#15 part 1
Sadakat orders Alya to fulfill her wifely duties. Alya replies, I have but one duty, to protect my son from you. Cihan intervenes. He pulls Alya away from Sada and takes her to his bedroom. He reminds her of their deal. She will sleep in the bedroom, and he will sleep in the adjacent room.
Alya shows Cihan the ripped red nighty. She feels Sada is taunting her and enjoying it. She declares, I’ll never sleep with you! This is not a marriage, I only did this for my son. Why are you telling me this, he fires back, I accepted the terms. He reminds her again about their agreement and that his mother has no idea about it.
Alya goes on and on. She cries over Sada mentioning a baby in front of Deniz. The poor kid, his father was killed, and he saw his mother marry his uncle. And now granny wants another grandchild. Cihan asks her to calm down. She won’t stay in this bedroom and asks Cihan to bring the key for hers.
Cihan tries to reason with her. My mother takes advantage of people’s weaknesses. She knows we won’t be together. That’s why she’s messing with us. We have to convince everyone in the konak and in Albora that this marriage is real. You stay here and I’ll stay there. You will have the key, and the door will always be closed. Trust me. Cihan agrees, it’s hard for him, too. But there’s no choice.
Wow, Cihan shows up at Mine’s door. She gladly takes him by the hand and pulls him inside. He asks her why she came to the wedding. She wanted to see it. She thought it would make it easier to accept. But it wasn’t. You knew the wedding was a formality, he says, you shouldn’t have gone.
Mine asks, are you afraid Alya will find out? She won’t, Cihan replies. Why hide it from her, Mine says, I’ve done a lot for her. Why don’t you want her to know? He just doesn’t. Here comes the big question: What if you fall in love with her (Alya)? Cihan is direct, it’s my wedding night, and I came here for you. Why do you want to talk about that? Mine says this marriage will last for years, what if something changes? What if you fall in love?
Cihan tells her it’s the same as Seyda. Did I fall in love then? Seyda hated you, Mine replies. Cihan says that Alya hates him just as much. Mine asks, who shot Alya? He doesn't want to talk about that either. She mentions Sadakat. She wants another grandchild. Maybe we can give her one. I already have a son, Cihan answers, his name is Cihan and he’s a beautiful boy. I don’t want another one. I don’t want to talk about this again.
Edit: Sahin watches TV and has a flashback to years earlier. He made a kite for Nare, and she gives him a ring to seal their love. Sahin and his Nare fly the kite. End flashback. Sahin still wears that ring. Cut to Ozkan and Nare in their bedroom. He wonders why Sahin didn’t come to the wedding. Is it because he reported Sada to the police? Nare would rather not talk about it. Ozkan moves in for a kiss, and she pushes him away citing her delicate condition.

#15 part 2
Next morning, Cihan returns to the bedroom and covers Alya, who slept on a chair instead of the bed. She startles awake and tells him, don’t touch me. He gives her the key to her room so she can get her clothes. She wants to check on Deniz first. He tells her to start calling the boy Cihan.
Alya and Deniz have a tickle/wrestling session. Deniz invites his uncle to join in. He says that breakfast is ready.
Pakize gossips to her mom as she picks up the ripped nighty. I told you that woman wouldn’t sleep with Cihan Bey. Sadakat enters the bedroom. She stares at the unslept in bed and the ripped nighty. She asks the ladies to come with her.
At breakfast, Deniz asks Kaya about zıpte (honey and butter). Sada tells Ummu to put some on Deniz’s bread. He wants his mom (anne) to do it. Sada says that his mom (ana) isn’t there because she has no manners. Deniz asks what Sada means by “ana”. Cihan explains it means the same as “anne”. Deniz says his mother went to change her clothes. Sada looks smugly satisfied.
Alya returns to her room and finds her clothes are torn up and tossed on the bed. She brings a suitcase full to the dining room and asks Pakize to take Deniz to his room. Then she dumps the clothes out and accuses Sada and Ummu of cutting them up. Sada tells Ummu to get a bag for all this garbage.
Cihan asks Ummu to leave. He asks Sada why she did this. You got married, she replies, she can’t wear these clothes. She will wear clothes befitting the wife of the Albora leader. Alya is furious. Cihan says he will get her new clothes. Alya says that’s not the point. I can get my own clothes. I’ll live in this mansion and make my own living. I won’t depend on you. I’m a doctor and I’ll work.
Sada says the wife of an Albora leader doesn’t work. Cihan steps in. He tells Sada, if Alya does anything inappropriate, he will evaluate the situation. Alya objects. Cihan tells her to keep quiet. He continues with Sada, she (Alya) is under my protection now. Don’t interfere. I decide what she can and can’t do.
Sada asks if Alya is fulfilling her wifely obligations for him to behave like her husband. She will be your wife when she gives you a child. Then she picks at the name Alya. She wants Alya to be called Aliye from now on. Alya leaves the room. Cihan insists his wife will be called Alya. If you care this much, Sada replies, then leave that other woman’s bed and be with your wife.
Alya rants at Cihan as soon as he enters the bedroom. Nobody tells me what clothes to wear! Nobody can stop me from working! [She’s beginning to tire me with this ranting. She doesn’t give Cihan a chance.] Cihan says no one will stop her. He made a promise. She complains he didn’t say so at breakfast.
Cihan tells her he’s trying to act like a husband. He made her his legal wife before all Albora. It means something, he says. You must always have my approval. Everyone needs to know that I make the decisions that concern my wife. That’s why I said this to my mother. No one is holding you back. Wear whatever clothes you want, work where you want. Just consult me first. Alya snarks, fine. Then make me a list of what I can and cannot do. But I’ll have a list for you, too.
#15 part 3
Lol, Alya heads for the door and a job interview. In pajamas? Cihan says Muzzafer is bringing clothes. And what’s the hurry he asks her. What about Deniz? Alya fires back, in Toronto, I managed to be a mother and a professional at the same time. I’ve been out of work for months. My profession is a big part of my life. She’s got interviews lined up. Cihan is okay with that, but he wants Muzzafer and Kadir to take her. He insists on it. Ha, he tells her to be patient and calls her “Aliye”.
Edit: Sada calls her brother, Hasan and tells him to contact the hospitals in the area and tell them not to hire Alya.
Ecmel gets a family visit. He tells them that Sadakat is a liar. He warns Sahin not to go near that woman for any reason. You did the right thing by reporting her. Fidan says, it didn’t work. That widow (Alya) was too frightened to say anything. Now she’s Cihan’s wife, poor woman.
