Triunfo del Amor #169 7/28/11 #who cares: A triumph of I'm DONE!
Os shows up at the hospital and Leo fills him in. Os tells Leo that Mama Lulu got spooked and took back her testimony in front of Burnie. The wheels in Leo's head start turning. Os asks how the kids are and Leo tells him Max caught the love bug.
In the caf, Fer complains she wants to see her sibs. Everyone wants to see Max and Maria and Cruz grins and says they can. Toni gets huffy and takes off while Pip flirts with Cruz.
Leo tells Os Max is in PHASE 2. O noes! Os sounds like he's blaming Dr. Voice when he asks him how this happened. Dr. Voice says Max did it on purpose.
For comic relief, Cruz leads the show's backup dancers in commandeering a window-washing rig so they can sneak a peek at Max and Maria. Free show!
Max is worried about Maria and how alone she must feel. When what to his wondering eyes should appear? The strangest window-washers ever. I'm waiting for the "OMG, am I already dead?" thought bubble.
Maria begs the Virgen to care for Max. She grins at her bizarre hallucination and Dr. Voice comes in to yell at them from inside his Tyvek suit and gas mask.
Vic and Os cry together over the kids. Vic doesn't want to talk about "them" now. Big whoop. Only Max and Maria matter. Weep, weep, weep!
Dr. Voice yells at Cruz, Fer, and Pip for not considering that they could have started an epidemic if they'd asked Max or Maria to open the window. I think my beanie just disintegrated entirely. Because wheeling a passed-out Max through the halls of the hospital wasn't going to start an epidemic? Because Maria modeling at that show in front of hundreds of people wasn't going to start an epidemic? Because Alonso walking around the whole DF with his camera of DEATH wasn't going to start an epidemic? Pobre del doctor…I think he must be the next one to fall victim to this terrible virus!
He continues his diatribe, threatening to have them barred from the hospital. Pip hilariously says he loves the hospital and spends more time there in his own house. Fer promises it won't happen again.
Ji gripes about how Burnie's got her and Rox by the pocketbook. Eva criticizes their choice of words…"aguantar no quiere decir lo mismo que soportar." (holding on doesn't mean the same thing as put up with). She suggests they team up for revenge and threaten her with what she fears most…hell! They're vaguely interested.
The cure has arrived via FedEx! Vic and Os have to give consent. Vic agrees, but Os doesn't want to risk Max with an experimental medication. Heri wants to honor Os' veto. Leo comes in and overrides his veto. Os thinks Max can beat this virus on his own! Um, wait, how is the vaccine for a virus going to cure them? If I already have the flu, getting vaccinated for the flu isn't going to cure me…or is it? Vic tells him to go shoot up Maria. With the vaccine, that is.
Barrio hijinx. Time to plan Don Napo's bachelor party.
PJP shows up at the hospital asking how the kids are. Maria's doing the same, but Max is doing worse than she is. The Swiss Vaccine arrived, but Os didn't want to let Max have it. Leo wants Max to have it. PJP repeats Os' objections, that Max is young and strong and looks damn good in a kayak, so maybe he can beat it on his own. The menfolk retire to the chapel to confab.
Napo serenades Mili with Si Nos Dejan. Seriously, dude, SERIOUSLY?!!! How long was that woman batting her eyelashes at you and you're going to sing her a song about how the two of you can go live on your own personal cloud if only the cruel world will let you? Does anybody know a serenata song for "Hey, babe, sorry I was being such a dumbass--I'm ready to commit now"? That's it! I'm riled! I'll let you know when my cover of Si Nos Dejan is posted online.
[Here's my cover]
The dads and the moms commiserate with each other. Vic wants to talk about Os. Os wants to talk about Vic. Good golly gosh. I don't know why those two crazy kids can't make it work. Os is convinced Vic loves him.
Cruz and Papa sing a mariachi song of their own. This one I don't recognize, La Negra Noche.
