La Verdad Oculta #042: Ordinary Dora to Extraordinary Dora (and The Wedding)

At the church portal, Julieta offers beautiful bride Gabriela the bouquet and her blessing; while Gabriela explains Leonardo's presence there after Mario expresses his bittersweet wish to have been giving Gabriela away.

Presently, to Lohengrin's Bridal Chorus, "Faithfully Guided" ("Truelich Gefürt"), Leonardo faithfully guides Gabriela down the aisle past friends and family -- Alejandra and Bertha fast on their heels to the side, not-so fashionably late. At the altar, a beaming David only has eyes for his bride.

A moment even later, the Ávilas stroll right up the middle, with Carlos glaring at the bridal couple's clasped hands -- and Juan José bending forward to glare at the Ávilas. Meanwhile, at Santiago's, he bitterly weeps over family keepsakes in an ancient, worn box.

David and Gabriela joyfully exchange vows and rings, Yolanda murmuring to the dour Carlos -- and Bertha casting a coy look over her shoulder to Adolfo, who smiles in assent. Maid of honor Julieta provides coins symbolizing family prosperity; and Gabriela accepts them from David, both clasping them sweetly together in a solemn vow.

At home alone Santiago holds his wedding portrait with Márta over his heart and sobs in pain. In the church, Mario muses on Gabriela; and Juan José sends a sly look Alejandra's way, who gleams back. Asunción sneaks a peak through the tulips at Dora, flanked by Abelardo; and Leonardo dwells on the bride.

Abelardo looks concerned at Mario's sudden wince of pain -- and Julieta and matron of honor Dora place the wedding lasso around the couple; while the priest pronounces them married, and David plants a solid one on Gabriela.

Across town, Susana noshes snacks in bed when there's a knock, and it's dark-glasses, trench-coated Roberto with his nose stuck in the newspaper classified section. Inquiring about the truck for rent brings Marcos, who doesn't want to lease it without driving it himself; but for triple the fee, he's convinced.

Roberto claims he's picking up plastic toys that night in Veracruz for an orphanage; Susana thinks she's seen him before, but he gives his name as Antonio Castillo. At Mario's estate, we see Dora has quickly put together a beautifully appointed affair for the bridal couple, who appear and kiss to energetic applause.

Mario embraces them, and Gabriela greets Juan José, introducing him to Leonardo; and when Leonardo narrows his eyes and wonders if he doesn't work for the hotel, Juan José proclaims he bought the hotel! He casts an approving glance Alejandra's way and then an ugly one when the Ávilas appear, which Leonardo seems to notice.

As Juan José departs toward Alejandra, we see Leonardo has Julieta on his arm; then Asunción peels off, leaving Juan José to greet Alejandra alone, who is very pleased to see him. Not so pleased is Carlos, who tries hard to prevent him sitting with them; but Bertha greets him warmly.

Yolanda finally must reign in Carlos's protests, but he nearly spills Juan José's full name being introduced to Adolfo. Those two measure each other for a moment before reseating. Adolfo turns his tender ministrations to Bertha, and Alejandra discusses with Juan José her business visit to his apartment.

Elsa did not inform him of it, but he indulgently tells Alejandra she can do whatever she would like with his house; and she blushes at his husky, whispered compliments. They decide to talk elsewhere, and she laughs when he declares he'd follow her to the ends of the earth.

After they exit, Carlos objects to Bertha about her sister supposedly playing around on Roberto, making Bertha recoil at the ridiculous notion. Roberto's an idiot, she says; and when Bertha invites Carlos to explain why to curious Adolfo, Adolfo takes the occasion for another gratuitous fatherly insult -- not caring what Carlos would think.

It's an old, well worn hurt; and miffed Carlos ventures off for more hard liquor. On his way out, uneasy Yolanda begs him to take her home, saying she has a headache. In a quiet corner, when Alejandra asks about Elsa, Juan José explains their relationship, including Caramelo.

She guesses it was he who bought the hotel instead of "Mr. Limonta" and is astounded to learn it was just a very expensive whim. He admits, laughing, that he bought it because it holds a lot of meaning for him -- not because he knows anything about managing hotels.

