La Fuerza del Destino #84 Thu 12/01/11 La Fuerza de bullheadedness

Carolina comes to visit Antolín in jail. She happily announces to him that there's no pain and she did see some fuzzy shapes, so in a few weeks when she gets the bandages off, she'll be able to see. She wants to see him out of jail and free.

The annoying lawyer who can't possibly need those glasses to see since he spends all his time cleaning them, makes sure Saul and Carmen know what they're going to tell the judge.

Antolín is upset about Carmen going to the lawyers. Ivan talks him down and says it will all be ok, he just needs to say that Toni offered to pay for Carolina's surgery and that they talked about it three weeks ago.

Carmen tells the judge that Saul's story to her was that he suspected his dad of carrying on with Lucrezia and he wanted to catch them. When the judge asks her about running into Saul and Gordo out on the road the week before, she says Saul was coming to pick her up. She explains that they went out years ago and have a kid together, so Saul's been trying to patch things up with her. She says on the day the gave her a ride home, they talked about the kid, about Lucrezia's movements. "And did they know your brother had a gun?" Carmen tells him the three of them were friends, especially Gordo.

David comes to see JJ. He seems pissed that JJ is at home. JJ tells David he's the one who should be feeling bad after the stupidity Saul's been engaged in. He says that Saul is up to his neck in Gerry's death.

The judge now interviews Saul, who is distracted by the court reporter transcribing everything he says. Saul claims that his dad made him get back together with Carmen because he found out about the kid. Since his dad took the car away after his accident, he had to get a ride from Gordo, and he figures that's where Gordo got the idea. The judge asks if they weren't both friends with Antolín. Saul claims he and Antolín were acquaintances, but Gordo was a really good friend, until the day Antolín gave him a good beating. "Gordo said he wanted to get even." Saul claims not to know the reason for Antolín and Gordo's falling out. "Did you know Antolín had a gun?" Saul says he didn't. He knows what neighborhood Antolín lives in, but he's never been in his house. He has been in Gordo's house a few times, to have some beers and stuff. He wasn't with Gordo on that day, though, and he's got witnesses. "And if you knew that on Mondays, Mrs. Curiel went out to run errands, why didn't you follow her on that Monday to find out if she was seeing your father?" Saul says he was going to, but when he asked Gordo to take him, Gordo said he had something else to do. Saul says he tried calling him after that day, but Gordo never answered the phone. The lawyer fills in that the cops are already looking for Gordo and for the vehicles involved in the attempted kidnapping, but so far they haven't found either.

JJ is upset that David is there to get his mother's money back. As far as he's concerned, Esther should consider herself lucky that he's going to let her have half of the ranch. David informs him that Esther is entitled to half of everything that JJ earned during their marriage. JJ says no way! He's the one who wheeled and dealed to "earn" that money, not Esther who was puttering around the house, doing her charity work. JJ refuses to negotiate and says with the rent from her half of the ranch, she should be able to live "like a queen" and he's not going to give her a penny more than that. David says he's going to fight for what's due to his mother and he hopes that things with Saul turn out ok. He starts to leave, but JJ has to get his final digs in. "Oh, I know what you're after! You want to end up with your mother's part of the property! Over my dead body! Don't you leave me talking to myself, you ***, come back here!" Since they muted him out, I'm not sure what he said…two syllables, looked like "puto" maybe, which would be a male prostitute, which doesn't quite make sense, so anyone else's guess is as good as mine. Damnit, don't they realize we're trying to get an education here? JJ starts feeling sick from all the drinking and the screaming.

The lawyer comes out of the judge's office and tells Ivan and Carolina that Carmen and Saul gave their testimony, but that doesn't mean Antolin is getting out just yet. It depends on the judge's "analysis". Probably he'll make his decision tomorrow, because that's the end of the time limit that the lawyer requested to gather additional evidence. The lawyer reminds him that the matter of the gun still isn't resolved. The judge isn't inclined to look kindly on Antolín for having possession of a firearm without the proper permit. Camilo asks how things look for Carmen and the lawyer says "good" in his usual "OMG you people bore the hell out of me" tone.

JJ's maid comes home from the market and nearly trips over him in the dining room.

Mr. 5ft and I very uncharitably advise the maid not to call just yet. I mean, after all, JJ will be very upset if he wakes up in the hospital and he didn't really need to be there. Best take a moment to be absolutely sure he's not ok.

The maid calls David, in tears, telling him she didn't know if he was dead or passed out, and all she could think to do was call the doctor whose number was written in his address book, but while the doctor was checking him out, the ambulance got there and they took him to the hospital. "Which hospital?" David screams at her…wait, is there more than one in Alamos? In any case, the maid doesn't know.

Lucrezia is calling JJ, but he's not answering his cell. Carlota jokes that Lucrezia is calling to take him up on his marriage proposal. Lucrezia Borgia MeanDragon has a nice ring to it. They're going to need a moat and a dungeon. Lucrezia scoffs at her mother and says she has to maintain good relations with JJ and she needs to ask his opinion on a certain matter. She ends up talking to the maid, who tells her that her prospective suitor is in the hospital.

David collects Judith and tells the secretary to let Toni know.

The secretary lets Toni know and he asks which hospital.

The Mondragon kids are all at the hospital. Saul brushes off JJ's insulin shock and subsequent coma. Saul gripes that if he doesn't die, he'll be a burden. He uses the word "bulto" package, baggage. David tells him lots of people get out of comas and get better. "It looks like you're enjoying this." Saul says if he dies, they'll have money and he'll be able to get his operation, so, duh, of course he's happy. Toni comes in and asks how JJ is. Saul tells him he's in a coma.

Ivan calls Lucia, who's playing with the baby and talking to Carlota. Ivan says he feels sorry for JJ, but he's like to see her. He suggests she come over and says Carolina needs her. Lucia doesn't want to leave Perlita alone, but Ivan would like to see her too. He offers to pick them up and drop them off. Lucia fills Carlota in and Carlota tells her to go. And if she wants to "tapar el ojo al macho" (cover the macho's eye; do it on the sly; make the situation look innocent) Carlota will go with them and spend some time with Toni. Lucia agrees to come over. She hangs up the phone and jokes with Perlita that they're going to see her daddy…but after she changes her super-stinky diaper.

The doctor comes out and tells the Mondragon kids and Toni that it's too soon to give a prognosis. Right now, he's in Intensive Care. He had a severe drop of glucose, probably from getting upset. "This is one of the risks of his illness." The doctor says that since he got medical treatment in time, he probably avoided any brain damage. He hopes JJ will come out of the coma in good shape. Saul asks if there's any risk of JJ dying. The doctor admits there's always a risk, but they can't get ahead of themselves.

Carlota tells Cleto to tell Lucrezia they've just gone out for a bit. Maripaz drives up just then, upsetting Carlota. She tries to suck up to Lucia, saying the baby looks cute, "She takes after me!" to which Carlota replies "brincos dieras!" (you'd jump at the chance; you wish!). Maripaz heard that JJ is in the hospital in a coma, so she came to tell Lucrezia. "And where are you two going?" They say they're going wherever the heck they want. Maripaz wants to wait for her mom. "I'll stay in the car if you don't want me to go in the house." Carlota tells her she can go in the house, but if she steals anything, this time Carlota will turn her in to the cops.

Lucrezia is upset that the doctor won't give a prognosis. David feels guilty about their argument. Saul says JJ fights all the time. David tells them they were fighting about the division of assets and Saul jokes that JJ must have set his eye on someone else, to agree to a divorce. Lucrezia jumps in and says now is not the time to be talking about that. She asks if Esther knows. Saul says she won't come, and it's better for Esther if she dies. When Lucrezia tells them not to fight because their father is on the verge of death, Saul crosses his fingers behind his back. Ah, but he does take after his daddy.

Ivan and Alex are happy to see Carlota and Lucia and Perlita. They all go to show the baby to Carolina.

Maripaz goes into Lucia's room and rubs the bottom of her shoe on the comforter. She opens her laptop and finds Lucia's presentation and deletes it, happily chirping "oops!" She hopes Lucia flunks her exam and everything goes wrong for her.

Ivan and Lucia ditch the kids to talk about "them." Ivan will wait as long as it takes. Or so he says, but now he's being as jealous a dick as Camilo was…"He came over to see Perlita, or to see you? Doesn't he understand you don't want him anymore?" Lucia is worried about Camilo accusing her of infidelity and taking Perlita away.

Camilo goes over to El Socorro and notices Maripaz's car. He goes into the house anyway. Dipshit. He runs into Maripaz, who informs him that everyone is out of the house. He starts to leave, but she stops him, saying they're alone. She wants to "talk" but Camilo tries to refuse. She proposes they become lovers. "No one has to know. It'll be our secret." Maripaz, haven't you seen this show? There are no secrets. "Come on, we both need it! What's wrong with finding consolation in each other's arms?" Predictably, he gives in.

Antolín is getting transferred to prison.

The ladies come home. Cleto tells Lucia he doesn't know when Maripaz left. She asks him to send Gloria upstairs to help her with Perlita.

Toni lets Ivan know that JJ is still in a coma and Antolín has been transferred to prison. They agree not to tell Carolina until the bandages are off.

Lucrezia fills Carlota in on the goings-on at the hospital. She mocks Esther for being upset when she arrived…"they're about to get divorced!" She says if JJ doesn't get better, she's sure as heck not going to saddle herself with him!

Maripaz and Camilo are in bed somewhere and he's ignoring Ivan's calls.

Toni counsels patience and consulting the lawyers. Apparently, being transferred to prison still doesn't mean that Antolín is guilty, so there's a chance for more evidence to clear him.

Antolín arrives at prison and meets his cellmates. Predictable hazing ensues. He tries to play nice, but ends up kicking the other guy's asses and warning them not to mess with him.

Maripaz wants to see Camilo again, but he knows if anyone finds out about them, it will make the divorce easier on Lucia. "I'll call you" he says and Maripaz smarms that he'll be back.

Lucia finds her files missing.

Camilo goes home just long enough to hear from Arcelia that Ivan's been trying to reach him to give him news about Antolín. He runs right back out the door.

Antolín sleeps while the guy in the cell across the hall watches his cellmates attempt to assault him again. And fail miserably, again.

Lucia tells her mom and grandma that Maripaz erased her files. And, ok, perfectly justified for her to be upset, but seriously, she's a grown woman. She should understand by now that going crying to Mommy and Grammy isn't going to fix anything. Password protection, frequent backups, changing her address and never letting Maripaz know where she lives…all of those things would have helped, but it's too late for any of that. Lucrezia asks why she's accusing Maripaz. Are you frickin kidding me?! That's about what Carlota says, only she's more polite than I am. Lucrezia doesn't think Maripaz would go so far. She accuses Lucia and Carlota of constantly demonizing her. Carlota says she sure as hell IS a demon, and tomorrow she's getting taken out of Carlota's will. And Lucia doesn't feel sorry for her about it, either.

Lucrezia calls Maripaz, who tries to pretend she's not drunk. Maripaz plays dumb about Lucia's file. "What would I have to gain from that?" Lucrezia tells her she's about to get disinherited. Maripaz says she doesn't care, cause she's just found a guy with the best bod…and he gives it to her the way she likes it "sexo rudo" (rough sex). Maripaz hangs up. Duuuuuude! You do not say shit like that to your mom! What the hell is wrong with you?! Lucrezia is shocked to be hung up on and repeats "sexo rudo" like she doesn't comprehend either word, much less what the two of them could have to do with each other.

