Golden Boy – Yali Capkini – Poder y traicion
Episode 55 #1 of 9
“Unexpected Support”

Pelin and Serter are discussing Ferit. Pelin tells Serter she thinks he did something to Ferit. She says Ferit didn’t say anything clearly, and she still doesn’t know what to think. He tells her they didn’t do anything, but that he regrets not teaching him a lesson now. She reminds him he promised not to hurt him. He hugs her and repeats his promise not to do anything to upset her. She tells him she appreciates it. She tells him it’s his turn to cook and she hopes his omelet will agree with her. He grins. He goes to wash his hands. His expression noticeably changes when he leaves her. Now he looks very serious. While in the bathroom, he turns on the tap and makes a call. He tells his uncle that that idiot has to learn. Uh oh! Looks like Serter isn’t a good guy.

Abidin is driving but spends much of the time exchanging looks of love with Suna in the back seat. They need to be careful because Kazim is sitting next to Suna. Abidin’s red bracelet can be seen. Kazim asks him what it is. Abidin tells him it is a bracelet. Kazim says it’s just a strand, not a bracelet. He laughs at this. Kazim says to Suna that life is so silly: Abidin works for this country’s jewelry kingpin, and he uses a thread on his wrist.
Abidin tells him the bracelet is worth more than jewelry. Kazim says that OK. He tells him not to be offended, that he’s just kidding.
Suddenly they are cut off by a car blocking their path. It’s Serter’s uncle.
Abidin tells Kazim: I’ll handle this, my patriarch.
Abidin asks the uncle: What do you want?
Uncle: Do you want to know what could happen, or if you should start begging, cat? (He gestures to the car). Where is the prince?
Abidin looks down, silently.
Uncle yells: I asked you a question.
Watching from the car, Suna tells Kazim he needs to help. But Kazim hushes her. He tells her to be calm and not to leave the car. Kazim gets out.
Kazim: What’s happening? Are you a criminal? Why are you blocking us?
Uncle to Abidin: And that idiot?
Kazim: It’s best if you address me respectfully.
Uncle: It’s fine, brother, go back to your car.
Kazim: Put your hand down. And I’m not your brother. Abidin, who is this? What does he want?
Abidin: My Patriarch, I’m sure he’s mistaken us for someone else.
Uncle starts laughing: It seems that in Istanbul there’s a lot of men calling themselves the great patriarchs.
Kazim: It seems you’ve lost your mind. Listen to me well. I’m a busy man, so don’t make me waste my time and leave right now!
Kazim raises his voice and all Uncle’s henchies run to join them.
Uncle tells the patriarch to shut up.
Suna gets out of the car, yelling for her father.
Kazim tells her to get back in. Uncle recognizes her.
There is sort of a stand-off, and then uncle says they need to be leaving: Let’s go now!
Kazim tells Suna to get in and joins her in the car. Abidin and Uncle are staring at one another.
Uncle whispers to Abidin: Listen, Thank Allah that girl is with you, which is why nothing happened to you. It’s because of her that you won’t end up in the news as a casualty.
Abidin is very impactado. Uncle continues: Tell that idiot to be careful…
Kazim is back out of the car, walking toward them.
Uncle continues: …because if I see him again, we won’t care if his daughter sees us.
Uncle gets in his car and they drive off. Abidin sighs audibly.

Episode 55 #2 of 9
Kazim: Look at that idiot, with his bad attitude. I’ll take a photo of the license plate, OK?
Abidin: Listen, my patriarch. They didn’t see the signal. They had to show down, but they didn’t notice. Sometimes this happens in Istanbul. You can find crazies like that.
Kazim: Abidin, why did you stay quiet? That’s the only way those bastards understand, son. You have to yell at them. Get back in the car. Go on, get in. That crazy idiot.
Abidin and Suna exchange looks as he goes to get in the car.
Kazim: Enter, Abidin. Relax.
Kazim tells Suna it’s over.

At the yali, Orhan is sitting on a sofa in the living room. He asks himself where that man might be.
Gulgun: If it was up to me, he’d never arrive. We have enough problems.
Ifakat: It’s necessary. I don’t think he wants Seyran showing herself off and working in that sort of environment.
Asuman: He’s unpredictable. I remember him challenging Grandfather in his own house at dinner.
Ifakat: But he needed to be scolded. That put him in his place.
Orhan: Maybe he understood his place on a million-dollar plot of land.
Gulgun grins ruefully at this.
Orhan: So, we can’t assume what stance to take with Kazim right now.
Carlos enters and tells Orhan that Abidin just arrived.
Gulgun: You’ll have to excuse me, but I don’t want to deal with that man right now. I’d rather go to my room.
Asuman asks permission to join her mother-in-law.
Irakat nods and Gulgun and Asuman leave. Orhan stands to receive the visitor.
Outside, Abidin opens the door for Kazim. Kazim says he can’t believe it took so long, but they finally got there.
Kazim: Look at me. I’m still shaking with courage.
Abidin: At least we’re here. Lots of tense people today. Kazim tells Abidin to stay calm, it’s over. He tells him they are just maniacs. It’s best you relax and carry on. If you see them again, I’d advise you not to say anything or there could be a tragedy. (If Kazim only knew what a close call he had!). We came out unscathed.
Abidin thanks him.
Kazim goes into the yali followed by Suna.
Abidin looks pretty shaken up.

Kazim and Suna enter the yali. Orhan greets him. They shake hands. Orhan tells him he arrived a little late. Kazim tells him he already knows Istanbul. People talk and talk. It drives me nuts.
Ifakat laughs and tells Suna to follow her. Kazim agrees. He tells her to walk like she’s in her own home, like a garden flower.
Orhan invites Kazim to have a seat.
Ifakat and Suna are walking up the stairs and Seyran and Ferit are coming down from their attic.
They meet at the landing.
Ferit’s face is a stormcloud.
Seyran: Welcome, sister.
Ifakat: Is everything OK? How are you, Ferit?
Ferit: I’ll be good soon, Aunt.
Ifakat tells Suna that she’ll be waiting in her room. Ferit asks Suna how she is. She replies well and asks about him.
Ferit: Ask your sister. By the way, you haven’t the slightest idea what my aunt has in her head. Be careful with what she tells you or what she wants you to do for her, OK?
Suna: Yeah, that’s OK.
Ferit turns and walks down the stairs. She asks Seyran what he meant. Seyran tells her she doesn’t know what is going on in his head, but he’s right that she should be careful with Ifakat.
Seyran: What did Dad say? How is he?