Mario exits for his office; Carlos is just heading out again for another whiskey as Alejandra and Juan José return, whereupon Adolfo is apprised by Alejandra's conversation that he has a hotel competitor in the midst. They both agree they're fierce adversaries and eye each other once again.

When Adolfo remarks he's never heard of him heretofore, Juan José answers significantly that he's been -- abroad -- for eleven years. Across the way, Asunción traipses behind a harried Dora, as they pass Gabriela and Julieta noting Santiago has not yet arrived. On her way to the house to check, Gabriela's stopped by a congratulatory Yolanda, who notes the same thing about Santiago.

Nearby Bertha yucks it up with Adolfo, when Yolanda prods him again about leaving, irritating Adolfo. Yolanda points out that the police are there, indicating Leonardo; but Adolfo doesn't care. Carlos also looks in that direction, instead spying David; and suddenly Carlos gets a wild hair to kiss the bride.

Adolfo greets Mario exiting the house and conversationally pumps him about his plans, where he learns that he's traveling alone with only the chauffeur. He immediately calls Roberto to inform him and that it will be about 10 or 11 p.m. Roberto's startled when Adolfo warns him not to fail because everybody thinks he's useless and hangs up.

Bertha, in her cups and carrying two more, finds Adolfo; and when she asks if he doesn't want to toast the happy couple, he delights her by teasing, asking if they are already a couple! He gently pushes down her rudely pointing finger when she asks about the good looking guy in the wedding party, and it's Leonardo. Bertha's excited to learn he's a policeman, friend of the family, since she's never known a policeman.

Across the way, Leonardo congratulates Julieta on catching the bouquet, and they are just thanking Gabriela, about to leave, when a whiskey powered Carlos spins Gabriela around and tries a brutal embrace. Leonardo pulls him off just as David arrives and delivers a roundhouse to Carlos's head, and he goes down.

Screams everywhere, Carlos reappears and circles with David, blocked by Leonardo; Carlos threatens Leonardo and Juan José appears to hold off David -- when Adolfo arrives with Yolanda and angrily carts Carlos off, who's shouting threats.

Party over, Mario calls David and Gabriela to his office before they leave. Juan José encounters Asunción, far gone; and then Alejandra, who tells him how pleased she was he was there. They agree to meet again, and Juan José flatters her so sincerely and effusively that she kisses him on the cheek before departing. He closes his eyes in a state of ecstasy that every female viewer wishes she had created.

Poor Dora must endure Asunción's drunken professions of adoration until Juan José pulls him off. In Mario's office he tells Gabriela how much he cares about her and how happy he is to have met her. David tearfully embraces his father, as then does Gabriela, choking the weeping Mario up beyond words.

He counsels them to both help each other to have no problems with the Ávilas, since their business pact has such a short time to go. Mario becomes very emotional with what only he knows is their final goodbye. At the condo, Adolfo is furious Carlos crossed swords with a police commander! And what's with this macho stuff!

Carlos can't fathom why Adolfo cares about either now, but Adolfo does for his own reasons. He doesn't want people to think they and their business partners have problems (...in case one of them turns up dead, say). Carlos won't brook interference in his personal life, and when Adolfo threatens to kick him out, Carlos agrees -- if he gets his cut!

He's been working for Adolfo for years and the business does spectacularly because of him, but Adolfo denies he has any right to part of the business. So Carlos insists Adolfo will have to put up with him and won't leave. Adolfo's furious and threatens to chuck his things into the street, which then makes Yolanda furious.

She's livid because she blames Adolfo for Carlos's problems. He's his son! But Adolfo can't stand him. Of course he can't -- because he's heartless! she shouts. Whatever Carlos is, it's Adolfo's fault! Adolfo's! And that evil Márta! she cries. Adolfo's head jerks around, and he stares at her in shock.

At Mario's, Bertha is just gossiping to Alejandra that if Carlos is fighting over Gabriela, there must really be something between them, when Mario exits his office looking exhausted. Alejandra tries to get him to postpone his trip; but everything is ready, and he is saying goodbye to them.

