Golden #13

Great recap as usual, Babachita.

I think the Sanli sisters suffer from PTSD.

I’m sure Abi sent the message Seyran was with Yusuf. But he did feel bad for Seyran.

Ha, is Ferit really worried about the tabloids that much or is he jealous.

“(Suddenly we are talking about Yusuf here. This confusing transition might be better in the original.)” They made that quick shift in the original, too. Seyran realized the jig was up so she just went there.

Sultan did not knock on the door. She wants this marriage to fail.

Lion’s milk = rakı We heard the song Kazim played a couple of times before: Antebin Hamamları

Once again Halis shouts—you poisoned the food!

#14 part 1

Orhan gets a call late at night that Kazim is disturbing the neighbors with loud music. They are ready to call the cops. Orhan says he’ll handle it.

Kazim is having a grand time hosting his army buddies. Esme and Suna look exasperated and exhausted. Kazim gets a call from “dünürüm” (my in-laws). Kazim lowers the music and tells his friends to be quiet.

Orhan relays he received a call from the front desk. Turn down the music. Neighbors are trying to sleep. Kazim explains he has guests over. They were listening to Antepli music. Orhan says it’s best to turn it off now, good night. He hangs up. To save face with his friends, Kazim continues a one-way phone call.

After his friends leave, drunken Kazim complains about Orhan. He thinks Orhan should treat him like he would treat Halis Ağa. The front desk should have had the guts to call him directly. He orders Esme to find the apartment contract. She has no idea where that is or what it is. Kazim thinks he’s been lied to. Esme and Suna help Kazim to bed.

Ferit is up early for work. [lol, he “ambushed” Abidin at the car.] He asks Abi to tell the staff to let him know if Seyran leaves the yali. And if a stranger shows up, question him. Ferit says he has a bad feeling today.

The provisions arrive at the Yali and the staff springs into action.

Seyran checks her phone. She has a message from Yusuf. She calls him. What are you threatening me with now, she asks. I’m not threatening, he replies, I just want to talk to you one last time. [I thought last time was the last time.] She’s angry. Did you already forget what you said? Haven’t you done enough?

Yusuf asks if Ferit did anything to her. Are you afraid? I’m afraid of no one, Seyran says, I’m only afraid of your threats. First you show up at the house and now you threaten to post pictures of us? You can’t leave me for your husband of three days, he says, I have nothing to lose. I’m not going back to Antep.

Seyran is listening. Yusuf says they have to meet in person. I want to look at you when you tell me you don’t love me. Meet me at the park near the yali. Seyro says she can’t do it today her family is coming for tea. He says he will wait until evening. If you don’t show up, I’ll post the pictures.

Hattuc asks Suna for advice on what to wear. [lol all her suits look the same to me.] She has a dress for Suna. Time to get ready for the tea.

Latif comes to Halis and tells him that Ibrahim is picking up our guests. Halis says, make sure they’re greeted properly. Tell everyone to wait by the door. Halis has another request. Find out what problems Ferit is having with his wife. What did our guy do this time?

Ferit comes to Necip. He has a bandage on his hand. I cleaned out the closet, he says. Do you need anything else? Necip notices Ferit’s hand. He looks alarmed. Ferit says it’s just a scratch. Necip checks it out. Ferit says he only wrapped it like this because he didn’t have anything else. Son, your hands are your greatest asset, Necip warns, so be careful. Ferit jokes, if that were true, I’d be getting paid. Shut up, the armless master says, will you only understand the value of something after you lose it?

Ferit looks at the master’s empty sleeve. I’m sorry, he says, I’ll be more careful. Necip tells him to go home and take care of his hand. You were distracted today. You must be more focused. Ferit says he’s fine and wants to keep working. Necip cautions, don’t make me tell you twice. Listen to me. Go home. Ferit leaves and Necip looks at his empty sleeve.

#14 part 2

The Sanli ladies arrive at the yali. As Halis had asked, the staff is out there to greet them. Latif leads them towards the entrance where the family waits. Hattuc leads, she shakes hands with Ifakat and Gulgun. Asuman kisses her hand.

Suna has a flashback to spilling the coffee. She feels faint and wobbles. Fuat happens to be next to her and steadies her. Seyran rushes over to her sister. Are you okay? Asuman takes note of all this. Fuat then takes his place beside Asuman. The greetings continue down the line. They emphasize the eye contact Fuat makes with Suna here. She looks shy. Ifakat notices, too. Everyone enters the house.

Esme says that Kazim has always loved Istanbul and thanks to the children, we finally saw it. Ifakat answers, it would have been more appropriate to have Ferit and Seyran come to you in Antep. It’s very ugly that you had to come all this way. What are these words, Hattuc replies, so, we saw you again. Our next time together could be for a funeral.

