Golden Boy – Yali Capkini – Poder y Traicion
Episode 48 #1 of 9
“Dream or Nightmare”

Back in the attic suite, Ferit puts on a hoodie that looks like a robe while Seyran is still in bed wearing red pajamas. She teases him that he has found a solution to their situation: to go off with his lover, and she corrects this to ex-lover. She tells him to go ahead and leave.
Ferit: Do you think I’d go see her dressed like this? That’s dumb.
Seyran jokes that those watching at home are probably not surprised. (Is this a reference to being in a dizi or…?)
He tells her his phone is in the car and he was going to get it. He throws a pillow at her. He tells her she should be grateful to him for being such a saint.
Ferit: You don’t let me sleep beside you, you don’t let me kiss you, and you don’t pay your bets.
Seyran makes really obnoxious faces while he says this. They are tussling on the couch. She keeps saying, “Don’t touch me.” Ferit gets her blanket, which makes her even more angry.
Ferit: To top it off, you get jealous.
Seyran hits him with her blanket (just retrieved), and he walks off: Aren’t you going to scold me?
He makes an ugly face and leaves. She responds with another ugly face.
She settles into her sofa, saying now she has a cramp from all the horseplay.

We see Dicle saying good night to Yusuf in the servant’s quarters. She tells him to be careful and not to let anyone see him. He tells her it will be fine unless Sultan finds out. She tells him not to come back until Ifakat falls asleep. He smiles and tells her he hopes she does soon.

Ferit is trudging toward his car. Yusuf sees him. Then we see Sultan waiting in the gazebo. Yusuf continues to watch from a hiding place. Ferit enters the car and tries to retrieve his phone in the back seat. Sultan opens the opposite door. Ferit is surprised to see her.
Ferit: What are you doing? Are you out of it?
She tells him she is fine, but she looks like she’s very emotional. Ferit tells her she doesn’t look well. She tells him that he looks good and that’s what matters. She is holding him, but Ferit tells her she needs to leave because he doesn’t want anyone to see them in the car. She tells him it doesn’t matter if they do. She says they will say she got drunk and that her husband left her.
Sultan: Don’t worry, nobody will know that I’m crying over you.
Ferit: Alright, Sultan, that’s enough. Go get some rest.
Outside, Yusuf is watching closely and decides to take a picture. He drops his phone. Ferit hears this and looks closely from the vehicle to see if anyone is there. Ferit finally retrieves his phone. We see Yusuf emerge from his hiding place to continue watching and recording their backseat encounter. Ferit apparently doesn’t reciprocate Sultan’s desire and leaves the vehicle. Sultan leaves the vehicle and slowly walks back to her place. Yusuf sees all of this. [I’m thinking that late night outside the yali is where the action is! And, not just outside.]
Inside, Ferit starts up the stairs and looks up in time to see Orhan knock on Ifakat’s door and be welcomed warmly as they smile at one another, moving into an embrace.
Ferit: Father?
The guilty couple separates, and all three stare at one another.
Ferit: What’s going on? Where’s Mom?
Orhan: Sleeping. She was tired.

Episode 48 #2 of 9
Ferit’s face is a stormcloud. He starts back up the stairs toward them.
Ferit: What are you two doing together so late?
Ifakat: What do you mean by that?
Orhan: I have things to discuss with your aunt.
Ifakat: You father-in-law’s coming for breakfast tomorrow morning. We’re going to talk about how all you’ve done lately has cost us. You can come inside too.
[Ifakat plays this so well. The best defense is an offense, and she handles it perfectly. Orhan is in shock. I’m wondering if she has set the stage with candles, etc, in her room. If so, she’s a pretty cool customer, taking the chance that Ferit won’t join them.]
Ferit narrows his eyes.
Orhan finally joins in: Brush your hair like I told you to; there’s still confetti in it.
Ifakat: I will. You can tell I had fun. Ferit, why are you just standing there? Come in.
Orhan: Come inside, son, if you want to.
Ferit continues to stare; it’s obvious he isn’t buying their cover story. Then he snaps out of it and begs off: Uh, no thanks. Seyran is expecting me. I’d left my phone in the car and went to get it.
Orhan: Alright, get some rest.
Ifakat: Good night.
Ferit: The same to you.
He walks on toward the stairs to his room. He enters the suite. Seyran, on her sofa-bed, can tell something happened from his expression.
Seyran: Took you awhile to find it, huh?
Ferit doesn’t answer, even when she tries to snap him out of it.
Finally he looks over at her. She asks if he is OK. He says he is fine and asks why she asks this. She tells him he doesn’t look well.
Ferit: Where’d you get an idea like that?
Seyran: If nothing were wrong, you’d be talking. That’s why.
Ferit grins, sort of, and laughs: Hey, so you were expecting me to say something? You just couldn’t sleep until your husband kissed you, dear wife?
He leans in, but Seyran quickly moves out of the way. She holds her hands up, karate style: I wasn’t expecting you to say anything. Plus, I know karate, Ferit. You’re trying to take advantage of me.
Ferit: You were expecting it, Seyran. Come to me.
Seyran: What?
Ferit: You’re not going to bed without first kissing me.
He slaps her hands, Ferit!
He runs after her: It’s just a kiss.
Seyran: You want me to slap you again?
She is laughing while running, so this is more like physical bantering. They are both enjoying it. She jumps on the bed and he corners her there. She has the same expression she had several episodes back on the bed: anticipation mixed with rejection. He reaches out and puts his hands around her waist, pulls her hair back, and she is looking at him with desire. But she says: Ferit, will you please go? We had a very nice time. Let’s not ruin it. Can we please make a nice memory for once?
Ferit: I’m too ungrateful. So does that mean all you have are bad memories of me? I wish you’d say, “Every moment with you is wonderful.”
He puts both hands on either side of her along the wall: Can I have at least a goodnight kiss on the cheek.

Episode 48 # 3 of 9
He turns his cheek toward her: One kiss.
She reaches up and kisses his cheek. They both are smiling. She then squats down and gets away from his arms. She runs back to her sofa, covering herself, with a happy smile.
Ferit, still standing on the bed, smiles as well. He touches his cheek lovingly and looks over at her. They both are smiling. He drops down on the bed.
Ferit, teasingly: Good night, wife.
She smiles back at him.
[I’m so glad this lovely evening ended with a happy détente between Ferit and Seyran.]

