Yo Amo a Juan – January 25, 2008 – In which Susana Gives Juan a Pumpkin -- Trick or Treat!*

Disclaimer: I am totally responsible for typos, grammar errors, etc. and welcome translation help from everyone! Let the show begin…..

It wouldn’t be Juan if we didn’t have a review every night. Are they planning on giving us a pop quiz some day?

So, our first review is César Luis screaming at Pastor about the computer crash in his office with all the lobby lizards totally engrossed through the not-so-blinds. CL’s gonna hurt Pastor if that inept (Delirio) doesn’t give him a guarantee on CL’s equipment. Delirio cowers at the desk, with the computer still in “SYSTEM FAILURE” mode. CL wants to know what fool [okay, my addition] ordered that this program be installed? Pastor hesitatingly advises CL that ….HE did. Well why did you let me do that? He screams at Pastor, turning six shades of purple. Why were they paying any attention to him? Two days ago the computer was working just fine. There is info he just cannot afford to lose on it. He threatens Delirio and Pastor- if he loses information, they’re dead men. Pastor dives over the desk at Delirio while Monica screams for them to stop.

Juan is happy with how things are going on the anthurium ranch, and discusses details with one of the workers. The worker carries a pot of big, lovely, multi-colored anthuriums. They’re going to look at the technology that will regulate the humidity for the plants, to keep them looking good and the color perfect. Along the side of a big, new greenhouse Susana walks along the rail with beautiful countryside in the background. We hear Juan telling the fellow it’s important that they don’t deteriorate. Susana is fetching in a very demure, yet appealing, orange sleeveless top and trim brown slim-leg slacks. Paula could use lessons from Susi. Juan wraps up the plant discussion and thought bubbles that there goes his new torment. He catches up with her. He continues his thought bubble about how she walks like a leaf in the wind, with a movement that would give goose bumps to anyone. It’s said that love is born on sight, and strengthens through the years. Juan puts his arms around her, turns her and gives Susi a kiss that would knock most women to their knees. [Sigh]. Could it be that he could live forever, fastened to those lips? Juan greets her and Susi wants to know if he missed her. Always! She thought Juan was going to stay all night with her. He excuses himself; he had to take Juanito to school. Susana tells him that’s okay, they’ll have lots of nights to sleep together and hold each other all night. Juan thought bubbles: this was the sign he was hoping for. He asks Susana if for real she would like to sleep with him every night? She smiles broadly and tells him nothing would please her more. Juan kisses her again and she STILL manages not to collapse. “Susana, would you like to marry me?” Susana is impactada and uncomfortable. She tells him she’d love to share her life with him, but she can’t accept his proposal. Huh? “Look, Juan. What happened last night was marvelous. The most marvelous experience I’ve had in my life. No one has made me feel like you. You know how to treat a woman.” Juan thought bubbles: well, there you have what makes one so precious. [Ed. Note: this was tough, and I probably got it wrong, corrections welcome.] Susana continues, “In other words, it’s a night I’ll never forget.” Juan thought bubbles: that makes two of us. Susana tells him that he’s a man with whom any woman could fall in love and give up everything and throw herself into the affair. This gets Juan’s attention. What affair? He wants to offer her something firm, form a family, have a little house, have lots of kids---Juanito’s just the first. She tells him he can’t do it. He’ll never fall in love with her. Juan’s impactado; she can’t tell him that. He swears that……Susana interrupts him. He’s still in love with that woman. Paula Dávila. Juan is speechless and somber.

Delirio is doing serious damage control. He isn’t getting Gutis, but will leave a message, he informs them all (recadito). Delirio leaves a lengthy, and wordy, message demanding that Gutis get his okole in there post haste and fix this serious mess. [Ed. Note: I am forever reminding my hubby that I HATE messages on my machine that go more than a few seconds. I hate listening to them, hate replaying them to get to the number that the caller inevitably leaves too fast at the end of the message so I couldn’t get it all down the first time, just HATE them. Delirio was already on my list, this cements it. He’s bottom of the list.] CL breaks in while Delirio’s talking to the phone. “Tell him, that you’re a pair of imbeciles!” Moni protests that he needs to calm down. Delirio continues with his sermon/scolding/message. He wants drastic action, RIGHT now, he tells Gutis’ machine as he finally concludes and hangs up. Pastor wants to know what they do if he doesn’t show? Delirio, who can’t say anything in less than 3,000 words, tells them he humbly proposes they go look for Gutis immediately…if they don’t have anything else for him to do (if they don’t order any other thing). His voice verges on hysteria and he slinks as if to run. CL shakes a finger at him and tells Delirio that he proposes Delirio get the heck out of his sight, far away. Now. Delirio excuses himself and bows with his arm at his waist while CL keeps yelling “Out! Out!” and Moni tries to get CL to calm down. [How they are all keeping straight faces at Delirio is beyond me.] He disappears out the door. CL slams his water glass down on the desk and glares at a very nervous Pastor.

Juan protests to Susana that Paula remains in the past. For always. Susana firmly responds that’s not so. This woman is still present, she realized yesterday. Juan’s face falls and continues to fall as she speaks without any rancor. She points out that last night in bed, it was all surface despite the heat. There wasn’t love there. She doesn’t know what to call the flames between them, passion, caring, friendship, desire, all that mixed together. Maybe they were both feeling the lonely urges of affection, that you find for a moment and make magic. Susana doesn’t know, but on one thing she’s clear. Marriage without love for both of them would be a lie. That’s why she can’t accept his proposal. Juan tells her he wants to make her happy. She points out that he makes her happy, but there are some things he cannot change. But, he continues, he’s trying! She tells him he’s taking out one nail with another (forgetting the old love with a new one). Who’s he trying to fool? He can’t compel his heart to love someone, no matter how lovely or nice the person is. She’s not reproaching him. She just doesn’t want to ruin what could be an incredible friendship between them. What, Juan wants to know, then he won’t be able to kiss those divine lips again? Susana chuckles a little. What, he won’t be able to caress her lovely skin? No, not even because he fascinates her so much and is the best man in the whole world. Juan, always pragmatic, thought bubbles his agreement: render unto God what is God’s, and unto Juan what is Juan’s. [Ed. Note: he apparently learned his catechism but it’s sort of morphed over the years. It used to be “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s.] Susana tells him that in time they’ll both come to appreciate having made this decision. Juan thought bubbles “Both? But you didn’t give me a chance.” She continues that from now on they’ll be friends, the best of friends. Juan thought bubbles in mourning about this turn of events—he’s barely holding himself in check from grabbing her body which give him so much pleasure-- and looks plenty distressed. He stammers around and asks if there isn’t some way….what they’ve begun….they could be “Friends with Rights,” as it’s called, and then she might realize…..? He leans in with his lips poised for a kiss. She chuckles again…no. Juan continues to negotiate, some kisses….no! But she’s going to give him something better than that, some good advice. He doesn’t want advice. How can that compare with this woman’s skin? She tells him to fight for this love he has for Paula. Do what he has to. If he doesn’t, Paula will always be there, nailed in his heart. He protests that he’s already tried to fight; she has no idea how Juan tried to conquer Paula. Susana points out that maybe the time wasn’t right. Maybe he has to leave her to live what she has to live first. But, now he has a new opportunity. The worst thing he can do is try to erase her memory in the illusion (espejismo) of some other woman. Juan looks very somber, indeed. This is not going how he thought it would.

Paula sits on the steps at Ana’s, waiting for the door to open so she can tell her Mami they have to talk. Ana gives her that look. If she’s going to insist they keep that business…. Paula promises that she’s sufficiently clear on Ana’s thoughts, and as usual, and to Paula’s misfortune, Ana’s right. Ana informs her that since the morning she’ll looking for work, and promoting her paintings. Ana just wants confirmation; the business is cancelled definitely?? Paula asks for her forgiveness instead of confirming it. Ana shrugs and smiles a little sadly. What can she do. She’s Paula’s Mami. Please, Paula whines, the last thing she wants to do is stay like this, fighting. Ultimately, they’ve already quarreled enough. Ana points out that for 20 years they’ve been arguing about one thing or another. Paula tells Ana that the only thing she needs is a hug, and they hug. Ana chuckles and smiles. “What’s wrong?” Paula replies that she feels like she’s losing the one secure thing in her life. Every day she’s losing ground with CL and Monica is gaining it. Ana thinks it’s clear that Paula’s repeating the same history that happened with Monica and CL. But, it’s the wrong way (al revés). And Ana doesn’t want to remind her how that ended. Paula whines that now Ana’s left her even more worried. Ana’s sorry, but she’s telling Paula so she can stay alert, do what she has to do, and not fool herself. Her marriage is going to depend a lot on how she handles this situation. Paula is irritated and worried.

Moni and Laura discuss the business that’s folded. Are you sure? Yep, seems to me. Ana Dávila was hysterical. [Ed. Note: I don’t know where YOU were, Laura, but Ana NEVER gets hysterical. Very firm, yes, sometimes close to shrewish, but never, EVER hysterical.] Laura reports on how it folded in part because Paula wants to go back to work at Farell. Moni thinks Paula is more unstable than she thought. Laura points out that in the long run, Monica has lost her inside track in Ana’s house. But it might not be such a loss, since she’s going to have Paula up close and personal (in living color) at the office. Monica vows that she has the rest of her life to put a stop to this marriage. Her jaw is squared; she’s determined. We break to commercial with Moni smiling like the Cheshire Cat.

Fern comes to Marely’s desk and pulls her out to ask qué the heck’s happening in CL’s office, with Perafán, Pastor, Monica and CL all closeted (encerrados) in there. Lobby lizards motion behind him to the tête-à-tête. Marely comments on Perafán’s face when he emerged, which was white like pambazo [for which I found a bit of definition that really made me drool on my keyboard—that’s for you, Judy B -- “… there's the pambazo, which is a special bread (white bread with a crust) dipped in a red guajillo pepper sauce and filled with something like potatoes and Mexican sausage or refried beans and then is garnished with shredded lettuce, salsa, cream and queso fresco.”]