Mario wants them to be good to Gabriela and not worry; they won't want for anything. Most of all, he begs them not to reveal David's origin to him. They are just promising when Abelardo enters with word that all is ready; and Alejandra is moved to embrace Mario, while Bertha can barely stand an affectionate poink on the nose. At his exit, Bertha wonders annoyed why everybody's acting like it's a funeral!

In Mario's office, it's Abelardo's turn to say goodbye, and he's already weeping. After so many years, the two men hardly have words and fall into an embrace, with Abelardo fretting tearfully what he will do without him. Mario bids him stay behind to make sure everything goes like it should with David and Santiago, and Abelardo vows to do everything possible to complete his plans.

Abelardo hopes the Swiss doctors can help him; but he's so distraught that Mario lets him stay behind in the office to avoid arousing the girls' suspicions and exits alone. Bertha laughs, mystified, why Ajelandra rushed upstairs weeping after Mario embraced her and thanked her, Bertha being in the dark about their arrangement.

When Dora alone accompanies Mario outside to the car, she hands him a letter to be read later; but when he decides to open it then and there, he is astonished to find out that she admitted to being David's mother!

Good evening, and I hope you enjoyed the wedding! :D Plus the literally smashing reception.

Part 5

I was anticipating Aribeth might have actual wedding party screen caps, so I included some on other the other topics.

Thanks, Jeri, for the eloquently written recap. I just finished viewing the links. What a tremendous episode. This is probably the best novela I have seen. I will enjoy watching it in about an hour. Still can't believe Uni kicked this intriguing novela to midnight.

All I can say is WoW! Terrific recap. No snark needed in this one.

Gabriela looked lovely, they got married without any glitches, Dora did look lovely, Juan behaved himself--while Limon did what he does best, comedy (I had to laugh at where his walking stick was poking through, though)--the cake didn't fall over during the fight scene, so pretty much everyone restrained themselves, except for Carlos. Good touch.

The emotional moments rang true AND we found out that Dora is David's mother. She'll pick up where Mario left off after he leaves and be there to watch over the couple. So will Abelardo.

We're very lucky. We didn't have to wait until the end to get a beautiful boda and a secret revealed.

Love the fact that we don't have to adjust nor readjust our beanies every few scenes. IMHO, it is one of the best TNs to come along in awhile--intelligently written, creatively directed and well acted.

Thank you very much for the long recap, Jeri! :) It was a pleasure to read it.

What an episode!

It's official: Hector Ortega is better crier than Vicky Ruffo, Bambi Noriega, EY and Mauricio Islas put together. :)

I love the group hug photo.

Whatever Carlos is, it's Adolfo's fault! Adolfo's! And that evil Márta! she cries.

WHAAAAAAT?
Okay, who's/where's Carlos's mom? Seriously.

Thanks for the wedding photos, Aribeth. :-)

That WAS a shocker, mentioning Márta.

I was rather hoping that Dora's revelation will keep Mario from going out on the highway that night.

Jeri as usual you delivered a beautiful recap.Thank you. What a night!!Everything was beautiful and all behaved nicely, well almost all. I would have loved for Mario to walk Gabi down the aisle. That would have been destiny. I also wish that Gabi found out the truth before he left. She loves him but that because he is David's father who is kind to her. Carlos really has a bug up his a$$.He has to have everything he desires so Gabi getting away is making him loco? What a moron. He deserves his father's contempt.Would it kill him to behave like a gentleman[I use the term loosely]for once? JJ is the jailbird and he was a FINE perfect gentleman. What does Berta want? The girl is beginning to annoy me no end. If anything happens to Mario it would be her fault.I hope she can live with herself then. What an ingrate.I love Julieta's dress and wrap. She looked pretty and Dora WoW,no wonder Limon went crazy.I hope those two end up together.A warm welcome to Newbie-one-Kanobe.We all agree this is the best TN in town.

So, is it possible that Marta is Carlos' mom which would make him and Gaby and Julie hermanos?

Dora is David's mom didnt see that one coming at all

Thank Jeri for another wonderful, poetic, recap. So the assumption we all had that Dora is David's mother was correct.

I'm so worried about what will happen tonight with Mario leaving and Roberto now renting Marcos truck. I thought for sure something would happen last night with the foreboding in the air.