We see Kazim, still happily inebriated from dinner, talking to himself: What a relief. That was perfect.
Huttuc enters and Kazim invites her to join him.
Hattuc: Tell me what you talked with Mr. Halis about.
Kazim: We talked about a lot. Halis Aga can be stern when he gets upset, but he’s a great man. He’s talking aobut a house and some land for us. Everything’s great, Auntie. We’re having breakfast with them tomorrow. We’ll clarify things right then and there.
Hattuc: No, I’ll go over later with Esme. I can’t be there while you discuss property. That kind of talk is boring.
Kazim: what do you mean? The man apologized to me. The powerful Halis Aga said sorry. He’s talking a house and land. He’s making an attempt to redeem himself. We can’t turn Halis down.
Hattuc: Since we’re having coffee, why don’t you talk to me about the rest of your conversation.
Kazim: No, Auntie. I’m going to bed. Poor Esme, she got so tired having to wear those heels all night. Where is she? (He hollers for her.)
Finally, the “old” Esme appears: Here I am, Kazim. Sorry, I was changing into the usual. Would you like something?
Kazim makes awful faces, recoiling from her. (I wonder how she feels anytime she sees him!)
Kazim: Lord, give me patience. Let me ask you something and tell me the truth. Do you feel better dressed like that? What is this? A ridiculous disguise? Don’t drag your feet like that again. And why’d you take off all your makeup? You look like a dead fish. Go on! Make us coffee! And hurry up.
Esme: Yes, Kazim.
Kazim: Go on, dead fish.
Esme trudges off, back to her usual labor. She tells herself: Guess this means the fairytale’s over.
Kazim, sitting next to Hattuc: Is that your stomach growling?
Hattuc: I thought she was going to bed. Didn’t you say she was very tired?
Kazim: You want me to let her sleep? Did you see her? She’s depressed. You didn’t see her amble in like a zombie? Whatever, nobody’s ruining this beautiful day. I’m happy as a clam. I’m going to sit here until morning. Forget about sleeping. It’s going to be so fun, Auntie.
Hattuc makes a wry face toward her nephew.

The next morning, Seyran is sound asleep on her sofa when her phone rings, waking her. She reaches for her phone. It’s a text from Yusuf telling her they must meet; it’s a matter of life and death. She looks over at Ferit, sound asleep on the bed. She gets a long sweater coat and heads out to the patio. She calls Yusuf. She asks what is so important. He asks where she is. He tells her they need to talk face to face. She tells him they have nothing to talk about face to face. She tells him to tell her now what it is. He asks if she is on the terrace. He’s standing just below.
Seyran: Yusuf, you’re crazy. Someone will see us. Tell me what you want to say or I’ll hang up.
Yusuf: You have to believe me. I saw them last night, Ferit and Sultan.
Seyran: What the heck are you talking about? What did you see?
Yusuf: They were cuddling in the car.
Seyran: You’ve gone completely mad. Your big ears aren’t hearing the things coming out of your mouth.

Episode 48 # 4 of 9
Yusuf: Seyran, I swear I’m telling the truth. I saw them snuggling each other in the car.
Seyran: Don’t be silly, Yusuf. OK? You’re just confused. Don’t text or call me again.
Yusuf: What reason do I have to lie to you? It’s the truth. I wouldn’t lie about something like this.
Seyran: Quiet, I won’t hear such nonsense.
Yusuf: Wait Seyran, don’t hang up.
She hangs up and walks back inside. Yusuf can’t decide his next move.
Inside, she finds Ferit stirring. He wishes her good morning. He asks if she was getting some morning sea air?
Seyran: I was talking to Yusuf and went to the terrace so you wouldn’t hear.
Ferit laughs at this joke. Seyran has a smile at the double joke.
Ferit: That’s a good one. I don’t believe it. Don’t lie to me, darling, ‘cause you ain’t fooling me. Come up with a better routine because I don’t believe your old, boring jokes about Yusuf, OK?
Seyran: That’s your problem, but I’m telling the truth. Whether you believe me is your problem.
Ferit: What?
Seyran: What happened, Ferit? Didn’t you say it was all in the past and that you didn’t believe it? What happened?
Ferit: I don’t believe you. Not one bit.
Seyran: Alright. I’ll ask Ms. Sultan to bring me coffee. Would you like some, too?
Ferit: Coffee, in the morning?
Seyran: Yes, so what?
Ferit: I don’t know. You usually don’t have coffee before breakfast.
Seyran: I didn’t used to eat breakfast either, but now I do.
Ferit: OK, sure.
She uses the intercom to talk to Sefika: Can you have Ms. Sultan bring me coffee, no sugar, please?
Ferit is now thinking hard.
Sefika says Dicle will bring it right away. Seyran says, no, please have Ms. Sultan bring it. I want her lovely hands to bring it to me. I had a dream about her.
Ferit is thinking harder; this is striking him as very odd.
Sefika says of course.
Ferit: What are you doing?
Seyran: Didn’t you hear?
Ferit: Ms. Sefika said that Dicle would bring it. Why does it have to be Sultan?
Seyran: I told you, I dreamt about her.
Ferit laughs: Are you serious? You had a dream about her?
He sits beside her on the sofa.
Ferit: I want to know what the dream was about. But tell me your dream as you stare into the distant light if you want it to come true, of course. My grandfather always said.
Seyran: Of course, Ferit. Mansplain to me how to explain my own dream. That’s the only thing missing.
Ferit: Don’t worry, I will. Whatever you want. I’ll train you on how exactly you should behave. It’ll be like you have total amnesia and I have to teach you everything there is to know.
Ferit trips along very cheerfully into the bathroom.
Seyran laughs, but as soon as he is gone from the room, her face falls. She makes a very funny comment to herself: Actually, I’ll be the one teaching you. (She smiles at this.)
Downstairs, Sultan looks very unhappy.