What’s more, Fern wants to know why Monica left. Marely doesn’t know; she took one of those mysterious private calls. She left with a face of tragedy. What about Don Pastor? Fern chuckles a little—even the hairs on his toupee were standing on end. Ivonne tries to overhear the conversation from behind him.

Gutis is chastising Delirio – who told him to get into business with someone of such bad reputation? Delirio is astonished – qué the heck is he saying? Gutis says he was always clear, and told Delirio that Manzano wasn’t exactly a model citizen. Perafán indignantly points out that Gutis himself recommended Manny. Nope, Gutis smarmily denies, he just introduced the guy, but that’s not the same. He brushes off Delirio’s shoulders and smiles. But, he continues, Manny always gave Gutis himself a bad feeling (bad spine or suspicion). Perafán retorts that all Gutis did was pressure him, and pressure him…and tell him he couldn’t lose this business. Gutis points out that they’ve not seen a cent. Perafán doesn’t give a rip about that—his head is on the chopping block (es mi cabeza la que está de por medio).

CL, still in his office lecturing Pastor, doesn’t give a rip about how it gets done, but he wants this imbecility resolved by tomorrow, or Pastor is the first one who’ll be far away from here. Pastor asks him to please calm down, and he’s asking for CL’s own good. CL declares that no inefficient nobody, and thick-headed (bestia, one loose definition) is coming to tell him how to behave. Pastor, to his credit, remains cool. He tells CL he’s pale, and need to think of his health. He continues and CL cuts him off. Enough already. He says it’s nonsense that he’s sick. Pastor, in the true spirit of helping, dares to suggest to him to go rest. CL doesn’t snap at him, but makes an offhand remark about having plenty of time to do that when tomorrow he has an operation. Pastor seizes on it and CL denies he used the word “operation.” Nope, a CHECK-UP. That’s it, not operation, my CHECK-UP, I misspoke. Pastor tells CL no, I know what I heard, you said OPERATION. CL faces off, jaw squared as he looks up at Pastor – surely you misheard me, Gaitán. I said CHECK-UP. Why would I say operation? What they’re doing to me is a CHECK-UP. That’s it. Pastor repeats what he HEARD, talking like he would to a child. CL gets up, tired of this game. He scolds Pastor, who asks pardon for himself. CL makes a snide remark to deflect the operation issue; he’s getting out of here before the deaf and dumb (stupid) director of personnel provokes him to do something. He directs Pastor that he’s in charge in CL’s absence—[I think].

Juan is not happy, though he’s in his lovely, clean office chatting with Molo. He tells Molo it’s incredible. Molo has been his witness that he’s had to escape women who wanted him for most of his life, and now that he wants to marry one, she’s brushing him off to fry asparagus???? [Ed. Note: some of us adore fried asparagus, but apparently to Juan this is not a Good Thing. Or, it’s a dicho with a very unique meaning. News update: after JudyB read it, she informed me that sending someone to fry asparagus is telling him/her to get lost. It's not a Good Thing for Juan and it's a unique dicho. Mandar a algn freir esparragos.] Molo wants to know what it was that Susana told him, and about their falling out. She realized that he’s still stuck on Paula. Juan, in frustration, explains it’s one of those things. Not only couldn’t he marry Paula, he can’t seem to marry anyone on account of her. ¡No hay derecho! it's not fair! Juan wants to know if he’s supposed to end up dressed like a monk, or what (captions were wrong on monk – it said “movío”). Molo makes light “Friar Juan Dominguez!” Molo doesn’t think so. The day that happens, he’s going to eat his guitar and all the strings. How does he like that? Juan is bemused at the idea. Nope, Molo continues, it’s not that, he just moved too fast. Juan agrees sadly, and what a shame for him and Juanito. Molo tells him that what he needs to do is show that he has forgotten the other and can love Susana with his entire soul. Juan knows, but at the moment, he can’t think about it any more. He’s confused (hecho camotes – made sweet potatoes, from my Diccionario bilingue de Mexicanismos by Hamel). Juan tells Molo he’d rather talk about Molo—how’d he end up with that goofy Don Aldemar? Better than he expected (pretty well), Molo tells Juan. Don A accepted him as fiancée for Herl and at least he can make his little fight for her. And it’s all thanks to Juan. Juan protests that he’s just been an obstacle to the two of them. Molo tells him no, thanks to Juan he finally has an opportunity with the woman of his dreams. Today, Molo is SOMEONE in this town. Juan corrects him; Molo has ALWAYS been someone in this town. More importantly, he’s been the singer and the town crier for the area (pregonero), the one who gives all the news and in verses. (The one who tells the story of the region and keeps it alive, implied). He is the soul of this place. Molo looks pleased and humbled by this praise. Molo shrugs that the soul isn’t going to pay for a wedding. And even less if it’s for the daughter of Don Aldemar. He swears that he’ll never be able to repay this debt to Juan. Juan jumps up. Molo’s in love with Herlinda and has forgotten about Juan. He tells Molo to just love Herlinda, and Juan himself will be well paid. Molo thanks him with a heartfelt sigh, high fives, a hug and handshake.

Far away in the D. F., Marely is remarking to Yadi on the mysteries and vagaries of their step-Papi (padrastro). Marely says it’s going to be nothing good, as they eat a delicious looking dinner. They talk briefly about that gloomy old man’s situation in Farell, which isn’t looking so great from Marely’s viewpoint. The topic abruptly changes; what’s Mami going to say when she finds out. Speaking of the Queen of Rome, Yadi tells her, she’s been missing all day, no call, no nothing. Marely is alarmed. What if something’s happened to her? What if she’s lost? Yadi scoffs that she’s been lost for years, it’s her habit now to do a disappearing act. Marely pictures her lost, alone, not remembering where she lives, hungry and cold, on a street someplace…..

Catchy disco music blares and we find that the prodigal Mami is dancing the night away with her galán Don Angarita. Her sparkly cap catches the disco lights and glitters as they smile broadly at each other and twirl.

Paula packs a small suitcase, and CL wonders what the heck that’s about. He’s having an operation, not going on vacation. He won’t need much. Paula wants him to be comfortable, since he’ll be there a few days. Would he like to check what’s in there? No, CL trusts her. CL is dejected and twitchy. Paula drops the packing and goes to comfort him, telling him to calm down. He just can’t believe it’s happening to him. He feels his life is ready to collapse and there’s nothing he can do. Paula reassures him it’ll be fine and tells him he needs to rest. She caresses him comfortingly as he looks very grim.

Delfi has cooked a marvelous meal. Enfrijoladas de campeonato – incredible enfrijoladas (from an Oaxaca restaurant review online “an enfrijolada, a classic Oaxacan dish…. simple but stupendous: nothing more than homemade corn tortillas awash in black bean sauce served with tasajo, salt-cured thin-cut flank steak. But the trick is in fine touches, such as wild avocado leaves boiled with the beans. That, and a thousand years of practice.”). Juan thanks her as she babbles on and finally goes out to the kitchen. Juanito wants to know if he’s going out with Susana. Juan explains that they broke up. He tells Juanito she gave him a pumpkin- me dieron calabaza, she gave me the brush off, jilted me (dar calabaza or also calabacear, give someone the brush off, give a pumpkin or gourd made into a verb). Juanito is disgusted; of course! He doesn’t like pumpkins, they’re gross (horrible). He wants to know what that has to do with them not being sweethearts any more. Juan attempts to explain without too many details, sadly. Juanito cheers his Papi up; happen what may, I will ALWAYS love you. Even if you give me pumpkins and force me to eat them. He goes to hug Juan, who hugs and hold Juanito on his lap lovingly.

The gloomy old man (viejo mustio, with a nod to Yadi who called him that) [Ed. Note: I remember when I was very young and reading Winnie the Pooh, my mother once told my father, who was being pessimistic one evening, not to be an Eeyore. Dad asked who Eeyore was and she, who never uttered a bad word in her life, retorted that Eeyore was a gloomy old a**. Now that Yadi has called him a gloomy old man, I will think of Eeyore every time.] paces in front of the mantel complaining to the rest of the family seated there, true martyr style, about how when he needs a loving, understanding wife the most, his wife is not at his side. Where the heck is she? Kike begins to fidget. He knows where she is. Yadi says she’s not a witch that she can guess that just today he’d get into a mess. Delirio retorts he’s not in a mess, he’s a victim of the conspiracy. The girls scoff. Kike makes weird hand signals at the girls behind Delirio, who continues to complain about where Nidia might be and this is the last straw. Marely chides him about always thinking the worst of her mother. Yadi thinks he should be grateful that her Mami hasn’t found out yet about his recent mess. Delirio pontificates about his terrible situation and scolding them for thinking he might somehow be responsible for his own problem, while Kike makes Very Weird Gestures behind him. The girls are glued to the Very Weird Gestures. Who knows what they really heard of this sermon from the gloomy old guy.

Angarita and Nidia have taken a short break from whooping it up. He wonders if she isn’t going to go home? Nope, she doesn’t want to, just to listen to the tedious refrain (cantaleta) of Delirio. [Ed. Note: she’s a mind-reader.] He tells her no one will make her go, but maybe she should phone home. Nidia agrees to do that, and goes off to call, telling him not to move. She gives him a sensual little kiss and shakes her booty, while he sweats hard. What a WOMAN! Anga shakes his head, his eyes glazed over, and tosses back a quick tequilita.

The phone rings at Casa Cachón—any bets on who will get there first? Four bodies dive for it and Yadi is quickest. She doesn’t even ask or say hello. “Mama?” Yes….Yadi wants to know where she is. Nidia lays the biggest guilt trip since forever on her. It’s not important, don’t wait up for me. Kike plays with some knick-knack back in the corner while the other three hover near the phone. Nidia continues that she’ll be anywhere, where her presence won’t bother anyone. [Hear the martyrdom dripping from her voice?] Yadi begs her not to think anyone wants her out of her house. Nidia continues that she’s doing it so Yadi and Kike won’t have to look for a roof over their heads, hablablablabla. She wants Nidia Michaela to stay in that house. Someday she’ll remember her grandma fondly, that Nidia left her something more than her bad example. [Ed. Note: Sheesh]. Yadi wonders why she’s abandoning them. Delirio is alarmed. Nidia says its best for everyone……and hangs up. Yadi yells for her not to hang up and then sadly informs the family. “She hung up.” Kike hides behind the goofy knick-knack. He knows who she’s with and has an idea what she’s up to.

