Abismo de pasion #85 7/10/12: In Which We Almost End With A Bang
Hacienda Arango
·
At Casa Arrango, Florencia catches Alfonsian on
her way out the door to Merida. Flo stops her might-be Mother-in-law to show
her the engagement ring on her left ring finger and to renounce her right to
the new car—she needs that money to help her dad. She has to pay lawyers and
the other blood sucking vermin that run the legal system. Alfonsina’s reply is not encouraging. She says
that since Flo’s daddy robbed her, if Flo wants money she can give Alfie a
grandchild. Then with a little flick at Flo’s barren belly Alfie stalks off.
Oh, the Black Widow is magnificent! As Sylvia said yesterday, we can only hope
that she lives long enough to really appreciate the suffering that will surely
come her way.
La Pro-ces-a-dor-a
·
Paolo, slick as snot, is sliming on a distraught
Sabrina on the telephone. Yes , he loves her. He reminds her that they have
agreed to be discreet about the news of the baby. Yes, her adores her. She
snivels. Yes, he has to gain the confidence of her parents. Will she see him
today? Oh, not likely. he speaks to the quaveringly silent office. He has a
very busy day at the pro-ces-a-dor-a. He hangs up the phone. Poor girl, Paolo
is a creep.
Tovar Casa
·
But, Begonia overhears her poor daughter and
says she knows she was talking to Paulo. Surprisingly, Begonia is better
disposed toward Paulo than she used to be thanks to her new bestie, Carmina,
who has said some pretty fine things about Paolo. She thinks they should invite
him to dinner. Really?
La Pro-ces-a-dor-a
·
Maru tells Gabino that ING is waiting for him in
his office. ING is pissed. She is losing it. She wants to know where are her
airline tickets. Gabino robbed her of her money. She has nothing. She starts to
scream. Gabino grabs her, put his hand over her mouth and starts sweet-talking
his wild-eyed little filly. He tells her they are going to go away and she will
have lots of money and THINGS…It looks a lot like some rough but consensual
adult activity is going to take place on Gabino’s desk but Ingrid is truly not
buying Gabino’s soothing sexual program. She breaks away and knocks a chair
over on her out…
·
…Where she runs into Don Lucio, breathlessly
spreading the news to Maru at the front desk of the processing plant and all of
La Ermita that a body has been found floating in the lagoon. It is a woman, she
un recognizable, she has been in the water at least a week. Ingrid looks
completely stricken.
Tovar Casa
·
The news spreads. Begonia takes a call and tells
Sabrina, who promptly passes out. Oopsie, Daddy El Doctor Gordo Tovar is called
and the news of Sabrina’s impending motherhood may not be a secret for long.
·
Doc Tovar heads to the morgue to help in the
identification of the body. Nasty, I say.
Casa Castañon
·
Delores steps into Casa Castigo and calls for
Elisa. The usual cheerless Don Augusto who tells her to stop shouting meets her.
Elisa is fine. She is not the woman who was found floating in the Laguna.
Town Morgue
·
Ingrid, dressed in loose, dun colored clothes,
is seated alone in a simple room that appears to be the waiting room of the
towm morgue. There is nothing on the walls, and only a couple of simple chairs
in the room. As Doc Tovar hurries into the room, Ingrid ,stops him and
introduces herself. They met before, she reminds him, when her daughter, Kenia,
had a bicycle accident. Yes, yes, her remembers. She is Gael’s mother. She
tells him Kenia has been missing for a week. She has to see the corpse to make
sure it isn’t her daughter. Doc Tovar introduces himself, at her service. Doc
Tovar tells her the corpse is quite decomposed, it has been in the water for
more than a week, it is virtually un-recognizable. The forensic pathologist
says the only distinguishing feature is a birthmark…Ingrid finished the sentence”
shaped like a moon”. She says she MUST see it. She will know if it is her
daughter. She is breaking my heart. I nominate Ms. Camil for an acting award
here. She is brilliant as the flawed, even bad Mother who is facing a hideous
fate. It is a brilliant performance.
·
Doc Tovar, perhaps in mercy, perhaps against his
better judgment, allows Ingrid to see the body. In a harrowing scene, the sheet
is lifted back from the body and Ingrid in punished in this one scene for all
the wrong she ever did to either of her children. This may be punishment for
this and several other lives IMHO. There could be no worse hell.
Casa Castigo
·
Elisa comes back in the house to a delighted
Delores.. She is still happy that Elisa is OK (not dead and floating in the
lagoon) and wants to here how things went with Damian, whom she refers to as
DamiaM. She asks when the big boda will be and Elisa replies, “Never”. When
Elisa went to Hacienda Arango to talk to Damian she found him in bed, if no in
flagrante with Flo. I’ve gotta admit, I
would be pithed too. Then, to add insult to injury, on the way out the door,
she got the news about her mother’s Cielo Abierto lands being to that jerk
GABINO MENDOZA. She is NOT in a good mood. I always think Boyer is at her most believable
when she is bitchy.
Pro-ces-a-dor-a
·
Damian is once again back at the helm of the
procesadora. Maru is listening to this as he seriously shuffles papers around
his desk.
·
Really, guys, are we supposed to care? The real
La Anita is a very big company and they would never tolerate this piddle
farting round with either money or senior management. One doesn’t threaten the
revenue stream of senior management in family-owned companies any more than
with companies responsible to outside shareholders. Why? Because they are
family matriarch/patriarch type folks who have lawyers tied to their hip
pockets and they will cut you off without a dime if you threaten the goose that
laid the golden egg. Anyway, DamiaM says, he just doesn’t understand. While he
was throwing his hissy hit and NOT running the company (like he would be
allowed to do that)
·
GWEEEEDO let all this bad stuff take place? How
can that be? He KNOWS GWEEEEDO? Really dude?
Casa Arango
·
Flo dives into a pool. She has a lovely figure
and the tiniest waist ever. I think I spied a cell pone on the side of the
pool. Enrique is watching her and comes
over to give her news about her Poppa but she bursts his bubble by asking him
why he is there? He can’t be seen at Casa Arango! Enrique looks a bit confused,
as well he might, having just risked his life savings and perhaps his health
for Flo as Florencia babbles on about her reconciliation with DamiaM, and show
his the engagement ring and how all is now right with the world. She will, of
course, pay Quique back for helping out her Dad…Henrique looks gob smacked, as
well he should.
A Prison in Merida,
Where Guido is wearing an unflattering shade of Khaki—too green, I think
·
Really, nothing of import happens in this scene.
The Black Widow, Alfonsian comes to visit Guido in his more permanent home, the
nastier jail, he stares at her sullenly and denies stealing from her, she tells
him to fess up, so he doesn’t make an untoward scandal at DamiaM ‘and Flo’s
upcoming nuptial’s. Yes, they are re-engaged. Guido is sorry he ever had
feelings for Alfie and Alfie says the only man for whom she has ever had
feelings has been dead lo these many years. W_H_A_T_E_V_E_R_.
Cielo Abierto Fields
and the Habanero Greenhouse
·
Don Augusto Cat Food and Elisa meet on her
mother’s lands. Happy habanero peppers are growing haphazardly all around.
Elisa tells her father that there is no way he is selling the Cielo Abierto
growing fields to GABINO MENDOZA. Augusto repeats for the zillionth time, he
lost his contract with the la Maria procesadora. Augusto is just happy working
with his Princesa over at the now restored greenhouses. They walk away, arms
around each other, the very picture of father/daughter affection.
·
But, if you were to look up into the sky, you
would see that it is not open and clear at all. It is covered with black
cumuli-nimbus clouds bearing dozens of tiny iron anvils poised to fall on the
father daughter pair.
·
Soon Elisa and Augusto walk around the
greenhouses. The peppers are setting fruit at an astonishing pace. All thanks
to Gael, Papa’s workers, Damian, Elisa and Don Lucio. It’s a miracle. Now Elisa
offers her vision…habaneros are much more than just a CONDIMENT. Habaneros can
be used in cleaning products, health supplements, and medical supplies. Elisa
wants to build an habanero EMPIRE to rival and outdo Alfonsina’s. She wants her
own procesadora.
·
See what happens when you think big, Elisa. Hire
Quique. He can probably help you engineer something. Now all you need is CASH,
sister. Hmmmm. Do you have good anvil insurance????
Doc Tovar’s Office
·
Gael comes to visit Paloma at Doc Tovar’s
office. She is crying.. She won’t listen to Gael. She takes responsibility for
the situation for pushing the relationship. They fight about Elisa. She won’t
let him tell her that Elisa and Damian are not siblings after all. She tells
him she doesn’t want to see Gael as a novio or as a friend. She just wants him
to leave. He looks a bit stricken.
Padre Lupe’s Church
·
A somewhat disheveled looking Carmina comes
calling on Padre Lupe at the Church door. Whatever she’s selling, he ain’t
buying. He stands, his arms folded across his solar plexus with Jesus and the cross and a few parishioners all standing
protectively in the background for good measure. He tells her that her presence
without repentance at God’s house is blasphemy. She says she needs help. “He
says you need help”, as he walks toward her? Watch out Padre! I want to scream.
Padre tells her that the chickens have come to roost.
·
Carmina says she needs Padre’s help with
Augusto. No go, Carmina, Padre tells her that there is a person who knows all
the truth, and that the truth, whether
sooner or later, will see the light. Carmina doesn’t believe it. When she puts
her hand on his arm, he looks down on her hand like it belongs to a tarantula,
not a brown recluse. The bells call him to do service and he closes the double
doors in her face. She rolls her eyes at him and walks away.
More (OTT nauseating)
Father/Daughter Time in the Giant Greenhouses
·
OK, now they are really overdoing it. Augusto,
is all over Elisa wondering why his daughter hasn’t told Damian about their
real (lack of ) a relationship. She lies and says she hasn’t had time. He (of
all people) starts to give her advice about her love life. She says this
delights her. He says it is all part of their newfound perfect relationship as
real father and daughter. There are so many things wrong with this scene I
cannot begin to enumerate them. I haven’t enough fingers, toes or hairs on my
red head.
·
Where was the love, Augusto? Where was the love
for 15-some years of this damaged young woman’s life when you thought she was
not your biological offspring? This latest act in your ever-changing repertoire
of behavior does not make you redeemed in my eyes. However, I suppose some will say that your
most recent behavior means that you are demonstrating that you are redeemable.
That is TRUE, and I will believe in his behavior change when he demonstrate
about 15 years of consistent kindness, fairness and reasonable behavior to
others, especially his daughter
By the pool at
Hacienda Arango
·
Freeloaders, grifters and dirtbags Paolo and
Florencia sit by the pool and plot their next moves. They are going to steal
poor stupid Sabrina’s baby to give it to the Black Widow??? That is diabolical.
·
I am ashamed of myself. I had such hopes for
Florencia. I can’t believe I once rooted for Flo to take down the Spider Woman.
Pah! Flo is not in her league. SHE IS NOT WORTHY. She could not kiss the Black
widow’s shiny black boots or her red patent belt!
·
Karen and the Capon and I are so over you, Flo. We will help your
Dad, but you, you , are just an ordinary lazy wasp-waisted hymenoptera with one sting, trying to steal a piece of fresh meat
from Alfie’s web. She has you caught, sister, she will toy with you and she
will eat you alive. I am usually loyal, Flo, but no matter how desperate you
are you DO NOT steal other people’s children.
In Ingrid’s Private
Hell
·
In some little coffee shop in La Ermita, Edmundo
Tovar, a man of great compassion and kindness, is trying to do the impossible.
He is trying to comfort a mother who has just lost her child. Ingrid was a bad
mother, selfish, manipulative and always out for herself, but she raised Kenia
and to have to I.D the decomposing body of your only daughter on a cold morgue
slab is the worst nightmare of even the least-good mother.
