I apologize for not recapping the final two episodes until now, just a lot of stuff going on. These recaps will be abbreviated but hopefully I won’t miss the real important stuff because a lot went on!
Off topic: I want to thank everyone for being patient and kind about the recaps, it was an honor to do them and even with some of the developments I didn’t like, I still thought this was a great novela and I’m glad that it has been covered here, for future Spanish students to enjoy.
I wanted to reminisce about how I first found CarayCaray in 2010 during “Soy tu dueña” with my faded bad High School Spanish. The only reason I stuck with telenovelas and kept following them on Univision was because of CarayCaray. At the time, Univision only had Spanish CCs and my Spanish was so poor I never would have kept up with the stories if I was watching them on my own.
I’m telling you this because for the next almost two years, I did very little formal Spanish studies, it was just Univision and CarayCaray. Lots of listening. I felt completely unable to understand anything without closed captions. But that was okay, I had CarayCaray!
At the end of 2011, I tried watching a preview episode of “La que no podía amar” online. It wasn’t showing in the USA at that point. No subtitles. I thought I’d see a bit and then wait for it to show on TV so I could used CCs. However, I kept going. I was shocked by how much I understood! It wasn’t too impressive (I still missed a lot), but it was enough to get the “gist” if the story and follow along without being completely lost. I had no idea I could do that. Improvement and comprehension “snuck up” on me!
Any improvements I made were all from watching novelas. There was no “studying” involved. I had no idea that I had begun to develop an “ear” for Spanish, it was all so gradual.
I’m saying this to encourage anyone who is more of a beginner in Spanish - keep going. You have now idea how much watching content like this will help you down the road.
I honestly didn’t think I’d improved my Spanish at all for that time period. I was just having fun.
With Domenica I learned a lot of new words that will stick with me. Each novela teaches increases my vocabulary. It’s amazing.
That’s my Ted Talk, lol, now I’m going to start the recap! Nos vemos!
Elvira
Part One
We return to Domenica telling Luis that she’s expecting Max’s baby, but she doesn’t lead with the rape. When stupid Luis assumes that she had, let’s say, reconciled with Max, she says, “No, don’t put words into my mouth.” But does Luis stick around and listen? Oh, hell no! He slinks off to pout.
Domenica is, again, sick of his crap. When she tells Padrino that it’s all off again, he kind of rolls his head like, “not this AGAIN.”
Meanwhile, Gabriel is willing to spill the beans and reveal all the secrets he’s been keeping - but first he tells the police and the Black Widow that Max’s murder weapon ended up with Kiara! Vaya! Black Widow finds thus all fascinating m, so they want to find Kiara.
Genaro got nasty pesticide spilled over him when he found Omar and Pánfilo (Replacment for Roque) planning on poisoning Domenica’s coffee crop. He needs to find “someone to blame” for this poisoning attempt, so he shoots and kills Pánfilo in the back so all the blame is pinned on him. “You win some, you lose some.”
Genaro runs to the hacienda to inform Domenica and everyone there that he shot Pánfilo and was protecting the hacienda. He has to be taken in to jail and questioned there. He’s locked up there for awhile. Eventually Ernesto (Cute Lawyer) gets him out.
In the midst of all this, Gabriel has told Hermenia, gossip lady, that their divorce will not yield her any economic help — all the properties they worked, actually belonged to Genaro, so if they want to escape Genaro m, they give up everything. He believes their hard work elevated the cantina, etc, so it wasn’t “dirty money,” but Herminia still doesn’t like it.
Gabriel comes clean and reveals all the dirty dealings of his, Cosme’s, and Genaro crimes. There’s a lot to reveal!
Luis is bitter and feels like a fool for trusting Domenica when she obviously “never forgot about Max.” He pouts and cries to San Genis, who also doesn’t understand what’s going on.
Luis is also able to rip into Mercedes, now that everyone knows that Kiara is a snake in the grass. Mercedes initially tries to find some excuse to explain Kiara, but she really can’t. Luis tells her, “Domenica never was your real enemy, it was Kiara.” Mercedes looks confused but also chagrined when he shows her an incriminating video that Tia uploaded to the cloud. “I suppose you’re going to return to Domenica,” she says. He replies that he’s not sure of anything.
Luis leaves for something, so Mercedes is all alone when Kiara comes into the house, begging for help, swearing innocence. Mercedes immediately offers her a nice bedroom with a bath, tells Kiara she’ll help her, encourages her to relax, says, don’t worry about money, I can take care if — the while thing. Kiara acts grateful but rolls her eyes in ingratitude as Mercedes heads out of the bedroom. Then all of a sudden Kiara hears a lock being secured on her door and demands to be let out! Ooos, turns out that Mercedes isn’t as blinded to the truth as we all assumed. She yells at Kiara through the door that she’s turning in Kiara to the police, and that if Max wants to marry Domenica, that’s great! Better than a lying liar who lies like Kiara!
End of part one! More coming in the late afternoon, probably.
I felt disappointed like I was after last season of Game of Thrones.
Writers and director ruined an excellent novela with last 6 episodes. Only exception is episode 48, which was great.

Elvira, I liked your Ted talk. I discovered caray caray 3 years ago. I can't recall which telenovela I was struggling through at the time but I found old recaps if it and the rest was history. Like you, I rely on the CCS in Spanish a lot, but if the timing is out I'd sync I turn them off, and I also am amazed at how much I've learned in 3 years. My formal Spanish was a quarter of Spanish in college which I took p/f as I was also taking a higher level French course. I got the 2 languages so confused, struggled, got an incomplete as spring break rolled around and my mother and grandmother were literally dying (grandmother from lung cancer on a Tuesday of my spring break, my mother from leukemia 24 hours later). I took the final when I returned and luckily passed.