Nidia informs Anga she’s ready; from this second, she’s a liberated woman! What’s he going to do with her? What hits his fancy? Anga may hyperventilate. “Look!” She strokes her body. “I’m all yours.” Anga is definitely going to hyperventilate.

Yadi is wailing that her Mama has abandoned them. They’re all sitting around, mourning. Delirio is upset that she’s abandoned them just when they really needed her. Pragmatic Marely wants to know where she is and who she’s with, did she say? Any clue (pista)? Kike tries to reassure them she’ll show up, before the rooster sings. Yadi fusses at him; he’s happy because he finally got what he wants. Kike beams smugly. She yells that he’s a monster! “Moi?” [Captions say “¿muá?”] Yadi fusses on about him bothering her mother. Marely wants to know if that’s true and he can’t believe she believes it. Delirio gets in the act; is Kike harassing Delirio’s wife-if so, he’s going to know the ire of a Perafán Francisco de Rocha. Kike is flabbergasted. And irritated. He tells them NO, he isn’t to blame for her goofiness. That’s all he needed. The only thing he did was inform her of their decision to find their own home. But, the Sra. was offended so he ended up the scapegoat (chivo expiatorio - scapegoat). Yadi cries that he made her feel like an awful grandmother. Is he going to deny it? Kike stammers, no, but um…it wasn’t exactly like that. Doña Nidia turned things around and made it seem like….Marely interrupts. She didn’t ever think he was capable of something like that. Delirio thinks he should be ashamed. He shouldn’t have two last names like Bueno (good) and Lindo (lovely), neither of which he is. Delirio shakes his finger at Kike, who is now being reduced to rubble by everyone. Kike starts to swear…but is interrupted by Yadi who tells him not to swear. He’ll be blaspheming. Delirio threatens that if anything happens to Nidia, Kike won’t be able to pay him in this life or the next for it! Kike is impactado-distressed.

Juan muses to himself as he rests in his hammock and Juanito’s sweet face peeks out from the covers as he sleeps peacefully next to his Papi. Juan tells himself that in one moment Susana was a lifesaver in the middle of the stormy ocean, then he batted well and nicely (gave it his best shot?), and to be legal about it, he deserved the home run that he imposed on himself (he got what he deserved).

Back at Casa Cachón, the gloomy old man continues his self-pity party about his wife’s departure. It’s the greatest sadness he’s ever known. She’s really maltreated him. Over his shoulder we see the semi-nude reclining relief sculpture of a female…..Sheesh. Marely tries to get him to see it differently. Nidia’s going to show up any second. He mourns that the bad thing is, who knows if he’ll still be alive by then, by the time she crosses that threshold.

In the Bueno Lindo family’s little orange room, made smaller by a crib and baby gear, the Bueno Lindo family is fussy. Not the baby, you understand, the adults are fussy. “Go ahead, sleep!” Yadi fusses at Kike. That’s what he was trying to do. His conscience is peaceful? Yep, very peaceful, thanks. While you’re there so peaceful, you egotist, where’s my mother? Like a chick abandoned at a bazaar (kermesse)! She babbles on about the awful things that surely are happening to Nidia; cold, abandoned, etc. He gives up and gets up. Enough already! I was good! “Your mother is not in any type of martyrdom!” He says he knows where she is. Yadi wants to know what hogwash this is. He tells her he was sworn to secrecy by none other than Nidia, but he’s going to tell Yadi because otherwise she’s not going to leave him in peace all night: Nidia is with her galán--in singular happiness—in the arms of Don Angarita Calvo! Yadi gasps.

Marely is still stuck with the gloomy old man. She tells him not to suffer for her mother any more, but better he should think about this matter with the computers. He thought the subject was closed. How could it be closed if it’s getting bigger all the time? Why not tell me what happened, she suggests. Then we can find some way to find a solution. She wants to know the facts. Delirio touches her cheek, almost fondly. What are you, my lawyer, or what? She scowls a little, then smiles encouragingly. C’mon, tell me. How is it that you wiped out all the info on the boss’s computer? That’s what they told you? Ah, how folks report news to suit them. Then, it wasn’t like that, she asks. Of course not. When Gaitán took him up to the Prez’ office, the computer wasn’t booting up (arrancar, boot up, one of millions of definitions. Okay, I’m exaggerating.) Not forward, not backward, the keys weren’t moving. (Teclas – keys). Marely wants to know why they called him; he’s not a techhie. Delirio explains that the traitor Gutis, and the deserter Manny and Delirio himself sold the programs. Marely didn’t know. He points out they’ve both disappeared. He lets it slip they the programs might be pirated. Marely is IMPACTADA!!!

Gutis is enjoying a quiet night at home with the tele and his jammies. Beer bottles and food litter the coffee table. The door knocker insistently sounds off and Gutis asks who it is several times before he tears himself away from his entertainment to answer. Two guys flash badges. They have some questions. Nervously, he tells them to come in and pardon the disorder, the girl just left. [Sheesh.] They want to know what he knows about Manuel Manzano. Gutis finds about three ways to deny ever hearing the name. Could be a neighbor? Look, it may be dirty but there are no cockroaches or rats here. [Ed. Note: no mirrors, either, or he’d see both a cockroach and a rat.] The cops are Not Amused. Sure he doesn’t know that man? Gutis assures them he’s never heard the name in his life.

Kike is still telling Yadi about her “boss,” Nidia. Nidia compelled him to take her to the city market with him why? So she could see Don A. Yadi is very anxious about this new info. Really? Yep. Her mother is probably dying of laughter at the moment because she’s got them all fighting here at home. Yadi denies that her mother is capable of something like that. Kike assures her Nidia IS capable. Yadi hyperventilates. There’s a lot of that going around. She wonders what they should do. Nothing, Kike tells her. Yadi isn’t happy with that. She wants Anga’s phone number. Kike thanks God he doesn’t have it, and if he did, he wouldn’t give it up anyway. He doesn’t want to mess in Anga’s life. Yadi reminds him they’re talking about HER mother. Kike reminds her they’re talking about HIS BOSS! He’s not risking Anga throwing him out on the street. Her mother will show up when her wiring is working right again. We hear the cuckoo clock again, and Yadi simmers.

Marely is incensed with Delirio. It’s a CRIME! How could he get into such a dirty business? You, who are a LAWYER, and knows about the exposure! Well, he has to make the best of it now, he says with resignation. (a lo hecho, pecho we must make the best of it now). Gutis had convinced him it would be absolutely no problem. Marely exclaims “what an absurd explanation!” “Well, it’s the only one I have.” This is bad, Lic, she tells him, you could end up in jail. What will we do now? He admits that’s his question, too. Gutis, his ex friend, has thrown in the towel. And Manny’s not even going to appear at a séance (en una sesión de espiritismo – a spiritualism session). [Marely bites her cheek so she won’t crack up on screen.] What’s more, he’s not even sure that’s his real name. Marely tells him if he wants some good advice, tomorrow early he’ll go to talk to CL and tell him the truth. How can she think that? It’d be suicidal! But, she continues, it’s the best thing he can do! Denounce those two! Or, he can end up paying for the damage. Delirio sighs in resignation.

Fern seems to be the only executive type in the lobby when the cops show up at Farell. He greets them. They want the Prez, but he’s not here. How about some other legal representative? They flash the badges. It’s of some importance. Nope, no one here. Fern asks what he might do to help. They need to inspect the computers. They have info that supposedly there are pirated programs here. [Ed. Note: What? Did Manny set them up? Was he a PLANT???] Fern is MUY but MUY impactado.

At the Hospital of the South, with 24 hour urgent care, CL is checking in with Paula at his side. The nurse thought he’d changed his mind, he’s so late. Moni’s cheery voice asks them what’s up? CL bites his lip and turns to her. Paula looks muy, but muy irritated and rolls her eyes as Moni greets her cheerily. CL notes That Look. Moni is the Picture of Innocence and Helpfulness.

Fern is filling Pastor in on the details, of course, in Pastor’s office where we get a great glimpse of Juan’s assets. Well, most of them. Fern is trying to reassure Pastor that this visit of the po--- leece is routine (Think Southern Pronunciation here). Pastor doesn’t think so. Don’t tell me that these police don’t have faces like dogs that track. Well, yeah, they do. But everything’s in order, right, why worry? If one doesn’t have debts, one isn’t afraid. Pastor thinks so. He’s worried about what Delirio’s done, though. Fern tells him they just have to wait for the inspection, and see what happens. Pastor is doubtful. It smells like trouble to him, very serious trouble. Ivonne bubbles in cheerily. Pastor orders her to shut the door. She wants to know what’s up outside. Who are those guys with the look of bad friends? Pastor tells her they’re her to inspect the computers. Ivonne is relieved, it’s about time they were fixed. Pastor tells her to use her brain. They’re POLICE! They think we have pirated programs! Us? Why? Fern explains it’s because they are inspecting all the businesses that operate using software like Farell uses. Pastor fires off a series of orders to Ivonne; he wants her to find Perafán and those guys who sold them the programs, get the paperwork that verifies that all the programs they have acquired are legit programs, etc. Fern asks if they shouldn’t notify CL? Nope, Pastor says, he’s got enough on his mind. Pastor hurries Ivonne out to begin to find that useless Perafán…..he’s worried.

