Hello everyone! We had a great weekend with some pivotal episodes, with one summary yet to come!
I’m thinking ahead to this coming weekend when we will do episodes 41-45. Darcy and I can do these, but we do appreciate some help in doing summaries. Please let us know if you want to do one of these and which episode number you’d like. They divide this way:
Saturday Episodes 41-43
Sunday Episodes 44-45
These can be any kind of summary you’d like.
Hoping you’ll join us!
Babachita
Babachita, I figured I should post on the new page about episode 39.
You filled in a lot of blanks for me. I'm with Darcy on omer cutting Elif some slack. Also, his family is no prize either. I'm on episode 41 now. I keep being offered the 2 hour version on you tube and I have to do a new search every time I start watching it again to get the 1 hour episodes with the correct numbering.
Give me another week to recover from my teeth. I go back tomorrow for a bone graft so I can get an implant further down the line. Next weekend I help with a Habitat for Humanity women's build on Saturday so I'm trying to watch ahead. I used to volunteer weekly until I became the full-time babysitter for my granddaughter when my consuegra got cancer and died last year. We used to share babysitting duties. Now I help a few times a year, and at the women's build it is all hands on deck to supervise the teams.
Getting ready to post now, I ended up with the short and sweet rewrite - I forgot that I had an appointment after work and it looks like my work week is going to get complicated, so I wanted to make sure I got it done tonight. I apologize in advance for typos!
Broken dishwasher and Elvan and Melike talking about the hardships and lack of money – poor vs. rich. Melike tells Elvan about Huseyn’s money for Demet’s studies!!!
Omer and Arda talking about Elif at a pool hall – they don’t come to any conclusions. Omer is unwilling to forgive Elif. He has worked too hard and his reputation is too important – he can’t be connected with a criminal. His heart can’t survive being broken twice.
Elif is experiencing her own heartbreak and startles awake from a nightmare. She goes in search of Nilufer and finds her not in bed. With further searching she finds her instead on a boat with Fatih!! This leads to a huge fight between the sisters! Elif can’t believe Nilufer could be with the man who is ruining her life but Nilufer thinks Fatih is the only one who truly loves her and Elif is the criminal that Fatih convinced her that she was! Elif can’t believe her sister would rather believe HIM than her own sister and Nil is ready to leave the house to move in with her boyfriend but Elif isn’t having it! She’ll do whatever it takes to keep that man away from her sister and what it takes it banishing Nilufer to Tio Tayyar’s house where he can keep her under lock and key and make sure she doesn’t see Fatih! Tayyar even takes Nilufer’s phone from her and a sobbing Nilufer simple submits to this treatment, proving she’s a prisoner to more than one person in her life! It’s almost fascinating how little backbone Nilufer has… in a very disturbing way! One slap from Elif with a ‘I’m your older sister and you’ll do what I’ll say whether you like it or not’ and she goes along whimpering. Then there’s the hidden undercurrent in Tayyar’s friendly request for her phone, it seems clear that Nilufer knows to fear Tayyar even if she might not be able to put it in words.
Omer was waiting in a parking lot for a mystery guest and at first, I thought it was his old captain but then I realized it’s the cop he called in the last episode. This dude is very distinguished looking, and as Omer briefs him on the case there’s a change in him – Omer is more open with this man then he is even with Huseyn or Arda or Belen, and there’s an ease of conversation that you didn’t even notice was missing until it’s present. Omer seems lighter somehow with this guy, his name is Sam. I’m not sure how Omer and Sam’s pasts line up, but it’s clear they’ve worked together before – or maybe even currently? Omer tells Sam all the details of the case, including Elif’s involvement and assures him that no one involved in this will escape the consequences, not even Elif. Sam advises Omer not to tell anyone – not even Huseyn that they have talked and Omer agrees.