Episode 48 #5 of 9
Oh, please, is that woman crazy? What’s she going to tell me?
Sefika: Sultan, you think she’s got something to tell you? She said she saw you in her dream. Now, why you were there and what you were doing, you’re going to have to tell me that.
Sultan: Sure, Sefika. You’re so funny.
Sefika: Well, if you don’t want me to joke with you, then go and take her the coffee.
Sultan: I don’t care. And you should be grateful.
Seyran is putting on her earrings when there is a knock. She says: Come in.
She smiles at Sultan (not a very convincing smile).
Sultan: Good morning, Ms. Seyran. Here’s your coffee.
Seyran tells her to leave it on the table. She goes over to close the door, and her fake smile disappears as she close s Sultan in.
Seyran: I had a dream about you. You were very upset with me. I didn’t understand at first, but now I think I’m starting to.
Ferit comes out of the bathroom, and Seyran tells him she’s explaining her dream to Ms. Sultan.
He walks over and joins them.
Ferit: Oh yeah? Well, go ahead.
Seyran: Well, we were fighting. She yelled in my face for taking a bracelet or something from her room.
Ferit sits, uncomfortably.
Seyran continues: Well. She caught me, and you should’ve seen how she yelled at me.
Ferit: Then what?
Seyran: I explained to Ms. Sultan that it was my bracelet. I told her: You probably grabbed it by mistake when you were cleaning. Then she looked at the bracelet and apologized. “I must have gotten confused,” Ms. Seyran, “I’m really sorry.” I told her it was OK, that these things could happen, but to make sure it never happened again. That’s all. That’s all I remember.
Sultan: Some say that dreams can mean the opposite of what happens in them. They can mean something good.
Seyran: To be honest, I don’t know if this dream was good or bad.
Sultan: It sounded interesting and I’m intrigued, so I’m going to investigate.
Seyran: You should, but when you get some info, let me know. I’m curious, too.
Sultan, making her usual expression, excuses herself and tells Seyran to enjoy her coffee.
Seyran: Thanks, Ms. Sultan.
The door closes and Seyran drinks some of her coffee.
Ferit frowns a bit. Seyran tells him she didn’t ask for any for him, but he can have some of hers if he’d like.
He grimaces at this offer: Not this early. I’m not going to wreck my stomach because of some dream.
Seyran, in a conspiratorial tone: But my dreams come true. You should watch Ms. Sultan.
Ferit: You have nothing to worry about, darling. There are boundaries between the help and me. They’ve essential. And since you keep tabs on your ex-boyfriend who works here, I keep tabs on them too.
Seyran: Oh, Ferit, how can you connect my dream to him? Get ready or we’ll be late.
Ferit: That’s right. That’s life.

Downstairs, Orhan, Fuat and Kazim are sitting on the sofa looking at land on the laptop. Kazim tells Fuat not to go so fast.
Kazim stops at one picture. Orhan says: If you like, we can begin the process today, Mr. Kazim.
Kazim: Well, it’s not a matter of whether I’d like to, what will I do with the property at my age? This would be for my daughters and my grandsons. It’s for them.

Episode 48 #6 of 9
Kazim points at a property and asks how much it is.
Orhan: One million dollars.
Kazim: One million, this?
Orhan: Yes, it’s worth a million. It’s a better investment for the future.
Kazim: Why this one?
Orhan: I told you, Mr. Kazim. It’s undeveloped land. The other one was reconstructed, and it’s ready.
Kazim: The million is worth it. Fuat, please calculate this. What’s the exchange rate on the million? The house is changing. (Orhan looks very annoyed at all this.)
Fuat does the calculation and shows the result to Kazim.
Kazim: Oh, wow, Fuat. Orhan, what do you say to that?
Orhan: Well, I promised myself I wouldn’t say more. We’ll do whatever you want.
Kazim: Then that’s what we’ll do. Good luck with that.
Kazim shakes Orhan’s hand and pats Fuat’s leg. Then he continues: Now as you know, Mr. Halis also promised me a house. When will that be?
Orhan promises, soon, soon: Let’s handle this matter first. It’ll be soon.
Asuman enters and sits at the table with Gulgun.
The women look at one another, amazed at how the meeting is going. Asuman asks what’s going on. Gulgun tells her a property and a house. She tells Asuman she just wants it done. She doesn’t understand how they can stand this guy. They deserve an award for putting up with him.
Asuman notices that Fuat doesn’t seem to be very upset. He’d never treat my family like that.
Gulgun: Don’t think like that. They’re just going along with him. What can they do?
Asuman: I don’t think it’s just that.
Kazim is bragging when Seyran enters: And then I kicked the guy, ….
They greet Ferit, Seyran, and Suna. Kazim doesn’t get to finish his tale.
Kazim asks Ferit: How are you, son-in-law?
Ferit fist bumps him back: Stupendous. Like a bomb about to go off.
Kazim doesn’t get it, and Ferit tells him he’s fine, in other words. Then he asks Kazim how he is.
Kazim: Like a bomb, too.
When Ferit looks amused, he tells him not to smile that way.
Kazim tells Ferit he needs to be very careful from now on: Good job protecting your marriage, but from now on, you’ll be a lot more careful with that. (He wags his index finger.)
Ferit: Don’t worry.
Orhan: We talked about that and it’s been resolved.
Kazim: Good. I was so relieved yesterday. I felt free as a bird.
Ifakat enters and announces that Mr. Halis is coming.
Everyone rises and goes into the dining room. Later we see them eating.
Halis: I wish you’d brought Ms. Hatice and Ms. Esme, Kazim. We didn’t go down after one battle because our roots kept us strong and on our feet. I wish we could all be together.
Kazim: I told them, sir, but they’re coming in the afternoon. My aunt wants to visit and give you her thanks.
Halis: Thank you. It will be our pleasure, right, Ifakat?
Ifkat assures him it is. She tells Kazim they are welcome here whenever they like.
Kazim gives the gesture where he puts his hand over his heart.
Gulgun: By the way, I took the liberty of scheduling a photo shoot for Ferit and Seyran today.
Halis: Where’d that come from?
Gulgun: Orhan and I have a friend from school. I’m referring to Defne (to Orhan). She’s a very successful woman and she just returned from Berlin. She’s the editor of a respected magazine. I spoke to her and thank goodness she didn’t turn me away. But I can cancel if you want.
Orhan looks unhappy, and, IMO, Ifakat always looks that way.

