I’ll start 51 tonight. Might be sometime tomorrow that I post.

lunes – Part 1 of 2 We return to the ghastly scene that was in the previews I did not watch. Eugenio is not in the place where Adela and Antonia live. But 3 thugs are there. They put a plastic bag over Adela's head while she gasps for air. But the bag is removed. What they want is for Adela to call Antonia.

I’m hoping for many, many years in prison for Cocula, ideally in a prison full of guys who want to make him their girlfriend. The three are masked, but those kind of bugged out eyes identify him, at least for me. He tells Adela that Antonia has a date with La Huesuda. [The bony one; in Mexico death is female.] When he’s told she’s not there, he orders her to call and tell Antonia to come alone. When she doesn’t do so, he runs his pistol over her suggestively.

Zahie and Eugenio appear to have really enjoyed their “time” together. When he makes noises about getting out of bed, he assures her that he’s not married, just concerned that his daughter and her friend, now like another daughter, might worry. Back in the mode of information gathering, he asks her if there are cameras recording things in the bordello. She’s a bit concerned about the patrons’ privacy. But, long story short, he gets to see her security recordings. When she leaves the room, he copies a video of Cruz giving Plácido some money.

Cocula has the Junior thugs tie Adela’s wrists. He taunts her in her bedroom, then pretty clearly rapes her.

Leonor can’t resist telling El Az that Graciela was recording him when he changed his version of Antonia’s being his accomplice. When he threatens to kill both Graciela and Cruz, Leonor says she wouldn’t mind.

Cocula admires Adela but then raises his gun. Lobo rushes in and saves Adela. Antonia is in the other room with her gun trained on the masked henchies. In the struggle with Lobo and Cocula, the gun goes off. Antonia is startled and, bottom line, all three get away. Antonia tells Adela they came because she wasn’t answering her phone.

Cruz gets a call from a very worried Graciela. He assures her he’ll fix the losing his job thing. They declare their love.

Lobo manages to shoot the Lesser Thugs, but Cocula gets away.

Adela tells Antonia what happened, while Antonia holds her.

Cocula brags to Lobo in an alley about what he did to Adela. He says he’ll do the same to Antonia.

lobo

lunes – Part 2 of 2 Leonor tells Plácido that, yes, she has a thing for him, but not right now. She’s come to get his assurance he won’t harm her sons. She also promises to keep César away from Misael.

El Az sends Tuqueque after Cruz, surmising that Graciela and Cruz might be together.

Cocula calls to check in with Cruz. He has to admit he failed, but he says that the lawyer will remember him for the rest of her life. Cruz is disgusted by the hint of rape. He angrily says that Cocula was a big man with a woman but peed himself when it came to Lobo.

Hugo and Lobo set the scene as if the two guys Lobo shot had killed each other in a gunfight.

Santiago and Fernando have come to, I think, the courthouse to finish up the paperwork for getting married. [For years, IIRC, same sex marriage was only legal in Mexico City, but it’s now legal in all states.] A kindly judge marries them while a man and woman, seemingly there for the same reason, applaud.

Adela says she’s seen too many women treated badly by the police when they bring charges of rape. She plans not to put herself through it.

There’s a long, rather repetitive scene where Hugo wants to see Adela. But Adela has told Antonia she needs to be alone. Eventually she relents and it seems she has told Hugo what happened. He carefully doesn’t touch her but tells her she’s not alone.

Lobo gets the DNA results on his phone. But it’s time for a commercial, of course. Yep, he’s Renata’s biological father and very happy about it. Lobo rightly worries about Renata learning that Gustavo was not her father, along with everything else that’s happened to her.

Cruz has come to meet Graciela after she insisted. They cross a street, and we see Tuqueque and another punk in a car. El Az orders him to kill them. They do a drive-by with Tuqueque shooting an automatic rifle of some sort. But they manage to miss both targets.

Eugenio returns home and begins to show Antonia the video he copies. He’s sure this will permanently sink Cruz, showing he’s in business with El Azufrero.

