the nasty LOL & Ines went completely unhinged & I busted out laughing.

Inez’s character has gotten so much worse over the course of this telenovela. She’s really becoming more like her father. Maybe he saw some of him in her, hence she became the favorite of her father. But Memo’s face when she was learning that he’s Enrique’s son was too smirky. I hope his friends, who apparently he hasn’t paid, tell all to Roberto.

Excellent comments, Maggie, Kat, Liz, and Babachita. I was so sad they went to a dark place last night. Deniz was thriving, seeming to do well in school and helped by the wonderful Karsu, who's been so generous with Ozan. And it's tragic they seemingly won't know what happened. I fear Deniz will be bitter about the "abandonment".

Yep, that little brat Tilsim caused Ozan's death. She also was looking through her mother's phone for tidbits to pass on to her awful father. I think Ozan had some head injury or something. He couldn't seem to recognize that Atilla was trying to save him. They had a very pleasant meeting just a while ago.

Having his henchman shot and buried for screwing up is, I guess, what mafiosi do. I worry it may have moved Atilla out of contention as Karsu's partner. I'm have been really rooting for that. I was loving Deniz having two supportive men in his life.

Irmak is growing on me. And as for Adnan, I hope he doesn't give Reha a return phone call, much less money.

I watched this really late last night after recapping Velvet on Telemundo so I never posted a recap. Thanks for adding something.