Halis: I really don’t know. Is this the best time for this?
Ifakat: We should wait until things cool down, sir. It’s not necessary. We don’t know what they’ll record or write about them.
Gulgun: That’s silly. We have final say every step of the way. We’ll show you the pictures before the magazine goes to print. If I didn’t trust this woman’s work, I wouldn’t have offered.
Orhan: Sorry, I think it’s unnecessary.
Ferit and Seyran have been discussing this quietly.
Ferit: Does anyone care what we think? Maybe we want to do it. What do you think, love?
Before Seyran can speak, Kazim speaks: They are right. Everybody here is always speaking for them. If you let them pose for some romantic pictures, people would stop talking.
Ferit: Believe it or not, that’s the first time I agree with you on something.
Kazim does the heart gesture toward Ferit.
Gulgun: I scheduled it because I thought the same. You’d be on the cover, and we’d show everyone that everything’s fine. Plus, Seyran, you’d be wearing our jewels. We haven’t had such a beautiful model in a long time. It’s going to be a hit. What do you say?
Suna winks at Seyran, Asuman looks happy and also Fuat.
Halis: Since we have final approval, of course I accept.
Gulgun grins and thanks Halis.
Ifakat looks unhappy.
Halis rises and tells Kazim they will have coffee upstairs.
Ferit asks Seyran what she thinks. He is grinning but not Seyran.
Gulgun: Incredible. My two beauties will shine.
Orhan tells Gulgun: I don’t want to deal with that woman. Please have someone else do it.
Gulgun: You used to like Defne. Why the change?
Orhan: Don’t start. How long has it been?
Gulgun nudges Orhan: I’m sure you’ve kept track of how long. I brought it up and my father agrees. I can’t cancel, especially now. It would be embarrassing.
Ferit is watching Orhan closely, knowing what he now knows.
Ifakat: You brought it up at the table so that nobody would oppose it.
Gulgun: It doesn’t bother me. Why do you have a problem?
Ifakat: Why, do I have a problem? Seyran, Suna ought to join you. She can support you and needs to get used to these kinds of activities. It should become familiar to you.
The sisters smile at this.
Everyone looks happy enough except for Orhan and Ifakat.

Outside, we see Sultan walking near the servant quart4ers. There’s a very self-assured Istanbul cat watching the house from the garden. We see Abidin waiting at the car. He is playing with his red bracelet (the gift from Suna).
Ferit walks with the sisters, enjoying the idea of the photo shoot.
Seyran: Do you know that woman, Ferit?
Ferit: No, I’ve never heard of her.
Suna: Maybe I misunderstood, but she said…
Seyran: No, sister, we think the same. I think it’s interesting that she’s your mother’s friend.
Ferit: Don’t let Dad’s appearance fool you.

Sultan comes walking toward the car. She tells Ferit she needs to speak with him.
He tells her to go ahead, but she wants to talk to him alone. Ferit tells S&S to get in the car and he will join them shortly.
Sultan: You might get upset, but I don’t know what to make of Seyran’s dream. Do you think someone saw us?
Ferit: What are you talking about. Saw us? Doing what? What are you talking about?
Sultan: I don’t know, Ferit. But asking for coffee in the morning, telling me about her dreams, it’s very strange. Maybe Yusuf saw us in the car and told her.
Ferit: I’ve told you a million times, Sultan. You’re getting too close. I told you not to do it. The truth is you were crying in the car, I heard you and I comforted you, nothing else.
Seyran is watching them.
Sultan: What do I do if she insinuates something again?
Ferit: The first think you should do is calm down. And smile, you’re exposing yourself. Your stupid attitude is drawing attention.
He walks away but turns: From now on, watch how you behave, Sultan. I won’t want you again. Or you’ll have to leave this house, understand?
He walks away.
Sultan has the last word to herself: Getting rid of me won’t be that easy.
Abidin and Ferit get in the car. Seyran: What did she say? What did you talk about?
Ferit: Are you going to question all my actions, dearest wife? She’s been very scared ever since you dreamed of her.
Seyran rolls her eyes: Ferit. Can you do a better job explaining?
Ferit: I told you it’s nothing. She asked if you were insinuating that she’d messed up somehow.
Seyran grins at this [I’m thinking BINGO!]. Seyran: What did you tell her?
Ferit: Nothing because I can’t imagine you’d be upset with her. But there is something that makes you uncomfortable. You should tell me. I don’t try to fix things by dreaming like you do.
Ferit: Abidin, let’s go.
Seyran: It’s fine, Ferit. Lies have the ring of truth to them, dreams don’t.
Ferit: These matters are beyond me. I’m not the lying type. All this dreaming and whatever is going on in your head. The Ferit you are trying to reach cannot be located.
Seyran: I know, dear. Sure, sure, sure.
Ferit notices Abidin’s bracelet. Ferit: What are you wearing on your wrist?
Ferit laughs. Abidin tells him it’s a bracelet. Suna smiles from the back seat.
Ferit continues: Wow, who gave it to you?
Abidin: I bought it.
Ferit: Sure you did, Abidin. What are you hiding? Do you think I’m stupid? I know you’d never buy yourself something like that.
Abidin: What? I saw it, and liked it, so I bought it. That’s all.
Ferit: Ahhh, mocking him.
He starts laughing. Seyran joins him.
Ferit: It’s obvious a girl gave it to you.
Seryan: Do you hear that?
Ferit: Something’s up with you. Who is this vixen who conquered your heart?
Abidin smiles at this and at Suna.
Ferit: My Abidin is all grown up. Who got it for you? Be honest.
Abidin: I told you that I bought it myself. I liked and bought it. That’s it.
Suna: I think it’s nice, Mr. Abidin. It looks good on you.
Abidin: Thank you, Ms. Suna.
Ferit: You know that’s not true! Why would a man choose to wear a red bracelet?
Seyran: Ay, you are such a Neanderthal, Ferit. Is that how you determine masculinity?
Ferit: That’s right, dear wife. Real men wear black and only black.
Seyran gives a big eye roll and leans on Suna.
Ferit continues: It’s part of the rules. I thought Abidin and I were on the same page, but he’s getting into colors and rainbows, and I support him.
Abidin: That’s enough, Ferit.
Seyran: Don’t listen to him, Abidin. He’s just jealous of you. In fact, Ferit, I’m going to buy you a red bracelet and see if you wear it.
Ferit: Fine, buy it, and we’ll see whether I wear it.
Seyran: I’ll bet you again, but you don’t pay your bets.

Ferit: Don’t bet with me. It wouldn’t go well for you because you don’t pay.
Seyran makes a face at him. He tells her to take it back.
Abidin is amused, and Suna smiles at him.