Taner is still stuck with that annoying dripping water facet, I mention it both because it’s annoying and because that drip is oddly tied to his life source. I’m not sure how many days have actually gone by since Tayyar gave Fatih one day to kill Taner but the longest day ever is actually over now and Taner’s cellmate strangles him and somehow makes them rough assault look like suicide. I would question it, but let’s face it half the cops in town are bought and paid for we can sell whatever story we want and apparently the cellmate was able to fix the sink after committing murder because the next morning when he calls the guard Taner is hanging and the sink is silent.
Speaking of Evil Tio Tayyar, we already know he agreed to kidnap Nilufer in a mansion this time instead of an abandoned building. When Elif dropped her little sister off Tio asked all kinds of questions about why but Elif was as coy as she could get away with. She said enough for the astute Tayyar to draw some conclusions though. Nilufer needs to be kept away from bad influences (Fatih) and Elif is going away for some time to take care of something that will ruin her and her sisters if she doesn’t take care of it. Elif isn’t ready to talk about it but she’ll tell Tio all about it when she gets back. Tayyar agrees but after Elif leaves he warns Fatih it’s time to get Elif under control because she’s trying to get rid of her problems.
Tayyar meets with Fatih and shows him a video of Zerrin’s death. It turns out, Tayyar was lying about the camera being off in Asli’s room and the whole thing is on video!!! Tayyar is guessing that Elif is ready to rid herself of Fatih and turn herself into the police! Tayyar wants Fatih to use the video to pressure Elif into changing her mind – convince her Asli will rot in jail! Or commit suicide, either will work! Tayyar wants Elif at his mercy. Fatih calls Tayyar a bastard, not literally, but that’s the Darcy translation… Tayyar says he’s not a patient man especially not with Fatih and he’s just waiting for him to make a mistake so he can kill him! Fatih tells him to keep waiting and gets out of the car – I wonder if the ‘I’m gonna kill you’ threat has lost its sting yet? I am if I had a $1 for every time I’ve heard Tayyar threaten to kill Fatih? And I haven’t even known them that long…
Turns out astute Tayyar was right Elif is off to her lawyer Sebnem’s apartment late at night and is confessing about the money laundering. She wants to turn herself in.
The next morning Julia offers Elif breakfast but she turns it down and gives Julia a year’s salary instead! Elif is going away for a while. She asks Julia to come by and check in every so often and to return when Asli does. She thanks her for everything and leaves.
Fatih is talking to someone about a car being ready and her being on her way. Elif calls Sebnem and tells her she’s headed to the station. Fatih is driving, Elif is arriving. A black van is on the horizon. Elif gets out and starts to walk toward the building. The van approaches and grabs her, bag over the head.
Tayyar is carving up an animal because it keeps the baser urges at bay? Something about Cain and Abel and people wanting to kill their brothers and children and neighbors or something… I don’t know, I can’t listen to this psychopath. The corrupt police captain has to listen to him though and doesn’t seem any more thrilled about it than I do. He’s there to report that he successfully sold that B.S. about Taner killing himself and in the ‘More Bad News’ department he also tells Tayyar exactly where Pinar is!!! Omer doesn’t know where she is though and corrupty will make sure he doesn’t find out.
So, if we thought the Fatih kidnapped Elif we’d be wrong – turns out everyone wants to kidnap their own girlfriend in KPA!!! That’s right, stalker Omer has graduated! As the black van pulls up to an abandoned building, the bag is lifted off Elif’s head and she’s able to see that it’s Omer and Sam who have grabbed her! She’s very confused. Where is she? Why did they do that? Is she under arrest? She was going to turn herself in anyway, you know, her lawyer was meeting her at the police station. Omer says nothing, just does that bewildered stare that he does so well! Finally, it’s Sam that breaks the silence and tells Elif that they know she was going to turn herself in, that’s why they did this, to stop her! He let’s her know that he’s an officer in the Finance unit and he’s there to talk to her about her money laundering. They want to go into the building where no one can hear them.