Burnie mockingly calls Vic to let her know that her grandson is doing ok. Jpito is playing and Burnie hasn't left him for a single second. "That's all. Good night," she says, and hangs up. Leo thinks it was a kind gesture. Vic corrects her--Burnie is just needling her. The first chance she gets, she's taking Jpito home. Vic admits she was pondering the many facets of love. "How many times have you been in love, Leonela?" Leo says she's had a lot of relationships, but love? She thought she was in love with Gui once, but the real love of her life was Os. She's only ever loved the father of her children. "Then why did you stop loving him?"
Mili says the last time she was awakened by music it was the…apilador? Afilador? I was expecting it to be the alarm clock, but that's "despertador." Somebody help me out here. Well Napo says she won't be awakened by the "apilador" or the "cartero" ever again, only by him singing in her ear. The "cartero" is the mailman. Maybe the mailman and the "apilador" (stacker?) like to sing while they work? Juanjo teases Napo about picking him to be his stepdad.
The mechanic hasn't found Ofelia's rotting corpse yet. Ji orders him to dig all night. That's not a euphemism. If he doesn't find anything, then he's gonna dig tomorrow night, and the night after that, and the night after that, until he finds something! And no, that's not a euphemism either.
Time passes.
Not that much time. No one at the hospital has changed clothes. Cruz and Fer arrive bearing caffeine. There's no news. Fer gets the news that Os vetoed the vaccine.
Max asks doc for news. Doc calls him a medical miracle for surviving the virus. I think he's a medical miracle for those abs. And the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time. And the fact he's still breathing with that massive hole in his head where his brain's supposed to be. And the fact that he's somehow never drowned himself in the lake while kayaking, again due to said cavity in skull. Need I go on? Max asks why Lon didn't survive. "Well, Max, I hate to break it to you, but the writers just didn't think Alonso was as pretty as you are, so he had to die." The doc says it was Alonso's poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and the fact that he didn't treat his disease quickly enough. *cough* ItwasMaxandMaria'sfault *cough* Max is sure Maria is all better by now, right? Right? Commercial break outro music says.
Os paces dramatically in the waiting room. He gripes that no one has come to give them an update. Fer tells him to take a chill pill. Leo joins in on the pacing. Cruz offers to take her outside and walk her like a horse. Leo doesn't want to leave. Vic says it won't do them any good to raise a fuss, they just need to put themselves in God's hands.
Max asks again how Maria is. Doc says she's not doing as well as he is, but she's not worse either. She's still in Phase 1, but he's sure she'll be out soon. "Tell her I love her and I haven't stopped thinking about her and soon we'll be together." Riiiiight, because there are no phones in quarantine rooms?
Did we just bust Cruz's dad smoking?! Oh, it's a full-barrio intervention! Milagros whacks him with a flyswatter. I'm pretty sure that's not a therapeutic technique I learned in grad school. She tells him next time she'll beat him with a broomstick and hauls him off by the 'stache.
Luci and Fab come to the hospital. Cute dress, Luci. Fab asks to speak to Vic out in the hallway. He tells Vic he's grateful for all the time he's been working with her, but he's leaving. He and Luci are leaving together. Fab and his brothers inherited a fabric factory in Puebla and he's got to go take charge of it. He promises to keep tabs on the situation and come back for Max's wedding. Luci tells her not to worry, everything will be fine. Vic is a woman of faith and faith moves mountains.
O noes, there is a disturbance in the force…digo…the test results. No puede ser!
Heri comes in and Os bitches about how long they've been waiting for an answer. Heri says it's a fair criticism, but he couldn't give them any info until now. He says Os was right and Max is getting over the virus on his own. He's all better now. Well, give him a lollipop and free up that hospital bed. Os thanks Heri for everything. Heri wants to observe him for a few more days, but he doesn't want anyone to see him for now. Maria is also getting better, but before they gave her the vaccine, the virus had already affected one of her…organs? Is that what he said? Whatever the hell he said, everyone is horrified. Mi hija no!