Lobo comes to see Miranda. Alejandro tells him that Miranda doesn’t live here anymore. The petty, jealous jerk tells Lobo he’ll never see Renata again.

"LOBO"
Novelera: Enjoyed reading your recap of last night's episode. I also was disgusted with Cocula raping Adela like that 😭.

*Slippery Cruz & Buji Goldie Locks are still breathing? These two are going to be lucky if they get life imprisonment.

*Novelera, I smirked at your reference about those folks at the prison itching to make Cocula their new booty call LOL.

*Jackass Big Ed & Lady Macbeth both need to die painful deaths. It's only a matter of time before Antonia & Eugenio figure out that Lady Macbeth killed Guillermina & I've got a gut feeling someone will speak up.

*Alejandro is one piece of work LOL.

*Maury Povich confirming to Lobo that he is Renata's father HORRAY. However, I'm worried about Clingy Miranda brainwashing the kid.

*I wonder if Zahie realizes that Eugenio mighg be playing her like a fool 🤔

Thanks Novelera for the recap! I had to check whether Adela survived before we get back on the road to travel home. Glad they are following convention and keeping the main characters alive no matter how improbable their rescues.

Sorry to hear about what Cócula did. On Thursday his back was mostly turned to the camera, so I wasn't sure in the quick scene he was there.

I imagine that Miranda and Renata are on their way to San Ysidro.
Alejandro will probably catch u to them and es..., accompany them.

Golden Boy – Yali Capkini – Poder y traicion
Episode 51 #1 of 9
“A Complicated Proposal”

Seyran is with Ferit in the bed, lying close and has reached over to hold his hand to comfort him. They are at Defne’s home.
Ferit: I’m sorry, Seyran.

The next morning, Latif knocks on Ifakat’s door. She thinks something must have happened because it’s so early. He apologizes, but he tells her there will be a guest coming for breakfast. It’s a friend of Gulgun. Ifakat reacts suddenly, asking why he didn’t tell her earlier that a guest was coming. He tells her that Ferit called and told him he and Seyran had stayed out.
Latif: Abidin went to get them and they are coming here.
Ifakat: Seyran came back last night. When did she leave? Whose permission did she get?
Latif: She just left ma’am. We were all sleeping. She didn’t say anything. I was informed early this morning.
Ifakat: That’s not how things should work.
Latif makes a face: You shouldn’t be saying these things to me but rather to the bride whom Mr. Halis gave you the responsibility of training. I am not Ms. Sultan, Ms. Ifakat. Be careful.
Latif turns and leaves.

Abidin drives the SUV into the compound. Defne looks around the yali, looking a little wistful. Ferit watches her from the SUV before getting out. Seyfer follow Defne, holding hands.
Ferit: Hey, Defne. There’s no need to run. It’s this way.
Inside we see Sultan and Dicle setting the table. Carlos goes to Orhan, Gulgun, and Ifakat, sitting in the living room: Mr. Orhan, our guests are here. Mr. Latif has received them.
Gulgun thanks him and asks him to tell Fuat, Asuman, and Suna that breakfast is ready.
Orhan: I can’t believe you’re associating with that woman at a time like this.
Gulgun: A time like this? I’m not the one who invited her to breakfast. Besides, what’s wrong with her coming over? She took good care of our kids.
Ifakat: First, your son and his wife should explain where they spent the night.
Gulgun smiles: With Defne. They sent me a text. What’s the problem?
Ifakat: What? Is this a hotel? They come and go as they please.
Orhan: Did you say they stayed with Defne?
Gulgun: Yes, and they let me know. They’re not children. They’re adults. Think about it. They’re going to be parents soon. Are we going to try to control them? (Looking at Ifakat). Don’t do anything to embarrass Ferit and Seyran while Defne’s here.
Ferit, Seyran, and Defne enter the yali. Gulgun hugs Defne and tells her she is welcome. She thanks her, watching Orhan. Gulgun tells her she is lovely and hasn’t aged a day.
Defne: Thank you. You’re so nice. You are radiant as always.
Ferit holds Seyran’s hand hard and is very impactado.