My formal Spanish education has been via Duolingo. But potranca isn't found in that course! That word will stick with me as I have a mare who in her youth would have been a potranca....
Now to Domenica, I didn't realize that Genero actually owned all of Gabriel's properties he manages. I just thought Genero was blackmailing him for money. Your explanation makes more sense. I was a bit confused about paniflo also. And the premise that one guy was going to manage to poison all those fields of coffee at night was a bit far fetched. I guess technically there were 2 guys, but the first one ran off. Both of those guys I never sorted out their names or who they actually worked for but that plot wasn't a driving force of the show.
Elvira , thank you for recapping faithfully to the bitter end . I had such high hopes for this show....Angelique Boyer , Scarlet Gruber, Alberto Estrellas , and many Other excellent actors and actresses , the beautiful haciendas , the gorgeous horses , the scenery .I wonder if Angelique had high hopes, too.
Nobody liked the guy playing Max who had people shooting at him for most of the show . ...we didn't care .
The writers did not create A noble galan.Luis was wishy washy and didn't deserve Dominica . Pedro was more of a galan than Luis . Back in the day , the Galan was good guy, a heroe who stayed true to his one true love.
I don't know what happened . Did the writers have a completed story before filming started , or were the writers doing some last minute , stream of consciousness storytelling as they wandered along ? I blame the writers because with that cast, we should have gotten a great show, but the writers did a disservice to the excellent cast .
The finale was bizarre. Dom finally gets large and in charge which was risky business at this point because Kiki has gone completely BSC. Kiki is rejected by all...yay. Then Mercedes tricks her and locks her in that bedroom , but we know she will slither out ...she's on the roof ..then she escapes .Dom foolishly keeps going after her alone ..dumb ... she goes over the cliff ...she's dead...no she's alive ...now she's really dead...no she isn't . Lazy, silly writing . Susan
Susan: I only watched it because of Scarlet Gruber & that's it.
Being honest: If this Telenovela had been on Telemundo, it would've been a Super Series with Whacky Kiara as the lead character wreaking havoc LOL.
The word is out that Kiara is a suspect in Max’s murder. Tia doesn’t want to believe Kiara has sunk that low. Padrino replies that things are pointing in that direction.
When Genaro still is in jail, Black Widow visits him and castigates him for killing Pánfilo, calling him a “vile murderer.” “Look who’s talking,” Genaro replies, “The Black Widow of Santa Teresa.” He says he’s going to call the shots on how they’ll run their “businesses”
when it pertains to Domenica’s hacienda.
Ernesto arrives at the jail to spring Genaro. Black Widow says it’s “self defense” and Genaro remarks that it’s “the least I can do to protect the property of my patrona.”
Ernesto is giving Genaro a ride back to the hacienda, but Genaro asks to be let off partway home, in the middle of el campo. He says he’s been cooped up in jail and would like a walk, besides, a friend lives nearby and prepares great meals. Ernesto bids him goodbye with no worries.
Osvaldo intercepts Genaro, warns him that Prudencio and Pedro are onto him, and that he dare not return to the hacienda. Osvaldo went through Genaro’s stuff and got him some cash and also his pistola. Genaro is pissed that Osvaldo didn’t burn some of the evidence left in his quarters, but too late now.
Osvaldo is to lure Pedro out to the middle of nowhere so that Genaro can pick him off from a distance. Osvaldo does this, claiming that he saw Genaro walking out somewhere, and that this is their chance to bring him in. Pedro follows Osvaldo.
Meanwhile, Domenica and Godfather (Padrino) have come to the police station to sign paperwork, I think relating to Genaro. She sees Luis at the station too, but shoots him a look, sick of his crap. While still at the police station, Domenica explains why she’s had it with Luis , also explaining that Max’s rape bore fruit, or rather, she’s pregnant. Meanwhile, Luis overhears this, finally his thick head connects all the dots, he apologizes to her, hugs and comforts her, and assures her he’s there for her.
Mercedes calls Luis to tell him that she’s got Kiara locked up in a bedroom at the hacienda and the police are in the way. Unfortunately, when everyone else gets there, it turns out Kiara found a way to fly the coop, and shimmied out a window.
End part two! More to come in a few hours!
I’m getting things a bit out of order — the final nail in the coffin for Genaro was when Prudencio and Pedro are going through Genaro’s things, and find a receipt for some fictional chemical/pesticide and realize it’s the same stuff that was used to kill Luis’s bean crop. This is the receipt that got hidden behind some furniture a while back when Genaro was all liquored up and he didn’t remove it like he should have.
Luis and Domenica reconcile, again. They’ll marry and raise the kid together. In the eyes of the world, this baby will be Luis’s kid. Yadda yadda yadda, happy happy joy joy. Luis tells San Genis what happened because he knows San Genis will never tell anyone.
Pedro calls Domenica, still at the police station - too late, Genaro already left with Ernesto. As already mentioned, Genaro gets a ride halfway home and then decided to walk the rest of the way, where he meets up with Osvaldo, etc. Osvaldo had learned the latest news about how everyone is looking for Genaro from some of the workers in the field, and that’s why he had decided to go to Genaro’s room and gets his gun and cash, etc.