·
Ingrid says she has no one in the pueblo. Edmund
remembers that she has a son. Yes, she says. After making the mistake of
abandoning him on the church steps when he was an infant, she came back to get
to know him (sort of). Some mistakes are too big to fix. He hates her and Kenia
is dead. But Gael is a grand young man, says Edmundo.
·
Edmundo is doing his best to comfort Ingrid with
an embrace when in walks Begonia and a friend. Before she can make too much of
a scene—she does say that Ingrid is the mother of the girl who tried to steal a
married man—Edmundo jumps up, and explains who Ingrid is and that her daughter
is the one who was found in the Laguna.
·
Ingrid stumbles home to the Blue Hose of Shame. Gabino
is grumbling when she wanders in announcing that her daughter is dead. Gabino
is shocked. Ingrid is hysterical as she blames Carmina for killing Kenia. She
wants to kill Carmina herself.
Casa Castigo
·
Carmina is still there, at the quinta, looking
depressed. Augusto comes in and wants to
know why she is there. He is reverting to his usual nasty, nasty, self. Why is
she there? Did he not tell her to get out of the house by the end of the day?
Out of the house? Out of his life? Just get out, snarls Augusto and he starts
to walk away. Augusto! Carmina calls. We hear the sound of a shotgun shell
being placed in the chamber. You are not the only one who is macho! Carmina
announces! She places the shotgun under her chin in what looks to be a most
efficient manner.
·
Oh, my. Your recapper thinks that although Carmina
is the Queen of all Drama Queens and is surely bluffing, this is really nothing
to bluff about. Death is no laughing matter. And suicide in front of a loved
(or hated) one is the second most hostile act you can take against another
person. The first is murdering the person himself or herself. Carmina is very, very mad at Augusto for
throwing her out and rejecting her. She
will NOT be able to tolerate this. One of them may not make it through this
scene.
·
I have no avances, my friends. I turn you over
to the capable hands of our dear Marta Miercoles, who will steer the good ship
Passion Pitt forward through the coming storm. I am happy to pass off the helm.
EJ shivers.

Refugio Para el Amor #64-65 Tue 7/10/12 Paz Makes New Threats, While Max Makes Good on His Old Ones; By Unanimous Vote, Rod Wins Idiot of the Year; Luci Wants the Big D
For some reason a few
short scenes in the first hour were cut from the U.S. tv version. I still
included them in the recap. The scene of Rod crying into the wedding dress
should have been kept, for example. I think Uni did this to allow for a long
sneak peek at Por Ella Soy Eva.
Rod leaves the church after refusing to have a long talk
with Padre Honesto about Luci, and looks around to see if Luci might still be about.
He gets in his car and starts having visions of him and Luci running down the
church steps in their wedding clothes and happily kissing. A guard snaps him
out of his fantasy and asks if he’s ok. Rod finally drives off. In a bus, Luci
looks at her wedding ring and remembers the angry words she and Rod exchanged
in the Padre’s office.
Rosa asks Pato if he’s more tranquil now that he’s spoken to
Rod and Luci. Yep. Speaking to Luci always does him good. Her caring and
tenderness have been key to his recuperation. Max gives Rosa an “I told you so”
look.
Aldo is still trying to convince nervous Lorenzo that he’s
got the Lastra situation under control. (Yeah, I wouldn’t be so convinced
either.) He doesn’t take it all seriously until Lorenzo mentions that this has
caused problems between Luci and Rod when his aunt told Rod that Lorenzo is a
thief. Aldo looks mortified, and decides to call Ivan then and there. Ivan is
at that moment in the park, walking his little black lap dog. LOL! He has no
intention of doing Aldo any favors when Aldo explains the money was for him and
Lorenzo didn’t steal if for himself. He asks him to drop the charges against
his “brother.” Ivan doesn’t give a rat’s
patoot. Aldo needs to speak to Lastra. In any case, Lorenzo is the one who
stole the money, and it’s Lorenzo who has to pay for it. He hangs up on Aldo
but Aldo pretends that the conversation is still going. He does admit that Ivan
refused. Lorenzo and Fabian freak, but Aldo tells them he still has a card up
his sleeve. If Lastra won’t listen, then he’ll speak to the big boss (el mero mero). Lorenzo
asks if he knows him. Aldo says he and the owner are like family. Lorenzo and
Fabian look incredulous.
Lastra has invited Don Aquiles to meet. He asks if Don A has
seen Luci yet. Of course! Now that they’re alone, Don Aquiles wants to know
what that pair of broads (viajas) have against his Lucianita. Lastra says it’s
all about money (intereses). Gala wants Rod back because he’s from one of the
wealthiest (acaudalada) families in Mexico. Don Aquiles doesn’t give a damn.
He’s the wealthiest man in San Francisco el Alto! Lastra just smiles and
doesn’t argue the point. He only came to this big city to bring his little dove
back to Het Het. All the rest, he doesn’t care about. They can work it out
amongst themselves. Lastra proposes that they join forces to try to get more
money out of Julie and Gala. Aquiles isn’t interested in this kind of dirty
business, and frankly he doesn’t like that pair of old broads. Lastra doesn’t
think they need to like them to squeeze money out of them. Aquiles tells him to
do what he wants, but do it on his own. He leaves Lastra mighty confused.
Luci comes back to Estella’s and tells Estella and Marianita
that she spoke to the Padre and now feels better. But talking to him made her
realize how much her life has changed in such a short time. If she could move
ahead before, with all that had happened to her, then she can survive this!
Estella tells her that this is nothing more than a lovers’ quarrel. Luci
disagrees. She needs to end things definitively with Rod. “I’m going to divorce
him.” Mati walks in just as Luci says this.
Paz and Magda arrive at Don Serapio’s with Ariche. Ariche
reports his conversation with Rod. Meanwhile, Mati begs Luci not to divorce Rod
and to, say it with me now,…fight for her love! (lucha por tu amor) Don’t do it
for Rod, or even for Patricio. She should do it for herself. “You love him and
he loves you.” Luci shakes her head. The phone rings and Luci answers her
mama’s call. She’s better at hiding her sadness this time. She mentions that
Mati is there and Paz latches on to this news. She tells Luci to put Mati on
the phone, after asking Magda, Theo and Ariche to clear the room. Mati looks
nervous, as she should.
P: Matilde? This is Paz speaking. Paz Jacinto, the wife of
Galdino the gardener. Do you remember me?
(Mati nearly faints and has to hold on to something. In the background
Luci and Estella look on in concern.) I’m the woman who La Señora
Rosalena gifted the baby, Luciana. Matilde? Hello!
M: Yes Paz. I’m here.
P: You remember me Matilde?
M: Of course I do Paz. I remember as if I were looking at you now.
P: And I you. ALL of you. I know from my Luci that that woman Sra. Rosa doesn’t
like her. Which doesn’t surprise me because she never liked her, even when she
was a newborn baby. So what else could you expect now that she’s a grown woman.
Mati looks over at Luci nervously, but tries to keep her end
of the conversation neutral so that Luci doesn’t catch on.
M: What can I say?
P: You’re a good person Mati. I give my Luci over to your care. (encargar) I
don’t want that woman to do more harm to my daughter, you understand? Because
Luci is MY daughter. I hope that woman doesn’t forget that. And if she does
forget, then YOU remind her!
M: Don’t worry Paz. Since I met Luci, I’ve had a great affection for her and
have taken care of her. And I’ll keep doing so. I promise. (Hmm…Frankly, I
think Mati has done a lousy job of protecting Luci from Rosa and will continue
to be lousy at it. No one comes before her niña Rosa.)
P: I’m putting my trust in you Matilde.
Paz then asks her if she knows when they are postponing the
wedding to. Mati looks at Luci again and says she doesn’t know. Paz again asks
her to take care of her niña. “I hope La Sra. Rosa doesn’t go against her, because if
she hurts her, the next day I will be there to confront her and tell the whole
truth!!” Mati looks panicked.
In Berlin, Germany, Claudio tells his picture of Aurora that
he’s been thinking of Luci all day and doesn’t know why. He asks Aurora to look
after/keep vigil for (velar) Luci, as she is doing for him—as if Luci were
their daughter. Lic. Barrera calls and they update each other. Claudio’s
appointment with the bankers, to examine the accounts he and Max opened when
they first founded their company, has been moved until tomorrow. He hopes to
discover that Max is the real culprit behind the fraud that put him in jail.
They have clues about a supposed construction company that constructed a marina
in the Caribbean, where millions of the stolen money was invested. Claudio is
determined to keep going until he clears his name. He tells Barrera that Luci
has been in his thoughts all day and wonders if Barrera has spoken to her or
heard anything. He then asks Barrera to go look for Luci and tell her he’ll be
back in a few days. In the meantime, Barrera is to be at her at her beck and
call. Help her in anything she needs.
Mati ends the call with Paz on an upbeat note, saying she’ll
take care of Luci and to not worry. She passes the phone to Luci, who looks at
it with dread. But she gets let off the hook pretty easily. Paz just says
goodbye and says she feels better now that she’s spoken with Mati. Ariche runs
in, jumping up and down to speak to Luci. He wants to know if she’s with Rod.
Is he working? He tells her about speaking with Rod earlier, and asks her if
she’s coming to get them in the plane with Rod. This makes Luci start crying
all over again.
Aldo comes into Rod’s office looking shame-faced. It’s about
Lorenzo, his “brother.” Rod says he already knows about the money Lorenzo stole
and then borrowed from Aldo through Connie. Aldo sets him straight and admits
that the money was money he (Aldo) lost gambling, and he asked Lorenzo for the
favor. Rod is p*ssed. He grabs Aldo by the lapels and shakes him. “When are you
going to grow up Aldo? When are you going to stop acting like an idiot?!” Aldo
says he’s already realized his mistake. “It’s always the same with you. You act
before thinking! Now you’ve gotten Lorenzo into really serious problems.” Rod goes on about how the whole world is
judging Luci’s brother badly, thinking he’s a thief. (Kind of like how Rod is
now judging Luci badly, huh? Please listen to yourself Rod.) And it was all
Aldo’s fault. “It’s not fair Aldo!” Aldo hangs his head in shame.
Connie and Oscar are actually lunching with Julie, Gala and
her posse. Oscar says he can’t believe Rod and Luci have a serious enough
problem to cause a break-up. The posse informs them that it’s so serious that
there will now be no wedding. “Oh, didn’t you know Connie?” Connie tells Julie
coldly that she did not know. But how can she know things that she neither saw
nor heard? “Your mother refuses to tell me exactly what happened in the
library, so why don’t you tell me Gala.” Gala sticks to her innocent act and
claims she had nada to do with it. Connie should speak to Rosa, because she’s
the one who invited them all to the house. When Rosa gets back from Boston,
Connie should ask her. Connie says she will, but Rosa did say one thing before
she left—that they “unmasked” Luci. Now, what did she mean by that? Everyone
keeps mum.
Luci tells Vio that she wishes she had never come to D.F.
and had stayed in her pueblo with her mom and Ariche. And with Don Aquiles, who
wouldn’t leave her in peace, too? Vio thinks this is just a temporary setback, and
they shouldn’t let the bastards keep them down. She heads off to work, but
doesn’t want to leave Luci alone. Luci is more worried about Vio. Is she sure
Don A. didn’t recognize her? Vio says, no way, not with her costume. Plus she
left the pueblo so long ago that he probably wouldn’t recognize her anyway. Vio
then has an epiphany. She thinks those broads probably found Don Aquiles and
brought him to D.F. to bug Luci. Luci can’t believe they would resort to that.
Anyway, Vio had already seen Don Aquiles around Inferno last time he was in
town. Although Lorenzo has no job right now, Luci’s actually more at ease now
that he doesn’t work at Inferno. She didn’t like him being near Lastra. Vio is
sure he’ll find something else soon. She knew sooner or later that casino would
bring him troubles.