Episode 55 # 3 of 9
Suna: He’s fine, but there was an incident on the way here.
Seyran: What happened?
Suna: A typical traffic argument. Some guys cut us off. They got out, then Abidin, then Dad, and they started arguing.
Seyran: What bad luck? He’s upset, right?
Suna: No. He still wants to support you and he’s in a good mood.
Seyran: I hope so. Go with her so she doesn’t get upset.
Suna goes to Ifakat’s room and Seyran goes downstairs.
Kazim is on a sofa fingering his beads and looking very pleased with himself. He orders a coffee, very strong and bitter, a double, from Carlos. Ferit and Seyran walk in to join Kazim and Orhan. Ferit welcomes Kazim and gives him the kiss of respect. Seyran does the same. As she goes to sit down, he tells her not to and for her to leave them alone: The men need to talk.
She asks to stay, even though Ferit indicates she should leave. Kazim tells her it’s not necessary: It’s man talk.
Ferit grins watching Seyran’s annoyed reaction.
Kazim: Daughter, don’t worry. Your Dad is here. I will only defend your interests, so let us talk. Go out in the garden. Go on!
She thanks him and goes outside.
Orhan: Whenever you’d like, Mr. Kazim. You said you wanted to talk, so go ahead. What is the problem?
Kazim: Problem? Your son knows the problem very well. He called me last night upset because he disagrees with my daughter.
Orhan: About the marketing?
Kazim: Yes, the marketing. Yesterday, Ferit told me he doesn’t want her to, but my daughter already told me. That’s why I came to you. So, I’ll hear you out. Why don’t you want her to? What problem would it cause?
Orhan: Honestly, I don’t want her to accept it either. I think it’s totally unnecessary for a member of this family to expose themselves like that. (Kazim’s eyebrows lift here.) Anyway, we don’t need any money earned from such exposure.
Kazim: Tell me, what’s so bad about it? That people will see her? The whole press knows the entire family. Does she embarrass you, or is there a problem with her accepting the job?
Orhan: She doesn’t embarrass us at all. But you know people always talk. That’s a fact. They’ll find some detail to hurt us, so I’d like to avoid those problems.
Kazim scoffs: What nonsense! Do you suddenly want us to forget everything that Ferit does, with his drunken partying? Because I’ll remind you that people talk about that. The press has covered it too. That’s embarrassing. This boy exposes himself at every party.
Ferit: Mr. Kazim, we’re not talking about me. It’s about Seyran. She’s not used to all that. I know you raised her very well but imagine. All those cameras, photographers, people screaming in the street. It’s very invasive. How would she react if she’s not used to it?
Kazim: Son, I must remind you that I raised my daughters in the best way, and that’s undeniable. (To Orhan) Remember the dinner? The call with the Frenchman? What was his name, Philippe? My daughters solved it.
Ferit: They solved it, but that’s different.
Kazim: That’s not true. I saw you that day, and you were completely surprised. Look, don’t even think about underestimating either of my beautiful daughters. Look, they are prepared, and it’s clear. I know it. They aren’t dumb, and you know it.
Orhan: Mr. Kazim, Ferit wasn’t insinuating to the contrary, but he does worry about exposing Seyran to the press.
Kazim: What are they going to do? Listen, son, she’s your wife. If the press harasses her, you can defend her and speak up to them like a husband would.
Ferit: I’m trying to protect her, but she won’t listen.
Kazim shakes his head: You’re not trying to protect her, and you know it. What you’re doing is interfering with what she wants. Let her work. Let your wife earn her money.

Episode 55 #4 of 9
Orhan: Mr. Kazim, the truth is I don’t understand why Seyran needs to make money.
Kazim: Orhan, necessity is not the only reason to work. Look, listen to this story. Your beloved son came with me one day, and he said I didn’t do anything. “Father Kazim doesn’t do anything!” (Ferit is rolling his eyes now.). Look at him. I gave him advice. And that told me, “It’s fine, I understand. It’s ignorance.” He doesn’t understand what it’s like, being the head of his own family, which is why my daughter has to earn her own money, so he doesn’t undervalue her. It would be good for her to feel useful and learn to earn her own money.
Ferit: I’m not against her working. She could work for the family company.
Kazim: Oh son, what an idea. Your dad hasn’t opened the company doors for you, and you want Seyran to work there?
Ferit has his hands over his brow now, often a bad sign. Orhan has a little smile.
Kazim: Ferit, look, if you have a legitimate complaint, please tell me. We could talk it over, that’s no problem. This is a democracy.
Ferit: I don’t want it, Mr. Kazim. I’ll be jealous of my wife. Please. Everyone will be able to see her in photos and videos and on television, and they’ll be talking about her looks. I won’t be able to handle gossip and it’ll hurt the relationship.
Kazim: So, trust in yourself, and trust in your wife. Seyran told me all the details, and she swore the clothes won’t be revealing. She wouldn’t do it if I didn’t support her. Orhan, your wife, Gulgun, found this job. Is she not home? Did you send her away because she supported my daughter?
Orhan: Please, Mr. Kazim.
Kazim: What can I say? It’s just a question. Orhan, look, listen, man. I want her to accept the job. My daughter thought a lot about this proposal, and she made her decision. She came to consult me after, and I gave her permission as her father, and everything’s fine. If there’s a valid reason, tell me now, but not that poor excuse. “I don’t feel like letting her work!” What does that mean? Is that a valid reason?
There is silence as father and son think about this.

Seyran is up in the attic. She gets a call from an unknown number. She answers, and it is Efe: I’m with Defne, and we bet that you’d recognize me as soon as I said hi, and I won.
Seyran: I’m listening.
Efe: I’m happy you accepted. I knew you’d love this project.
Seyran: But I still haven’t given my final answer. I still haven’t spoken with Ms. Defne. Maybe you misunderstood when you spoke with Ferit?
Efe:
what misunderstanding? It wasn’t like that.
Seyran: Honestly, I’m still not sure. I’m thinking.
Efe: That’s enough of answer for me. I suggest we get together tonight for dinner. Defne, you, me, and your husband could come too. We could talk about the project. What do you say?
Seyran: I’d love to, but it’s hard, Mr. Efe. I’ll have my answer for you by tomorrow, I assure you.
Efe: Listen, I have a proposal. Since Defne already made the restaurant reservation, (Defne eyeroll here), we’ll dine there. If you want to come, call my assistant, and she’ll tell you the place and time. If you’re free, you can join us. Don’t feel obligated.
Seyran: Yes, I’d like to, but the truth is, it’s fine.
Efe: Good. I’ll see you tonight.
We see him smiling at his phone while Defne is watching in the background. She laughs that they are going to dinner and she had no idea. Efe tells her it was an idea that jumped into his head.
Defne: Don’t pressure that girl too much, or you’ll regret it.
Efe: I’m not the one pressuring her. It’s her husband. He’ll regret being that way.
Defne: We’ll see.