Simon is waiting for Adelaida at a bus station - he slept overnight at a park (?) waiting for her, and is a mess. She is pleased to see him, tells him she’ll “explain later” why she’s not going to the city for a new job, and the happily reconcile with some chaste kisses and return to the hacienda.
Hermenia comes to see Domenica, with Gabriel in tow, to spill all the dirt about what Genaro, Black Widow, etc, have been up to. Hermenia’s new thing now is to repeatedly say that Gabriel and her are no longer married. Several times she tells people this, while Gabriel looks awkward.
After Luis and Mercedes discover that Kiara flew the coop, Mercedes confesses that she collaborated with Kiara to separate Domenica and Luis. Mercedes is very sorry and realizes how deceived she was by Kiara. He tells her that a lot of the crap that she thought Domenica did - it was Genaro all along. This is “too much” for Mercedes - she needs to get her pills.
At the city hall, Ernesto and Blanca are chatting with Black Widow. Ernesto gets a call which he takes privately. Turns out he was told that Black Widow needs to be arrested. Ernesto invites Black Widow breakfast with Blanca and him at the restaurant (she happily agrees), he flatters her and kills time with her as Blanca looks at him confused, and finally the police come to arrest her. Much to her shock! Blanca is shocked too - she couldn’t figure out why Ernesto was flirting with Blsck Widow like that!
Osvaldo, after telling Genaro that everyone is looking for him, returns to the hacienda and tells Pedro that he saw Genaro by the corn crops. Osvaldo says doesn’t want to get mixed up with Genaro’s crimes, blah blah. He leads Pedro out, alone, to “show” him where Genaro is. Meanwhile we see that Kiara is hiding out at Domenica’s hacienda.
When Domenica and Prudencio are told that Pedro left to look for Genaro at the corn fields, they chase after him - they want to confront Genaro too.
Mercedes knows that Domenica is going to give her a grandkid, she wants to smooth things over and apologize to Domenica. Diana is so glad to hear this. Mercedes heads out in her vehicle to visit Domenica.
Pedro is naively following Osvaldo out in the boonies to supposedly confront Genaro. Genaro is hiding up in a high spot waiting to pick Pedro off with his pistola.
End part 3
Kiara busts into Tia’s room, hits (slashes) Padrino’s head with something heavy, he’s knocked out, she threatens Tia and demands money and anything valuable. She also steals Padrino’s gun. Padrino’s is okay, Nana fixes him up with a first aid kit. Turns out the gun that Kiara stole is busted, “with not serve anything,” as Padrino says, but Kiara doesn’t know that!
Bad timing all around. Just as Genaro is getting in position to pick off Pedro, Mercedes drives up on her way to Domenica’s place and offers him a ride. He calls her “señora” and doesn’t have time for this - he thinks he’s gonna nab Genaro. Mercedes is standing by Pedro when something catches her eye - it’s Genaro aiming to shoot Pedro. She runs in front of him and takes the bullet in her stomach.
Poor Pedro is cradling Mercedes in his arms, crying, saying she shouldn’t have done that. Genaro approaches Pedro to execute him up close. Pedro just looks at him with sad eyes. Before Genaro can shoot, Prudencio whacks Genaro’s shooting arm real bad with either a shovel or something. Genaro screams like a baby and holds his messed up, bloody arm. Later Genaro, whimpering, is taken into custody with no protest.
Luis catches Kiara at the Hacienda - she pulls the gun on him. She makes him kneel with his hands up and then, since she knows she can’t pretend not to be crazy and evil anymore, tells Luis smugly that SHE was the one who hit his sister in law and caused the death of his unborn child. He’s so mad he lashes out and knocks the gun from her, there’s a tussle, she escapes.
Everyone goes into hyperdrive to help Mercedes - finally getting Luis on the phone. Meanwhile, Mercedes is able to say all those touching dying words - she tells Domenica to make her son happy, talks about the grandchild. Apologizes for believing Kiara, asks for forgiveness, which of course is granted. She confirms that Pedro forgave Prudencio; she’s glad to hear it. Pedro tells her she shouldn’t have taken the bullet for him because he’s a “Don Nadie” but of course she tells him that he’s a wonderful person. Luis gets there in time to have some touching final words and then Mercedes dies.
Gabriel and Herminia bring Osvaldo to justice. Osvaldo thinks they should let him go, but of course that won’t do. Gabriel forces some tough love on Osvaldo - he’s going to jail and face the consequences.
Little Rosita sees Kiara with her gun and is freaked out. Kiara looks like she almost considers shooting Rosita but just runs off instead. Domenica drives by moments later and Rosita tells her which direction she saw Kiara heading. Meanwhile Luis is also alerted to where Kiara’s heading - it’s some abandoned place (maybe mining?) with caution signs blocking the road. It leads up to a cliff with a steep drop. You see where this is going.
Domenica is chasing after Kiara, which seems dumb to me considering she’s pregnant. They have their big confrontation as Kiara stands close to the cliff edge. Blah blah, you always got everything, Domenica! No, I was never competing with you, you lunatic! Etc etc. Kiara thinks that she can get the final word by killing Domenica with her gun - but as Padrino said, it doesn’t serve. She pulls the trigger and it just fizzles out.