This scene was cut:
Outside, Lorenzo and Fabian are drinking brews to drown their sorrows. Back
when they were in the pueblo, they thought coming to the big city was the solution
to all their problems. But they’ve had nothing but problems since they came. Lorenzo had hopes of buying his mom a new
house. Fabian points out that they can’t move ahead here without more
education. Lorenzo says he promised his mom and Don Serapio that he would
finish high school (la prepa), but he hasn’t even done that. Vio and Serena
come down the stairs ready for work. Fabian will walk them to work, but Vio
wants Lorenzo to stay and watch over Luci, since Don Aquiles has already come sniffing
around her.
This scene was cut:
Don Aquiles lounges in his hotel room wearing his black satin robe, with purple
trim, a black cowboy hat, and smoking a cigar. He calls Copio to get the update
on Het Het happenings. Copio reports that Luchita is dying for him and he stole
her heart. When he gets back, he doesn’t want to see Luchita hanging around.
He’s not sure if his Palomita will be coming back with him, but tonight he’s
going to party like it’s 1999 in el Inferno, where there’s a chula who sings
like an angel. “An angel, in hell?” Copio is mighty confused. (Your recapper
hopes Don A doesn’t come on to Vio too strong, since we suspect he’s her papa.
Gross!)
This scene was cut and
really should not have been: Rod’s apartment security calls up to say
there’s a package that is being delivered for his wife Luci. The delivery guy
hands Rod a white box with a white bow. He opens the box and finds the wedding
dress. The card says, “May your happiness be eternal.” Rod takes the dress out,
cradles it, and starts crying. He remembers that happy day in front of the
bridal shop and Luci’s kisses. H&M’s Operation Make Rod Feel Like Crap, has
had its first success.
The first part of this
scene, when Luci was on her own, was cut: Luci is also on her couch
thinking about Rod. “Why? Why did you let them put an end to our love so easily
Rodrigo?” Lorenzo comes in and says he doesn’t like to see her cry, which
actually makes her start crying. She says she’s not going to cry anymore. He
says he also feels sad about everything that’s happened. He feels guilty. He
lays his hand on her back. Luci tells him that what happened at the casino has
nothing to do with her breakup with Rod. He puts his head on her shoulder and
says that their lives have changed so much since their papa died. Their papa
made them so happy, with so little. He had such a huge heart. Lorenzo says he’s
full of remorse (remordimiento). He’s failed her so many times. He was supposed
to come here to lighten her load, but instead he’s making it heavier. Luci embraces
him and says that their father understands that they are fighting to get ahead
and she loves him lots.
Paz prays to the Virgin and begs her to care for her
children, while she can’t. She’s putting them in her hands.
Aldo comes to see Lastra in his office, with Vicky on his
arm. He tries to clear up the Lorenzo issue and takes the blame. Lorenzo was
doing him a favor and the money was returned. Lastra won’t be swayed. “Lorenzo
is a thief and I’m going to throw him in jail!” Aldo gets ticked and says that
there is something Lastra doesn’t understand. He asks how he thinks the big
boss will feel when he finds out Lastra threw Luci’s brother in jail (el bote)?
He knows who Aldo is speaking about, right? He better consult his boss before
he does anything.
Oscar and Connie have wine at the big house and talk about
the b/witches. He is amazed at the attitude of those women. Don’t they have
anything better to do than bother poor Luci? What has she done to them? Her
only sin is that Rod fell in love with her. What do they want to do? Destroy
her? Connie says that Rosa doesn’t seem
to realize the damage she is doing to her kids. These are the kinds of things
that children never forgive. In the moment when Rod finally confronts Rosa, she
will cry tears of blood.
Marcos and Gabriel are at Rod’s place. He looks miserable
and is still looking at the wedding dress. Marcos asks what he’s going to do
next. Rod doesn’t know. Gabriel says if he were Rod, he would go speak to Luci.
He can’t end things with her like this. It’s not Rod’s style—he’s always
confronted his problems head on. Marcos agrees with Gabriel. Just like how the
problem with Luci’s brother had a valid explanation, there are likely explanations
for the other things too. Stupid Rod isn’t sure. Gabriel tells him that he’s as
in love with Luci as she is with him.
Lastra has called Max, who reminds him to NEVER to call him.
Lastra says it’s urgent. He says Aldo has continued to come to Inferno and has
put his nose where it doesn’t belong. He’s even gotten involved with a matter
Lastra has every right to deal with, and told him he would go over his head to
Max. And he didn’t even come alone. He came with that girl he always come to
the club with—Vicky. Max is not a happy camper to hear that news.
The next morning, Rod is at the private airport, ready to
fly to Boston. H&M are having breakfast with Connie at the big house and
telling her about Operation Make Rod Feel Like Crap. They want to open his
eyes. They used Rod’s credit card, of course, to pay for the dress. Ha! Hannah
rushes off to her Mandarin Chinese exam. Frigida lurks around the breakfast
table trying to get more gossip, but Connie shoos her away.
In Pato’s hospital room, Rod wishes him well, but Pato just
wants to know where Luci is. He thought Max’s friend at the embassy was able to
get travel documents for her. Rod says they had lots to do, and they weren’t
able to finish all the requirements for the travel docs. But Luci sends him kisses,
hugs and much love. They all kiss Pato farewell when the orderlies come for
him. Once Pato is out of earshot, Max demands to know from Rod what is really
going on between him and Luci, since he knows all the travel documents for Luci
were put in order. Rosa walks off, but Max can already tell she had something
to do with it. He gives both her and Rod the stink eye.
Luci comes to see Lic. Barrera. He says that she and Claudio
must have a psychic connection since he was just asking about Luci last night
and was thinking about her. How can he help her?
L: I want to divorce Rodrigo Torreslanda.
B: Aren’t you about to get married in the Church?!
L: Not anymore. I want to know how long a divorce will take.
Barrera says that depends. If both parties are in agreement,
then the process can begin in just a few days. “So soon?” In a case like
theirs, since there are no kids, it’s much easier. As long as they aren’t
fighting over communal property and such. “Nope. None of that.” Without all of
these complications, the process is almost immediate. Luci looks sad but
resigned.
Max continues to grill Rod. His contact at the embassy says
everything was all set, but Rod and Luci never contacted them. “What’s
happening Rod?” Rod says he and Luci are angry at each other. Max thinks it’s
just a typical pre-nuptial argument, which is normal. Rosa jumps in and says
they have broken up, for good. She supposes. Rod gives her an angry look and
walks out of the room. Rosa looks satisfied with herself. Max wants to know
what Rosa knows about it. She doesn’t have to explain anything. The only thing
that happened is that Rod found out how indecent that girl is and ended their
relationship. It’s just that men can never see the evidence right in front of
their eyes. (I really want to slap her right now.) Max is not fooled. “What did
you have to do with all of this Rosalena?” Rosa plays the wounded victim. Max
is always criticizing her. He leaves the room knowing this is going nowhere.
She pulls out her rosary and starts praying.
Luci asks Barrera if the divorce process would be lengthened
if one of the parties opposes the divorce. Yes. Luci wants to know the next
steps. Barrera has to schedule an appointment with her so that he can interview
her about all the details of her relationship with Rod and the reasons for the
divorce. This will help him write the request/suit (demanda) for divorce. Then
it will be sent to Rod. If they both agree to the reasons and terms of the
divorce, then they will both sign to begin the proceedings. They will then be
brought back to the judge, and if they both still want the divorce, they and
the judge will sign the final divorce decree. “As easy as that?” (LOL! I think
our Luci doesn’t want that divorce as much as she says she does.) “Yep. That
easy, Luci. The hardest part is making the decision to do it.” He asks her to
come back that afternoon, because Claudio will want to speak to her personally.
Rod absentmindedly stirs his coffee in the hospital waiting
room. Max comes and sits across from him and gives him a worried look. Rod half
snaps out of it and asks Max if he wants a coffee. Max decides to go get it
himself. Rod then fantasizes that Luci
is sitting across from him. He smiles, she smiles back at him and comes over to
him. She strokes his face. He offers her a sip of his coffee, then strokes her
hand as she gives him back the cup. His fantasy ends as Max walks back to the
waiting room. He sits next to Rod and says he’s here to listen. Was the fight
that bad? “I’m not getting married anymore papa.” “You’re getting married in
two days!” “Luci isn’t the woman she made us believe she is. She lied! She hid
things. Things that may not be that bad; they may have an explanation. But the
fact that she hid them from me, papa, hurts me. It infuriates me!” Max says
that Luci must have had her reasons. Rod refuses to accept this. There is NO
reason! Max tells him to think about things calmly and not to let anger carry
him away. Rod says his ire and disillusionment has led him to end with Luci. “Think
about it son. Luci is a great woman.” Rod points out that Max is speaking about
her as if he knows her. “Luci is the woman who could truly make you happy. And
happiness is something very few find, son.” He pats Rod on the shoulder and
leaves him with that thought.
Hannah calls Rosa, interrupting her prayers, for an update
on Pato. He’s still in surgery so there’s no news. Boris tries to assure Hannah
that all will be well. Lula hears the tail end of the conversation and gives
her best wishes to Hannah for Pato. For the first time in a long time, Lula
doesn’t act like a b/witch in training. She apologizes for her behavior at
Boris’ party; she wants to be friends again.
Max walks into Pato’s room, looking ready for a showdown
with Rosa. He asks her if she was behind Rod and Luci’s breakup. Rosa
immediately gets on the defensive. She says what’s important right now is,
Pato, their son! (She uses this excuse only when it’s convenient to her.) Rosa
walks out of the room, leaving an extremely frustrated Max.
In Het Het, Paz has told Magda her warning to Mati. Magda
understands that Paz is just protecting her kids. Paz knows Mati is a generous
woman who has cared for her Luci, but she told her what she did so that she would
go tell her patrona. It wasn’t *really* a threat (amenaza), but she sure as
heck will take the first bus to D.F. if needed. Magda says it won’t be needed.
After all, Luci has Rod by her side. And with a muchacho like that by her, no
one can mess with her. (Ha!) Paz thinks maybe they should just go to D.F. now. Magda
says they’re going in a few days anyway, but Paz means tomorrow.
Luci prays to the Virgin to care for Pato during his
surgery. She’s just bought some
gorditas
for everyone, and Fabian and Lorenzo come home just in time to sit down and dig
in. They want to know why she’s keeping that magazine. Luci says she’s keeping
it to remind her why Rod left her, and each time she wants to run after him, it
will help her suppress the urge. Fabian
can’t understand why she wouldn’t want to go make up with Rod, since he’s her
husband after all. Why wait for him to call? Go find him! (Fabian obviously has
no pride.) Luci is NOT going looking for him, and he can wait as long as he
wants. Vio wakes up in time to share the gorditas and to tell them what
happened when she saw Marcial at the club the evening before. She didn’t give
him enough time to tell her any excuses, anyway, she doesn’t believe him. Luci
points out that’s like Rod with her; he refuses to believe her. She announces
to the group that she’s decided to go back to the pueblo. She has no reason to
stay. Certainly not to be near Rod. She’s going to get out of this bad
situation, and neither Rod nor anyone else is going to hold her back.
Gala meets with her magazine team and decides to do a rerun
of the “hot clubs” edition of the magazine, with an even greater distribution.
She wants it EVERYWHERE. Her team isn’t sure about this. Although it was a
popular edition, this rerun will likely make them lose money. Gala doesn’t
care. She just wants them to do it. “It’s an investment.” (inversion)
Frigida calls Gala and tells her she’s got a big, juicy
piece of gossip for her. It’s about that chacha Luci, that she heard straight
from the mouth of Rosa. She’ll bring her big black bag to their meeting so that
Gala can fill it with pesos.
Vicky is giving Connie a hand massage after her manicure.