Allah korusun (God forbid), Gulgun interjects, our children’s happiness is all that matters. We visited Antep and now you’re visiting Istanbul. Seyran is excited you’re here. Besides it’s an old-fashioned tradition. She suggests they have tea outside. Fuat excuses himself and Asuman. Gulgun tells Seyran to give Suna a tour of the yali while they wait for the tea.

Halis comes down in the elevator. He sees Fuat and Asuman. He gives Asuman get well wishes, then heads to the living room where he immediately locks eyes with Hattuc. He welcomes the ladies to the yali, hoşgeldiniz… it’s a pleasure to see you. Hattuc answers, hoşbulduk, Halis Ağa. Esme kisses his hand, thank you, ağam, Allah razı olsun. Esme introduces Suna and she kisses Halis’ hand.

Ifakat says they are going out on the terrace and asks, would you like to join us? He says it’s a little cold outside so he’ll stay in. He sends Latif to get a shawl for Hatice Hanım. [Halis always calls her Hatice.] Don’t let her go out like this. He looks at Hattuc, when Kazim came he said you were feeling ill. There is no need, ağa, Hattuc replies. Ifakat tells Latif to send Sultan to get one of her shawls. Latif says will do, but he has a strange look like this situation is uncomfortable.

Everyone clears the room except Halis and Hattuc. They sit. Halis asks, how are you, Hatice? Good, she replies, I pray for your health. And you? I’m fine for now, he answers. There’s an awkward silence before he asks, are you getting used to the city?

Hattuc says, you think it’s easy to get used to this city after Antep? You’ve been here all these years, have you gotten used to it, Halis? He loses his composure and struggles to answer. How long it’s been since I was just Halis, he replies. I haven’t been able to come and visit you for so many years. Time passes, she notes, I hope we have been able to bring joy and beauty into this world.

You raised your daughter Seyran well, Halis says, may Allah be pleased We did our best, Hattuc replies, Seyran is a bit sensitive. She’s not very experienced and has a lot to learn. She’s lucky to grow within your family and take root here. Inshallah, Halis responds. He gives a little laugh, she seems as sensitive as you. The first time I saw her, I thought I was looking at you. A small tear from Hattuc.

It’s a good thing our fates aren’t the same, Hattuc says with a sigh. Let’s not bow our heads to the past, Hatice, Halis answers, let’s think about the good things, that something good is waiting for us. Inshallah. Halis is fighting tears of his own.

#14 part 3

Seyran brings Suna to her bedroom. Suna is amazed. [I know, I’ve lived in apartments smaller than this room.] She runs out on the balcony. Seyran warns her that the others are below. I don’t know if I should pity you or envy you, Suna says.

Suna wants to know if Ferit did anything to her. Seyran says they just argued. Suna asks if anything else happened. Seyro shows her the picture Yusuf sent. Suna gasps. Do you want me to call him? Seyro says don’t make matters worse. He asked me to meet him later today. He said there would be consequences if I didn’t show up.

Suna apologizes—this is my fault. Seyran says that’s in the past now. I don’t know how Ferit will react if he finds out. Yusuf is so unpredictable. Suna doesn’t think he will follow through on the threat. And what if he does, Seyran asks. She doesn’t know what to do. Suna gives her a hug, we’ll fix it.

Latif brings Hatice Hanım the shawl. [Latif also calls her Hatice instead of Hattuc] She asks him, how are you? Thank God, everything is fine, he replies. She turns to Halis. Take care of yourself, Halis Ağa. And you, too, Hatice, he answers. She joins the others on the terrace. He watches her. Latif asks, do you want to go back to your room? Yes, Latif, yes, let’s go.

Suna sends Seyran back to the others and she heads to a quiet space to call Yusuf. She is surprised and drops her phone when Fuat comes out of his bedroom. Are you okay, he asks. She quickly picks up her phone before he does. I’m fine, she says. You’re shaking again, he notices, you were shaking earlier when we met.

Fuat asks, is this normal for you? No, she replies, you just came out of nowhere. She starts babbling. She’s confused. Do you usually shake like this, he asks. They both start laughing. He apologizes for the strange question. [the camera shots hint at an attraction between them.] She can’t stop laughing. She says, forgive me, I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t help it either after seeing you like this, he answers, your smile lights up the room. You have a beautiful smile. She gets shy and walks away.

Seyran asks Suna what happened. I couldn’t talk, Suna tells her, Ferit’s brother came out of his room. Seyro says maybe it’s for the best. I’ll try to leave with you. Suna asks, do you even know what you will say? I don’t know, Seyro answers, but I have to do this.

Ferit goes back to the car where Abidin is waiting. Abi sees Ferit’s hand. Ferit says it’s nothing, but Necip told him to go home and take care of it. I’m shocked he let me leave, he says. Abi asks, the armless master? You must have hit his sensitive spot. I was surprised, too, Ferit says, you should have seen his reaction. He was very worried. You must have reminded him of his own wound.