Toni, Ivan, and Camilo meet in Toni's office. They fill him in and Camilo blames them. Camilo questions Ivan's "affection" for Antolín and tells him there's something he needs to know. "He's the one who knifed the guy that beat you up. When he saw he wasn't going to be able to pin it on you, he told you I had done it, knowing you'd do anything for me. Even leave for the US without protest. He didn't even care what was going to happen to you over there. He just wanted to save his own hide. And you were so naïve you believed the whole thing." Toni just bites his lips and shakes his head. Ivan tells Camilo that either way, Antolín saved his life. "You explain it to him, dad." Ivan leaves and Toni says that they really need to talk about his brother. Camilo agrees.

Ivan calls Lucia and she tells him that Maripaz erased her entire thesis. "Because she hates me!" Ivan tells her to retrieve the files from her hard disk. He learned a few things about computers and he offers to come over and help her. I'm going to laugh so hard if all he does is show her where the recycle bin is located.

Camilo now gets to yell at Toni about Antolín being in prison. He asks what the hell other proof are they going to be able to gather. Toni reminds him that if they can find that mechanic to corroborate Judith's testimony, it will help strengthen their case. Well, excuse me, but if they've already decided that even though he wasn’t there, he planned the whole thing, that's not going to make a bit of difference! Toni is going to pay a bunch of guys to cruise that stretch of highway until they find the mechanic who helped Antolín. Camilo accuses him of fixing everything with money. "What's wrong with using money to do some good? What do you have against us?" Camilo admits he's grateful, but everything Ivan does makes him look even better in Lucia's eyes, and Ivan is taking away the woman Camilo loves. Toni reminds Camilo that Ivan and Lucia were in love and engaged before that whole mess with Maripaz happened. Camilo is hurt that Lucia accepted him when he offered, but now that Ivan is back she wants to get rid of him. Toni asks him if he'd rather have a woman who's with him by force or one who is honest with him. One who doesn't love him, or one who's in love with him? "Where's your self-worth? You're a good guy, successful. You can find another woman." Camilo says Ivan can find another one. "Ivan already found a woman who loves him. Her name is Lucia. You can't take a person's love away. Don't be stupid. You can fight against anything…except love." Camilo accuses Lucia of being dazzled by Ivan's money and status. "Is that really what you believe? Then that means you don't know her."

Esther cries over JJ. She loves him, she just couldn't live with him. Judith says they've got to stay optimistic. "And what if he doesn't wake up?" She wants them to be prepared. Judith recommends shutting off the machines, but Esther won't hear of it. OK, first of all, "coma" is not the same as "hooked up to life support" and second…if it comes down to a vote, Saul's going to back her up on that!

Toni fills Ivan in on the conversation with Camilo, including the part where Camilo thinks Ivan is just trying to look like a hero in front of Lucia. Ivan can't believe it. "So what, then?" Toni says they keep going, for Arcelia's sake and for Carolina's sake, and as for the rest, they'll have to work that out. Or rather, Lucia will have to work it out, because Camilo won't quit being jealous. Ivan calls Lucia, who's still fussing over her laptop. "Nothing. Still sitting here trying to get my file back." Ivan tells her to calm down, he'll come over and look at it tomorrow, and if he can't figure it out, they'll call a tech. Do they have Geek Squad in Mexico? Equipo de Obsesos de Informática? Lucia is steamed that she's sure Maripaz did it and on top of that, she heard that Camilo's truck was there around the same time…but she's sure it was Maripaz and not Camilo.

Arcelia is up late, drinking some "té de tila" (lime blossom tea). She offers some to Camilo, but he'd rather stay grumpy. Carmen comes in and Camilo has to tell them that Antolín has been taken to prison. Carmen wants to turn herself in. She can't live knowing that her brother is locked up and it's her fault. Camilo reminds her she's not responsible for what Saul and Gordo did, and turning herself in won't solve anything. What if they accuse her of being Antolín's accomplice? They'll both end up in prison. Carmen insists she'll turn herself in and Camilo tells her she'll do what he says. Arcelia tearfully tells her to obey her brother and not complicate things further.

JJ is out of the coma and on his way to a regular room. There were some complications, though. He might have some physical limitations, temporarily, and he might need help moving around and feeding himself. He also might have trouble talking. Oh, great, that's going to make him even more pleasant than usual. The doctor takes Esther to see him just as Berenice and Enginiero Hottie (I'll remember his name eventually) come in to see David and Judith, respectively.

JJ is sedated and Esther wonders if he'll remember who she is. The doctor and nurse leave them alone together and the doctor tells her to keep him from getting upset. Because that worked so well the last eighty times. Esther tells JJ she knows the last few days haven't been easy for him, but nothing is more important to his health. She tells him she's ready to forget everything and stay with him. She says she loves him and gives him a kiss on the forehead, saying she'll always love him and she won't leave him unless he asks. But for now, she'll be there for whatever he needs.

Out on the highway, Camilo approaches a mechanic and asks him if he helped out with a classic convertible on Monday, but this isn't the guy.

The guy across the hall from Antolín's cell is apparently the "boss." He comes in to introduce himself as "El Mas Fregón" (The Big Bad, or thereabouts), but Antolín can call him "Jefe" (boss). Antolín insists on calling him "amigo" (friend) and says the only "jefe" he had is dead and buried ("jefe/a" is also used for parents) and he doesn't allow anyone to walk all over him. A guy tells "Jefe" to be careful with "Mister Antolín." Antolín says he doesn't want any trouble. "You can keep being El Jefe. All I want is to be left alone." Antolín walks out of the cell and the guy who warned Jefe comes in and tells him to be careful, that Antolín is like a rattlesnake, and attacks without warning. Jefe doesn't appreciate the warning.

Camilo approaches another mechanic, who also doesn't remember helping Antolín.

The guy who knows Antolín chats with him. He's only been in for a week, and Antolín asks about Gordo. Well, Gordo, being the brain trust he is, had told this guy that his next job was going to be a kidnapping. "Who was he going to kidnap?" Gordo didn't say, but he did tell the guy that he was going to make sure that Antolín got busted for it.

Camilo is pulled over at the side of the road and waits for another mechanic to stop. Finally, he finds the right guy.

Tomorrow: We're in ultimos capitulos…Camilo is still trying to get Lucia back; Antolín isn't making friends in prison; Lucrezia gets an eyeful of Camilo in a bath towel in Maripaz's hotel room; and Camilo still thinks he can fight Ivan for Lucia. Le sigh.

La Fuerza del Destino #83 Wed 11/30/11 Dining, Whining, y Caras Impactadas as two divorces begin brewing to the boiling point

Recap by Urban Anthropologist

Please provide any missing details. Gracias.

Antes

In the hospital in D.F. Carolina asks about Antolin while lying in the bed after the operation. Tony leaves to call Ivan while Carolina confides her anxiety to Lucia.

Nuevo

Hotel, D.F.: Ivan arrives at the hotel in D.F. and tells Tony what happened with Camilo and the Merry Piece, also the update on Antolin's situation.

Restaurant, evening: JJ and Lucrazia dine and whine, with lots of vino tincto.

JJ: After everything you've told me, don't doubt that Lucia will ask Camilo for a divorce. I spoke with him the other day about the fight with Ivan and he's dying of jealousy.
Lucrazia: And this stupidity is ruining everything.
JJ: Is it true he's been ordered off the ranch?
Lucrazia: My mother did that.
JJ: Carlota is very decisive.
Lucrazia: But I don't want another family scandal.
JJ: Lucrezia, times change.
Lucrazia: And what about your wife?
JJ (takes off his wedding ring): I will begin again. (drops the ring in the wineglass) That's what I think of divorce. She was good for nothing. And who knows? After a while you and I can get married. Think of it: Two important names, combining our ranches. We could recover the prestige we had. How does that sound to you?
Lucrazia: I will think about it.
JJ: Think about it, mi reina. Think about it. It could be a good solution. (pours more wine)

As long as we don't have to watch the wedding night, who cares?

Hotel Restaurant, D.F.: Lucia goes down to eat and finds Ivan at the table.

Lucia: What are you doing here?
Ivan: My father was tired and I asked if I could accompany you to dinner.
Lucia: He didn't say anything. Why are you in Mexico?
Ivan: I came for all of you to bring you back to Alamos.
Lucia: I thought he would send for Benito.
Ivan: Yes, but the only chauffeur he'll trust is me.
Lucia: Sounds a little presumptuous.
Ivan (amiably): But I drive very well, I have good reflexes, and this is an important cargo I'm bringing back. Besides I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to talk with you away from home. So we can open our hearts. My godmother told me you and Camilo have separated and she told me the reason.
Lucia: Well, it doesn't mean anything.
Ivan: If you say so, but why don't we talk like the good friends we used to be? Lucia, I know I'm the most responsible for what happened between us for putting my son before you.
Lucia: But there was nothing else to do.
Ivan: Maybe, but many times I've thought that there was another solution.
Lucia: What?
Ivan: Allow Alex to live with Maripaz for a while. Soon she would have started drinking again and I could have refiled for full custody. But he was too afraid to live alone with her.
Lucia: Ivan, you did the right thing.
Ivan: But it hurt me so much to leave you.

Casa Galvan: Camilo whines. And cries. Arcelia reminds him that he knew Lucia didn't love him when they got married. Same conversation as several times before, ending with him swearing he will not give Lucia a divorce. If she can't be his, she will not be anyone else's.

Hotel Restaurant, D.F.:

Ivan: And how is the baby?
Lucia: Very well. Very happy and healthy.
Ivan: And very pretty. Why did you name her “Perla”?
Lucia: It was Camilo's idea.
Ivan: I spoke with my godmother and she said Camilo is no longer living at the ranch.
Lucia: No. We have problems. Thanks for the dinner.

Ivan signals for the waiter.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for La Que no Podia Amar.

Hotel, D.F.: Ivan walks Lucia back to her room and kisses her, but chastely, She looks like she wishes she were elsewhere. Like a convent.

Casa Mondragon: David brings Berenice home to introduce her to JJ.

David: Papa! I present to you Berenice Escalante.
JJ: Holâ.
Berenice: Holâ. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir.
JJ: Escalante?
Berenice: Yes.
JJ: That's not a local name.
Berenice: No, my family is from Hermosillo. My father is a nuclear physicist and my mother is a professor of physics and math.
JJ: Interesting. And who works?
David (reproachfully): Papa!
JJ: You'll explain another time.
David: Berenice and I are novios. And when she gets her degree in child psych we'll get married.
JJ (sarcastically): Married? Do you make enough money to support her?
Berenice: I will also be working.
JJ: Getting married and working?
Berenice: Yes.
David: Dad, I'd like for you and mother to come with me to Hermosillo to ask for her hand.
JJ: No; it's better if they come here.
David: But it's the custom.
Berenice: Mi amor, it's not important to me, and less to my parents.
JJ: You really mean to get married to this –
Berenice: We're in love.
JJ: Are you aware of his problem?
Berenice: Yes. Don't worry; we've slept together.
JJ: You're very direct, aren't you?
Berenice: Yes.
JJ: Oh, well. That's your business. It was a pleasure to meet you. (exits)
David (sardonically): And now you've met my father.
Berenice: Mi amor! I'm not marrying your father or your family, or you mine. What do you say we go back to my place, have something delicious, and then you and I will make love?
David: Hmmm. (They kiss. JJ -- who has been watching them -- clears his throat)
Berenice: It was a pleasure to meet you, Señor Mondragon.
JJ: Carry on.