Connie assumes Vicky is no longer dating her sugar daddy, since she is still
dating her son Aldo. Vicky doesn’t really answer the question about her sugar
daddy, but says she and Aldo just go out as friends. Connie tells her to think
about what she’s doing. She could cause problems for both Aldo and her father,
since her BIL Max is so down on Aldo dating an employee’s daughter. Vicky says
she and Aldo are just friends, and she’s not an employee of the company. Connie
says she totally gets that, but she doesn’t think Max thinks the same way. In addition,
going out with Aldo could get her in trouble with her sugar daddy. Older men
don’t like betrayal. They think they own the people around them. If this man
finds out she’s dating Aldo and him at the same time, he might hurt her or her
dad, or even Aldo. “What you’re doing Vicky, is not good.”
The doctor comes to the waiting room to tell Max, Rosa and
Rod that the surgery was a success. Max wants to know the diagnosis. The doc
gets technical, but the gist is that they reconstructed some discs in his spinal
column. Pato will regain some movement in his upper body (hands, arms, and
shoulders), including now being able to support and move his neck and head.
All the guys at the office wonder how the surgery has gone,
but they’ve had no news yet. Gabriel and Marcos are really worried about Rod,
who’s in bad shape about Luci. Oscar thinks it’s ridiculous that Rod is going
to end his relationship with Luci over some gossip. The other guys agree. They
would never let a woman like Luci go over something like that. The vote is
unanimous. Rod is an IDIOT. Oscar receives the good news via text about Pato’s
surgery.
Frigida clutches her bag in front of her coffee during her
meeting with Gala. She’s going to tell her a HUGE secret that could cost her
her job. Gala doesn’t look convinced. It’s
a secret Rosa has had a ton of years. Frigida continues her tale. She heard the
secret during a loud argument between Rosa and Max and Claudio Linares’ name
was prominently mentioned. Gala still doesn’t see the importance, since Max and
Rosa always have a bee in their bonnet about Linares. Everyone knows that! “Well,
what they don’t know is that Luci and Rod could be HALF SIBLINGS.” Gala nearly
chokes on her coffee, but then she recovers pretty quickly, already
assimilating this info into her next evil plan.
Pato is barely coming to from the anesthesia and the first
word on his lips in his half conscious state is, Luciana. Rod is in the room
and hears. He tells Pato he came out of the operation in good shape and did
well. Pato can still only ask for Luci. Rod seems to be surprised by how deep
his brother’s love for Luci goes.
Luci goes back to Claudio’s/Barerrera’s office with Vio to
be there for Claudio’s call. Barerra immediately puts Claudio on the phone with
Luci. He is sure she must be in the midst of happy wedding planning. Luci says
she is no longer getting married—it’s a problem with Rod and she wants a
divorce. Claudio is immediately livid. “What did Rodrigo Torreslanda do to you?!”
He knows it must have been serious for her to make this decision. Luci doesn’t
want to say on the phone. Claudio feels bad that he’s away, just when she needs
him. Luci tries to make him feel better by saying Barrera is helping her in
everything she needs. Claudio knows she loves Rod. Yep. She loves him with her
whole being, but she’s still going to divorce him. “I love him, but he and I
can’t be together.” Claudio reminds her that he was never in agreement with her
marrying a Torreslanda, but if she really loves him, she should think about
making a painful decision like a divorce very carefully. Luci agrees and asks
when he’s coming back. He had planned to be away at least another week, but now he’s going to come back earlier to be with her. He tells her sweetly not
to worry about anything, but when he hangs up he’s all fury again. “I knew that
they were going to hurt you Luciana. The son is just like the father.”
Pato is a bit more awake now, but still feels out of it. Rod
says they will have to wait a while before they are able to take him back home.
Pato asks if Rod told Luci about the success of the operation. Rod lies and
says he did, and Luci sent a hug. Pato immediately falls asleep again.
Gala wants Frigida to get all the facts straight. Frigida
says she heard it loud and clear. Rosa had something going with Claudio. Max
told her that she couldn’t keep going on with this obsession that Luci and Rod
are half sibs, because it was going to cause a tragedy. Then Rosa was very
clear about Frigida keeping her mouth shut about what she’d heard. "Isn’t it true
that this is really valuable info and is worth a lot?” Gala pulls out the
checkbook and tells Frigida that she can’t share this bombshell with anyone else. Frgida
doesn’t look pleased by the check amount.
Luci and Vio bid Barerra farewell. Luci is to come back
tomorrow for the interview to tell Barrera everything about her relationship
with Rod. Luci looks hesitant about doing this but agrees.
Gala runs straight to Julie with the gossip from Frigida.
Like any good game of telephone, the story gets more salacious with each
telling. “Rosa had a thing going with Claudio Linares.” And Luci, la domestica
(drink!) is involved. Rod and Luci could be half siblings. She finishes the tale
Frigida gave her. Julie is salivating knowing that saintly Rosa has a deep dark
secret. This explains Rosa’s immediate hate for Luci. But this tale of them
being half sibs doesn’t make sense, because Max would have never allowed them
to marry. Julie knows Rosa wouldn’t have allowed this either. Gala backtracks.
Then they can’t be half sibs. But what relationship does that domestica (drink!)
have with Claudio, Rosa, Max and Rod? Julie is eager to solve this puzzle
(rompecabezas). Gala is sure Rod is clueless (as he is with many things), and
this could be another good weapon in keeping him separated from the domestica
(drink!). Julie thinks Gala should call
Rod to get an update on Pato’s surgery, but Gala is still playing it cool.
Julie can’t believe they are wasting money on a hopeless cause like Pato.
(Bitch.)
Rosa is eager to get Pato back to Mexico, but Max points out
that he hasn’t even left intensive care yet. Max is going to stay as long as it
takes, but Rosa has decided to go back to Mexico. She’s got thing to do in
Mexico. (WTF??!!) Anyway, why is she
needed if Max is there? Rod is also going back to take the lead at the company,
cause you know, he actually has a job, unlike Rosa, whose only job is making
people’s lives miserable. Max goes to make work calls, so Rosa takes that
moment to ask Rod if he’s still mad at her. He walks by her without saying a
word. Then she has the nerve to tell him he should be thanking her because she
saved him. He may not see it now, but he will with time. He looks like he wants to
slap her, but just walks away instead.
Claudio looks through stacks of banking files from 1990 to 1992.
He tells Max that he is going to discover any mistakes that he made and reveal
him for the fraud he is.
In the apartment courtyard, Luci telling Vio how anxious she
is to hear news of Pato. She borrows Vio’s cell to call Mati to get the good
news. Vio is still totally down. Marcial broke her heart. She trusted him and
had so many hopes and dreams and he made a fool of her. That’s why she should
never fall in love. She hates getting hurt and she hates crying for him or any
man. Luci asks her to come back to the pueblo with her. Vio says she can’t go
back. She’s a city girl at heart. Luci never wanted to leave her people and her
land. The only thing of value she found here was love, and she also felt the
pain of losing it. Vio is determined to put Marcial out of her mind and move
on. Love doesn’t exist, she says. Luci says love does exist. Love gives you the
strength to do anything, even to recover the shattered pieces of your heart
after it’s been broken. She hugs Vio and tells her not to cry anymore.
Max tells Oscar that he’s staying in Boston and Rod will
return to oversee the business. Oscar reports that all is well, at least with
the business. Max catches on that Linares must be causing trouble. Oscar tells
him that the last reports show Claudio in Germany investigating all of Max’s
and the company’s bank transactions from 20 years ago. Max gets into a snit and
says that Claudio is moving too fast for comfort, and Oscar needs to be on top
of it. “I have to win this game!” Oscar
looks like he needs some Calgon to take him away. The next demand that Max makes,
really throws Oscar for a loop. Max orders him to fire Don Jero immediately.
Roh, ruh?! “Excuse me. Jerónimo?
Our LOYAL employee? Excuse me Max, what did he do?” Max gives the bogus excuse
that he broke company rules since his daughter Vicky is dating Aldo. Max simply
won’t permit it. Click! Then he speaks out loud to Vicky, calling her stupid
for seeing him and Aldo, and lying to him about it. He won’t let them (Aldo and
Vicky) make a fool of him.
Don A. returns to Inferno and asks Ivan about the cute
singer, Coral. Vio takes the stage with Don Aquiles front and center calling
her Chula. He asks his Palomita to forgive him. (Please writers, don’t let the
flirting go any further if she’s his daughter.)
In the office, Lastra has a hissy fit when Ivan suggests he
drops the charges against Lorenzo after Aldo’s threats. Lastra will not put up
anyone challenging his authority. He’s still determined to throw Lorenzo in
jail.
Genaro brings H&M to the vencinidad to see Luci. They
arrive just in time for breakfast, which Luci is preparing for Fabian and
Lorenzo. They’ve come to bring Luci to register for the exam. Luci tries to
back out but Lorenzo says she has to do it. He also can’t take his eyes off
Hannah.
Rosa calls home to get an update from Frigida. Everything is
good, except that damn Mati who’s going off all day to gossip with her sister
and Luci, and bragging that Rosa would never fire her. Rosa tells her to have
Mati call her, then hangs up on Frigida who’s in mid sentence. “Why are you
going to see Luci, Mati? Why?” Frigida goes upstairs and purposely scares Mati,
then she passes on the message to call Rosa. She tries to hang around to hear
the conversation.
The nurse is showing Pato how to use the pain meds and nurse call buttons, as Rod watches. Rod asks how he slept. Not that great with Rod snoring
away in the corner. Rod apologizes and says he’s really tired and really
stressed.
P: About Luciana? Dad told me that you never got in touch with
his contacts at the embassy. Tell me the truth already Rod. Why didn’t Luci
come with you? You had a fight, right?
R: Luci fooled us all Patricio. She lied to us.
P: I don’t believe it. Luci is not that kind of woman. Rod, someone has messed
with your head. (Literally, someone has heated up your head. Perfect
description for Hot Head Rod!)
R: I just found out that she’s been hiding things! That she’s involved in a
really nasty matter (asunto).
P: And what did you do? Did you listen to her?! Or did you just judge her, like
you usually do when you get angry?! Rod, you can’t fight with Luciana. Not just
a few days before your wedding.
R: Luciana and I are over, forever.
Luci walks with H&M through the parking lot of the
school. She was thinking about just finishing her high school exams when she
went back to her pueblo, but it’s better that she just gets it over with now.
H&M are glad that this will delay Luci’s departure at least a bit. This way
they can spend more time with her, and it gives them hope that she and Rod will
make up. The audience can tell that Luci seems to be walking a bit slowly and
looks a little woozy. She’s just saying that she doesn’t think she and Rod are
going to get back together, when all of a sudden she collapses, but is luckily
caught by H&M before she hits the ground. Hannah thinks it’s because she
left home without eating breakfast, so they head to get some food.
Rosa wants to know if it’s true that Mati has gone to see
Luci. She’s sure that Luci must be hiding herself in shame under her bed after
being found out for trying to fool them all. Mati tells her to take that b.s.
story somewhere else, because SHE knows the whole truth. What Rosa should know
is that while she was at her sister’s, Paz Jacinto called and spoke to her.
R: That woman. What did she say?
M: That you better not even think of harming her daughter. Because if you do,
she will come and confront you in your own house, and tell the whole truth in
front of everyone!
Listening in on another phone, Frigida’s mouth drops open
with shock. Rosa is looking mighty impactada herself.
Avances: Pato is p*ssed at
Rod and tells him to go find Luci to make up. Rod encounters Luci on the street.

Abismo de pasión #84 7/9/12: Kenia Floats to the Surface while Flor Sinks Her Claws into Dam
Lo Refrito
We are treated again to a crying, pathetic Pal and an abuela who assures her it's not the end of the world. Pal insists that it is. We also get to relive the creepy preparations made by Alf. Drunk Dumbian (kid, you got a future in recapping) stumbles home. Flor attacks. Toad and Elisa talk. She gets herself penciled onto Cyn's
Dumb Chicks List by suggesting that Carmina is redeemable. Toad head gives his approval of Elisa and Dumbian's relationship...even though it is going to mean Elisa gets a MIL from hell.