There’s a tussle at the edge of the cliff, with Domenica holding onto Kiara’s hands as she dangles over the edge. Kiara decides she “wins” this time, by letting go and falling to her presumed death. Domenica cries in anguish as Luis appears (having followed them there) to comfort her. Then Domenica feels pain or a cramp or something, and there’s blood! “Oh no! My baby!” Luis hugs her and says he’s sorry.
Later at the hospital, it’s confirmed that Domenica lost the baby. Luis is there for her - they’ll get through this together.
End part 4
Mercedes’ funeral. Everyone who had disagreements reconciles - Pedro and Simon shake hands and are friends again. Nieves and Adelaida become friends too - why not? They’re both happy with the guys they got. Luis is utterly shattered by his Mom’s death. Pedro has deep regret about losing “Mercedita”. Prudencio comforts Pedro that Mercedes died happy and forgiven, she understood her mistakes, etc. Nana talks to Mercedes’ coffin, grateful to have her Prince Charming with her now, after all these years. Diana is grieving - even though Mercedes could be difficult sometimes, she misses her terribly and says tending to the practical tasks at the funeral are her way of serving her patrona one last time.
At the police station or city hall, Black Widow is formally charged (I think). She says the thing she regrets is losing her gordito, Cosme, because he loved her and wasn’t useless like the other guys she had around her later. Gabriel, who was her accuser, says he regrets losing a marriage of 20 years, having a son in prison, and he’s not going to see his other kids either.
Osvaldo has a tearful goodbye with his mom before he’s hauled off to the slammer. San Genis assures Hermenia that he’ll make sure Osvaldo gets a fair sentence. Gabriel misses our on being able to say goodbye to Osvaldo - doesn’t get outside in time but sees Osvaldo’s car drive off.
Gina and San Genis are able to capture Omar as he’s trying to escape. Gina trips Omar as he tries to run, and San Genis is so impressed he calls her his “heroine” and gives her a big kiss.
Domenica is at the ciudad de Mexico, visiting someone - turns out it’s Kiara in a hospital bed, paralyzed from the neck down. It’s all Domenica’s fault, of course. Domenica asks Kiara why she wanted Domenica to visit - Kiara says, to tell you that I still “win,” I get to torment you about losing Luis’s baby! “Oh, no” Domenica replies, “that wasn’t Luis’s baby, but Max’s.” Kiara is BIG mad, screams that Domenica is a liar. Domenica is tired of it all, tells her that she intends to give Kiara the thing she hates most - compassion.
Genaro is recovering in a hospital - he had to have his shooting arm amputated! Oh shucks, such a pity. Nieves visits him and says she doesn’t think she’ll be visiting him in prison. He may have been her uncle, but he could be abusive. Genaro is obsessed with Domenica, wants to see her, if not that, he wants Nieves to give him a photo of Domenica, her perfume, something! What a weirdo! Nieves leaves him, saying “take care or not, it doesn’t matter to me.” I think she was hoping he’d be repentant, but he wasn’t. He cries in anguish.
Tia visits Kiara - Kiara wishes Tia would kill her, but Tia won’t do that of course. She’ll always be there for Kiara. Kiara doesn’t care. She’s condemned to being in prison, paralyzed.
YEARS LATER (though they don’t say that). Luis and Domenica have a young daughter. They combined their haciendas into a big one called Hacienda del encanto. Happy happy joy joy.
We see that Pedro and Nieves have kids, and Pedro has his eyes on politics.
Hermenia still isn’t married to Gabriel and still makes sure everyone knows they’re not married. Osvaldo gets out of prison early on good behavior. He has grown a beard and seems like less of a turd. Little Lalo (youngest son of Gabriel and Hermenia) is a teenager and dating Rosita! Maria is moving forward with her medical career aspirations.
Ernesto and Blanca adopted a couple of “older” orphans (they look maybe 12-13 years old). Prudencio is teaching some sort of class or school that is somehow related to Nescafé - even Cesar Evora makes an appearance as the Nescafé rep - I didn’t catch it all but it’s all a big ad for how awesome Nescafé is working to grow better crops or collaborating with haciendas to be more productive and higher quality.
Tia and Godfather visit Kiara at the cemetery or mausoleum - it seems she died “three years ago” and the date of her death is 2029. She never asked for forgiveness and never apologized. Tia comforts herself thar she still has her “other kids” - Domenica and Ernesto.
We end the novela with Luis and Domenica talking about how perfect everything is. Domenica reminisces in her mind about being a kid and with her mom. She “sees” her mom at the courtyard down below, and her mom “looks” up at her, and then we have FIN.
Part 6 of 6: I may have forgotten bits, I’ll add them later if so!
Thanks Elvira for amazing work.
Writers ruined novela with last 6 episodes, especially with rape - pregnancy plot and stupid forceful ending. It could have been so much better with at least 5 more episodes for resolving things.
Episode 48 was great though.
Main couple didn't have two episodes of happiness in a row ...
Nieves didn't tell anyone about Kiara-Genaro relationship?

I would like to thank Jarifa for her marvelous recaps this week. All were incredible (as always). I thank you Jarifa for all you do to enhance and explain all that I cannot interpret. How fortunate we are to be the recipients of your time and talent.
I am finishing up last night's recap and will post it shortly.