Ecmel reminds Sahin he had accused him of working with the Baybars. But Cihan is the one who’s been working with Nadim. The dog is ours, but it barks in someone else’s yard. Now you can see the truth with your own eyes. He advises his children to listen to him from now on.
After the visit, Ecmel calls Demir. Your father lowered his head so he could walk through Albora’s doors, didn’t he? Demir confirms. Ecmel continues, the others ran to him. Those idiots thought we’d play along. Cihan already gave his word. He’s not permitting any weapons but handguns.
Demir says the other families got nothing. Ecmel says they will explain that their businesses will only prosper if they let Sahin take total control. Did you discuss this with Sahin, Demir asks, will he take control? Ecmel says he convinced his son. He will be the leader of the Alboras. Can you become the leader of the Baybars? Don’t doubt it, Demir replies. Ecmel says Cihan is doing the shipment with Nadim. He will let Demir know when and Demir should notify the police and have his father caught. Demir agrees.
Nadim and Cihan talk about the shipment. Nadim asks, when will we ship? Cihan hasn’t decided yet. Nadim leaves. Halis notes that that the others are not very trustworthy. What if they decide to betray us, he asks Cihan, do you have a plan? Erol tells him not to worry.
Alya goes on interviews. Cihan checks in with Kadir. He tells Cihan that they’ve been to 3 hospitals, and none have hired Alya. Cihan suspects Sada is behind this. Alya is frustrated. There are no openings for her. Alya says she’s going to Yonca Hospital next. That’s Mine’s hospital. Kadir tells Cihan.
Demir’s henchies check in. They are headed to Midyat and we are following. They are following Alya.
Cihan is there to meet Alya upon arrival at Yonca. Alya accuses Cihan of scaring off potential employers. No hospital in Mardin will hire her. He says he had nothing to do with it. It was Sada. He tells Alya not to try Yonca.
Alya is determined. What should she do? Sit at the mansion all day? Cihan says Sada won’t leave her alone wherever Alya is. She just wants you gone. And I want to leave, Alya replies, let me leave with my son right now. Don’t start with that, Cihan answers. Alya enters Mine’s office and Cihan follows her in.
#15 part 4
Mine asks, what can I do for you? I’d like to meet with the chief of medicine, Alya says. Mine asks why. I’m interested in working here, Alya replies. Mine is surprised—really? That’s great. In the background, Cihan shakes his head no. Alya says, you know I just married Cihan. Mine offers her congratulations again. Alya continues, I live in the Albora konak which is nearby. So I’d like to meet with him if possible. I checked, his name is Kamil Gozoglu, right?
He's traveling abroad, Mine says, he will be back tomorrow. Alya asks to schedule an appointment. She’ll send a CV tonight. Mine says okay, Kamil will review and reach out if he’s interested. Alya hands her business card to Mine. Alya leaves.
Mine tells Cihan that this is too much. Now I have to have her working with me? Cihan thinks Kamil won’t accept Alya. Mine thinks otherwise. Alya studied abroad and has a brilliant career. He might hire her.
Alya storms off. She wants to buy clothes that fit her. Cihan tells her to order online. She’s tired of being controlled. Cihan reminds her of their agreement, and he’ll take her shopping.
Sahin is spying on Nare. He follows her to a shopping mall. The same one that Cihan takes Alya to. Ha, Cihan puts his gun in the glove box before going in. Alya chooses clothes to try on. Nare shops for baby clothes. Sahin lurks. She spots him and hurries off. He chases her.
How dare you follow me, Nare asks, what is wrong with you? I can’t let you go, Sahin replies. I told you I’m not returning to the mansion, she says, but I wanted to. I wanted to leave Ozkan. He asks, why didn’t you? Because Pakize called me, she says, if I returned, my mother wouldn’t let you back in.
Alya comes out of the dressing room. She’s wearing a top that shows some cleavage. A couple of men notice her and comment on her beauty. Cihan hears and threatens to rip out their tongues. One of the men recognize him as Cihan Albora. They make a hasty retreat. Cihan quickly puts a coat around Alya and tells the salesperson to pack everything up and they’ll send someone for it later.
Cihan tells her, now do you understand why you shouldn’t go shopping alone? I can’t limit myself because some men are rude, she answers. But you never know when you will run into them, he replies. And now they cross paths with Nare and Sahin. Cihan addresses Sahin—what are you doing here? He tells Sahin to get lost. Nare goes with Cihan.
Kaya tries calling Zerrin outside of school. Unavailable. He puts his gun in the glove box and enters the school grounds.
Cihan tells the women to get in the car, and he goes back to confront Sahin. The ladies follow him. Sahin says he did nothing wrong. Cihan shouts for the women to go back to the car. Sahin says he didn’t betray Cihan, he told the truth. Your mother deceived my father. Let Alya hear this. She should know. Cihan threatens to kill Sahin. Sahin asks, you don’t want her to know the bad things your mother has done? But Alya knows better. Everyone refuses to see it.
#15 part 5
Cihan answers, not everything that’s happened is my mother’s fault. Sahin turns to Nare, wasn’t your mother the cause? Didn’t she separate us? Cihan warns Sahin. Sahin continues, why did Hasan hide his identity when he worked for my father? None of us knew, not even you. Cihan says he had to hide because of a blood feud. Sahin says it was so no one knew he was Sada’s brother. His father wouldn’t have hired him. Cihan replies that Ecmel’s lies have blinded Sahin. Sahin says Sada’s lies have left Cihan blind and deaf. Cihan says let’s all go to the mansion.
Zerrin sits on a bench, and some creepy guy is watching her. He approaches and sits next to her. She quickly gets up and tells him to leave her alone. He grabs her and tells her he likes her. She struggles to break free. Kaya sees this, jumps the guy and starts beating him. Zerrin pulls him away. He works for Demir Baybars! He’s a member of the Nalhanoglu family! Kaya gives the guy another punch for working for Demir. Friends pull Kaya away and hold him so the guy can beat Kaya. We don’t see this, but security breaks up the fight and kicks Kaya out.
Back at the Albora konak, Cihan tells Alya to take Deniz upstairs and stay there. Sada comes downstairs and wants Sahin to leave. Alya peeks in from upstairs. Cihan tells Sada that he asked Sahin to come. Hasan shows up. Sada asks, what is going on?
Hasan wants to know why Cihan called him. I have a question that only you can answer, Cihan says, when you worked for Ecmel, you concealed your identity. Tell us why. Hasan and Sada look at each other. Cihan pulls his gun and holds it to Hasan’s head. Don’t look at her, look at me.