Lo Nuevo
Witch Mountain
Paloma is no where to be found! Ramona calls and calls, but alas, Paloma does not answer.
Casa Arango
Flor is convinced they can fix their problems.Flor is willing to do anything to get Dumbian back. He wants her to prove she loves him and that she can get Elisa out of his system. Flor obliges and is pretty sure her lips, caresses and body can help him forget.
Casa Lupe's
Ramona is looking for Pal and she's pithed thinking that Pal is there. She finds out Gael and Pal broke up. Gael offers to help look. Ramona tells him to stay away from her granddaughter.
...But the next morning at the Cenote
Ramona is in a panic when Gael shows up. Pal was gone all night and Ramona has no idea where she is! Out of the corner of her eye Ramona sees the floating body of Kenia. Gael swims out to investigate while Ramona panics. Gael confirms the woman is dead. Lots of screaming from Ramona (Note: Vestuario was very careful to dress Pal in red on Friday and Kenia is also wearing red. Kudos.) Gael explains that the body is in bad shape and it can't be Paloma. It's in such bad shape he can even ID the body. The authorities need to be called.
Don Lucio's
Turns out Pal went looking for Elisa last night at Don Lucio's, but since it was so late he offered to let her stay at his house. Lucio tells Pal to talk to Elisa about why she went back home. Pathetic Pal whines about being in love with someone who doesn't return the feeling.
Padre Lupe's
Elisa comes looking for Dam. Padre lets her know he's back at Casa Arango. She asks Padre if he told Damian the truth, but of course he didn't do something as plot advancing too fast as that. He figured it was Elisa's right to do that. She knows Padre Lupe convinced Carmina to tell truth; how did he know? He didn't KNOW KNOW he just, you know, intuited it. Steffie was such an exemplary woman incapable of betraying ToadHead. ToadHead was the love of her life. She loved him until her last moment. He offers sweets and encourages Elisa to go see Dam and Casa Arango. He'll be SO HAPPY to see her. Yeah. Right. I saw the avances.
Casa Arango
Tonia wants to know if she should wake the children. Alf tells her not to disturb them and that they are back together. When Tonia notes that Flor and Damian were TOGETHER, Alf chides her. It's not like their sleeping together were a sin (weeeell, what would Padre Lupe say??) Today things are very different and besides, they are back together. Tonia is just as gobsmacked as Viewerville at the speed in which those two resumed the knocking of the boots. She promises to be discreet and not tell anyone. Alf, however, would like Tonia to flap her gums and wag her tongue from La Ermita all the way to the DF. Word must get out!
Blanquita's Carnicería (That is just so.damn.wrong.)
Carmina slaps the mutton out of Horacio's chops. She is pithed that not only are the plane tickets not in her
possession, but Gab laughed at her (oh! the nerve!) She threatens to tell Lola the truth about Horacio and Horacio threatens to tell the truth about the plane tickets to Disgusto.
Road in the Vicinity of La Ermita and Witch Mountain
Quique encounters Paloma alone and crying. He offers her a ride and we finally get to see some chemistry with Pal and a guy. GAEL IS NOT FOR YOU, CHICK!
Casa Arango
Elisa insists on seeing Dam. Tonia tries to get rid of her by offering tell Dam she was there and suggests he meet her somewhere (anywhere!) Elisa says it's urgent she talk to Dam. Tonia offers to get Dam while Elisa waits outside, but they are interrupted by the ever-so-helpful Alf who draws a map so Elisa can go to Dam's room at the end of the hall. Wasn't that sweet of her? Hell no. Just as the avances showed us, Elisa happens upon Dam and Flor post en flagrante delicto. Did you notice Tonia's face? She's starting to really see how evil her patrona is!
Casa Arango-Dining Room
Tonia doesn't think what Alf did was very nice. Alf disagrees. She's finally solved the Elisa problem. Elisa enters and Alf asks if she got to see and talk to Damián. Alf offers to wake him. Elisa turns down the offer and asks Alf not to tell Dam she was there. For once Alf is going to respect someone's wishes. Elisa leaves and Alf instructs Tonia to tell the driver to be ready to take her to Mérida.
As Elisa leaves (weeping) she runs into Gab who drops the "I'm buying Cielo Abierto" bomb.
Meanwhile in the recámara of revolting reconciliations Flor thanks Dam for last night. She asks if he remembers what he said to her: that he needed her and that Elisa was nothing to him. Dam asks For to forgive him, but she says there is nothing to forgive him for. He says he and Elisa are an impossibility. Flor leaves and Dam looks for the amulet.
Street La Ermita
Gael happens upon Elisa and mistakes her as a streetwalker from behind...no not really...she's just dressed that way. What really happened was Gael asked if Elisa knew where Pal was. She hasn't been home all night and there was this body floating in front of the hut and it was icky and swollen and horrible and *shudder*. Elisa thinks it must have been terrible.
Casa Arango-Alf's Den
Dam wants to know where his amulet is. Alf plays innocent. He leaves to go to the Pro Ce and Alf tells him she is glad he is rebuilding his life and hopes he rebuilds his relationship with Flor. Alf gives him the engagement ring.
Back in the Casa Arango-Kitchen
Gab comes in, sloppily eats an apple and asks Chente Inútil how's it going with the ladies. They talk trash about the ladies and Chente hints that he knows there used to be something between Gab and his mother. Gab says there was nothing more than a few kisses. Oh and how convenient, Brau overhears it!! He bursts in and challenges Gab to say it again to his face.
Casa Arango Pool
Flor and Dam at breakfast. He gives her the ring and says they must
marry ASAP(check out his face...happy is not the word.) After the commercial break Flor notes his misery and he explains all the great reasons they should get married: it's a knee jerk decision made in the aftermath of learning a horrible truth about the one he loves and he needs to cling to something so as not to sink (I took a little licence.) Flor gets that, but she needs certain assurances that Dam won't go running back to Elisa. He finally tells Flor that Elisa is his hermana. Flor is thrilled.
In the kitchen Brau is still pithed and want to get into it with Brau. Chente Inútil tells Brau Gab can best him in a fight. Tonia comes in and throws metaphoric water on the fighting dogs. Brau makes Gab leave. Brau confonts Tonia about what he heard.
CSI Laguna Azul
Kenia's yet to be identified body is taken away in a body bag. Ramona talks to the CSI investigator and asks where they are taking the body (to the morgue.) She rehashes the why and how of the discovery of the body. The officer confirms that the woman they found has been dead for several days. Ramona then starts to ask about finding Paloma when Pal and Enrique walk up. Pal is mortified and thinks Ramona called the cops and the ambulance because of her. Ramona is glad to see Pal, but then mad at her for spending the night with Quique. Quique swears he just gave her a ride (and I bet inside he was praying he wouldn't get turned to a toad.) Pal explains she was with Don Lucio and Ramona explains about the dead woman.
Filler Pro Ce Scene
ING comes to see Gab. Maru asks about her daughter. ING tells Maru her daughter left a week ago.
Back to Brau
He is pithed. Chente says he lied. Brau asks why and Chente says it was wishful thinking. Gab is the bomb. Chente is very insulting and tells Brau he's nothing and he would give anything to have a dad like Gab. THWAP! Brau hits Chente. Chente's rag looks just like his dad's (meaning Gab's.)
Ramona's Hut
Gael and Elisa have arrived. Pal is very cool to both. Elisa wants to talk to her, but Pal tells her she doesn't want to and has to go to work. Gael offers to walk her and she turns him down. Exit Pal. Ramona tells Gael again that she doesn't want him near her granddaughter. She tells him to leave and not come back. She tells Elisa to stay because she wants to talk to her. And it's a good thing I record LQNPA too or I wouldn't have the last 5ish minutes of tonight's episode because Looneyvision's scheduling monkeys SUCK!
*ahem* Anyhoo....Ramona tells Elisa about Gael and Pal's break up. She tells Elisa that Pal hurts when she sees Gael with Elisa and Gael hurts when he sees Elisa with Gael. Elisa better do something about the situation (what the heck does Ramona expect her to do?)
Casa Arango
Alf gives Gab a check for the deposit on Casa Abierto and tells him to deposit it in his name so there are no suspicions. She's on her way to Mérida and as she leaves she tells Gab that Dam is back in charge. Gab grits his teeth.
Outside the house Alf is met by Flor who shows her the ring. Alf is even surprised how fast that happened. Flor tells her that Dam says it's urgent they marry soon. Flor wants to know why Alf didn't tell her about the sibling business sooner? Alf tells her she didn't know, either and is was quite a nasty surprise. Flor thinks that now she won't have to have child, but Alf disagrees. It's still imperative that Flor get pregnant. She wants a grandchild...now! And a child is the perfect weapon for keeping a man (day-um Rosendo must have been one miserable guy!) Flor fires back that it sure didn't work with Rosendo. He left her for another woman even though she had a child. Alf says Dam is very different, she made sure of that. Flor tells Alf to get her dad out of jail and she needs money. Alf reminds her that her dad stole her money and she'll have to wait. If Flor wants money, she needs to pray she made a baby last night. Holy crap this woman is well-dressed hell on wheels!

Refugio Para el Amor #62-63 Mon 7/9/12 Rod and Luci Cry, Lie, and Say Goodbye
Rod knocks on Luci’s door late at night, wearing a tight
thermal underwear top and a scowl. She wants to know what he’s doing there. Luci
thought they had nothing to talk about. Your recapper hopes he’s come to beg
for forgiveness on his knees. But, oh no! Hot Head Rod is just there to
continue to be stupid and accusatory. He
*says* he wants to end things like “civilized” people by talking (you know that
thing he wouldn’t let Luci do earlier).
L: If our relationship (lo nuestro) is over, then it’s over,
period (y punto). There’s nothing to talk about. Especially if it’s not
important to you.
R: Yes it’s important to me. Very much
so. And that’s why I asked you if all the accusations against you are true, and
you confirmed it.
Luci says that much of what was said was true, but she’s no
thief (ratera). She’s never stolen anything from anyone. “And what about your
brother, Lorenzo!?” Luci says they are not talking about her brother, they are talking about them. Rod then contradicts himself by
saying they have nothing to talk about. Luci wants to know, then why the hell
did he come?
R: I came to say goodbye to you. (a despedir me de ti) To
tell you that you are the woman I had (notice the tense) loved most in my
entire life.
L: I didn’t once love you. (She uses the past tense, then grabs his face.) I
LOVE you! (present tense) You are what I most love in this world. Please.
Rod removes her hands from his face then turns his back to
her. She says she’s going for the box of things he gave her, since there is no
reason to keep anything of his. While she’s in the back, he sits on the couch
and sees the infamous magazine. He picks it up and works himself up into a fury
again.
In Boston, Max has tucked Pato into bed and tells Hannah she
can’t come for the operation but Rosa needs to be there tomorrow. Now that her
dirty business of disgracing the love of her son’s life is over, Rosa has no
problem going out of town to support her other son during a major, life-changing
operation. Rosa knows how to set her priorities. Max wants to speak with Rod
too, but he’s been MIA and Max hasn’t been able to locate him. Rosa plays dumb.
She’ll relay the news to him. Once she’s off the phone, Boris tries to wish her
farewell with a kiss on the cheek, but she dodges him like he has the plague.
(I guess it’s not just poor people cooties she hates.) Just to stick it to her
mama, Hannah gives Boris a quick farewell kiss, on the lips. Connie smiles at
the young lovers. Rosa gets mighty annoyed and tells Hannah to sit her teenaged
butt down.