At the studio, a young red head greets Ferit: I’m Mine, Ms. Defne’s assistant. Welcome.
She turns to Seyran and Suna, but just briefly. She tells Ferit they will be taking him upstairs, if he’d like. Ms. Defne would like to greet him. Then we can get ready for the shoot after that. Ferit follows her.
She ignores the sisters, but they follow Ferit. They are noticing many things in the studio.
Mine: What can we get you, Mr. Ferit? She takes his coat.
Ferit: What about coffee?
Mine: How do you like your coffee?
Suna asks for the restroom. Mine rudely tells her it’s downstairs. [I’m pretty sure there’s one on the second floor, IMO]

Ferit raises his brows at this. Seyran tells Suna she will go with her.
Ferit is still so charmed he hasn’t noticed that Mine didn’t get Seyran or Suna’s orders.
Suna is angry by the time she’s downstairs again. Seyran: Calm down and tell me what happened.
Suna: Seyran, it’s that woman. She’s annoying.
Seyran: Can you please calm down.
Suna: Are you blind? That woman won’t stop flirting with Ferit. You need to be more observant. Take care of your man. That idiot was flirting with Ferit right in front of our faces. She’s got some nerve.
Seyran: This is nothing, sis.
Suna: What do you mean by that?
As they walk into the room, a striking woman with red hair turns to watch them. I’m thinking it’s Defne.
Seyran: If you only knew what I am dealing with.

Upstairs, Ferit’s coffee arrives.
Mine: We’ve been busy lately, but this month is really special. I’m so lucky.
Ferit: Thank you for saying that.
Mine: I was as surprised as everyone else when I heard you’d gotten married.
Just then, Seyran and Suna walk back in.
Seyran: Why were you so surprised?
Mine: I’ve been following Mr. Ferit for a long time and there were never any signs that he’d get married.
Suna: Mr. Ferit isn’t sending out any signs, but he’s right here now with his wife.
Ferit laughs at this.
Suna: Accept that and stop ignoring us.
Mine: I’m sorry if I did anything to offend you.
In walks Defne.
Defne: Mine.
Mine: Ms. Defne, our guests are here.
Defne: I see that. You can leave now. I’ll tend to our guests personally.
Seyran grins at this.

lunes – Part 1 of 2 We again see Leonor make sure that Sué gets the right glass of orange juice

Plácido calls Cruz saying that they urgently need to meet in person. His stated reason is solidifying the plan to kill Antonia in prison, but we know Miranda sent him the photo of Cruz and Graciela kissing.

Oscar talks with Misael. He tells him to forget about César and that César is brainwashing him, i.e., turning him gay.

When they meet in that warehouse, Plácido points a gun at Cruz, saying he’ll put one through his forehead. He asks if Cruz thought he could get away with having a thing with Graciela without his finding out. I’m really getting tired of the Plácido and Hernando Show. They have a mini fight. And then Cruz talks him out of killing him. H asks if Plácido ever got carried away by lust, and El Az remembers his time in the pickup truck with Leonor.

Ignacio rags on Oscar on the phone for being a homophobe. They have some kind of digital business plan together. Ignacio is sending Oscar all his savings.

Sué has begun to bleed. And, despite my belief, expounded upon in the last page, she miscarries. The doctor picks the wrong person to tell that there was an abortifacient in her blood. Leonor pulls Important Wife of Important Man on her and insists the doctor has to say it was natural.

El Az and Cocúla are talking with a guy who’s going into the prison to set up a suicide for Antonia. The guy they’ve recruited looks about 16 years old.

Fernando has had an interview to get back into the Fiscalía. He tells Adela it went well and she tells him she’s confident about his chances. Just then there’s a siren and flashing lights. There’s an evacuation of the building. All the prisoners are rushed out except for Antonia.

Antonia is struggling with El Az’s youthful assassin, and I keep expecting her to get the best of him. She almost does, getting out of the cell. But he manages to choke her out and then sloppily makes a rope out of a sheet.

El Az tells Cruz, who gets a big smile hearing that Antonia is dead. He practices his sad announcement. He and skeezy Fabio walk to the cell, but it’s empty. Fer and Adela have taken her down and to the infirmary.

lunes – Part 2 of 2 More drama with Miranda and Alejandro. He confronts her with her putting her sister’s life at risk by sending Plácido that photo with Cruz. She actually feels an unusual twinge of guilt about her sister. She calls Lobo and asks him to rescue Graciela.

Ale has Miranda put her phone on speaker when El Az calls. He hears him say that Antonia has been done away with. Ale gets indignant with Meranda for the 8th or 9th time, but doesn’t leave, of course.

Lobo sneaks into Graciela’s house. As he sneaks by, we overhear Oscar bragging about getting some lana from a fool (Ignacio). Magola is helping Lobo rescue Graciela. [She’s certainly done a180. She was the one who was supposed to be on Remedios’ side. I remember her finding those photos of Graciela with Gustavo and giving them to Remedios.]

The prison doctor believes that Antonia hung herself and that she’ll need psychiatric help. Eugenio rushes in. [Apparently you can walk right into this place.] Cruz shows up to announce the sad news to Adela, Fer, and Eugenio that Antonia did herself in. Adela lets him in on the fact that she’s not dead.

Lobo gets Graciela free from that chair.

Renata overhears “Mommie Dearest” telling Ale to get out if he doesn’t like the way she rolls. Renata: “You’re bad!”

Graciela has one leg out the window after Lobo when Remedios points a shotgun at her. We don’t see where Lobo went. Graciela starts trying to talk Remedios into some woman-to-woman solidarity. And the episode ends on that.

Novelera: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode.

*Just as I predicted from the beginning: Sue lost the baby due to Lady Macbeth's deadly concoction. Safe to say Sue will never have kids.

*Novelera: I'm also disgusted with the Placido & Hernando Show LOL.

*Adela & Fernando saved Antonia in the nick of time.

*Clingy Miranda is getting on my damn nerves.

*Feel sorry for Ignacio, but he will still get his Karma anvil in the end.

*Lobo rescuing Buji Goldie Locks. What could possibly go wrong? 🤔

Lobo

Thanks Novelera for the recap. I knew Nacho shouldn't give all his savings to Oscar, but I had missed Oscar's comment where he confirmed he was a scammer.

Miranda as "Mommie Dearest" - - that's good.

Note - on next Monday May 11, I will not be able to watch Lobo as I will be traveling out of town. I won't be able to catch up on Tuesday, either. Novelera, if you can do next Monday, I that would be great.