Abi tells Ferit let’s go home and take care of your hand. Let’s go for a ride, Ferit replies, I don’t want to see Pelin or go home. I’m so confused. Let’s do something. Abi asks, it isn’t working, is it? I had no “official” captions, Turkish or English, to be sure but it sounded like Abi said you think of both the cake and the ice cream. It was translated as “you can’t sit on two chairs.” It will work, Ferit replies. He wonders, where do you get these sayings from?

Tea time is over and the Sanli ladies are escorted out. Ifakat tells Suna to come anytime. Seyran would love to see you. Suna shakes Fuat’s hand. It was nice to meet you. Halis watches from his window.

#14 part 4

Seyran calls Yusuf, who is waiting by the water. She tells him she can’t come. Don’t insist. You’ve been warned, he says, I’ll wait another hour. This is your only option. Seyran comes downstairs and she runs into Gulgun. She tells her MIL, I thought I’d take a walk. Gulgun asks, now? Is there a problem? No, Seyro replies, Ferit told me about the walk and I wanted to see it for myself. Maybe I can go there sometimes.

Gulgun says that Ferit should take her. Seyran admits that the past few days haven’t been so great, and she needs a distraction. Gulgun worries that Seyro doesn’t know the city that well. She shouldn’t go alone. Seyro invites Gulgun to come. She declines because she has things to do. But she has an idea. Ask one of the guards to follow you from a distance. And don’t take long. Seyro agrees to that.

Seyran heads for the gate. Mustafa asks her where she’s going. For a walk, she replies, Gulgun Hanim knows. Mustafa opens the gate for her. Abi and Ferit are driving when they get the call from Mustafa that Seyro left the yali. Ferit says to follow her and keep him posted. Ferit is angry and tells Abi to turn the car around and step on it.

Mustafa follows Seyran to the park, where she meets with Yusuf. I’m here, she bluntly tells him, you can delete those photos. He begs, don’t do this. What kind of person are you, she asks angrily, were you really going to post those pictures online? Don’t you see the spot you’ve put me in? Yusuf says she left him no choice. What about me, she asks, this was my only choice. Do you know how much I had to lie? Do you know what will happen if they see us?

Is this your house or your prison, Yusuf asks. She shouts—Yusuf! She holds her hand out and demands his phone. Mustafa is watching in the distance. Abi speeds to get to the location asap. Ferit seethes.

Ferit and Abi arrive. Mustafa points to Seyran and Yusuf. Abi pulls Ferit, calm down. Don’t jump to conclusions. I know that look. Ferit breaks free and Yusuf and Seyran see him. With a running start, Ferit wallops Yusuf. Seyran tries to stop Ferit and separate him from Yusuf. Ferit shouts for Abi to take Seyran. Abi takes Seyran and Yusuf punches Ferit. Seyran struggles to break from Abi and shouts for the fighting to stop.

More punches are thrown. Ferit ends up on top of Yusuf and beats him mercilessly. Seyran breaks free from Abi by slapping him. She manages to get Ferit off Yusuf. Ferit let go of him! Leave him alone! Don’t hurt him!
Ferit is stunned. What did you say? Him? I don’t know if Ferit looks more angry or more dejected. He gets up and starts walking away. He turns to look at Seyran.

We see a conversation between Halis and Latif but there’s no sound right away. Finally, we hear Latif say, the boy who was here yesterday, he was Seyran’s boyfriend from Antep.

Back to the shoreline, where Yusuf is still on the ground and Ferit and Seyran look at each other.

And we are out.

"LOBO"
Babachita & Novelera: Looking forward to seeing the recap of this evening's episode. I'll post my personal thoughts on it sometime tomorrow.

lobo

Thursday

When the TN began, they didn’t seem to have the introduction ready to go, the one that lists the cast names and that I usually FF>>>. This is actually a good one. The music is instrumental and quite good. We don’t have to listen to some mournful ballad or corrido. We see a beautiful wolf turn into Arap Bethke. The theme of crayons is well done, and there’s a part where crayon marks create a stairway for Lobo and Renata to climb. It ends with a wolf’s howl.

Fernando has found a video that he thinks proves Dante is El Licenciado. I thought it was Cruz.

Fer and Santi have a small falling out about Fer’s being at risk helping Lobo and Renata.

Lobo and Renata bond even more and exchange a te quiero.

Guillermina has come to Antonia’s place. She bonds well with Javi. But later in the show they go with a trope I always hate, someone sensing when something bad happens to a loved one. She has a nightmare about this after someone chokes Eugenio, her son, with a rope.

We see a photo of Javi’s father. I kind of thought maybe she’d chosen insemination and there was no father.

Lobo and Antonia, over the phone, plan to pretend to hand Renata over to Graciela to see what bad guys might also be there.

Hmmm. Cruz doesn’t seem to want sex with his wife. They haven’t shown him in any hanky panky, and he was shown as a devoted family man early on.