Elif says she’s scared but Omer holds out her hand and she takes it, she reluctantly walks inside and Sam tells her to listen carefully to what they are going to tell her. What they are going to say needs to stay between them. She can’t tell her lawyer, her sisters, not even her friend Belen. Omer adds, not my brother or Arda or Belen; no one but us three. Elif doesn’t understand, what do they want her to do? Omer answers, they want her to work with them. To infiltrate the gang, to bring them down! No way, Elif says, she can’t. But Omer says it’s the other way. Those guys aren’t going to let her walk away and the cops aren’t going to care that she was a victim, without them she ends up dead or in jail – this is the only way out!
I loved this show when I watched it years ago, and I love reading these discussions , but I can't remember all the names and situations . I do remember that the peek into the lives of the rich and the poor was fascinating . I do remember that the acting was superb, especially Engin and Tuba, who starred in other dizis . Susan
Darcy, great recap and this episode is fresh in my mind (but I also watched 41 and they are getting jumbled again) so hopefully I can give some pertinent observations. Sorry you had to do it twice. Thanks for identifying Sam. He is distinguished looking. And a name I can probably remember,as opposed to the crooked police guy that keeps tipping Tayyer off. I didn't realize he told him where Pinar is. Where is she, they showed her being found on the boat near death, and that was it for her appearance in the show. Back to Sam, seems he and omer have worked together in the past. I got the impression he is his current boss. I'm not sure why Omer is still spending so much time with Hussein's team though since he isn't in their department. Unless it's on his free time and they are getting together as friends that just happen to love to talk about their jobs.
Has the death of Taner been told to the family yet? The extras are dropping like flies, just as their names are starting to stick in my mind.
Susan, good to see you chiming in. Which actor is Tuba? I could look it up I guess, but I'm sure someone will chime in.
Take all the time you need. I’m glad you’re following along. It’s such a great story!!!
Babachita
I thought maybe Omer had called some very high policeman in the money laundering division. I think Sami was Omer’s old boss. So, either Omer called Sami or he called a higher person who put him together with Sami. But, whatever, I really like Sami! He’s handsome (the actor) and I also like his character.
Tuba is Elif.
Susan, it’s great to see you! Another Engin fan, I believe!
Babachita
Hi, Kat and Babachita, I think I have watched Engin and Tuba as the leads in so many dizis that the shows are getting all mixed up in my mind . Big Engin fan. He was the lead in my favorite dizi " Fatmagul" which dondi recommended .
Susan
Kat, I have to do a search nearly every time to find my next episode on YouTube. I’ve just accepted it as part of the process. :(
I have time during the week to get these done. So, I’m going to go ahead and do 41 and 43 and save them for the weekend. Darcy, we’ll see if anyone will do an episode, and, if not, we’ll divvy them up.
So far, then:
Saturday. 41 Babachita
42
43 Babachita
Sunday. 44
45
Babachita
That looks awful. I’ll try again.

Kat - Pinar is in an intensive care unit in a hospital somewhere - not Tayyar's hospital thankfully, but that only helps a little since Tayyar knows which hospital. He can't get to the hospital yet though because of all the people around watching her.
It was unclear how Sam and Omer knew each other - or hard to pin down. I would say they definitely worked together before at some point, he could be an old boss, but not necessarily the current old boss. They had that rapport and Sam made a comment along those lines, but Omer is currently transferred to Husseyn's team, so he is officially working with them. Although, this episode made me wonder if maybe he's doing double duty? When Sam introduced himself to Elif though, he did tell her he was an agent from Finance so maybe he and Omer worked together once upon a time and they've both moved on to different roles but now that Omer is in a tricky situation he called upon someone, he had history with that he knew he could trust?
I'm not sure yet, what I am sure of is that this means Omer knows there's corruption in the local cops and he can't trust them! He might not necessarily suspect his BFFs and his brother, but he knows something is going on and he's calling in someone he can trust to work this investigation - now they are investigating separately and telling no one - not even Arda and Belin what they are doing.

Sounds good, we'll see if anyone wants to join us in the next couple days. My work is in upheaval at the moment but it might quiet down by the end of the week so I might get started early too if I get free time later in the week.
Happy Tuesday!