And the winner is…kidneys. "We've got donors!" says Mr. 5ft. One's operating at 50% and the other one is kaput. She'll need…dun dun dun…a transplant! Vic insists they're compatible and she's ready to strip down and get on the table. Not like that. Heri says they've got to run tests first. Well, Vic doesn't want to wait. Oh, just sedate her already! Fer tells her to calm down. Vic feels the need to tell Fer that she wouldn't just do this for Maria, she'd do it for Fer or for Max too. Fer says she knows Vic would sacrifice herself for them. Vic goes to ask Os to take care of the kids. "A lot is over between us, but that doesn't mean you're done raising the kids!" Os is sure nothing will happen, but if it does, nothing is more important to him than their kids and grandkids. Vic is ready now. Heri says he'll take her to the operating room to prep. What happened to the tests, Heri? On top of Alonsitis you now want Maria to deal with an incompatible organ? Tears and goodbyes in the waiting room.
Maria gets wheeled down the hallway.
Doc looks like he's macking on Vic on the operating table before she gets knocked out. Maria is a little woozy and asks where she is. Doc mumbles something reassuring. Vic tells him if it gets to the point where he has to choose between one of them…save Maria. He promises as the probably overreacting anvil of doom falls. Heri joins their hands between the operating tables, but Maria's so out of it I don't think she notices.
Time passes. Oh, BOO! No gross surgery fx for the fx team! No fair! Maria comes to in her room, with no plastic tent, remembering stuff that happened while she was half asleep. She remembers Vic telling Heri to save Maria if he has to make a choice. A nurse with way too much makeup comes in and tells Maria she's had a kidney transplant. Another nurse runs in to say the donor, Victoria Sandoval, isn't doing too well. Maria pries herself up out of bed and into the conveniently placed wheelchair.
Vic is snoozing peacefully when Maria busts into her room…and my DVR cuts off. Lovely. No Sweet William Levy in a Kayak for me tonight…or ever again!
Labels: triunfo
No big actory news, but maybe in the next couple of days.
Organ donation isn't really common in novelas, is it? (Though at least it shut both Maria and Victoria up for a while, so why spoil a good thing?)
A kidney transplant. Unbelievable! Simply unbelievable.
The whole thing sounded like a three ring circus.

hilarious!
I haven't time to watch any of this week's episodes. I'm beginning to think I should just delete them all & just stick with the recaps. Except it's probably worth watching Wed's just to see Pablo Jer's face
Word verification: radcha (Is this a tea we need to drink in order to believe all we've been shown? Perhaps it increases the effectiveness of those beanies? Because I think my beanie disappeared)
"On top of Alonsitis you now want Maria to deal with an incompatible organ?"
BTW Afilador is a sharpener, a guy who takes his little cart around the city and sharpens scissors and knives for folks. You know he's in the street by his special tune.
Thanks so much for this great recap. And thanks to Sara for yesterday's. You have all done such an exceptional job with this novela.
I'm a sap, but I actually got into the last scene with Maria wheeling herself into Victoria's room to beg her not to die. I feel like it was what we've been waiting for.
I got a kick out of Mili with the fly swatter. Most of the barrio scenes in this one leave me close to cold (though I love Don Napo). This one was cute.
Hilarious. Alonso just didn't have the physique and looks to survive. All so ridiculous except that it gave Os a chance to be Mr. Sabemas for a few moments.
Two more episodes.
Again, thanks to our recappers.
I won't miss this telenovela, but I WILL miss all the recappers and their funny reads.
Ah, well, I drank the Kool-Aid again last night, but still have some gray matter left, so....
There were parts of the conversations I didn't understand, and I thought Dr.~todo said Max would survive because he was active & exercised a lot. (PSA for Phys. Ed. class in schools?)
I had to channel flip again while watching this. Too much crying. blech....
Kidney donation, eh? roflol
And we still have chipmunk scenes and filler scenes. Gah...
Monkey writers! Bring on the bananas! Sister Maria Thomas's fourth-period study hall can do better!!!