Connie and Hannah start to question Rosa about what went
down between her, Julie, Rod and Luci that afternoon. Rosa plays dumb. Connie pushes. “What did you
do Rosalena?” Rosa tells Connie not to play the saint and make her out to be a
witch. (If the curled toe shoe fits Rosa…) She gets worked up and says they
just unmasked Luci, that’s all. She says she didn’t do anything. Rod just
learned Luci’s dirty past. Then she throws a tantrum and leaves the table
before Connie can ask any more questions. Connie turns to Mati for answers, but she
knows nothing since she was locked up in the elevator. Connie can’t believe
this. Mati tells her to ask Frigida and Connie makes a bee line for the
kitchen. She tells Frigida not to act stupid (mensa). She knows something went
down and Frgida was neck deep in it. Connie doesn’t buy this mysterious
accident of Mati getting locked in the elevator. She warns Frigida that if she
finds out she was involved, she will herself throw Frigida’s belongings out on
the streets after she talks to Max and Rod. She better ask Gala or Julie for a
job and see if they are as loyal to her as she has been to them! With that, Ms.
Connie sashays out of the kitchen and Frigida looks mighty worried. “They’re
going to fire me.” (Me van a correr.)
Julie and Gala arrive home as Julie gives Gala the news that
the domestica (drink!) has been run off and Rod ran after her. Julie tells her
how angry Rod was, and what he needs most now is Gala’s solace (consuelo). Gala
plays it cool though. She knows it’s not the right timing for her cling-wrap
act.
When Luci comes out with the box of gifts, Hot Head Rod is
ready for Round 2 of his screaming match with her. He holds the magazine up in
an accusatory way and goes on and on about how she told him she had never
received it. She says she isn’t going to try to defend herself. What for, if
he’s not going to believe her? She
shoves the box at him and tells him to look through it to make sure everything
is there. He slams the box on the coffee table and says he’s not interested in
it or anything in it. Well, neither is she. She then tells him to give it to Gala, since she knows he wants to run to her. He says he does not. Then he demands that
she throw the magazine in the trash and shoves it at her. They continue their
stare down and she tells HIM to throw it away, or he can just give it to his mama to add to her collection. (Oh, snap!) She walks away from him and turns her back. He tosses
the magazine angrily and says he’s leaving. He then hesitates and comes back to
look at her back longingly. Then he changes his mind again and goes to leave.
Luci calls his name just before he exits. She offers him back her ring. He
stares at it with tears in his eyes, but does not take it back. He’s stepping
through the door just as Lorenzo steps in. Rod immediately asks him about the
$30,000 pesos. Lorenzo asks if they know already, and stares at Luci in shock.
At the same time, Rod stare daggers at Luci, as one more of her “lies” has been
confirmed. Luci can’t believe that yet another big anvil has fallen on her
unsuspecting head. She falls into Lorenzo’s arms weeping.
Vio is working at Inferno, but her head is elsewhere. Polo
notices that she’s down (achicopalada). She doesn’t want to tell him what’s wrong,
but he knows it has to do with Marcial. Vio makes a disparaging remark about
all men, even though she has a fantastic one who really loves her standing
right in front of her.
At the apartment, Lorenzo is on his knees in front of Luci
(where we would have liked to see Rod earlier), talking fast to explain about
the whole gambling chips/Aldo/lost $30,000 pesos situation. Luci tells him he shouldn’t have done it or
given in to Aldo. At the end of the day,
it was still Lorenzo who committed the crime. Lorenzo explains that he returned
the money. Luci loses it. What was the use when the damage was already done?!
What is she going to tell their mother?!! How is she going to tell her that her
wedding has been cancelled? She plops onto the couch in a puddle of tears.
Lorenzo goes over to her to comfort her. If Rod is throwing all that they had
away without even giving her a chance to explain things, then he doesn’t love
her as much as he says. (Amen!) It’s better that it happened now, than after they got married (by the Church).
Hannah tells Connie that Rod is not answering her calls.
She’s worried. Connie is more hopeful that it means he is thinking things over, which will result in him working things out with Luci. Connie is sure that Julie and Gala
are behind it all. Hannah is really worried about what to tell Pato, but Connie
says that’s Rosa’s job. Hannah begs Connie to speak to Rosa to figure out what
happened. Connie refuses because she knows she’ll just end up trying to rip the
blonde hairs out of her crazy sister’s head if they argue. Plus, Rosa is sick.
Hannah thinks it’s totally unfair what her mother has done to Luci, and Luci
doesn’t deserve it. Connie totally
agrees. Hannah asks Connie if she knows why Rosa hates Luci so much. Connie
admits that she knows, but she can’t say since it’s a secret between her and
her sister Rosa.
Hot Head Rod is in his apartment having a pity party for
one. He pulls out the booze and glasses, turns on the weepy muzak, takes out an
innocent lamp with his liquor glass, and…hey now! Listen Rod, I don’t care if
you take your shirt off, for no discernable reason, and flex your well
developed pecs at me as you weep and gnash your teeth in anguish. I will not be
swayed by your manly, chiseled, sculpted physique! You are still dead to me.
Luci is having a more dignified cry on her couch right at
that moment as well.
Vio is telling Polo that when it rains it pours. Her and her
man troubles. Luci with hers. And Lorenzo and the missing money and losing his
job. Serena is shocked to hear Lorenzo lost his job and gets caught up on the
gossip. Vio is sure Aldo will be showing up there soon since he loves to
gamble.
However, Aldo is totally engulfed in the Inferno and
Torreslanda accounts he’s hacked. He is impressed by how much money Uncle Max is
raking in through both his above board and shady businesses. Oscar interrupts,
surprised that Aldo is still at work so late. Aldo quickly closes his laptop
and tells him he’s working on confidential business. Oscar is incredulous, but
leaves him to it. “Until tomorrow, Mr. Impresario.” Aldo realizes how late it is and calls Vicky
to ask her out. She is fast asleep on the couch beside her cell phone. Aldo
apologizes for being so late. She’s tired and begs off till tomorrow. They agree to dinner and then the Inferno tomorrow night.
Don Aquiles arrives at Inferno making his presence known to
everyone. Vio is not happy to see him and tries to get Serena to serve him
instead. Ivan, however, orders Vio to serve him. She accidently addresses him
by name, and he wants to know how she knew his name. She covers by saying they
all know the VIP customer names. He demands to know where Luci is and says he
needs to talk to her. Vio claims not to know anything, but Lastra butts in and
gives Aquiles Luci’s address, to show him that they’re friends.
In the Inferno office, happy Lastra is counting the money
(and putting a little in his pocket too, I notice). He nearly tells Ivan about his other
relationship with Aquiles. As soon as Lastra leaves the office, Ivan slips some
of the cash into his own pocket. (I
actually think Aldo is right that Max could benefit from him overseeing things
at Inferno.)
Rod is good and drunk and decides to go somewhere. We know
no good ever comes from a galan being drunk, angry, and lonely.
In Boston, Pato can’t sleep. He’s worried about the
operation. Max gives him a pep talk. Pato has a strong will, and that is what
will keep him going.
Luci is curled up asleep on her couch when there is yet another
knock on her door. No, it’s not Drunk Hot Head Rod, ready for Round 3. Instead
it’s Don Juan Aquiles, holding a single pink rose. Looking absolutely defeated
by the cruel joke life has decided to play on her that never-ending day, Luci can
only weakly ask what he’s doing there and lets him in. He’s come for her, says
our geriatric Romeo. Luci says he’s just there to bug her and begs him to leave
her in peace. “I’ve never done anything to you”, says Luci as she sits on a
chair looking defeated. Don A just silently offers her the rose.
Over in a posher part of town, Gala is also getting an
unexpected gentleman caller. It’s Drunk Hot Head Rod, flashing his angry man
cleavage at her. “You and I are going to talk.”
Luci begs Aquiles to please understand that there is nothing
he can get from her. Just leave her in peace. He gets on his knees in front of
her. (The second man to do that tonight who is not Rod.) Aquiles says he’s
forgiven her the family debt. She counters that she’s forgiven HIM for all he
did to them. Don A wants to know what those chilangos have done to her to
change her. This is what happened to her for getting involved with people who
aren’t like them—small town folk. Luci yells at him that it isn’t his concern.
He says of course it’s his concern. Even if she doesn’t care for him, for her,
he’d do anything. Just tell him who put
her in this weepy state, and he’ll go break their face right now! Luci tells him it’s not necessary because she
knows how to protect herself. He knows it. That’s why he loves her so much,
because she’s such a spitfire. She will always be his Palomita. He agrees to
go, but tells her if she needs anything to just tell him. He leaves the rose on
the table, and walks out looking sad that his Palomita is so sad.
Rod is drunk, but he’s saying all the right things to Gala.
(Maybe he should have spoken to Luci when he was drunk.) He accuses her of
planning the whole thing and purposely filling his head with nonsense about
Luci to break them up. She yells right back that it’s not her fault he married
that class of woman. This gets Rod even more worked up and he grabs and shakes
her, accusing her of planning the whole thing—getting him and Luci there at the
right time in order to corner (acorralar) and trap Luci. Gala plays the victim
to the hilt and says she won’t stand to be accused in this manner in her own
home. She once again denies the blame
and throws it all on his mama Rosa. Rod brings up the magazine article. Gala
did it all to make Luci look like a slut (cualquiera). “I just did my job. And
if that’s a sin, then condemn me. I knew nothing. Nothing! The only sin I
committed was loving you as much as I do. And you humiliated me by ditching me
at the altar! ” Rod tries to get them back to the issue at hand by saying that
had nothing to do with what they’re talking about. (Hold on. If he thinks that
what Gala has done to Luci has NOTHING to do with him dumping Gala on their
wedding day, then running off to marry someone else, then he’s dumber than I
thought.) Gala says that she nobly stepped aside and set him free to be with
Luci- the SLUT! Rod demands that she not
call Luci that, but Gala is on a roll playing the victim. Luci doesn’t deserve
his love, but she (Gala) has done everything for him. She loves him more than
her own life and all he has done is humiliate and insult her. He is
disrespecting her as a woman, and as a human being. Now that Gala has ground up
the last of his pebbles into sand, Rod decides to leave, after giving Gala the
happy news that he and Luci are in splitsville for good. Viewerville sees a
trail of sand coming out of his pant leg. “I beat you domestica. (Drink!) I
took Rod from you forever, forever.”
The next morning, Rosa is at the private airport early,
looking like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, after she’s had the pleasure of a
kill. Pato and Max wait for her eagerly in Boston. Pato is happy she will be
there, and speaks about how one naturally feels at ease and protected when ill,
when you have your mom and dad, like when you were a kid. Pato feels fortunate
to have them both with him. This makes Max smile and he gives Pato a kiss. They
leave for the hospital.
Hannah shows up at Rod’s apartment full of questions about
what happened, if he’s spoken with Luci, and what’s happening with them. Rod
refuses to answer any of her questions, but instead offers to take her to
school. She informs him about Pato’s operation and their mother leaving for
Boston.
Connie has Julie meet her for breakfast to get the lowdown
on what happened with Luci and Rod. Julie plays innocent, but says it had to do
with some man named Lastra who Luci was “involved” with (se entendian) before
she began working for the family. “It was a surprise to everyone, but I always
knew the kind of woman she was.” She then says that this is Rod’s concern and
they shouldn’t interfere. Connie is not buying this b.s. She gives Julie a good
hard stare.
Over at Vio’s, everyone is depressed. Lorenzo suggests to
Luci that they tell their mother that the wedding is just postponed due to
Pato’s health issues. Luci says she won’t lie to her mama. But she wants to go
to the pueblo and tell her in person. Vio thinks she should hold off a bit,
since she and Rod might make up soon. Luci says it’s over between them,
especially after what happened last night (when he came to the apt.). Lorenzo and Fabian make themselves scarce to go
find work. Fabian already has a weekend gig with the mechanic on the corner.