(Back at the yali) Kazim: If you really want to help her, accept. That would be best. My decision is final. If my daughter doesn’t want to stay put, like a barn owl in this house, I support her. She’s his wife, not his slave, understand?
Orhan: We don’t treat her like a slave here.

Episode 55 # 5 of 9
Kazim: That’s what you say, but she’s my daughter. My beloved daughter, and she exercises her freedom. If she makes a mistake in the future, she’ll take it back. Listen. I really don’t want her to end up just like my wife or yours.
(Ferit turns to look at Orhan here.)
Kazim: My decision is firm. End of story. Listen (to Ferit), it’s final. No discussion. That’s it.
Ferit: That’s fine, Mr. Kazim. It’ll be exactly as you say. It’s already decided. But listen, I won’t fix the consequences that happen. You’ll fix them, OK?
Kazim: If everything is so OK, then why did you make me talk all morning? (Ferit laughs.) (To Orhan) There’s something odd about your son. All this talking made me thirsty.
Orhan says they will ask for water. Ferit watches in amusement. Kazim asks why water? Now that this was resolved, they should have a victory coffee.
Orhan agrees.
Ferit smiles at the victory coffee and agrees. He stands up. He says if there’s nothing left, it’s best if he leaves: I’ll let them know about your coffee. Maybe you can share some. (Ferit stares at Orhan a bit). My father could learn a lot from you, Mr. Kazim.
Kazim smiles at this and watches Ferit leave the room.
Kazim tells Orhan that Ferit is very young and it shows. He tells Orhan to relax.
Orhan manages to nod at this.

Up in the attic, Seyran meets with Ferit.
Ferit: It’s best if I give you the news.
Seyran: What notice?
Ferit: You can do what you want, Seyran. I don’t care what you do anymore.
Seyran: F-Ferit, what happened?
Ferit: I couldn’t stand my dad agreeing with me. This isn’t worth it.
Seyran: And ?
Ferit: So, you can do what you want. That’s the decision.
Seyran: There’s no problem. I can accept, right?
Ferit: I hope this brings you a lot of success.
Seyran: Did my dad say something bad, Ferit? What happened?
Ferit: No, not at all. In fact, he only spoke the truth. He said he didn’t want you to end up like our mothers for any reason. He can tell. My mom isn’t happy at all living in this house. Your mom’s the same in her situation. Maybe your father can tell, I don’t know.
Seyran: You’re being too dramatic. I don’t believe you.
Ferit, voice cracking: I really hope it’s worth it, after everything that’s happened to me. And you want to expose yourself. I think I’m used to it, thanks to you, Seyran.
Ferit’s phone rings: Tell me, Abidin. It’s fine. I’ll go right now.
Seyran: Did something happen? Why do you want to know? Why does it matter to you? I’m not your problem anymore. Focus on your life.
Ferit gets his coat and leaves.
Seyran is impactada.

Downstairs, the fathers are still talking. Kazim notices that they left him alone. And the girls?
Orhan: Do you need help?
Kazim: No, I don’t need anything. I wanted to talk to Suna. Thinking it over, Suna can stay the night here with her sister.
Orhan: I’ll call Ifakat. She must be with her.

Ferit walks up to Abidin and asks what’s up? Something bad?
Abidin asks him to come with him so they can talk.
Ferit doesn’t move: What’s up?
Abidin: Come here!

Episode 55 # 6 of 9
They are just a little bit out of the front door, and close enough for Suna to hear them when she walks down the stairs.
Abidin: They cut me off when I was driving.
Ferit: Who?
Abidin: Serter’s uncle.
Ferit: Why didn’t you tell me earlier?
Abidin: It was when I brought Suna and Kazim. When they got here, you started talking to Kazim, Ferit.
Ferit paces a bit: Did they say anything in particular?
Abidin: No, don’t worry. Kazim and Suna didn’t understand what it was about. But these guys have become a serious problem.
Ferit: He sent them because I saw Pelin last night? Clearly, he’s trying to intimidate us.
(Suna looks very alarmed now.)
Ferit: I told Pelin she has to end it with that idiot.
Abidin: You yelled at her, didn’t you?
Ferit: What do you think? She didn’t want to understand. It was all I could do. I don’t know how to convince her not to see that low born guy. Listen, Abidin, Pelin still doesn’t understand the seriousness of this problem. I don’t know how, but I have to make her understand. Let’s go.
Abidin: I’m still waiting for Mr. Kazin, Ferit. I’m taking him home.
Suna is surprised at this.
Ferit: Do whatever you want. Is the key in my car?
Abidin nods.
Suna walks into the living area as Ferit heads for his auto.

Upstairs, Ifakat looks furtive as she enters Orhan’s room.
Orhan: He saw us. Ferit knows. You’re right.
Ifakat: I told you. Ferit wants revenge. I’m sure he wants to punish us!
Orhan: Calm down, please. We’ll fix this.
Ifakat: What solution? If Grandfather hears this, it’s over for me!
Orhan: Calm down, Ifakat. I won’t let anything happen. We don’t have to fix it. We’ll deny it.
Ifakat: And Ferit?
Orhan: I’ll find a way to handle him. What matters now is what my father believes. I’ll question Ferit when I get the chance. Then we’ll know what he saw. But the only thing I know is we have to deny everything. Understand? Now calm down.
Ifakat: I can’t calm down! I think we need to talk to Ferit today!

Meanwhile, Suna is lost in thought in her room. Seyran joins her, and Suna asks her to sit with her. Seyran sits, but looks very dejected: Sister, I don’t feel good.
Suna: Why? I saw Dad leave happy. Is it because Ferit keeps denying it?
Seyran: It’s not like that. He ended up accepting, but…I think it’s certain. Abidin called him and he left. Who knows where. He looked very depressed.
Suna takes a deep breath: He’ll be fine. Hopefully, nothing else happens.
Seyran: It’s not that easy to understand, Suna. Ferit went through something terrible, and I couldn’t console him like I wanted to because of the issue with this project.
Suna: Seyran? Tell me, are you thinking of going back?
Seyran: To be honest, I think I won’t accept.
Suna: Don’t even think it. You have to accept it. This changes nothing. Don’t be dumb.
Seyran: But Ferit sometimes helps me. He tries. He’s even cutting Pelin out of his life, but

Suna: Hmmm, I hope he gets her out of his life.
Seyran can tell that Suna knows something: What do you mean, sister?
Suna: I didn’t mean anything. I spoke without thinking.
Seyran: Sister, do you know something that I don’t? Please, tell me what you know.
Suna: Last night, Ferit was with Pelin. Before he was with her, he went to talk to her new friend. It looks like they fought. And then Ferit asked her to leave him, and now it looks like he left to talk to Pelin again. That’s why I told you. You shouldn’t trust him like that. You shouldn’t lose this opportunity because of him. OK?
Seyran is chewing on her lip and thinking hard. She jumps up, and Suna runs to stop her: Wait for him to come back to confront him, OK? Calm down.
Seyran: No, I understand. I’m an idiot, you’re completely right. I’m stupid and now I need you to leave me alone, Sister.
Suna: Seyran…
But Seyran leaves without listening to more.