Sada appeals to her son—don’t do this. Cihan demands an answer. Others plead with Cihan to put the gun down. Hasan says, we are family, have you lost your mind? Cihan warns everyone to stand back. Stay out of it.
Cihan asks again, you worked for Ecmel Amca back then, but you changed your identity. You and my mother conspired to lie to my uncle and send him to jail, right? Answer me. Cihan is ready to pull the trigger.
And we are out.
Dondi – this is outstanding. I read it very closely. So much happened!
What’s up with Hasan? How could he work anonymously with Ecmel? Hasan is a family member, an in-law. Ecmel would know him.
Do I understand correctly that Nadim and Cihan figure it’s best to work together peacefully, but Ecmel wants his son Sahin to head up the Albora and hothead Demir to head up the Baybars?
Cihan gets no brownie points from me. He’s ordering the women around. There’s Mine who tells him again that she loves him and he again just stares and doesn’t say anything. He orders her to get him another drink and she complies.
He thinks Alya should just get clothes from a catalog and when the poor thing insists on going to the mall, he trails her. She can’t even go shopping alone. And when a couple of guys say hubba hubba he drags her out of the mall. He orders her and Nare into the car. He goes along on her interview at Mine’s hospital and even goes into Mine’s office with Alya. He stands behind Alya and sabotages her interview (at the last hospital left for her to apply to!) by shaking his head no at Mine behind Alya’s back.
Whenever Alya complains he seems out of patience with her, though he knows it’s his mother’s fault. And we’re supposed to admire this guy?
Somebody explain to me what’s the deal with the merchandise that is going to pass through Albora lands. Is it coming from a neighboring country? Is the border closed? Cihan wants just legit stuff to cross his lands – medicine, electronics, if guns only small ones. If it’s legit stuff, why can’t it be transported on public roads? If from another country, can’t it just pass through the border checkpoint? I can’t think they’re avoiding import fees as the 25% Cihan is charging is very steep and import fees probably wouldn’t be that much.
Anyway, I’m betting the merchandise in this upcoming “shipment” is not going to be the legit stuff Cihan agreed to.
Great summary, Dondi! I think Cihan’s “commanding” attitude reminds me of Sancar Efe in Hija del Embajador. There’s an inside joke here that some will get: Sanjar’s mom was played by the Sadakat actress! Anyway, both Cihan and Sanjar were over the top bossy, entitled, and used to ordering women around. But, I sense that Cihan has a good heart, like Sancar. Their mom/s raised them to be this way. I have hopes Cihan will come along but he’s hard to like right now. We need to see his little Alya smile again.
What’s wrong with Alya as a name? Is Sad just poking Alya or is it not a proper Turkish name?
The shopping trip was impressive. Looked like nice things, but threatening types and body guards abound. They really live in a remote area, far from the cosmopolitan world Alya is from.
Babachita
.
Thanks, dondi. That was a terrific recap. And you pointed out all the subtle points.
I also found Alya annoying in this episode. From what Cihan said to her, he'd already explained his sleeping in an adjoining room, and she'd apparently agreed beforehand, so why not get into that big, inviting bed. And, yes, she did go on and on. But, a bit in her defense, the things Sadakat is doing would drive anyone to hysteria.
Mine: "What if you fall in love with her?" Many, many in Viewerville were nodding their heads, predicting exactly this. Wow. We learn that Cihan and Mine were an item even when he was married to Seyda. Also...where are the children that Mine has? It was stated early on that she's a widow with, presumably, non-Albora kids and thus inappropriate wife material. Cihan better be sure he's using condoms. I think Mine wouldn't hesitate to become pregnant.
Sigh. Sadakat is beyond outrageous and apparently all seeing. She seems to know every movement of everyone in her household. Ripping up Alya's clothing supposedly because they are inappropriate for a married woman? That's what she said out loud, but she really just likes torturing Alya.
Alya isn't quite grasping how precarious living in this region as the wife of one of these clan leaders. She gets huffy about Cihan sending guards with her to go shopping. But I suspect he's right to do so.
Ecmel is an enigma to me. He sure seems like a nasty piece of work. But last night we got a hint that the nastiness may be as a result of Sadakat, using her brother, to set him up for a prison term.
Looks like Cihan should have shot Demir in that very first scene, when he chased him in a car. The guy is betraying his own father. Nadim actually seems like a decent guy.
Sahin finds out why Nare moved back in with Ozkan. It was for his benefit, so he could continue to work with Cihan. But, of course, that fell apart.
Maggie, I'm not surprised Hasan was able to hide his identity from Ecmel. We've seen that Sadakat was a servant. Her brother would probably also have been a nonentity that Ecmel would not have known. Also, Maggie...brownie points!!! I haven't heard that one in a long time.
Babachita, excellent point about how different this area is for Alya from Toronto, to say the very least. I get the impression that women alone might always be at risk of men perhaps assuming they are available for harassment if they don't have a male with them.
Lejos de Ti - Uzak Zehir
Episode 16 #1
El Ave de la Discordia - The Bird of Discord
At the konak, Cihan, Hasan, Sahin, Kaya, and Sadakat are meeting, with Alya and Nare listening.
Cihan: I have only one question, Hasan. When you worked with Uncle Ecmel, you disguised your identity. Tell us why.
Hasan stalls, looking at Sadakat. Cihan gets his gun and holds it to Hasan’s temple: Don’t look at her. Look at me.
Sadakat: Son, don’t! Put the gun down. Why are you doing this?
The group is trying to calm Cihan down. Hasan: Have you lost your mind? We’re family.
Cihan tells his mom to back off and stop meddling.
Cihan: You worked for Uncle Ecmel back then, but you changed your identify. You and my mother conspired to lie to my uncle in the business, and the two of you sent him to jail. Right?
Sahin is visibly anxious at hearing this.
Cihan: Answer!
He starts to pull the trigger, and Sadakat finally yells: It’s true. You won’t pay for this (to her brother). I planned it all. I did it, Cihan.
Cihan finally lowers his gun.
Sahin: They conspired to make you the leader of the Albora? So, who betrayed whom? Who was it? Answer me!!!
Sadakat doesn’t answer and Sahin storms off.
Cihan: I can’t believe everything you say, mother. What can I do?
Sadakat: If you’d gone through what I had, you’d understand.
Cihan: I asked you if Uncle Ecmel being in jail was your doing. Remember what you said to me?
“No, son, I’d never lie to you.”
Sadakat: It’s not a lie.
Cihan: Then what is it?