Thanks, Babachita. Your descriptions and insights are always excellent.

Just when I thought the Yusuf problem was done and dusted because he's having trysts with Dicle, he goes after Ferit again. When Seyran starts in with her hints about Sultan, Ferit doesn't bite. For once he's completely innocent and seems to miss the point.

I vaguely remember Sultan having an actual, current husband. But I can't remember if that's true or which cast member he might be.

Not only was Orhan caught at Ifakat's door, but she was also wearing a red, lacy thing. I kept hoping Ferit would tell Seyran about it so she could tell him what she saw between Orhan and Ifakat quite a while ago. I'd dearly love for the two of them to confront her, and Orhan as well. There needs to be some karma for this schemer.

Seyran, please. Block Yusuf on your phone!

I was a bit confused, Babachita, but you inserted a phrase about Ferit: "knowing what he now knows" indicating you believe he's sure his father and Ifakat are cheating on his mother. At one point it looked like he was convincing himself he'd misunderstood.

We have TWO resentful dogs in the manger always looking sullen: Yusuf and Sultan.

Thanks again, Babachita!

golden

I will recap the next one, either tonight or tomorrow, depending on energy level.

golden

Thank you Babachita. I was disappointed with the translations in this episode. Not your fault. Whoever did the translations did a weak job.

Ferit didn’t throw that pillow at Seyran on the couch, he let it go behind him just before he carried through on the motion to throw.

Dicle told Yusuf not to worry, her mom wouldn’t be back until Ifakat went to bed. I wonder how far Yusuf went with Dicle. And as we saw, Ifakat was not planning to go to bed alone! Anyway, that’s why Sultan was having coffee in the gazebo. She needed to straighten out and stay up in case Ifakat wanted her.

novelera, Sultan’s husband is Ibrahim, aka Ibo. He had curly, dark hair. He was Halis’ driver. He went back to his hometown to take care of his sick father.

Ferit busted his dad and aunt. My opinion—he must have figured it out, he’s not stupid, just in denial. It’s easier for him that way.

“Ferit: I’m too ungrateful.” He did not say that. He told Seyran, “nankör kedi seni” – you’re an ungrateful cat. Seyran didn’t say anything about knowing karate either.

After Kazim called her a dead fish, Esme said, the clock has struck twelve, this fairytale ends right here. Kazim told Hattuc that he was depressed after seeing Esme like that. He said she looked like a “medlar”. It’s a fruit that’s not very good looking and is sometimes referred to with a rude name [look it up]. At least Esme avoided sleeping with him.

When Ferit questioned Seyran about her dream, she didn’t use the term “mansplain”. I thought that was a weird translation. She said, okay, from now on you tell me how to explain my dreams. That was the only thing missing. He replies, I will tell you, my morning joy, of course I will tell you. And you will learn everything from me…everything! You are still a 19 year old girl… I’ll teach you everything… okay?

Ugh, the properties that Kazim looked at were 10 million dollars and 12 million dollars. And then they will give him house, too! Obviously Halis is doing all this for Hattuc.

When Kazim asked, how are you, Ferit answered in English—“like a bomb, Kazim Papa, like a bomb.” Kazim asked, what’s that mean? Ferit said it meant something very good. Kazim said, if you are “pumping”, I’ll “pump” it up too. He totally didn’t get it.

I lol’d: “Orhan looks unhappy, and, IMO, Ifakat always looks that way.” Something’s up with Defne. Both Orhan and Ifakat don’t want to deal with her.

“There’s a very self-assured Istanbul cat watching the house …” We see that cat from time to time. In some of the “behind the scenes” pics and videos posted, the cat is inside the house, too. I guess it “lives” at the yali.

The red bracelet scene in the car was nice. Suna and Abi make a nice couple.

Antonia recovers in the hospital under guard. Lobo comes to see her. They are worried about Renata.

Adela gets permission to investigate Cruz and his handling of the case. Cruz may be be brought up for a Congressional hearing. Cruz discusses this with Fabio, then Leonor. Leonor says Adela needs to be silenced.

Miranda goes to visit Gabriela. (Not sure how she knows where Gracie is.) Miranda looks sweet and sincere but I don't trust her.

Misael takes more drugs. Oscar is worried enough to call Cesar. Cesar comes accompanied by Leonor, who insisted in coming along. She decides to rake Misael to the hospital.

Eugenio and Zahie continue their friendship.

Renata misses Lobo, Antonia, Fer and Santi. She packs a bag to leave. Miranda finds it.

#49 – Part 1 of 3

We are at the photo shoot Gulgun wanted Ferit and Seyran to do as a favor to her friend Defne. In the front office we see that Defne’s assistant, Mine, is very interested in Ferit. She ignores Seyran and Suna and tells Ferit she was surprised to hear he got married. I didn’t think Ferit was giving her much encouragement. He’s just used to females gushing over him.

When Defne comes in and goes straight to greet Ferit, he reminds her Seyran and Suna are also here. Defne is gracious to Suna and Seyran, and both girls like her very much.

When they get to a changing room Defne sort of touches Ferit in his outfit and says she thought he worked out. Ouch! She goes on to say that both Ferit and his father are lucky to have married such beautiful women. She is really getting under his skin and says that he’s letting himself go.

Seyran comes out in a very high-end dress that is backless and that just about covers her bosom. She looks lovely, but Ferit objects. He may be right, considering how conservative the Korhans appear to be. But he’s also asserting himself after Defne wounded his male pride. Defne keeps poking at him, saying he looks like his mother, but is more like his father.

Seyran’s choice is a beautiful black dress. I’m a bit surprised at how very low cut the dress is. Jewels are shown; I think they belong to the Korhans. Seyran’s makeup is beautifully done. I am enjoying how happy and smiling Suna is, enjoying every minute of her sister’s preparations. Ferit’s hair is styled.

Defne tells Ferit again how lucky he is to have Seyran. And she goes on to say she doesn’t approve of women marrying so young without getting an education. She says that Gulgun made a mistake having a child so young, putting her dreams on hold. There’s a lot more of this back and forth. [From what I’ve seen of Orhan, maybe Defne has a point. But it’s surprising how she kept on and on with this.] Ferit tries to make a joke about his imprisoned mother, living on dry toast. Ferit is in a hurry to get the shoot over and done. But Seyran and Sun giggle at his sulky mood.