Fer comes to Lobo and shows him a video with Dante hobnobbing with some cartel guys.

Adela gets tough with the wimpy director of the assisted living facility about Guillermina coming back. She threatens him with the press.

El Az has set up some kind of camera in Graciela’s (formerly Miranda’s) house. He watches Antonia and says she won’t be a problem.

Lobo warns Antonia about Dante being crooked.

Antonia comes to see Eugenio. He didn’t die, but he doesn’t seem to remember what happened. AND, a nurse and a doctor don’t seem to notice he was choked with a rope!

Fernando goes out for food, and Renata finds a remote and turns on a television. She finds out her parents are dead and that Lobo is a wanted man.

Anastasia, I’m so sorry you had done a recap and lost it. I haven’t committed to any specific days, but I’ll put something up when the mood strikes me.

"LOBO"
Novelera: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts (it'll be super-short).

*Someone choking Eugenio with a rope? Wondering if it was Scumbag Dante?

*Renata finding out about her parents deaths & that Lobo is a wanted man: Why did Fernando leave that girl all by herself?

*El Az having Antonia watched is going to become a problem.

*Still don't trust Adela for some reason. I cannot put my finger on it, but there's something off about this woman.

*The Old Lady still faking her illness.

*Slippery Cruz doesn't want to have sex with his naive wife? Hmm 🤔

Lobo -

Having Fer and Santi confused that Dante is El Licenciado doesn't make any sense to me. Sure, from the video they saw, Dante is obviously in league with El Azufrero. But a Licenciado is a person licensed by the state. Attorneys in L.A. cultures are often addressed as Licenciado, and CPAs and other professionals are also. Are police detectives licensed by the state government? I don't know - maybe they are.

I also was disappointed in Fer leaving Ren alone to get food. I guess he thought Lobo would be gone a long time, so he couldn't wait for Lobo to come back. He should have hidden the tv remote.

golden

Almost caught up. I've seen #13 and probably will watch #14 tonight.

Why do only jerks carry around those prayer beads? This is not the first dizi I've seen where a guy like Kazim constantly has one in his hand. It frustrates me that I can't remember exactly which dizi and which character I saw with that pattern.

They surely did frustrate me with Pelin finally wheedling Ferit into staying with her while Seyran watched the hours go by.

And, dondi, I'm seeing your "grey" viewpoint of Halis more now. I was leaning toward his wanting Ferit to learn the jewelry trade from the bottom up being just what the rather spoiled young man needs. And I thought he'd be a big supporter of Seyran in the long run. But I just can't understand his tantrums and fist slamming. Doesn't he have plenty of power already? And he blamed the older Korhans for not whipping Seyran into shape.

I was glad to see Ifakat taken down a peg when she was refusing something Seyran wanted. Halis was angry.

Orhan is not a bad guy. It just baffles me that he has a lovely and sympathetic wife in Gulgun and lusts after his brother's widow.

Is it so far out of Turkish custom that there's no mention of Fuat and Asuman adopting a child? The only solution, mentioned by Ifakat in a nasty way IIRC, was Fuat getting some other woman pregnant. Seemed to me she wants Fuat and Gulgun to not be as devoted to each other as they are.

golden

Why do I always think of one more thing as soon as I hit Publish? I have an awful feeling that Kazim wants to marry Suna off to one of his old army buddies. Why else would he insist on her being around?

golden

novelera, you will see the prayer beads when there’s mafia, ağas, the devout, and/or macho types. So, in other words, there’s always someone in a dizi who’s carrying them. It’s a clue to the character.

Halis is an OG. He demands respect and rules by fear a lot of the time.

Orhan isn’t evil. He was forced into a marriage he didn’t want. Maybe he didn’t even want to be in the family business. Think back to the unfortunately edited father-son convo he had with Ferit. Orhan admitted he was unfair to his wife and himself. And that Ferit should give his new wife a chance, and learn to love her. Ferit asked him, didn’t you ever dream of something else? He answered, all we can do is dream. I don’t have the strength for anything else.

Asuman was looking at an adoption site before her surgery. But, yeah, bloodlines are important.

#15 part 1

Yep, Ferit looks dejected after Seyran’s actions and comments. He walks away with Abi and she helps Yusuf up. Yusuf claims he would have taught Ferit a lesson had he come alone [sure]. He asks Seyran if she was hurt. You’re the one who’s hurting me, she replies, this isn’t going to work. Stop this and go back to Antep. Forget about me. She walks away.

Abi tells Ferit that Seyran is coming, should we wait? You can go, Ferit replies. Abi asks Ferit if he’s okay. He doesn’t look so good. Ferit pushes him away, I’m fine. Don’t wait for me. He keeps walking.