Sadakat: What I said wasn’t a lie. I had to fight against that devil. I gave him what he deserved.
Cihan: You’ve embarrassed me in front of everyone. Sahin was right. Uncle Ecmel should have been the leader of the Alboras.
Sadakat: Stop!!! Never say that again! He’s a devil, a snake. Should I have left the people in these lands at the mercy of that tyrant? I’ve never regretted what I had to do and I never will. You shouldn’t either. If you don’t understand that, nobody in these lands will forgive you any crime.
Sadakat strides off.
Hasan: Everything I did was for the honor and dignity of this family. That devil you call your uncle, that you’re defending, should what he did to my sister have gone unpunished? I couldn’t have taken it. He’s where he should be. And I don’t regret it even a little bit. He deserved it.
Hasan leaves.
Alya is shaking her head after hearing all this.
Cihan tells Kaya to take Nare to her house.
Nare: She ruined our lives. My future could have been different.
Cihan nods in agreement and reaches out to her: Yes, I know.
Kaya goes to leave with Nare and says to Cihan: Honestly, I don’t think I can forgive mom.
In her room, Sadakat strokes a picture of an older man. Cihan enters the room.
Cihan: What else have you kept from us, Mom?
Sadakat: What else do you want to know, son?
Cihan: I don’t know. But I feel like there’s something else between you and Uncle Ecmel, something from the past. I always sensed it, but I could never put my finger on it.
Sadakat: That coward abandoned me.
Cihan: You did all that out of spite? You were so offended that you waited until Uncle Hasan has grown up, and then you sent him to Ecmel. You did all of this because he left you?
He takes the photo out of her hand.
Babachita
Episode 16 #2
Cihan: You were married to my father and had three children. [Three is what the translation says. I don’t know if it means three sons and doesn’t include Nare or maybe three living children. But it seemed odd as there were four children.] You loved each other very much, Mom. I got to see it up close. You were an example. Why didn’t you let the past die? I think I know the answer to that. Behind all that hate, you feel something stronger for Uncle Ecmel. It’s clear, right Mom?
Sadakat: No. No.
Cihan: No, I don’t believe that word anymore.
Sadakat: Leave me in peace, Cihan. I want to be alone.
He leaves her hugging the picture, crying.
In town, Cihan enters a market and finds Sahin at a table.
Cihan: A lot of mistakes were made in the past. Mine, yours, and our families continue to make them. (He waits awhile before continuing) I prefer to learn from my mistakes, Sahin. I choose to admit the errors and learn every day. Because when one gets tired of making mistakes, the truth can be seen. You were like a brother to me. If you wanted to fight me, I think you should have done it openly. If you had something to say, you should have told me to my face.
Sahin: I tried to tell you many times, but you never paid attention to me. I told you that my father was in prison because of your mother, but you didn’t believe me.
Cihan: Time will tell who’s truly to blame.
Sahin: You still won’t accept it.
Cihan: Can you? Do you accept that your father was also responsible? He wasn’t innocent, Sahin. If your father weren’t in jail, Albora would be drowning in drugs. He sold weapons to terrorists and shot a police officer. A man who’s willing to act like that out of greed and a hunger for power, do you think he would’ve let me live? Would he have spared my mother? What would he have done to Kaya? Would Nare still be alive? I don’t think so. I told you that you’re an Albora, Kaya’s an Albora, so am I. All of us are Alboras. I never told you that it belongs to me. It belongs to all of us. It’s for all of us. You know what your father says? “Mine! Albora is mine and no one else’s.” Even though he’s in prison, he’s still ruining Albora and digging its grave. Sahin, I’m sure of it. You know why? For greed, avarice. He’ll always want more.
Sahin: And he deserved to be imprisoned for that? Does that make your mother right? Is that what you think?
Cihan gives the lip signal for “No.” Nobody deserved that.
He gets up, thanks Sahin for the tea, and strides off.
(More Spanish music in the opening credits! Aaaargh!)
Cihan joins Kaya on the stairs.
Cihan: Who’d you fight with this time?
Kaya: I went to Zerrin’s school to see her. She wasn’t answering her phone, so I decided to enter and saw a man talking to her and grabbing her arm and I couldn’t hold back. I hit him.
Cihan: Do we know him? Does he belong to an important family?
Kaya: I don’t know.
Cihan: Don’t go to the university anymore. The situation is tense and we don’t want more problems. Avoid her for now.
At Baybars:
The man that Kaya hit is covered with bandages and reporting back to Demir: It’s that idiot’s brother. That’s why I came to see you. I wanted to tell you what he did to me.
Demir is eating and listening, barely, and doesn’t invite him to join him.
Henchie continues: I’m sorry that I ruined your dinner.
Demir: Don’t worry, you haven’t. You said he went to see Zerrin Albora, right?
Henchie: Yes, and he behaved like she was his girlfriend. She’s always alone. I never saw her with him. By the way, I really like her. I’d like to get to know her better, know what I mean?

Episode 16 #3
Demir: Yes, I understand. Then don’t let her go. Don’t forget, you have me to back you up. Get that girl. It’s your right. You are very strong. Everyone is going to know that she belongs to you and we’ll teach Kaya a lesson.
[Uh oh! It’s your right, she belongs to you??? What century is this?]
Henchie looks a bit serious.
Demir: Now, join me. Eat with me. (As if it’s a real honor he is bestowing.)
Henchie: Thank you, Demir.
Back at Albora konak, Alya is making a delicious looking soup in the kitchen with Deniz.
Pakize enters and tells Alya she has put her purchases in her room and organized them.
Alya: They finally made it. Thank you.
Pakize likes the outfit Alya is wearing. It’s the one with the cleavage that caused the ruckus at the store. Alya promises to take Pakize out to pick an outfit she would like.
Ummu: Miss Alya, you added the ingredients and seasoned it, I can mix it for you. I can’t get used to the bosses cooking.
Alya, Taking the spoon back: And I can’t get used to being waited on. Please. We can make new customs. Everyone eating together is better.
Cihan walks in. Deniz tells him to come taste the best tomato soup in the world, made by his mother.
Ummu: Mr. Cihan, we’d made soup, but since the little one insisted on his mother making some, we didn’t want to force him to eat ours.
Cihan: Don’t you like our soups?
Demiz: Yes, but I really wanted to eat Mommy’s.
Alya: Awww! The soup is ready. Let’s eat now.
They go over to the table set for the three of them.
Deniz wants him to eat soup, Cihan says he is not hungry, and Deniz insists because his mother made it. Cihan gives in.
Ummu tries to serve, but Deniz wants his mother to do it.