David and Berenice exit. JJ clearly doesn't believe he's seeing another decisive woman in his house. Get out of the Victorian era, JJ; strong women are the current norm.

Jail: Carmen visits Antolin. She tells him she won't let him pay for her stupidity. He is still determined to protect her at whatever cost to himself. He asks about Carolina, but Carmen hasn't heard anything yet. She surreptitiously slips him a cell phone. He makes her promise not to admit her guilt and she promises.

Hospital, D.F.: The doctor takes the bandages off Carolina,, who is afraid to open her eyes. Finally she does and sees Lucia and the doctor for the first time! The doctor tells her she still needs to wear the bandage and wants her to return in a week, etc.

Lawyer Zabaleta's Office: The receptionist informs him that Carmen is there to see him.

Jail: Antolin calls Camilo, who is out in the fields. He tells him he's worried about Carmen spilling the frijoles and how this will affect their mother.

Lawyer Zabaleta's Office: Carmen tells him of her role in the situation. She had been under the impression that Saul wanted her to help him help his dad with Lucrazia. She doesn't want Antolin to pay for her stupidity. At Zabaleta's enquiry as to her relationship with Saul, she tells him that he's the father of her child. Zabaleta is un poquito impactado.

Rancho Socorro: Ezekiel tells Camilo that Lucia went to D.F. with Carolina and Tony. Camilo flashes back to the time he taught Lucia how to drive the tractor. [Camilo, snap out of it!] Carmen runs out and Camilo gives her the same lecture about prison. Their mother is prepared for the day when something happens to Antolin but not to her. He talks about her being locked up with violent criminals and how she could easily be killed in prison. She tells him he can't stop her. She doesn't care if she goes to jail as long as Antolin doesn't pay for something he didn't do. Besides, she's already talked to the lawyer.

Road back to Alamos, night: Ivan drives back with Lucia in the shotgun seat. They stop. Tony gets out for a few minutes to stretch because his back hurts.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucrazia and Carlota talk about JJ's proposal.

Lucrazia: How lonely this house feels.
Carlota: Daughter, what do you know of Maripaz?
Lucrazia: Nothing. Mama, the other day we talked about Juan Jaime. Did you know he's getting divorced?
Carlota: Yes, you told me.
Lucrazia: What do you think – Juan Jaime proposed to me. Well, that we might get married.
Carlota: You and him? Are you crazy?
Lucrazia: Why not? He said we'd combine our ranches and our position would improve.
Carlota: Ah, how obvious it is. He's got his claws out for our lands. Tell him no.
Lucrazia: But Mama, we'd benefit. Besides he knows a lot; he's been about cultivation all his life. Now that we have nothing I don't have much confidence without him.
Carlota: And I don't trust Juan Jaime. He'll do what benefits him, as always.
Lucrazia: But if I was his wife...
Carlota: Ay, daughter if you marry him you'll be living in hell. As to the ranch you're not putting the lands in the hands of that shameless arsehole. [sinvergüenza] Punto.
Lucrazia: How negative you are.

No; just realistic.

Road back to Alamos: Ivan and Lucia stare at Cosmo's moon – which looks more like a pepperoni pizza than a giant snowball – and mention destiny. She finally admits she loves him. Kisses that look real. Por fin. ”That's amore.”

Commercial Break that leads with promos for El Talismán and CME.

Casa Galvan: Camilo lectures Carmen again about how horrible prison would be for her compared to what it would be for Antolin.

Angelina's Casa, morning: JJ arrives and Angelina tells him she's glad to see him and that he needs to prevent Esther from doing something stupid. “There has never been a divorce in our family. I pray to God this won't be the first. To think of the loss of values of our parents.” [Egad; she's either senile or nobody told her about David and the Merry Piece.]

JJ: What's up, Esther? Aren't you glad to see me?
Esther: Of course.
JJ: Well, then give me a kiss. (Kisses her, but she just stands there stiffly)
Angelina: Well, I'll leave you alone. You must have a lot to talk about. Can I get you a drink?
JJ: No, thanks. (Angelina exits)
Esther: You want to sit down?
JJ: Yes; after you. (They both sit) Esther, I miss you a lot.
Esther: Ah, si.
JJ: Your children miss you, too. Lucrezia asks about you.
Esther: I guess she asked about our divorce.
JJ: That's what I've come to talk about.
Esther: If you're here to get me to change my mind, you're wasting your time. I have made my decision.
JJ: Yeah; I've never seen you this firm. But no; I'm not here to try to get you to come back with me. After all, you have your reasons and I respect that. I came to say that I'm going to give you the divorce.

Hospital, D.F.: Ivan, Tony, Lucia, and Carolina leave. Ivan and Lucia are finally smiling. This obviously is a signal for the anvil to be hoisted.

Angelina's Casa:

Esther: I couldn't have changed my mind. Your infidelities and maltreatment will help me win. [conseguir]
JJ: I'd like us to avoid [evitar] the scandal and unpleasantness. It won't do us any good. A lo mejor, women always get the worst of it. You know that. But in exchange for avoiding those bad moments allow me to continue to manage your property that's part of the estate. What do you say?
Esther (ironically): I knew you'd try to get me alone for this.
JJ: It will benefit you, woman. If we're getting a divorce and dividing our assets, you aren't capable of managing the land.
Esther: You know what, Juan Jaime? I'm going to talk to David.
JJ: Well, there's nothing more I can do here. (gets up) I'm going.
Esther: Tell me the truth. Why are you suddenly agreeing to the divorce?
JJ: Because I have plans. Aren't you curious? Just to let you know my plans don't include you. Say goodbye to your sister for me. (He gives her the once-over before departing. What a tool. Esther rolls her eyes before sitting down again. Angelina re-enters)
Angelina: What happened? Has he left?
Esther: Yes. He agreed to the divorce.

Angelina is impactada.

Casa McGuire: Alex is happy Carolina is home.

David's Office / Angelina's Casa: David and Esther talk over the phone over the property situation

David: No, Mother. Things can't go that way. Whom does the ranch belong to?
Esther: The ranch is from your father's family. But my inheritance paid for repairs.
David: And the house?
Esther: Also his family, but my inheritance helped pay for the remodeling.
David: And the bank accounts?
Esther: Ay, son, I don't know anything about that.
David: Mom, I want to see all the papers to make sure everything is correct.
Esther: But I don't want to annoy your father. Leave things as they are.
David: No, Mother. You have the right to your share.
Esther: Son, I don't want to annoy him. I'm afraid.

Casa McGuire: Everyone finally convinces Carolina to stay there, as she can't live alone yet. Tony introduces her to Bruno, who seems to like her. She seems to like him, too.

Commercial Break

Rancho Socorro: Ivan takes Lucia home and he asks when they will see each other again. She reminds him of her exam in a few days while he's eager to see his daughter. She doesn't deny that Perla is his.

Ag Ass Office: Camilo explains to JJ about not wanting for Carmen to end up in jail. They talk about a solution. JJ tells the secretary to get Tony on the phone. Camilo doesn't see what good this will do because Ivan hates Saul enough to want to see him in jail.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucia explains about Carolina's operation to Carlota, who is glad that in the midst of all the turmoil Carolina gets the blessing of sight. Carmen exits uncomfortably, saying she's getting the baby's food. Lucia and Carlota notice that something is up with her.

Casa McGuire, Tony's office: Tony gets off the phone with JJ and tells Ivan that JJ was looking to get Saul to marry Carmen. There will be a meeting and Tony says Camilo will be there because this is about the future of his siblings. He asks if Ivan would like him to handle it, but Ivan wants to be present as well.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucia finally tells Carlota she loves Ivan, etc. She praises his fatherly ways and Carlota brings up the issue of whether he was jealous about Lucia sleeping with Camilo. She says that nothing has been said, that it's logical that a married couple would sleep together. Carlota comments that this speaks well of Ivan. The anvil's rope is starting to fray.

Casa McGuire, Tony's office: Zabaleta reveals Carmen's information. That Saul planned the kidnapping because JJ wouldn't pay for his surgery. He was looking for information about Lucrazia's routine; Carmen merely suspected that there was an extra-marital relationship between Lucrazia and JJ, who mentions he would have paid a ransom. And that after his divorce he will marry Lucrazia.

Hacienda Curiel: Carlota and Lucia talk about the divorce. Lucia is afraid of the pain this will cause Camilo, but Carlota reminds her that she needs to think of herself.

Casa McGuire, Tony's office: Licenciado Lara and his near-Italian accent ask Camilo if he knows El Gordo. Camilo answers in the affirmative. The guy's real name is Miguel Hernandez, but he seems to have disappeared. Camilo denies that Carmen knew about the theft of the pistol. Ivan points out that the place the pistol was found must mean something. JJ denies that Saul could have been involved because he took away his car after the accident. He implies that Carmen is dragging him into this. Ivan doesn't buy this and knows JJ doesn't. JJ accuses him of wanting Saul in prison out of hatred, but Ivan only wants to avoid sending an innocent man to prison. Saul got Carmen involved through false promises and now she's the one being dragged into this. Camilo agrees. JJ says to go ahead and arrest Saul, but that Carmen will have to answer for it as well. He leaves.

Lara is all for getting this out in the open. He asks Camilo whether El Gordo is a friend of Antolin's and whether there is a reason he would do this to him. Camilo says that Antolin gave him a bloody good hiding [paliza]. Finally he says that Antolin is willing to go to prison to spare Carmen. Carolina overhears this part and nearly falls on the step on her way into the room. Tony catches her before she falls.

Commercial Break

Casa McGuire, Carolina's room: Ivan tries to reassure Carolina, who is carrying on as she used to.

Casa Mondragon: Saul begs his father to help him.

Saul: Papa, help me. I don't want to go to jail. I promise I'll change.
JJ: But you're a pobre diablo. Useless. I should never have recognized you as my son. You're not the only bastard I have around here. [WTF???] (The phone rings twice) You're as useless as the servant. Nobody is answering. (picks up phone)

Licenciado Lara wants to see him and Saul in his office about this whole affair. JJ agrees and asks for the time and address. Who wants to bet he will throw Saul under the autobus?

Rancho Socorro, night: Camilo drives up to Lucia's room saying he's there to see Perlita, who is sleeping. Lucia doesn't answer her phone; Camilo realizes it must be Ivan. Camilo apologises and begs her not to leave him, but she doesn't want to discuss Ivan. Camilo tells her she might become Ivan's mistress, but never his wife because he will never give her a divorce.

Someone needs to tell him it's not easy to stop one.

Ivan gets the recorded message that the cell number is off or out of the service area. He calls Carlota, who goes to Lucia's room. Lucia tells her she didn't answer because Camilo was there. Carlota brings up the matter of divorce. Since Camilo was caught in flagrante delicto with Maripaz, Lucia has the perfect grounds. Lucia, however, starts singing her mother's favorite song “No Quiero Escandalos”. Carlota tells her it will get worse yet: JJ is divorcing Esther to marry Lucrazia. Lucia is impactada and her expression indicates distaste.

Avances:

Looks like the Merry Piece will get her way with Camilo as something appears to be wrong with JJ. Camilo is planning to accuse Lucia of infidelity and sue for custody of Perla.

