La Verdad Oculta #069: A still-hidden truth
Santiago visits Leonardo at home, where they chuckle over his junior detective ratting out Santiago's white lie; and Leonardo assures him he'll square it with Paula. They are just discussing who perpetrated the shoot out and who the marks were when the bell rings, and it's Juan José interested in the same topic.
Leonardo reports his plans to question a prison inmate from Adolfo's organization about the two dead goons. Speaking of goons, at Garnica's he's drawn one of his out of hiding to protect him while he accomplishes a couple little jobs for Garnica. He wants the goon to follow Susana with the object of offing her.
An angry and desperate Adolfo bursts into Roberto's condo to rough him up over not receiving the shoes and photo yet. Impressed and chastised Roberto phones Susana at Mario's immediately urging her for the items, with news Adolfo will fork over additional cash. Susana blows him off claiming she'll call him tomorrow.
Then she makes an excuse to the cook to exit with her bag of blackmail goodies and snags a taxi, with Garnica's goon already tailing her. Up in Adolfo's condo, Yolanda's taking a powder room break when he arrives in a huff, and she then eavesdrops on a call from Pablo reporting the surprising death of Félix.
She overhears Adolfo's horror that his right hand man is dead! Startling him, she insists it matters to her who is dead, who he had killed. There were two dead: who is the other, she demands. Adolfo shouts at her to shut up as he exits, while she screams -- Did he have Mario killed?
Across town, a manager lets Susana into her new apartment, with no luggage other than her shopping bag. At Santiago's, Juan José returned with him and agrees to take Gabriela to the hospital next day. He explains the objects of the shoot out as himself and Leonardo, with David taking stray bullets while protecting her.
Next day, Ramón phones Leonardo at home with bad news that Adolfo's inmate, Pedro Cordero, was found murdered in his cell, convincing Leonardo of a link between him and Félix. He intends to investigate the murder through the warden, and Ramón reports Pedro was a friend of Marcos and thus connected to the jewels.
Alejandra sadly greets Gabriela and Juan José at the ICU waiting room with word only that David is stable, nothing more. When Gabriela exits to check, Alejandra hassles Juan José for being cozy with Gabriela, which he denies; and when he begs forgiveness again, Alejandra plays hard to get, tongue in cheek.
In his ICU, David lies still as death while a crushed Gabriela gazes from the window separating them, palm on the glass in a gesture to touch him. At Mario's, Abelardo is surprised to hear from the cook that Susana hasn't shown; then he tries to dissuade Santiago from taking Adolfo's visit, to no avail.
In Mario's office, Adolfo notes the odd darkness and launches into a tale meant to deny David's accusations of the other day, still blaming either Mario or Santiago for Márta's murder. He has no luck interesting "Mario" in blaming Santiago, who put them in contact with Leonardo -- looking for evidence against Adolfo.
"Mario" claims he could present the crime-scene evidence or testify about Adolfo's blackmail and larceny; but essentially a peaceful man, he'll let that slide -- when Adolfo signs the end contract! His attitude is not adding up for Adolfo, though; and he doubts "Mario" has evidence, until "Mario" dials Leonardo's number.
Adolfo must angrily take the bluff and grab the phone, remarking how much "Mario" has changed. Satisfied "Mario" agrees he's done with submission, reminding Adolfo that "he with the most fear loses." "Mario" notes Leonardo linking Márta and Gabriela both as unwitting mules for jewel smuggling.
When "Mario" won't agree to give up the purported dressing-room evidence before a signed contract -- and points out they have extra security now to make sure he doesn't die before that happens, Adolfo is relegated to angrily sweeping the desk corner clean and exiting in failure.
The moment Abelardo enters, Santiago jumps to his feet, furious David neglected to report he'd braced Adolfo about the cuff link. Beyond in the hallway, Bertha greets Adolfo and pulls him out to the patio, where she lies that David begged her to come home; but her uncle still treats her shabbily and she's disgusted.
Adolfo explains he's not angry she left the hotel without a word, and that he'll stand by her -- but she must level with him in return. Back inside, now Yolanda urgently visits "Mario," frantic that David was hurt, and reminds "Mario" of her previous warning. She frantically wishes she could turn Adolfo in, but she can't.