Seyran comes to the car. Where’s Ferit? He went for a walk, Abi says. Let him cool off. The more you push him, the worse it will be. Let’s go. She gets in the car. Abi tells Mustafa to follow Ferit. Yusuf is left at the shore.
Ferit makes it back to the yali and Sultan is outside. She reaches out as he walks by—are you okay? He pushes her hand away and doesn’t answer. He looks very angry.

Seyran is in the bedroom, nervously pacing. Ferit enters the bedroom. He stares down Seyran but doesn’t say a word. She speaks first. Ferit… what you saw… it’s not what you think. He asks, what are you saying? “It’s not what you think”? Anything else? I’m sorry, she says, I had to meet him. We were arguing when you got there.

Ferit shouts, why did you have to see him? Who is this guy? Seyran nervously picks at her hands. Ferit continues, I asked if he was threatening you. I asked you to tell me if something was going on. I couldn’t, she replies with her head bowed, that was the last time, really. You don’t say, Ferit snarks, that’s a relief. How can I trust you again?

This isn’t your father’s house, Ferit warns, this isn’t Antep. This is Istanbul and you’re a Korhan. When will you understand? You’re a liar, Ferit says with disgust. And then he notes, you wouldn’t be so quiet if you thought you were right. She’s shaking.

Ferit shouts—answer me! He gets in her face. Why aren’t you yelling? Why are you so quiet? She takes a step back for each step forward of his. She’s petrified. He notices this and steps back. He looks confused and ready to cry. What did you do to me? I hate myself for this, he says.. He tells Seyran to go wash her face.

Seyran is frozen to the spot. She has another childhood flashback. Her father coming up the stairs. He slaps something against his leg. Probably something to punish her with. Ferit touches her hand. Seyran? She snaps out of it but she’s very shaken. She goes to wash up.

Latif comes to their door. Halis Ağa wants to see both of you. It’s very important.

Sultan questions Abidin in the kitchen. Ferit was very upset. What happened? He asks, why do you care? Sefika butts in—because she needs to know everything. [yes, especially when it comes to Ferit.] Sultan continues, he looked so angry, I thought I did something wrong. Why would he be angry with you, Abi replies, they just got married and they’re having issues. That’s all. She fishes for more info. French Carlos says he saw Seyran come home with Abi. Abi snarks, Carlos has learned Turkish thanks to gossiping with all you.

Seyfer cautiously enter Halis’ room. Halis asks Latif to stay. Ferit asks, did something happen? I should be asking you that, Halis replies. We had a guest from Antep and you sent him away. We did what we had to do, Ferit answers, were we wrong? Halis says, in fact this guest turns out to be your wife’s former boyfriend.

golden
#15 part 2

Ferit asks, who told you that? Halis shouts back—then what is the truth? Ferit looks at Seyran who has her head down and is trembling. Ferit takes hold of her hand. He tells Halis that this was a friend of Seyran’s from school. He came to visit us and congratulate us. I misunderstood and we ended up fighting. But then we talked and it was okay. Do you think I’d be holding her hand like this if I was lying? Ferit holds up their joined hands.

Halis asks Seyran if she has anything to add to this. She manages to say that Ferit is telling the truth. I’m sorry, she adds, very sorry. Ferit leans over and whispers, I’m here for you. I’m right by your side.

Halis walks up close to Seyfer. He tells Seyran, raise your head, beauty. Don’t bow it. Lies are sweet like candy. People enjoy eating it. Latif looks unhappy at this comment. Halis continues, if you and your husband are confident in what you say, I’ll trust your word over a stranger’s. You can go. They both thank grandpa. Ferit adds, thank you for trusting us.

Seyfer leave the room holding hands. As soon as they are out. Ferit angrily drops Seyran’s hand.

Halis asks Latif why he brought this rumor to him when he has no proof. Latif responds, I told you what I heard and I thought you should know. You did your part this time, Halis says, but the next time someone tries to slander Seyran, check your sources. Then tell me. Halis looks troubled.

Seyfer get back to the room. Ferit doesn’t look well. He drinks some water. Seyran starts to thank him. Now he really doesn’t look well. He takes a few steps. His eyes flutter. Seyran says, when your grandfather… she stops when Ferit leans over on a chair. She runs to him. Ferit? Are you alright? Hold on to me! He pushes her away—let go of me. He takes a couple of steps and falls against the couch. Ferit! Can you hear me? Open your eyes.

Ferit pants, my medication. He points, it’s in the drawer. She finds a bag with the syringe. It’s missing the needle. Seyro goes back to the drawer. She panics. Ferit, there’s no needle! He tells her to call Abidin.

Abi is outside talking with Ibo. Then he’s stopped by a guard who is having trouble logging into the system. Seyran makes the call but Abi’s phone is in the car. He doesn’t hear it. Seyran says she’s calling Gulgun. Ferit stops her—don’t call her. Seyran remembers the needles in the car’s glove box. She’s ready to go. He stops her again—don’t. They will know.