Moni is all solicitation and caring. She asks how CL feels. He’s dying of nerves. Did he sleep last night? Paula interrupts that he slept like a lamb (divinely). They had a wonderful night, massages and all before they went to bed, and he slept. He faces Paula and says if not for Paula, he is sure he wouldn’t have been able to close his eyes. Moni is a little annoyed. Okay, that’s good, the advantages of a good wife. CL diverts them back to the topic at hand; the registration and all these preliminaries that seem to take an eternity. He makes no eye contact with either of his women, though Paula still holds his hand. Moni encourages him to be patient; all this will be behind him tomorrow. Can she help register him? Paula tells her no, thanks. They’re good. Moni says she has some pull here. No, THANKS! Paula is insistent, too. She puts her arms around CL to mark her territory, and thanks Moni for her solicitous help. Moni tells them she’ll just wait—over there. Paula advises her it’s not necessary, surely Moni has lots to do in the office, right? Moni tells her it’s not important, work can wait. She’d just as soon hang out to see what happens. [In other words, she has a death wish of her own.] Paula turns CL, who has been very quiet, around to register and he rests his head on his hand, elbow on the counter.

Ivonne wants to know who’s calling her. Surprise, it’s Marely answering the phone in her own house, where Ivonne has called nervously looking for Delirio. Marely gestures to him to be quiet. What’s up, Marely wants to know, we were just leaving for the office. Ivonne fills her in that two police guys are here and Delirio needs to get his sorry okole in there Right Now because he and his buddies installed the software on the computers the cops are asking about. Marely will give him the message. She hangs up and tells Delirio – the office needs you in there with the highest urgency. Why? Seems there are problems, and Very, but VERY serious. Delirio is impactado, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why. It’s not like he couldn’t have seen it coming or anything. He moans and puts his head on his hand, elbow on the table. There’s a lot of that going around.

Nidia, still dressed in her fetching dancing outfit, knocks on Ana’s door early. Nidia humbly asks for Ana’s pardon for showing up like this, by surprise and looking like this (en esas fachas- in these slovenly clothes). Ana says not to worry, but she looks worried. It is, after all, highly irregular. She asks if she can offer Nidia anything, and all Nidia wants is a little tequila. Ana basically ignores that and says she was referring to a coffee or a little tea. Given those options, Nidia’s good, nothing thanks. Nidia awkwardly stumbles on; Ana might be asking why she’s here like this, in such strange circumstances. Ana says she can’t deny that. Nidia can’t, just can’t go home. Ana listens and says not a word, but her face tells all. She is worried, exasperated, and a whole host of other things, while Nidia tells how she didn’t go home to sleep, and had to invent a little lie. Ana is the only one who can help Nidia.

Marely has apparently marched Delirio into the study and is lecturing him about the police in the office. She has assumed the position behind the desk. If the police are there, it’s because they’ve found out something. And they won’t stop until they’ve nailed the responsible ones for those pirated programs. There’s just no other option than to go in and to be…… he interrupts, to be what? Not to be involved in problems that are even MORE serious [like becoming a fugitive?] where no human being can get you out!

Outside in the hall, the Bueno Lindos are glued to the door. Yadi wonders what they’re saying. Kike shushes her—nothing. She tells him to pay attention. He hushes her again, more loudly. He can’t hear anything, and even less so when she is talking. She smacks him and fusses, disgusted.

Ana eyes Nidia warily and wonders if it isn’t pretty radical to leave her home? She suggests that Nidia could just divorce Delirio and live her life. Nidia can’t, she tells Ana. If she stays in that house she’d going to wither away (marchitar). She’ll be like a raisin (uva pasa - raisin) in less time than it takes for a rooster to crow. She really needs to take advantage of her “memory loss” to start from scratch (para empezar de cero). She’s going to dump this little problem and be born again (nacer por segunda vez). Nidia beams at her brilliance in finding a creative solution, which is thoroughly confusing to anyone else who is listening to her. Ana smiles a little and listens while Nidia talks about her desire to live without limitations (ataduras), without commitments, to be FREE! Ana says fine, but what I don’t understand is what I have to do with this, how can I help? Nidia drops the bombshell; she needs a place to live. Ana’s light bulb flips on: “here?” Sure, Nidia tells her, beaming, she’ll come and live with Ana. She’ll share costs, of course, not to worry. Think about how well we’ll get on together! It’ll be splendid! Ana is impactada. Splendid? NOT.

Juan strolls down the narrow street in Achichipico near the hotel. He muses that Molondrón may not be so far off the mark, and Susana’s rejection is just a test for Juan. Maybe what she’s looking for is for Juan to show that he can forget it all and begin to live for her. He freezes on the street and a couple of passers-by look him over—[because he’s goofy and not quite in this world, or because he’s adorable? We’ll never know for sure]. He stands and flaps his hands up and down in the American Sign Language “maybe” sign—or darn close to it—weighing his options.

Somehow Monica has wormed her way into CL’s hospital room, where Paula is hovering protectively over him, holding his hand. CL has on a frown and his hospital gown, lying on the bed awaiting his fate. Ivonne still hasn’t gotten him out of jail free. A nurse comes to start his IV (canalizar??). [Ed. Note: Ferro would be disappointed; this nurse doesn’t look a thing like the telenovela nurses we’re used to—Floralina and Nurse Susy from Duelo de Estupidos]. The nurse is also going to take samples (muestras). She has a handful of medical stuff. Paula tells her WE’ll wait in the waiting room (salita is a waiting room?). Paula is obviously including Monica in that WE. She touches CL’s face and his frown gets deeper. Paula leaves and Monica trails after her, looking longingly back at CL. The nurse preps her gear.

Just outside CL’s room, Paula waits as Monica closes the door, looking back at CL still. Paula goes right on the attack. “Thanks a Bunch for Your Kind Company, but, you can go now because the show’s over.” Moni, the total picture of innocence, replies that perhaps that’s Paula’s thing, because for Moni it’s not a show. And it seems to Monica that’s EXACTLY what Paula’s doing. She walks away from Paula, who grabs Monica’s arm and spins Monica around to face her. “What IS it that you’re intending to do, Monica?” “What are we talking about?” Monica inquires snippily. Paula launches in again. Nobody asked Monica to come, and there’s nothing for her to do here. What’s more, Monica’s presence ends up making everyone uncomfortable. Monica retorts mildly it doesn’t seem like that to her; CL appears more calm when he knows she’s there. What’s more, Monica doesn’t think Paula is the best person to decide who should come and who shouldn’t come. Paula throws out the biggest spear. “I’m his wife and you? You’re nobody in CL’s life.” Monica sighs in feigned exasperation, and points out she’s his friend and business partner. And what a shame that Paula is a woman so insecure that she can’t understand that. Gee, this seems a little like you’re afraid I might take him away from you, huh? Monica feigns a smile as she delivers this blow. Paula feigns a smile in return and says look at that! Finally we learn what your real intentions are! Monica tells Paula that CL doesn’t interest her as a man now. Paula tells Monica she can say that, but her actions tell a different story. Moni tells Paula they aren’t the same. Monica is not accustomed to swimming in the same mud as Paula is. Paula tells her to shut up, she’s tired of Monica’s games. She’s tired of the role Mónica is playing of the inoffensive, innocent woman. She’s not that at all, she’s a hypocrite. Monica wants to know how Paula dares to insult her? Paula points out since Monica has not once ceased to interfere in her life with CL. Isn’t it about time Monica realized Paula and CL are husband and wife? That they have a marriage in which there is no place for Monica, not as a friend, not as anything? Moni retorts “Look who’s talking! A woman who thought nothing of meddling in the life of a married man! To whom it didn’t matter that she was destroying a marriage of many years!” Paula retorts that CL didn’t really love Monica. Monica feigns pity for Paula. Is that excuse what she learned from her mother’s example? Had she learned those tricks for taking away a husband? Paula lunges at Monica to slap her silly, but Moni’s hand is faster than Paula’s and Moni blocks her. Paula asks her how she DARES!? Moni has Paula’s wrist tightly in both her hands and tells Paula “Don’t touch me, you wretch!”

And we are thankful again this week that any similarity to reality is purely a coincidence. Our collective blood pressure goes down with visions of Juan in the waterfall, half dressed, dancing his heart out while the credits roll.

Pasion Friday January 25 - Lis cries a lot

As Ric and Camila keep making out, outside Mario tries to recruit Ascanio to work his way into Jorge’s confidence and find out what’s going on with the caravan robberies. Ascanio says that he won’t spill any secrets about Ric and the pirates, but neither will he do any more favors for them. He wants to start fresh. Ascanio is upset that if Ric can be cleared of killing that prostitute way back when, why can’t he tell Camila the truth about his last name? He doesn’t want to be part of any more shenanigans. He is obviously a very good ally for Camila, his priorities are in the right place.

Sofia is trying to convince Justo that it is a good idea to find out the truth about whether or not Santiago is Jorge’s son. She insists that he’d have rights, he would inherit the power, etc. Justo argues against it, he says it would be a scandal, Sofia says whatever. Finally she says if he doesn’t talk to Ofelia, she will do it herself.

Camila goes to her room and the Disney sounding love theme plays. She smiles and dreams of kissing Ric. Her flashback tells us more of what happened when they were making out, Ric wanted to hit a home run but she shut him down. He is upset, but then she tells him that she loves him, loves him for real. He’s so happy to hear that that he forgets his blue balls and they talk about how love doesn’t follow reason, bringing two people as different as them together. Lots of smiling and kissing.

Outside Mario tells Ric about his conversation with Ascanio. Ric tells Mario that he told Camila the truth about his cofres full of gold and jewels being stolen. Camila says the money isn’t important, but to Ric it is. So much bloodshed over all the years, he wants his money back. Mario says they’ll find it. As they ride off, we see LaFont across the plaza watching them.