My favorite recrap line --- "Doc calls him a medical miracle for surviving the virus. "
Eat healthy and exercise, folks--you'll be able to withstand anything!!!
To all the recappers, mil gracias. You all deserve medals for sticking with this Triunfo del desastre.
After a kidney transplant, María hauls herself out of bed & wheels to Victoria's room. I think that would be IMPOSSIBLE. But what else is new with this mierda?
Osvaldo and Leonela's reactions to the experimental vaccine were not realistic. What oracle or Sybilline verse told them (or Dr Sabetodo) that Max would shake off the virus?
Milagros' and Napo's pre-wedding stuff might have been cute if done earlier, but now is just unnecessary filler. BTW, did anyone catch the name of the actor playing Cruz's dad? I have my thoughts about who he is.
The window surprise: Cute despite the risks Dr Sabetodo yelled at them about. Max and Maria might deliriously forget that they have enough people who care about them to make life worth fighting for.
Bernarda calling Victoria: Victoria's reaction was somewhat appropriate. Bernarda's “I'm with the baby every minute” could be taken two ways, either as a taunt that Victoria wasn't or as a statement that Ximeana can't harm him (Bernarda, for all her other evil, cares about that). Victoria knows Bernarda has a creepy agenda, but she herself isn't currently in any shape to care for the baby. She's ready to fight, though, when the worst is over.
No way in the world would Victoria have been allowed to donate a kidney. There was a story need to have Victoria save Maria's life, but nobody of even less than average intelligence would ever believe that a woman who has had two cancer surgeries could qualify to donate blood, let alone a kidney. Why did nobody think to call JP?
If I had written this, I would have had JP donate the kidney, which would have sent Bernarda into a tailspin. She could have drugged his coffee and locked him up in her house – in the dungeon we never saw – if he had told her in advance (which would mean Victoria To the Rescue with Heriberto and/or Osvaldo and/or Leonla as backup) or disowned him had he told her after the fact (which is the smarter option for him).
EPDA difference: Tamara (Ximena) attempted to stab Christina in front of the orphanage. Luciana stepped in and fought, getting stabbed in the shoulder. Tamara escaped as the Mother Superior called for an ambulance. Luciana and Christina reconciled in the hospital after Luciana got out of surgery.
Slightly OT: There was a heart transplant in 1994 in Angeles Blancos, one of the first novelas I ever watched and the only one I can recall that had a sad ending.
This thing is going to wrap up faster than a Janet Dailey novel.
Please take a well deserved bow!!
I'm with Doris, I adored you're " And the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time. And the fact he's still breathing with that massive hole in his head where his brain's supposed to be".He has to be one the densest, worthless galans ever filmed.
What slays me is that WL is all set to do another TN with Meija (though it's been back-burnered). I guess it pays the bills.
And in the contuining other universe of medical miracles, Max can cure himself after going stage 2, Maria gets a transplant in a wink of an eye, we learn the virus is contagious yet noone else is getting sick (my head hurts)...and oh, yeah, Alonso died because apparently he sat around eating bon-bons all day.
And can I also say, that since Vic and Max and other parties seem to think the babies are not that important, those poor little darlings should get rescued and given to either Cruz and Fer or even better, Fab and Luci.Get those poor little guys out of town and away from these nut cases.
So I may be brave and give this comedy a send off tonight. I may need a good laugh after a day of visiting relatives and rain.
Honestly, even Maria begging Vic not to die is not believable. The Maite P Squinting Face does nothing for me...nothing. So much time has passed that this sudden about face (even though we knew they would reconcile) is just not believable.
This piece of trash TN had better not win any premios. Even Romo's role is nothing but pure camp.
I'm sure that by this point, all of these actors just kept telling themselves it was a paycheck.
We were robbed in the worst way. ROBBED.
Susanita
Word Verification: rhats HA!
Why didn't they test Victoria? She could have had hepatitis or something (transmitted via Padilla's rape)
Alonso wasn't sedentary and he was always bringing Maria fruits & vegatables. Dr Voice made it seem like Alonso was sitting on the sofa Al Bundy style eating chips and chugging back beers while watching Price is Right.