Yolanda insists she's protecting Carlos, which "Mario" shoots down, claiming the son is as bad as the father. They're both murderers! Back on the patio, Adolfo explains that Carlos moved out of the house -- and he tentatively offers Bertha to move into the vacancy, to live at the house just as friends; and Bertha agrees.
In the office, "Mario" pressures Yolanda more on her defense of Adolfo, angrily including her complicity in implicating Santiago. If she's not as bad as Adolfo, then what to do with him is she hiding? Yolanda rushes from the room, sobbing that what she's hiding is awful -- unspeakable!
At Juan José's Mirador office, he meets with Garnica, agreeing to invest in the beach project, where they will visit at the weekend. Back at Mario's, Abelardo presses Santiago to visit his "son" at the hospital; but Santiago's nervous about the light-filled location revealing his disguise.
Then Santiago confesses he's mystified at Yolanda's curious exit, that she is hiding something to do with Adolfo that apparently is personal and not about money. Before their departure for the hospital, Bertha catches "Mario" and infuriates him by slamming that faker, Gabriela, for souring her on visiting David.
"Mario" is so angry he nearly sweeps off his feet but for Abelardo's arm clamped around his chest. His objection is all it takes for Bertha to call him a crazy old coot and shout that she's leaving again. Meanwhile, Susana phones Adolfo, cutting out Roberto, and extorts $2-1/2 million pesos for the lot.
She hangs up on Adolfo, whereupon Yolanda enters, saying she hasn't located Carlos yet. This prompts Adolfo to fill her in on Bertha's arrival, and she delights in razzing him that he's thrice Bertha's age. Affronted Adolfo warns Yolanda not to go too far -- that she well knows why he puts up with her!
At the hospital, Alejandra explains to "Mario" that David's spinal injury may leave him paralyzed -- or just as well not. It could go either way. In Mauricio's office, Garnica surprises him revealing Juan José as an investor; but he's grateful to have the project on track.
Later, Elsa greets Mauricio with a kiss and is excited they're traveling to the beach as planned -- a little mystified Juan José is investing, but insisting it makes no difference to her. With a sweet touch to his cheek, Elsa assures Mauricio warmly not to worry. They're going to have a business trip.
In Michoacán at Jorge's store, the fateful headlines of the day's newspaper from the D.F. finally make it under Dora's nose, and Jorge must hustle to keep her from fainting dead away into the floor. Meanwhile in the ICU, David begins convulsing while Gabriela watches in horror; and his monitor is screaming he's coding.
The doctor rushes in with a crash cart and begins defibrillating David's chest; but the bedside monitor screams a flatline unabated -- right through the end credits! Instead of the theme song!

Thanks so much; how do you post so early? I was completely wrong about Bertha; I really thought she
was becoming fearful of Adolfo.
Now she's straight out of the frying pan and into the fire and
meaner thanever ..so much for swearing on her mother's memory.
It's fun watching how quickly things get resolved. We were teased on Friday about Dora reading about David in the paper and today she finds out.
Is Garnica attempting to gain JJ's trust with this investment and then blackmail him with the letter?
Is Bertha really on team Adolfo or just trying to get paid?
The ending of the episode was a great cliffhanger.
Juan Jose needs to find a good lawyer to handle his business affairs. Maybe he is investing with Garnica this time because he trusts Medina, knowing he is an honest man from past experience. But really! A fool and his money are soon parted, J J.
Now I'll comprehend a little more when I watch in about half an hour. Thanks for the details.

Marcos' crazy escape buddy and fellow drug trafficker is now Garnica's goon who, ironically, is supposed to take out Susana. Another nice tie-in of a thread to the rest of the story. And Susana certainly closed the door on Roberto's blackmail scheme and he's really out of luck now with Adolfo.
Somehow I think David, our galan, will make it but still it was a great cliffhangfer.

Highlight: "Mario" is so angry he nearly sweeps off his feet". Ahh, Bertha still has not learned her lesson. She has more than an inkling of Adolfo's nefarious nature. I feel a tad more sympathetic to Susana who has not yet grasped she is dealing with the devil. I suspect both will rue their choices before the (or their) end.