La Fuerza del Destino #82 Tue 11/29/11 Everyone Changes Their Position on Everything and MP Nearly Gets Another Notch on Her Bedpost

All- Gloria was unable to get a recap up this evening, so I am providing these bullet points based on what I remember. I likely forgot some things and things are out of order. Please feel free to add anything I’ve forgotten.

-MP, Camilo and Ivan all get their wounds tended by family and doctors. MP is turned on by the idea of two lions fighting over their female (hembra), especially two lions with such amazing bodies.
-Lucia comes home to the news of the fight and first asks how Ivan is. She goes to check-in on Camilo who is on the phone with Celia. Celia wants him to go with her and Caro to Mexico City tomorrow for Caro’s operation (seems Caro changed her mind about not going without Antolin). Cam can’t because he is too battered.
-Lucia hears his half of the conversation, ignores his jealous interrogation about why she was in Ivan’s car, and decides that SHE will go to D.F. with Caro. Camilo immediately thinks Ivan will be going with her and gets even more crazy with jealousy.
-Camilo seems to have changed his mind about Carmen marrying Saul, because now he’s pressuring her to do it so that he can become the Ag Assoc president and get lots of money and power like Ivan. That’ll show Lucia!
-Carmen also seems to have changed her mind and decides she will not marry that delinquent.
-Tony decides to go with Caro and Lucia to D.F. He’ll rent a private plane to take them early the next morning.
-Tony and Carly decide that they had a huge part in causing this mess between Lucia-Ivan-Camilo, and they need to try to fix it.
-MP catches a mostly naked Camilo in his room and starts to skank all over him. He can’t move much because of his bruises, but does respond to her kisses. Next thing you know, they’re naked under the sheets and making out.
-Carly comes to talk to Camilo and hears him and MP panicking and getting ready to shove MP out the window. Carly busts in and starts yelling up a storm, bringing Lucia (who was on the phone with insistent Ivan) and Lucrezia running. Everyone is impactada at the sight of half naked Camilo and MP.
-Lucrezia kicks MP out of the house that very night, even after she insists that things didn’t go further than kissing. Lucrezia also tries to downplay what happened with Carly.
-Carly thinks this is the perfect opportunity for Lucia to get a divorce and move on to Ivan. Lucia continues to be stuck in limbo. She’s depressed and tired of BOTH men. She just wants to be alone with her daughter, with her women folk, and without problems.
-After Lucia leaves the next morning, Carly kicks Camilo out of the house AND takes away his ranch admin job and gives it to Ezekiel.
-Ivan and Celia visit Antolin in prison. He’s happy Caro went for the surgery. He’s antsy to get out of jail. Celia and Ivan tell him about Caro’s inheritance from Gerry. This actually complicates his case because it provides even more motive for why he would kill Gerry.
-The lawyers prove that Anto’s lock was forced. It helps a little, but not a lot. In order to show that Anto was not desperate for money, Ivan and Tony decide to (lie) say that Tony had already offered to pay for Caro’s surgery long ago. They get their story straight with Anto.
-Cute engineer asks Judith out again. She puts him off since MP has just called her crying and wants to see her. Cutie pie engineer is not deterred and makes a date with Judith for tomorrow instead.
-Judith and MP have dinner in her hotel room. Judith scolds MP for trying to get it on with her sister’s husband. She just did it to bug Lucia. MP still wants to get her a big hunk of Camilo pie.
-Camilo commiserates with JJ. Will these two be plotting with each other soon?
-In D.F., Caro’s doctor says the outlook is good before and after the surgery. As with the last time, Caro will not be able to fly back to Alamos when she is released in two days. Tony decides to ask Ivan to come pick them up.
-Lucia seems both excited and scared by the idea.
-When Tony presents Ivan with the idea he is hesitant, because he doesn’t want to be pushy with Lucia. He feels he’s pushed enough and now the ball’s in her court. Tony also changes his position on things and tells Ivan to keep fighting for Lucia.
-Camilo and Anto talk about implicating Saul and Gordo. Anto still refuses because it would lead to Carmen.
-Anto can’t believe Camilo was stupid enough to fall into MP’s trap. Camilo says he’s a man, isn’t he?! And he hasn’t had nookie in months! Anto tells him how he hasn’t touched a woman in YEARS since he’s been in love with Caro, and that doesn’t make HIM less of a man. (Take that Camilo!) He advises Camilo to let Lucia go if she is in love with Ivan. Camilo can’t force her to love him.
-When Celia finds out the reason Camilo was run off Ranch Curiel, she starts to knock him upside the head. Later she calls Ivan and tells him that Camilo and Lucia are caput. Ivan then looks a little more willing to make that drive to D.F.

Avances: Lucia and Ivan make up and make out.

La Fuerza del Destino #81 Mon 11/28/11 Camilo Continues to be an Idiot; Lucia Continues to be a Bad Liar; Ivan Continues to Refuse to Give Up

Camilo is being a stubborn jackass and is consulting David about finding a lawyer for Antolín instead of using the expert lawyer Ivan recommended. He makes David promise not to tell why his brother needs the lawyer then reveals the charges against Anto. David agrees with Ivan that Lic. Urbiales and his team are the best for this type of case. Camilo still insists on being dumb about it and refusing Ivan’s help. He’s sure Ivan’s just helping to get in Lucia’s good graces and steal her from him. David agrees with everyone in Viewerville that Cam is being an idiot. The problem his brother is in is one thing, and Cam’s Ivan-Lucia issues are another. And anyway, if they’re still in love, there’s nothing he can do about it. Cam says he’ll die without her. (Maybe so, if the black crow of death has anything to do with it.)

At the local pool hall, Carmen is trying unsuccessfully to put up with the catcalls of the regulars (one guy asks if Saul can lend her to him), so that she can find out what the heck Saul and Gordo did. She won’t permit that Anto stay in jail (el bote) because of them. She’s figured it all out. Gordo knew that her brother had a gun and took it, and their plan went awry when Gerry arrived. They better get her brother out of jail or she’s spilling the beans (soltar la sopa/ to spill the soup)! Saul wants them to speak somewhere else, and Gordo convinces her to go with them—-at knife point. (Yikes!)

Lic. Urbiales is meeting with Ivan and Tony and giving them an update on Anto’s case. Unfortunately, the time he arrived in D.F. versus the time he says he left Alamos don’t add up. Or at least it adds up to too much time in between. Ivan thinks he may have just made a mistake about when he left. Since Anto has forbidden them to speak to his girlfriend, who was the last to speak to him before he left, or to his mother, they can’t corroborate his story. Anyways, with a big crime like this in Alamos, it’s bound to be splashed all over the papers soon, with the accusations against Anto. Ivan leaves to speak to Cam and Lucia to prepare Celia for the news before she reads about it.

Tony asks the lawyer if he thinks Anto is innocent. The lawyer thinks he is, but he doesn’t have permission to enter the prison at will to be able to ask Anto clarifying questions right this moment.

Gordo and Saul have Carmen cornered on the bed in Gordo’s place. They are trying to convince her that it was indeed Anto who did it. She refuses to believe it. When they threaten that she’s implicated too, she says she’ll keep her mouth shut. They aren’t convinced that she’s sincere and that she would actually let her brother do time. Saul tries to scare her some more. Her brother is strong and can survive prison. But she wouldn’t be able to; she’d be raped right off the bat. Carmen spits it right back at Saul and says that he would be too, being a cripple, and so would butterball Gordo. The boys decide to up the ante. If she talks, they’ll cut her throat. Carmen promises again that she’ll keep her mouth zipped. Plus she has a daughter, who is also Saul’s, and she needs her. This is news to Gordo.

They are suddenly interrupted by loud banging on Gordo’s front door and Camilo’s shouting. Before Carmen can call out, Saul has her pinned to the bed under his body with his hand over her mouth and Gordo’s shut the bedroom door. For the second time in his life, Gordo is on the wrong end of Galvan rage. Camilo says he’ll beat him to death! (Matar a golpes!) Camilo correctly guesses that Gordo knew Anto had a gun and is likely behind the attempted kidnapping and the killing. Gordo swears he’ll tell the truth, and then tells a partial truth. He says it was the idea of his brother Anto and his sister Carmen. She thought it up to help her baby-daddy Saul get his operation. Camilo refuses to believe his sister had anything to do with this.

Suddenly he hears a woman moaning and starts making his way to the bedroom to see what’s going on, even though Gordo claims it’s a lady friend. Carmen has enough fight in her to manage to bite Saul’s hand and let out some good screams for her brother. Cam breaks the door down and then breaks Saul’s face. Carmen spills the beans about Saul and Gordo and that Anto had nothing to do with it. Cam starts dragging Saul to the police station, but Carmen is worried about saving her own skin and the fact that she’s implicated too. Saul also claims to have nothing to do with it. It was all Gordo and he knew nothing about what Gordo was planning. He doesn’t know if Anto was involved too, but he does know that Carmen would go down for this. Cam decides to let Saul go.

Ivan takes Lucia to Casa Lomeli. He thinks it’s best that Celia hears the truth about what’s going on from people she loves, before it comes out in the papers tomorrow. Lucia looks at him and marvels at how much he looks like Alex when he’s all energized. She says he’s a good man. She remembers how bent on revenge he was when he first came back, and how different he is now. They both admit the other has not left their thoughts. Then why are they still apart, Ivan wonders. What are they waiting for? Lucia doesn’t think it’s the right time to speak about this.

Inside, Carolina is worried that they haven’t heard from Antolin yet and she has a bad feeling. Lucia and Ivan arrive and Caro asks about Anto. Ivan tells her and Celia the truth about the gun and about Anto being in jail. Neither Celia nor Caro believe he was involved and Caro becomes hysterical.

At Casa Galvan, Cam is interrogating Carmen about how this all came about and what the heck she was doing in Gordo’s bedroom. She explains how they took her there by force. She explains what she originally thought the plan was—to watch Lucrezia, spy on her having relations with JJ, and to blackmail her. She thinks it was Gordo who must have changed the plan to kidnapping and framing Anto. Camilo demands to know if she realizes what she’s done. Their brother is in jail and she might go to jail too for being an accomplice. Didn’t she think of their mother! Lechita is with Celia so Camilo forbids Carmen from leaving the house. He leaves. Carmen calls herself an idiot (estupida). She will get no argument from Viewerville.

In Rancho Curiel, Ivan has just accompanied Lucia home and refuses to drop the subject of them. Their destiny is to be together! He leaves and leaves Lucia to her thoughts. What’s this? A smile? Camilo notices it too as he stares at her from the doorway. Carlota enters the other doorway. Lucia tells them where she’s been. Camilo paces the room like a caged tiger and asks how she got to Casa Lomeli since he didn’t see that her car had left. She explains that Ivan took her and brought her back, since Camilo wasn’t there. “Of course! Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!” Uh wait, wrong show. “Ivan, Ivan, Ivan!” He resumes his usual rant. No need to write it down. Lucia tries to explain again how important this all is for HIS BROTHER. She also explains about the missing three hours and the need to get Caro to verify Anto’s departure time. “Why didn’t anyone tell me?!” Lucia explains that it was the expert lawyers that Ivan contracted that found this all out. Camilo starts to act stubborn again about accepting the best lawyers in town to help his brother, so Carly tries to talk some sense into him. He needs to keep his pride in check if he wants his brother to go free. They have to set priorities! Same old Camilo lines. Lucia gives it a try talking sense to him. Ivan loves Camilo’s family and THAT he can’t doubt. She walks out. Carly tells him what’s important now is his family and that his mother not suffer. He and Ivan can duke it out later.