Alya wants the two workers to join them. Ummu tells her they have already eaten.
Deniz tells Cihan he is so bored because he never gets to leave the konak.
Deniz: When do we get to visit other places? I want to see the lands.
Cihan: You’re right. I remember that I made you a promise. Once you’ve calmed down, I promise we’ll go, OK?
Deniz tells them he can feed himself and everyone starts to eat. Cihan makes one of those little smiles. He likes Alya’s soup. He seems surprised at this.
In Deniz’ room, Alya is reading Deniz a story about a giraffe. Deniz is looking sleepy. She leaves the book for another day and tucks him in.
Cihan is waiting in Alya’s room.
Alya tells him she heard enough of what happened with Hasan.
Alya: I’m not the only one whose life your mother is ruining. I don’t know what kind of person she is.
Cihan: Even though she’s made mistakes, she’s my mother and I don’t like you talking about her like that, you understand? It’s not right.
Alya: You’re right. Of course, she will always be your mother. Sigh. But I’m a mother, too, Cihan. Do you think I deserve to be treated like this?
Cihan stands, sighs, and says he is tired and is going to lie down. We’ll talk later.
Alya: Alright. I want to rest, too. Oh, and where’d you go last night? You slept there.
Cihan doesn’t answer the question: I’m going to take my things.
Alya: That’s the wrong wardrobe.
She points at the correct one. He takes some pajamas out.
He wishes her a good night and closes the door.
In his room, he doesn’t look too pleased with the couch. He goes to wash up and notices some of her jewelry and toothbrush.
Alya in pajamas lets herself into Deniz’s room and crawls into bed with him.
Deniz: Mom, respect my personal space. She moves back to her side of the bed. She looks up at the ceiling with a “What have I done?” expression.

Episode 16 #4
Next morning, Cihan hesitates, then enters her room, but the bed is empty. She’s not in the chair, either. He goes to Deniz’s room and sees him still asleep on the bed. Alya is sleeping on the floor. Cihan goes to her: Alya, why don’t you sleep in your room?
Alya: I don’t know how I ended up here (on the floor). I’m hurting all over.
Cihan: Sleep in your room. It’s still early. I’m ready to leave. Go and sleep in your room and get some rest, OK?
Cihan leaves and goes to meeting with Kaya, Erol, Nadim (Baybars), and Halis (I think).
Cihan: My men will be at the delivery point. He goes over to his desk.
Nadim: It’s still early, and I’m going out.
Cihan: No one else will be doing this, only Albora will be there.
Nadim: I don’t understand.
Cihan: Just like you heard, only the Albora men will know the hour and place of the handoff.
Nadim: Well, and what happens if they don’t deliver the merchandise?
Cihan: And if you betray me, what?
Nadim: Cihan, do you think I would do something like that? You never mentioned anything about this. The heads of family won’t accept this.
Cihan: And there isn’t a spy among you? Can you guarantee that?
Kaya: They can’t.
Cihan: As I said, only Albora will know the details, and if we are assaulted, the handoff will stop right away. In the morning, we will return the merchandise.
Nadim thinks for a bit and agrees: But, if this doesn’t work, you will be held responsible.
Nadim leaves.
Cihan: The only ones who will know the details are Kadir and Muzaffer and all who are in the room with me right now. No one else.
They all look at one another seriously.
Back at the konak, Alya starts to wake up from her chair. She sees that she missed a call. She gets dressed and wears a coat, calling for Deniz as she descends the stairs. Ummu tells her Sadakat took him to hunt birds. Alya reacts strongly to this and runs out to find them. Cihan and crew arrive at the konak, and Cihan runs out to the hunting site after her.
At the hunting site, there are hunters with guns, dogs, and dead birds. Deniz is watching through binoculars. Deniz shouts with pleasure when Sadakat hits a bird. Deniz wants to shoot, but Sadakat says first he has to learn how to shoot a gun. Sadakat is ready to teach him on the spot. Alya yells at her because Deniz had agreed not to be around guns. Sadakat speaks calmly at first, let me teach him how to use a firearm.
Alya yells no!
Sadakat: Are you trying to tell me how to treat my grandson? That is not your place.
Sadakat says to Cihan: This woman may be the mother of this boy, but he is my grandson, and he wants to shoot and I’m going to teach him.
Deniz: Yes, Mommy, I want to shoot!
Sadakat: I’m going to raise him like all the other Alboras.
Alya: No, my son. You said you wouldn’t touch another gun. You promised. [Do we know when he might have touched a gun? Perhaps it was in Canada?]
Sadakat: Are you going to tell me how to raise my grandson? (Cihan definitely rolls his eyes here!) I don’t ask permission, I take it. If you don’t like it, pack your bags and leave right now. If you’re going to stay, I will raise him like all the others.
Alya looks for help from Cihan, who looks truly torn.
He asks his mother to restrain herself.
Sadakat: If you want to stay, comply with your wifely duties and have a child.
Alya: Listen, if you are trying to run me out of town and keep my son, it’s not going to work.
Cihan to Sadakat: Cihan can’t return here (to the hunting site), mom.

I started lejos but am really far behind so I'm not even going to try to catch up. I miss commenting but taking a break isn't the worst thing either. The Univision/unimas dumping by You tube TV started my weaning process. I am watching Kara Para Ask, doing the 2 hour version so I have no idea how that translates to the number we are on. I am following a page with the episodes so it's easier to find again and if I stop before the episode ends it's suggested the next time I turn you tube on ....
In other news, my teeth are mostly done (except the implant and now a bridge as the root canal failed we had to do something else with a back molar) so I have a surgery date for the hip replacement. Dec 15th...and I been summoned for jury duty next week. My poor daughter and son in law are discovering the downside to Nana being the only babysitter. Fortunately my husband helps when he is available and working from home is an option. I chose Dec for the surgery as it minimizes the time they need to cover (Christmas vacation time between the two of them hopefully will cover most of my recovery time....
So I'm still reading these posts and haven't fallen off the face of the earth....
Episode 16 #5
Sadakat: He wanted to come with me.
Cihan: That doesn’t matter.
At the car Deniz is mad at his mother. She reminds him of what they had talked about regarding firearms.
Alya, not knowing what is else going down today, wants to get him ice cream and asks for security to go into town. Kaya and Muzzafer go with them. They might have had ice cream, but now they are in a veterinary hospital full of birds.