Almost but not quite boda interrumpida
The confrontation between Erika, Corina and Oscar continues. Corina wants money from me Oscar grumbles angrily as Erika stares. Erika manages to drag her mother away as Oscar’s eyes emit daggers. Are you crazy demanding money from Oscar Erika asks. Corina has dollar signs and delusions of grandeur in her eyes as she waves her arms talking about the ranch, the house, oh and the money! Por Dios Erika says in the face her mother’s greed and ambition. Corina continues to tell her to take advantage of the opportunity. Erika implores her mother to remember she thought her son was dead. This all falls on deaf ears, Corina wants the money honey. Erika wants a family and love. She has heard enough as she tells Corina to leave and never come back. Corina ignores her, continuing to push before she walks off.
Rosalia arrives home and Lucas asks what’ s wrong. She is preoccupied…Lucas then tells her about Oscar’s offer. He and Franco will be responsible for the ranch – together. He is clearly thrilled. He will be with his brothers, Moises and Franco. Rosalia is happy as Lucas smiles delightedly. Monteverde it is as they hug.
Oscar confronts Erika. She emotionally tells him she has nothing to do with her mother’s actions. She is passionate when she argues that Moises is her life. Moises is happy Oscar admits. Por favor she begs…Oscar gives in and she thanks him. He opens the door so she can leave but he looks grim.
We see Sara at her veterinary practice working on an adorable dog. She confides in a coworker, spewing the lies she had been fed by Carlos, showing her a picture of Carolina in jail!
The baby is here! Franco is beaming as he calls Oscar who reacts similarly. Oscar wants pictures!
I believe Lucia received her test results on her phone which she handed to Rosalia. I can’t interpret except that she seems to confirm it is cancer and that Rosalia seems to offer a bit of hope (?) Rosalia hugs her friend with sympathy and support.
Oscar calls Carolina who seems surprised that Erika is involved with her mother’s machinations. Corina has no scruples Oscar insists. Carolina tells him to calm down and even gets him to smile a bit. She wants him to come to the convent; he is too busy.
One week later, Lucas and Oscar talk about Lucas’ new position. Oscar gives him papers and father and son hug.
Long-suffering Father Gabriel is clearly under stress.
Diana
Oscar’s bag is packed; he is clearly taking off on an adventure! Wherever could he be going I wonder?? 😊 He bids Moises and Andres goodbye as they talk about Juanita’s boda. Erika comes up with her eyes around the boys.
Juan David, Angelina and Father Gabriel are taking a road trip as they talk about Juan David’s quest to become the president of the municipality as Father Gabriel and Adriana clap in support. Juan David signs papers and it appears that Father Gabriel has done the blessing of the just up and running internet service.
It is Juanita and Hugo’s wedding day! Juanita looks beautiful! She is wearing her hair up, a large pearl barrette clipped to the side, soft curls cascading down her neck. She wears an off the shoulder white gown with two straps. She wears earrings and a single diamond pendant necklace. The women echo how lovely she looks. For a brief moment, attention is diverted to the newly functioning cell service as the women start taking selfies. Juanita sweetly reminds them that this is her wedding day and everyone immediately puts their phones away, looking a bit chastised.
Oscar is at the bus stop when he makes one of several calls to Carolina. She tells him to take lots of photos of the wedding! He smilingly agrees.
Carolina calls an emotional Juanita who is happy to hear from her. Carolina wishes her the utmost happiness.
Father is in his white vestments but for a moment, seems to have difficulty breathing. Juanita carries a pretty bouquet of pink and white roses. Celeste congratulates her.
Hugo looks so handsome in his grey suit, bow tie and black vest. Hawt, hawt, hawt is all I can muster. (Here’s hoping his hideous black and white check jacket never returns!)
Everyone including Rosalia and Lucas, Lucia, Moises, Andres and others gather outside the church, Manuel looking sharp in his blue suit. Outside the church, the father seems to falter a bit, stumbling as Juan David catches him. Father Gabriel then hurries into the church. Manuel has a kind word and best wishes for the lovely bride as she takes his arm. The wedding march begins as they walk down the aisle, toward handsome Hugo waiting at the altar. Manuel brings Juanita to her almost husband. You look hermosa Hugo says, eyes moist and glowing with love.
Father Gabriel begins the ceremony as he smiles, talking about Project Genesis…
Oscar is on the bus as he talks to Carolina. The passenger next to him starts coughing which clearly alerts her but Oscar seems to explain things away. She asks him again to send him lots of pictures saying she will see him soon.
Diana
Father Gabriel’s speech seems more hesitant as beads of sweat are clearly visible on his brow. He then begins the vows with Hugo replying he accepts. However, as he tries to complete Juanita’s vows, he keels over and falls on the floor! Juan David, Hugo and Cárcamo gently help him to a pew as Rosalia rushes forward. Gloria, who has no filter, starts complaining. The men carry the father out. We next see he has been put in bed a bit delirious as he continues the sacrament of marriage, talking to himself. Rosalia is there with him.
Naturally, Hugo and Juanita are beside themselves. Rosalia explains he will need a few days to recuperate (she better have been darn sure he didn’t need to be hospitalized which would have been my non-medical opinion but what do I know?). I believe Rosalia says the wedding will need to be cancelled.
Hugo and Juanita come out and address the crowd about Father Gabriel; everyone is sympathetic. The not quite newlywed bride adjourns to the inn for coffee with the women. They pray for Father Gabiel.
The men are at Manuel’s restaurant; he is trying to comfort Hugo. The wedding feast has been prepared, tables set and the food ready. Moises and Andres run up to the food table and are later snuck sammies by Erika. The men are getting hungry as Lucas and Cárcamo both surreptitiously steal a sandwich. Hugo leaves.