The next morning, Caro and the lawyer speak to the police commander. She confirms that both Gerry and Anto left around 11am. Gerry went to see Lucia because she’s having troubles with her husband. Caro claims to not know what those troubles are. Caro asks to speak to Anto. After she leaves the police chief says there are still those unaccounted 3 hours and they still need witnesses to help clear that up.

Celia and Caro visit Anto in the cells with one of the lawyers. He asks Anto about the missing three hours and he explains about breaking down by the side of the road. Are there witnesses? Anto can’t remember the name of the mechanic, but he does remember that Judith saw him.

The next day Lechita and Carmen arrive at the ranch and greet Camilo. Carmen asks him if he’s going to rat her out to the cops. Camilo doesn’t answer and leaves in his truck.

In the living room, Carly wants to know what Lucia is going to do about the Ivan-Camilo situation. She apologizes again for having pushed Lucia into this marriage. Lucia says that neither of them could have imagined he’d turn into this jealous idiot. Imagine, putting his absurd jealousy above his brother’s freedom! Lucia doesn’t think destiny wants her and Ivan to be together. (She obviously does not know the title of this tn.) Ivan will always be in her heart, even if he’s on the other end of the world.

At the jail, Camilo tells Anto who framed him and that Carmen was a part of it.

Celia and Caro pray at the church and cry over what might happen to Anto.

Anto and Camilo talk about what Carmen’s fate might be. Anto will not allow her to go to jail. He’d rather take the fall. Camilo doesn’t think it’s fair for Anto to take the blame. Anto thinks it’s best that their mother believe he, being the already identified black sheep of the family, did the crime and not Carmen. Anyways, once Camilo took the blame to save Anto from going to jail. Now it’s his turn.

The neebish lawyer updates the McGuires on Anto’s excuse for the missing three hours. Ivan calls Judith into the office to speak to them. But first, Camilo wants to speak to Ivan alone. He’s come to offer an apology for the way he’s behaved. He knows Ivan just wants to help but he (Camilo) let pride take over. Ivan accepts the apology, then tells Cam they’ve got a good lead for securing Anto’s freedom.

In the Curiel living room, Lucia is speaking to Berenice about their final exam. Bernie thinks they should asks for a postponement considering Lucia is in mourning. Lucia doesn’t want to postpone. Life has to go on. Ezekiel interrupts with an envelope for Lucia. It’s a demand for a paternity test for Perlita from Ivan. Lucia is pissed.

Ivan introduces Camilo to Lic. Lara and Judith enters soon after. She confirms that she saw Anto by the side of the road with his broken down car, that it was sometime just after 11 given the radio program she was listening to at the time, that he was with a mechanic and she offered him a ride, and she’s willing to testify on his behalf. Yay! After she leaves, the lawyer says they still have to prove that Anto didn’t plan it all, considering his gun was involved. Tony wants them to go look at Anto’s locks (la chapa) to see if it was forced, explaining the stolen gun theory.

At Casa Meandragon, Saul tells his dad that he’s in deep doodoo. He’s obviously told the sordid story. JJ wonders how he could be so stupid as to think he’s having an affair with Lucrezia. And why’s Saul in his biz anyway? Saul admits he wanted to blackmail him to pay for the surgery. “What you need is brain surgery!” (Strangely enough, the character he is currently playing in CME has a brain tumor.) He explains about Gordo. JJ’s solution is for Saul to go this moment and propose marriage to Carmen and legitimization of their daughter. That way she’ll have even more reason to keep quiet about Saul’s role in all this. Saul doesn’t like that solution. He thinks he’s too good for that naca. Who is he kidding?

Lucia looks on sleeping Perlita and rants to Bernie about Ivan’s paternity test demand. “Does he want to take her from me?” Bernie says of course he doesn’t. He just wants to know the truth. (Duh!) It’s normal that he be suspicious and think Perlita is his. “He has Alex, doesn’t he?” “You know better than anyone that one child doesn’t substitute another.” “But why this way?” Bernie suggests she talk to Ivan. Lucia would much rather rant some more about how Camilo would react if Ivan got visitation rights for Perlita. Bernie doesn’t think Ivan would put her in an uncomfortable situation. What Bernie is more concerned about is why Lucia is so scared of Camilo. Is he mistreating/abusing her? Lucia says no, but she’s not very convincing.

Saul calls Carmen and assures her it was all Gordo’s doing. He makes his proposal. If she keeps quiet about his role in this, then he’ll marry her and take care of her and Lechita. Carmen takes the bait.

Ivan tells Celia on the phone about the lastest updates in Anto’s case. She’s happy with the good news. She informs him that Caro was named Gerry’s heir, so she has inherited the house and the bank account. She tells Camilo and Caro the Anto update, but Camilo gets all stupid again and wants to know why Ivan is mixed up with the biz about Gerry’s will. Then he gets ticked off when they tell him Ivan helped them find the will and what was in it. “Ivan, Ivan, Ivan!” Celia is like the hundredth person to tell Camilo he’s being an idiot. Ivan is part of their family, he’s her godson, and Camilo owes him plenty. Caro begs them not to argue, and she and Celia speak about Anto’s case while Camilo broods in the corner.

Lucia calls up Ivan to tell him off. He apologizes for not informing her, but he forgot about it with all that’s happened. He’ll put an end to it if she tells him the truth about Perlita. Lucia claims he is not the father. Well, then Ivan doesn’t see what the big deal is about the paternity test being done. She says it’s an insult to Perlita, Camilo, and to her!

After Lucia hangs up on Ivan, Alex wants to know what the discussion was about. He knows the answer before Ivan even gets it out. Grown folk business. Tomorrow he starts school and needs to get to sleep.

The next morning, Ivan drops Alex off at the school. He then runs into Lucia and Bernie in town. He and Bernie meet for the first time and make small talk. Bernie makes a hasty retreat to leave Lucia and Ivan alone, and Lucia immediately starts an argument about the paternity test. Ivan thinks they should go somewhere more private for that discussion, considering they're in the middle of the street in the middle of town. She reluctantly agrees and gets in his car.

On the farm, JJ finds Camilo and tries to make small talk about the diversification of his crops. Then he gets to the real business at hand—this story that Carmen “made up.” JJ bullshits about how it was all Gordo and not Saul. Anyway, if his brother is going to be set free anyway (because of Judith’s testimony), then why bother implicating Saul? And anyways, that would implicate his sister Carmen too. If Camilo forgets about the whole thing, then JJ won’t take away his backing of Camilo’s bid to be the next Ag Assoc president. Plus, Saul will marry Carmen. Camilo would prefer that his sister remain a single mother! Well, then JJ will prohibit Judith from testifying on behalf of his brother.

Ivan and Lucia walk and talk. Same old argument. Why didn’t you wait for me? Why did you sleep with my sister? It was just once! And I was thinking of you the whole time! Lucia is a terrible liar. She denies that she hopped into the sack immediately with Camilo (true). But then she denies that the baby is Ivan’s and that she got married already pregnant (lie). And he knows the baby wasn’t premature. These things just don’t add up, and Ivan is REALLY good at math. Lucia starts to cry instead of admitting anything. Ivan begs her to get divorced so that they can marry. Lucia decides instead to hop in the cab that suddenly drives up, and takes off.

When he returns to his car, Ivan finds that Lucia has forgotten a copy of her thesis in the front seat. He smiles after reading the dedication: “To my grandmother Carlota, my father Gerardo, and Alex.”

Looks like she forgot even her purse in Ivan’s car, because she stops the cab in front of Bernie and asks for cash to pay for the cab. She tells Bernie that Ivan asked her to get divorced and marry him. “Well then, get divorced!”

Lic. Lara explains the next steps to Anto in the jail. He wants to know if there is anyone who would want to frame him. There’s still no way to prove he didn’t plan the whole thing, and the gun is, well, the proverbial smoking gun. They’ll check his locks, but justice moves slowly and Anto will need lots of patience.

The D.F. doc calls to tell Caro that a compatible cornea has been found and she will need to come immediately. He tried to call Anto but got no answer. Caro claims he’s traveling. The doctor says she needs someone trustworthy to accompany her right away. Celia offers to go with her, but Caro refuses to go without Anto since he’s the one who made all the sacrifices to make this happen.

JJ tells Saul how he screwed up since it’s his fault Camilo refuses to accept his bargain. If Camilo denounces Saul, then JJ washes his hands of Saul.

Ivan pulls up to Rancho Curiel to return Lucia’s things that she left in his car. Unfortunately, the welcome party is Camilo and he wants to know what the heck Lucia was doing in Ivan’s car. Ivan says they had to talk about personal stuff. He and Lucia love each other, the baby is his, and if Camilo was man enough he would give her a divorce. Camilo laughs, calls him crazy, then punches him. It’s on! Full out rumble on the Curiel lawn, with Ezekiel trying to stop them, while not being stupid enough to jump in the middle of it. MP and Lucrezia run out and also try to get them to stop. (Thankfully the only time we’ve seen these two tonight.) MP is not as smart as Zeke, gets too close to the melee, and gets popped in the mouth and knocked to the ground by Camilo’s flying elbow. The two snorting bulls don’t even notice and grip each other’s lapels, fists ready to fly some more.

Avances: Camilo is caught naked, getting it on with MP in bed, by the whole Curiel family.

La Fuerza del Destino #80 Fri 11/25/11 With Morning Comes Mourning

(So Viewerville has cornered the market on Kleenex for this episodio.  Without those happy pills before viewing, nobody would have been able to make it through the first half.)  Lucrecia, Carlota, Lucia and Camilo wait patiently in the little hospital lobby till the doctor brings Carolina back to them.  They get the news from Carolina and the doctor that Gerardo didn’t have the will to live and thus has left them all for the “más allá”, aka, The Great Beyond.  Tears aplenty.  Maripaz walks in a moment later after getting her beauty sleep and allows a tearful eyeful for herself with Mama.  Lucia calls Ivan to tell him the news, while Cam tries getting hold of Antolin, for Caro’s sake, but can’t get him to pick up.

Ivan tells Anthony, who suggests it’s time that Alex learns what death is about and to take him with them to the funeral home [funeraria = funeral parlor, undertaker’s].

Lucia calls home and finds out that Carmen has flown the coup.  She’s supposed to be taking care of Perlita, but just up and left.  Gloria’s with the baby now and Cleto and another ranch hand are outside with their shotguns [escopeta] protecting against any intruders.

Lucia asks Lucrazia what they should do about Carolina, but selfish Lucre begs off saying she doesn’t have the presence of mind to think of such things now. Cam suggests getting Arcelia to go take care of her.  Lucia thanks Cam and gives him a peck on the cheek.  It’s the first time she’s touched him in days/weeks and he nearly swoons.

Tony tells Ivan it’s fine if he asks Caro to spend a few days there at the compound.  It will do both Alex and her some good to be with each other for a while, he thinks.  Iv mentions that Caro and Anto are apparently an item these days.  Alex walks in and asks for news about his gramps. They tell Alex who begins immediately crying over the loss of his abuelo.  He wants to see him at the wake.