Episode 51 #2 of 9
Ifakat greets Defne. Ferit glares at Ifakat. Ifakat tells Defne she thinks they met many years ago. Defne looks confused, but she finally says she recognizes her.
Orhan approaches and tells her welcome. Defne tells them all that she hopes she isn’t being a bother: The idea to come over came up so suddenly.
Ifakat: Don’t say that. Our doors are open to all.
Defne: We’d never have seen each other if I’d waited for an invitation.
Seyran tugs on Ferit’s arm.
Gulgun tells Defne that’s not the case, that she would have invited her.
Ifakat ushers everyone into the dining room.
While eating, Ferit has his angry face as he looks at Ifakat.
Gulgun asks if he is OK. He hasn’t touched his food.
Ferit: I’m not hungry, thank you. I’m nauseous. (He looks straight at Ifakat when he says this.)
Gulgun checks to see if he has a fever: Do you think you’re getting sick? Do you have a fever?
Ferit: No, Mom, I’m fine. Defne took good care of us.
Defne: I thought I could finally meet the famous Halis Korhan today. I’m curious about how he’ll react to the photos of Seyran.
Gulgun: Now that he’s older, he almost always has breakfast alone in his room, but I must tell you that I loved the photos you sent last night. Did you choose your favorites, Ferit?
Ferit: Ah no, we were talking about the past. Defne had a lot to share. In fact, I learned a lot about my father that I didn’t know.
Ferit looks directly at his father, who is looking a little uncomfortable.
Orhan: Such as?
Ferit: I heard that my father was called “Golden Boy,” isn’t that right?
Seyran coughs and Fuat looks skeptical: Are you serious? Why? (Fuat grins at this.)
Ferit: Because of his reputation. Defne told me everything. I knew some things about Dad, but I didn’t know what a ladies’ man he was in his youth. It was surprising.
Ferit continues to stare at Orhan and Ifakat.
Defne: Let’s not talk about what we were but about what we’re going to be, right? Orhan changed when your mother came into his life.
Ferit: That’s right.
Orhan: These matters shouldn’t be discussed this early.
Ferit: Why not, Dad? I like to talk about these things.
Seyran is trying to get his attention by holding and putting pressure on Ferit’s hand.
Ferit: I’m glad Defne’s back in Istanbul. Over time, maybe we’ll find out more about who you really are.
Orhan: Ferit…please.
Ifakat: I think you’ll be too busy to be meeting with Ms. Defne.
Defne: Oh, I was thinking about how to bring it up. Thanks for doing it. I’d like to meet with Seyran more often.
Gulgun: Why?
Defne: You know Efe Han. He wanted to work with someone famous for his new collection but couldn’t find anyone interesting. So, I sent him pictures of Ferit and Seyran. He loved them. He wants to work with Seyran.