Inside the palace, Mateo and whoever the guy with the fruity moustache is are telling Jorge that they talked about it and they want their cut of the loot after all. I see this becoming a problem later on. Does everyone remember Goodfellas, where they heisted a bunch of cash from an airplane and the whole gang made a deal not to spend any of the money for six months or a year or something? Then just weeks later one of them is driving around in a new Cadillac and his wife is wearing a new fur, which of course brings trouble down on all of them. That’s what I see happening here. One of the gang is going to crack and bring the rest of them down with him. Jorge explains again why he won’t share the jewels, only pay in cash. LaFont shows up and Jorge tells him what they are talking about. Gonzalo then starts whining that he doesn’t get a cut, he was only not part of the assault because Jorge himself sent him away. Jorge starts stirring the discontent by saying that if he gives a cut to Gonzalo, he has to take it out of Mateo’s and Uriel’s shares. Uriel snorts and says of course not! LaFont tells Gonzalo that they’ll find something to make some more money, don’t worry. Gonzalo then tries to convince them that there are not two Ricardos, only one. Alberto LaFont says let’s go find out, Ric has returned, he just saw him in the plaza.

Mario goes back to the bar where it always rains, El Cielito, to feed the old guy booze and find out more local gossip/history. He is trying to find out who Francisco and Pancho might be. Mario explains his interest as wanting to know what’s going on if he is going to live here. The old guy doesn’t believe him but says he doesn’t care as long as the booze flows. He gives Mario the rundown on Jorge’s group of loser friends. He says there is a Pancho de la Vega, but he is ooold and not part of Jorge’s crew. The guy with the most money is Alberto LaFont, Jorge’s right hand man. Word is he steals from Jorge but Jorge doesn’t care. Mario smiles and pours more wine. This old guy has the same vault key as Elaine from Seinfeld.

Alone, Jorge and LaFont review Alvaro’s funeral. Jorge is suspicious now after visiting Salvatierra. He says the disappearance of the boys and the death of their mother all doesn’t seem quite right. LaFont says if Alvaro doesn’t have heirs, maybe Jorge should asks Spain to take over that land. Jorge says not a bad idea. I see now how this can bring Claudio in direct conflict with Jorge now. They sit down to play chess, LaFont recaps his discussion with Fran and Lis and his suspicious about if there are one or two Ricardos. Jorge asks if the other group of people robbing the caravan were pirates, LaFont says he thinks so but doesn’t think Ric is their boss. Jorge agrees since it was Ricardo’s cofres that got stolen. Jorge asks if he thinks Ric really is a pirate, LaFont says he doesn’t know, but regardless he is dangerous.

Fran and Lis ride in a carriage, saying that LaFont sure asks a lot of questions. They arrive at the house and Lis gets all wheezy when she finds out that Ric is back. Ric is busy writing his history of the pirates of the Caribbean. Somehow writing this makes him realize that Jorge must be involved with the caravan robberies. Lis enters. She asks him about where he went, he is vague. She wants to know why he is acting weird. She keeps asking for him to confide in her, he keep saying ah, don’t worry about it. Lis says “uh there is a rumor that you are engaged to Camila.” Ric confirms it and Lis starts whining and crying. He tells her to knock it off, he won’t let her talk bad about Camila, which she continues to do, saying that Camila first trapped her father and now has trapped him. Ric can’t listen to this and leaves, Lis cries some more. I don’t like watching Lis cry any more than Camila, but at least we don’t see Lis quite as much so now that she is the show’s designated cryer, we don’t have to see so much of it.

Fran is lying down with herbs and a wet towel on her head, she must be having a migraine. I imagine spending all day with Lis would make me feel the same way. Lis whines, Fran rolls her eyes, Lis then says that with one word she could ruin Ric. Fran says you would never do that! Lis says who knows, auntie, who knows.

Some guys are practicing with their swords in front of Ric’s house, I guess this place is really out of the way or that would raise some suspicions. Ric and Mario discuss Lis. Ric says he doesn’t know if she will betray him and her hate for Camila is strong. Mario says that a woman with all those things in her head could do anything. He fills Ric in on Jorge’s band of idiots. He thinks that those losers themselves are the organizers of the caravan assaults. They know the area, they have the weapons, etc. Ric has a letter delivered to him, Jorge has invited him over for a drink.

Justo goes to see Ofelia and starts asking her questions about Santiago’s parentage. She is offended and he begs forgiveness, saying that Ofelia forced him into asking. I guess that’s true, just like Jorge, if La Senora asks you must comply. Ofelia looks uncomfortable.

Vasco goes looking for Bernabe, he isn’t home. He is looking for ‘something’ that Bernabe had promised to return but he never showed up.

Ofelia is quite pissed at Justo. He keeps saying that Sofia made him ask, she yells at him. He asks about Ines, she angrily tells him that she’s at HIS house taking care of Paco. He asks forgiveness about ten more times and leaves. Ofelia sits and wonders why they want to ruin Santiago’s life.

As Justo leaves, he runs into Vasco. Justo gives him crap for not talking to Ines, Vasco says that’s why he’s here, to talk to her. Justo gives him a lecture, saying that she’s at HIS house taking care of HIS son, he needs to go talk to her and apologize and promise to be a good husband. Vasco sighs and says fine.

Vasco finally talks to Ines, he isn’t very nice. He promises to try and be a good husband, but he’s going to still go out with his friends. She asks and whores too? He says why not? She slaps him. During the conversation Ascanio walks by and then hurries on to his room. Ines cries a lot, she is a very ugly crier, she wishes none of this happened, Vasco keeps blaming her for pressuring him, she shouldn’t have said anything. We know of course that she was just worried about being pregnant. Vasco finally tries to calm her down, but keeps telling her that this didn’t have to happen, if she hadn’t said anything. She says she loves him and he says he loves her too, but not the way she wants. In time, who knows, God willing.

Camila is getting her gold ready to go pay off the blackmailer, Jimena tries to talk her out of it. Finally Camila says she’s going, Jimena can stay home if she wants. Jimena says of course she won’t let her go alone. Camila rules out having any man, like Ascanio, hide to watch them, the card said to come alone. Camila calls chismosa Cleo to give her the keys. Of course Cleo wants to know what’s going on and is met with “JUST GIVE ME THE KEYS.” Cleo forks them over and does that annoying waving her hands around like a little old woman thing. I love the tics people get in these Estrada productions, though as I have said before, my all time favorite was Antonio de Guzman’s super girly hair flip.

Ric is practicing his pistol quick draw when Lis comes to see him again. Is he leaving? Yes. To see Camila? No, Jorge. She starts whining some more and wants things to be like before, when they spoke to each other with love and care. He tells her then the story of how he met Camila, on the boat to La Mariana. They recap her story with Santiago and his marriage to Rita.

Camila and Jimena are out on some path in the dark, waiting for the blackmailer to appear.

Ric and Lis discuss Camila some more, he says he feels guilty for what happened to her. Is that why he’s marrying her? No, not just for that. He says he’ll try and keep Fran’s name out of the thing about Tim getting Bermejo to frame Ric. He tells Lis that Camila knows that he is a pirate. If so, then why doesn’t he tell her his real name? He says he will, but not now. She asks if he really loves her, he says yes. She gives a huge ugly sob. She starts in on the same old thing, that it isn’t fair that Camila gets to keep Tim’s money. Ric reminds her that giving it back makes her a servant. She says she’ll give Camila her freedom. FINALLY – Lis is willing to try and negotiate a little bit. Unfortunately, it isn’t enough, as Ric reminds her. As the will read, if she gives the money back it all goes to the masons anyway, not to Lis. The only solution is if the marriage is invalidated, and the ED card has gone missing. She asks if he stole it, he says no. He tells her not to worry about money, he’ll always take care of her and Fran, he won’t abandon them.

Lis holds her doll and cries, Fran rants on saying that she believes everything Ric tells her, but at the same time she needs to get the idea of Ric out of her head, they aren’t ever going to get together. Lis ugly cries on and on and on and I’m sick of it. Way too much of that from her today. Fran tells Lis that LaFont wants to get together with her. She lists his qualities, that he is educated and rich. Lis says if not Ric, then she’ll never get married with anyone. Well, good luck with that. Just look how happy Fran is living her life alone!

Ric goes to see Jorge, Alberto is there too. They start asking him questions about his trip to La Mariana and his engagement with Camila, Ric smoothly answers questions, lying when necessary. Ric drops the bomb on them that Pablo survived, LaFont looks a bit uncomfortable at that. Ric says his stuff is still missing, his very valuable stuff. Ric says that this doesn’t seem to be the first time a caravan was robbed in Jorge’s land, doesn’t he know what’s going on? Doesn’t he have a personal guard? Jorge says yes, and he was about to explain, they are his PERSONAL guard, not guard for the whole area. That sounds like a poor explanation to me. LaFont takes over and starts trying to trip up Ric on the whole ‘two Rics’ question. Ric finally says that yes the other guy is named Ricardo too, wow what a coincidence. It’s a common name.

Camila and Jimena are still waiting, Jimena wants to leave. Suddenly a robed figure appears and points at the ground. Camila says no way, drop the card at the same time, the figure says no you first, then me. She sets the money down. He grabs it. He says “Are you sure this is the amount I asked for?” Camila turns her head and looks at him, then says “Bernabe?” dum dum DUMMM. Turns out Bernabe is a horrible blackmailer.

Tuesday (George Bush State of the Union address on Monday night, fun!) – Camila finds Vasco and wants to know where Bernabe is. He claims to know nothing about it. Also, Jorge says that Ric and Camila must have his permission to get married.

One final, off topic item – my son is in a drawing contest for a highway safety calendar, here is his picture -

Votes are tabulated by entering an e-mail address. If anyone is willing to let me use their e-mail address to cast a vote for his picture, please send me an e-mail at ferro94@yahoo.com. I’m not a business, I don’t spam, nothing like that, I just want to cast legitimate votes for my son’s picture rather than make stuff up. Thanks!

Guapos Friday 1/25/08 Who's your Daddy?

Sorry this is so late. I had a computer malfunction, and I had to be away from home for several hours. I am glossing over a couple of scenes where I still don't understand who's blackmailing whom and why. I think this will be revealed in future, and if I rewind and try to watch again now, it is an exercise in futility. If anyone has any ideas, please fill them in. This is quite the action-packed episode!