Who cares if they know, Seyran snaps. She’s about to leave. He calls out—Seyran! It will pass. I’m fine. It doesn’t look like he’s fine. She tries calling Abidin again. This time Abi answers. Abidin Abi, Ferit is passing out. He’s not doing well. What do I do? I found his meds but there’s no needle. Abi asks, is he conscious? A little, she says, we need the needle.

Seyran puts the phone on speaker for Ferit. Abi, don’t let anyone know, he gasps. Understood, Abi replies, I’ll be right there. Abi takes a needle from the car and runs into the yali. He bounds up the stairs, only to be stopped by Halis. Abidin! Where are you going in such a rush? You look worried. I’m on my way to see Ferit, Abi answers. Is something wrong, Halis asks. No, he just wanted to see me, Abi says. Halis says, well if you’re not in a rush, I want to talk to you.

golden
#15 part 3

Ferit is barely conscious and Seyran is pacing wondering where Abidin is. What do I do, she says, what do I do? Ferit is breathing heavy his eyes are closed. She rushes over to him. Ferit? Can you hear me? He nods. It’s okay, she says, I’m right here. She takes his hand and puts a pillow under his head to rest it on the couch. Don’t worry, Abidin will be here soon. She puts her head down on his shoulder.

Halis asks Abidin, do I make myself clear? If I find out you’re hiding anything from me, you’re fired. I won’t let you down, Abi replies, I always tell Latif what’s important. Not good enough for Halis. You’ll update Latif with every move Ferit makes from now on, he says. He lets Abi go.

Seyran is wiping sweat off Ferit and holding his hand. Where is Abi? She tells Ferit it will be okay. He tells her he’s fine. She apologizes. I’m sorry, this is my fault. Abidin arrives with the insulin. Ferit will be okay.

A short while later, Ferit is in his bed. Abi checks his blood, it’s back to normal. He sends Seyran to the bathroom to get a towel for Ferit. Seyran leaves and Ferit laughs. Why did you send her to the bathroom? This isn’t funny, Abi replies, you’ve fainted before but not like this to be in bed. If you feel this bad, I’ll take you to a doctor.

I’m fine, Ferit says, I was just a bit dizzy. I staggered a little and then I improvised. What did you do, Abi asks. Ferit repeats, I improvised. I wasn’t going to forgive her. He laughs. Abi asks, so you faked this? No, Ferit replies, didn’t you see I needed insulin? I just chose to go down.

Abi notes that Seyran was so scared. He tells Ferit he should be ashamed. Ferit says Seyran will be fine. Besides, I told her I was fine. I never said I wasn’t. What kind of man are you, Abi asks. Ferit says with a big smile, she will look after me. “Beni yarı yolda bırakmaz” (she won’t leave me half way). He didn’t say “she loves me” in the original. He called her a “fena hatun”. This is slang. I think it’s usually said about a “hot” girl. But in this case, I think Ferit meant Seyran was a tough girl, “bad” in a good way.

Latif comes into the kitchen to make sure everyone’s working at full capacity. Halis will have dinner in his room tonight.

Ferit gets ready to go out. Seyran thinks he should stay home. He says he informed his mother they wouldn’t come down for dinner. That’s not what I mean, Seyro says. He tells her she’s in no position to ask him anything. She notes that he just recovered. He should stay home and rest.

There’s a knock at the door. It’s Sultan with a dinner tray. Sultan stops Ferit from leaving. She needs to talk to him. Alone. It’s very important. Seyran heads to the balcony. She starts, I know you’ll say I can’t leave you alone. But I can’t leave you like this. Ferit looks annoyed. She asks him not to get upset. Halis Ağa is keeping tabs on you. Latif might come to your room at night to check. He asks, who told you this? It doesn’t matter, she replies. He asks, does Abidin know? He does, she says, we’ve been warned. You have to be careful. And you didn’t hear this from me, okay? He thanks her. She leaves.

Ferit goes out on the balcony. He tells Seyran they didn’t convince grandpa enough. He’s going to have someone follow me to make sure I’m telling the truth. Are you happy now? She says, Ferit… you don’t understand. I didn’t want this to happen. How many times do I have to apologize? It’s okay, he replies, go inside and eat your dinner. I don’t want to eat. I want to be alone right now. You haven’t eaten anything since this morning, she tells him, eat something and then you can be alone. I don’t want to, he says, but I also don’t want to argue anymore. They both go inside.

#15 part 4

Ferit sits in a chair and Seyran sets a little table for him. He tries not to let on that he’s enjoying this. She asks, do you want some soup? No. Just take a couple of spoons, she says, you’ll feel better. He asks what kind of soup. Lentil. He frowns. What else is there? Salmon. Ferit doesn’t want any. He tells her she can eat it all. I’ll only eat if you do, she tells him.