Episode 51 #3 of 9
Seyran: What? Why?
Defne: Well, if you agree to it, they’d like to create a special collection for you. The proceeds would go to girls in Anatolia who can’t go to school. Don’t think of it as business, think of it as a social awareness project. Of course, you would be paid for it.
Gulgun smiles and nods at this idea.
Ferit: There’s no way that’s happening.
Asuman: Why do you say that, Ferit? I think it’s incredible. What a nice project. I love it.
Gulgun: So, it’s not just any company. It’s a prestige brand. I really like the idea.
Ferit has his storm cloud face.
Defne: Seyran, you’ll be in all the magazines, social media ads, and ads all over the world.
Ifakat: You think Mr. Halis would agree to everything just because she’d be on a magazine cover?
Orhan: There’s no need for it. Besides, Seyran doesn’t like being in the limelight. She’s not an attention seeker.
Defne: Please, father and son, would you let Seyran share her opinion on the matter?
Seyran: Honestly, I’m very surprised. I wasn’t expecting something like this. The idea for scholarships for girls in Anatolia moved me. It made me happy.
Ferit is staring at Seyran now: Let’s discuss this alone in our room, OK, dear?
She agrees.
Defne: But Seyran should speak with Efe before accepting or not. (Seyran nods at this.) I do know he’s traveling abroad tomorrow, so he’s expecting our answer.
Ifakat: There’s no need to wait. It’ll never happen.
Defne and Gulgun look at one another.
Seyran sits forward: I’d like to know the details. What if I only talk to him? Nothing wrong with that.
Ifakat: My dear Seyran, you can’t make this decision on your own. It’s about our family.
Gulgun does sort of an elegant eyeroll at this.
Seyran: Why? Doesn’t it only concern me? Shouldn’t it be my decision? Besides, if this project will change the life of a girl in a vulnerable situation, why not do it?
Ifakat: If Seyran Sanli had received this offer, you’d be right. But it’s obvious they only want to work with you because you’re Seyran Korhan now. That’s why every member of this family has a say in this decision. You need to accept the fact that any decision you make affects us all.
Seyran laughs a bit: I understand that, but like I said before, I’d like to hear the details. (Ferit turns to look directly at her.) It’s fine. If our primary concern is the family, it’s important to know.
Gulgun: If it were only about our last name like you say, then we would all be getting offers like this. But, we haven’t, which means it’s not about our last name. I support my daughter-in-law.
Seyran smiles and sits back.
Orhan: I doubt Mr. Kazim would approve. Not to bring up unpleasant memories, but I don’t want to go through that again.
Seyran: Then I’ll ask for permission.

Episode 51 #4 of 9
Defne: I think working with a brand like that would not be detrimental to your family or to Seyran’s. Quite the opposite. In fact, it would bring you more recognition. But, if it’s so important, discuss it as a family and let me know. Sorry, but I have to go now. I have a meeting in Etiler.
Ferit: I also have business in Etiler. If you don’t mind, Defne, I can take you. (Orhan’s expression is priceless at hearing this!)
Defne: I accept, but we have to leave soon.
Ferit: We will, don’t worry. But first, can we speak in private, wife?
As he stands up, Ferit throws his napkin forcefully toward the table, giving a hint of his mood.
They go up to the attic suite and sit down.
Seyran: Look, Ferit, I know what you’re going to say.
Ferit: If you do, then you know the position you put me in down there.
Seyran: I don’t understand.
Ferit: You forced me to agree with those two liars that I hate.
Seyran: You don’t have to. You could have taken my side, and we could have come here and made a decision in private.
Ferit: No, we’re not deciding anything, Seyran. It’s not happening, so let’s just drop it, period.
Seyran: Why, Ferit? What’s the big deal? I really don’t understand your reaction. Can you tell me why I shouldn’t participate in this project? Give me one reason.
Ferit: All you need is one good reason?
Seyran: That’s right, but a real reason.
Ferit: Well, I don’t want you to. It’s that simple. What do you want me to say?
Seyran: Are you messing with me? You call that a real reason?
Ferit: I’m serious. I don’t want my wife out there for all to see, and I don’t want my wife to go to meetings with men I don’t know. Simple as that. What the hell’s your problem? First Defne, now this. Just what I needed. Please don’t try to drive me crazy.
Seyran: Ferit, youre being an idiot again. He’d only be sharing details about the project. Nothing is set in stone. It doesn’t mean anything. Does it mean nothing to you that I’d be changing the lives of so many girls by doing something so simple? Does it really mean nothing to you? It’s an incredible project.
Ferit: You want to change those girls’ lives? Fine, we’ll make a donation to those girls in Anatolia in your name and that’ll be that. Don’t use this as an excuse.
Seyran: I’m not, Ferit. We can do it anyway. The project would be the donation, why don’t you get that?
Ferit gives a scary laugh: I do get it. I get what you’re trying to do. Who’s Efe, and what do they want from you? I’m sorry, but he can work with someone else. Why you?
Seyran: How about you be honest with me. Tell me you don’t want me doing anything on my own and that you don’t want me making my own money. Go ahead. Tell me. I’m listening.
Ferit, with clenched teeth: Seyran, look, I’m trying not to lose my temper, but you’re not leaving me much choice. As always, you make me out to be the bad guy, and you have no idea how it affects me for you to put me in this position. Why do you do that to me?
Seyran: I understand how you feel, and I’ve been supportive, but I don’t get what this has to do with us. You know what the problem is? When you feel bad, you want everyone else to feel bad. Don’t you realize you’re doing that? But you don’t care about others’ feelings, do you?