As Juan David and Angelina look on, Rosalia asks the good padre to breathe in and out. Hugo comes in and Father Gabriel apologizes. Hugo wants him to finish the ceremony as Rosalia monitors his blood pressure.
Hugo bursts into the inn telling Juanita Father Gabriel is going to marry them! They kiss as her bridal veil is reattached as they run out.
Oscar is still on the bus as he calls Carolina. How are the novios she asks. Happy he lies. She asks about Moises and Andres and Oscar tells her they are with Lucas. What about the pictures she asks? He continues his white lies as she sends him a beso. He hangs up and smiles.
Poor Father Gabriel is sitting up in a chair, far from the picture of health as the couple comes in followed by a crowd. Juan David requests the crowd filter out which they do leaving only Rosalia, Celeste, Juan David and Angelina. Gloria and Manuel join the group. All of a sudden, Father Gabriel seems to fall forward in his chair, however he is not deterred. He asks each of them their vows which both Juanita and Hugo answer. He then declares them husband and wife telling Hugo he can kiss his bride. He does so, with a bit of a flourish, dipping Juanita. Are you sure you are all right Rosalia asks him? The happy couple arrive at the inn to much applause and excitement. They kiss, not for the first and far from the last as they begin their lives, united in love.
Love triumphs over sickness and health!
Oscar is on a mission…I can’t wait to see what happens…
Poor Lucia…
Despite some happiness, Corina and Sara’s presence are casting a dark shadow…
Diana
Elvira, wow, you did an excellent job of recapping the finale . I figured out a lot by the visual, but you made every crazy detail clear as the the writers scrambled to wrap all the wild storylines up in one neat package of karma anvils for the major and minor villains and happyhappyjoyjoyforbthe good guys.
I think Prudencio might have hit Genero's shooting arm with a machete.
I wish I could remember if those scenes had corn fields because I grew up on a farm with acres of corn and potato fields . Corn grows very high , so I guess we had "Children of the Corn " scenes ( wasn't that an old, creepy movie ) of BSC Kiki popping in and out of the corn stalks terrorizing poor, little Rosita.
It looked like Rosta's dad had his bad leg fixed . All the younguns grew up and got paired up.
One of my favorite scenes was Gina capturing evil , old Omar ...by tripping him . End scene. So...did Gina end up with Luis's annoying lawyer friend . There we're a lot of lawyers frantically pursuing a lot of women. Susan
Thanks Diana. Hope you had a nice week.away with family, and the patient is recovering well
As father keels over I noticed initially Rosalia backs away as they exit the pees. Then she had to fight her way through the gang. So silly as the only doctor you bet they should have been calling for her aid. Like you, I suspected a heart attack and couldn't believe he wasn't sent to a hospital. I guess she has an X-ray machine so hopefully she ruled that out. Pretty sure father collapsed due to stress. I thought Hugo was a bit selfish insisting that father complete the wedding, but at least he didn't die on them look the old priest at Gloria's wedding.
I can't believe Oscar is heading to Mexico City, and I can't believe he keeps taking the bus there! He can't protect Andres very well from how ever far it is away. My husband and I routinely take 500 mile trips in our car so I don't understand why he doesn't just drive there. Have we determined how far monteverde is from the big city?
Thanks Kat.
Yes, stress was definitely a factor in the good padre's "episode". He should have been sent to the hospital without a doubt. I hate to criticize "my" Hugo but even though he was so disappointed, he should have put the father's welfare first. "...but at least he did't die on them" was a small relief :) but they definitely should have waited.
I was very surprised that Oscar would take the trip especially as they know Carlos is lurking about! I like Franco but he isn't exactly security personified. This is when you need Nestor around (I wonder again if he and Eva ARE ever coming back??).
Diana
Thanks Diana, and welcome home! Father Gabriel was suffering from stress, even before the wedding day! He probably went from a pretty relaxed life to tons of people coming in with problems and wanting advice. He already was wanting the wedding date changed, or the internet pole! Poor guy!
Erika’s mother is horrible. I hope we don’t see her again but we probably will. I hope Erika can hold her own against the woman, I’d hate if the mother started influencing Erika’s decision to let Moises continue living with Oscar. I was hoping the other vet would talk some sense into Sarah. Since she couldn’t, I hope Sarah realizes the truth about Carlos before she helps him kidnap Andres.
Diana, it was my pleasure. Thank you for your latest recap. Loved your descriptions. You have a real knack for writing.
Oscar tells Corina that she and Erika can go, or he will call the police. (Whoa!!)
Corina pokes Erika in the head repeatedly, as only a wicked witch of a mother can do and tells her to wake up. (I admit I had to laugh at that one.) Having no luck in talking her daughter into going for the $$, Corina tells her , referring to herself: "Más sabe el diablo por viejo que por diablo." (The devil knows more because he is old than because he is the devil. )
Erika tells Oscar he will never see her mother again. (Let us hope Corina agrees to that) He agrees to let her stay but if he sees anything that raises his doubts about what she said, she is out.
Sara tells her co-worker that she is not going to Monteverde. Carlos says the detective told him that his child is not there any longer. Her co-worker is not convinced that Sara should be believing Carlos tells her hook, lie and sinker.
Sara says she is no fool and did some investigating herself. She shows her an article proclaiming Carolina, Carlos' wife, a criminal!