We're back at the convent for the birthday party where the mariachis are singing. Now I realize why the episodes were running together in my mind--because they were running together literally--the mariachi scene is the overlap from Thursday.

The song is very sweet:
We are going to love forever.
We are going to live together.
There's a new dawn.

The padre comes over and wants the MS to get rid of the blessed mariachis, but she says he should loosen up--it's okay.

Then Mili and Alex sing together. I really liked this--very sweet.
He says "Happy Birthday, Carlitos," and he seems to mean it. They run off together away from the others. He asks her to dinner that night, but she has to decline (she's going out with her friends).

Cut to a discussion between Constancio and Calvilla (the blackmail guy). Calvilla gives him one more chance to pay up. Just think of how the news will look, he says, if the story is revealed (the story that I don't understand). The exact same tinkling piano music of doom from Amar plays. I swear, they have lifted the theme music from Amar! I will henceforth call it PMOD.

Back to the party. Mili wants to know why Alex is so interested in going out with her. He says he really likes her. She is suspicious. He says she likes her as she is, he likes her hair, her laugh, her face, her insolent skin and her lips of water. (Yes, this is what he said.)
They kiss, but suddenly she pushes him away. Then she accepts the dinner invitation.

Her friend whose name I don't know calls her to cut the cake. While she cuts away, Alex calls that friend whose name I also don't know on his cell phone to share the good news about how his practical joke is going. I really don't like this type of practical joke--it smacks of the horror movie Carrie--but I guess it will turn out okay in the end, so I'm going with the flow. But I'm not sure how this prank even got started. Anyone?

Back at the mansion, Hugo is fondling his wig, but he hears someone at the door and quickly stuffs it in the bag. In comes Braulio. Braulio wonders why Hugo doesn't eat; he wants him to build up his strength so he can push his wheelchair. Hugo reminds him that it's a motorized chair. Hugo says he'll call him if he needs him. More PMOD.
Hugo gets up and gets dressed in his disguise.

Constancio and Luciana are arguing about Alejandro. Constancio does not want him to go out with Andrea, but he won't say the real reason--that he is having an affair with her. So he says it's because Andrea is older than Alex, and she's a golddigger. Regina wants to know why he's so bothered by it.
He warns that if Alex doesn't change his attitude, he doesn't want him in the business anymore.

She wonders how he could treat his son so badly--"What son? He is not my son. He is your son." Braulio overhears. Luciana walks away.
Constancio asks if Braulio if he hates him. Braulio says no--your own hate is enough. Constancio says that it's not his fault Braulio lost his sister (this must be Rosario). Braulio says to himself that yes it is.

Now the kids are back at the soccer field. Mili kicks Alex when he tries to kiss her, and the padre tells her to kick the ball, not the legs. Hugo is taking pictures in his bearded getup. Everyone wonders who he is. He says he is scouting for great soccer players. They remind the padre that they saw him lurking around the day before.

Damien and Luciana now have a further discussion about Constancio and how he hates Alex. She regrets the day she married him. Damien tells her that he needs help or he'll go to prison.

Comic relief alert! The gardener who is Marta's husband from Fea is giving "Morgan" more advice on how to get the look of a chofer. He tells him to go rent a particular movie, but it seems he can't remember the name. I will cut to the chase. "Morgan" goes to the video store, where the clerk realizes he asking for Driving Miss Daisy (starring Morgan Freeman--get it?). Hilarity ensues when "Morgan" sits in a chair watching the video and operating an air steering wheel. Marta's husband nods approvingly. I hope they don't keep up too much of this.

Meanwhile, Luciana probes Andrea for any news of whether she and Alex are going out. Yes, and she approves. (note to Chris Ferro and anyone else: I also thought Andrea was Lida from Amar, but actually it's a different actress who sort of looks like her.)

Now Luciana and Constancio are having an argument about Damien. She says it's too late now, and Constancio must help Damien. Constancio is fed up with "her shameless brother."
They talk about voting for something in the company. This is another part I don't understand.

Now they switch to arguing about Alex and once again Constancio calls him "her" son. This time, Alex overhears! Alejandro walks in and asks "what did you say, Papa?" He is stricken.

Is it true? Who is my father? I want to know. He asks. Mom, is it true? She tries to cover up by saying, no he didn't say that. He did too, says Alex--I heard it. No you heard wrong. Constancio torments them both by saying, yes, you heard right--Alex should know the truth. Finally, Constancio actually covers up by saying that Alex is preferred by his mother and Valeria is preferred by him. Mom says that he should not think she doesn't love his sister--just that she (Luciana) and Alex have more affinity. Alex stares. Constancio asks what Alex is looking at, and dismisses him. He says he has a lot of work to do. Alex leaves, and Luciana stammers out an "I owe you one." Constancio winks

Hugo is editing pictures of the kiss between Mili and Alex and fuming at the same time. Finally he slams down his mouse and says he doesn't want to see any more.

Shirtless Alex is pouring coffee at Andrea's apartment. She is wearing a scanty baby doll. They talk about whether they have a future. She is really all business--she wants to modernize the business and says that Constancio is so antiquated. She says that the next day she is going to Monterrey on business. They talk about whether they can get together before she leaves, but he has his date with Mili, so he scampers to make an excuse.

Mili and her friends are now out for a night of fun at the Tejano bar. Alex and his friend whose name I don't know arrive. They are talking about what Alex overheard. He obviously was not completely fooled by what Constancio said. Then they skip to the fun. Alex and friend repeat those same silly seduction lines. He also tells his friend that he's going to use Andrea's apartment for the seduction of Mili. That's kind of creepy, isn't it?

Hugo climbs out the window and is caught by Braulio. Braulio says he's had his suspicions. He will keep the secret.

At the club, the girls are dancing, and Alex is smitten with Cowgirl Mili. Shades of Aurora/Lety, as he doesn't recognize her. He gets her over to the side and asks her for dinner. She says, sure--how about tomorrow (when she knows that Carlitos has a date with him . . .). He weasels out and starts the seduction line: I like your hair, your laugh, your insolent skin, your lips of water. Oh, where did I hear that before? I just love how the actress plays this--she is not betraying anything to him.
She asks where he got that language. Oh, it just came to him--he was inspired. She slaps him. He says what are your doing? She says she was inspired! After the break, she says stay away from me, you cretin and cockroach.

Braulio and Hugo continue their discussion. Hugo says his father (Damien) must pay for leaving his mother. Braulio is going to keep the secret, but I don't really understand what it's all about.

Mili rehashes with her friends. She feels like a fool for having believed Alex the day before. Her friend says "no me haces bolas, Mili." Anyone know what this slang means? Don't make me crazy?

Constancio and Andrea have a discussion. He wants her to go to a nice hotel in Cabo. She is really blowing him off now that she is going to get Alex. She also mentions Peralta.

Next day, Mili is back in her pink uniform tending to a sleeping Regina. She daydreams of Alex and his seduction lines, and slaps the arm of her chair in a fit of pique, waking up Regina, who wants to know what happened.

Constancio gives the blackmail guy a briefcase filled with money. He says he can count it if he wants. No, says Calvillo--this is between gentlemen. Constancio tells him that he doesn't know the meaning of the word. He demands the video and tells him to get out. And he repeats that there will be no more payments. He doesn't want to see him there ever again--capische?

Damien comes in, and they are playing the video. It shows two men walking in a parking garage talking, as in "All the President's Men." You can't see who they are, but it must be Damien and someone else. Consty tells Damien that he paid. If this got to the police, Damien would be a dead man. Or at least he would end up in the same cell as some guy named Carminio.

Damien says he's grateful that Constancio saved him. Who told you that? sneers Consty. Now more than ever, you are in my hands. Damien wants to know why--the video implicates Consty just as much. No, says Consty--it's your word against mine.

Andrea is over at the mansion lounging by the pool with Valeria and gloating about how Valeria's daddy gave her the day off.

He goes in the house and sees Mili and kisses her. She doesn't want to do it because people will see. He says "see you later, Carlitos."

Andrea overhears and sees Mili. So you're Carlitos, she said. How do you know? Andrea says she saw her once at the office. Mili says that if she comes looking for a fight, she'll find one. Andrea says, "Stay away from Alejandro, esquincle (brat)--you hear? You are all alike on offer. (this sounds like she is accusing her of being a prostitute? Not sure of this slang). Then Mili replays--just so you know, eses pulgas no brincan en mi petate. I have no idea what this means, but it seems to come from a song, and the literal translation is "these flies are not carried in my small duffle bag." Maybe it means these insults don't stick to me.

Cut to Luciana, who is studying a picture of her son. Oh, son, she says, our life would have been so different in Paris--we would be away from these tasteless philistines. I suppose the real daddy was a French artist? Damien comes in and tells her that Constancio has paid off Peralta.

Cut to Andrea kissing Alex in the kitchen. What a nice surprise, he says--that bikini is marvelous. She says she put it on so he could take it off. But they are interrupted, because he has to make some calls. She says she is taking advantage of time before going to the airport to tan with his sister by the pool. He then falls into the pool, but Andrea is now gone. Andrea is fully dressed and talking to Luciana. I don't really get the point of these couple of scenes, except that they needed to have her confront Mili.

Alejandro is setting up the dinner at the apartment with lots of candles. Mili knocks on the door. She is wearing her full tomboy getup and carrying a large bag. She is really laying it on thick. First, she asks if he has deodorant. What? he asks. You heard me--do you have deodorant. Well, there must be some in the bathroom, but why? Because we were playing ball on the corner for a while and I smell like a goat.

Mili now starts gobbling her food like a slob. She is mopping up the sauce with a huge hunk of bread. Alex stares speechless. He asks if she likes the food. Oh, yes. I really like garlic, she says--especially when the smell stays in your mouth. She then jumps up and puts on the lights and blows out all the candles. She doesn't like candles, she says, because it reminds her of the convent where they could not use lights and had to use candles. Suddenly she jumps up again and grabs her bag and heads away from the table. Alex asks where she's going. Don't worry, she tells him--she's just going to the bathroom. While she's in the bathroom, he starts relighting the candles. Of course, he takes time to call his friend about how well the scenario is going.