Episode 51 #5 of 9
Ferit: Wow. You get an offer and transform into a different person. I see why you’re so anxious. You’ve been waiting for this moment, haven’t you?
Seyran: Of course, I’ve been waiting for nothing, Ferit. Watch your mouth.
Ferit: It’s more than obvious and I’ve had enough. You’re not doing this, you hear me?
Seyran: So, you’re deciding it?
Ferit: That’s right. I’m the decider. Unfortunately, Ifakat was right. If your last name weren’t Korhan, neither Defne nor Efe would bother to look at you. You understand?
Ferit leaves the room, and Seyran is very impactada. She’s is crying and gives several big sighs. It’s obvious this hurts her very much.
Orhan catches Ferit on his way down. Ferit is trying to make a call, but no answer. 10-to-1 it’s to Pelin.
Orhan: Why are you behaving like this lately, son? You stay out; you invited people over without permission.
Ferit: Does it bother you that we stayed out, or is it because we stayed with Defne?
Oehan: Watch your attitude with me, Ferit.
Ferit: OK, I will. (Ferit has his scary smile here.)
Orhan: I try to get along with all, but keep in mind that you can’t act like I’m your friend, you understand?
Ferit: My mother didn’t think it was so important. Why are you so upset? Things between you ended, didn’t they?
Orhan: Don’t be ridiculous. Nothing ever happened between us.
Ferit: OK, if you say so. Anyway, I shouldn’t keep Defne waiting. I’m leaving.
Orhan: No, wait. Don’t talk to her anymore, OK? Let Abidin take her. (Now Orhan has a scary look on his face.)
Ferit: I wouldn’t be making the trip if I had nothing to do. I don’t plan on being with her, so calm down.
Orhan: If you don’t speak to me respectfully, I’ll have to teach you to.
Ferit makes a rueful smile and leaves.
He and Defne walk out of the yali together. Ferit asks her why a woman like her doesn’t have a car and driver. She asks him who told her she didn’t have one. Ferit realizes she didn’t call her driver because she wanted to get a ride with him. She congratulates him on finally waking up. When they get to the SUV, Ferit puts her in the passenger seat and takes the keys from Abidin.

Up in the attic suite, Seyran and Suna are talking. Seyran is pacing back and forth. Suna tells her she needs to calm down. She says that if what Ferit says is true, why haven’t Asuman or Gulgun received offers like that. She reminds Seyran that Ferit says things without thinking when he’s upset. Suna tells her to relax, but Seyran asks how can she. She is upset that Ferit said she wouldn’t have gotten such an offer if she wasn’t a Korhan. She says he is telling her she is worthless. Suna turns this around and asks if Ferit weren’t a Korhan, who’d give him a second thought. Seyran laments that she didn’t think of saying that at the time. Suna tells her to think about the offer. She would be making her own money for the first time in her life. That’s what she should be thinking about. She tells her there will be more offers after this one. [I’m struck by how logical Suna is about this. The two sisters have different strengths and complement each other very well.]

Episode 51 #6 of 9

There’s a knock at the door. Oh boy, it’s Sultan. She asks if they are available. Seyran reminds her that Dicle handles their room. She asks Sultan what the problem is. Sultan tells her she is there because Ms. Ifakat sent her to tell Suna that she is not feeling well today, so Suna can go home if she’d like. After Seyran closes the door behind Sultan she shivers, saying how annoying Sultan is.
Suna: Look at me. Yesterday you got in an argument with Ferit because of that woman.
Seyran denies this and asks why she said that.
Suna: Don’t obsess over her just because of what Yusuf said. Just thinking about it is funny. She is the same age as his mother.
Seyran agrees with Suna. But she tells her that Sultan has been acting weird since Seyran first arrived. Seyran doesn’t know why Sultan doesn’t like her and asks Suna her opinion. Suna wisely says it’s just what it is and not everyone is going to like us.