Ferit gives in and tries the soup. He asks, is there water? She goes for it. While her back is turned, he starts scarfing down the soup. She turns back. He’s still eating. They smile at each other. The soup is very good, he says.

Orhan intends to invite Kazim to dinner tomorrow. Halis agreed to it but he won’t be joining them. Ifakat is not happy about this. Gulgun says that the Sanlis wouldn’t be comfortable with Ifakat around anyway. Ifakat says she will stay home with Asuman. Gulgun thinks Asuman might want to come. She’ll be pestered with questions from Kazim, Ifakat replies, he’s tactless. Orhan agrees. I can’t understand how he’s Seyran’s father.

Gulgun says that Seyran is a smart girl. She will do great things with our support. What does that mean, Ifakat asks. Gulgun explains, she wants to study and we said we’d support her. Ifakat replies, are you crazy? She shouldn’t dream in vain. Gulgun asks for an explanation. Things are different now, she says, Seyran can make her own decisions.

I know things are different, Ifakat says, they’re worse now. Everyone carries a camera in their pocket. Sooner or later, someone will have something on her. They will pay attention to her friends, clothes, hair. We’ll see her in the tabloids every day. Orhan says they didn’t think of it like that… but she can go to school.

Ifakat thinks that will distance her from Ferit. When will they have a baby? Don’t you want grandchildren? How do you make that connection, Gulgun asks. Imagine if she goes to school pregnant, Ifakat replies. She needs to have a baby. Halis Ağa and you deserve a grandchild. It will fill the house with joy.

Gulgun snarks, that was the one thing you weren’t involved in. She can have a baby when she’s done with school. Ifakat counters, like Asuman did? She wouldn’t be in this position if she had married at Seyran’s age. We are talking about a life. What school is more important than that? Zinger from Gulgun—I have two children. I know more about it than you. And I’ll always support my daughters. If Seyran wants an education, she will have one. This discussion is over.

Orhan says that his father might share Ifakat’s thoughts. They agree on a lot of things. Yes, Gulgun answers, she knows how to manipulate him. Ifakat tells her to shut up. Orhan says that’s enough from both of you. This is Ferit and Seyran’s choice. If they want a baby, they will have one. Gulgun is pleased. Ifakat is pissed at Orhan and leaves the room.

Fuat is at the back of the yali, staring out over the water. Orhan sees this but does nothing.

Ferit is in the bedroom drawing while Seyran is sleeping on the couch. Ferit takes a break. He goes out on the balcony and calls Pelin. I’m so overwhelmed, he tells her, grandpa wants a new sketch by tomorrow. What are you up to?

We see that Pelin is all dressed up for a night on the town and she’s in some guy’s car. She lies and tells Ferit she’s just doing some stuff at home. The guy with her shakes his head and smiles at this. Ferit thinks Pelo sounds weird. She says, I’m surprised you called so late. Ferit replies, I thought I could call my girlfriend whenever.

#15 part 5

Ferit hears a car horn and asks, what’s that noise? Are you sure you’re home? Where else would I be, she says, are you okay? I’m okay, he answers, never mind. He lies, Seyran woke up. I’ll call you later. Pelo gripes to her companion, the one time I go out and he calls. Do you think he suspected anything? He heard the cars. No way, the guy says. They drive.

Pelo and her companion go to her place. He says, you ruined our night. Pelo feels uncomfortable with what happened. The guy asks, how would he know? I don’t care if he knows or not, Pelo replies, I wouldn’t be comfortable. Pelo opens the door and the guy hurries off to pee. She says she’ll make coffee. He says he wants to take a shower.

Ferit is dressed and is sneaking out of the house. Door is locked. He spots Latif locking the other door. He runs and hides behind the staircase. Latif goes and Ferit opens a window. He waits for the guard to pass. He manages to climb on top of the guard house to make his escape and he hails a cab.

Pelo is sitting with her coffee, watching something on her laptop. The doorbell rings. It’s Ferit. She’s still in her party dress. He looks her over. What’s going on, Pelin? Are you going somewhere? She lies, no, I’ve been home. He pushes her and enters the apartment. Yeah, right. You lied to me. She says, it’s not what it looks like.

You lied to me, he shouts, what are you wearing. [not exactly loungewear she’s got on.] Ferit hears something and runs to the bathroom door. Who’s there?! Ferit bangs on the door—open the door! Pelin says, I’ll tell you, calm down! Ferit keeps shouting—you lied to me! Open the door!

The door opens and it’s the guy, just out of the shower and wearing a robe. Ferit looks at him and takes a breath.

And we are out.

I’m less and less enjoying this now, so I’m not going to continue summarizing on Mondays. Just fyi.

I'm always happy I haven't vested much time in the less enjoyable TNs. You have vindicated my decision and I'll remove it from my library!

"LOBO"
Babachita: That's disappointing. You will deeply regret it when the Good Guys eventually defeat the Villains in the end of this Telenovela.