We see Ferit get out of his SUV to walk into a building that is probably Pelin’s. He is being watched by a henchie, who then makes a phone call to someone named Maho.
Inside, Pelin hears her doorbell. She sees Ferit and looks less than thrilled. Does she know about the henchie?
She opens the door and asks Ferit: Why are you here? Didn’t you yell at me enough?
Ferit: I need to talk to you. That’s why I’m here. Enter.
Pelin closes her door.
Ferit: Did you do what I told you to?
Pelin: What?
Ferit: What did you decide about him?
Pelin: Ferit, stop insisting. I don’t want to talk about this.
Ferit takes her hand: Pelin, why don’t you want to understand? That boy isn’t the type of person you should go out with. Why is that so hard to get?
Pelin, very disturbed: But why are you doing this? How does this benefit you? I don’t know what you want when I’m so confused. Please have mercy!
She walks away.
Ferit: Why do you think I came over again? I feel bad for you. That idiot harassed Abidin with his men. Did he tell you that?
Pelin: What?
Ferit: What? Does this surprise you? Abidin was cut off and intimidated. Don’t you see what kind of person he is? Stop acting like a stupid girl. Look, I came here to protect you, Pelin. I’m not doing this for me. That’s why I’m insisting. This guy will bring you nothing but shame! You have to understand.
Pelin: Don’t yell at me! (She is crying.)

Ferit: Then don’t make me yell! I won’t insist anymore, and when you call me and say, “Ferit, I need your help. I’m upset, please help me,” what do you think I’ll do? I’ll ignore you, Pelin. Because you don’t want to believe me. Because you don’t trust me anymore, but you trust that guy. OK, Pelin. You’ll pay a high price, I’m sure of it. Understand? (Pelin turns away and cries.). Go ahead, cry. Cry. Because it’s only the beginning. You’ll cry more later, I’m sure.
Ferit walks away toward the door, leaving Pelin very impactada.

Up in her attic suite, Seyran is sitting on the bed thinking about what Suna just told her. She twiddles her thumbs. Ferit comes in, looking chipper: Seyran?
Seyran, in a very serious voice: Where did you go? Where are you coming from?
Ferit walks over toward her and asks what’s happened.
Ferit: What’s going on?
Seyran: I’ll ask you again, and if you have decency, you’ll answer me with a bit of honesty.
Ferit: Agreed.
Seyran: Did you go to Pelin’s house a while ago?
Ferit: What are you talking about now? Who told you that?
Seyran: It doesn’t matter who told me. Now, answer me. Am I wrong or are you still seeing her?
Ferit: Seyran, I fear you’ve lost the luxury to ask me about these types of things. If you remember, your decisions mean my life no longer inconveniences you. Why do you care who I go out with?
Seyran gets up and hits out at Ferit: Ferit, I told you to answer me! Did you or did you not go with her?
Ferit: Seyran, why do you keep butting into my life? You’re crazy for a fight.
Seyran: Oh, like I want to fight! Answer me, Ferit. Did you go to her, or did you go somewhere else?
Ferit: I went because it was necessary. That’s why. Is that clear? Satisfied?
Seyran holds up a finger in frustration.
Ferit continues: Or do you think I have another reason? I went to protect her. They guy she’s going out with will bring her problems. I went to her house to ask her not to date that idiot. What’s the harm?
Seyran: Why do you care? Why do you care? Why do you care what she does? Why do you care who Pelin dates? I worried about you, feeling pity for you like an idiot. I even thought about not taking the job.
Ferit: Feeling pity? Well, too bad. Keep the pity, because in the end, you’ll bring pity when you have that job.
Seyran: When we saw her at the store, you said you understood if she went out with someone. You seemed very understanding when you talked to her. What could have happened in two days? You’re back at her house, fighting with her new guy. What happened, Ferit?
Ferit: I see you don’t understand me. I didn’t go to her house because I was jealous. I keep thinking the same thing. The guy she’s going out with could hurt her. I tried to convince her he is dangerous. Do you want me to leave her alone?
Seyran: I don’t understand why it matters. Why do you care?
Ferit: It’s very simple. I already told you! He’s dangerous. I don’t want Pelin to keep going out with him, OK? Simple. I just don’t. Seyran, I understand. Just like everyone in this house, Pelin has always been a part of my life, and she always will be.
Seyran: So, she always will be? Fine. Tell me what you’re planning. Do you want two wives? Will you marry her too? What are you planning?

Ferit: Understand that you’re not part of my plans. So now I’ll do whatever I want. Because you go whenever you want. Because you don’t love me. Because you don’t want to have my child, even though being a father is my biggest wish. And maybe I will be, but I’m sure Pelin will be the mother. Who knows?
Seyran is holding her head in her hands in emotional pain.
Ferit: Maybe I protect her because that’s what I want! Who knows. Are you content? Am I clear enough?
Seyran, snarling and using her index finger to emphasize her words: You are the worst bas**ard I’ve ever met! From now on, you cannot tell me anything about what I do or decide! I bet Pelin’s boyfriend is much better than you! Now, get out! Go be with your lover, you filthy creep. Get out! Get out!
Seyran continues to yell until he heads out the door.
After he leaves, she starts throwing breakable things, kicking the furniture, and pulling the linens off the bed. She then collapses into the linens, weeping.
Suna comes in. She works hard to calm down her sister. Finally, she holds her tight, telling her it’s OK and encouraging her to breathe. Seyran still has wild eyes, but she starts to calm down.
Ferit walks away from the yali. He finds Abidin in the garage, sitting at a table.
Fert: Abidin?
Abidin: Ferit? What happened? Are you OK?
Ferit: Come with me. I need to go out. As soon as possible.
Abidin: It’s OK, brother, calm down. Did you fight again?
Ferit: Are you surprised? We always fight.
Abidin: Now I understand.