We see the photo shoot. At one point Seyran changes into a gorgeous, strapless blue gown and then another lovely red one. They pose as a loving couple. Some of the poses are pretty sexy. Then there’s an interview with a different woman that we don’t really hear. Defne looks on, smiling, and Suna takes a video. Defne invites them to an event. Ferit looks mutinous. Defne tells him he’s just like his father: jealous, sexist, and stubborn. She asks Seyran and Suna to give her a call sometime.

#49 – Part 2 of 3

Suna and Seyran are outside enjoying themselves, bubbling over about how much they admire Defne. Ferit is angry and says that she’s a bitter, frustrated woman. [I was a bit confused. Who’s right? Is Ferit just a big, sulky baby? Or is there something to what he says about Defne being jealous of their family? Maybe the writers were too subtle for me.]

Ferit says Defne talked about being jealous of Gulgun and about how much she liked Orhan. [Huh?] Seyran tells him he can’t bear being around any woman who doesn’t adore him. He gets defensive and says that he doesn’t care what an old, dull, ugly woman thinks of him. As Abidin drives away Ferit and Seyran continue to spar. He says he’ll tell his mother about this. She’s too naïve.

Hattuc and Halis, in sharp contrast to the quarreling Seyfer, have a moment together in his sitting room. She says she swore never to be here again. She knows he has a kind heart, but he can also be angry and stubborn. He asks if she knows what’s in his heart. He says they’ve been through a lot, both hurt many times. Let’s stop that. She replies they’re not yet broken, but much damage has been done. Halis wants to heal. He asks her to look at him. Since she came to Istanbul, there’s been a lot of problems. Let’s talk about the good things in life. Not about the past, but the future. She says she just wants to talk about what a beautiful day it is. He extends his hand, and she takes it.

Ferit gets out of the car and strides away in a huff. Esme seems very content, enjoying her time with Gulgun [and away from Kazim]. She asks for some of Sefika’s cookies, the ones she had the last time she was here.

Ferit comes in and insists on interrupting his mother. He starts in on Defne. He insists that Defne said things about Orhan’s past. Ifakat’s ears perk up. Gulgun just says that Defne is odd. And that Orhan was a ladies' man before they married. More concerned looks from Ifakat. Gulgun goes on to say that Defne and Orhan were close before his marriage. She told me not to marry him because he wasn’t worth it. That I could do better. [!!] I wonder what she’d have done if he’d proposed to her. Esme looks bemused at all this frank talk. Ifakat, as usual, tries to shut Gulgun down about saying private things.

Ay, Yusuf, the camel, has cornered Seyran and Suna outside to say that Ferit and Sultan are having an affair. Seyran mockingly urges him on. What did you see? Hugging in the car is the reply. Suna laughs out loud. He says he’ll prove it to her. [I say go back to Antep, you dog in the manger.]

In their room Seyran tries to talk Ferit into going to Defne’s event. He goes on another rant about Defne being jealous. [They aren’t agreeing about Defne, but their communication is way better than it was before.] Seyran agrees that it’s good for children to see a strong, independent mother.

#49 – Part 3 of 3

Ferit plans his seduction, grooming himself in the bathroom. Seyran is reading. He smiles and asks if it’s a romance. The reply is that it’s horror. After tossing away the book, he asks simply if maybe they should… For once Seyran doesn’t get angry. He patiently asks her if she thinks it’s normal that absolutely nothing has happened since they got married. Seyran: “What’s the problem?” He just gently scoffs at this. Seyran: Does this mean you like me? He smiles and asks if she wants his romantic side. The reply is that he can keep on being a jerk; he’s good at it. He rightly says there’s no pleasing her. Maybe he should go abroad again. She gets it that he means the earlier travel plan brought on the kiss. He assures her he’ll make sure she enjoys it if she gives him a chance. She’s not resisting as he moves in for a kiss.

Ay! Suna knocks, and Seyran invites her in. Hmm. Ferit put a pillow on his lap. Defne calls, and Suna and Seyran both want to go to the event. She’s sent the photos that were taken. Ferit admires them at first and then sees one that he thinks is too risqué. I can’t tell if he really thinks they’re inappropriate or he just can’t let Defne win. He says he’s going to tell Gulgun to stop the presses. Seyran smiles and says his mother will tell him what he wants to hear and let Defne publish anyway! Ferit then says he’ll talk with his father, triumphant at having the last word.

After he leaves Suna and Seyran agree that the photos are provocative. Kazim might have a heart attack.

Ifakat has come to Orhan’s home office wearing her usual come-hither look. She tries to lock the door, but Orhan says it’s broken. She asks if he wants her to wait until he finishes. He kneels in front of her. They are so obviously lovers. Ferit looks through the door that’s ajar and a tear runs down his cheek.

Ferit says he’s changed his mind. He’s manic and insists on going to Defne’s event. Seyran senses that something has happened and asks what it is. He denies that anything happened; he just changed his mind. As they’re about to leave, they encounter Orhan. He looks surprised and asks where they’re going. Ferit is defiant and won’t tell him. Seyran is shocked at his disrespect toward his father.

Abidin wonders why they’re going out. Ferit is in a temper in the car. Then, when they’re inside the disco where the event is happening, Abidin doesn’t sit with Ferit, Seyran, and Suna. He stands guard. Ferit drinks shot after shot. He gets on the dance floor, and Seyran finally gets up to dance with him. They do look like they’re enjoying themselves. Abidin looks worried. He’s seen this side of Ferit before.

Anastasia: Howdy from the Alamo City. Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode & here's my personal thoughts.

*Adela needs to watch her back ASAP because I have a gut feeling that she's in danger of getting whacked.

*If Adela does get whacked, Hugo might need to watch his back too.

*Miranda is determined to getting rid of anyone, who's standing in her way, I have zero confidence in Buji Goldie Locks making it to the Gran Final of this Telenovela.

*Jackass Big Ed was about to shoot the maid right there on the spot. The dude is stewing over Buji Goldie Locks escaping.

*Lobo & Antonia facing more roadblocks.

*Hugo & Fernando watching the meeting between Buji Goldie Locks & Jackass Big Ed: What could possibly go wrong?

Great recap, novelera. Interesting observations.