Leo, why DID you fall out of love with Osvaldo? We never got the answer to that question.
Dr. Voice, how in the world can Alonso's disease float through a brick wall and infect Fer, Cruz & Pip and/or cause an epidemic?
Here's to bofetadas, lagrimas, gemidos y estupidos - basta ya!
Karen & Jorge de Colorado
After extending this crap with more crap, they are rushing through all the medical stuff.
I can't find anything on Cruz's padre, what is his name in this TN?
You had some hilarious lines, but for me today the most important and informative was:
"Time passes."
Somehow, I missed that, so it seemed like Max crawled into bed with Maria, caught the virus, progressed to phase 2, and miraculously recovered in the blink of an eye.
I know that I should comment on the medical aspects of this episode, but all I have to say is... I'm bewildered.
Carlos
Dr KIA lost me for good with the lecturing of the window washers. The man has a God complex and no sense of humor.
Once again someone is left out of the loop. Did anyone bother to call PJP when Maria took a turn for the worse and went into surgery? And that was the quickest transplant surgery on record. Oh and wasn't it odd that Maria got wheeled into surgery in a plastic tent because she is so contagious and yet the whole operating room team was in normal scrubs not the bio hazard stuff that had been worn before. I guess with Almighty Doc on the scene no germs of mystery dare appear. Too bad because I so desperately want him to come down with stage three immediately. Talk about your sedentary life style.
Isn't it odd that Gui hasn't noticed anyone digging up his garden? And I guess his doberman is useless as a watch dog.
One more marginally off key mariachi fest and I'm going to scream.
I'm so glad you are NOT recapping Cuando Me Enamoro. I wouldn't be able to stand your barbs aimed at my favorite characters!!
I couldn't believe they decided to burden Maria and Vic with another medical emergency. Well, it does save on set-rental, they can all stay in the Sandoval Pavillion. (How long has it been since they've been in the Sandoval Mansion?)
Poor Alonso. He died alone, blamed for his own death *cough, cough*, blamed for spreading the virus around and surely someone will blame him for Maria's kidney failure and perhaps Vic's early demise. Maybe Fab & Luci got out while the getting was good.
If Victoria se va, it would solve the Team Os or Team Heri controversy. How is that going, anyway?
NOK
NOK
P.S. Thank you for only having two more capitulos to watch!
LOL!!!!
It has been a train wreck from day one and the each next to last episode tops the previous one in absurdity and stupidity.
Now i truly understand and feel for those who have experienced FELS.
What a treat the recaps have been. You're all so good at what you do! Thanks again.
."
First of all, gracias for all the positive feedback!
Second, yesterday was just one big mess after another! I had an audition scheduled in the middle of the day and a TV news crew coming over to my day job in the morning and contractors in the afternoon. It was also day 2 of not having a working refrigerator downstairs(no worries, we have a mini-fridge upstairs for the milk that Mr. 5ft adds a splash of morning coffee to). I woke up feeling like I had nothing suitable to wear to the audition, made a mad dash to Target, got to work and had my Admin help me put an outfit together, hosted the TV crew, played make-up artist on camera (completely unexpected), almost didn't leave for the audition on time because I had NO idea what time it was, realized I had NO head shots and resumes with me, tried to print some headshots at a FedEx Office but the machine was out of paper, got to my audition five minutes late, almost left my purse at the audition, and in the end...
I booked the gig! And they asked for a voiceover demo in Spanish which I've been frantically putting together this morning. And I swear from now on I will go back to carrying around a supply of headshots and resumes in my purse at al times and I will leave a stack at the office just in case! I never want to go through that anxiety again, especially not for something that's a total rookie mistake and completely avoidable!
And lastly, in the middle of all my drama, I did record Si Nos Dejan and added the link to the recap. It's also right here
http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/99608/Si%20Nos%20Dejan
Oh, the things we do for love :D
Que the ****? over Dr. KIA's bio-hazard suit in Maria's room, yet the OR was normal scrubs. QTH? That bio-hazard outfit with facemask had me giggling. WHY wasn't he wearing goggles, too?