Back upstairs, Seyran looks at herself in the bathroom mirror.
Suna knocks on the door. She tells her she is coming. Seyran takes a deep breath, pulls her shoulders back and stands up straight. She emerges looking calm after the storm.
Suna asks if she is OK.
Seyran takes her phone and checks to see if Efe sent her the address. She tells Suna they will go together.
Suna: Where are we going?
Seyran: Dinner with Efe and Defne.
Suna: What?
Seyran: You heard me. You’re coming with me.
Suna: What do I have to do with this dinner?
Seyran: You’ll come to dinner because you’re my sister. I don’t want to go alone, and I need your company. And you’ll see what your sister is capable of. Ferit will receive a lovely present. He deserves it.

Lobo

Jueves – Parte 1 de 2 They keep showing that tree in the yard at Miranda’s, and I’m wondering if the baddies plan to climb over to Renata that way.

Whoa! Tuqueque turns out to be sensible. Oscar the Hothead wants to start killing trained security guards. They’re in a car outside the house. He reminds Oscar that his father wanted a clean snatch. He says that Renata knows Oscar (from when she lived with Graciela and met the García boys). He’ll be able to convince her to leave with him.

Antonia is very unhappy about Hugo’s lame plan that put a dangerous criminal back on the street. She warns him that another screwup will mean an indefinite suspension.

Ignacio is whining to Sué. She lets him have it with the news that his mother caused them to lose their baby. When he argues about this, she blows up at him.

Renata is confused. She’s talking to Tato and tells him that she trusts Antonia, but Antonia said her father was bad.

Hugo stammers out a marriage proposal. Not with a ring in a champagne glass in a candlelit restaurant, but in a corridor at the cop shop to a woman traumatized by a very recent rape.

César wakes up feeling awful. He emphasizes that he wants a good life, to attend school. He tells Misael that what he did, giving him drugs, is not love. He breaks it off with Misael. Misael begs and mentions rehab.

Oscar goes inside and sees Renata picking flowers. We are reminded that Gustavo is buried right there, and Renata plans to put them on his grave. She’s happy to see Oscar. Sounds like he says he wants to take her somewhere to play some fútbol. They keep dragging this out, but Miranda calls for Renata and Oscar has to run for it. He hides in a bush and raises his gun to shoot Miranda. Tuqueque stops him. Then Oscar threatens Tuqueque for “interfering”. [It will be interesting to see which hothead bites the dust first, Oscar or his father.]

Agustin is shot and killed by the disgusting Fabio at Cruz’s suggestion. Later Graciela finds out and puts her hand over her mouth in horror. [Will she connect the dots to Cruz’s anger when she told him she heard from Agustin that Cruz and El Az were in on Gustavo’s killing together?]

Jueves – Parte 2 de 2 Adela tells Magola about Cocula raping her, and Antonia is in on the conversation.

Nacho and César are with Leonor. She whines. It’s not clear to me that they knew she tried to kill herself. When confronted, she denies getting rid of Nacho’s child. It’s not clear to me he’s smart enough to figure out the truth, even though Sué wanted to bring him to the doctor who told her the truth.

Miranda thinks Renata is doing the imaginary friend thing (about Oscar) until Renata describes knowing Remedios (when she lived with Graciela). Santi and Lobo overhear. (Whew!)

Lobo also overhears Miranda telling Renata that Antonia is an enemy who wants to take their money

El Az is furious the kidnapping failed and points a gun at Tuqueque, who then tells him about having to stop Oscar from shooting his gun. El Az throws up his hands in disgust and entrusts Cocula with the job.

Leonor comes to tell Cruz that their children don’t want the divorce. He’s brutal. He says he never had a happy day with her. She talks about nervous crises, and he reminds her there were a lot of those. He insults her some more and says he’ll tell the guards not to let her in.

Lobo brings Santi to his teaching job. He asks him to take away the mic. They got what they needed, and he doesn’t want Alejandro to find it. He’s going to stay there to watch out for his daughter.

Leonor comes to see Antonia to testify against Cruz. She says he was involved in the assassination of Gustavo De la Colina. Antonia records it. Leonor says that she knew that Gustavo and Hernando Cruz were in business together. And that Gustavo laundered money. She heard Cruz’s end of the conversation where Gustavo wanted out because of El Azufrero being involved. When they hung up, Cruz said he was going to kill him.

[I don’t quite understand this. She made it sound like El Az was horning in at the end. But he was the one actually running the guns. That’s where the money came from that Gustavo was salting away. My recollection of that conversation is Gustavo just saying he simply didn’t want to be involved anymore; i.e. maybe going straight.]

Adela can’t bear to live where the attack took place and asks Hugo about moving in with him. Of course he’s pleased.

Leonor almost backs out when it’s time to sign her declaration, but Antonia assures her she’ll be protected. She signs it.

Magola gets fired because Oscar came to their house.

Cocula is staking out Miranda’s place. Lobo sneaks up and gets the drop on him. He tells him he’s taking him to a quiet place for a thorough beatdown.

Lobo

Is this the first time Fabio an agent, has murdered someone? That's a significant step. I'm disgusted that Fabio (and Graciela) hasn't seen that continuing to follow Cruz's lead has no good future. Cruz isn't getting out of prison.

Lobo

I think Leonor is telling a version of the truth. She will keep her coordination with Remedios quiet and other things that might incriminate herself. Also, she would not have heard about every phone call, etc. between Cruz Azufrero and Gustavo. She did not get the protection from prison and protection of her life in writing from Antonia. No mention of a witness protection program, which would take her away from her boys. (Or, to Novelera's point, perhaps the show writers got sloppy.)

"LOBO"
Novelera: AWESOME job with the recap of last night's episode. More frustrating with some characters, who are so damn irritating LOL.

Anastasia: Nacho is an idiot for believing the lies of Mommy Dearest over Sue OMG. I also have to think somebody at that nursing home will eventually open their mouths to Eugenio & Antonia about Lady Macbeth killing Guillermina.

On Buji Goldie Locks: It's pretty clear to me that she is likely NOT going to be saved at this point. I will NOT be sad to see her go Buh-Bye!

Thanks, Babachita. That was an insane amount of dialogue! It makes me sad to see Ferit and Seyran burning their bridges to each other.

To me it's not so much Serter being a bad guy as it being unreasonable for Ferit to claim any agency over Pelin's choices since he's a married man.

You gotta give Kazim credit for huevos de acero when he got out of that car and confronted Mafia Uncle. Of course he doesn't know the mafia part, but there were several imposing guys and Kazim went right after them.

Mafia Uncle recognizes Suna? If I ever knew that it's gone from my brain. I thought he backed off because she's a beauty.