Kat in SC: You better get used to the likelihood of seeing similar Telenovelas like this in the future.

Novelera: I'll be waiting for your recap of Friday night's episode.

Steve, my main issue was how difficult I found this to recap. But, there are many types of novelas now, something for everyone. So, we can all find ones we enjoy watching, which is great. I love the variety!

Wonderful summaries, as always, Dondi!

I agree Hattuc’s suits look alike, but they are beautifully tailored. She looks nice in them. I wonder if anyone notices the bond or attraction between them. Latif appears to know her from way back. I found it amusing to see Mr Poweful Halis lose his composure for a bit. Hattuc has the power here. Halis was moved to tears.

Re Yusuf, my mind is just a bit divided. He does seem to worry about Seyran, but mostly he’s a stubborn guy who can’t accept no. He is petulant. He might be brave but it’s more like fooloshness.

Prayer beads bring Karaman from Hija to mind. I may have the name wrong. He was always breaking them when upset! More beads bouncing!

The terror Seyran and Suna feel does seem like PTSD, Dondi. I wonder if they can heal.

So, Latif told Halis who Yusuf is. What a snitch. Well, I guess that’s his role, to know everything about everyone. Ifakat is like that too, but probably hasn’t the network of spies that Latif does. I was happy (and surprised) that Ferit stood up for Seyran to Halis.

Halis remonstrates with Latif, saying lies are sweet as candy. People just eat them up. I liked sering Latif’s discomfort. He will have to find evidence now for what he reports.

Poor Abidin now has to rat on Ferit, putting him in a difficult position. I was surprised that Ferit faked the seriousness of his blood sugar attack. He’s quite smart and quite the schemer!

Sultan warns Ferit that he’s being watched at all times. She is so loyal to Ferit.

Interesting exchange about Seyran going to university. Ferit’s parents see no problem if that’s her choice. Children can come later. Ifakat, however, sees the need for an heir as paramount. I like that Gulgun and Orhan are supportive of their son and DIL.

Obviously, Ferit isn’t deterred in the least from doing what he likes. He finds an exit going over the guard house! What could go wrong?

Just a housekeeping thing. As I've said before, all these many years on Caray, Caray, I've been under the impression that the title word should be alone at the top of each comment. I still don't know 100% if this is true. But I got the idea somewhere that that single word at the top would let people look up all the recaps and comments going forward by searching that word. So, I'd recommend putting the number of the episode in the next paragraph.

#15...I am caught up. Last night's episode was very exciting and dondi did it justice, as always. That was a very significant look between Suna and Fuat. They've made such a point of Asuman and Fuat being a love match that I sincerely hope they aren't going with Suna being the surrogate for Fuat's heir. That's what Ifakat would like. Where did she get that maniacal devotion to the Korhan name and for Korhan women to be baby producing machines?

This is a bit ridiculous of me to say, but why does Ferit have eyebrows like thickets and zero chest hair? I like male chest hair. And I've been annoyed for decades that all the overly muscled telenovela guys have no chest hair.

At least Ferit caught on that he was traumatizing Seyran by yelling at her. I hope someday she'll share with him what growing up under Kazim's terrible thumb was like.

Did we ever see Burak before Ferit found him in Pelin's bathroom? My fingers and toes are crossed that this is the end of Ferit's seeking her out. And I found Pelin's conversations with Burak about Ferit rather odd. I had been under the impression that she was obsessed with Ferit. Yes, she doesn't have good sense about his diabetes, but still. What I saw in #15 seemed more like she was playing him to get close to the Korhans.

Orhan waffled a bit but eventually sided with Gulgun about Seyran attending university. It drives me nuts the hold Ifakat has on him.

I should be able to do some recaps. All along I've watched every episode, whether TN or dizi, all the way through. Then I go back and move through it again recording important conversations and skipping some things I find irrelevant or repetitious. Maybe I'll try writing notes as I watch as I believe the rest of you do. I could do that on my desktop computer. I prefer to not recap Mondays and Wednesdays. Cycling is Monday night and Pilates Wednesday.

Sorry, Novelera, I forgot to put the episode I was commenting on under the title!

I’m doing #16 and will post when next week’s page is available. Dondi and I only were doing them and another recapper would be great. She’s got stuff going on this weekend. Let’s see what she decides. We’ve been doing five each week.

There is something between Fuat and Suna. I’d hate for it to progress because Fuat and Asuman are so nice together. Suna is probably vulnerable because anyone might be better than home. She also really wanted to marry.

I’m sure Ferit will find out eventually what a traumatic childhood she had. It’s hard to believe!

Pelin’s motives are questionable. I felt sorry for her at the beginning, but not so much now. It must be difficult to be such a desirable catch that you would never know if a girl truly cared or just wanted the lifestyle, etc.

Glad you are watching.