Lorenzo says he’s going to speak with Aldo to see if he can help him get a job.
He goes to kiss her goodbye, but Luci stops him when she asks what’s going on
with the formal charges against him (denuncia). We, and Lorenzo, can tell she’s ticked off at
her little bro. He hasn’t heard anything yet, but all he can do is take the
bull by the horns and face the consequences.
Luci and Vio talk about how they
came to the big city for work, thinking that things would be easier than in the
pueblo, but they’re worse off- both she and Lorenzo have no work or money. Vio
tells her about Don Aquiles having her address now. Luci says he already found
her, but he left when she asked him to. Luci breaks down and says she now knows
how her mom felt when her dad died. She feels so alone. Vio thinks that after a
while Rod will regret it and come back to her. “And what about what I
feel? Do you think that I’m going to
wait for him to forgive me all my life?”
Rod comes to work full of attitude. He asks the secretary to
bring him lots of water, in an attempt to get rid of his hangover. Marcos and
Gabriel tease him because they think he’s been celebrating, but soon they and
Oscar realize that Rod is in a foul mood. They want to finalize a few things
for a meeting that will take place when he’s supposed to be on honeymoon. He
informs them there will be no honeymoon, or wedding. The guys are in shock.
Vio and Luci lament the heartache and disappointment they
will bring their mamas when they find out about their disgrace—lying, working
at Inferno, not being a nurse, and cancelled wedding. Vio asks about Luci returning the box of gifts.
Luci explains about Rod refusing to accept it, then looks daggers at Vio when
she suggests that Luci keep it. Luci’s going to send it to his apt. She doesn’t
want anything that reminds her of him. (I notice that she is back to her cute
pueblo clothes and ballet flats.) She doesn’t yet know what she’s going to do.
Estella knocks and tells Luci her mama’s on the phone. Luci looks like she’s
walking the plank as she follows Estella to her apartment.
The guys at the office think Rod must mean they have just
postponed the wedding. He tells them it is cancelled, and gives no further
explanation.
On the phone, Luci tries to distract her mom by asking about
Ariche. She’s struggling to hold back tears and to keep her voice even. Paz
tells Luci that she needs to have a serious talk with Rod. Luci starts getting
nervous. “Why? What did he do?” Paz explains that Rod sent her a huge money
transfer/wire (giro). Paz can’t accept money from Luci’s husband. Luci gets worked
up and tells her mom not to accept a cent of that money. Paz had no intention
of doing so. Luci apologizes because she knows her mama wouldn’t do that. Paz
asks when she and Rod are coming to get her, Magda and Ariche. Luci almost
totally loses it. She starts crying silently, but then changes her mind about
truth telling. She gives her mama Lorenzo’s story about postponing the wedding
until after Pato’s surgery and recovery. Paz then asks if Lorenzo is ok and if
he’s gotten himself in any trouble. Luci lies to her mama again and says
everything is hunky dory. Then she rushes off the phone. Paz gives her the
blessing, but when she hangs up she tells Theo that Luci sounded really sad
(tristona) and out of it (apagada) to her. A mother knows when something bad
has happened to their child. She asks Theo if she can come back later to make
another call. It’s no problem for big cuddly Theo-bear.
Luci fondles her wedding ring and cries.
Frigida is showing Mati the magazine and saying that Luci
deserved what she got. Mati says her poor Luci didn’t deserve this or the way
she’s been treated since she got to this house. Frigida tells her to watch her
tone, since the person behind it is HER patrona, who happens to be Mati’s patrona
too. Frigida tries to threaten that Mati will get her butt fired if she keeps
speaking this way about Rosa. Mati sets her straight. Frigida shouldn’t even
dare think that she can come between Mati and her niña Rosa. She’s known her since she was born. The first
one out the door would be Frigida, not Mati.
Well, if you know her so well and love her so much, you wouldn’t be
making those comments against her behind her back.” (Yeah Mati, time to start saying this stuff
to Rosa’s face.)
Rod calls Max, who’s in the hospital waiting room with Rosa, and
gets the Pato update. They are still doing tests today, so the operation will
be tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Rod says he’s going to Boston to be
with his brother. Max then asks if he wants to speak with his mama. Rod gives a
firm no. He’ll call later to talk to
Pato. After he hangs up, Rosa rushes up to Max and nervously asks what Rod told
him. She realizes that he didn’t want to speak to her.
Rod relays the news to the office guys, that he’s going to Boston
(instead of trying to rescue his marriage to Luci). Marcos and Gabriel are
open-mouthed impactados. Oscar springs up in disgust and leaves Rod’s office.
Gala and her assistant are looking over layouts for the next
edition of the magazine. Gala doesn’t like the photos. They aren’t as impactful
as the last issue. The assistant agrees that the last edition was quite
popular. It sold record numbers. Valentina and Fernanda come in to take Gala
out to lunch and to get the most updated Rod-Luci gossip. Gala happily tells
them that Rod and Luci are broken up for good, and she heard it straight from
the horse’s ass’s mouth (Rod). He came to her apartment like a wounded animal.
He was destroyed. He and Luci are NEVER getting back together. Valentina wisely tells Gala to never say never, about Rod and
Luci making up. “Ya Valentonta! Ya!” (LOL! If I actually hated Vale, I would
use Gala’s clever nickname for her.) Gala tells her to leave and make her comments
elsewhere, if she’s going to continue to make sense. But Gala will not let her
ruin her day. She gloats that Luci made this all so easy by keeping silent
about all this stuff. She dug her own grave.
Speaking of graves, the cemetery caretaker is digging up a few in
order to get and plant those baby clothes in Aurora’s tomb, on Rosa’s orders.
Luci looks over her secondary school enrollment/exams papers, when
with perfect timing, Hannah and Melissa show up at her door. They want to know
what happened and why she and Rod fought.
In the Boston hospital waiting room, Max is wondering if Luci will
come to Boston, since it would do Pato good to have her there. Rosa snippily
asks why it would be important to her. (Uhm, maybe because it has to do with
your son’s well-being!) She coldly says he should ask Rod, while she flips
through a magazine. Max looks at her like she has two heads. Then he suggests
that since they are in this good hospital, they should get her a check up to
try to figure out what is impeding her from being happy. She’s saved from
having to think up a good come back when her phone rings. It’s the cemetery caretaker
telling her the job is done. Since her policy is to block all the bad things
SHE has done from her mind so that she can play the saint, this call upsets her
apple cart. She starts yelling at the man that she doesn’t want to hear it or
know about it! She’ll call him later. Max is mighty perplexed about all of
this. He demands to know who she was speaking with who upset her so much
(alterar). “What are you plotting
(tramando) now Rosalena?!” She refuses to respond, and Max grabs her arm and demands
an answer. She reminds him where they are, and says it’s not the place nor the
time for an argument.
M: You are my wife and you owe me respect. I am getting tired of
you plotting things all on your own.
You’ve shown me that you’re not worthy of my trust.
R: And are you (worthy of my trust)? After what you did to Claudio Linares?
Have you forgotten?
M: That’s in the past! You keep digging
it up to make my life impossible/give me a hard time.
R: Well we’ll see if life is the same when the truth about the fraud is
discovered!
The doctor interrupts to give them the update on Pato, who has
also come out with him. Everything is
ready for the surgery tomorrow, and Pato needs lots of rest beforehand. Max
leaves with the doctor to get more details. Rosa reiterates to Pato that he
needs to rest. Pato agrees, but he would have liked for Rod and Luci to be
there. “You don’t need them! Neither of them!” (Bitch.) She then tells him he
made this decision to have the surgery on his own, and it will go well. Pato
knows, but is sad that he will miss Rod and Luci’s wedding. He would have so
liked to share in Rod’s happiness and see Luci looking beautiful in her wedding
dress. Rosa says nothing and looks constipated.
H&M haven’t gotten far in getting info out of Luci. Like Rod,
all she says is that they broke up. Melissa doesn’t believe there’s nothing
more to it. They wouldn’t have just gotten angry at each other, just like that.
They’re already married, and a simple quarrel (pleito) wouldn’t put an end to
that. Luci admits it wasn’t a simple quarrel. She shows them the magazine and
admits the cover girl is her. Hannah is livid that they would do this to Luci.
Luci explains that they threw the accusations at her in such a way that she
couldn’t defend herself. She can’t understand how they even got photos since
she doesn’t remember taking any and was only there one night. Melissa explains
that those places have security cameras which made it easy for them to capture
images of her. Melissa has it all figured out. All of this was planned by Gala
and Julie, with support from Auntie Rosa. Hannah asks what the heck is wrong
with her mother. She never thought she would go this far. She apologizes to
Luci. “She’s always hated me, and if I gave her reasons to hate me more, well
it’s even worse.” Melissa takes Luci’s
hands and asks how they can help. Luci is completely defeated. They can’t help.
Her marriage is over. Melissa thinks Rod is just confused and will soon
reconsider (recapacitar). Hannah thinks their love is too great to be
defeated. Melissa hugs Luci.
At the office, Gabriel and Marcos browbeat Rod into having dinner
at his place that night. His cell phone rings and it cute as a button Ariche
wanting to talk to his buddy Rod. He remembers the vow he made to Ariche to
take care of Luci, and takes hold of the ball Ariche gifted him. (I hope the
guilt is starting to sink in.) Ariche asks when Rod is coming for them for the
wedding, and we have a repeat of the Luci-Paz conversation. He tells Ariche
they have delayed the wedding for Pato’s operation and recuperation. Ariche
agrees to wait, but tells him not to be too long. He’s already got his new
sandals and white clothes for the wedding. Ariche asks Rod to pass the phone to
Luci. Rod explains that Luci isn’t there with him. Ariche asks Rod to tell Luci
that he loves her and misses her, and he loves and misses Rod too. (I really
hope that guilt is sinking in deep.) “Adios amigo!” Rod tells Ariche that he
loves him too. After he hangs up, Ariche happily continues his flute lessons
with Theo-bear. (Is there a good young woman in Het Het for Theo? I am really
starting to like the big guy.) Rod meanwhile cries into the ball, then angrily
takes his copy of the magazine and rips it to shreds.
Julie, Gala, Valentina and Fernanda have gone out for a
celebratory lunch. Julie has ordered champagne for them all, and Valentina,
ever the ditsy voice of wisdom, asks why Julie always drinks champagne. Julie
answers that there is an infinite limit to the amount of champagne she can
drink. She’s always celebrating being alive. Gala is happy picturing how
destroyed that domestica (drink!) must be.
Valentina (bless her heart), asks why they keep calling Luci la
domestica, when she no longer is. Gala says because that’s what she is, that’s
what she’ll go back to being. The only thing she knows how to do is to scrub
(fregar) floors, and pester (fregar) people.
(Oh, Gala. You are so clever.) Julie just wants her to go already, to
her pueblo or to another continent. Valentina, who is living up to the meaning
of her name, bravely points out that they shouldn’t say domestica with such
scorn, because domestic workers are the most important people in a house. Julie
has them toast to that.
Mati calls Estella. Estella reports that Luci told her mom that
she and Rod are postponing the wedding for now.
Mati doesn’t like this one bit. She’s coming to Estella’s that afternoon
because she has to speak with Luci.
Upstairs, Hannah is telling Luci that she is her sister-in-law,
and no matter what, they are family. She begs her not to forget that. Melissa tells
her to think about what they said, and not to lose the opportunity to clear
things up with Rod. Luci says he won’t listen and starts to freak out. Hannah
recommends that she go speak to Padre Honesto who can help calm her down. Luci
thanks them both. Just then, Vio comes in. She starts spoiling for a fight when
she sees H&M, wrongly assuming that they have come to give Luci a hard time
and are taking the b/witches’ side. They ignore her and Melissa tells Luci that
she hopes soon Rod realizes what an amazing woman she is. Melissa hugs her and
Luci bursts into tears. Hannah strokes her hair.