I loved Ferit telling Suna to be aware of Ifakat's machinations. But I want Suna to be told in no uncertain terms that Ifakat plans to replace Asuman with her. If she knew the whole plot, she'd be better able to resist Ifakat's infuriating coaching.

Kazim is right about Ferit being the embarrassment. There was the big scene about the paparazzo. And also he made a scene at the pizza restaurant when he barged in on Pelin and Serter's lunch together.

Oooh! I'm getting more bad vibes from Efe. Now he's pressuring her with a dinner invite. Seyran's first impulse was this not being a good idea, but then Ferit sent her over the edge with his petulant child behavior. "I don't care what you do anymore." Plus, I'm wavering on my support of Defne. Does she know Efe is...something, an abuser of young women, likely to put Seyran into embarrassing ads? Is she supportive of Seyran having this opportunity or is she getting back at Orhan for something in their past?

golden

Novelera, I went back and checked. You are correct. Mafia Uncle did not appear to know who Suna was. He just realized there was a girl in the car, daughter of the “Patriarca” he was insulting.

Thanks for clarifying this!

Thanks for the comprehensive recap, Babachita.

I had quibbles with the translations throughout this ep. The dubbing didn’t quite convey the tone of the original either, especially when Seyfer argued.

Edits to the dialog on the drive to the yali. Abidin addressed Kazim as “Kazim Bey”. Kazim made a fuss that he is “the son of an ağa and also an ağa” and insisted on being called Kazim Ağa. They strangely translated ağa as “patriarca”.

Uncle asked Abi, where is your little one (ufaklik)? He didn’t call Ferit “prince”.

Yes, Kazim was ready to throw down with uncle. Kazim warned him, “do not lead me into sin. Get lost, you bastard!” When they arrived at the yali, Kazim told Abi not to tell the Korhans about the incident, he didn’t want further trouble.

Ferit admitted he was jealous that others would be looking at his wife and gossiping. I do believe he wants to protect her from anything negative. And I want to believe he has no issue with Seyran working in general.

Defne did mention Efe’s “reputation” to Ferit but told him to disregard it. That only added fuel to Ferit’s fire. ITA, novelera, it’s hard to figure Defne’s motivation.

Ferit seems truly worried about Pelin getting involved with Serter. If you’re keeping track, Ferit has not slept with Pelin for a long time. Looks like that part of the relationship ended. But as Ferit noted in arguing with Seyran, Pelin has always been a part of his life and always will be. At this point, it’s upsetting to both Seyran and Pelin. Should/could a married person have a friendly relationship with an ex? Should Ferit not care at all what happens to Pelin?

Roles were reversed during the Seyfer argument. Seyran was the insanely jealous one in this ep. Ferit became the spiteful, cruel one. These two don’t talk to each other, they just react and explode. A lot of sexual tension. Lol, the original fandom clamored for AFS (after fight sex).

golden

Thanks for the info, Dondi! The Turkish makes so much more sense than the translation I used.

Odd they didn’t just use aga for Kazim. I laughed at Uncle’s comment about the overflow of agas in Istabul! I think Kazim was lucky he didn’t end up in a fight.

The relationship with Pelin is going to be a puzzle. They have been close for years. It might be nice to continue but with a different relationship. However, Ferit so far shows no sign of keeping it friendly, not romantic. If he needs comfort, he’s very likely going to Pelin. She needs a new life!

I will recap #56. Either tonight or tomorrow. Tonight I'll be watching the Cavaliers play the Knicks. It isn't looking good; but, once a buckeye, always a buckeye. My brother and nephew are devoted Cavs fans. My brother is the only one still in Akron. My beloved paternal grandmother had a buckeye tree in her front yard. It was such a pleasure to pick up these prickly green things off the ground and peel that away to see the lovely, warm brown seed inside.

Can't resist saying more. I don't remember if it was Ferit or someone else who suggested Seyran work at the Korhan company. Agree that he'd be okay with that. But, to me, the real thing going on is possessiveness and jealousy. He's sure that, if she worked for Korhan Enterprises, no one would ever make a pass at her.

Well, Seyran has a right to be very jealous, IMHO. It might be all right for her to know Pelin and Ferit were friends under some circumstances. But I doubt she would ever forget her wedding night when they had that romp with her, I believe, in the next room. Not positive they had sex, especially since dizis are never graphic. But she listened to them giggling and carrying on until Ferit went into a diabetic coma.

#56 – Part 1 of 3

Looking tough as nails, Seyran orders Suna to get ready to go with her to the dinner with Efe and Defne. She wants Suna for moral support. But she says she’s going to teach Ferit a lesson. Suna thinks they need permission to leave the house. Seyran grimly says they’ll just walk right out.

Ferit and Abidin talk at an outside table beside the Bosphorus. As usual Abi tries to get Ferit to cool his jets. But Ferit sings the same song. He won’t let Pelin go with Serter. While he’s flexing, I’m looking around for Uncle Mafia. [Dondi, I remember you said he’s probably not a blood relative, but I like the sound of Uncle Mafia.]

Seyran and Suna get to the restaurant seemingly without any confrontation about their leaving. Before they get to the table, Efe asks Defne who the other one is. He seems dazzled by Suna as well, making a crack to Defne about the Sanli genes. After they sit, we get an overhead view of the four of them at the table.

A waiter calls Abidin. [Come on, Abidin won’t tell Ferit about where Seyran is, will he? Of course that’s too much to ask for.]

Seyran and Suna don’t even get an appetizer. Ferit walks in shouting her name. Looking murderous, he slams his fist on the table. He starts snarling at Efe. Defne tells him to calm down, and she’s told to shut it.

Efe tries to be civilized, asking Ferit to sit so they can discuss this. Seyran closes her eyes, clearly realizing what’s about to happen. We get Ferit’s nasty laugh. He screams at the top of his lungs that this dinner is over. He orders Seyran to get up. [Whatever happened to that “Do whatever you want” in the last episode?] Seyran apologizes to Defne and Efe, saying that she’s embarrassed.

Ferit is screaming at Seyran in the street. Suna gets protective and angry. She tells him to leave them alone. Seyran shrugs him off and starts walking. He raves about her having changed so much in a week. He says that she came to close the deal without him. He shakes his finger at her.

Seyran looks at him with SO much disgust. She tells him she’ll decide what to do with her life from now on. You’re married to me! Ferit tells Abi to get them into the car. Abidin tries to follow orders, taking Suna by the arm. It seems he hurt her as she winces with pain. Abidin is appalled.