Carlos made a fool out of himself garnering supercop Leo's attention. Gabi better tell David about his inappropriate gift or it will come back to haunt her. In addition, with Carlos's antics, I hope Leo starts to do some investigating since nothing gets past him.

JJ and Alex are certainly getting closer with their mutual attraction to each other. I'm biting my fingernails in anticipation of tonight's show.

Wow! What a great episode. No time to really comment right now, but I will say I loved the recap.

Carlos is a jerk. I am blown away by that Marta comment. But if Marta is Carlos' mom, why in the heck doesn't Adolfo see that Gabi looks just like her (like everyone else) and get suspicious? Is he just that obtuse? I appreciated Yolanda's fruitless efforts to get Adolfo out of there so that Santiago would have the opportunity to attend his daughter's wedding. So sad.

Hey Ebony. Glad to see you commenting here! Are you being ironic, or were you surprised by the Dora revelation? There are still many hidden secrets in this novela, but they have been giving us some pretty good clues about Dora for a little while. I'm glad she told Mario, but wish she had done it sooner. So many of the secrets are being held by the older folks from their children.

Carlos is messed up; he's not naturally a jerk. They spend valuable time frequently pointing out Adolfo's cold disdain of Carlos for no discernible reason.

They did it again last night; I feel sorry for Carlos. I loved that scene he had one night when he revealed his necessarily philosophical view of his father.

Carlos should have been a regular, nice guy, had he been raised right, like David. It always hurts me to see Adolfo abuse Carlos the way he does.

I don't know; I don't think Márta is his mother. I still think Yolanda is his mother; she tragically adores him.

Vivi, since i have recorded but havent watched some of the shows and havent gotten caught up on the recaps I actually had no idea that Dora was David's mom.

Im even further behind on Llena de Amor recaps and recordings. Hopfully I will get caught up on everything this weekend.

Wonderful recap, Jeri!!! Also loved the photos and links. Especially because I seem to fall asleep at that hour. I, too, wonder why it's not on earlier.

Just what is Yolanda's relation to Adolfo??? Are they supposed to be a couple, and she feels he may have cheated on her with Marta??? Still a lot of unanswered questions. Can't wait for Monday....

Ann-NYC

Ebony- So that must have been a thrilling little surprise for you! Many more secrets to go.

Ann-NYC Yolanda has been bosom buddies with Adolfo for a long time. We don't know if she ever actually uncovered her bosoms for him, but it certainly has been hinted at.

On the other hand when what's her name came from where was it, Switzerland and the other one came from LA to see Adolfo, she didn't fly into a jealous rage when she saw them together.

We also don't know what the relationship was between Yolanda and Faustiago, since she was so pleasant to him when she found him again.

She certainly does have a weak spot for Carlos. Since Adolfo never refers to her as Carlos' madre, we should assume he's not, but that could always be a writer's red herring.

I think she does know who Carlos' mother is. If blurting out the Marta card gives us a leg up, we should use it. So Marta would have to have been with Adolfo long enough to have Carlos, before she ran away pregnant and into Faustiago's arm.

Hanna--I've mainly been commenting on STuD, but I've been here as well since it began. So, I'm not really a Newbie. I did change my ending. I just love this TN.
Newbie-one-Kanobe

Thanks so much to Aribeth for the wedding party photos!

And it's a sure thing Julieta is going to marry Leonardo, because she caught the bouquet. :-D

Zaida Castellanos left a job in Germany.

I do remember Yolanda warning Carlos about getting involved with Gabriela in particular, so Márta may indeed be his mother.

However, Adolfo has always been so freaking mean to him, I have forever wondered if the deal is that Adolfo is not the father. If he is, why Adolfo can't stand Carlos is an interesting problem.

On the other hand, Carlos and David have always had an innate enmity that can only be familial, IMO.

I said when Dora first told her story (the first time -- to Mario ages ago) that I thought Dora's evil deserter would probably turn out to be Adolfo. So David and Carlos could be brothers.

I made a big mistake. If Marta was with Adolfo, then she went first into Mario's arms and left pregnant with Gabi into Faustiago's arms. Thank goodness I caught it before someone else did. Very embarassing, since this is the whole premise of the show.

So all we can say is, Marta sure got around.