Alya to Deniz: I work in a hospital with people; here they work with animals. She takes him in to see the veterinarian working on a bird. “This doctor is trying to cure this bird and every other animal here. All beings have a right to live their lives in safety.” The vet lets Deniz feel the bird’s heartbeat. “We’re not so different from these animals.”
Deniz is looking more serious now.
Alya continues: We share our world with many beings. Do you remember the birds that were being shot? They had a right to be alive. They might have had a family and needed to return home.
Deniz: It’s OK, Mom. I won’t return to hunting ever.
Back at the konak, Cihan is sitting at his desk working on something intricate, perhaps repairing a watch. Alya says, I thought you were going to work with me about his education.
She tells him he is not complying with his promise. She can’t get him to pay attention, at first. Alya: My son, who wouldn’t hurt a fly, was applauding at the birds being hunted.”
Cihan: I promise to keep him away from firearms. But he will be growing up in this world. I will do everything I can so that he has a good education.
Alya: I took him to a veterinarian today, and he understood. I don’t want him to be someone without a soul like you.
She goes to leave.
Cihan: Where are you going?
Alya: What difference does it make?
Cihan: I’m trying to find a middle path.
Alya: Don’t threaten me.
She says she is going to a hospital in Midyat.
Cihan: Don’t bother, they won’t hire you. I have to approve it. I don’t want you to work in that hospital.
Alya: Really, why? What difference is there?
Cihan: It’s not a nice hospital.
She doesn’t take that for an answer: I looked it up and it’s a very good hospital.
She slams the door in his face. He is making fists with both hands.
Nare is on the street hoping to see Sahin, but he drives off in the other direction and his mother comes out and glares at her. Nare gets back in her car to drive off, but his mother Fidan stops her. How dare you come here? Leave my son in peace. Don’t you have any shame? You are pregnant. Stay away from him.
Mine is upset because she sees Alya waiting to see the medical director and calls Cihan.
Alya gets into the interview room and meets Dr. Dogan Selin, the new chief.
Kamil resigned today, says Demir, as he enters the room! Uh oh!
[The new doctor’s first name is Dogan, which is Mine’s last name. I wonder what that might mean?]
End of Episode 16
Babachita
Hi Kat! Glad you haven't fallen off the edge of the Earth! Your tooth journey sounds complicated, but maybe you'll be done by January. We are glad you are with us. I'm sorry you are having trouble keeping up with Lejos. It is very complicated. I spend much of my time trying to figure out names, etc, when doing a summary. I find the story fascinating. It hardly seems possible there are places like this, but the culture is very interesting. I'm still noticing how Sadakat has managed to accumulate so much power in a patriarchal society. I love the stark landscape, and the konaklar are lovely buildings.
If you are looking at KPA on You Tube, there are Spanish ones that are one hour, and ones that follow the original Turkish timeline. I think it was so popular, they have lots of versions from which to choose.
Babachita
Kat! I forgot about the hip!!! Here’s hoping that goes smoothly! You are very valiant taking all that on! I’m glad you got to take a break from recapping. Your recaps were great, but it can be exhausting.
I also lost the Univision and now the Disney-ABC-ESPN channels. This shows that the customers are not what’s important to the corporate folks. I can get Uni (not the other Uni channels) over the air. With commercials and no rewind or pause. That’s how I see Monteverde. I still have Telemundo. I’m watching Hilos on Vix Premium. It is all a big hassle. I enjoy Monteverde so much it’s worth the commercials. But, if I forget to turn it on, ooops! YouTube has some episodes but not all. I suspect they don’t want to provide a way around because why would they help us poor, hapless customers???!!! Grrrrrr!
Anyway, great to hear from you!
Babachita
Babachita - just fabulous! I read it very carefully. As you commented to Kat, this show is super complicated. All the names too, and who is aligned with who!
I don’t have time today to comment in detail, but uh oh, Demir! What’s he doing in a hospital meeting?
Maggie
So glad to hear from you! Your comments are very much missed. Boy, what a lot of medical stuff you have going on. Bummer! Best of luck with all of it!
Maggie
Kat in SC: Get well soon & come back to the CarayCaray Blogspot soon.
"CASILLAS"
Maggie, Babachita, Darcy, Jarifa, UA & Kirby: Looks like Leo got arrested by Cifuentes' crazed soldiers & gets aggressively roughed up, punched in the stomach more than once, etc.,
Meanwhile, Diana got shot by Crazy Victor & we see Isidro getting into the action as well, but he might be in danger unless Ismael & Co., rescue him ASAP.
Kat, we miss you. That surely is a bunch of issues with body parts all at once. I have an implant tooth, and it seemed to take forever. First, they put in a titanium screw. Then there's a long recovery before the fake tooth actually goes in. It was the holidays and, as was often the case, I was working late while everyone else had gone. Some vendor had gifted us a container of Almond Roca for Christmas. I bit into a piece and noticed something odd. "What? Almond Roca doesn't have nuts. It was one of my lower front teeth, broken off at the gumline! Fortunately, I didn't swallow it. I called my dentist. His service called him. I went in at 8AM and he glued the tooth in there somehow, so I didn't look like I'd been the loser in a fistfight. Then the periodontist went to work.
Monteverde looks interesting, I may have to see if I can get Uni. Monteverde looks interesting.
My husband was mad about losing ESPN. Since we don't actually pay for it (it's my daughter's plan we piggyback on since it allows 6 accounts) I can't complain to the company.
The scenery in lejos reminds me of our time living in Albuquerque and the NM/ Az landscape. This girl that grew up in new England did not much care for the barren red dirt.
Another stellar recap, Babachita.
I actually felt something, albeit pretty small, when Sada teared up and told Cihan how bad Ecmel is. She seemed to me to be saying to her son that it wasn't spite about being rejected by Ecmel, but something else. And, if we wonder from whence the skullduggery is coming, Ecmel seems to be in the middle of it all.
But Sadakat, why do you visit the sins of the father upon the children? Sahin is nothing like his father.
They said something about Sada waiting until Hasan was old enough to infiltrate Ecmel's operation, but he seems nearly the same age as Sada.
ITA about Aaarghh, Babachita. The first 8 or 10 episodes didn't have a theme song in Spanish. Guess it took them a while to find one that was crappy enough.
What? Demir took over the hospital where Mine works? It looks like they're trying to say he's going to force a job for Alya, presumably so he can continue trying to recruit her in his war against the Alboras. That twirling of some silver chain drives me nuts.
I'm getting tired of Alya refusing to sleep in the bed she'd, according to Cihan, agreed to sleep in.
Alya's taking Deniz to a vet was a perfect lesson for the boy.