In the SUV, Ferit asks Defne who this Efe is.
Ferit: He wants to work with my wife and make her the face of the brand and all. That’s not happening. Talk to him and reject the offer. (Ferit punctuates this command with his forefinger raised.)
Defne sighs deeply: I will be honest with you. Efe’s been looking for someone for this project for a while without success. Even if I tell him no, he won’t give up. He never does. Don’t take what you see in the press so seriously. All he cares about is his job.
Ferit: What did they say about him in the press?
Defne: I’m not going to talk about that.
Ferit: If you don’t tell me, I’ll just look it up. Don’t make me mad. What did they say?
Defne: There are rumors about him and the people he works with, but they’re just rumors. Nothing’s been proven. Besides, I know him, and he’s a decent man. If you met him, you’d get along. You’re very similar, except he’s more mature and serious about his job.
Ferit: If we’re so similar, tell him to find another face for his brand. Tell him it’s a message from Seyran’s husband. Is that clear?
Defne isn’t convinced and suggests they end the conversation.
Ferit, angrily: I’m not ending it! I’m very annoyed right now, I’m sorry. I need to calm down. How about we have some coffee? Please?
Defne looks less than thrilled with this.

Back at the yali, Orhan walks outside and is surprised to see Abidin. He asks Abidin what happened. Abidin tells him that Ferit left with Ms. Defne.
Orhan: Why wasn’t I informed? Did we hire you just to stand here like a scarecrow?
Orhan repeats the question just when the sisters walk up.
Orhan: Are you going rogue on me or something?
Abidin: Of course not, Mr. Orhan. Ferit said he had to speak with Ms. Defne in private. There was nothing I could say.
Orhan: Who is your boss?
Suna is clearly impactada for this pulling rank over Abidin.
Orhan: I asked you a question. Answer me! Who pays your salary, me or Ferit?
Abidin and Suna glance at one another before Abidin answers that Orhan pays his salary.

Episode 51 #7 of 9
Orhan: Then act like it.
Suna clears her throat and Orhan whips around. Apparently, he didn’t know the sisters were there. He walks off and gets in his vehicle. Suna looks at Abidin with sympathy. Seyran tells him everyone is nervous today and not to pay too much attention to him. He nods but is obviously very impactado. Suna looks at him, caressing him with her eyes.