Meanwhile, Damien is playing poker at a sleazy casino. (Maybe this is the same set they used when he was playing poker with Silvana in the last episode of Amar.) After a few hands, he seems to reach into his lap to pull out cards. They all push all their chips in, and then Damien tries to claim he won the hand and take all the chips. The other player pulls a gun and says the equivalent of "not so fast, buddy" and calls him a disgraceful cheat.

Now for the fun part--here comes Mili out of the bathroom dressed in the cowgirl getup. Alex looks impactado.

end of episode.

Guapos Thursday 1/24/08 Did anyone see it?

Since we don't have a Thursday recapper, I was going to post a brief synopsis, but then I accidentally erased the Thursday episode from my DVR--duh! I watched it but didn't make any notes, and I was going to review it, but I didn't get a chance. I am now also having the Thursday and Friday episodes running together in my head. I will review Friday and post the recap tomorrow morning.

The two important events seem to be that that Alejandro is setting up a seduction scenario with Mili to win a bet with his friend. Mili's birthday is the next day, and he invites her to a special dinner. Meanwhile, he is still doing whatever he is doing with that golddigger who is also two-timing with his own father (who is not his father).

Mili and Regina cement their bond and seem to be on the verge of discovering that Mili is the long-lost nieta, because they find out that Mili had a necklace with a charm of the Virgen of some name that I can't remember. This was unusual, apparently, because few people are devoted to that Virgen. What seems to be the stumbling block is that Grandma thinks the birthday of her grandchild is two months later (or earlier) than Mili's. If anyone else has watched Thursday, please fill in with any details.

Thanks!

Juan Q 1/23 Wed- Nid is zonked, Kike is conked, and many are boinked

Juan and Susana make out to a horribly out of tune guitar. She agrees to be his Novia and leaves him to his preoccupations. Juan promises to see her later. He comments that his little boots will wake up unde her bed one of these days!

Cl& Pau fight about Pau wanting to come back to work at Farell. Cl doesn't want because it's too close for comfort. Pau snips that Moni is not too close. He says she's an associate and he can't deny her. Pau should calm down eat lunch with her sis and they'll talk later.

Pau goes out to Mar and tells her she has probs with CL and Moni's meddling and they depart for lunch.

Nid is reading a fitness mag hiding behind Yadi's knitting mag for baby outifts, really salivating over a male instructor. Yadi comes in and she hides the whole thing and denies she knows where it it. She yells at Yadi for not trusting her, she thinks they are hard on her about the baby etc. Yadi tells her she's exaggerating and tha Kike says. Nid cuts her off and accuses her of being a hen and letting that rooster say what goes all the time. Yadi protests that they both makes decisions but Nid keeps on making fun.

At the market Kike is looking for houses, Anga says make sure your wife agrees or you won't be able to stand the harping down the road. Kike agrees. that a woman that doesn't irritate you is a man (La mujer que no repela es hombre). What he wants to do is give her a bunch of selections that she can choose from quickly, before she changes her mind. He fears Nid is up to some tricks and she'll influence Yadi to stay. Anga muses that women are mysterious and such, and Kike wonders if he's talking about his own case or Kike's. Anga says there is no case. kike knows he burns for Nid still. Anga confesses he's been in love with her his whole life, and that doesn't go away over night. Kike confides in him, that he has entitlements and that he should go for it because Alirio is crafty and he's trying to worm his way in too. The marriage was headed straight down a hole but he got her to have a second honeymoon with him somehow. he encourages Anga to compete.

Susana goes in and asks herli for the office keys because she wants to surprise Juan later. Herli isn't sure she should do that, but Su explains that what she didn't know yet is that Juan and Su are going together. Oh yeah, that was just the right thing to tell this loca. Herli turns green and blames it on blood pressure. She gives the keys to SU and tells herself Juan is going to get a surprise!! She's been hanging around her brothers too long I think.

Pau is at home spilling her guts to Laura about Moni's interfering, and how she's not just goin to stand by and let it happen. Laura gets up to leave and Ana asks Pau to stay. She yells at her for confiding in Laura and warning her about strangers. Pau defends her blathering that she needs someone to listen to her. Ana wonders if she goes back to Farell, then what about the business here?

Kike comes home and Yadi, full of NId poison yells at him for being a macho advantage taker. Kike is confused but when he turns around, ee, ee, ee, ee. NId is there with butcher raised!!!! Arhhh!! He asks her to calm down, what she's doing with the knife. She accuses him of not even letting her cut onions in this house!!. She says he's been so touchy lately(quisquilloso) that one doesn't know what things are ok and what things are bad. She waves around the large blade like a fan. He said it's fine but she should warn him first because she came at him like "El Monje Loco" and scared him almost to death! She kids that his conscience is bothering him about something then. He asks what's wrong with Yadi, and she says nothing that wouldn't occur to a woman living in tyranny and oppression like in the times of Don Porfirio. Kike is still stumped. She asks for 5 minutes of his time. She asks him why he hates her so much. Again Kike stumped. She continues why is he such an implacable judge that he is capable of seeing a Rasputin where there is simply a sick and defenseless woman. He wonders what Rasputin, he only knows (Serpellin or hacer pellin?) I didn't catch this because my captions were funky, but he's either refering to a person or a tree. Anyway she wants to know why he's trying to tear apart her family and separate her from her daughter and granddaughter.

Pau and Ana are discussing the business, Pau saying they don't need her, they are the artists, and Ana saying she wanted her in to be the business person and administrator that they need. Pau says so it's lose my marriage or not be in? Ana mocks that she cares about fighting tooth and nail now for her marriage. Pau says she's sure about that now. Ana says yeah, after Juan read your cards (told you where to put it). She says she wants Cl back, and Ana says wanting him back, and not wanting Moni to have him are not the same thing. Pau plays spoiled brat and runs out again.

Kike swears all he wants is his own house like any other couple. Nid doesn't get why when they have this one. She said the day Yadi and Nid Mich leave, she'll be right after them with her feet in front of her (I think like being carried out dead). She hopes he rectifies this.

Kike goes up and wonders if his wife will speak with him now. He tells her that Nid was hunting him. Yadi tells him he needs to respect her Mom a little more. He thinks he's the poor one that she started it and gave him a scolding that not even his own mother would. yadi accuses him again of being macho simply because he brings the money home. He says he knew if he took the muffler he would take away her brain or something like that. He can't believe she's on her mother's side. She says it's her Mom and she'snever abadoned them and she cares well for the baby. Kike decides to leave.

Juan is singing Susana's praise to Juanito, how she's smart and nice and well educated, and it would be good for him too, a woman Juan could sit his head on would Juanito like that? Jito says no he's used to sitting on his butt cheeks (nachas) not his head. Juan tells him it's a saying, that it's time for him to take things seriously and think about a family etc. Someone who can help around the house, with home work etc. He says Juanito needs a ma too. he says he had one and she left and he doesn't want that to happen again. Juan asks him but what if something happens to him, if God gives him the red card (soccer means the player is out of the game) before the end of the period? Juanito says no, if Papa dies, then Juanito dies to right next to him. They hug.

Herli fakes being asleep when her Pa checks on her. She then escapes out the window but makes some noise that her Pa hears and sends the tweedle to check. he sees his sister taking off but decides not to say anything to the Pa.

Pau and Cl are chatting again about her coming back to Farell. Cl ends up thinking they should wait until Pau's Ma doesn't need her anymore then they'll talk.

Juan goes to look for Su. They tell him she left him a message.

Laura tells Moni what she heard at Davila's that Pau wants to be back at Farell and how she was amd about their massage fest. Chelo calls to report the news.

Herli runs to the Exportadora and sneaks into the office where Susana is awaiting an indoor picnic complete with iced champagne! Weeouu! She puts a note on the door for Juan. Her brother is spying.

Pau asks Cl if he tooks his meds, he wants a dose of her instead.

Juan shows up at the Exportadora and finds the note. He walks away and gets ambushed by a vaccum cleaner, er, for love by Herli. She takes him to the ground and they suck face wildly. A dog begins to howl. Susana thinks she hears him so she goes out with the lantern and she gets an eye full already. She calls his name and he looks up muy pero muy impactadissimo!!!!

Herli needs to ditch her white frilly dresses and put her red suit and horns back on. She was in a convent???? Susana calls him every name in the book and confirms he left town for a woman like Heriberto said and it was Herli. She sees how well they cleared things up between them. She says that kind of passionate kissing takes two. He begs and pleads that it's not what it seems, he thought Herli was Su. Herli tells him to forget about Su.

Heriberto comes in to have celebratory shot and he almost gets one, right in the noggin. Seems Papa thinks he may have been the cat who was meddling earlier. heriberto tells him he just saw Juan and herli. Pa says no way she's in bed. Bro swears he saw her. Pa says ok, fine let's go interrupt this before she makes another mistake. They take off gun in hand like rabid dogs.

Molo is playing the guitar which sounds like he hasn't tuned it since his grandfather died and gave it to him and Herli comes up crying because Juan rejected her for the other. Molo tells her she needs to leave it alone already!!

Back at her hotel, Juan is finishing the story about the note. He swears it was as dark as the mouth of a wolf and he didn't know it wasn't her, blah blah. She's buying it, but wants to know why if he had such bad history, he has them in the business. He said one to get Aldemar in his back pocket, and 2) to get Herli close to Molo because he's in love with her. Juan says she always trying to get attention from him. Su gets why she was so mad when she asked about the keys.

They make up and make out.

Pau and CL are also chatting and he feels better too, but insists he just wants her. he needs her and they start at it too.

Su says she's not the jealous type but it bugged her to see them together. He understands. He feels great with her and wants her to trust him. They start at it.

There is a montage of dual lust fests to an out of tune guitar. Pau looks miserable. Su looks feliz. Juan looks enraptured. Cl looks determined.

I Love Juan - Thurs 1/24 - If you can't be with the one you love honey, love the one you're with.