Omer perhaps doing double duty would make sense. Sami is certainly being very careful with the secret location. Doing double duty is tough to pull off successfully and very tiring. Trying to find the crooked cop will also be tough as there is more than one that we know of. Also, one is his beloved brother.
Thanks for the summary! I’m enjoying this journey with you and maybe we’ll attract some more. I’m really impressed with Engin. He seems to have an unlimited amount of facial expressions to convey any possible emotion without saying a word.
Babachita
Babachita, I’m sorry for the loss of your Lorena.
Thanks for the recaps, Babachita and Darcy. A lot has happened in the last 5 eps! The story really takes an unexpected turn.
Yes, Omer and Sami know each other well. Sami is a chief in Financial Crimes. Omer called him—this is Omer Demir from Organized Crimes in Van, now Homicide in Istanbul. He addressed Sami as “amırım”, (my) chief. Omer is going out on his own here. He shouldn’t be doing this and he’s not telling anyone else so they don’t interfere (dirty cops or not) or get friends in trouble. Later he called Sami “amırım ve hocam” (my chief and my teacher) and “abi” (older brother). Omer said he doesn’t trust himself but he trusts Sami.
Five episodes are a lot to cover over a weekend. I can probably do one recap per weekend. I work full time, sometimes weekday overtime and from home on weekends. And everyone has outside of work obligations, too. As such, I often fall behind in watching and commenting on the patio. Would you consider going down to 3 eps per weekend? Or spreading episodes over the week? Less pressure to watch and more time discuss each episode in detail. I’ll understand if the current schedule works better for others.
Thanks, Dondi! I think there's room to rethink the scheduling - we moved to weekends on Kat's suggestion and honestly, I do have more time on the weekends myself, but 5 episodes in one weekend IS a lot! I also work full time and my job has been very stressful lately. It's difficult for me to write recaps on weeknights because I come home so mentally exhausted so days... but maybe there's room for a mixture of both? Maybe we could do 3 over the weekend and two during the week? Really since we are watching on Youtube we can make our own rules.
It's still several weeks away, but while I'm thinking about scheduling, it does bring to mind the fact that I will be out of town the last two weekends in October, so I won't be able to recap at all those weekends.
Susan, I also watched Fatmagül probably on Dondi's recommendation. It pretty much took first place in my favorite list also, but I don't have too many Dizis under my belt yet
I'm certainly in agreement to spread the episodes out. Dondi, thanks for the additional information about Sami. Very helpful. Really, as has been mentioned, since this is YouTube fare going at whatever pace works is probably best. I was binge watching, then stopped when it looked like there was interest in setting up a patio. I also agree that 5 on the weekend is a lot.
Thank you for the kind remarks about our dog. It is hard for us to adjust, but she’s in a better place as she had lots of pain toward the end .
The episodes were so full last weekend. I think since we are so few, maybe doing three a week would be preferable. It keeps us from bingeing, although there’s no law against going ahead while keeping to the summary schedule. (Guilty of this!)
I’m retired, but I have lots that I do. Quite frankly, this past weekend doing two really got in the way of my life. (I did have some tech issues, which made it worse!)
I would be happy if we did three a week, with summaries done (due) on the weekend. Maybe one Friday, one Saturday, and one Sunday? I now do mine early and save my word file until it's time to publish.
Just suggestions.
It’s such a great story! I have learned so much from seeing it again. I can adjust to any schedule. And, we can revisit later. I’m thinking the holidays may be challenging. Less episodes a week might be better. If we find ourselves bored in the winter, we can adjust again!
Babachita
I'm good with going to 3 episodes a week - Friday to Sunday if that works for everyone. And Babachita you make a very good point in that we adjust again if we want to at a later date! :)
I’m going to go forward with three episodes this week: 41- 43. We can change if it’s not working.
I’ll do 41, if it’s ok with everyone.
KPA Episodes 41-43
Friday: 41. Babachita
Saturday. 42:
Sunday. 43:
Take your pick and let us know!
Babachita
Dondi you can choose next if you would like to. I can do either Saturday or Sunday, I have no preference.