Lucía was afraid to look at the test results herself. That is why she has come to see Rosalía. Rosalía explains that the exams show a type of cancerous tissue in her right breast. Rosalía tells her t not get upset because not all cases of cancer are the same in terms of how serious they are. There are many of possibilities to eradicate it if it is caught time. She needs to meet with her doctor ASAP who will refer her to an oncologist who will indicate the appropriate treatment. When she receives her treatment plan, she needs to follow it very precisely. Lucía is afraid. Rosalía will be with her the whole way and assures her that she will come out okay.
Carolina reminds Oscar that Erika has never given him any reasons to doubt her. Oscar is really worried about her mother who is truly a woman who is capable of anything to profit from the situation. Carolina is convinced that Erika cannot be talked into a custody fight with him. Erika knows been the best father in the world to Moisés and that she would be the one on the losing end.
Oscar is grateful to her for always being able to tell him exactly what he needs to hear to calm him down and stop him from worrying. She laughs and tells him it must because she is so enchanting! He has to agree to that! She is grateful that he trusts her enough to share things with her and he is grateful that she is there to listen to him so patiently. If they were only together. She asks if he can come and visit her. He says not this week. There is too much going on. She asks about next week?
The next week, Lucas tells his father that he is gong to be out of town when all of the action is going on. The installment of the antenna and the wedding. Oscar insists he has to go to Arteaga. Oscar isn't too sure about the antenna. Everyone now will be stuck on their cellphones and not communicating in person with each other. Like it or not, technology is taking over. He gives Lucas everything he has to take care of with all of the payments that need to be made. In a drawer of his desk, he has left envelopes with cash in them noting what each is for. Lucas asks why he is going to Arteaga. Oscar answers to a cattle fair. Lucas thought that those only happened in September. Oscar doesn't know how he is supposed to know. He doesn't organize the fairs. (Oscar almost got caught in his lie) He tell Lucas to take car of the boys. Lucas tells him not to worry. He will not take an eye off of them.
Juan David tells his uncle he doesn't understand why he is driving himself crazy with the antenna. The overwrought good priest tells Juan David that if he doesn't bless the antenna, he will not be at peace!!!
Oscar leaves Lucas in charge. Erika will take charge of taking the boys to the wedding.
Rosalía checks the good father's vital signs and they are all in line but she will need him to be taken to her office to really check him out. They decide to take him to his home instead.
When in his own bed and delirious, Rosalía says his blood pressure is a bit low but nothing to be concerned about. She diagnoses him with a severe case of acute stress disorder. He needs strict bed rest for a couple of days at least.
As far as marrying Juanita and Hugo, Rosalía says they should give the good father a couple of hours and hen see how the good father is feeling.
Gloria is getting tired of waiting! ( Who else??? I had to laugh that given the situation, the guests were sneaking food.)
Rosalía gives the good father good news. His condition is improving but he still needs to rest and stay calm with two days in bed.
Oscar wants to send Carolina three kisses for every one she sends him . . .
Rosalía makes sure that the good father marries Hugo and Juanita from his chair and not standing up. (They should have had him do the ceremony from his bed)
The good father is disappointed when Rosalía denies his request for a little wine to celebrate with. Celeste can only roll her eyes.
Thanks Liz, it's good to be back!
I suspect Project Genesis is the main culprit for all of the good father's stress. I am sure the calm and peaceful life he once had is now a thing of the past.
Corina IS horrid. I am sure she will be stirring the pot relentlessly, much to our dismay. I'm more afraid of Sara , especially as Andres' safety is now very much in question. I'm relieved Oscar's surprise visit will be too short for Corina and Carlos to concoct something so quickly. Famous last words! :)
Diana
There's a lot going on in this TN. Some of which I understand and some I don't.
The mother had an attack and is now hospitalized. The doctor told her (if I understood this correctly, if not someone pls jump in) she has a brain tumor. She swore the doctor and Aitana to secrecy. Aitana's mother got in touch with her and asked why she was working for that family, and why she is hiding out and lying. Aitana got off the phone when Luciano walked in.
There are some underlying conflicts among the brothers. Bruno seems really bummed out about whatever is going on. I don't quite understand what's going on but I hear the number 18 mentioned which is how long ago the rape happened. Luciano touched Aitana and she got visibly upset. I think he participated in the rape.
Speaking of Luciano, he confessed that he is not the biological father of his daughter. More and more I am coming to agree with the theory put forth that the girl may be the biological daughter of Aitana. Forgive me but I forgot who put forth that theory, but it is insightful.
Meanwhile, Nuria is moving out the house with Inigo who just can't stay away from Larisa. Larisa is suspecting that Aitana sent the anonymous info to Inigo about their affair. She was trying to go through Aitana's belongings when Micaela caught her. I didn't understand what Michaela said to her.
Zac and Ximena seem to be on the outs after he found a note and some tickets from his brother Mateo to Ximena. Apparently he is in love with her.
I hope some kind soul will jump in to add or correct some of what I've said.
Lester
Jarifa, thank you for your kind words; they are truly appreciated.
Another engrossing, all encompassing summary that delighted and enlightened. Loved "Corina pokes Erika in the head repeatedly, as only a wicked witch of a mother can do" - perfect!
"Más sabe el diablo por viejo que por diablo." (The devil knows more because he is old than because he is the devil), what a great expression!
"Gloria is getting tired of waiting! ( Who else??? I had to laugh that given the situation, the guests were sneaking food)" - I also thought that scene was well done and totally realistic! :)
Corina showed her true colors immediately she of a grasping and greedy heart. I've no doubt she will be a thorn in Erika's side and also Oscar's which doesn't bode well for either!