Kat - I am gobsmacked over the day you had yesterday, and you still managed to knock out this great recap/recrap. Kudos, girl!
I was stopping in to thank all the folks who comment on the recaps, too! Y'all are hilarious and I love to channel the collective snark.
Tell me I'm not the only one who watches each evening and thinks "Oh I cannot WAIT to hear what everyone says about this!"
I think I feel a little sad that it's over.
UA-Sounds like EPDA had a better and more believable ending. I haven't seen it, but am I correct in assuming it had a more believable everything?
Sara EPDA was so much better than this basura and believable.
Daisynjay as William Levy's next project i haven't found anything but i think he's kind of glad the CDL has been put on hold from this latest mess who would want to continue to work with Meh-jia?
What i did find out was something interesting did happen during the filming of TDA. William went off on a mini vacation without the approval from his producer and i guess the director. Some of his scenes had to be shot around him. It was for a personal reason and i won't disclose that but i will say he did show a total disregard for his fellow co-workers and i guess he was showing how much lack of respect he has for Meh-jia by doing this too. Maybe he pulled this stunt on purpose to be taken off of the CDL project if it ever gets going again. It could have been his way of saying he doesn't want to work with Meh-jia again. We'll have to wait and see if the CDL is ever completed.
EPDA was a very good novela and has virtually no relationship to TDA at this stage. There are so many differences it would take paragraphs to chronicle them. There was an emotional coolness to most of the characters in EPDA that served the basic story much better. I don't know how it has held up, but I loved it and have just hated to see the story ruined in this version.
I am swearing off refritos of Mexican novelas I have seen myself in the last 15 or 20 years. I just saw that PVAA is available in DVD form. I'm going to order it and watch it while giving Fuerzo de destino a try.
Again, mil gracias a 5FT (congratulations, too), Sara, Jardinera and NovelaMaven. You are a very talented crew. I'll be your first customer for the novela that you get together to write.
I found FELS painful at the end, but
Diana Bracho & Guillermo Gárcia Cantú were very good & deserving of their premios. The best show their stuff even in the worst TN.
I'm really not suffering as much in TDA, I think Romo & Rios have done a good job. And the so called comic relief has not been as bad as FELS.
Guillermo Garcia Cantú's role isn't as good as FELS.
I'm impressed with Livia Brito, can't think of anyone like that in FELS.
BUUUUT, please NEVER have Adela Noriega & Victoria Ruffo in the same novela, it would be a total barf experience.
AN was the only thing wrong with Amor Real. WHY, WHY, WHY, do they have the heroines cry so much?
Fernanda
Osvaldo
Cruz
Pipino
Baby JP
Fausto
Burnie
Leonela
Padre Jeronimo
Characters I was "meh" on:
Max
Maria
Victoria
Xi
Gui
Padre JP
Linda
Nati
The Vecindad crew
Fabian
Luci
Oscar
Antonieta
Alonso
Laughed at WL's empty head, among many other good jabs. This TN has lost any semblance of coherence. Can't believe Vic got to be an instant kidney donor and can't believe how spry Maria was when she put herself in the wheel chair. Shouldn't they have been recovering in Intensive Care?
Now I'm mostly watching so I can appreciate the recaps and comments.
La Paloma
And congrats to all the team for making a beginning Spanish learner understand this basura. I have learned a few interesting Spanish words along the way, the kind they don't teach you in Spanish class, thanks to the show's writers.
Anonymous, maybe you and I should have waited to read all these hilarious recaps until the show was done. Then we could have made up what we thought that they were saying and done a better job than the writers.
Cindy
I'd also like to start a new line - what would you like to still see happen?
Me? I'd like to see Dona Milagros do another miracle or casting out by drinking some concoction and spitting all over the person, just like she did at the beginning. That whole "career" just was dropped. Let's see it one more time!