Aldo is in his office/closet on the phone berating the security
desk for not letting his friends Lorenzo and Fabian up to see him. Apparently
he doesn’t have authorization to allow visitors. Aldo angrily calls Oscar who
confirms that he doesn’t have authorization. But isn’t he the manager of
corporate services (glorified office supplies manager)? Oscar says he’ll tell
security to let his friends up.
H&M are outside of Luci’s apartment lamenting the whole
situation. Melissa says men are so reactive/hot-headed (viscerales) and Rod is
no different. Hannah thinks it’s so not cool (mala onda) for Rod to believe
those b/witches over Luci. Neither one of them believes Gala’s story that she didn’t
plan it all and just wants Rod to know the truth. Melissa knows Gala was behind
it all, and says they will prove it to Rod. Hannah doesn’t think it’s fair that
Luci is suffering like this, but Melissa points out that Rod is likely
suffering too (through his own stupidity). “And you know what? We’re going to
see to it that he suffers more.”
Lorenzo tells Aldo about Ivan and Lastra being serious about
having him thrown in jail. Aldo tells him not to worry. He’ll take care of it.
Fabian wants to know how he thinks he’s going to control Lastra. He’s not going
to speak to Lastra. He’s going to speak to the owner of Inferno. Oscar
interrupts and Aldo introduces them. Oscar only stays long enough to tell Aldo
to please wear a tie (corbata). He takes a call from Connie. They make plans to
have lunch.
Luchita is telling the gossip ladies that she is missing Don Aquiles. He’s a manly man, who a woman can’t forget,
like Pedro Armendáriz. (She’s likely talking about P.A. Sr., but it made me
think of P.A. Jr. whom we just lost. RIP
Don Pedro!) The gossip ladies aren’t sold on the comparison, but Luchita says
they don’t know him *intimately* like she does. It hurts her that he’s gone
chasing after his Palomita.
Paz breaks the news of the postponed wedding to Magda, who is
bummed. Paz isn’t worried about that so much, but she has a bad feeling, like a
sadness or anguish deep in her soul. A mother is never wrong. They decide to
put away their wedding dresses so that they don’t get dusty.
Genaro runs into the house after Frigida offering to help her with
the groceries. Instead of thanking him, she berates him for not calling her
Señorita (an understandable error) and for offering too late. Nice guy Genaro
helps her anyway. Connie tells Mati that she won’t be having lunch at home, so
it looks like no one will be there for the meal. Once Frigida is out of
earshot, Connie reminds Mati that they are the only ones who know Rosa’s
secret, and they can’t allow her to hurt Luci. If Rod and Luci break up because
of Rosa, then she’s going to tell Rod and Luci the truth. Mati doesn’t like
hearing this. (Oh, how I wish to slap her.) “We promised.” Connie acknowledges
that they promised to keep quiet about Rosa’s past crime, but that doesn’t mean
they should keep quiet about these new injustices. They can no longer allow it.
Mati doesn’t look convinced.
Luci meets with Padre Honesto in his office and tells him the
wedding is off. She tells him everything—her father’s death, the debt, Don
Aquiles, her flight to D.F. Padre thinks it was destiny that brought her to
D.F., but what does this have to do with breaking up with Rod? Luci continues
to explain about being desperate for work and taking a job she shouldn’t have
at Inferno, Rod defending her without recognizing her, meeting Rod and Pato in
Het Het before, and Lastra’s accusations of theft. “Damn girl. You’ve had
sh*tty luck!” (OK. The good Padre didn’t say it *exactly* like that, but that’s
what he meant.) Luci explains that it was after all of this that she began
working at Casa Torreslanda. Padre asks if she explained all of this to Rod.
Nope. Rosa and Gala took it upon themselves to do so, adding pictures and false
accusations of theft. She swears to the Padre that she never stole anything.
The Padre is not stupid like Rod, so of course he doesn’t believe it, but he
points out to Luci that none of this would have happened had she just been up
front with Rod from the get go. Luci agrees that she didn’t do things as she
should have. Of course Rod walks in right at that moment, just in time to hear
Luci say: “I wasn’t sincere with Rodrigo. I deceived him. (engañar) Now I don’t
know what to do.” Padre hugs her. Rod gets angry all over again. He makes his
presence known by saying good afternoon only to the Padre. He gives Luci an
angry glare.
In Boston (we know it’s the U.S. because some Black actors have
been dropped into the background), Pato, Max and Rosa have lunch. Pato wants to
talk to his siblings. Rosa tells them not to call Hannah, who should be busy in
classes. (More like she will blab about what her mama did.) Max decides to call
Rod instead, and both he and Pato hope that Luci is with him. Rosa stares
coldly into the distance.
Padre Honesto explains to Rod that Luci is telling him how they
met. Rod rudely cuts him off and says he knows the story already. He doesn’t
have time to listen to him right now because he’s in a hurry. Luci wants to
know why he came then. He says to tell the Padre that they are changing the
date of their wedding. Luci pushes him to just tell the Padre the truth-- that
there will be no wedding. They stare daggers at each other. Rod’s phone rings.
Max tells him that Pato is eager to speak to him and Luci. Is she with him? Uhm…Rod
looks over to Luci and says they are with Padre Honesto. Max relays this news
to Pato and Rosa. Rosa’s eyes go wide. (What could be going on in that crazy
brain of hers right now? “Oh crap! Did they make up? Are they telling Padre
what I did? Is Padre telling them what I did long ago?”)
Genaro helps Mati put the groceries away while Frigida bitches at
them, while doing nothing. Mati asks Genaro to take her to her sister’s place. Frigida
thinks that Mati is skiving off while the patrona is away, and surely she is
just going to see Luci to get the gossip. Mati ignores her, takes Genaro’s arm,
and leaves. Frigida is freaked about being left all alone in the house. She
immediately calls Gala to report that Mati went to see Luci. Gala doesn’t give
a flying fig. What she does want Frigida to pay attention to are calls from
Boston, because Pato could sway Rod back to Luci.
H&M go back to the bridal shop and say they have come to buy
the dress Luci tried on, and they want to have it delivered.
At lunch, Julie is ready to plan Gala’s second attempt at a
wedding with Rod. They could have it on a yacht! Gala says she doesn’t want to
pressure Rod; she wants to give him time. Valentina says that’s wise, otherwise
Rod might ditch her at the altar yet again. Gala’s and Julie’s smiles turn
upside down. Valentina wants to know why they’re looking at her like that,
since she’s right. Julies says of course she is NOT right. This time Rod WILL
marry Gala. Gala says she needs to think of a plan to give Rod a little push
(in her direction). Julie is all for planning/plotting. She points out that she
and Gala make a great team. For now, she
offers a champagne toast to Luci and Rod’s failed wedding. Just then, Connie
and Oscar walk in. “Are we interrupting or can we join your celebration?”Julie
tells them to sit. Oscar looks at Connie like he can’t believe she’s gotten
them into this situation.
Paz heads to Don Serapio’s to call Luci and Lorenzo. She hopes to
speak to Lorenzo this time since he is no good at lying to her. Magda goes too, in
hopes of speaking to Vio.
Rod tells Pato that Luci is with him and asks about plans for the
operation. Pato is optimistic. Rod says he will be there first thing in the
morning. “And Luci? Is she coming with you?” Rosa’s eyes go as wide as saucers.
Rod says he hasn’t spoken to Luci about it. Pato wants to speak with her.
Before he hands over the phone, Rod begs Luci not to tell Pato about what’s
going on. Pato tells Luci he would like it so much if she came with Rod. Luci
makes the excuse that she doesn’t have travel papers (passport, visa, etc.).
Pato thinks they can have that taken care of with Max’s contacts in the
embassy. Max is taking mental note and seems to be ready to do what it takes.
Rosa looks like she’s seen a ghost. Luci is flustered and leaves the room to
continue the conversation. She tells Pato that she doesn’t want to cause
trouble with such a complicated process. In all likelihood, she won’t be there
with him, but she promises that she will light a candle for him and pray to the
Virgin for him. Pato says hearing her say this makes him feel more at peace.
Meanwhile, Padre is begging Rod to come back and speak with him
about Luci. That’s why he came, but he doesn’t think it’s the right moment with
Luci here. Padre wants to know if he’s already forgotten the talk they had
about TRUST. Rod says he hasn’t forgotten, but it’s obvious that Luci has. Luci
walks back into the room and gives the phone back to Rod. He continues to speak
to Pato. Luci tells Padre she’ll come back another day. In any case, Rod has
already told him that there will be no wedding. Padre asks her to wait. Luci
rushes out in tears, and for a second it looks like Rod will rush after her.
Pato tells Rod that he’s the luckiest man in the world to have a woman like
Luci at his side. She’ll make him happy the rest of the days of his life. Rosa
gets her crazy eyes. Rod looks guilty.
Avances: Gala and Julie make another plan. Rod tells Pato that Luci lied to them. Paz tells someone on the phone that she's the one Rosa gave the baby to. Rod cries into Luci's wedding dress. Luci faints into H&M's arms.

Amorcito Corazón Discussion #44-53 July 9-13
PSA: Julia the Most Awesome has started a list of
compound words. We will add to it as compounds arise. I took the liberty of adding words for "unibrow."
Now the episode. Things felt a little slow today, but Willy continues to make me laugh.
The big events in a nutshell:
- Horty and Manuela are still clawing at each other. Horty wants Manuela to leave, and Manuela wants to stay. Horty thinks the threat of telling 'Nando about Manuela's involvement in Sofia's death will keep Manuela in line. Manuela thinks there is a flaw in that reasoning. Won't 'Nando get mad a Horty for withholding the truth about Sofia's death?
- I missed a very important conversation between Ceci and Felipe. It seems Felipe has a history with Manuela/has always had the hots for her. What was the bit about the tattoo?
- Cecilio gets Moncho and Juancho freed from jail. There were no fingerprints on the M&Ms, so it couldn't have been their property.
- Babs continues to be a threat. She makes moves on Juancho, but he resists. I think he knows what's going on and is a little creeped out by it (I may be projecting.)
- Sor Ernestina thinks Lucia should leave the habit for a while to get her feelings straight. Willy is over the moon because now he thinks he and Lucia can be together. Lucia doesn't think so. We finally get to see Lucía looking like a knockout. 'Nando asks Lucía to stay at his place while he's in Puerta Vallarta.
- There's a dinner party from hell. Felipe and Zoe invite Isa, 'Nando and Cecilio over to dine...and so Ceci can meet Zoe. Ruh roh. It isn't pretty. Felipe is kept in the dark, but Zoe confesses to Isa that Ceci is her ángel and Ceci confesses to 'Nando that Zoe is his "estupida suicida." Ceci is going to back off. He even tells Felipe he wants to dissolve the partnership (?) and move away from the DF.
- Guillermina makes up stories about robbery(?) She still needs money to keep the PI on the case. She decides to sell a ring and puts Héctor (her lover?) in charge of getting a good price. Ha ha, Héctor sells the ring to Jaibo's woman and then tells Guillermina he was robbed!
- Did I hear correctly? Did Manuela actually tell Marifer that the asthma was all in her head????? Seriously dangerous.
- 'Nando overhears a phone conversation and flips his lid. (He really needs to chill.) Marisol enlists her little sisters' help in seeing Juancho. While the family and Mine are away, Juancho comes to call and they start making out pretty heavily....and Isa walks in.
Other entertainments:
- Sarita is not happy about the trip to Puerta Vallarta and is not talking to Isa....sort of.
- Leo continues to feel like crap. His doctor is going to adjust his meds.
- Reina and Jazmin have a conversation and get snippy with Willy and I think I missed a William Levy joke. The two pregnant ladies are very sweet to Lucía and bring her clothes.
- Padre Tio punches Willy and tells him to leave Lucia alone.
- Suzy is crushing on Felipe.