The Gabi/Ale situation was a little too Betty/Veronica for me but I was glad to see Ale's smile as Juan apologized (yet again).
Will Dora rush to David's bedside? Will she be in time?
Even though I fully expect that monitor to start working within the first few seconds of tonight's show, I can't be certain. There lies the beauty of this show.
So glad you are with us Karen!
Thanks again Jeri.
Diana
Karen, we are really spoiled with the fast pace of this well-written show; for example, as you said, Dora only required a couple days to learn about David -- but I had the audacity to be impatient anyway, LOL. I'd like to have seen what this show could do in prime time.
GinCA, you are right about Juan José and his money. He never had any and is still getting used to it. I hope he doesn't fritter it away like so many lottery winners do. That goon of Garnica is not the same fellow Marcos escaped with, from what I remember.
It was a great cliffhanger; the monitor tone as theme song just made me smile. A nice touch.
Cute end to the scene with Elsa and Mauricio. He's like a cuddly teddy bear. All Elsa has to do is smile, bat her eyes, and give his chin an affectionate squeeze, and he's in heaven.
Adolfo is really starting to lose a grip on his power, while Garnica's power seems to be growing. He appears to be a crime boss in his own right, but no one knows, not even Adolfo. Perhaps because he's covered his track so well, people like Mauricio don't know he's dirty. I mean he has a legit business- he's a real lawyer that represents the rich. Even Adolfo, one of his clients, has never been publicly exposed as a crime boss. He keeps it very hush hush. So I don't think Mauricio is being silly or naive. Garnica probably has a very public record of legit work for his rich clients. I am sure he has found a way to benefit himself in some illegal way from the beach construction/tourism project. But that also seems to be legit (I mean it is being built).
Funny to see Marcos' ex prison mate/escape partner in that wig and working for Garnica. (Loved this actor as sweet Trapito in Dinero.) He killed Don Goyo, so we know he's capable of killing Susana. She is really playing with fire. Making a deal with Garnica (who does not want to be exposed), betraying Roberto (who would be crazy enough to hurt her if betrayed him), and making another deal with Adolfo (who wouldn't mind getting rid of her once he has what he wants).
Yeah...happily Caray is a spoiler-free zone; and that was already more than I wanted to know. I have no idea when that comes out, fortunately; and I'd consider saying when it does a spoiler anyway, so please don't anybody say. I said enough, LOL.
I am trying to imagine something
despicable re Yolanda & Adolfo....
all intently intriguing.
So you think they're using the same actor to play a different thug?? Like as a joke? Cause, there's no lack of big ugly guys to play thugs in novelas. Is he supposed to be Piggy's twin brother or something?
I'm so glad that there is a reason that Yolanda has being forced into hanging with the bad guys, I've always thought that she is a good girl at heart. (At least I hope so!)
I've noticed that Adlofo drums his fingers when he is a bit cornered and he is druming those finges a lot these days. Floridia, "It was fun watching "Mario" make Adolfo squirm in the office." I LOVED that too! The "new" Mario is really cool, calm and collected, until someone says something about his hijas, then he explodes.....too funny!
It is unusual to see a patient with lung damage on a respitator with a simple air tube TAPED into his mouth with his nose free, oh well, all the better to see the face of our handsome galan!
The set designer on the LVO really likes yellows, so many of the living areas of the characters are shades of yellow!!!!
Jeri, thanks for the wonderful, quick (!) recap!!!!
Question - Does anyone think Adolfo is interested in Bertha? There are times when he seems somewhat tempted but he could just be part of his manipulation of her.
Favourite scene: when JJ lost his patience and poked Alejandra's side - Will'ya forgive me? Plehehease? That was cute. I like the chemistry between the actors.
But if she does turn to the good side, she could learn a lot of helpful info by living under Adolfo's roof.
At this point though, Garnica is the man to watch- he will be pulling the strings to make them all dance.
Karen (see above to Diana), "...I can see Bertha sticking with Adolfo to the bitter end. He genuinely likes her and she him; they are an item to my mind. If he plays his cards right, he can have her..."