That night, Cam calls home trying to find Antolin and tells Arcelia about Gerry’s dying.  She tells him that the news scared Carmen so much that she came home.  Came calls her reckless and irresponsible to just leave like that.  (Viewerville agrees.)  Anyway, Celia doesn’t really know where Anto went or when he’s due in.

Carmen walks into the kitchen with Lichita and Celia gives her grief for leaving the ranch like she did, and says that now Cam’s furious with her for it.  Celia tells her to get her stuff and get back to El Socorro ASAPP and to take Lichita with her.  She’s staying with Carolina tonight because Don Gerardo kicked the proverbial bucket and the whole town, practically, will be at the funeral home for the wake tonight.

Carmen calls Saul as soon as she finds out about Gerry and tells him the old guy croaked. If the police come after her she’s going to tell them about the whole friggin’ mess, cuz she sure isn’t to blame for what happened!!   Click!!  Saul knows that he is, tho’.  Before he can think about what to do next, Juan Jaime walks in and says it’s all over the radio about Gerry’s death after being attacked.  He orders Saul to come with him to the wake to represent the Meandragons.  Saul tries to beg off, but JJ won’t allow it.  Knuckle-head!

First come the Meandragons with JJ looking too sexy for his shades, which he apparently wears at night.   The McGuires show up right after.  Ivan and Lucia exchange tearful looks.  Alex and Caro weep and we see Gerry “sleeping with the angels.”  Tony gives his sympathies to Lucrazy who, in between sobs, agrees he was a good man but that she realized it too late.

The next morning, Comandante Aguilar tells Cam that they found a revolver with Antolin’s fingerprints on it near the shooting.  Cam tries explaining that Anto left early in the mornong for Mexico City and he doubts Anto could have had anything to do with it. Besides, Anto is engaged to Don Gerry’s S-I-L and was on good terms with him. The gun could have been stolen or Anto could have sold it for all they know.  Maybe his phone battery was dead, but he couldn’t reach him.  The Comandante says it could be that he ran away when he found out the kidnapping failed and Gerry died.

Inside, Carmen tells Lucia how sorry she is over Gerardo’s death, and who knows, maybe she’s actually sincere.  Either way, she’s definitely upset when she sees the police are questioning Camilo.

Ivan, meanwhile, has brought Carolina and Celia back to Gerry’s house.  Ivan excuses the need to do so and begins to ask whether the house belonged to Gerry or the bank.  He apparently bought it outright.  Is there any will?  Caro has no idea.  He offers Caro to live with them at their compound, and Alex begs her to come back with them, for Alex’s sake if nothing else.  Caro is grateful and apologizes for the rude way she treated him early on.  Ivan forgives her and says that’s all in the past.  Anto calls home and finds out from Ivan about Gerry’s murder and the attempted kidnapping of Lucrazia.  He tells Caro he’s driving back to Alamos ASAP.

Anto calls Cam next and finds out that the bullet they dug out of Gerry was the same caliber as his old revolver and that the police have the gun with his prints on it and are blaming him.  Antolin insists he hasn’t used that old gun in years!

Back at Gerry’s, Caro insists on staying at the house til Anto returns to town.  Celia stays with her and Caro tells Ivan that she really doesn’t want to stay with them and Alex right now.  They put her to bed for a nap.

At Sucker’s Ranch again, Cam tells Lucia that he’s not going to be able to sleep a wink till Antolin gets back and proves he wasn’t involved.  Unfortunately, his gun was used and so he’s implicated no matter what.  They walk into the dining room for breakfast with the others and Cam tells them what the police told him.  Lucrazy goes wild and claims his good-for-nothing brother had to have been the cause!    Meanwhile, Maripaz knows the plot and realizes what’s up.  Her eyes go wide as she listens to Cam tell her mama it couldn’t have been Antolin because the gun was stolen and he went off on a trip to Mexico City early that morning.  Lulu doesn’t buy it and tells him he and MP both know his brother has a record/yellow sheet [fichito] a mile long!!  He’s a criminal who knew she had money and wanted to kidnap her to get some of it!!

Carly’s antennae shoot up and she wants to know how Lucrazia would know Antolin’s a criminal type?  She just does and that’s all, screams Lucrazia!  That’s what they get for getting involved with people of that type and class!  She tells Cam she’s glad the police have his fingerprints on the pistol and she hopes he rots in jail for it!  Lulu races out of the dining room in a huff.  Cam apologizes to Carly and says he doesn’t know for sure but he’s certain it couldn’t have been his brother.  Merry Piece keeps her mouth shut and acts like the innocent bystander she probably wishes she was about now.

In town, Saul meets up with Gordy at the dive they usually drink at.  They figure the cops have got the prints from the gun and are looking high and low for Antolin.  Gordy is sure that if Anto finds out he’s being sought be the police he’ll stay in the D.F. and far from Alamos.

However, Anto gets stopped by the cops on the lookout for his car and gets arrested for kidnapping and homicide.  He’s ay, ¡caramba! impactado when he hears the charges.

Meanwhile, Cam tries comforting Lucia in her bedroom.  She says she could have handled it better if it were a deadly disease, but such a sudden death leaves nobody prepared.  They are both worried now for Anto, and neither one believes he’d be capable of doing such a thing.  Cam will stick around the house today and help her with Perlita.

Ivan agrees with Tony’s suggestion to take Alex to see Lucia so the boy can commiserate with other family members.  Benito will come along in case there are other kidnappers about.

The comandante has Antolin brought in ro his office and tells him what we all know, that Anto has a pretty bad reputation around town, especially for dealing drugs and pimping prostitutes.  Anto says that’s all rumors and he’s got no proof of any of that, not to mention, there’s no rap sheet of any sort on him—ahh, something Viewerville didn’t know.  He’s never been arrested for anything till now.  There’s a gun with his prints on it that was used in a murder and an attempted kidnapping, the comandante reminds him.  “--Hey, that gun isn't exclusively Army  issue and I bought it four years ago.  I never used it.” The comandante reminds him he had no permit and Anto repeats that he said he never used it.  Anyway, he explains to Aguilar, he was nowhere around cuz he’d already headed off to Mexico City.  Aguilar suggests he could have fled right after the bungled attempt and shooting Gerardo. Anto asks if Aguilar really believes he’d be stupid enough to leave his gun behind and alleges that somebody tried to incriminate him.  The gun was stolen from him.  What time did the crime occur?  Aguilar says the crime took place around 11 A.M., quite a coinkydink, wouldn’t you say?  Antolin wants his one call.

Anto calls and explains what’s happened to Cam, who says he’s coming down there right away.  Anto tells him not a word to Caro or Mama.  He tells Lucia what’s up and to stay mum.  She says she’ll start looking for a lawyer.  She calls Ivan and says come over immediately because she has to speak to him.  (Yes, we all know it could have been handled over the phone, but that lacks spicy drama and would be a snoozapalooza.)

Cam gets 10 minutes with Anto in the cellblock.  Anto swears it has to have been one of his many enemies.  Who? Mini-Meandragon and his sidekick, that’s who.  Why? Well, admits Anto, he gave Gordy a hell of a beating and he was, in a way, sort of responsible for Saul’s car accident.  Cara de incredulity for Camilo.

Ivan arrives with Alex.  Hugs all around.  Alex plays reluctantly with Lichita while Ivan goes inside to the living room with Lucia.  He tells her he knows that Antolin was always a reckless kind of guy, but to plan a kidnapping and to kill an innocent man—never!  Lucia wants him to suggest a lawyer.  “—And you really think Camilo will accept my advice???” Cam walks in on them. “--I am already looking for a good lawyer!  I don’t need your help, Ivan!”  Lucia leaves the two alone to argue it out.  He growls at Ivan for being alone with his wife while he’s out of the house.  Ivan says this discussion had nothing to do with her or him, only his godmother, Arcelia.  Cam figures things will work themselves out because his brother is innocent.  Sure, says Iv, but you’ve got to prove it!

Lucia explains what’s happening to Carmen.  Big Bro Anto is in jail cuz they found his gun at the scene of the crime and the bullet matches up with the caliber, yada, yada, yada.  Big cara de Ruh-roh! for crazy, vindictive, gold-digging Carmen.

Iv and Cam agree that Antolin couldn’t have done the deed and that more than likely it was Saul and Gordy looking to get even with his big bro.  Cam agrees to use Zavaleta, the best criminalist in town, but only if he pays the guy rather than Ivan.  The two of them figure that once they look into Antolin’s movements during the day they’ll prove he couldn’t have been involved.  (Viewerville is screaming for Anto to remember to tell them all about the car breaking down and the mechanic he bought the fan-belt from.)  “--Well, somebody had to see him on the highway, or in the parking lot or something!”  “--I know, but I also know my brother had nothing to do with this!”  “—I agree, buddy!”

Cam gets huffy and now punches Ivan in the chest.  “--Really?  You think you’re still my friend?” Look, says Iv, this has nothing to do with you and me and Lucia.  This is all about Antolin.  Cam keeps punching him with his pointer finger and demanding to know what it does have to do with.  Ivan tells him that has to do with reality.  “--So, according to Iv what is reality?  That she prefers you over me?“  Iv purposely ignores him and avoids the beat down.  “—I’m going for the attorney.”

Cam goes in to Lucia’s room and screams at her for bringing Ivan around.  “--He only wants to take you away from me!”  “--But he’s very influential, and that’s why I called him for you!”  He doesn’t need his influence!  Heck, just like all women!  Just like his first wife who left him because he lost his job and became a Mr. Nobody again!  Well, he’s soon going to have all the power and influence he needs cuz he’s going to be the new Ag Association president.  Lucia screams back that if she leaves him it would be because of his petty jealousies.  She’s sick of this so get out!  Cam grabs her arm and raises his hand to strike her.  “—You can’t run me off!  I’m your husband and I have rights!”  “—Oh, yeah?  And so what?  Go on then, hit me!”  Cam realizes what he’s just done and goes into their old bedroom.  He whispers to nobody in particular, “—Forgive me, my Lucia!  I am going crazy!”

Zavaleta has a meeting with Ivan and Tony and suggests another lawyer, his associate Lic. Lara, who specializes in these types of cases.  Iv swears that though Antolin might be a bit shady in his dealings with the criminal element in Alamos, he respects and protects his family and close family friends above all else.  He’d never try something like this with any of them.

The two lawyers attempt to speak with Antolin at the jail.  Anto starts to tell them his movements during the morning but gets stopped when Caro’s name comes up.  He warns them that neither she nor his mother are to know that he’s being accused of this.  Zabaleta says they’ll eventually find out.  “—I said not a word to Carolina nor to my mother!”

Meandragon makes it over to Lucre-zia’s to check on how she’s handling Gerry’s passing, and to no doubt offer a little “consolation” if need be…..  Lucrazia tells JJ that it was Antolin, the man who’s working for him at the Ag Association who’s been charged with her ex-hubby’s death.  The police found a gun with his fingerprints all over it at the scene of the crime.  Juan Jaime remembers then that Anto tried wheedling money from him to pay for Caro’s eye operation.   And to think he backed his brother for president of the organization, too!   Forget him, says Lulu!  Those people are all alike—all criminals!

Cam calls the McGuires and Tony answers the phone.  He tells Tony to give Ivan the message that he doesn’t need his help for his brother and to stop messing in his business.  Tony tells Cam to tone it down a bit.  It’s not like he and his brother are the bellybutton of the world or some such; Ivan’s not doing this for him, anyway.  He’s doing it for his godmother; so stop looking a gift horse in the mouth—or, literally, don’t go spitting into the soup Tony’s given him to eat!