Ferit has walked toward the car. Seyran goes after him. Don’t you dare yell at my sister ever again. If you offend her or anyone in my family, I’ll tear down your house! Ferit looks cowed. Seyran tells him he’s an idiot. She pities him. He’s a pathetic, immature child. He’s not like Efe. He’s not even like her father, not worth a single fingernail on Kazim’s hand. She grabs her purse, and she and Suna are leaving. Abidin tries vainly to apologize.

#56 – Part 2 of 3

Ferit wipes away some tears but immediately produces a cocky grin and goes back into the restaurant. He sits down and babbles something about Halis having told him to have good manners. Efe tries to make nice, but Ferit threatens him. Seyran can never be alone with him. [This sounds to me like he’s accepting the contract as a fait accompli and is wanting terms added.] He tells Efe that Efe is a gentleman, but he himself is not one. He suggests they go outside and fight in the street. Efe keeps trying to calm the waters, but Ferit says Efe will never see his wife again without his permission.

Pelin’s doorbell rings and, of course, I think it’s Ferit again. But it’s Serter. Judging by his facial expression, it’s no more Mr. Nice Guy. He demands to know if Ferit came to see her. She says he did. She asks how he knew and he doesn’t say, but I can guess the henchies were watching her place. He asks why she didn’t tell him, beginning to shout. [I just can’t wrap my head around these men. It’s miles and miles away from my concept of male/female relationships. A man I’ve had 3 or 4 dates with has zero right to inquire about what I do with the rest of my time.]

Pelin asks if someone was spying on her. She says she doesn’t like that. He gets angrier. Do you like lying to me and leaving me waiting. [Hmm. I’m wondering if something was edited. I don’t remember Pelin having anything scheduled with Serter.] She asks him to leave, and says he’s being rude. Why does Ferit keep coming here? Pelin says that he promised her he wouldn’t do anything. He yells that he didn’t.

Pelin tells him he crossed a line. Are you dating both of us? She asks him to leave. He gets too close, yelling. Was it wrong to treat you well? She tells him that this is over, and she doesn’t want to see him again. He snarls about her seeing a married man. Do you know what kind of person does that? She slaps him, not quite an Ottoman, more like a scared girl. He proceeds to rage around there and trash her place.

Suna and Seyran have gotten home. Suna says that Ifakat’s a good person. Seyran gives an eye roll and says that this is not a castle in a fairy tale. Ifakat, of course, nabs them on the stairs, but only wants to see Seyran.

Ifakat asks where they went, and novelera replies: “None of your business, harpy!” But Seyran calmly tells her the truth about going to the dinner. Whose permission did you ask? [Grrrr!] Seyran replies her father and her husband. And I’m sure Mr. Orhan told you. [!!!!] I don’t think I need to ask permission for every step I take, do I? Ifakat bristles that she’s being disrespectful. Seyran says she merely answered the question. Ifakat ominously says that Seyran is coming to the end. [As a wife or a living person?]

Ifakat asks where Ferit is. Seyran replies that he came to the dinner, but she doesn’t know where he is now. You can ask him since you want to be his nanny. Ifakat is barely under control. If Ferit hadn’t saved you from that house… If he wants a divorce, what will happen to you. Your entire existence depends on him.

golden

#56 – Part 3 of 3

Seyran is throwing things in her bedroom and telling Suna exactly what she thinks of Ifakat. She tells her the part about Ifakat saying that she’s nothing without Ferit.

Ifakat goes to tell Orhan that Ferit didn’t come home yet. She says that they didn’t tell her. [She’s absolutely maniacal at any hint she doesn’t have an iron grip on the Korhan household.]

Abidin is at the wheel when Pelin calls Ferit. Abi tells him he shouldn’t pick up, but Ferit can’t seem to do that…ever. Pelin is a wreck and asks him to come. We get to see the damage Serter did.

Ferit arrives, and she runs into his arms. She says he didn’t hurt her, but… We get a Ferit forehead touching moment and he starts to run out. Pelin stops him. Then Ferit reverts to type and blames her for letting Serter think he was her boyfriend. He tells her to stop lying (just like Serter did). He gets in her face and asks if she slept with him. She says she “couldn’t let him in” (to her heart). She can’t forget Ferit. She even dreams about him. Pelin declares him her first love and maybe her last one. She begs him to stay. Ferit says he’ll stay until Burak arrives, but Pelin is frightened that Burak will tell her mother. She just sort of abases herself, begging him to love her.

Seyran is sure that Ferit cancelled the arrangement with Efe. Suna is fed up with Ferit. She tells her sister to hang onto the job. They start joking around, making cracks about Ferit. And then Seyran begins to cry. She tells Suna about Ferit, in a nasty mood, saying he’d have children with Pelin. How could he say that to his wife? [How indeed?]

Suna asks if “anything” had ever happened with Ferit. Seyran just says that that’s ridiculous. Her point is that he said that about Pelin having his child. Suna is logical. If that’s what he wanted, he’d already be a father. They start giggling about a kid maybe showing up calling for papí. [I still wonder if there isn’t one there already…Sultan’s child that we haven’t seen for weeks.]

Suna tells Seyran that Ferit is madly in love with her. He’s crazy and jealous. Suna advises her to get some sleep. Seyran thinks he’ll come up the ladder and through the terrace so that no one will see him enter. The sisters embrace.

Orhan comes to see Defne very late at night. He’s told that Ferit is not there. They start arguing right away. She says he should focus on why Ferit isn’t where he should be instead of going around looking for him. He says she’s just the same. Rather pompously he mentions family, peace, children, and trust. [That’s a real spit take right there, you philanderer.] Defne replies that Ferit doesn’t seem like he has that. She sees an abandoned child whose mother is Gulgun. Isn’t that strange? He says she knows too much. She agrees and has lived with it for years. [My antennae are up about some secret still to come.] Don’t you feel guilty for not letting your son make his own decisions? He orders her to know her place. Stay away from my family! She orders him out. I know you well. Whatever your plan is, stay away from my family. Don’t make me be the old Orhan.

Seyran falls asleep reading.

Orhan comes home in a temper. Sultan had told Abidin earlier that Orhan wanted to see him. Orhan demands to know where Ferit is. He starts browbeating Abi, telling him to know his place. He says something about Abi having empty dreams. [Does he suspect his feelings for Suna?] Didn’t I tell you that your only job was dogging Ferit’s every step. Abidin eventually says that Ferit is with Pelin. As of this moment, you’ll tell me everything he does. There’s an allusion that that was precisely Abi’s job earlier on. He screams. [Isn’t there Linked-in in Istanbul? Abi needs a better job.]

#56 edits and comments part 1

Thanks, novelera, for an outstanding recap. The asides are spot on. You raise very good questions that inquiring minds want to know. It’s unfortunate that they made edits again and gave us questionable translations.