Carolina is unfailingly kind and insightful in her conversations with Oscar. You can see how she brightens his day and that he is falling deeply in love with her. It's heartening to watch.
I forgot for the moment that Franco was in Peru. Thank heavens as Lucas seems far more level headed and better equipped to keep Moises in check (not that anyone truly can) and Andres safe.
Sara does seem the suspicious type. Too bad her spidey sense isn't tingling about Carlos.
I hope Lucia will be all right after her treatment. She has certainly had her share of heartache. I still have no idea how the Franco/Julieta situation is going to be resolved. I did notice her eyes lit up a bit in a previous episode when Franco told her he and Lucia were over.
I have a forboding Father Gabriel will not be finding the peace and serenity he so desperately needs at the moment. Hopefully, that will come at the end.
Jarifa, thank you for infusing this with your usual wit and wisdom and for making everything so clear!
Diana
Elvira: I want to personally thank you for all of your recaps of this chaotic Telenovela. I only watched it because of the seductive Scarlet Gruber & that's it.
Lester, thanks for your recap. This goes by quite fast and a lot of it is confusing. A couple of notes. The rape was 18 years ago after the festival of San Benito, which was being celebrated last night (18 years later) bringing forth all these memories.
I definitely don’t think Luciano participated in the rape, although Aitana is certain he did. She confirmed Luciano’s involvement to Zac when Zac asked, saying it was out of character for Luciano.
Bruno is tormented by guilt, though his level of involvement is not clear to me. Last night Bruno was on the verge of confessing to Luciano, but Mateo convinced Bruno to keep quiet. Mateo told Bruno the woman had died in an accident (this was news to Bruno). Luciano came upon Bruno distraught about what happened 18 years ago, he can’t live with the guilt, etc. When Luciano demanded to know what was going on and why Bruno was so upset about 18 years ago, Mateo and Bruno concocted a story about Belinda’s adoption (yes Kat’s theory seems on target!). This was the scene in the hospital cafeteria. There was also a scene in a prior episode where the other brothers were griping about Luciano and Mom told them to shut up, that only Luciano had “clean hands.”
Mom knows it all.
Also, now that Aitana is on the scene, Zac has realized he doesn’t love Ximena as he should. Zac told his Mom Clementina he loves Ximena (querer), but doesn’t love her (amar). Zac is concerned about Ximena’s safety and is getting her away from the evil brothers by enrolling her in a botany course of study. She plans to leave her job, and the letters from Mateo were begging her to stay.
Lester and Anon , thanks for the recaps . I definitely think that Luciano did not participate in the attack . Bruno did , but he is suffering due to guilt.
I didn't t realize what was wrong with the mother . Does the doctor know the deep, dark secret ?Mateo is super creepy and stalking Ximena .
Does Larissa realize that Aitana is the one who revealed to Nuria that super smarmy Inigio is having an affair ? I get a kick out of Larissa grabbing Lucisno's arm every time Aitana is around. Susan
I'm behind a bit but will catch up tomorrow at the latest. Suddenly there are so many shows to watch, 3 of them new, and learning the characters is taking time.
Going back a few episodes when Mateo poisoned the dog and Zacharias told the dog something about his mistress being happy he got better I assume he meant Aitana. If so the writers need to research Labrador type dogs lifespan. Large dogs rarely live more than 12 to 14 years and since the rape happened 18 years ago that puts the dog 19 years or older! These anomalies always make me question the writing!
Lester, anon and Susan, hopefully we can figure this out together. I'll add more when I catch up.
I don’t have anything to add, lots of great information. I did remember Aitana telling Zacharias about the rape and he asked if Luciano was involved and she said he was the leader. But they were talking about this secret at the hospital(the rape) and they said Luciano could not find out about it, it would be the end of the family. That’s why Bruno told him it was hard keeping the adoption a secret. I also think Mateo told Bruno the girl died, Bruno was racked with guilt over what they did to her. I wonder if they knew her.
Larissa mentioned to Nuria that she should stay in the house, she owns it. Nuria wondered how she knew that, we know she learned it from Inigo. I’m surprised he put the house in her name, probably the only decent thing he’s done in his life.
I was surprised Aitana’s mother is alive. I knew she was getting texts from someone calling herself mom, but I thought it was a friend who was just using the name so no one would know who she was.
Mateo is definitely the creepiest brother, and I say that knowing what Inigo is like. But he’s always with his mother, he’s a vet that poisoned a dog, and when he locked the office door behind Ximena I was terrified for her.
Not sure why evil mom doesn’t want her boys to know how sick she is.
Between the four or so of us we’ll hopefully know what’s going on!
Glad to see all the comments! In his guilt rant in Friday’s episode, Bruno said something I didn’t catch. He used the verb “tocar” “to touch” but I’m not sure if he said I touched her, I didn’t touch her, you made me touch her, or ? Made me think maybe Bruno wasn’t a full participant in the rape.
Yes, Larissa put together it was only Aitana who could have outed their tryst. Larissa explained her suspicions to Iñigo.
Kat, there was a mention early on about what a miracle it was that Lobo was still alive!
Belinda doesn’t know she’s adopted, and Luciano feels guilty for keeping that secret. Luciano told Larissa Belinda had been adopted when she was a few months old. Luciano explained to Larissa he and his wife meant to tell Belinda, but somehow the time was never right. He is gearing up to tell Belinda. Now we know why Mom isn’t wild about her.