Looks like Demir's plan to get the Alboras and his own father caught red handed is not going to work.
Part 1 of 3
We again see slimy Demir come into the room where Alya is meeting the new head of the hospital (placed there by Demir, who got rid of the other guy). Alya listens to Demir go on and on with a smirk on his face. Cihan walks in and gives Alya a piercing look, and Cihan and Alya walk out together.
Back at the konak, Cihan orders Alya not to take the ob/gyn job at that hospital. She replies that she will accept. He tells her she wouldn’t have gotten the job at all if the miserable Demir hadn’t been behind it. He also reminds her he offered to open a private clinic for her, but she declined.
Alya: “Why do you think I’d be working for him (Demir). I’d be working hard to be a great doctor and to earn what I deserve."
[Does everyone at this place wear a microphone?] Sada manages to overhear every conversation. She strides downstairs saying that Alya is an accomplice of Demir. Alya’s not backing down. She tells Sada that she’s observed all of the lives she’s ruined with her conspiracies and manipulations.
Sada calls her insolent and says that she’ll crush her. Deniz overhears some of this and is worried about the arguing. Alya rushes upstairs and takes him inside. Sada tells Cihan that that woman dared to attack her in her own home. “You shouldn’t have married her. Control her, or I will!” [I am beginning to tire of Cihan standing there with a frozen face and saying nothing to his mother’s threats.]
We get another drama at dinnertime. Sada: “Cihan, where is my grandson? “ Cihan tells Ummu to put another place setting on the table. Sada: “I don’t want you at this table.” Alya tells her they’ll be fine upstairs. Alya and Sada snarl at each other until Cihan yanks on the tablecloth, breaking lots of china. “¡Basta!” [Again, he just lets his mother refuse to allow his wife to eat with them.]
There’s another phone call with Ecmel and Demir. Ecmel is making sure Demir notified the police. Ecmel almost compliments Demir for betraying his own father.
The Albora men talk. They’ve discovered the “rat”, and the police are alerted. Cihan tells them to change the route. To go via Kamisli at 4 AM. [I don’t understand this. Kamisli looks very far from Midyat.] The driver is Necmi, the guy Cihan saved from the burning truck a while back.
Some Albora guys are watching the road behind a stone wall when sirens are heard. The truck Necmi is driving is apprehended. We see many boxes of something as cargo. We also overhear the cops saying it’s illegal cigarettes.
When Cihan comes home, Sada is lurking and says that Alya was the one who betrayed him. She yells up the stairs: “Aliye!” [This is the absurd name Sada decided to change Alya’s into.] Kaya continues to look disgusted at his mother’s behavior. Sada says she saw Alya on the stairs while the men were speaking about changing the route.
Part 2 of 3
Cihan goes up to Alya and asks her if she overheard Cihan and the other men talking. “Yes, I overheard! You’re a disgusting smuggler!” “You ratted me out!” After some back and forth she admits it. “The police needed to know about your crime.” She wants to know why he isn’t locked up. He says that what she did ruined him. He tells her to pack up and get out. “Cihan (Deniz) will stay and she will go.”
Alya says she’s in the right. They were moving weapons and drugs. She talks about the horrors of addiction. He replies that he never moves drugs. Alya says that her only desire is to bring up her son the right way, not leave him in the hands of monsters.
Cihan goes downstairs and lies. “No, she didn’t report us.” Sada: “This woman will be your perdition.”
When Cihan returns to, I think, go into the adjoining room to change clothes, Alya asks why he lied. He replies that he did it for Cihan (Deniz) and not for her. He already lost his father, and he doesn’t want him to lose her as well. But he says the next time she’ll get a bullet in the forehead, and he won’t say a word. [To me, what he means is that, if the clans found out what she did, they’d kill her.]
Alya calls the Canadian consulate and finds out that Deniz’s “replacement” passport isn’t ready. There’s a supply problem and the embassy isn’t doing emergency passports. She urges them to hurry. Sada walks up asking who Alya is speaking with. She then calls her a viper in their midst.
While driving in the car, Cihan admits to Kaya that it was Alya. He says she didn’t realize how serious it was. They’ve come to see Necmi in his cell. Necmi tells Cihan there was no way they could identify the truck. It wasn’t an Albora truck. He told them he was driving it without Cihan’s knowledge. He also says it’s his way to repay Cihan for saving his life. Cihan assures them Ecol will represent him.
Demir calls Ecmel to gloat and is told that he, Ecmel, had nothing to do with the truck being seized.
Cihan meets with the men we recently saw him make a deal with. [This is what I think Cihan meant about Alya ruining him. They were boycotting him until he arranged the deal to let some goods cross.] The old guy with a Santa Claus beard tells Cihan he has a traitor among his men. Cihan says they’re his family. Cihan says he knows who it was, and he’ll handle it. He assures them he’ll pay for their losses.
Cihan tells Alya sha can’t work in that hospital with Demir. “Why, is his money dirtier than yours?” Cihan: “My patience has limits.” He tells her he tried to do things (the cargo) in the cleanest way possible. He has obligations she’d never understand.
Ecmel drips poison into Sahin’s ear. Sahin isn’t falling for everything his father says. He asks who’s helping Demir. Ecmel lies, of course. He wants Sahin to kill Hasan, the one who put him behind bars.
Part 3 of 3
Sahin spies on the Alboras. He sees Hasan arrive. Hasan tells Cihan that there was una rebada (a raid) [I assume he means the thing that happened the night before.] Hasan says he’s come to help. He goes inside. Sahin starts yelling at Cihan. When he gets closer, he says he understands his letting Sadakat get away with her dirty dealings. But how could you let the traitor who put my father in prison enter your house. Cihan: “The door is also open for you. Come when you like.”
Kaya runs after his brother. He says he felt very badly in front of Sahin. How could Cihan let Hasan enter. Cihan says that Hasan might have betrayed them, but he seems more innocent in comparison to Uncle Ecmel.
Alya arrives at Mine’s office to report for work. Mine says she thought Alya would reconsider because of the bad blood between the Baybars and the Alboras. Alya assures her she’s not there to be a problem. She wants to work and to share her experience.
When Mine has taken her downstairs, Alya discovers Muzaffer there to guard him. Alya asks him please to leave. We see Demir lurking.
Alya meets the other doctors. All seems cordial. Nare shows up for a checkup. Mine shows Alya and Nare into what will be Alya’s office. Sadakat is inside, just sitting there. [Boy, this woman is getting on my last nerve.]
Dondi356: Ismael & Co., rescue Isidro. But the Casillas family are still facing full-scale attacks from all fronts.