Defne and Efe had a brief convo right before Seyran and Suna arrived at the restaurant. Seyran isn't the right target, she says, I think you should use your chance wisely. He replies, for me, I know exactly which card to play—where and how. I know, Defne answers, but this time, I feel like it would be a good idea if you acknowledged me as well. Efe senses that Defne is afraid of something. She says no, not afraid but a little uneasy. I thought she looked quite worried. And I also thought she looked concerned as Efe explained the project to Seyran.

Edit to Ferit and Abi at the shore. Ferit begins to relax and says, ah, we’re just sitting here. Pistachios at our side. The air so clean and fresh… no worries or troubles. No one nagging. No Pelo… no Seyran… no mother… no father. He looks up at the sky. Allah’im… this is very good. May it always be like this. I always want my mind to be at ease. I don’t want anything else from you. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long because Abi got the call from the restaurant. The waiter happened to be a childhood friend of Abi.

“He orders Seyran to get up. [Whatever happened to that “Do whatever you want” in the last episode?] “ Yes, Ferit said that but knowing him I’d interpret: Do what you what you want but expect consequences.

So Seyran thinks Ferit is not worth a fingernail on Kazim? That wounded Ferit. I know it was anger and spite on Seyro’s part, but I think it’s still better to be with Ferit.

After the restaurant incident, Suna told Abi they wouldn’t get in the car with him. He apologized profusely and said he was just trying to deescalate the situation. Suna snapped that Abi should have held Ferit back instead of her. The sisters take a cab home. Abi gets upset and kicks the car a couple of times.

I carefully reviewed the original confrontation between Pelin and Serter. Nothing was edited out but there was more clarity. Serter expected Pelo to inform him if Ferit ever came over. The spy informed him and he waited for Pelo to contact him. Seems to me that Serter is thinking Pelin is using him and doesn’t care about a real relationship. In our ep he asked her, do you think I’m your toy? In the Turkish he asked, Am I your bandage? I suppose Serter has shown his true colors. I still wonder why Burak hangs with him and why thought he’d be a good match for Pelin. Pelin has bad luck with guys.

Mustafa was at the gate when Seyro and Suna arrived by cab. He immediately made a call. Must have been Ifakat.

Oh how I wished that Seyran would have hinted more to Ifakat about cheating with Orhan.

They edited some of the sisters’ convo in the room. Seyran gripes that not only does she have to deal with Ferit, but she deals with his family’s insults, too. She says, when Ferit comes, I’ll shove everything he said and everything his yenge said, back in his face! Suna tells her to calm down. Ferit just doesn’t understand. She adds, when he’s in a good mood, he’s great, but when he’s in a bad mood, a monster comes out. And I never would have expected this from Abidin Bey.

What would you expect, Seyran replies, isn’t he a man? They are all the same. If we don’t stand strong, they all will crush us. You should set boundaries there, too. No one should treat you like that. He needs to come to his senses. Suna sadly says that it’s over now. I won’t even say hello. Why did he hold me back instead of Ferit? Seyran holds Suna’s hand and says, if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be able to stand this straight.

#56 edits and comments part 2

“Suna asks if “anything” had ever happened with Ferit. Seyran just says that that’s ridiculous… Suna is logical.” I dunno, is it ridiculous to expect Ferit to wait for Seyran forever? Suna said it plainly, how could Ferit have children with her if nothing happens. Is refusing to consummate marriage valid grounds for divorce in Turkey? I’ll have to look that up, lol.

They edited Ferit and Abi in the car. Ferit is much calmer. Abi reminds Ferit that he had allowed Seyran to take the project. Ferit says that didn’t mean Seyran could have dinner with Efe. Abi asks, but why fight about it. You get angry, then she does. You complicated everything. And it turned out very ugly in front of Suna Hanim. I also acted badly. I accidentally hurt her.

Ferit notes that Suna blew up big time, too. He tells Abi it would have been worse if he hadn’t been there. Abi says that they (the sisters) don’t know what’s inside you and me. The sisters’ only concern is looking out for and protecting one another. No one has ever done that for those poor girls. Ferit claims that’s what he was doing, protecting them. He asks, why do you think I made a mess out of that dinner?

Abi says, you can’t just break and destroy things like this. It’s not the way, but I know you and understand you. I know, Ferit replies, sometimes my mind just goes crazy. I can’t control it. You know me the best. Let’s go home. I’ll apologize to both of them. Abi says, they will forgive you somehow, but what will happen to me? After that, Pelin called Ferit.

Ugh, will Ferit sleep with Pelin?

Edit: Sultan complains to Sefika about Seyran once again. Sefika says, you make it seem like the bride snatched a husband from your grasp. Sultan says everything has been disrupted since Seyran arrived. She and her sister do what they want, go here and there without permission. Sefika notes, Latif Bey hasn’t done anything either. Halis doesn’t come down to the table anymore. Sultan heard that Halis said to leave Seyfer alone for a while. He’s probably waiting for them to get their noses covered in filth before he does anything. Then Abi walks in and Sultan tells him Orhan was looking for him.

Orhan and Defne. Orhan spoke about family, unity, order, and trust. Defne responds, when I look at Ferit, I don’t see any of those things. Despite Gulgun, I only see a neglected child. Isn’t it strange? Orhan tells her, you know so much. Of course I know, she replies, I’ve lived with this for years. What a shame. Didn’t you feel any remorse when you let your son share the same fate as you? [I believe she’s referring to forced marriage. Orhan had told Ferit about that before he got married but it was edited out of our version.] I wonder what the “old Orhan” was like?

Of interest: Seyran was reading “Handan” by Halide Edib Adıvar, a Turkish novel from 1912. Here’s the quick Google: “Set during the twilight of the Ottoman Empire, the plot follows Handan, an educated and intellectual "New Woman" who struggles to reconcile her desires with the strict, male-dominated society of the time.” How fitting for our dizi.

Orhan and Abidin. Orhan reminded Abi, I brought you here to protect and look after Ferit. Not so that you can hang out, socialize and be friends with him. Don’t forget your place. Don’t get carried away by empty dreams.

I can recap #57 for the new Monday page.

golden

Thanks, dondi, for the edits and clarifications. Of course, it makes sense that Defne meant someone (presumably Halis) insisted on Gulgun as the right match for Orhan. And he might have been in love (or at least in lust) with Defne.

Yes, Suna seems to intuit her sister's sexless marriage. And, like Viewerville, finds it hard to believe all this time has passed without consummation.

Why, oh why, are Telemundo making all these cuts? It's on in the middle of the night, so they don't need to wrap it up in time for the premiere of a new TN.