La Fuerza del Destino #78-79 Wed 11/23/11 No sex, but lots of lies that should be on tape

Recap by Urban Anthropologist

Feliz dia de accion de gracias. Please provide any missing details; I missed a few insults that (as usual) aren't in the dictionary. Gracias.

Antes

Lucia tells Carlota that Camilo has changed; Camilo and Ivan argue; Ivan enquires about Perla's paternity. Carlota orders Maripaz out of the house because she tried to start something with Camilo.

Nuevo

Rancho Socorro: Carlota isn't fooled by Maripaz as Lucia and Tony observe.

Carlota: Leave my house this minute!
Lucrazia: Mama, have you gone crazy?
Carlota: She is the crazy one. Last night she was seen kissing Camilo near the stables. [caballerizas] And don't try to lie!
Maripaz: But he forced me!
Carlota: I know your deceptions. Don't try to blame him. But you are going right now!
Maripaz: But I don't have any money right now and I have to buy a new car.
Carlota: That doesn't matter!
Lucrazia: But Mama. Señor Anthony is here.
Carlota: I'm sorry, Anthony.
Tony: Don't worry.
Carlota (frustrated): [???]
Maripaz (to Lucrazia): But you believe me, don't you? It was him!
Lucrazia (taking her arm to lead her inside): Let's go. (leads her inside)
Alex (touching Tony's arm): Abuelo, should we go?
Tony: Yes, we're going.
Carlota: I'm sorry, but when the blood goes to my head I don't understand such evil!
Tony: Don't worry, Carlota. See you later, Lucia.
Lucia: See you later.
Carlota: I'm sorry, hija, but when Cleto told me I couldn't contain myself. [juantarme?]
Lucia: Me neither, Abue. Don't worry. I can't hold that against Camilo because the other day I ran into Ivan. He kissed me and I returned it.
Carlota: Lucia! Lucia! What are you going to do now?
Lucia: I don't know.

Hacienda Curiel, inside: Maripaz tries to snow Lucrazia about this so she will get her a new car and prevent Carlota from throwing her out on her skanky arse. Lucrazia is looking at her with appropriate suspicion.

Maripaz (complete with her trademark crocodile tears): I'm telling the truth. I was outside having a soft drink when Camilo arrived. I was very upset because Lucia is out of their bedroom. We talked a little then he grabbed me and forcibly kissed me.
Lucrazia: And why didn't you reject him? Why didn't you give him a slap? [cachetada]
Maripaz: How do I hit a man of that size? Who told you this gossip?
Lucrazia: I don't know. Gloria or Cleto.
Maripaz: Then fire them because this isn't the truth. At the moment I can't go because I don't have a car. Where could I go?
Lucrazia: Look, Maripaz, I don't know if you're telling me the truth or not because I know you. I know what a [??] you are.
Maripaz: Alright; if you want, I'll go. But when I get my alimony payment at the end of the month.
Lucrazia (getting up): I'll go see what I can say to your grandmother.
Maripaz (grabbing her arm): Mama, I am your daughter. If you make me go what will happen to me?

Lucrazia really shouldn't care.

Casa McGuire: Tony tells Alex he doesn't want Ivan to know what happened. Benito seconds him. Alex is about to find out more about adultery than any kid his age should know.

Rancho Socorro: Ezekiel and Carmen gossip about Maripaz and what just happened. We find out that Carmen doesn't have a high opinion of the Merry Piece.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucrazia tries to convince her mother not to expel Maripaz. She doesn't want knowledge of this incident to get past the ranch. Lucrazia admits she did a bad job of raising MP. She doesn't want anything on her conscience [she has one?] if anything were to happen to Maripaz. Finally Carlota tells her “one month and not a day more.” She doesn't want Maripaz anywhere near Lucia and Camilo.

Ag Ass Office: JJ tries to blame the fraud on secretarial incompetence, but Antolin isn't fooled. JJ asks why Camilo didn't accept the presidency and Antolin explains that he has other matters to deal with at the moment. Antolin then asks for some vacation time he needs to help Carolina. JJ uses another insulting word I didn't understand, but Antolin doesn't take the bait. JJ plans to dock his pay for those days he'll be out. So much for this being a cushy job.

Hacienda Curiel, Maripaz's Room: Lucrazia tells Maripaz she can stay until she gets her next alimony payment.

Lucrazia: Your grandmother forgave you. Well, it's not that she forgave you but she's allowing you to stay hear one month until you get your alimony payment.
Maripaz: But it isn't my fault! He kissed me first –
Lucrazia: It's of no importance to me who did it first or whose fault it is. The condition is that you stay far away from Camilo. Is that clear? (Maripaz nods) Now prepare yourself for the scandal because your crazy grandmother dragged it in the gutter [del en arroyo] in front of Señor Anthony. Is he going to tell Ivan? You can bet on it. Tomorrow the lawyers will be here to provoke a divorce between Lucia and Camilo. [Is she for real?]
Maripaz: So what if they divorce?
Lucrazia: Look, Maripaz, listen up. You've wallowed in enough mud. [lodo] The pregnancy, then you divorce David, marrying Ivan, then ending up divorced for infidelity.
Maripaz: That was a trick Ivan pulled.
Lucrazia: I don't believe you! It doesn't help your reputation. You killed a woman while driving drunk. And every time I see Antolin near the ag ass he has the nerve to smile at me. He knows I paid money for somebody's silence.
Maripaz: Antolin is a friend, Mama.
Lucrazia: Antolin is nobody's friend, Maripaz! What more do you want? To ruin us completely?
Maripaz: Mama, I assure –
Lucrazia: Don't promise anything because I don't believe you. And if you're so hot to have a man look up Ivan. I know he boinked you every night. If you have that much power over him reconquer him and get back together with him. It's time you rescued your dignity because it's in the dirt. (gets up and exits)
Maripaz: It should only be so easy. Besides, neither are you so dignified. Bastarda!

Just when we thought Lucrazia was showing some sense. She is at least consistent in her indifference to Lucia.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for La Que No Podia Amar.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucia and Carlota talk about this again, including the possibility of her getting a divorce. Lucia lists the complications of the situation, complications she'd rather avoid. Carlota tells her that she has the same right as any woman to be happy with the man of her choice.

Casa McGuire: Ivan brings Alex a book, but Alex is sad that everything turned to merde when he went to visit Lucia. Ivan tries to get Tony to talk about this, but Tony isn't tattling. He only tells that Maripaz is living there. Nothing else happened, but Ivan isn't fooled, as Tony didn't look him in the eye. Ivan goes out to Alex to show him the books he bought him. Alex spills the frijoles.

Hacienda Curiel: Carlota asks Camilo how he could look her in the eye after kissing Maripaz. She doesn't want to hear any more about it but tells him to come up with a good explanation for Lucia and warns him that gossip spreads quickly.

Hacienda Curiel, Lucia's Room: She talks on the phone about the exam, which is in 15 days. Camilo tries to tell her what happened, but she doesn't want to hear anything. She finally tells him that their marriage isn't working. It's not about what happened with Maripaz, it's that they got married for the wrong reasons. Of course Ivan's name gets into this. Just as he attempts to put the moves on her she is saved by Perlita's crying. Camilo won't be getting any.

Casa Galvan, night: Carmen gossips to Arcelia about what's happened as Antolin walks in. Arcelia isn't buying it. Antolin is incredulous because everyone knows that Maripaz is a Merry Piece. [Maybe someone can translate the phrase he actually used.] Antolin is a bit frustrated that Camilo doesn't want the presidency of the Ag Ass because it would raise his stock with Lucia. However, Arcelia points out that Lucia isn't like that and that love doesn't know from social class.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for Navidad S.A. where our Tony (Pedro Armendiriz, Jr.) becomes Santa Claus.

Casas Mondragon / McGuire: Judith tells JJ she's going to visit her mother at the end of the week. He tries to get her to talk Esther into returning to him. He actually thinks Esther needs him! She tells him she can't promise anything. When he dismisses her she kisses him and he doesn't kiss her back. Did we ever see him kiss his wife or kids? He calls Tony to talk about the next Ag Ass meeting. Tony tells him that Ivan isn't likely to be there, so JJ asks for David to stand in. Ivan comes in and they talk business. They finally talk about the ugly incident.

Ivan: Why didn't you tell me something happened between Camilo and Maripaz?
Tony: It was nothing, really. Who told you?
Ivan: Alex. Then you left. Does Lucia know?
Tony: Yes, she knows. Lucia was present when Carlota yelled.
Ivan: How did she look? How did she react?
Tony: Disconcerted. Do you believe Camilo would have a relationship with Maripaz?
Ivan: I don't think so. Except that he's changed.
Tony: Over jealousy.
Ivan: Think we should have Maripaz watched by an investigator?
Tony: L.A. is a huge city full of people, multitudes. Por favor, hombre! Maripaz now lives on a ranch. What investigator would be able to infiltrate that? And of course if anything were to happen between them we'd hear about it. No quitas [???]
Ivan: I won't stop.
Tony: Lucia is from a traditional family. Her mother and grandmother – like conservative people – wash the dirty laundry indoors. Not like Maripaz, who doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. I don't think Lucia wants to face the scandal of a divorce.
Ivan: Then she will be unhappy the rest of her life. Because she loves me.
Tony: The only possible way she will be happy the rest of her life is for you to disappear.
Ivan: No. The reason I came here is to fight for her. She is the woman of my life.
Tony: Good luck, then. But I won't do anything to help you.

Tony, you just disappointed all of us.

Casa Lomieli: Antolin tells Gerry and Carolina about this with the goal of getting Gerry to talk to Maripaz. They all understand Maripaz, but Antolin makes the definitive statement that Maripaz isn't happy unless she's hurting someone. Gerry finally decides he needs to speak with both of his daughters.

Casa McGuire / Hacienda Curiel: Ivan reads Alex to sleep (awww!), then thinks about his last meeting with Lucia. Flashback to the chemistry scene. Lucia thinks of the same meeting. Flashback to a different moment.

Commercial Break leading out with the crow image.

Ag Ass Office, the next morning: JJ calls the meeting to order. The discussion of the insurance claim comes up. He actually attempts to blame the “misunderstanding” on the secretary he terminated “for incompetence.” He tells them that the checks will be handed to them in a few days.

Rancho Socorro: Maripaz' new red convertible is delivered. Carmen looks on with resentment.

Ag Ass Office, the next morning: The members want Camilo to take over as president. JJ proposes that it be David. The others object, thinking David would be just like his father. Tony backs him, saying he's honest. Camilo agrees and nominates David.

Town: People are surprise to see Maripaz. Maripaz sees Saul with his cane; to our surprise es impactada. She has lunch with him and El Gordo at an outdoor café. When Saul tells her his father won't help him with his medical issues, Maripaz tells him she would except that her alimony only takes care of herself. When Saul asks why the divorce she tells him “Ivan never could forget Lucia. He made up lies about me to get the divorce.” She tells him that she's at her grandmother's ranch for the moment, but isn't sure of her plans except to get an apartment. Saul welcomes her back and they toast (with beer, which I didn't expect to see her drinking).