Leonardo notices Chatarrero & I think Memo in the prison cell as well. It appears that General Cifuentes is determined to have ALL of the Casillas family in prison or worse.
Presidenta Carmela is well.... interesting.
I'm interested to see more of the dynamic of the Cifuentes family.
I'm so glad you checked in with us. We miss your recaps and comments. I hope all goes well for you.
Very late, but I want to thank Babachita and novelera for super recaps.
Babachita, in an early episode, Deniz found a gun in Kaya’s bedroom. The kid has felt the call of his homeland from the start. He’s a real Albora. Alya will have a hard time with him.
I checked the Turkish version and Cihan said “you had children” (çocuklar). He didn’t specify a number.
Cihan asked Sada if there was more to her history with Ecmel so it’s obvious there is more. IIRC, we thought there might be a child and now I’m expecting it. That child would be Boran since he’s Sada’s first born. Azem probably married Sada to save everyone’s honor. Ecmel might really be the devil, but we still don’t have the entire story.
We still don’t know if Boran’s death was a murder or an accident. Here’s a crockpot theory: maybe Boran faked his death?
Why does Telemundo deny us the original soundtrack? They played a snippet of it in the first episode, why not keep it as the theme song? Is it really that expensive or do they think we don’t want to hear Turkish music?
novelera, I’m getting tired of both Alya and Cihan. One never stops ranting and the other one stays silent. I did enjoy Cihan’s tablecloth trick, though. Cihan gave us somewhat of an explanation that he’s trying to walk a fine line between Sada and Alya, not to add fuel to the fire.
Wow, Demir invested in a majority share of the hospital just to screw with the Alboras.
Noverela – thank you so much for this excellent recap! Once again, I see that I missed some of the finer points. Important points!
Fascinating comments too. This TN really stresses me out but it certainly isn’t boring!
Cihan says he has obligations Alya will never understand. What are these? What do the Albora live on anyway? We see they have vast lands, but you can’t farm them, they’re just dry and empty. Why does Cihan see the need to allow contraband to pass through? I can’t imagine that’s a good source of income – it was just one truck. All these men plotting and scheming just to bring in some cigarettes?
I was thinking at least Demir put some money into the hospital which, yeah, was for his own power play, but at least it’s a form of philanthropy even if that wasn’t his intent. What good are these rich powerful families to their community?
Dondi – Fascinating thought that Boran might be a lovechild! Your crockpot theory is fun, that Boran might have faked his death, but I’m thinking it’s very hard to bring a body from another country and some inspection and heavy paperwork would have taken place in the process.
Wow, Sadakat sitting in Ayla’s doctor office chair at the end made my blood run cold.
Why doesn’t Alya take up Cihan on his offer to set up a private clinic for her? Why does she have to practice in a hospital?
Thank you Dondi for clarifying that Deniz had a previous gun encounter. All I could think of was Atilla’s toy gun with the flower!!! Wrong dizi! I’m obviously very confused! (And I still miss Atilla!!!)
I strongly expect Deniz to eventually break his promise to his mother. If he stays in Türkiye, he will need to learn about guns. Sadakat’s offer made sense, BUT she needs to work with Alya. Also, they could shoot targets or clay pigeons, to respect Alya’s wishes at least partially.
Love the crock pot speculation about Boran’s father. If Ecmel, Deniz would be from his line.
Wow! And we still wonder about Alya’s Turkish roots!! Sadakat is so fixated on keeping Deniz in Türkiye! Maybe this is part of all this, not just her contrary/hateful nature.
Too bad the translators can’t count! Why be specific when the original was not?
I hate the Spanish language music here, although I love music in Spanish generally. It just doesn't fit, although Aranjuez is from Spain, just to confuse things. The Adagio has a Moorish sound, also very much part of Spain, so why not leave that at least? And Turkish music is so beautiful and fits the culture. I wonder if other markets similarly replace the original soundtrack with their own music into programs dubbed into their languages.
Thanks for getting us started, Dondi!
Babachita
Oh my! Now I can’t stop thinking about the crockpot theory about Boran! Assuming they got the body through customs etc, we know they never opened the shroud after arrival in Türkiye. Sadakat sniffed and felt the face, however. Maybe she’s IN ON IT (!!!) and in doing this distracted anyone who might have wanted to open it at her end.
My mind is galloping now, Dondi and Maggie!
Babachita
Babachita, I so agree about the music. We’re in Turkey and should have their music to add to the atmosphere. We don’t need to understand the lyrics. What’s more these songs are all a yawn. I loved the Bahar theme song at least so I wasn’t super annoyed about it being used.
Maggie
Thanks for the kind words. I had a bit of a hard time with the recap. I understood nearly everything, but the culture is bothering me. In other dizis I've seen most of the female protagonists had good careers. Yes, Alya has one, but she's now trapped in a region where, seemingly, married women are meant to devote themselves to family and children.
dondi, I'm curious about how you knew Boran was the eldest. Looking at the video we saw he looked younger than Cihan. Of course, he was meant to have recorded that years before, but still.
Yes, Babachita, I'm also wondering how a Canadian with the surname Smith speaks perfect Turkish.
Maggie, great description: "This TN really stresses me out." I feel the same way. I keep waiting for a ray of sunshine, but no. Sadakat just about drives me nuts. You could ask my parents if they were still alive, how very independent I've been my whole life. Sadakat has been controlling and nasty all the way through. She rejected Alya from the very first. Why? This woman left her nice life and repatriated her husband's body. Does Sada just hate her because she's envious of Alya's life of freedom?
Maggie, I think Alya wants to practice in a hospital, or at least I would, for the camaraderie with other physicians. God knows, except for occasionally Nare, she gets no adult companionship in the Albora konak. Also, her patients in a Cihan arranged clinic would, I suspect, consist of people he'd screened first. She wants the full, messy spectrum of humanity. It's interesting that we have a second dizi in a row with a female physician.
Novelera, these are difficult to do. I don’t know why exactly, but it takes lots of concentration. I have a rough family tree with names, but I frequently have to erase and change!
Did you do Hercai? Was it this difficult to summarize? I watched some of it. It was similarly located in this part of Türkiye. Things there seem very traditional. I would think a woman doctor would be accepted at a hospital, but the women in this family seem really sheltered/sequestered. Yet, we saw these women out shopping and going to school. But always accompanied. I wonder if it’s always because of danger or also to keep them from getting too worldly and straying!
I had a chuckle at the idea of Dr Alya seeing patients with her bodyguards by her side!
Thanks for the great summaries!