We ended yesterday's show with the two couples making love. CL and Paula are in the big city; she gives the meaningful-telenovela-over-the-shoulder look signifying she's thinking of another, namely Juan. Meanwhile Juan seems to be a bit more focused on his new novia Susana.

Tweedle Dumb works his Papi into a lather by saying he saw Juan making out with sis. Tweedle smirks as Papi marches off, rifle in hand, to seek out the violator.

Molondrón has taken Herlinda to his pad to calm down. I paused here for a moment and noticed this guy has a fantastic face, heavy well-defined features, almost like a sculpture. All in all a very cool looking guy. Anyway, Herlinda starts a self-pity fest, Juan loves Susana, I'm a horrible person, wah. Molo tells her to take it easy or she's going to make sweet potatoes of herself (get herself exhausted, I think, or maybe in a dither) over Juan. He puts her in his hammock and tells her to rest, be tranquil. She touches his face.

Post-coital Paula thinks of Juan while CL sleeps. She remembers making sweet love to him.

Cut to Juan's boots at the foot of Susana's bed. His thought bubble is accompanied by a painfully out-of-tune guitar... as sensual and scorching as it was, for the first time in life he knew that sex without love is like a taco without salsa, a belt without a buckle, and a night without the moon. In short, it's like dancing the cachibombon without an orchestra. But Juan thinks maybe if he doesn't close the door a little love will come in and hopefully win, because this woman is worth it. Juan caresses sleeping Susana's hand, covers her up, gives her a kiss. He thinks if nothing else, as Juanito divined she is a monument to beauty and tenderness and seems to have fallen from the sky.

Molo watches Herlinda sleep. He's got it bad.

It looks like Don Almedar and Tweedle have grabbed the padre so he can marry Juan and Herlina. The padre's not happy to be forcibly escorted to marry a reluctant couple. The blustering hot air pair state their case; Juan violated Herlinda's virture. Padre answers, "Bah!!"

Juan, sitting on Juanito's bed, hears a shot. Juan and Juanito hear Don A shouting, "Come out! Are you a man or a leech?" Juan says it's just a couple of drunks. Meanwhile Delfi is downstairs in her shortie robe praying. Nearby, Molo hears the ruckus and ineffectually blocks the door with a lightweight aluminum cot.

Juan dashes out to confront Don A who blathers about the virtue of his daughter and how he'll kill Juan if he doesn't marry Herlinda. He starts shooting in the air as Tweedle cheerleads.

Herlinda and Molo run up. "Here I am," she announces. This inflames Don A who thinks Juan and Molo were hiding her. "Your hour has arrived," he tells Juan, lowering his rifle. Juanito breaks free and runs to protect his pop.

Don A's head looks like it's about to explode. He yells to Delfina that her house is a hovel of perdition, a den of iniquity. Delfina, in a fit of pique, hauls off and slaps him a good one. I re-watched in slo-mo and it looks like she really hit him! Either that or great acting on both their parts. Juan finally manages to wrestle the rifle away from Don A. Thank goodness, he was waving that stupid thing all over the place. He needs to take gun handling 101.

Molo tries to explain to Don A. that there was no funny business, he was just trying to calm Herlinda down before she returned home. "What a load," blusters Don A. Herli pipes up that she no longer wants to live in the cave era, she wants to be an independent modern woman. Everyone tries to defend her, but Don A. tells her to shut up, she's spouting sacrilege.

Don A. grabs his heart. It's about time he has a stroke, the old coot. But no, not this time, he rallies. He bellows that she is a marked woman and nobody will offer her their name. She is lost to him. (Good, go home and play with your guns, bottle and plastic horsies.) Not surprisingly, Molo stands up for her and says he'll offer not only his name but also all his love and respect. Juan and Delfi cheer him on. Molo adds that if Herli will have him he'll marry her right now, no shotgun needed.

This only throws gasoline on the fire that is Don A. He says he'd rather see Herlinda dead or a nun than marry a pelafustán (nobody), a scraper/plucker of cat-gut with no future (rascas de tripas which I believe refers to Molo's guitar playing). They begin to fight but Juan breaks them up. He announces that Molo is a 25% partner in the business. He tells Don A. to chill and let these crazy kids be in love.

Molo drops to his knees and tells Herli he has loved her since the day he first saw her, since she was a baby in her mother's arms. (Eh? Kinda weird but OK, he's the artistic type.) He throws himself at her feet. Will she marry him? "Now that's love!" whoops the padre, "I'll marry them right now!" Tweedle protests but pa shuts him up. If Molo's OK then this deserves a fiesta.

Herli tells Molo she'll see him tomorrw, she needs to take her father home. Don A. manages to sputter one more threat to Molo, do right by my daughter or die.

Later Don A., still not dead from a stroke or heart attack, asks Herli to forgive him. Everything he did he tried to do only for her benefit.

Juan, in a tank top and fetching yellow shorts, tucks Juanito into bed. Juanito wants to know if Juan plans to marry Susana? Juan rests in his hammock with his boots on and thought-bubbles that he had just met one of the promises he made. He's not about to miss the next one, right? He wants to tear out the bad love so that he can love Susana like he wants to love her.

Back in the DF Alirio wakes Nidia and entreats her to make breakfast for him. He tries to give her besitos but she hides under the covers and shuns his little kisses. She tells him she'll make breakfast while he takes a shower. As soon as he leaves the room she jumps out of bed fully clothed, accesorises, and escapes.

She sees Kike downstairs and they have an uncomfortable moment until she begs him to have pity on her. "What do you want?" he asks. She tells him to take her to the market right now and hustles him out the door.

Delirio complains to Yadi and the baby that Nidia left without making him breakfast. Yadi says don't look at her, she's busy. Delirio wrinkles his nose and says he smells something rotten in Denmark and it's ruining his appetite. Yadi announces it's only Nidia Michaela and she cuddles the cute little stink factory before laying her down for a change.

It's-always-about-Paula complains to Ana that she's thinking about working at Farell because Cesar works there day and night. "Yo, Center-of-the-universe, what about our business?" asks Ma. It was Pau's idea and suddenly she has other plans? Ana is fed up, she announces her partnership is terminated as of that moment. "What about Laura?" asks Paula.

Surprise, Laura arrives. "Perfect timing," sneers Ana, "we were just talking about you."

Farell industries new, pirated 'sof-where' causes CL's computer to crash. Ivonne tries to fix it by staring at it and poking a few keys but no luck.

Ana sits Paula and Laura down and announces she is no longer part of the business. Pau tries to use Laura as the guilt card but Ana is firm. She's sorry if this affects Laura but that's not her problem because she's out of the business. Really, who can blame Ana? This was just about the stupidest "business" ever. All they did was talk about it, eavesdrop and paint ceramics in the living room.

Kike takes Nidia to see Anga. She gets rid of Kike so she and Anga can flirt. She asks Anga if he knows her daughter Yadi? He rubs his cheek, remembering Yadi's mighty slap. Yeah, he knows her. Nidia enlists Anga's help in speaking to Kike on her favor. She slyly admits she came personally to the market so she could see him.

CL has dragged Pastor into his office to look at his sick computer. Pastor also pokes a few keys, wrings his hands, and admits he knows nothing about computers.

Doña Delfi has laid out a beautiful breakfast to Juan's great joy. He tells her he'll start with two helpings of beans in order to fill his cistern and two empty feet. She asks him where he was the night before, with Susana, right? He tells her that a gentleman has no memory. Well, Juanito told her that Susana is Juan's girlfriend so what's up? Juan exclaims with forced happiness Yes, Yes, we ARE novios!! Delfi sighs and tells him he's had a hell of a time (like those of Cain). She encouraged him to skip the tiger (?) and now she encourages him to go beyond. She and Juan both sigh. I think she's telling him to do what it takes to get over Paula and take the plunge with Susana. I'm really starting to feel bad for Susana about now. She doesn't even know she's sloppy seconds, un plato de segunda mesa.

Don A. advises Molo and Herli that a good marriage has a base of effort and sweat. He should know as he was married five times. Molo tells him he just wants to make Herli happy. When they are alone Molo tells Herli she doesn't really love him, does she? She admits her heart still belongs to Juan, but she wants to pretend she'll marry Molo so that she can get free from her father. He agrees that he'll help her get her own life.

The cut-to-commercial shows them kissing so there's hope for these kids yet.

Anga and Nidia flirt while he describes the quaint social and dancing customs in the village he visited.

Pastor finds Delirio and accuses him of putting demons in CL's crashed computer. If his incompetent partners screwed up the President's computer he can only imagine what filth they installed in the rest of the company. He accuses Delirio of bringing in the biggest swindlers in the city. Thanks to Delirio his head is on the block and the company is on the verge of ruin. Pastor forces Delirio to go to CL's office and try to fix the computer himself.

Delirio works on CL's computer while CL, Moni and Pastor glare at him. Success! It's back up! But no, "System Failure" suddenly flashes on the screen. All the data on CL's computer is lost. Delirio prays and CL screams while the office gossips watch intently from outside the windows. Delirio reminds CL that he is a lawyer and not a systems engineer. CL lunges for his throat. Moni and Pastor try to calm CL down. He tells Delirio and Pastor they have two days to fix the computers or he'll kill them both.

Back in Achichipico Juan sees Susana and thought bubbles that he's seeing his new storm walking like a leaf in the wind. He kisses her and she says she thought she was going to spend the night in his arms. Juan believes this is the signal he's been waiting for, "Would you spend every night in my arms?" She seems surprised but says nothing would make her happier. He goes in for the kiss and it's a good one too. This guy can kiss. "Susana, will you marry me?" They gaze at each other, happily impactados, and any resemblance to reality is purely coincidental.

P.S. Schoolmarm in black, I had right and proper closed captions tonight. Thanks for helping me with the complaint process!

a otro perro con ese hueso = what a load, I don't believe you (Lit. to another dog with this bone)

pasar las de Cain = to have a hell of a time (Lit. to spend times like Cain)
pelafustán = nobody (AKA pelagatos)