Ferit and Defne are having coffee. She asks him if he has calmed down, if he is feeling better. He replies that coffee always helps. He apologizes for yelling at her and admits it was rude on his part. He asks for her forgiveness.
Defne: Relax, it’s fine. I was having fun. You behave like a little kid when things don’t go your way. It’s so funny.
Ferit: You love to call me a child, don’t you? Stop it.
Defne: And if I don’t? Will you get mad at me? (Ferit grins when she says this.)
They both laugh. She tells him that’s better, to laugh and be happy.
Ferit: You know what would make me happy? [I’m thinking, here we go again!]
Defne: What’s that?
Ferit: Don’t let her take that job.
Defne tosses her head, and I think she is rolling her eyes surreptitiously.
Ferit: Call Seyran and tell her it fell through. You don’t need to explain anything. Please.
Defne: Out of curiosity, what are you so anxious about? Are you jealous of your wife?
Ferit: You can’t be serious. What’s this got to do with jealousy? I’m just worried. This is about her, not me. (Defne sighs audibly.) If she goes through with this, she’ll probably work with someone else later and keep doing this kind of work. She’d be involved with the media, and I hate the press. Some people will like her; others will hate her. Everyone would talk about her, and she’d be part of a world that she doesn’t know. Why do you think I married Seyran? You think I couldn’t find anyone from my environment? Of course I could. But Seyran’s not like the other girls I knew. That’s why she’s my wife. [Well, that’s not quite how it went! Interesting that Ferit has internalized the family decision to marry him to someone not from Istanbul.] If she accepts this job, she’d become another one of them. Now do you understand?
Defne: Alright, I get it. You’re scared, aren’t you? You’re losing your mind at the thought of Seyran being a part of this world, fending for herself and having others like her.
Ferit’s smiles sarcastically. Then he laughs: That was funny. I didn’t think you had such a good sense of humor.
Defne: I’m curious, Ferit. Will Seyran be confused and run off with someone else? Is that what you think will happen?
Ferit, deadly serious: What are you trying to say?
Defne: You know what I’m talking about. Get over it, Ferit. When someone on the outside looks at you, they might see a self-confident man with solid features. (He smiles at this.) But the truth is, given your behavior, that’s not true. Learn to trust your relationship. Also, there’s no such thing as a sure thing. Whatever she’s thinking of, she’ll do eventually anyway. You can try to lock her in a cage with you, but it won’t work.
Ferit: Wow, the woman who was dying to kiss me and told me not to play with fire is telling me this?
Defne’s phone rings. She tells Ferit she is going to be late to her meeting.
Defne: I’ll leave you with your hallucinations. Save your energy for your wife, not for me.
She takes her handbag and leaves.
Ferit holds his head and looks like he feels that he’s losing control.

Episode 51 #8 of 9

At the Sanli home, Kazim is enjoying his morning coffee with Hattuc. He asks her why she thinks they are coming alone. Hattuc asks why he is surprised. She reminds him their place is still Suna’s house, and Seyran might want to see her mother. Kazim doesn’t look convinced.
Kazim: If Seyran wanted to see her mother, she’d come with Ferit. There’s something strange going on. I’m sure of it.
Hattuc: Stop imagining things. I saw you in tears hugging Mr. Halis. What’s changed?
Kazim: Because I was very upset and that’s how it had to be, but there’s something else on my mind, Auntie.
Hattuc bites: What’s on your mind, Kazim?
Kazim: We can die at any moment. We’re here today, but we might be gone tomorrow. Death could come for us at any point. I’m thinking of what comes after Halis, of the future.
Hattuc angrily: Don’t talk like that. I don’t believe you, I really don’t.
She stands as she hears the doorbell and walks away leaving Kazim planning and plotting.
Kazim, to himself: You think we’re going to live forever? So now I can’t talk about Halis? As if he’s not going to die.
Esme opens the front door to her daughters. They are so happy to see one another.
Hattuc joins them: Girls, is it good news or bad?
Suna: Ms. Ifakat’s sick. That’s why I came.
Hattuc: What about you (to Seyran)? What’s wrong?
Seyran: It’s nothing bad this time, Auntie.
Esme: But something happened, right?
Seyran: Yes.
After hearing about the offer, Hattuc is adamant: Absolutely not. Your father would beat you if you told him that.
Seyran: Not if you’re by my side, Auntie.
Hattuc: This is not something to say yes to. This cannot happen, Seyran. A Sanli cannot leave her home and her work. She must look after her husband. The rest means nothing.
Esme: Auntie, she wants it so bad. Could you accept it, just this once?
Hattuc: I worked so hard to keep this home together. I can’t just destroy it. What would we tell Mr. Halis? There’s no excuse. Why work when you have it all?
Seyran: I know you can do it, Auntie. Convince Dad.
Suna and Esme join in: Please, Auntie.
Suddenly, the dulcet tones of Kazim are heard: You should just tell me. What do you want to convince me to do?
Hattuc: Nothing. You’d get upset over something that isn’t important.
Kazim: Please let me decide for myself.
Hattuc makes a face.
Kazim: OK, I’m listening.
We see but don’t hear Seyran telling Kazim. She ends with: So, if I were to do it, there’d be pictures of me everywhere wearing the brand. In the best stores, magazines, maybe in TV commercials. I’d be earning money, my own money. I wouldn’t need anybody if I made good money.