Casa McGuire: David explains to Tony and Ivan he's uncomfortable with the possibility that he will have to expose his father's frauds. The first thing he would need to do is get an audit and that would be that. They discuss why Camilo didn't accept (family problems) and David says that someone will have to convince him.

Casa Lomieli: Antolin isn't happy with the situation; he knows Camilo would be an effective head of the association. He has the same conversation with Gerry and Carolina, who point out that Camilo being president would make no difference to his marriage. Lucia loves Ivan, punto. Antolin tells Carolina she's just like his mother, then asks Gerry for her hand in marriage. We're going WTF because Carolina is not even a blood relative but Gerry says OK. The operation will happen first, though.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for MQB highlights, which will precede the Christmas movie. We return with an image of Camilo and his pet crow.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucia and Carlota talk about the meeting and Lucia's exam. Carlota wants to give a party to celebrate Lucia's degree, but Lucia says to keep it small. Carmen takes her leave of them.

Car, on the road from Rancho Socorro: Saul and El Gordo talk about their upcoming scheme. Carmen is walking toward them, so they stop talking and Saul tells her they're waiting for her and why don't they go out and eat. She accepts.

Casa McGuire: Ivan and Alex talk about whether to go back to LA or stay. Alex wants to stay because of his loved ones being there. Ivan tells him they'll stay and he'll go back to his old school. Ivan calls a lawyer (Zabaleta) about finding out whether Perla is his child.

Zabaleta's Office: They meet and the lawyer tells him they need to order a DNA test.

Casa Mondragon: David arrives to tell JJ he will not accept the presidency. He doesn't want this because the audit he is obliged to order will expose JJ's frauds. He is refusing to cover up his father's wrongdoings,.which JJ expects him to. David finally leaves. JJ speculates on whether Antolin would be the one he can bribe. Typical.

Casa McGuire/Curiel: Ivan calls Lucia to tell him he will be staying and will be enrolling Alex in school. He tells her he misses her and knows she misses him too. She clearly has a hard time trying to put him off. Camilo enters the room and Lucia covers up that she's talking to Ivan. Camilo begs her to return to their room in the house, telling her she is the only woman he loves, etc.. She begs off because of her exam. He kisses her, but she doesn't kiss him back. In fact, she turns her face so he only catches the corner of her mouth. He knows he's lost her.

Carlota sees he's upset and tries to pep-talk him. She tells him to show the great love he has for Lucia and be the man he was before. Por favor, Carlota; you know this is inutile! She encourages him to accept the presidency of the association because the other ranchers would support him. They trust him. Get your self esteem back, man! That would help but not for this, as we know.

♫♫Por amor...♫♫

Capitulo 79: The Beginning of the End, starting with the stupidest criminals in history

Casa McGuire, the next morning: Alex wants to visit Lucia, but he's afraid of Maripaz. Poor kid! Ivan reminds him about the judge in L.A. But Alex says “But Los Angeles is far away.” Smart boy, but Ivan tells him not to worry. [But we should.]

Ag Ass Office; Camilo goes to see JJ to accept the presidency. He gives him the insurance payout check for his own losses; we bet this has to come out of his own pocket.

Rancho Socorro, mostly: Ivan and Lucia talk on the phone. Alex wants to visit her but he's afraid of Maripaz. Ivan is hoping Lucia will come to Casa McGuire once or twice a week to visit. She tells him she can't. She is resigned to her fate. She sent Carmen out of the room with the baby, but later feels the need to tell her not to mention the call. We know how that will end. Gerry arrives.

Town: Antolin and Camilo talk. Antolin congratulates him and tells him that many important people will try to curry favor with him. Camilo says he won't be like Mondragon.

Hacienda Curiel, kitchen: Carmen finds out that Lucrazia will be going out on Monday and calls Saul.

Hacienda Curiel, sitting room: Gerry and Lucia talk about her marital problem. She refuses to be as selfish as Maripaz, but he tells her to think of herself and her feelings. He knows she loves Ivan. She tells him that she has to be the one to tell Ivan and admits that Perlita is Ivan's child. Gerry asks the universe why it is so hard on her.

Commercial Break that leads with a promo for La Que No Podia Amar.

Casa McGuire Ivan and Tony discuss Ivan's next move. Tony doesn't approve of Ivan's intention to force a DNA test on the baby. He doesn't want more trouble. Ivan doesn't want Perla to grow up without her father. Tony reminds him that he is his father although they don't share DNA, and Ivan says that this is completely different. Tony agrees, but says that Camilo is Perla's father. Punto. Ivan won't give up, Tony calls him stubborn, and finally Ivan walks out while Tony relaxes with Bruno.

Hacienda Curiel, sitting room: Gerry and Lucia talk about Camilo and Ivan. Maripaz enters and avoids the discussion Gerry tells her they must have by walking out with a flip comment about how the kiss meant nothing to either of them. As she exits Gerry comments on her cynicism. Lucia tells him not to worry; she'll be out of the house soon and they'll finally have peace. Then she tells him she loves him.

Somewhere there is an anvil waiting to fall.

Hacienda Curiel, Lucia's room, night: Camilo, why can't you leave her alone when she needs you to? She's studying for her exam. He suggests they go out on Sunday en familia like a normal couple. New clothes, etc. She consents. But the kiss he starts doesn't happen. Lucia is still sad.

Angelina's House: Judith visits Esther and Angelina. The latter comments that Esther's idea of divorce is crazy. Judith isn't falling for this. She goes through the motions, but assures her mother that she and David support her decision to divorce JJ.

Alamos, street: Ivan and Alex run into Lucia and Camilo, who are pushing Perlita in her pram. Ivan sees the baby for the first time. It's a hugely awkward encounter between the adults. Alex comments several times on how pretty the baby is. Do 11-year-old boys really talk like that anywhere in the world?

Casa Lomieli: Antolin takes his leave of Carolina to go to D.F. to enquire about the cornea. He will only be gone a few days. Gerry makes a comment about God compensating him for what he does. We ponder the meaning of that statement.

Hacienda Curiel: Lucrazia yells for Gloria to accompany her to the market. Suspense music begins as Lucrazia drives. Two black SUVs enter, surrounding Lucrazia. Three masked men in long-sleeved white shirts come out and pull her out of her car at gunpoint. We can tell that one of them is El Gordo. Gerry arrives, gets out of his car, and gets shot trying to save Lucrazia. He falls into the dirt road clutching his gut. El Gordo throws the pistol on the ground and the kidnappers take off as Maripaz drives up. Lucrazia screams to call the police and an ambulance and Maripaz quickly pulls out her cell phone. We don't see what happened to Lucrazia's car.

Commercial Break

Road out of Alamos: Something has happened to Antolin's car. Someone has stopped to help.

Road back to Alamos: El Gordo calls Saul to admit he screwed up and gets chewed out for his pains. He shot someone and just then Maripaz showed up. He's afraid Maripaz will go to the police.

Road to Hacienda Curiel: Maripaz calls the house to tell Lucia what happened. She has called the police and the ambulance but they haven't gotten there yet. Lucia hangs up and quickly tells Carlota. Carmen is in the room and is impactada because she now understands what was going on.

Road out of Alamos: Judith sees Antolin and offers him a ride back. He declines; his car is being attended to and he's en route to Mexico.

Road to Hacienda Curiel: Gerry is taken into an ambulance. The police talk, then find the pistol. One picks it up with a handkerchief. He doesn't watch La ley y la orden where Briscoe and Curtis use a pen to do this.

Hospital: Lucrazia is impactada that Gerry tried to rescue her. The doctor comes in. Gerry is in serious condition. The bullet perforated his intestine and he's lost a lot of blood. He needs transfusions. The nurse arrives to escort the family in to be tested for type. Maripaz doesn't want to, claiming she's too thin. Carlota isn't letting her off the hook and forces her in.

Hotel: Saul chews out El Gordo as El Gordo noshes on some snack that's a product placement. Carmen calls Saul and calls him out on what this was all about. She's angry at her failure to see through it before and he makes it worse by reminding her that she was their accomplice. She's scared as she tends to a crying Perlita.

Hospital: Maripaz wants to leave and Carlota isn't pleased with that. Lucrazia can't get over that Gerry risked his life for her. Carlota suggests that perhaps Gerry never stopped loving her (Holà, Carlota; have you forgotten about Alicia? Your daughter hasn't.)

Commercial Break The exit shot with Gerry and Lucrazia is the anvil waiting to fall. And this is not a Road Runner cartoon.

Casa Lomieli: Camilo and Lucia arrive to tell Carolina what happened. Camilo tries to be optimistic, but Lucia thinks they should be prepared for the worst because the doctor wasn't hopeful.

Hacienda Curiel: Carmen asks Maripaz how her father is. She says that she doesn't know but thinks he will die. As she exits Carmen says “Dear God, don't permit this.”

Hospital: The doctor allows Lucrazia to see Gerry, whose heart is weak. Carlota whispers “Dios mio, salvalo.” The doctor tells Lucrazia that they have administered pain medication and antibiotics to fight the infection from the gunshot. The next few hours are very important. The music becomes ominous. Lucrazia is clearly upset as she tells Gerry to fight for his life. His daughters need him and... she always loved him despite her inability to show it. He says that he loved (querer) her but that it didn't work. He asks to see Alex and Carolina. Lucrazia suggests that it wouldn't be good to see Alex now but that Camilo and Lucia went to get Carolina.

Camilo and Lucia arrive with Carolina, who is next to go in. Lucia calls Ivan to explain. After filling Tony in he exits.

Commercial Break that leads with promos for Navidad S.A. and for Una Familia Con Suerte

Casa Mondragon: JJ refuses the coffee the maid has prepared for him, demands his tequila, and Judith enters. She tries to explain to him why Esther won't come back. He complains that he tried to raise them strictly and all his children have failed him. She lets him know that he's done her mother wrong in a variety of ways and he gets on her case for criticizing him. Finally, when she tells him not to drink he defiantly down a shot of tequila and tells her to leave him alone.

Judith, get the hell out of there before you become the Tita of this family. That is a tradition worthy of death.

Casa Galvan: Carmen tells Arcelia about the attempted kidnapping and the shooting. She's very upset.

Casa McGuire: Ivan explains the school situation to Alex, then sits him down to tell him about Gerry. He tells him there are times to be strong and brave, like when he went from living with Gerry to living with him. Now is another such time. Alex realizes that Gerry might die.

Hospital, Gerry's Room: This is not looking good.

Carolina: Why did you try to save Lucrezia? Why?
Gerry: Because she is the mother of my daughters.
Carolina: But she always despised you.
Gerry: Carolina, this is not the time for this.
Carolina: [???] I love you. You were my friend, the only one always at my side. You always worried about me.
Gerry: Now you have Antolin. He loves you very much. Marry him. It will bring you peace.
Carolina: You have to get better. Promise me.
Gerry: I need to ask you a favor.
Carolina: Whatever you want.
Gerry: It's for my daughters. Lucia needs help and love. Maripaz... isn't good. Advise her. Keep her from going from bad to worse. Help her, please.
Carolina: Don't ask this, Gerardo. You will get out of here. You'll help your daughters as you always meant to.
Gerry: No. I don't think I will get out of here. En el fondo, it's OK. I'm tired. It's hard to hear.

The bright light and flatline sound.

Carolina keeps repeating his name. The doctors rush in. As Carolina trips over her cane the doctors apply the defibrilator twice but it's no good.

Doctor: Lo siento, Señorita. Esta muerto.