They had excellent scenes together at David and Gabriela's wedding.
Check out the screen caps at La Verdad Oculta #042: Ordinary Dora to Extraordinary Dora (and The Wedding)
That come-hither look on Bertha's face is for Adolfo, as is Adolfo's for Bertha in a subsequent shot.
There are You Tube links for the episode in the comments section, as usual. It would be a good one to watch. It's exciting! LOL
I don't believe Adolfo is capable of love (or anything remotely approaching it). While he may find her pretty and attractive he is emotionally stunted and not able to feel, express and give honest, caring emotion. He has no issue using her for his ill gotten gain, but he is vacuous and vacant.
Only my opinion. :)
Diana
Hmmm... Yolanda has covered for Adolfo through cheating, smuggling, framing the innocent, theft, blackmail, embezzlement, assault and murder. And isn't he a drug dealer as well? It doesn't get a whole lot worse than that. Whatever Yolanda is hiding must be really hideous. I can't help thinking maybe Adolfo is grooming Bertha to be Yolanda's replacement. He seems more and more irritated by Yolanda's presence, while she keeps dropping in at just the wrong time. Leo was right, Yolanda needs to get out while she still can.
My guess is that Garnica is 'legitimate' on projects like Mauricio's, but is padding the costs for the legal aspects, taking bribes and kickbacks on the construction then running some kind of protection racket once the project is done.
I thought it was odd that David's condition wasn't being monitored by a nurse and didn't seem to be monitored at the nurse's station either. Gabi had to run out and find the doctor.
They did play the theme song at the end of the show here.
So, he's coding, and nobody anywhere knows about it.
Plus, you can always see "Lead Out" or "Line Out" on the monitor when they flat line some character, meaning it's not hooked up.
I guess if you don't read English, it would be ok.
Jeri - I'm glad you noticed that lead/line out. I thought you have to plug the machine in and then grabbed my beanie. Also thanks for the links to Bertha and Adolfo.
The Yolanda/Bertha/Adolfo trio seems to be a focus this time.
This teaser about something really terrible that keeps her with Adolfo is only one of the things that keeps this tn fast-paced.
I think it must be something SHE has on Adolfo or HE wouldn't be keeping her around, supporting her, and NOT having a physical relationship with her.
Since this has been going on for so long and she played the substitute mother for Carlos, it would be hard for Adolfo to off her, even making it look like an accident. So, with Vivi, I agree he tolerates her presence as long as she continues to be useful and makes sure she stays happy. In return, yes, she's helped him in many of his nefarious activities.
I loved the scene where Abelardo has to hold "Mario" back from attacking a retreating Bertha and he nearly lands on his seat.
The serious dramtic action is relieved by these sane, well-placed lightly humorous scenes, such as the JJ-Ale poking scene last night and of course whenever Limon and Caramelo are on.
Since we can't have romantic moments every night, it's nice to see even a little of our various noviecitos together. Last night Mauricio had me at his smile.

What about the doctor at the end when David flatlined and the look on his face. He looked like he had no clue what to do next. Maybe Gabi grabbed the cleaner instead of a real doctor, lol.
I am confused with Bertha. When she was living at the apartment she was crying to Ale to go back home, and yet now she was so happy when Adolfo invited her to stay with him. Strange. Oh well, if she doesn't mind having sex with Adolfo I am sure she will be very happy spending his money and being the lady of the house.
Bertha has this real special technique to always get 'Mario's' blood pressure up when she opens her big mouth. She is definately not on his favourite people list. So funny.
Another sweet scene between Mauricio and Elsa. Can't wait these two take it to the next leve.

The beach trip should be interesting.
I guess Dora will be on her way back now that she knows her son is injured.
Bertha is just as mean as ever. She and Adolfo were made for each other.
I wonder what other secret Yolanda is keeping?
He's taken huge losses and been forking it out to everybody left and right. At some point, he's going to be in the red.
I spent the last few days in DF so I haven't been able to keep up with the novela but I think tommorrow will be a good day to catch up.
I´ll also bring the links with the recomendations I promised Aribeth :).