Hey, I found the comment.

xlnt, I'm thinking it might be Adolfo who is the man jilted Dora. And I'm thinking Dora is David's mother. So that would make Adolfo David's father...

----------

I remembered it because of this picture in the episode:

David hugs Dora and tells her she's always been like a mother to him

Newbie, don't feel badly; we've been over this before and it wasn't the first time somebody suggested that.

I don't have a problem with Márta being promiscuous as a character; it goes with that cameo we saw of her in Santiago's dream.

Just have to wonder about the ages of the two boys, though. And Adolfo's disgust of Carlos. It's all still up in the air and interesting. :-)

Thanks so much Jeri for the wonderful recap.

The wedding was so beautiful and everyone was having such a great time. Except sour face Bertha and spoiled brat Carlos. Those two need psychotherapy.

Then I cried when Mario was saying his goodbye's to Gabi, David and Adelbardo. So sad. He doesn't even know whether he will ever see them again.

I was laughing at Dora and Limon. She was running ahead of him while he was running after her, drunk and with some sort of flower in his hand. I was waiting for his wig to fall off just for an added touch of comedy, lol. Poor Dora, he was stuck to her like glue.

Everyone was speculating that Dora was David's mother, now we know for sure. Another secret revealed. Now only Carlo's parentage has to be revealed. Adolfo can't stand him that's for sure and now Yolanda's outburst to Adolfo that evil Marta is at fault as well as himself. Adolfo had a shocked look on his face like Yolanda hit onto something.

Roberto looked like a character from a pink panther movie the way he was dressed when he went to find Marcos. Wasn't he invited to the wedding?

Margaret

Aribeth, I loved the group hug photo as well. So touching and sad. The actor is doing a great job with the two roles.

Margaret

Let's hope Mario is planning to catch a jet in D F and not actually traveling to Vera Cruz to take off. That might leave Inspector Roberto in his trench coat parked by the side of the highway waiting for Mario.

What an eventful wedding and reception. I felt like a fly being able to spy on the guests and their shenanigans. Everyone was giving someone else the eye.

There were some very touching moments with Mario and David and Gabi and Mario and Ale causing a little tearing up of the eyes. The Mario and Abelardo goodbye was so well acted.

Susana may be tiring of life with Marcos and it looks like she's ready for some diversion with Roberto. I LOL when he mentioned he was transporting toys to an orphanage. Yah sure.

Well, Marta got around...Adolfo, Mario and Faustiago. Can Carlos be her first child? And how long did Adolfo wait to murder her? I can't figure out why Adolfo hasn't recognized Gabi as Marta's daughter and Juan Ocampo as Juan Victoria. And apparently Yolanda wasn't such a good loyal friend with Marta.

Thanks, Jeri, for the great recap and links and Aribeth, for the screencaps.

GinCA

Oh, and I loved how Bertha called Roberto an inepto or inuitil and how Adofo seem surprised by her comments and wanted clarification. And yes, Roberto, always drive a red truck to commit a crime if you want to be inconspicuous.

GinCA

The Marta situation is so perplexing, as well as the question about who is Carlos' mother and why Yolanda has taken on the role of loving mother to him, that I'm not even going to try to figure it out. I actually don't think Adolfo needs a reason to treat Carlos badly. I just think he's a mean abusive father. He certainly doesn't seem the type like Mario or Santiago who would raise someone else's child, knowingly. I'm just going to wait and see what comes about there. I also don't think they have ever hinted at there ever being a romantic relationship between Adolfo and Yolanda. She acts like an ex spouse in only the fact that he pays for her lifestyle and she accompanies him on official "family" outings like the wedding. But she didn't bat an eyelash at him hitting on Bertha. She told Felix that Adolfo would never cut her off because she knows too much. There is still a mystery there to be solved.

Pink Panther, LOL -- good one, Margaret!

Well, there have been at least two occasions where Carlos said he had a special fondness for Yolanda and always felt like she had been a mother to him.

That's no less occasions than David said the same for Dora. Carlos and Yolanda had a long scene at Yolanda's apartment that was very touching. Lots of possibilities.

GinCA:
And yes, Roberto, always drive a red truck to commit a crime if you want to be inconspicuous.