Episode 51 #9 of 9
Kazim listens, making his usual faces, of course. After she has spoken, he stands for a while and finally sits opposite her.
Kazim: What kind of clothes?
Seyran: Nothing suggestive, I swear, Dad. I wouldn’t accept otherwise. With your permission, I’d like to speak to them.
Kazim, makes a few faces: I don’t think so. I don’t like the idea. I’ve never trusted the media. He makes the “no” gesture.
Seyran stands: Father. I didn’t let anyone make me bow my head at dinner. I did what you said. But I have to bow my head every day. If you let me do this, I’ll never have to do it again. I’d be the face of the Korhans. I’d be strong in that house, like you want me to be. If you say no, that’s fine. But at least let me speak to them. I want to hear their offer.
Kazim: What does Ferit have to say?
Seyran: He doesn’t want me to do it.
Kazim: He doesn’t? (She shakes her head.). Well done. Bravo, my dear. You asked me, even though your husband said no. Well done.
Esme brings in a tray of coffee.
Kazim: This is how you should always act. I want to see this behavior more often.
Seyran can’t believe what she is hearing and is positively glowing.
Kazim: As long as you keep your head held high, Ferit will follow you around like a puppy dog. I know what I’m saying.
Seyran: So, what do you say Dad?
We don’t get to hear his reply.

There’s a knock at Pelin’s door. Of course it’s Ferit.
He asks her why she is making a face. Were you expecting someone else? She tells him her cousin Burak was coming over, and she thought that’s who was at the door.
Ferit looks carefully at how she is dressed: You look very pretty today. Did you get all made up just to see Burak?
Pelin: No, I was getting ready to go out.
Ferit: Hmmm. You were going out with that guy.
Ferit walks around the apartment, looking for clues perhaps.
Pelin: Ferit, what do you want from me?
He sits on the sofa: Didn’t I tell you I’d come over because we had things to talk about, my dear Pelin? Why don’t you answer my calls? Didn’t you say that you’d tell me everything?
Pelin: That’s right, I will. But we’re not in a relationship, Ferit. We’re not together. We’re just trying to get to know each other.
Ferit makes a sarcastic smile: Don’t you know each other enough? Who do you take me for?
Pelin: Ferit, please don’t.
Ferit: Pelin, who do you think you are? What are you thinking? I’ve been calling for days, and you won’t answer. Answer me. I ask to meet, and you don’t come. Why not?
Pelin: I answered and I told you I couldn’t go.
Ferit: Because of your boyfriend?
Pelin: Serter isn’t my boyfriend. But that doesn’t mean he won’t be. You have a wife, so I’m allowed to have a boyfriend too.
Ferit laughs: You haven’t changed.
He stands up: My dear Pelin. You are so pretty. (He opens her jacket to get a good look.)
This means you can have a boyfriend now, right? Hmm?

We don’t hear Pelin’s answer.
We don’t know what Kazim told Seyran, either.

51.

My comments: I liked parts of this where Seyfer show some genuine affection ( hand holding) but then Ferit kind of blows it in what seemed to me to be either a fit of jealousy or a loss of control, probably both. When fussing at Defne he did sound like a spoiled little kid. Interesting that the bit of progress occurred away from the yali. The rules and structure there are suffocating for all, including the staff.

We got a clear view of what motivates Kazim. Seyran was able to show how the job would enable her (and them) to hold their heads high. Respect and not losing face are strong motivators for Kazim. Seyran has good insight into this.

I already mentioned how powerful the sisters can be together with their complementary qualities.

Abidin’s dressing-down made me very sad. I hope he gets some satisfaction someday. He is such a strong supporter of Ferit, who would be lost without him.

Defne is wise and would be good counsel for both Seyfer, but Ferit is closing off that relationship. I think Orhan and Defne must have been in love. She seemed to look at the yali as something she might have had. I like her. Not sure about Efe Han, whom we have yet to meet.

Pelin is trying to start a new life, but Ferit always uses her when things are tough.