Defne offered a cautionary tale to Seyran and Suna. Don’t be like Gulgun. Defne seems to be a very “modern” woman. Ha, she didn’t want to be called hanim or abla. But Ferit calls her Defne Teyze (Aunt Defne). He means it as a slight, not respect. Like she’s too old to be called hanim or abla. She gave it right back to him about his “unusual bone structure”.

“… Is Ferit just a big, sulky baby? Or is there something to what he says about Defne being jealous of their family?...” Ferit is often a big, sulky baby. I get the feeling that Defne thinks she dodged a bullet by not becoming a Korhan.

When Ferit turned down the invite to the evening event, Defne mocked, “our padishah decreed it”. Padishah is like saying king of kings. Later Ferit assumed the padishah title when he said the pictures won’t be published—"padishah said no!”

Afra does a lot of work as a brand ambassador outside of acting. She’s in clothes similar to what we saw in the ep. Some are very revealing. Mert does some ad stuff too. I suppose a lot of popular actors do. Afra and Mert did promotional shoots together, too. They really have chemistry.

Seyran was reading “Wuthering Heights”. She told Ferit it was a “psychological thriller”.

Lol. I wondered if anyone would pick up on Ferit’s pillow placement after Suna came to the room. He told Suna, I wish I hadn’t kidnapped you so you could have married that man.

Uh oh, Ferit is in “drowning sorrows” mode.

Thanks, Anastasia. I watched the episode last night but burned myself out on the golden recap and just went to bed.

Your recap was a master class in how to do a short recap! You hit all the high spots and left Viewerville lots of room to comment.

The had the same thought. How did Miranda get to where Graciela was staying? The only thing that came to mind was that tech wizardry that Alejandro seems to possess. We already saw him tracking Lobo's phone once.

Renata, rightly I think, sort of trusts Alejandro. She told him how she felt about being away from Lobo and Antonia. Sometimes, if I don't read or put something up myself soon enough the details get fuzzy. I am now wondering if Renata told Ale or her mother that she felt like Lobo, Antonia, Fernando and Santi were her family.

Leonor surprised me by giving a rat's patootie about Misael. Of course, she reverted to Lady Macbeth again later in the show by telling Cruz Adela needed to disappear.

lobo

I will do a recap tonight, probably short.

Lobo

Miércoles Graciela does a masterful manipulation of Plácido. He’s raving with jealousy about her bedding Cruz. She tells him she went to bed with Cruz to learn of his plans against El Az. She impugns his manhood, saying Antonia was an easier target than going after Cruz. This hits the right button, and he admits that he lied about Antonia being in business with him because she shot him in the leg.

Miranda needs to see if she can find a copy of Dr. Spock’s book on childcare. She is really bungling her relationship with Renata. When Renata says she doesn’t love her mother anymore, her solution is locking her in her room. But she left her phone there and Renata calls Lobo, who’s with Antonia.

Sué confides in Zahie about her suspicions that Leonor being so specific about where she sat at the breakfast table meant she was meant to drink that very glass of juice. Glad to see she’s not fooled by Leonor’s fake acceptance of her.

Miranda catches Renata speaking with Lobo and Antonia. She orders them to stay away, or she’ll send a cazarecompensas (bounty hunter, a new word for me). Renata is outraged.

Graciela puts Cruz in a corner with the recording of El Az confessing he set Antonia up.

Lobo shows up to confront Miranda. He walks right into the patio. Where’s those security guys? Lobo has come to ask her to not keep Renata from them. Miranda tells Lobo she loves him. It was always him. His reply is that the only woman for him is Antonia.

Misael had his stomach pumped. He’s grateful to Leonor. Remedios comes to embrace her grandson. She wants him to come home and tell his father that he broke it off with César. She just wants him to be discreet.

Renata overhears Miranda say she always loved Lobo.

Leonor gets a threat from El Az against her children and goes nuts on Cruz and Graciela. Looks like most of the Fiscalía overheard.

Antonia’s charge about conspiring with El Az is dropped. They still have some nitpicking about how she did her job regarding working with Lobo back when he was Public Enemy #1, but she can go home.

Some representative of the Senate gives Cruz a letter saying he’s relieved of duty.

Antonia comes to see Leonor looking for an ally against Cruz.

Lobo says he’s decided to stay away from Renata. He’ll have some professional people go to the border with them. As I had a suspicion about, Miranda shouts “Renata is your daughter!”

"LOBO"
Novelera: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode.

*Remedios wants Misael to be discreet? Like that's going to be holding LOL.

*Buji Goldie Locks still living for now, but she keeps making out with Slippery Cruz.

*Lady Macbeth is determined to have Adela whacked & the previews for tonight's upcoming episode tells me "RIP Adela".

*Antonia released from the hospital HORRAY.

*Zahie might want to get Sue out of the Cruz house of horrors ASAP.

*Now we know Maury Povich made a guest appearance with Clingy Miranda blurting out Lobo is Renata's father.

Lobo

Yep - I knew from the first episode that Renata was Lobo's daughter. I put that in my recap of episode 1.

Lobo

Graciela has mad skills. She got Azufrero to admit that he lied about Antonia being his accomplice. And she was tasked as the only Good Guy that Cruz would listen to, to have Cruz listen to Azu's confession. She played the romance card to get Cruz to release Antonia.

Apparently Azu thinks Cruz set Graciela up with sharpshooters to get his confession? The essence of Azu's phone call to Leanor.

Fabio, or the actor playing Fabio, was less impacted or surprised by Cruz being relieved of his duties. Perhaps Fabio is next in line to be Acting Fiscal.

Miranda gave permission to the guards to let Lobo in the house. She tried hard to get Lobo to stay away from Renata, but when he said he would stay away from her as well, she played her last card to get him to stay in her life. Agree Maury Povich and Dr. Phil are salivating over this plot.

I guess Antonia wants to oink up with Leonor against Cruz because Adela reported to Anta about the big fight Cruz and Leonor had in the office.

lobo

Steve, you need to carefully read the two pages Juanita and I put up for Telemundo on alternate weeks. We've always interpreted the words about not discussing previews to mean the bits they show at the end. You have commented about those previews twice recently. I always carefully stop my recording at the very last scene so as to not view those. I am now considering skipping your comments going forward.

OT

Do we know why we don't discuss previews on Caray? They are part of the presentation. I know that discussing previews was part of Game of Thrones blogs and is part of Below Deck community commentary. These shows also stream.
